I took an online version of this course so I really cannot attest to the helpfulness/lecture demeanor factor. What I can say is that his tests were clear and conformed well with the text. No trickery here.

Mr. Kidane is an excellent professor and a hilarious guy. Some of his test questions are fairly tricky but there are more easy ones thatn hard ones. If you go to lab and do the work it's not a difficult class.

Took this class online. Hard class! But good preparation for more Bio classes. The course was well-organized and the tests were straight from the book. Following his instructions on how to work through the class and lots of studying got me through. He doen't encourage questions! Posts warnings not to waste his time, and has a blunt style in email.

amazing teacher; VERY EASY tests...material came exactly from his slides that were online; very helpful; sends emails to remind us to take the tests; not many quizzes and tests and cute ;)

Finally, a teacher who knows how to make a test! He is good. Clear, concise and follows the rules--you study hard you get an A/ medium a B/ and read his notes twice a C--lab is an easy A. He is one one the most stress free teachers I have had unlike the nursing program. Thank you for making my quarter enjoyable!

Tough teacher but very helpful. Study hard and you will do great. I took the online course and got a B. Looking back, if I would have spent a few more hours a week studying I would have done better. Read the book and study your notes. I would recommend Dr. Kidane to anyone who is willing to put forth the effort and earn their grade.

Online lecture notes are the best I have seen in two years of online classes. Responds to emails very rapidly. Exams come from a departmental test bank, so blame the department, not the teacher for this. I took notes from his online notes, studied the book, and made good use of the internet for an easy A.

Took Micro online. Was difficult but doable. His study guides were the key to the tests... if you really know whats on there you get an A. Lots of questions come from the lab book so study it! It is true that his tests are full of typos which is annoying.

HUSTLE early in the quarter! You must do well on the first two exams because the final is brutal. I got high A's on the first two exams, an A in lab and barely escaped with an A in the class. The final exam covers 2/3 of the material and is very tricky. Dr. Kidane answers emails quickly. Seems like a good guy.

Took bio 100 online. Dr Kidane sticks to the syllabus. Everything is clearly laid out in this and is abided by thoroughly. Answers emails promptly and was very helpful to me. Relies on the book heavily but the book was easy to follow. The class fit great into my full time work schedule. BE WILLING TO WORK NO EXCUSES!!!

Took class on-line. No need to contact teacher if read the syllabus and payed attention. Just study hard and you get an A.

I took the class online, and it's all up to you. Study the textbook and manage your time, online quizzes/exams were not too hard. The contact with the teacher was minimal,however, he never responded to the single email I send him.

All the student who complaing are the one who took the course online. So I have advice for all you are loser and dump student go to class so you don't have to complian. Stop being neg

I took this class online and feel that is a great online class. I actually had no need for any contact with the teacher so I can't comment on him. There are 3 quizzes and 3 tests only for your grade. Material and tests were somewhat detailed and hard for me but I'm not a science person. Read and study hard. I got an A.

Dr. Kidane was very helpful, answered emails promptly and even though some think he is hard, he wants you to pass. Really, all you have to do is study and let him know you are trying.

Dr. Kidane was very interested in helping me even though I took the online course. He was very prompt at answering my emails and helpful with the questions I missed on the quiz's. All one has to do is study and let him know you are really trying and he will work with you.

I took his Micro class over the summer and LOVED it. He is so fun and his labs are the easiest labs I have ever done. As long as you show up and participate, you will do fine. The actual content can be confusing, but he explains it well. You will have to study, but all his tests were multiple choice. I highly recommend Professor Kidane!!

Easy class. I didn't buy the book. I bough the cliff notes book, and used the lectures posted on blackboard. I spent about 10 hours all semester on this class. No issues at all. It's Intro to Biology. You can use youtube to find information about all of the topics. It's not in-depth at all, and the teach is really there to grade the tests.

I thought the instructor was awesome, I had a good time taking his class. I took the hybrid version, All I had to do was show up for labs. He is straight to the point and he does want you to pass. If I would have studied harder I would have came out with an A. He does give practice exam before actual exam, trust me it helps.

Labs are easy and fun, tests are multiple choice but hard. Getting an A is difficult but not impossible (this is college, you do have to study). I think the people who gave bad reviews took the online version. You have to be in class with him to see how funny and nice he really is. Would take his class again!

Great professor! Labs are easy all u have to do is read a head of time so u know what to expect and also read the directions carefully. Lectures are long and detailed, so u have to study each day so u don't fall behind. He also provides u with practice tests that are like the real ones. Don't get the text book just get the lab manual. Good Luck!

Do not buy the book He puts up all of his lecture notes online as well as practice exams and quizes that are almost question for question on the real exams. You have to go to lab or you fail due to department policy, but I did not go to one lecture after the first exam and I got an A on every exam. If you do struggle he is more than willing to help

Would definitely recommend! Hands down the best professor I've had. That being said this is an intense class that covers some detailed material and requires you to study the lectures and show up to lab and pay attention. Professor Kidane is a brilliant guy, I learned a lot from him. Overall great experience!

Dr Kidane is the best instructor. microbiology is not an easy class unless you take it with kidane then you will pass

Professor Kidane is by far the best professor I've ever had. He makes learning about bacteria/diseases fun and exciting. He genuinely cares about everyone passing his class. Do not miss a lab though and definitely do not be late for class.

People make a lot on here about him not wanting you to be late. You're working w/live bacteria in lab & he wants you to get the instructions so you're safe. Clear grading & the practice exams/quizzes make things VERY straightforward. VERY. He's smart & will help if you need it. Taking micro? Take it with him.

I loved him!! He was an awesome professor. He is very helpful. If you have to take Microbiology take it with him! He is the best. Work is not hard if you try and stay on top of everything.

I am taking his class right now and he is very very clear on lecture and walk student through lab step by step. All you need to do is to study for written exam, and lots of questions are from practice tests. He also give lots of extra credits. This man is very funny at class making endless jokes. I think I would get an A.

Dr. Kidane is very passionate about microbiology. He has a really funny sense of humor, so if your stuck up and don't like laughing, don't take his class. He is very knowledgeable and he gives you all the information that you need. Don't go to class late. I almost considered changing my major to microbiology because of this class!

I loved this guy! I was dreading having an 8 am lab but he kept me laughing and engaged the whole time. Lab was supposed to be 3 hours but I dont think we ever stayed longer than 2. Hes smart, funny and engaging. DO NOT BE LATE! If your lucky enough to not get locked out, he will make a spectacle of you walking in. Easy A- study the practice test

Seems harsh but is not as bad as it seems. You have to work for your grade it is all tests and quizzes. Read everything and do not procrastinate. Make sure you take advantage of his study guides they're helpful and show up to class on time. Overall, he has great humor and the class is not that bad. I took Microbiology online with Kidane.

He is the best science professor I've had in my 2 years of college. He makes things easy and really listens to the class concerns, if you voice them.

I was expecting this class to be easier but I also didnt put as much work in outside of class as I shouldve. Very nice, caring & funny guy. Lectures were fun to listen to but not much of lecture material was covered, only briefly mentioned. So I felt like lectures were kind of pointless. Overall I enjoyed the class. Very intelligent dude.

Dr. Kidane was helpful and reasonable. The activities in lab seem difficult, but he ends up being pretty generous with lab grades. As far as lecture exams go, they can be tough but he always gives practice tests that I'd say have around 80-85% of the questions that will be on the exam. He is also genuinely hilarious, and entertaining.

The best professor a person could ever ask for, super hilarious and has a kind heart, cares about the world and human, I learned a lot from him. I am not in this major but I really enjoyed this class, I would definitely recommand his course!

Dr. Kidane was fantastic! He was hilarious and seemed to really care for his students and made it very possible for everyone to do well. He gave great outlines of the lecture materials and also gave plenty of review material for exams and quizzes.

Really kind hearted and genuine teacher who really cared for students. He can be a little much at times, but has all good intentions. Dont be late. Exams are fine by studying practice exams and quizzes.

Professor Kidane is an amazing teacher. Just a few tips don't be late to class or lab. If late to lecture he will call you out and if late to lab he will lock the door. He tells you whats on your test which is 50 questions and all multiple choice. There were a few quizzes but he gives out practice quizzes which are similar to the actual quiz.

He was amazing. He explained everything very well and keeps you on your feet. You have to work a little for your grade but just take good notes in class. He lets you know whats going to be on exams through his lecture

I took micro blended with Dr. Kidane and I would 100% do it again. This class was very clear, easy to understand, and not at all overwhelming. Dr. Kidane is extremely knowledgeable and passionate, he tells you what you need to know without all the confusing fluff. He and his resources are very helpful.

Dr. Kidane is an amazing professor. You will learn so much about microbio. He's strict about attendance, miss two labs and it's an automatic fail. However, if you show up and do your reading, you will pass. There are only grades for tests, quizzes and 1 project, no homework or graded lab work. Will insult Conservatives, but otherwise hilarious.

I don't know where to begin. Professor Kidane was a true joy to have as an instructor. He actually wants you to LEARN and understand the topics. I had him during the pandemic, and everything was online, but He truly made me feel like I was in the classroom learning with him. He's fun and very knowledgeable. I wish he taught me every subject! I took micro at another school and dropped it. When I took it with Dr. Kidane it was like a breath of fresh air from the very first day! I trust his expertise and he really breaks things down to make it "make sense." I would 100% recommend his class!!! Just be on time!!! He is an AMAZING instructor!!

I enjoyed his class, although I only went in person for the labs. If you miss 2 lab sessions he will drop you from the class. His exams were quite easy and were similar to the practice questions. If you use the class materials and are caught up then this class should be easy. He also may come off as rude. But thats how he is I guess.

Firm, but he does care. The structure of this class has been great especially if you have ADHD! He grades few things, but you don't need a ton to get a good grade. He isn't too tough to grade, lectures are very interesting which helps to learn/pay attention, lab set up/manual is the best, and materials are straight forward. 10/10! High respect!!

I just today had my last class with him. Although Microbiology is very difficult he made it very enjoyable. He is very funny and kind! I would 10/10 recommended and I am so sad this class is over :(

I took this in blended form and was sad to see that there is no lecture component at all. Just pdf notes from Dr. Kidane and the textbook (which is TERRIBLE). But he provides review sheets and quizzes and exams are very similar to his reviews. I really loved him as a lab instructor, I just wish there was a better lecture component.

Professor Kidane comes off as intimidating, but he is extremely knowledgeable and wants students to succeed. Attendance for labs is MANDATORY, do not be late!

Professor Kidane's class is challenging but engaging. Attend lectures, use the textbook and Unstuck study for exam prep, and you'll learn a ton. Labs are mandatory - don't be late! Overall, a worthwhile course if you're willing to put in the work.

He does not like tardiness at all. He's not that bad compared to what I read about him. As long as you read the pdf lectures and study the practice quizzes he provides as well as chapter summaries from the book, you should be okay. PAY ATTENTION when he explains labs. As long as you play your part in the class, should not be too difficult.

I was nervous about microbiology but this professor made it seem easy, he talks about the topics with passion and explains them well. If we had a problem with an experiment we didn't have problem asking for help. There is a manual guide that has everything on it which helped with the lab quizzes.

Kidane is not that bad, class is straight to the point. Your grade is the exams (4 exams 50 questions) overall I don't think the class is hard but exams are rough! there's 3 quiz and 1 lab report that are worth 0.5%. There are practice exams/quizzes but they don't help as much. all lectures are PowerPoints, no homework, no extra credit.

Very serious about attendance. Can only miss two classes. He is funny, repeats himself often but it's entertaining. It shouldn't be too hard to pass as long as you review what he says to in syllabus. He is a rule follower. DON'T BE LATE!!!!! He was very mad at people who were late, even on first day. He is very knowledgeable.

At first, he comes across as intense, but he gradually warms up over time. He was very clear about what to expect on quizzes and exams, which made studying more manageable. There's no homework; your entire grade is based on quizzes and exams. One thing to note is that he does have a thick accent, which may be challenging for some students

Dr. Kidane's summer 2025 BIO-2215 was great. He takes microbiology seriously, but not himself: labs are one part science, one part stand-up comedy. Content is engaging and quizzes are straightforward. Show up early! To get an A on exams, don't just read his lecture notes or review slides; some questions only come from the textbook. "Moooooove!" :D

One of my favorite professors! Yes, your whole grade is based on exams, but it's nice not worrying about extra due dates. Obviously the material is going to be hard, it's Microbiology, but all I did was read the chapters and I got an A. If you are willing to take the time to study, take this class. Dr. Kidane is very funny and made labs enjoyable!
