Amina is a very knowledgeable professor in the field of finance. If you attend class, this class is a breeze. I would definitely recommend her to others.
Honestly i usually have a hard time concentrating in class but Amina's class is very interactive and focus orientated. IF U GO 2 CLASS AND LISTEN TO WHAT SHE SAYS AND FOLLOW ALONG WITH HER U WILL ACE THE COURSE! I severely reccomend her.
Amina is a good teacher for the most part. The only exception is exams. She will not tell you what units are weighted more or even helpful questions. So come final time you would wish you were in another class cause you wont even know what its on!!!!
I thought she was an allright prof, she did seem a bit shakey at times, but still good. I can see her being excellent in the future. The midterm and exam were easy, but I agree that she did not give the best explanation of what we were being tested on. However, it does not warrant a bad review or to say the class was hard Very str8 fwd material
Amina should stay in the private sector as a consultant where I am certain she is good at. Teaching is not her forte. She should do all students a favour and not teach. She is a pleasant lady and very knowledgeable. She did not use class time effectively and often let students leave 45 minutes early. She is a fair and easy marker.
really nice if you get on her good side. a little boring, if you start talking during class she tends to pick on you
She was alright. Very boring. Teaches her own way instead of teaching it from the textbook.
Above average instructor. Attend all classes and you will do well in the course. However, she can be really boring at times.
Great Prof. Knows her stuff. Kinda goofy sometimes. She actually tries and make finance kinda fun. Somewhat easy assignments and exams (If you attend her lectures). exceptions are very clear, and she is extremely approachable.
Amina is a very knowledgable prof, she has real life practice and has many real life stories based on actuality. She is also very helpful when you ask questions, and marking wise is very good. Overall this class went really well and i would for sure recommend her.
Very helpful in all ways. She will tell you exactly what to do on an assignment to get a good grade. exams are very closely related to projects making them easier. Highly recommend :)
Above average Prof. She knows her stuff and explains course material very well. You learn alot through the assignments in her class and she is very approachable and helpful. Amina is a kind person and has fun in the classroom compared to other Profs who would put you too sleep.
I found Amina to be a great prof until the evaluations passed. We got to see her true colours after that. Also, she would walk around the class helping people but since my partner and I needed a lot of help, she would always get to us last if at all. This made class a waste, we would spend the whole lab on fb because we didn't know what to do.
Amina is a great prof , and an easy marker. As she has explained as well most students don't do very well on the midterm and final. My best recomendation is to study the material on your own because it's difficult to retain information from her lectures. It does help that she provides notes, and a heads up on what's on the midterm and final.
The class is really easy, but the lectures can get really really boring at times. Overall she's a good proff!
Not bad, but not great. Like someone else here mentioned, prepare to do a lot of self-studying online. The lectures don't really cover everything in the detail that are needed for the exams. Assignments/Presentations were relatively easy, but exams were a little difficult. I still learned a decent amount of information from taking this class.
Amina is a nice person in class. Not very helpful when you ask questions. I went to see her during office hours and she was surprisingly rude. Assignments are super easy but she doesn't tell you what will be on the tests. I honestly don't feel like I learned anything.
Good teacher, can be a little boring at times. Very knowledgeable and has the experience in the Stock Market. Do not take this as a night class, worst idea ever.
Amina is clearly not there for the students. If you are looking for helpful, understanding profs then DO NOT take her class. Fairly easy A but only if you have a solid understanding of the material prior to taking the course. DO NOT hand in anything late because she will give you a big fat ZERO with no attempt to understand student situation.
Good prof. A lot of the weight comes down to how stringent she is with her deadlines, but she makes that very clear right from the get go. Overall a fun class to take with relatively easy projects (as long as you don't procrastinate)
Her classes were interesting and she's a funny teacher. However she's not clear, and she's no help when it comes to assignments and exam prep. In the final exam, she walked around saying theres a random mc question with no right answer, and that to get a mark we had to leave that random question blank. Lol, It was an awesome class though.
Amina is a very good instructor, she tells you exactly what she wants from the beginning, and repeats it throughout the semester. She doesn't use blackboard a whole lot, and will only respond to emails if you do something really confusing during a project. Otherwise you're probably on the right track.
This is a class that the more effort that I put in the more I got back from it. I had no financial background when I took it so there was a lot of work I had to put in. She knows what she is teaching and out of all the questions I asked her she had really good answers. Don't take her for granted a prof with her experience does not come around offen
Amina is an all around good teacher and person. She has immense professional experience in the industry and works really hard to make sure students that aren't good at math are able to follow along in class. If you go to her office hours if you don't understand a subject she is very helpful and often ask's for constructive criticism. Great JOB
Not only is she a blast in the class, but she is also fun outside of it. Always willing to do anything and everything she can for you. She is very accessible and is willing to spend time with students when they need her services. Loved every minute of what she brought to the table!!!
Wow. I only got an B- in this class BUT that was all my fault. She is an excellent instructor. Had I not frozen on the final exam I would have ended up with an A- or even higher. Would DEFINITELY recommend her to instruct any class.
Amina is extremely intelligent and knows how to teach. The course in general is very overwhelming and demanding - entirely out of her control. Be prepared for difficult exams that are heavily weighted. Amina will make things easy (ish) to understand and is quite clear on her expectations.
Amina has amazing finance background knowledge, however, she is not that great at teaching, Her lectures are all over the place. I would not recommend her if finance or accounting is not your major.
She is intelligent but her way of teaching was difficult.
Nice teacher but terrible at teaching. Expects you to have some finance and accounting knowledge beforehand. If you don't have a good grasp of concepts you will easily get lost in class. Will skim and jump through formulas and concepts. Would not recommend if you're the type of student who needs to learn at a steady pace.
After having one class with her, you will come to conclusion that you could do better if she was not your prof. She needs to be trained the value and behavior of a good instructor.
If GPA does not matter to you, take your class with her.
Amina has lots of knowledge in finance, however her teaching can become very scattered and hard to follow if finance/accounting is not your major or strong suit. She expects you to have some basic concepts down which made it frustrating as it was easy to become confused
I found her to be awful at teaching! The only reason I got an A in FNCE 2132 is that the second half of the course contains stuff that I learned in FNCE 3227 and ACCT 2121, and in both of these courses, I had far better instructors!
Class is not easy for sure, should honestly have some sort of pre-req. Prof has good knowledge of the field and provides good information outside of the textbook relating to the stock market. Some concepts are gone over very briefly, had to use a lot of outside sources to actually learn about specific parts of the course.
Amina has lots of knowledge in finance, however, her teaching can become very scattered and hard to follow if finance/accounting is not your major or strong suit. She expects you to have some basic concepts down which made it frustrating as it was easy to become confused
I do not recommend Amina. Her teaching style is very scattered and I do not think she was very respectful. Her midterms were also way harder than what we learned in class.
FNCE 2132 is a fairly simple coarse that could be very dry, but Amina knows how to keep things interesting and makes things clear. She has tons of experience with the stock market and is still a frequent trader!
Obviously knowledgeable in her field but that does not make her a good teacher. We maybe went over textbook questions in class twice, which is what the midterm and final are full of. If she is your only choice, see your advisor and take the class online.
Shes passionate about her field and gives many opportunities for students to ask questions and she can explain with real world examples, so take advantage of this if you dont understand something. I enjoyed the projects and getting a sense of what investing is actually like.
She's not clear, and she's no help when it comes to assignments and exam prep.
She has an amazing finance background, but I felt like I learned more from reading the textbook than her lectures. FNCE 3228 also has case quizzes and a major group project, so be prepared to use more than math skills. I also don't like that she talks about irrelevant stuff during her lectures.
Her teaching was not very clear and I did a better job learning the material myself. I did not enjoy her lectures.
Her powerpoints are full of basic grammatical errors, can barely understand a word she says, doesn't seem like she even wants to be there. Overall showing up to her lectures are discouraging because of how uninterested she seems. Honestly I stopped showing up after the midterm.
Enjoyed learning about investing and the different tools used. Professor was very clear and extremely knowledgeable about finance. Strong background and enaging and interesting lectures. highly recommend.
Not sure why Amina got a bad rap in previous ratings. Dr. Beecroft is a great professor and extremely knowledgeable in Finance. She cares about her students and engages the class with practice problems. She also calls on students to answer questions and challenge themselves instead of just reading from a PowerPoint. Thanks for a great class! :)
I have had Amina for two courses. She is knowledgeable but lacks skill in teaching. She is unclear with project expectations and tests are tough as she talks more about her career and current events than the content. You are best off skipping lectures and reading the textbook. She also often tests on material she said would not be testable.
Amina is knowledgeable in her field, however, she is SO terrible at teaching. Her writing is everywhere and is hard to follow with her use of acronyms. She sometimes comes into class smelling like an ashtray. Avoid this class w/ her at all cost, as she is no help with answering questions prior to any tests as "she has to be fair and follow rules."
Awesome person, awesome prof. Very cool, would recommend .
Knows her stuff, but can not teach! Limited online resources, doesnt make sense most of the time. Avoid this class with her. Teaches one thing, tests on stuff completely different.
Amina is very knowledgeable but lacks in her ability to translate information. She encourages participation during class but her lectures are extremely hard to follow (She abbreviates everything and skips essential steps in the process) She does not prep you for the final exam at all. Expect to learn 90% of this course through your textbook
She is an overall chill prof but not the best teacher. sometimes she gets grumpy if you don't show up prepared for the case. midterm final and the project were all hard.
I don't understand why people are saying shes a hard marker. The course is pretty much purely math... you either get the question right or wrong , there isnt much room for subjectivity. Anyways, she is a good prof - very knowledgeable and knows what shes talking about. If you actually go to class and review a little bit before tests, you'll be fine
I am not a finance person, math and I don't get along. Amina is easily accessible outside of class. She knew I was struggling and I would go to office hours or email and she would help. She explains everything multiple times in a few different ways and makes the class enjoyable for what I find to be a dry subject.
Amina is extremely harsh on proper citations. She will not Hesitate to call you out for misconduct. Her lecture are extremely vague and do not relate to the in class quizzes and exams. Lastly, her project criteria is lacks what she actually wants from the project.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. I am a Presidents Honour Roll student and I have never gone into a final with a grade this low. Aminas quizzes are unrelated to course content, her midterm questions were from units we have yet to learn, and the Term Project was set with impossible expectations.
Case quizzes were not even on the case, rather calculations we did not cover yet. Exams extremely difficult. Final project was extremely time consuming and the grading rubric was not followed. It seems like the professor for this class expects you to study 24/7 on this course. Do not take.
I find the Finance department at MRU very weak, Amina unfortunately falls into that category. I found her online lectures pointless and hard to follow. Case quizzes were not even on the case, midterm and final graded extremely hard. Half the class dropped and its no surprise why.
Amina likes to go through every example with the class, and makes sure that everyone is understanding before moving on. its really all you can ask for from a professor. The quizzes and midterms were fairly easy if you use the online program with the textbook for practice you can have a solid grade heading into the final. The final was fairly tough
I've had the pleasure of having Amina for 2 classes now. She is an exceptional professor! She cares about her students health and success in her classes, and has done a spectacular job with lecturing during COVID. 5/5 professor in my books, if you see her as an option for your classes, take it!
The content of the course was difficult but Amina helps to make everything easy to understand. She was great during Covid classes and really tried to be there for her students. I would recommend her as a professor!
Anyone giving Amina less than a 5 is lazy. I literally search for Amina's name in every single finance class I have to take. Everything she teaches is practical and intellectually stimulating. Yes, it is a university class and you will have to prepare for lectures but these preps are typically case studies or projects pertaining to the real world.
Amina made learning Finance through online easier than I thought it would be. She goes over the important things in the lectire, then does a majority, if not all, the textbook questions. She gives the opportunity to be involved and answer the questions before she gives the answer. If you have a chance to take a class with Amina, I recommend you do
Amina is a good prof who is straightforward and her intro to Finance class really isn't that hard. If you pay attention to the lectures and take notes you will learn everything you need to know. Studying for the tests is easy all you have to do is the practice questions she assigns for each chapter, the questions on the test will be the exact same.
She assumes that you will know everything. Her handwriting was DISGUSTING and messy! Everything that she teaches is not on the quizzes and midterms! The way she teaches is so confusing, it makes me wanna pull my hair out! BUY THE TXTBK AND LEARN THE COURSE YOURSELF. Don't bother showing up in class, because you will get confused. AVOID HER.
Great prof. Anyone who rates her low are lazy and don't put the work in. Her lectures are organized and well explained, and she challenges her students to actually try hard and use their brains. Always looking for her name when taking new finance courses.
The best part about Amina's classes is that she goes right into practice questions. She briefly writes and explains key chapter definitions, then goes straight into review questions. No time wasted going through readings and powerpoints. She keeps the class engaged by going around and making sure everyone is getting the same answer.
Amina is a caring instructor that wants her students to succeed. She works through problems and makes sure everyone is on pace, and always takes time to answer questions. Best 5 of 6 quizzes, 1 mid-term, & 1 final. Sit on left side of room to best see the blackboard (writing can be very small).
Her expression "work smarter, not harder" really helped me a ton. She is one of the best profs I have had. While some of her quizzes were tough, it was on everything we learned in class. You just had to dig into what you learned. 10/10 would take her again
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my 5 years of learning at MRU. She doesn't know how to teach, she's ignorant, and disrespectful. If you are looking to ruin your GPA this is the teacher for you. I hope she gets fired and gets what she deserves for this horrible semester post COVID 19. What a let down.
I really struggled to understand her teaching style at first. She really likes everyone to participate and do calculations during class which can be really challenging but after getting into it I really began to enjoy her classes. She cares if you care! You are expected to read lecture slides on your own time and then in class you do problems.
Get ready to hate your life, amina will slap you with a 5% deduction every minute your late for handing in tests. Your tests will not be on what she taught, she expects you to teach yourself. - Ron Macdonold The 3rd
This isn't a class this is just Amina's personal therapy session. She will not teach you anything as you have to teach yourself (Literally). She just speaks about her personal life & for the midterm and final does not give us any structure on what to expect. Once again MRU shows off the embarrassment they are and its just an overall disappointment!
Amina is a great professor who is informative and helpful on topics you consider problematic. She's chill in this class, at least for me, and I found myself learning more than I expected. 10/10 would take her as a professor again.
Amina is very open with her students. She tells you what you need to know for exams and there are no surprises. She is honest when you need to pick up the slack. I enjoyed her class and would recommend taking a class with her, as she is a great teacher, a fair marker and is one of the best Finance professors at mount royal.
Amina is a very nice person with some flaws. If you have anxiety and hate being called on in class, she isn't for you. There were multiple times she called on me, which caused a panic attack. She is also very hard to reach outside of class, I needed her to give me an extension on a quiz due to mental health issues, and she flat out did not respond.
She is smart no doubt. She was also very nice in class, however she expect her students to know everything so she never really teaches in class. She expects you to learn all of the materials on your own. Her handwriting was also messy so there's no point for you to take notes and she never explains how she gets her answers. GL u ever take her class
harsh marker and very rude prof. doesnt teach in class. avoid if possible. she made this course way harder than it needed to be.
she knows what she's talking about, but comes off as rude when you ask for clarity. After presentations she'll criticise you so hard in a really rude way. She'll get mad if you don't read the readings before class and publicly put you on the spot. Her midterm was hard and even if you pay attention in class you'll still be confused. stay away
Honestly, she doesnt teach, she doesnt explain instructions at all. But still gives you bad marks on assignments? We did everything we could for our assignment and got less than a 50%. She is not just a tough grader but she lowkey crazy
If you want ptsd for the rest of your life take this prof. If you want to be happy don't. She will make sure you fail this course and waste your money. No instructions on what the final will be on. No slides to teach yourself. Just a bunch of random articles she found and makes you read them. Bro its fricken mru why the profs acting like it harvard
She does not give powerpoints related to course content or any question prep for exams. She expects you to know everything like she does through reading articles she finds that relate to class. She is too lazy to create her own PowerPoints and find questions for students to practice. She will fail you on assignments if it is not up to her standard
You need to pay attention in lectures to do well on the exams. There is very little organization in this class. Make sure to take notes in lectures and read all materials. There is no textbook.
Get ready to read 20+ pages and do quizzes EVERY week! Amina made it clear that the midterm and the final will not be based on the quizzes, so have fun having no references as there is no textbook. I enjoyed being confused about what we're learning as Amina loves to talk about herself and current events that do not pertain to the course!
I've worked in portfolio mgmt for two years, and I still struggled with this class. Amina is very subjective and will mark your work as wrong if it's not done her way. Do yourself a favour and avoid.
Did not enjoy this professor at all. I would take this course with anyone else you can get with because Amina is not it. In class she talks to you like you are dumb for not knowing content before being taught. Very condescending and if you are sick and miss one class she will target and guilt you for it. overall ruined the whole course for me.
Amina is truly an AMAZING prof. This class is hard but she works so hard to make sure everyone is keeping up and understanding. She does example questions step by step and answers all questions. She is so good at teaching these concepts! Highly Highly Highly suggest her if you want to understand what you are learning and get the best mark possible
She is not cooperative and her teaching way is not good. Even she did not set up the course home page and even she didnot post announcments.
Amina is a really good teacher, and teaches in a way thats very understandable. she's very open to answering questions, working through problems and making sure everyone understands before moving on. She's nice, however she often comes off as condescending, a know-it-all, and she can often make kids feel dumb, but its not her intention.
Amina made many students feel like they are stupid for not getting the answer. She often groans and makes it clear she's annoyed when students ask questions. She just reads over questions from text but doesn't show any steps. If you are not confident in your finance/accounting skills and need extra time/assistance, I highly suggest avoiding Amina.
Explains how to do the questions (what values represent different variables) literally 1 or 2 times and won't properly explain how she got any answers thereafter. If you miss class and this one time explanation you will be so lost. Also, she gets annoyed SO easily and doesn't hide it, acting like you're stupid if you can't answer.
The class is hard if you have no prior understanding of TVM, interest, opportunity cost, or math simply isn't your strong suit. She moves fast as there is plenty of material to cover and it's an attempt to prepare you for future finance classes that are much more difficult. Outside of class she is easily reachable and responds in hlpful/timly mannr
Her teaching style is chill, she gives you tips when solving questions, and gives example questions that might be on exams. As someone who is not majored in finance her lectures were boring, but to finance majors you may find her lectures very useful. In class you can tell she has favourites by going to the same students asking if they need help.
This instructor created a hostile and unsupportive learning environment, refused to answer questions, openly disrespected students, and judged unfairly. Her conduct throughout the course fell below professional standards. Demonstrated clear favoritism, often toward male students, and should not be permitted to continue in an instructional capacity.
Amina is a great professors who's teaching style is very effective. This class has a midterm, final, group project and 5 quizzes. It is a difficult class so attendance is recommend but not mandatory. She pauses lectures to ensure everyone understands and completes the questions which is helpful. Overall great person who teaches a hard class well.
Lectures are boring and only focused on textbook questions. If you miss anything there's no use going to class. Not question friendly environment unless you thoroughly know the material. This is a HARD class. She does not help make it any clearer with videos or study guides. No handouts, no D2L postings, no practice and 0 tech knowledge. Good luck.
Math has never been my strongest subject, but I still did decent in this class. She's a great professor she really makes sure you understand the material, which is exactly what you need for a course that can get challenging.
Terrible prof, her notes make no sense. For an intro class she taught as if u already knew everything. Her notes were hard to comprehend, and she was extremely boring to listen to. The midterm was AWFUL. She doesn't even prepare you for it. She teaches u things that aren't relevant in today's time. the other profs don't teach the things she did.
Really great prof. It's a hard class you really have to put in the work but you can always ask her questions and she will do everything to help you. I have never done this well in a hard class. She focuses lots on textbook questions in class to prepare you for tests. She can come off intimidating and rude sometimes - but it is not her intention.
