New to CSUN. Seems to be trying to prove something. His class has 2 midterms40%, 3 assignments 15% (timed quiz from book), and a final40%, Attendance is 5%. Midterms in class are closed book/note, with half-page cheat sheet. He does not accept any logical argument when there is an issue with a question/answer. Would not take him again.
The content of this class is difficult no matter what professor you take. But its mandatory for business majors so brace yourself. His class doesnt involve much which is a blessing and a curse, find friends, do the hw in groups and use all your resources, if you do that you will pass.
When you first meet Prof. Gharehgozli, you'll notice he speaks like Gru. Other than that, he really works with his students and most assignments are based online. I highly recommend to make a study group to finesse the assignments. It is very lecture heavy and assignments/exam are based on questions on the text book.
Professor Amir is very knowledgeable in SOM, however his lectures are very HEAVY. Each powerpoint consists of about 60-80 slides. The assignments he gives are somewhat helpful though the exams are similar. One thing i disliked about his class was that sometimes he would try to rush through towards the end, leaving me confused.
Professor G is an awesome professor! He is hilarious and makes the lectures easy to follow and fun! I learned a lot in his class and would definitely take him again! He has 3 assignments and 2 midterms and 1 final. The assignments are open book and you get a 1/2 page cheat sheet front and back for the exams.
Professor G is great, he does everything to improve your grade. His grading is very clear and all questions and assignments are from the book. He assigns 3 homework from the book, 2 midterms and 1 final. I really enjoyed the class and would definitely take him again.
Really annoying, hard to learn anything in that class.
He is great!
Awesome professor, he knows what he is talking about...
His course is very structured. Follow the course materials and you will get a good grade. No Worries!
Difficult to understand. Difficult class. Does not really care about if students get the material. LEctures are long and boring. Daily attendance quizzes
He is great at what he teaches. Take his course.
Professor Amir was great. This course was hard regardless of the professor you take it with, and professor Amir makes it easy for you to pass. Best way is to study for this course in a group.
Best professor one can take for SOM 306! Do not choose any other professor if you have the opportunity!!! Explains the material throughouly & gives students extra points if you participate. Highly recommended taking during the summer.
Professor Amir was the best. Although the course is challenging and there is a lot of material to know, he provides all the information on his slides which you can access on canvas. He gives homework assignments from the book and gives extra points if you participate.
He is funny but I would suggest that you take notes. Assignments and midterms are important to your grade. He enjoys being sarcastic.
My favorite professor this semester for sure. He cares about his students and knows the subject very well. He makes the class a lot more fun than you would expect and I recommend him!
Attendance is on lockdown browser with location checked. His grading is some what fair but you could fail if you don't keep up with the material or are lazy. His lectures are important for the TEST, i suggest to take lots of notes as most problems come from the lectures and are written by him. He makes an effort to pass his students which is nice.
Great professor, attend class take notes and you will pass.
Professor Gharehgozli, is the Greatest. I have him MW and by far the best professor. I highly recommend him. Class is based on attendance quizes, mid terms and final.
Professor Amir is great. He makes you laugh, he is caring at the same time. It is just that you should be there for the lectures to get good grades.
He gives study guides for the midterms and final, which really helps. Assignments are from the book. Hard class but easy to pass and even get a good grade if you attend and study.
Exams are not cumulative. Exams similar to study guides and Assignments. He is very caring.
I could not pass this course with any other professor except Prof. G!
Because of Coronavirus, the second half of class was online. His online class was even better. I enjoyed the videos. The exams were online He provides sample exams which significantly helped. Many questions showed up again in the exams. I wish I could take another course with him.
He is a good prof. I took the class online. Easy class. Online Videos are very clear.
Teaches the course very well. Easy math. He will give you lots of opportunities to pass the class with a good grade. Half of the exam questions are directly from the study guide, the rest of the questions have the same concepts different numbers. Therefore you need to master the study guides and the assignments.
3 tests, 25 ?s each, all non-cumulative (75%), 3 Assignments (15%), Attendance (10%). SOM is a hard class because of how boring and complex it is. Prof. gives study guides for all 3 tests and tells you that 9-12 of the 25 questions on the test are word-for-word from study guide (which gives you automatic 40-50% on tests if you remember answer).
After switching to online format, prof. posted videos of all lectures which helps a lot. Isn't lazy like most professors who will just tell you to read something. He is always at office hours to help and answer questions. Very funny guy and knows that SOM is a boring class and will try to make it easy. You will learn if you try and pass with B/A.
Professor Gharehgozli is the best. You have to work for the course but he does everything to help. Very caring.
This class is the best of the bests. Do not hesitate to take this class.
Professor Gharehgozli is one of the best and takes the pain out of SOM. I was scared going into this class but he made the material understandable and is always willing to help out his students. His sense of humor also made the class enjoyable. Work hard and he'll help you succeed.
Fall 2020, Online: Multiple quizzes and assignments, two midterms, and one SAP project instead of Final Exam. This material is VERY heavy, so get ready to spend a lot of time on this class. No classes until the last four weeks, so work on your own until then. ASK QUESTIONS, he will help you, and get ready to work for your grade. Good Professor!
Having Dr. Gharehgozli was not bad. He posts lecture recordings on canvas. There are two midterms, one final (not cumulative), three assignments, and ten quizzes all online. He also goes over quizzes and assignments during office hours. Please take this course seriously as the material is difficult.
He is the best SOM 306 professor. Quizzes are easy. Assignments are from the book. Exams are partially from the study guides.
Prof. Gharehgozi was kind enough to write me a recommendation letter. I really appreciate it.
Honestly this was one of the worst and hardest professors i have ever taken in CSUN. There are so many other professors and you should go with ANYONE else. I could barely understand what he was saying. Even if you get 69.99 percent, you will still get a D. He's not nice to the students and honestly doesn't care about them.
He is the best among all the professors who offer this course. Do not hesitate to enrol if you get a chance. He is very caring and respects everyone. He provides you with everything you need to pass this class with a good grade. He solved many sample problems and gave a study guide for each exam with questions that would show up in the exam.
The professor IS VERY VERY TOUGH at the beginning. In the first couple of days he is very strict and very difficult to work with, but then he becomes sooo loyal and nice. JUST DON'T DROP! I really recommend him. His class is not easy, but it is doable if you put in the effort. His office hours and lectures are useless. It's mostly self-studying.
Amazing Professor. Came up with clear rules in the beginning. Very nice at the end. cannot imagine that I could pass this course with any other professors.
YOu have to put in the effort to study and teach yourself or you will not pass this class.
Take this class with any other professor if you have the chance. He tried being "nice" at the end to get on the good side of his students. His real personality is being rude to students at times when they ask him questions, not nice. And his exam questions are sometimes way different than what's on the study guide. Avoid.
He had pre recorded lectures for each section, class time was for taking a quiz, and for reviewing it. Half way through semester made quizzes available all week, not during class and were easy. He gave out study guides for each tests and 40-50% of the study guide were on the tests with switched numbers which he announced. Get the grade you work for
Professor Amir is great, he is caring and he makes tough content easy and clear. He has clear instructions that if you follow you will have good grades. He is the best for this course.
Rather inconsistent class. Not only do the questions take a very long time to complete, but they often don't reflect the lecture and you will be timed on tests. Lots of abstract content that isn't fully covered. Crazy class in the beginning but definitely chilled after the first few weeks. He was nice but it was overwhelming.
Definitely take it with someone else. He acts like he is teaching but all he is doing is reading off the ppt. Your grade is based solely on the 3 exams. 30% each and 10% is homework and quizzes. Quizzes are every other week and only three major homework assignments. Again, only 10% is all that. The recorded videos he had helped alot. No quizlet :(.
He is an amazing and inspirational professor. He knows the course materials by heart. His lectures are clear. He solves many sample problems in class which is necessary for this quantitative course. The exams are easy based on the study guides and sample problems. Assignments are easy and from the questions available in the book.
He solves sample problems. No other professor does that. The sample problems saved me. Amazing!
This class has is hard and has a lot of content but he gives you all you need to understand and pass. If you are willing to watch a few 10-20 min lectures a week and take good notes on them, this class will be easy. Dont fall behind and do the study guides/sample problems and you will be fine.
Class was really hard in general. You have to put in work outside of class in order to get a clear understanding. I had an A leading up to the final and ended up with a B- for reference as to how little assignments there are. Quizzes often 5 questions, miss 1 and you're already at a B
Professor Gharehgozli was okay and his lectures were good. If you're not a SOM major, I don't think you'd find his class amusing. The tests had a ridiculous time constraint (20 questions for 1 hour 15 mins) and the test questions were much harder than the quizzes and assignments. You really have to study to get a good grade
Make sure your attendance is good. He takes random attendance quizzes. Sometimes calls on you during class only to ask if everything is clear so make sure you are present. Some midterm questions are from his practice exams just different #'s. Overall, nice professor and was not difficult.
Few quizzes that dont affect your grade nearly as much as the tests do. The class is pretty hard so you will have to put in a lot of time for this class. He will NOT change a grade even if its .01% away so dont bother asking. Hes not very caring at all. Make sure to study or you will fail.
He is amazing. I just took Midterm 2. I studied the end-of-chapter problems (took so much time though) and the study guide which helped me a lot for the exam. The best SOM 306 Professor at CSUN.
Don't take this professor, skip a semester if you have no choice. Sometimes he berates students if they have a different opinion. His exams are hard, and the questions are minimal, sometimes each question will be like 2% of your grade. Heavy for an introductory class. I survived with a C good luck!
You need to understand the materials of the class and never blame the professor for your failure he tells you to practice the questions from the textbook and when you take the test the question is almost the same and you will know whether you study the book or not.
He makes sure everyone understands the material before moving on to any new topics. You can tell he genuinely cares and is available to answer any question during class or out of class. As long as you practice the homework problems and go over your notes from class the quizzes, assignments, and tests are relatively "easy".
Great Professor, you need to read and do the practice question from the textbook and it will help you when you take the test.....
He might be a hard professor but he pretty much tells you to practice the question textbook and when the test comes around the question are almost the same always do the work and never be lazy in this class. He goes over the assignment to see how to get the correct answer.
If u need to learn take this class with professor Amir, he is amazing. His lectures are clear, his exams are easy based on the study guides and sample problems. Helpful and caring professor. I hope I have more classes to take with him. Take professor Amir no matter if it's Fall or Summer semester.
Great professor he lectures fast, but he warns you to read the chapter before the lecture. In addition he has YouTube videos that are great for reviewing or if he lectures too fast for you. As long as you study the of chapter questions and study his practice questions for quizzes, you should pass easily. You can tell he cares about your success.
The best Professor at CSUN! Definitely I will recommend to take him. He is very friendly, kind and helpful.
He might be a scary professor at the beginning by telling you there will be a lot of work but the question is whether you as a student are willing to do the work and do what the professor tells you like doing the practice questions from the textbook and any study guide he gives.
The material is hard (math heavy) but he teaches it well & provides u with all the materials needed to succeed. 3 non-cumulative tests weeklyish quizzes. Do questions in the back of the book, some of the same ones on the assignments; if u buy the same edition of the book the numbers will be the same. Do the study guide test questions are similar.
Very organized and caring Professor. He dropped 2 lowest grades for quizzes and assignments. Always included 6 questions from study guide for exams. Take this class.
Professor Amir is a great professor to take. Just need to know you future students need to do the work he assigned and do what he tells you to do like do the reading from the textbook because he wants you as his students to pass his course but if you are lazy then good luck for your career.
FAKE REVIEWS! He indirectly asked students in class to give him good reviews. HE IS AN AWFUL PROFESSOR WHO DOES NOT CARE AT ALL. He loves to put trick questions on quizzes and exams to further confuse students. He can be very mean. You WILL hate this class
Professor Amir, is a good professor, even when he provide the materials for pass this class he lacks empathy for his students and is a little messy while resolving problems. The class is very heavy so be ready. Quizzes every week, 2 midterm and the final. Do all the exercises from each chapter, be committed, and use the tutors help! Good luck!
I didn't purchase the textbook and did fine in the class. His quizzes aren't easy. He records his lectures and posts them. At the end of the semester we had an SAP case study instead of a final. We did have 2 exams and 2 homework assignments to complete.
Don't take this professor. He is the best one to make your GPA as the lowest that it is. 2 Midterm and Final which is heavily affect grade. 9 quizzes and 3 assignments with less effect on grade. Yes he dropped two lowest grades for quizzes and assignments and that might be change your grade %0.01.
He is a great professor. Lectures are important as he solves examples and exams are based on lectures. He is caring, if you attend classes and put in little effort you will be fine. Would recommend him.
I have five words "I do not take him" I am so sad that these reviews were fake; he is a harsh grader and does not care about it. I was so freaking close to a B. I recommend to everyone to stay away if you want your GPA to drop.
Participate in the class, do the work and you will be fine. He is a great professor for this subject and he has clear grading system. He also drops lowest quiz scores.
Not the best prof., not the worst prof. Attendance not mandatory but I highly recommend it. Straightforward teaching style. Can be rude sometimes without realizing it. If you do the practice problems in the textbook and study you should be fine. Chooses 5-9 questions from study guide to put on midterm. Allows a review cheat sheet on exam days.
Very generous with extra credits, for exam one and two he gave us up to 10 points extra credit and for the final he just gave everyone 20 points extra credit for free, so if you had 100/100 you get 120/100. That helped a lot.
Take this professor if you want to struggle for a whole semester. All of these positive reviews are essentially faked due to additions of extra credit. Point being, even if you study hard, the average grades for the each midterm and final is 50-60 percent, essentially failing, not a good class to learn in as well as not good for the health
Professor Amir Gharehgozli, Is a GPA destroyer. There are 2 Exams and 1 Final, 75% of grade, which are very hard. The Avg exam scores were 50 & 60. The Final was very hard as well. The stuff he teaches vs the stuff he gives in the exam is entirely different. There are also Quizzes and 3 Assignments, 25% of grade. I highly recommend not taking him.
This professor doesn't get enough credit honestly. If you are complaining about your grade in this class, I promise you he is not the problem. You have to actually put in work because SOM is not an easy subject. He also gives a ton of extra credit, so there should be no reason why you would fail this class. Take his class if you are ready to learn.
This professor is Awesome. Finally passed this class after failing 2 times with all the other professors.
His lectures aren't very informative as the format of the quizzes and exams are very different. He's not all that great at teaching students how to solve problems as he just focuses on applications supposed to formulas. Offers extra credit and exams include 50% of the same questions from study guides. Not hard to pass if you ACTUALLY study.
Loved this class. He is talented at getting the class to understand difficult subjects. Has a good sense of humor and willing to go over the subject again if anyone needs.
Amir lacks accessibility, dismisses questions in class, and hinders learning. Post-exams, there's a belief review, individual mistakes remain unknown, leaving us uncertain.Tests are notably tough and tricky, with the class average around 50%. Have to $ for extra credit. Requests us for positive reviews on RMP. TRUST, think twice before considering.
Professor Gharehgozli is an inspiring professor, if you just pay attention, you will understand the concepts. IF you are having trouble, he takes his time to go over it again. For teaching a tough subject, he is definitely a professor who will try his best to make it easy and clear to understand. He's also funny and cracks jokes in class.
Grades from 25% Quizzes & Assignments, 25% Midterm #1, 25% Midterm #2, and Final 25%. Offer 5% extra credit for attendance. Maybe offer another 5% extra credit if he does a tech workshop on Saturdays. Provides study guide questions; 9 questions will be on the exam out of 20 questions, but numbers will be different. Use chapter reviews in the exam.
Good professor - I think he truly understands the dilemma between learning and grades - I cant compare much given that he was the only professor available for such a course ... overall OK do with that what you will
Overall he's a good professor and knows his material. My only complaint is that there is no opportunity for growth or to learn more as a student. If you ask a question, he can be dismissive. So just be prepared to just listen to his long lectures based on the book.
After learning that he indirectly asks students to put "good reviews" on here, I figured I'd give my honest opinion. Lectures are long & boring. Makes snarky comments about people & puts you on the spot. If you're looking for a class that is based on exams for you final grade then take him. But if you actually want to learn the material don't take!
He is just amazing. He curved the grade significantly (UNBLEIVEABLE!). The course is difficult but he lectures in a way that can be followed easily. If you want to get a good grade take the course with him for sure.
I would recommend not to take this professor, I thought he was very unhelpful, and especially for me I would ask for help multiple times and he would never help me. He would say look at the book again, and you will understand. I Honestly don't know how he got such a high rate my professor rating.
Loved this class. Everything was super clear. Exams were straightforward, around 50% from the study guide. Assignments were from the book.
I only passed because I took this course with him. He also considered attendance as extra credit work and gave some points because of that. Thank you Prof. G.
Great Professor, very knowledgeable, has a great sense of humor. Grading is straight forward. Professor is very nice and kind, he remains me of my father. Take him.
The worst professor I ever had at CSUN. He is not a good teacher. Makes you afraid to ask questions bc he will make you feel dumb. I've had A's throughout my college career, maybe a few B's. This is the only class I have ever failed. Retook w/ a different professor and while the course is tough, I still finished with a B. Take anyone but him.
His lectures are very difficult to sit through and to pay attention to. Most of our class was disappointed in their performance on our exam. He is very sweet but it doesn't matter cause we're all here for a good grade anyway. If your learning style is solely based of listening and lectures, id recommend trying him out, he just wasn't my cup of tea
