Good teacher. He tries to be funny, so you'll laugh at his bad jokes. The class is pretty simple, just read the book and understand the info and you'll do well. Class isn't mandatory, even tho he said he'd take attendance, but going helps you retain the info for tests.

Very easy to understand as long as you go to class. Has some humor which adds to class and keeps your attention. Very nice guy, teaches well. Barely read the book, just did the study guide and got As on all of the tests

Definitely gives a lot of extra credit and mainly has the daily journals to worry about but other than that just go to class and the tests won't be hard at all.

Great Professor! Highly Recommend! If you show up to class & pay attention/take notes, you are good to go! 10 point quizzes right before tests, pretty easy. Gives weekly journals & if you participate in all of them you can receive extra credit, only some are taken for credit, He offers other extra credit too. I did rent the book, I never used it.

Really nice prof. Funny and makes the class interesting. 2 midterms and 1 final, all multiple choice. Gives study guide. I usually spend 30-40mins per chapter so that's about 3hours of study time before each exam. textbook needed for A. Gives plenty of extra credit after late drop ddl. We had 7 marks of extra credit out of a total score of 200.

Marvasti is great.. nice and funny guy, fair grader and gives lots of extra credit. Attendance is definitely necessary, he does roll and an activity mostly every class, which earns you points. Missing them might hurt your grade, and they're easy points anyway. Interesting material, but is a little tough to pay attention sometimes. Easy grade though

I really enjoy this class, solid professor. Grading was very straightforward and fair, offers a few extra credit points. Did not need text book and little homework but you must pay attention and take good notes. Make the effort to participate, take solid notes, study for exams/quizzes and you will get an A.

Soc. 005 with Dr. Marvasti is one of the best classes I've ever enrolled. You won't regret taking this class obviously as long you keep up with the material.

Amazing guy, really wants you to do well. Very clear in his lectures and very clear notes, the material is mostly common sense and you will most likely not need the book. Participate in class and take good notes you will do well. Yes he's also adorable.

A lot of the class is common sense, but when it comes to exams, it's really important to read the book. Attendance is not mandatory, but he does in-class activities for points... so go to class

One of my absolute favorite professors I've had at both Altoona and Uni. Park for criminology. He really sparked my interest in criminology freshman year and made everything clear and interesting. He really makes class enjoyable and also includes life experience as to why crime occurs and involves it with the theories learned. 10/10 take him!

Marvasti is such a great professor, def would take again. His lectures are fun and I learned a lot from his class. He's funny and old school (is also easy on the eyes). His tests are simple, but don't just expect an easy A, his notes are very important and he uses the chalk board, so no slides.

Professor Marvasti cares about his students and is easily accessible after class if you need help. His tests are sort of difficult so make sure you study. You don't really need to buy the textbook but you will need to pay attention in class and take notes. He also has extra credit so take advantage of it! Go to class because he does assignments!!!!

Dr. Marvasti is by far one of the best prof. ever. This class is the easiest A as long as you show up. Test are super simple, I easily got an A without spending more than an hour studying before each exam. Lots of extra cred opportunities as well. You will not regret this class.

Amir is an all around great Professor and truly cares about his students. He does a great job preparing students for life after college and wants to help you make the right moves. Soc 005 was honestly common sense with a little studying so the class is easy in general but Amir makes it enjoyable to show up to class.

Amir's class is very intriguing and thought provoking. His class style is mainly discussion based but he will not force you to participate, it does make for a better class though. He is very passionate and a great professor.

Amir Marvasti is a great professor. He's clear with his grading system. The only assignments in the class are 10 pt. weekly quizzes to review your knowledge of the chapter he's covered that week. (You do not need to read the textbook to pass the class, just the chapter slideshow) Overall, the class is very interesting and informative!

Mr. Marvasti isnt just an amazing professor, but an amazing person. You can tell he really cares about the well being of his students. I scheduled for two more of his classes for spring semester because I love him so much! You are lucky if u get the opportunity to have him as a professor.

Marvasti is an easygoing professor, and he knows what he's talking about. This course consists of three exams, three quizzes, and Tophat attendance/questions. The PowerPoints are on Canvas to reference, and I would recommend paying attention during class. He provides study guides and offers exam review sessions the class before!

There was a textbook recommend for this course but I never purchased it because Mr. Marvasti provides everything you need to succeed. He provides study guides, flash cards, and trivia games. The lectures can get a little boring but if you stick it through you will get a good grade.

Dr Marvasti is the most interesting, caring, smart, and organized prof. I have taken so far. weekly quizzes (5 Q online), one 1 page paper, and one final. No homework other than quizzes. attendance is mandatory for 1 point and 2 points for 2 Q's relating to lecture each class. he posts all powerpoints, and always helps regarding missed assignments.

Dr. Marvasti is the best professor for sociology. His class is so easy and a majority of your grade comes from at home quizzes and participation. As long as you go to class and submit your assignments you are guaranteed an A. TopHat is used for basically everything, and you can miss up to 8 classes without loosing points.

Dr. Marvasti is very charismatic and welcoming in every class. Although the lectures can get long with reading off PowerPoint, the material was rather interesting to learn. Did not have to study to get good grades because the quizzes and midterms are common sense.
