A wonderful intellengent professor!! My interest in physics has greatly improved.
Very interesting teacher, he made my interest in physics blossom. He is clear, concise, and knows what he is talking about. A man you can trust to teach the class well.
He knows what he is talking about, gets to business, just don't argue with him. Also, he will give you an A if you bet him in Racet Ball. Good guy!
He has this note book, i dont' know how old it is but he just copies the notes from there to the board. Always makes student feel stupid if they don't ask the right questions or answer correctly. Never question him because then he will put you down and make fun of you in front of the whole class....
He's the worst instructor I've ever had! Doesn't know how to teach. All he does is give you a bunch of formulas and you're on your own...I don't know how the guys above actually think so highly of him?
Smart Guy, knows his stuff. His teaching style leaves alot to be desired. All he does is awnser questions from the book. He also seemed kinda distant from us, but was willing to work with you. Very Funny
Wow! What an incredible teacher. He's very fun and really enjoys the subject. Always giving positive comments even if you didn't do so well...what a nice change from the "average" professor. Class isn't too difficult, but be prepared as for any college course. He makes physics easier to understand. You will learn and enjoy his enthusiasm.
Teaches the subject in a very fast paste
This guy is brutal for PHY 222. He was mean, arrogant and unhelpful in understanding the material. U of M student be wary, he admitted he enjoy watching them suffer when they are just trying to get a C to transfer the credit. Take 222 with another professor.
Very difficult teacher. Nice guy and all. The final exam was the hardest test of my life. I spent a week (take home) working on it, getting help from my friends, and still got a C- on it. If you do the homework you might get by with a B-.
If you like someone that encourages you to do well with positive reinforcement then this is your professor. Not sure why the bad reviews, but he was very helpful, nice pace and very forgiving on grades if you just try. Excellent teacher and highly recommend if you want to learn physics. Twice as good a professor than my 121 prof. and interesting.
great teacher but is a strong advocate for discipline, cool guy to BS with though
He is the best Physics instructor I have had to date.
Good, I liked him... a lot!!
The class was a typical physics course. He makes you do problems on the board. Kind of intensive exams. If you are fairly good physics you'll be fine.
His class was difficult. He tends to overlook main concepts and instead focus on minor details & specific equations. His lectures aren't very helpful and his tests are hard. However, if you read the book and make sure you thoroughly understand the material, you'll be fine.
One of the best teachers I have ever had.
He knows his subject very well. Don't play or act-up in his class, he doesn't tolerate it. But if you want to learn physics, he is the best.
Don't take him. Really bad. He doesn't know how to teach. All he Dose is do problams on the board. You have to read the whole chapter word by word to understand any thing in that class. Don't take him, you will regrate it.Vary strict in the class. Do not take him.
Tough, but fair. Very helpful and friendly.
I do not know why people give him such bad reviews. He is a quick lecturer at times, but he slows down when asked questions. He rarely puts students down. The students who put one word comments obviously did not put much effort into his class if they cannot type more than one word for this. But overall a good teacher and very nice guy.
I am an engineering student and I had other instructors prior to taking Mr. Fayaz's class. He was by far the the most interesting and knowledgeable instructor I had. If you attend class regularly and solve the homework problems, you should get an A in his class.
Does not integrate labs with coursework. I doubt his course would live up to ABET standards, and will hurt you if you're transferring into engineering school. Gives misleading information about what will be on tests. No concepts, just equations... he literally says "think in terms of equations"
worst "teacher" ive ever had
He is a very professional teacher with a vast supply of knowledge. He is probably one of the best teachers on this campus, and I have had a lot of teacher too. He is very organized! Paces the class well!!! Very easy to talk to, and makes physics interesting and fun.
Horrible teacher. He makes people feel stupid when they ask questions, and most of the time he doesn't answer them and tells you to meet him after class. His exams are awful representations of what you learn. One of the worst teachers I have ever had.
He is a very good teacher. He dresses sharp too. I wish I could take more courses with him.
I really enjoyed his class. I appreciate how he really wants every student to succeed and I actually learned something. I have a completely different view of physics because of his class.
Mr. Fayaz is one of the best on this campus. He cares of every student's success. I learned a lot physics from him. Honestly, he is one of the few teachers that can explain physics well. excellent teacher.
I'm surprised with some of the bad reviews. As a former student of IB who took Higher Level physics, he could teach physics with different approaches and that's rare. He is the best physics teacher by far. He would go the extra miles too. Strengthen your math background first to understand physics, and you'll notice how good he explains physics!
He is OK as a person, but if you have not had a conceptual physics class, or if you do not have a strong math background, you will find his class is frustrating. Calc is not a prereq for this class, but it would be very helpful in understanding his presentation of the subject matter which is nearly entirely math based, an engineering based class.
Not a very good instructor. Very arrogant, shows favoritism towards his "good students" and doesn't really "teach" the material. If you want to learn physics from the other students in the class and not from a paid instructor, take his class. That is what his class entails, trying to decipher how another student "solved" the homework on the board.
Awful currently in his class.Straight A student in math except for his class. I did a problem on the board a different way and he just emberassed me instead of accepting the answer. Tests are a waste to study for since he makes up problems that have nothing to do with the book.
I don't get why these guys say bad stuff about this instructor. If you are serious student and follow his notes, it is not so bad. If fact, I actually learned about physics in his class. He is tough on anyone who is rude or disruptive, but otherwise he is kind and funny. I would recommend his class if you are transferring.
He is a great teacher. Yes, you have to work in this class, you have to read the book, and the majority of class is spent doing problems. And YES, that's the way it should be. If you want knowledge handed to you, don't take this class. If you want to learn from a great teacher, do. I had zero interest in physics and now it's actually entertaining.
I just finished this class and I think he is a very good teacher.
Despite his semi-cheerfulness, Prof. Fayaz was the first downright bad professor I've had at WCC. Other than his rudeness and inconsistent grading, he doesn't seem to have a very clear mastery of the subject. If you ask him a question that isn't covered in his personal notes, he will flail until an answer that "sounds" right comes out. Buyer beware
Solid Instructor, labs are good, lectures are long but interesting. Tip to do well on tests, Follow his instructions and don't miss any of his classes.
Hard exams. Confusing lectures. Labs are all pile all the end. Not very knowledgeable about the material.
Wonderful teacher ! Highly recommend to any student ! Very helpful and always open for questions. His number one concern is making sure his students know the material well. Doesn't give a lot of homework. Weekly quizzes to test your understanding. But they aren't difficult if you attend class and take notes.
Not necessarily an easy class, but he made it enjoyable. I could tell he knew his physics and was passionate about it. The exams were difficult, but not impossible. I would recommend him.
Fayaz is definitely an instructor who I liked after the fact. I realized in class he doesn't hand feed material like others, he doesn't hold anyone's hand and he prepares you for beyond his class. I learned more in his class with a C, than my friend in another class with an A. Yes, he's tough. But he is by far the one of the best instructors.
Excellent teacher, good interaction with students and very clear explanations. One of my favorite courses I took at WCC. Highly recommended.
Ok, Just for clarification if anyone is reading this. I posted a review of this professor earlier this morning, it should be the next one down after this. It's very positive, but registered as very low performance. That's due to me not understanding the scales, not an accurate review of him. Trust me, he's amazing. Sorry about this
AMAZING class. So much fun, he makes everything interesting and really engages the students. Cannot tell you how much fun he is to talk to, chat with and get help from. Makes class hard but EXTREMELY worthwhile. Cannot wait to take him again!
Was one of my better profs in that semester, good lecturer and answered questions well, was fair with all of the material, and made sure everything was understood
Great guy. took the class sometime back. very fair.
Best class I took at WCC.
Breaks everything down to an understandable level. Take him at any cost
Provides excellent verbal and pictoral explanations of course material. Classical notes and podcasts available and very helpful. Lots of material covered, must stay on top of it.
If you have to take physics, take Dr. Fayaz. He is very clear in the lectures, his exams are doable if you did the homeworks and went to lecture. Do not procrastinate. Physics itself tends to be a hard subject, but you cannot go wrong taking Fayaz.
Best teacher I've ever had! Very clear & easy to understand. Gives you extra help and time if you need it, which you shouldn't! Great guy! He is Funny, helpful, knowledgeable, easy to get along with.
He learned everyone's name, great guy, great teacher. His enthusiasm for teaching made the class much more enjoyable.
He really cares about his teaching and about his students. I only found a handful of profs like him.
I liked the way he zoomed through things and then went back really thoroughly before the exams. Sometimes it made the homework difficult, but it definitely made the exams easier, and their worth a lot more in the end so that's really what matters.
Efficiently moves through a large amount of material. Good, Passionate and efficient professor.
Great professor; very good at explaining things. Highly recommended.
A great man who truely loves to teach. He makes it as easy as possible for you to pass. The only way to fail is to not go to class.
Far and above the best Physics class that I have ever taken. The class is informative, mentally stimulating, and fun. Not to mention Professor Fayaz is HOT!
Spectacular professor! One of the best I have had in two different schools.
I graduated just this year from another university and Professor Fayaz is the only Prof. I remember. He was the reason I graduated with an Engineering Degree. Thank you.
Excellent class! Interesting material; easy if you understand the concepts. Just study for the exams and write decent papers and you should be fine.
I learned so much from this class and I really enjoyed it!
I enjoyed this class. The professor was very friendly and professional.
I am glad I took this class. I am learning a lot.
This was one of the best classes offered at WCC.
Prepare to teach yourself. Dr F and I quote "I'm an instructor, not a teacher."Poor instruction, book,us of class time, little visual examples, labs are do it yourself, tests & quizzes can't be kept for reference. Half the students are gone and many are upset. WCC isn't helping it's students by keeping teachers like Dr F or their standings. Don't take!
Class was hard but Fayaz is by far the best teacher for Physics. He explains concepts very clearly and he is the one that writes the exams for the class. Must take!
Amir is the man, take 111 with this guy and mechanics will make so much more sense.
People talk about teachers with tenure riding it out, Prof. Fayaz comes to mind. Old lectures, speeds through equations, prefer certain students, embarrasses students, doesn't teach the concepts well, and doesn't seem willing to either try new ideas. Could post a set of notes on Black Board, which would help. Nice guy, try a different Professor.
Amir is the man. Best physics professor hands down, as he actually genuinely cares about his students. Physics is a tough class and Amir made it way more understandable than other professors could. He is a must-take if you are in physics. Best prof ever.
Dr. Fayaz is amazing! Keeps you interested and makes topics fun even if you're not interested in science. The tests and the homework are extremely similar, so if you do the homework you'll be fine. Take this class!
Excellent Professor. Works through examples in class and give you time to try and solve it yourself. Great explanations and very helpful, go to class.
I came in hating physics and science in general and left loving it and getting involved in my work. The tests are incredibly easy if you do the work and look through your book. I highly recommend this class to non-science or science majors for its fun and simple layout that not only helps you learn, but allows you to relate it to real life.
Amir is one of the clearest lecturers I've had, and not just in physics, but compared to all the classes I've taken. His exams are challenging yet fair and he also gives lots of office hours for extra help. Do lots of homework problems and participate in lecture and you'll do well.
Awesome professor.
Dr. Fayaz may be one of the best, if not the best, professors I've had at WCC. I loved his teaching style and he is an extremely reasonable and helpful professor. Take any class of his if you can!
Professor Fayaz is definitely an instructor who I liked after the fact. I learned more in his class with a C, than my friend in another class with an A. Yes, he's tough. But he is by far one of the best instructors there is.
You can tell he's both an expert in the material, and really cares about his students and enjoys teaching. Best class I've ever taken.
I am graduating as a bio major and was looking for my most memorable teachers when I found this link. Amir taught me physics 2 years back and is by far the most memorable teacher I've had. He is tough but incredibly helpful. He taught us how to solve problems that has helped me later even in my bio classes! I wish we had more teachers like him.
The course material is not easy by any means, but Professor Fayaz keeps the lectures interesting and is always willing to answer questions. I suggest making sure to understand all the homework and practice exams as he tends to put similar questions on the actual exams!
Took him last Fall (F'14). Never got around to rate him on here last year, but he was so good I'm taking time now to do it. Not easy subject matter, but Prof. Fayaz is a top notch Professor. Works through examples in class and gives you time to try and solve them yourself. Would 110% take him again. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN.
So much better , it isn't even funny. He is very smart and very knowledgeable. He is a must for the engineering physics sequence. Plus, he's more knowledgeable than others.
I never took any form of physics in high school, so this class was extremely difficult for me. Prof. A. Fayaz was clear in class and helpful in office hours.
super talented, caring, he is the best .
Professor Fayaz teaches a very difficult course, but he teaches it very well.
Although, I am not doing that great in the class but the professor is excellent and makes the class very easy. I love his energy and how he cares for his students. The best professor.
Amir Fayaz is really attractive, nice, and helpful. He wants you to pass his class so he's willing to give participation points as extra credit and you can use index card for the tests.. I love astronomy but his cute demeanor made this class ten times more fun.
I really love Professor Fayaz !! He is so kind and helpful.
Really awesome teacher. Lectures were full just about every class and not because we all loved physics.
He's probably overrated, but still a great professor. Really engaged in students, super nice and helpful. He kinda dumbs it down a little, which has pros&cons. I recommend though, it's a fun class and he's good .
I would always find myself running away from Physics but thanks to Dr Fayaz I was given the material and lectures to overcome this fear and actually loving Physics now. Thank you so much Dr...
Abosolutely amazing teacher! He explains questions very clearly, and not too fast. Very gentleman. P.S. I went to some other class when I missed classes, so I can say he is the best phys111 teacher!
ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE BEST PROFESSORS I HAVE HAD IN MY LONG ACADEMIC CAREER.
He is very smart on the subject, but assumes everyone else is as well. He is rude at times, worst professor I've had
Mr. Fayaz is the best teacher that I have had at WCC. He is an incredibly engaging Instructor who truly cares about his students. If you have an interest inPhysics, don't miss your chance to take this awesome class.
Wonderful professor! He genuinely cares that students understand the material, and is always there to help students learn. The material is hard but it's easy to do well if you put in the effort. He also gives back the exams the next class , which is really nice.
Just AWESOME. Physics 222 becomes super easy if you take it with him!! Gotta go to class. It is worth it. He teaches well and keeps it fun.
Professor Fayaz actually does love his students, amazing guy. I took every course he taught and loved them all.
Absolutely terrific instructor, would recommend to anyone.
Hands down the BEST professor I've had in my whole college career. Genuinely wants you to succeed, provides very helpful feedback, encourages participation, gives relevant history of material and is SUPER nice. Class is not easy, you need to put in a lot of work if you want to do well. Wish I could take more of his classes!!
Genuinely a pretty good professor. I would recommend him to pretty much anyone.
He's cool, very energetic and obviously passionate about his field of study which helped me to be more interested in the course materials even though i hate science.
He is simply the best!
Best Prof, Extremely nice, Calm and fair. Amir Fayaz you are the best.
I doubt I'm going to encounter a better professor during my time at the WCC.
He's a great teacher. Teaches you what you need to know and teaches it well. He's tough on you and you do a lot of work in class, but it's worth it, and you can definitely learn a lot in this class.
He is very knowledgeable in physics but almost assumes students already know the problems. He also's says study the problems you be fine. Do not listen to this statement it is not TRUE AT ALL ! Some test material may have similar problems but very rarely. I would suggest reading the chapter throughly before he lectures. He does care that you pass.
He is a nice guy. Very passionate about physics. But ASSUMES students already know this field of science. He does not teach the material well at all. I was very dissapointed because everyone gave him great ratings, so I expected a phenomonal professor, but that wasn't the case. I don't recommend him.
He was honestly the best professor that I've had since being at WCC. He really does care about whether or not you understand the material. He is very specific about what you will be tested on and as long as you study and show up to class you'll do fine in the course. He also offers extra credit for the test and homework if you do poorly.
Fayaz is awesome. I loved going to class. He taught us the theory and then did examples like crazy. So helpful and I got a lot out of the class.
Dr. Fayaz is an absolute superstar professor. Very intelligent, great lecturer and he genuinely tries to help every student to succeed. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be in his class. Seriously , the best Physics teacher ever! Lovely accent as a bonus too. Highly respected and recommended.
The content and level that is administered in the class matches the evaluation. Fayaz does not just point at a power point, he actually puts the effort to use the white boards/overhead projector and helps us create detailed notes that become VERY helpful in the end.
Not sure why my comment got deleted on here - but short and simple coming from a 4.0GPA student - tests are NOT what you do in homework or class , maybe oNE question. Tests are 70% of your grade, miss 2 and you're already at a C. Teaches it as if you already know about physics. Labs(5 or so) and Papers (2).
Quite possibly my favorite prof I have ever had. I was lucky enough to have Amir Fayaz for bothPHY122 and PHY222. He is extremely dedicated to teaching which is hard to find . Phy222 isn't easy so be prepared to work but I would highly recommend taking it with Amir. He'll always be there if you have a question.
Dr. Fayaz is one of my favorite professors! Educated, experienced respectful, inspiring, and has a great sense of humor. He will go extra steps for his students to deliver an excellent quality of education. You want to get an A in Phy be truthful to yourself and the course and leave the rest for him. Or try to win a racquetball match with him
Amazing teacher! Makes sure that everything is clear, and always willing to help if anyone doesn't understand. He emphasizes what needs to be known, and is very enthusiastic about what he is doing. One of my favorite classes.
Had him for Physics 222 several years ago. He definitively stands out in my mind as by far the worst professor I have ever had. He doesn't explain things well; he just copies solutions to the homework problems from his binder onto the projector. If you ask him why something is the way it is he always drops the ball on explaining. A cruel grader.
He speaks and writes clearly. He paces his lectures in such a way as to keep everybody on the same page. Probably the best professor I have had in the physics department. He generally follows the textbook, but also make sure to review what he said during lecture.
Prof. A. F. is great, his lectures are amazing as if he knew Sir Issac Newton personally. He has homework for each chapter that is not mandatory, but if you do it, you're sure to get an A. He laughs at himself and really enjoys what he does, which is infectious to his students. 10/10 would take again.
Nice class, always keeps it entertaining .
One of the nicest and fairest professors I have had in college. I missed an exam and a quiz , and he worked as hard as he could to fit my schedule in order to make it up. He knows not everyone will use this class for their actual majors, and tries to make the class fair.
Fayaz is by far the best physics professors at WCC. Take this class seriously because it is a great basis for ALL of your other physics classes. DO NOT underestimate the take-home final. Show up to all of the classes, do all of the in-class exercises (which are quiz and midterm questions), and do all of the homework and you'll get an A.
Outstanding lectures! Very well with explanation of new concepts. One of the best teachers I've had.
Teaches like you should already know the content.
Highly recommended !
Super cool guy. Pretty difficult class. Going to class is fun though.
Made topics very clear. Great with examples and getting major points across.
A great professor.
Taking Physics 211 from anyone else would be a mistake.
Basically just a terrible teacher. Clearly doesnt know the topics. He just has an answer key and shows you how to do howework problems by copying the solution from the answer key in front of everyone.
TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! Amir Fayaz is the best professor that I have ever had in my life so far.
Best physics Prof. I ever had! He teaches the fundamental concepts of each section of every chapter and he simplifies every difficult problems. Teaches you how to apply the concepts that you learn step-by-step. I went from a D+ (1st time w/ a dif prof.) to a B (w/this teacher).
What a great teacher! Not a fan of Physics, but he made it bearable.
Very Good!
Professor Fayaz is amazing!!!! Highly recommend this class!!:)
Probably the best professor I've had at WCC so far. Fayaz is a genius and a great teacher, he really helps you understand the material with his very thorough lectures and practice problems. Exams were tough, but the quizzes were fine so it kind of balances out. Definitely do the problem sets and do not miss the lectures..
Amir Fayaz has an organized style of lecturing that I find incredibly helpful. He is very willing to answer questions, and doesn't make students feel dumb for asking. The classes are actually enjoyable and he has a good sense of humor.
Professor Fayaz is a really caring guy, but perhaps not the best lecturer. His solutions are copied from a manual, which is not as helpful as if he were to solve the problems from scratch. The workload is really intense because of the way his class is organized. You can earn up to 5% of the course in extra credit by solving problems on the board.
I cannot say enough good things about him. He is such a good guy and cares about his students. He gives you all the tools you need to succeed . Best professor I've ever had. His lectures are informative and clear. He's not just reading a power point, he's showing you what's going on.
Professor Fayaz is a good guy, and a good teacher. Just some things I didn't like that I probably wouldn't take him again. If you aren't a good quiz taker, there is one every week. Quizzes are 15% of your grade, I'm better at tests so that's where my grade went down. Puts things on test we never go over, & thinks you can do the problem. No sense.
Solid choice. Very clear Professor. His jokes are amazing (but people seem to not get those all the time)
Amazing Prof. Best class I took at WCC.
He is condescending and says things like. If you do all the Homework , Youll Ace the class (I did the homework multiple times and still didnt do well on the tests), This chapter is really hard, really good one so pay attention (says it on every single chapter). He does 4 tests, worth 70% grade with 7 difficult problems. I cried a lot.
His lectures were great, I read the book as well and my grades on the exams were very good. He sets his class up so it matches the book and it is very clear what will be on the exams. He seemed like a great person and someone who loves his job.
I don't understand the hype around Fayaz. He is extremely condescending, difficult to respect, & doesn't adapt to the needs of his students at all-if a class average for a test is a 64% in a class consists predominantly of UM students, you should consider that as a sign of failure to teach on your part. Conceptually easy, but horrible instructor.
Mr. Fayaz could not do a basic circuit problem without his course guide answer key that works out the problems, so he sent a student to the board to do it and explain it to the class(and him). He seems like a nice enough guy, but I dreaded going to his class as it was a waste of time aside from the semi-weekly pop-quizzes. Would not recommend.
Most classes, I felt like Fayaz's goal was to lecture too fast for the class to wrap their head around what was being lecture, so that no one asked for clarification or deeper explanations for the concepts or how he "did" sample problems on the board. By "did" I mean copy the worked out answers from the answer key booklet. He is old-fashioned also.
Amir is a very nitpick grader, he enjoys docking points for small errors just as much as he enjoys talking about his graduate work at Michigan and his IQ and playing racquetball at the NCRB. Didn't learn much from him. He was a nice guy I guess, but he did threaten to call security on this one student for having her phone out on the desk. C+ rating
I've had him for both semesters and he really is the best. He genuinely cares for his students by holding lots of office hours and giving us the resources to succeed. I recommend doing all the problems sets and practice problem, and clearing up questions at office hours because PHY211 or PHY222 aren't straightforward and it's okay to ask questions.
I took Physics 211 with Dr. Fayaz for the last winter semester. We had to switch to Virtual learning because of COVID19 in the middle of the semester. The transition to virtual teaching by Fayaz was amazing and very smooth. He is an excellent professor and I loved his style of teaching. I am going to take more Physics classes with him..
Fayaz actually cares about teaching and is very thorough in his lectures. He will stay on a topic if you don't understand it and is just an overall very nice and welcoming person.
Class difficulty depends on if you take good notes during the lectures.
Best Physics teacher out there.
This is the best class that I have taken at WCC.
Professor Fayaz has been an inspiration/very encouraging. He was great in class with great feedback to questions. WI2020 was especially difficult because of CoVid-19. We had to go remote. He sent many emails + always reminded us to check our emails, syllabus + Blackboard. I missed some deadlines. He always accepted my work--a test was 1 of them.
Last semester I took physics 1 with a different professor and had to withdraw because I didn't understand any of the concepts. I took it with Fayaz this semester and it's the best choice I've made in my academic career. It's not worth it to take physics with anyone else. His tests are fair and his notes are really helpful.
Amir Fayaz was one of the best instructors I have ever had. I enjoyed the classes I took with him very much. There is an special energy about his classes.
I took this class in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although I only got to experience half of the class in person because all classes were forced to move online, it was still one of the best classes I have taken so far. Professor Fayaz was very supportive during the crisis.
The best class I took at WCC.
LOVE HIM! My fav professor so far! I actually enjoyed Physics!
Best professor for PHY222. Class not too difficult if you put in some time. Tons of practice material.
One of my favorite professors. I had him for my PHY111 at WCC. He's an engaging, enthusiastic, relatable, and a great professor. He gives great real world advice and his class and teaching style really emphasize student learning and interest.
Fayaz is awesome. I wish I could take another course with him before I graduate. The material is tough, but he simplifies it for you. I recommend Amir for PHY222.
He's probably a good professor in person, but online I feel like I didn't learn much. His tests were copied from the textbook and the quizzes were too. He didn't grade our labs or papers very strictly and they were pretty much busy work. The way he answered questions made no sense to me...
Professor Fayaz is great. He is super caring and kind. He makes you feel comfortable. The subject is hard but he is always ready to answer questions. He will go as slow as you need and really wants you to learn.
All I will say is look at the number of reviews this guy has. It is insane how well loved he is, but he totally deserves it because of how nice he is to his students.
He is such a gem. He truly cares about his students, and even through a virtual setting, he tries hard to connect with his students and keep them engaged. He always has a smile, and will answer any questions students have. Such a sweet professor, definitely want to take him again!
The subject matter is not lightweight. The concepts are difficult to convey but I managed to learn more from this instructor than any other at WCC.
The guy truly cares about his students and treats them like they're his own kids. He is very caring and understanding. There are 8 pop quizzes throughout the class so beware of those. There are also 2 papers which are quite time consuming. The labs also take time. Overall good experience and I look forward to taking PHY222 with him next semester.
Great professor, good lectures and be prepared to work.
This instructor is an amazing teacher! He has made physics a real treat and has made it a really enjoyable class. He is one of the best professors I have ever had.
The reason for why I tagged him as "hilarious" is not because he was purposely funny, but because he was so bad. Everyone is a "good, sharp student". A C is treated as a good grade. Has trouble explaining his own work and will constantly look answers up. He is a nice teacher, but he's not good at teaching at all.
Hands down, the best professor I've had. He gives very specific and helpful feedback, and very quickly too for all labs and tests. His class Syllabus are also clear in instructions, and his grading isn't harsh so long as you put in the care and time. Beyond that, he's an amazing, and caring person.
He is the best Professor I have ever had. He is a legend.
I became a Physics major because of him.
The professor makes physics harder than it needs to be, he does try to explain everything but then just makes it even more confusing. The only reason I have an a in class is cause I already know the subject. The average grade in the course is a c- with only students with prior experience with physics passing. He is tough to understand.
He is very nice and wants to help. He tries to make you think.
Very laid back. Was able to relate every topic to the real world which made this class very interesting. This is not a blow off class, he will test your knowledge and your ability to think critically.
Just an overall GREAT class.
The best science prof at WCC....Extremely intelligent and helpful..still makes class fun and interesting while keeping it really easy..I learned what Analytical Physics is all about.
This was one of the best classes I had taken at WCC when I was going to school. I used all the knowledge I had collected from Professor Fayaz for my other future science courses.
I had Professor Fayaz in Fall of 2019. Professor Fayaz was an inspiration/very encouraging. He was great in class with great feedback to questions. I had missed some deadlines but he always accepted my work.
He is very good.
from an old alum... I credit Professor Fayaz with the reason I got my first job and still love working for the same company (for 11 years!). like it or not those Problem solving skills and his emphasis on 'work ethic' were key!...
Very sincere and effective professor. ..Excellent class.
Best Professor of my academic career. His course was inspiring, out-of-the box, and engaging. If you weren't convinced that Physics is limitless before, you will be after this class. Take it.
super strict on anything you do. Can't come in late without being confronter, can't use your phone whatsoever, very tough grader. class is just exhausting to go to.
Professor Fayaz was Great. I really liked his style of teaching and learned a lot. Thank you.
Please avoid at all costs. This teacher only uses textbook. Speeds through problems and is not understanding. He treats students like children not adults and his system for extra credit is flawed. Tests and quizzes are hard and he is not organized. These reviews are alarming. Everyone I have talked to irl says to avoid him. Please listen to me.
Great professor, good lectures and be prepared to learn and apply Physics in Engineering and Science world. I wish I had him in my Math classes as well.
Excellent class. Looking back I miss WCC and him....I learned so much.
Despite being kind and encouraging person, Prof. Fayaz's teaching falls short. For a new chapter he merely lists formulas and definitions on the blackboard, without any examples or explanations. In class, he just solves HW problems. His responses to questions lack clarity and do not enhance understanding of the subject. Very old-fashioned teaching.
GREAT class and overall a great experience. I enjoyed this class very much and I am sure I am getting an A in the class.
Prof is a nice person. His teaching style is extremely old school and only uses the book. I'm an A+ student but I struggled in this class more than any other I've taken! Tests were 7 questions for 3 units so one wrong thing and your score is gone. They're graded harshly with little partial credit. I forgot to square the final answer and -10pts.
He was able to relate every topic to the real world which made this class very interesting. I am taking PHY222 in Winter with him as well.
Amir Fayaz was an awesome professor, always came to class with a clear idea of what he was going to cover, and presented topics in a very clear, organized manner. Lectures were largely example based (and corresponded almost directly to homework and exam problems), which worked very well for me. I wish I could take more classes with him.
Amir is the man. He's so cute and his lectures are great. The only thing I disliked about his lectures was that he derived every equation. He normally gives hints on what will be on the exam, which is super nice. He actually teaches the material, unlike other profs.
Nice guy, aweful teacher. He's impressed with our classes C- average. 65% of the grade is based on 4 tests that are 28 questions combined. Miss a formular or do it in a way he doesn't understand be prepared to loose 2% of your grade. Oh and he doesn't teach. Gives problems as homework (not graded), then spends 3 hours doing them in class.
I took this instructor for a lower level physics class and plan to stay with him for the higher levels. His extra credit system seems a little flawed, but he is fair when it comes to grading. The class was easy to pass as long as you put in a little time an effort.
I learned a great deal from Dr Fayaz. He has a cheerful demeanor and overall wonderful personality. I am going to take another Physics class with him during Winter term. Thank you Dr. Fayaz.
Extremely easy to follow, clear, and helpful. I had Fayaz for both 111 and 211 and he has made the material understandable in both classes. He also has a great sense of humor which makes the material less boring.
Prof Fayaz is just not a good teacher, struggles to explain content properly and yaps all the time. Pop quizzes were annoying and the tests are quite hard, questions sometimes straight from the book but some aren't, and since he doesnt teach, the exams are hard. Would avoid if possible, but if you have no other choice, you can survive.
Prof Fayaz does not teach and copies notes from the textbox. He spends EVERY class doing homework problems (copies the solutions) and expects you to know all of it already. A lot of people ended up dropping since they were going to fail. There are 4 tests with 7 questions, pop quizzes, and extra credit if you do a hw problem in front of the class.
Physics requires understanding not copying and pasting notes and problems from textbook. Tough problems on pop quizzes and exams. He gives problems from the textbook, but he does not explain them well. He just copies the answers from his notes. BEWARE
Prof. Fayaz was the best Professor I have had . I am a student at UofM now and will graduate with honors next semester.
Took this class for fun and it paid off. Very funny and smart professor. Lectures flew by with him teaching them, but they were very content-heavy. It's smart to attend class, that's what really helped me out along the way! Make sure to do the practice problems at the end of the book. Overall, highly recommend!
Don't take if you have a delicate ego. He will call everything easy. Lectures do explain well, but it is hard to get your questions across to him, I don't know if it's a language barrier or what. Easy to get on his good side if you show up to class early and participate well in lab, and then he will grade you easy. Up to 3% extra credit.
The best class I had at WCC. He made Physics to be my favorite subject.
Fayaz is a great teacher to take once. The overall experience was stressful, exhausting, and upsetting; but he made my workflow so much better - to the point where upper WCC STEM classes aren't giving me any issues. I feel like he mentally prepares you for U-M CoE's difficulty curve. I really wish he'd be more accessible outside of class, though.
I just graduated from University of Michigan and was thinking of Professor Fayaz and his classes I took with him. I learned so much in his class. He prepared us for bigger goals in life. Thank you Professor. I miss him.
