Very good teacher. Extremely interested in his students, and their level of success. Calc2 isn't easy, but he taught it very well. Went well out of his way many times to help students do well (reviews, rewards, etc). His English is easy to understand. Highly recommended for a difficult course like calculus.
Professor Savkar is an excellent teacher. I had him for Calc 2 and he was extremely clear on what was to be done and how it should be done. He was willing to spend extra time with you if you needed help, held reviews before every exam, printed out full review packets, and all around was a rewarding professor. He's the best professor for calc 2
HEY! Here are some tips: 1. KNOW your unit circle 2. Pay attention when he says something is very important! Don't get distracted by his t-shirts 3. KNOW your unit circle. He once said, "To pass my exams, it is like sitting on the couch watching a football game" and this is very true.
Such a great professor!! He really wants his students to understand the material. Is very helpful and very accessible both in and out of class. Makes math interesting and understandable!
I used to hate math class, but he really changed that. I would definitely attend lecture, and take notes. He does an excellent job of explaining topics and relating them to everyday life. He has no problem spending extra time on a topic, so don't be afraid to ask questions. His tests aren't too hard, but PRACTICE the problems! Go to exam reviews :)
He was very enthusiastic about his work, but when confronted with questions or challenges, he became very defensive and almost offensive. He took very elementary subjects (what the class is all about) and made them complicated (unnecessary). Otherwise, good connection to students and very available.
Dr. Savkar is quite personable, nice, and actually cares if you understand what is going on. He is extremely fair as to what he expects of you. As long as you attend the lectures and do the homework you'll be fine. The online homework is much harder than the exams. Do the review since he often uses questions directly from them on the tests.
uses the phrase, "having said that..." a lot
Prof. Savkar explains everything very clearly and really wants every student to understand what is going on, don't be afraid to ask questions, tests are easy because he prepares you well and some test questions come right from the review sheets! I definitely recommend taking any math class with him.
At times a bit difficult to understand. More than makes up for this by holding review sessions and handing out packets of problems he goes over, which you should be able to do for exams. Only visit him during office hours, was very temperamental when it was not his OH. Exams are not bad so long as you were able to complete the homework and review.
Great Professor. Trys very hard to help you understand and gives plenty of examples, very reasonable when it comes to work and his choice of test questions. And hes pretty funny too.
He was a pretty good teacher. Easy material, but he was kind of confusing when he was teaching. When he taught, he just did problems from the book. At the final review, he just did 5 or so problems on the board that a few people had questions on. He is a pretty nice guy and he has some good office hours, though.
If you want a good calc TEACHER, he is the one. I loved him, like high school again the way a teacher cares and asks for questions. So happy I got him
Very nice guy and knows what he was talking about, but kind of hard to understand him from time to time. He is also very tempermental, so when he has a bad day you will know and feel his wrath. He also makes you write down EVERYTHING only after he is done writing and explaining it and will yell if he sees anyone copying down...kind of annoying.
my favorite professor. he will explain until you understand everything, and he really he wants to help his students. he has a good sense of humor, and he gives you short breaks during long lectures.
Great prof, will work with you until you understand the material. He gives plenty of opportunity to keep your grade up, and his accent is awesome!
Really hard to understand his accent at first. If you're new to UCONN, get used to the foreign professors..there are a large number of them. There were several occasions where I didn't agree with the way he teaches new material. Little rough around the edges but he truthfully wantes his students to do well. He holds good review sessions.
Excellent professor
His accent is hard to understand at first, but he goes through many examples before the exam. He goes pretty fast so he can leave two lectures for review sessions before the exams, come prepared with questions and he will do it for the whole class. They are extremely helpful. I highly recommend him!
Awesome professor, really knows what he is talking about. Sometimes I don't understand something when I'm looking over it at home and he has a great way of explaining it. Encourages asking questions in class, and if you attend review sessions, he goes over SO MUCH! I strongly encourage taking him for calc!
Great teacher. really cares about his students. for the most part is extremely nice, but has moments when "he was up til 3 in the morning grading" that are bad. heavy accent but realizes it. Go to class for clicker participation. Exams are very easy if you go over what he "has done in the class". Seems like a nice guy.
Great professor! Honestly, math has always been my most challenging subject, but I was required to take Finite Math for my major. Savkar was the best math teacher I ever had! he reviewed each concept until we had them down and he was always available by email and for out of class help! if you have the option choose him!
attend classes and actually do the web assign, re-do class examples
The classes he teaches are difficult but he is a great guy and really wants his students to succeed. I recommend him to anyone and everyone.
He's a very nice guy and cares a lot about how he teaches and his students. That said, he can be a bit unclear sometimes, but the exams aren't overly difficult anyway. Overall I'd recommend him.
one of the best math professors i have ever had. really good at explaining, really wants his students to learn and actually understand the material. HIGHLY recommended.
I used to hate math ever since middle school, but Calc 2 is currently my favorite subject. Savkar is a fantastic professor, he makes calc very applicable and interesting, and he is very interactive and involved with his students' learning. He's so funny too. Love it.
I took 1071 last semester but ended up dropping it because I was failing and the teacher wasn't even a professor, he was a grad student. So I re-took it over the summer with Savkar and it was so much easier and better quality. Savkar will go to any length to make sure you understand the math. He's a real cool guy.
At first I thought he was sorta nuts, but he makes it very clear how much he cares for his students and he will not proceed in lecture unless everyone understands the material. Great guy, one of my favorite professors.
Good guy, definitely cares about you and way better than Conrad. Its kinda hard to understand him at first but you get used to it real fast. There are a lot of things about Calc II that suck but most of that he had no control over. Exams were hard but reasonable and lecture was good. Make sure you have a good TA though, they are key.
Great teacher! He can be a little unclear sometimes during lecture, but he more than makes up for it with how much he goes above and beyond to help his students. He answers lots of questions in class and is the only Calc II prof. to hold review sessions before exams. Grading is fair. I'm terrible at math but managed to get an A.
This professor is just amazing. He keeps the class entertained with moving around and his humor. By far the only professor that could keep me up during class and wake me up. He goes over many things over lecture and he is open to any questions regarding the material and he is more than happy to answer them. It honestly seems that he enjoys teaching
Great calc II professor ever!Really helpful, exams are fairly easy, and teaches awesome! one of my favorite professor!
Really a great teacher. He engages the class during the lecture which makes learning a lot easier. Exams are pretty difficult, but if you just do the Practice Exams and homework online, you should be fine.
Great Professor. Funny guy - makes lectures fun. Calc 2 is hard, yes, but he's a good teacher. Even if you don't do stellar, you'll have fun with him. WebAssign sucked, but so would turning in homework... Helpful review sessions. He has an accent but you get used to it. Overall good class. I survived. Q center is there for you if you need it.
Best professor ever!!!
He was probably the best math teacher I've ever had. I took both Math 1131 and 1132 instructed by Amit Savkar. I got A on both of these classes. In the beginning of the class, he clearly emphasizes that students MUST have the basic foundation skills (algebra and trig) in order to do well in Calculus. TAKE HIS CLASS; YOU'LL LEARN A LOT FROM HIM.
I concur with the comment below mine; he warned to his students that they will struggling in Calculus class if they don't have the fundamental algebra skills. The class was moderately hard, but I managed to get an A. I strongly recommend taking this class.
One of the few professors I've had who legitimately enjoys teaching. Exams (especially the final) were difficult, but he offered review packets that really helped you prepare. Homework & online quizzes are due twice a week, & weekly quizzes given by the TA. I took Calc I & II with him and did well in both. Very highly recommend his class.
Pretty good professor. I had the 8am lecture, so learning was tough then. Can be a bit hostile at times like before exams when he's stressed and even yelled at our class once for cheating on homeworks. :o Overall though, he has good intentions and wants his students to do well. Be prepared to work hard as it's a tough class!
Proffesor Savkar was a great teacher. He was very clear in class, and provided many things for students to succeed, as long as you put the effort in. I put in good amount of effort and I got an A. He makes test material very and is easy to follow. He gives you a review sheet, and if you can do all of it, you are guaranteed at least a B. Take it!
Amit is by far the best math teacheri have had my entire life, possibly even the best teacher for any subject. He is very clear in how to solve problems and rearrange equations. I came into the class with no prior pre-calculus experience, he taught me the unit circle and trig functions in 15 minutes, and I completely understood them in that time.
Before I transfer to BC next semester, I really want to spend some time addressing some positive aspects about Amit Savkar. He really prepared students for weekly quizzes, Exams, etc. Definitely take his class; you'll learn a lot.
He's a smart guy who knows what he is talking about. However, when I asked him questions after class, he seemed kinda impatient and annoyed.
I once hated math and Professor Savkar made me love it. He explains everything step by step and will slow down to your pace. Sometimes he also may seem to lack patience, but that's only if you go to him the week before final exam with a 56 test average and ask for help.
Savkar is awesome. Class was pretty tough itself, but Savkar is such an easy going, funny guy you'll feel totally comfortable asking him questions, even in a lecture of 300 kids. I also went to office hours a lot, and it helped a ton. He really does care about his students, so show him you're putting in an effort because it'll pay off.
He's really nice and very helpful. He is always willing to slow down the pace and explain things one step at a time which is really nice. Made a really difficult subject more enjoyable.
fantastic professor. goes out of his way to make sure students understand every aspect of a topic. really loves when students ask 'why' and is passionate about his work. he's personable and gets a few laughs out of the class each day. the class itself is difficult and online homework can be a pain at first but overall just a great guy.
Just easy going and laid back. His exams are more than fair and the class is pretty easy. His downfall is he can be really moody sometimes but it's an easy class. You get exactly what you put into it.
Excellent professor. A little hard to understand sometimes, but he is always looking to answer questions. Exams are difficult but he prepares you well for them if you attend the lectures.
Savkar is one of those professors who genuinely cares about his students. He gets upset when students do poorly. I did bad on an exam and went to talk to him, and he was more upset about my grade than I was. Not the best lecturer, but passionate about math and wants his students to do well. Awesome guy overall.
Very bad at explaining things and seems to almost purposely not answer peoples quesions or makes them feel stupid when they ask. Learn all information from discussions. Attendence to lectures isn't necessary since he barely makes sense and doesn't prepare you well for exams. Most learning is indeendent or from TAs
Fantastic
Savkar is probably one of the better math professors. He tries to be very helpful and wants students to ask a lot of questions. He can be kind of moody sometimes and some of his teaching isn't always super clear.
Fantastic. Very helpful and willing to answer questions. Made calc 2 relatively easy to understand. Sometimes tries to do too much and gets confusing, but those are the questions that are extremely difficult that do not show up on the exam. Takes a few days to get used to his accent. Great professor.
He teaches well and wants to help, wants his students to succeed. Just pay attention and do the practice tests and you'll be fine.
good professor, hard to fall asleep in his class, uses hands-on teaching methods
Good teacher, people often confuse him being mean, with him wanting his students to do well. He makes the 1132 tests, so he knows what to teach in class. I'd recommend him over any other Calc 2 prof.
Literally the best professor I've ever had. Had him in Calc 1131 and requested him again for calc 1132. I hated math before I had him as a teacher but I look forward to going to his lectures. Cares about students doing well more than anything. Genuinely sad I can't take any more classes with him.
Really great professor. I had him for Calc 1131, and requested him again for 1132. He is very good at what he does, and he has a very high interest in his students. He tries to make sure that each and every person understands that material before moving on, and he stresses what is important. Highly recommended.
He can be a little intimidating because he sometimes gets angry in class. He especially wants students to know their algebra, do their homework, come prepared, and review his notes in between classes. He sometimes explains things in a way that is clear and at other times can be a little confusing, but overall is very helpful in and out of class.
Very helpful, accent was hard for the first week but easy to get use to. Not easy class, but actually teaches you math. Very fair and understanding teacher. You have a problem go and talk to him, he will help you! Recommend (plus he makes calc II tests)
Definitely one of the best professors i've had at uconn. He really cares about his students to the point where he extends office hours for the entire day before a test. calc 2 is a hard class, but i highly doubt any other teacher could make it easier. I strongly recommend him for any class
This class has a lot of difficult subject material but I really feel that this professor does a good job at teaching it. He is extremely helpful in office hours and wants students to do well. He has a good upbeat personality that helps make class more enjoyable than expected.
I find calc to be difficult, but Savkar does a really great job making things clear and understandable. He posts the notes online and is always willing to help out his students. He can be a little intimidating, but he really just wants you to do well. Do the homework, go to lecture, and you can do well! Really!
He seems like a cool guy, but everything I learned in this class, I learned from my TA in the discussion section. I stopped going to class halfway through the semester because Savkar would waste the first half hour of every class yelling at students for not understanding things or behaving badly (playing with cell phones, etc). Still got an A.
Calculus simply never made any sense to me and I don't think it ever will. That being said Savkar made the whole experience somewhat more bearable, he truly wants his students to succeed and he does his utmost best to present the material in a way this his class will understand. My only complaint is that he moves through material very quickly.
Professor Savkar seems like an intimidating person, but in reality he wants to see his students do well. Going in for help during office hours, attending lecture, and taking advantage of the exam reviews will ensure you never get lower than a B on any exam. Exams are a little tricky, but not if you go to lecture and pick up on hints he gives.
Amit is brilliant, there is no doubt about it, but he is expecting all the students to also be geniuses. Because of that, he is outrageously hard and doesn't spend much time explaining things
Calc 2 is a very hard class but he helps to make it easier. It's still very difficult and he tends to spend half the class yelling at you. Otherwise not a bad guy.
Dr. Savkar is very clear and cares deeply about the understanding his students have of the subject. He may seem intimidating but really his unique sense of humor may be misinterpreted. If you want to do well in Calculus and you go to UConn, this guy should be your number one choice. And know your algebra!!!
Savkar is such a great professor. Even though Calculus 2 is pretty difficult, he definitely pushed me to do better in the class. He may seem intimidating, but he really is a nice guy. He just wants his students to reach their potential. Go to review sessions and make sure to do practice exams! One of my favorite professors at UConn!
Savkar is a teacher who knows how to keep people frustrated. Even though the class was online, you think he would be prepared and make things as clear as possible but in reality he made many mistakes and gave homework on material that wasn't taught. UConn's math dept needs some decent teachers who know how to teach without emphasizing frustration.
The man is awesome. Makes calculus as easy as its gonna get. Cares about his students and keeps you interested
His videos are long and boring, but occasionally helpful. He yelled at students and TA's a lot right before the exam and it created a stressful enviroment
Amit Savkar is the most passionate math professor I have ever met. He makes any level as Math as easy as he possibly can. He assigns extra work occassionally, but it helps you better understand and leads to better exam grades. If I could have him every semester, I would in a heartbeat.
He is pretty easy to understand. Gets mad easily if you don't know the answer, however he teaches very well and if you do all the assignments and homework you will do fine in the class.
Dr. Savkar is very enthusiastic and gives entertaining lectures. He truly cares about his students, and he loves being asked questions. He does have an accent but it is easily understandable. Very nice guy with a great sense of humor. Only complaint is that he often spends too much time at the start of class discussing various issues and events.
Good guy, 'Nough said.
Savkar is a GREAT professor! took his online class with discussion once a week. He is very straight forward, and his tests have no surprises. if you pay attention and do your work there is no reason why you should get a bad grade! Good professor, interesting class.
This class with Savkar was very easy. Did not even buy the "required" text and ended up with an A for the semester. I had 2 discussions and 2 videos to watch each week, with 2-3 online homeworks to complete. Overall, easy class, easy concepts, great teacher.
I found this online class to be frustrating - providing insufficient information and material in order to complete the homework assignments. The concepts were explained quickly, not thoroughly, and with many mistakes. Many concepts were neglected and supposed to be "elaborated on in discussion", but this does not happen unless your TA is very good.
Like many others I took this class in high school. Therefore, it was a general refresher by taking this class. Amit was very lively at 8 am but cares about his students very much always solving individual problems, most often with technical problems. He will often rant about things other than the material. Don't need book, just need WebAssign.
Overall quite easy.
I had Dr. Savkar as both my Calculus 1 and my Calculus 2 professor, and both semesters I greatly enjoyed taking his class. He truly cares about his students succeeding, and even in a large lecture hall he takes the time to answer individual questions. He is always energetic in class, and he is funny sometimes so class is hardly even dull.
He is one of the rare professors that really cares about his student's success. He and his TAs are a fantastic resource and everything was made very clear. Exams are very fair. Online homework can be tedious but it's a good grade booster.
really nice guy. truly care about students' success
Best professor at UConn (and I got a C for final grade). Gives great example and help. Doesn't skip over steps. You will definitely learn Calculus as long as you show up to class. Would take any class he has to offer, he's that good. Only negative for this course is some test questions come from left field. Expect one or two like that.
Savkar is a legend. I had his class at 8am and he somehow manages to keep everyone in good spirits. Good professor, particularly if you're a visual learner because he loves to explain things by drawing graphs. Definitely don't hesitate to go to his office hours if you have a question.
A little eccentric, but good at doing examples and really cares about students. Tests were tough, but there was not too much work.
Prof. Savkar is awesome! He really makes sure that the students understand the material and goes over everything clearly. He does not give extra credit, but his grading is very fair. If you did not do so well on an exam, Savkar dedicates time just to help students with extra office hours. His review sessions were so helpful for the exams too!
The first 90% of the semester was great and he was an awesome professor. The tests were reasonable (2 mid terms) and he was very lenient at the end to give more credit for webassign hw and attendance. However, immediately after evaluations, he became a major hard ass. The final was insanely difficult in comparison. I was disappointed at the end.
Took AP Calc senior year of high school with an A all year and figured I would be all set. Not even close. Homework and quizzes were so easy and examples done in lecture were also easy, and then come the exams, which were a 1000 times harder than what he taught. Had a 100 average in the class, knew all the material, got a D on the first midterm...
The most ridiculous professor I've ever met. Neglecting his confusing speaking, I can't stand his fussy teaching style. He doesn't tolerate anything he doesn't like. If the class is kinda annoying, he would get angry and not teach anything, or even leave (yes he would). It's a calc 2 class! He made it like a professional course.
He was nice. I personally had trouble following, but that is because I am bad at math.
Hard subject -clear what is on the exams - explains topics very clearly and really wants everyone to understand the concepts - weekly quizzes that are relatively easy - two web assigns per week - as long as you study, you should do fine
A lot of people might disagree, but I actually really enjoyed Amit's class. I won't lie, he is very strict and can seem mean. But at the end of the day he really wants you to learn. You have to have a thick skin if you want to talk to him.
Calculus II is a hard course overall, and you must put in the time to see the results in this class. Savkar does a great job during lecture of hitting the main points of the sections that has to get covered and also puts up supplemental videos and notes online which are good review for quizzes and tests. However, he has a very standoffish attitude.
He has an accent but it NEVER got in the way of my understanding. He was very straightforward. Homework is online and there will be lots of it. I definitely think he is one of the best professors for this course. Uses iclickers to count towards participation.
He's a great professor! I would highly recommend taking him for any math courses that he is teaching. I have him for calc 1 (1131Q) this semester and picked him for calc 2 next semester as well. He is very clear in his explanations and has useful powerpoints that he posts online. The exam questions are more than fair.
Savkar will tell you how to do it based on the exact definition of what you're working on. This didn't work for me so I went to lecture for Cavanaugh which really helped me out. He is intimidating and belittles you if you answer his questions somewhat wrong. Most guys like him but he was too intimidating for me.
I could say a lot about this teacher, as he was the first math teacher to make me really want to aspire for more. Although he can be a bit standoffish, and a little harsh when you admit you don't understand something (or that you used a ti89 to check your definite integral). He is passionate, but genuinely cares that in the end you understand it.
Hands down one of the best professors you will ever have. He can seem kind of standoffish during his lectures, however never take anything he says to heart. He is tough on his students because he truly cares about their success. Let me give you an incite of how to get an A in this class...3 words: KNOW YOUR ALGEBRA!!
I personally did not find office hours helpful. The pace is very fast. I felt like I was being judged for being confused or not understanding material. You should have tough skin if you want to take this course. Be prepared!
Very smart and helpful prof. You'll get used to his accent. The subject is hard but if you put the work in and listen to him you'll be fine.
The class goes smoothly and everything gets explained clearly. If you don't understand some method, his office hours are plenty and explaining mathematical problems is his second nature.
I loved this professor so much! I was a little bit nervous that his accent would end up confusing me, but you get used to it very quickly! He explains things very easily and gives great examples. He's really funny and wants everyone to do well! He had the best exam grades out of all of the Calc 1 professors so I highly recommend him!
One of the few professors that strongly cares about your success. He is just as amazing of a teacher as he is a professor. I would strongly recommend him. Beware as he does make his classes challenging but in no way does he try to "weed" people out.
The material Savkar taught was straightforward. As long as you take notes in class and do the online homework and quizzes and prepare for the tests, you should do well. Savkar makes it clear to his students that he wants to do everything he can to allow them to succeed. He makes sure you are well prepared for exams.
Good professor, very intelligent. Occasionally has issues helping the average class member understand, but nevertheless tries to make sure everyone understands. He takes pride in his students performances.
Amit taught Calc2 to me freshman year. At first his accent was hard to get by, but he provides you with so many resources. Exams are not too bad if you did the homeworks. Nevertheless, this was the lowest grade I received in college, and my class size cut in half by the end of the year.
One of the best calc professors I have ever had. He made the material make sense even after I took a break from mathematics classes. When I had a personal problem, he was very caring and helped me construct a new schedule so I could still succeed and learn. I have almost never understood math more clearly. Lots of feedback. Discussion important.
Amit Savkar was one if the best professors I have ever had. He really cares about the students and wants them to succeed. GO TO OFFICE hours, it will pay off.
He's one of the best professors that I've had. I had him for calc 2 my freshman year and it was a massive lecture, but he still did everything in his power to help kids understand and always encouraged people to go to his office hours when they didn't understand. If you actually need to know how to do calculus, I'd recommend taking a class with him
Amit really cares about his students success in and out of the classroom. I was in his office everyday and sometimes didn't understand simple concepts but he worked with me to make sure I left his office getting all of my questions answered, the best professor I have ever had at UConn. If his name comes up on any class list take the class with him!
Amit's a pretty solid professor. He really cares about the success of all his students and he is always willing to help. His style of teaching wasn't the best for me, however. He's pretty intense and kind of harsh to people who are struggling. It's only because he cares and expects a lot from you though.
Savkar is a wonderful professor who really cares about his students. He is approachable in and out of class and explains things well. Accent is rough but you'll get used to it. Great guy!
Dr. Savkar is a fabulous educator and truely works to ensure your success. He has a delightful sense of humor and is engaging in lecture. He is always willing to help his student in and out of class. He is very understanding and very knowledgeable in his field. Truely a great professor and human being, I was honored to take his class. 1 of the BEST
Hands-down the best math professor I've ever had. I struggled with calculus in high school but Savkar made me really understand it. Bases his office hours around his students and will not let you leave without making sure you understand the material. Gave me points back on exams when the TAs wouldn't. Take calc with him! Go to class for iClicker.
this is a terrible guy in uconn i have ever seen. he seldom help students study and homework. and he seldom reply our e-mail as well. also, he shows poor patient to international students although he has serious accent. when we talk to him face to face, i cant even hear what is he talking about. i actually dont know how can he get high score there.
Took calc in HS so the online class wasn't an issue. If you are taking calc for the first time and you're not an eagle in math take the course in person. If you take in online tho you can get help from the TAs or the professor himself.
Savkar is a great professor; however, an online math class in general comes with its issues. I would've struggled if I hadn't already taken AP calc in high school, so I'd recommend taking this class with an in-person lecture if you don't have any prior knowledge. Go to office hours for help on the worksheets! They're graded for accuracy.
You get so much homework in this class; I spent almost all of my time studying for this class and went to office hours every week. Amit is great at teaching and he goes really in depth, but the material he gives us for homework does not exactly reflect the exams. Be sure to go to TA office hours if you're struggling; they help alot.
hate this dude. literally has a chart that goes into detail explaining that since calc 1 and 2 are 4 credit courses, they basically should become your life. Has no regard for students taking other classes, a complete jerk, and literally expects you to sacrifice your life to calc. Calc is hard as it is,mcq exams and absurd amnt of work make it worse
My friend and I took online calc together and we were NOT a fan of him. His lecture videos made no sense, so we had to go to Khan Academy videos to actually be able to understand the week's lesson and do the assignments. A worksheet and webassigns due every week. He is very mean during tests, and will fail you if he SUSPECTS you're cheating.
If you go to ask for help, he does a great job explaining it so it is easy to understand. Make sure to go in there understanding algebra, cuz he will wrack on you about it. If you make careless mistakes like I do, the test can make or break you since there is only 15 questions on them. There is other stuff to balance out your grade tho.
Didn't take Calc in HS and ended up taking math 1131 online. It's not ridiculously hard, but definitely requires a lot of attention. Has a pretty large workload with usually 2 webassign WS per unit and one weekly worksheet of everything. If you struggle at all it is pretty essential to go to the TA or Q center, they saved my life a lot.
Professor Savkar is a great guy, and is very helpful to students. He genuinely cares about everyone's success. That doesn't change the fact that online math is a terrible choice anyways. Unless you've taken calc in highschool or are really good at time management, I would not take an online math class. Lectures are long and you need to plan it out.
Went to him for help and never went back to him again because of how rude and patronizing he was. The workload is just insane honestly. I personally found the exams to be difficult because our webassign homework and worksheets were not reflective of what to expect on the exams. Would not recommend his class.
Don't take it online, its a terrible way to learn, the Q-Center taught me calc not Amit. Really helpful during review sessions and office hours, but so hard reach otherwise. Unintentionally very condescending. Gives no partial credit on exams, which are MC, so either you solve every question PERFECTLY or you just fail. Take calc anywhere but UConn.
Online is not great but you do not have to go to class. Exams are at 9pm.
Could not be a worse professor for a 1 credit class. Gives too much work for 1 credit and expects the world from us. If you don't deliver 100% what he wants he belittles you in front of the entire class. He's completely disorganized and I honestly have not had a worse professor for any class - and it's a simple UNIV class! Worst part of every week!
Amit is a horrible lecturer. If you take calc online you for sure can do well, but use Professor Leonard on youtube or someone who actually explains the concepts. Amit just throws you equations and doesn't explain the calculus at all. He gives a lot of work, but so does every calc professor. Exams suck and are not similar to classwork/practice test
Assigns a lot of work. Does not give a clear criteria and changes standards frequently. Plays favorites and tends to put students down. Not a very welcoming class enviornment.
Very disrespectful towards students, has gone as low as calling them names in front of the entire class. Expects a lot of work for a one credit course, grades off of how much he favors the student. Assignments were fun, just not with him teaching.
worst summer course by far. Oral exams are unfair, the TA looks at your most recent exam and takes a question from it and makes you explain how to get the right answer, in both of my oral exams the TA made me explain questions that I got wrong which is ridiculous, because how am I supposed to explain something I got wrong. This class is a joke.
I took this class for the Innovation Learning Community. The professor was very hard to reach outside of class. Oftentimes he would not respond to emails or be at his office. There was also a lot of work assigned (some even last minute) that did not make sense for a one credit class.
Honestly this class isn't too hard if you're actually into math. I hate math and it's not TERRIBLE. Savkar pre records his lectures and does a good job of explaining the content. There are quizzes and packet WS due every week but they're not bad. Savkar is lowkey intimidating and passive aggressive but not the worst I've seen. Seems like a nice guy
Assigned a lot of work for a one credit class. It didn't even seem to relate to innovation half the time. He would always get mad if we didn't meet with him but he wouldn't respond to emails trying to set up meetings. Seems to have a lot of passion, but just doesn't use it to inspire students.
I will say that sometimes he can be funny and helpful but it doesn't balance out for how mean he strict he was most of the time. He gave us so much to do and half the time it didn't even make sense. He would also get mad at us for doing things that weren't even our fault. He really didn't teach this class well.
He did seem to be interested in the students, which was cool. He could be funny at times yet other times he would switch and be mean out of nowhere and make us feel bad. Never listened to any feedback we gave him. Gave us tons of assignments and had really weird rubrics and requirements for projects. Just participate and try to do your best.
Teaches the concepts very well and gives a good amount of homework. About 2/3 WebAssigns, 1 worksheet (often very time consuming) and quiz (2-4 questions testing previous weeks material) every week. If you do all your work then you are set up for success. 3 Exams taken on Webex (You don't need to turn on your mic or Webcam!)
Prof. Savkar's lectures are very easy to follow and understand, although they were online. He is also always willing to help you if you go to his office hours or review sessions before exams which was very helpful. Can be passive aggressive but I thought it was pretty funny.
Calc is already a hard course but this professor does not make it better. For online classes, he records himself and then assigns WebAssign, worksheets, and tests weekly. It's a lot of work and if you ever need to email him you have to include the TA who is grading your work. The TAs give amazing feedback, but the professor rarely ever replies.
This was the hardest class I've ever had to take, and this professor did nothing to help. He assigns an absurd amount of homework every week along with frequent tests that are nothing like the material taught in lecture. The lectures themselves are very hard to follow and aren't very helpful when trying to actually learn the course material.
Innovation House floor was fun, but he made class miserable and stressful. He would be very inconsistent with how he acted and how he graded. Don't know if I want to return to the LC because of him.
Amit is a difficult professor not by his own fault. Unless you've taken calculus in high school it will be a difficult class. I took him in the summer and that's probably the only reason I did as well as I did. having said that, it is definitely easy to do well and he gives you plenty of opportunities to succeed. Standerd UConn calc class, 6/10
Has a speedy aggressive style to his lectures. Often has students with questions and instead of slowly going over the problems he re explains vaguely and mentions to the students to take advantage of his office hours which is always inconvenient for some people.
Doesn't help when you reach out, never replies to emails. Don't recommend taking him as a professor if you struggle with math. Tests are not like study guides.
He encourages questions earlier on - and then actually gets frustrated/mad at you after 2-3 questions from the class. His teaching style is really vague. Plus he assigns 2 webassigns a week + a really time consuming worksheet. Terrible teacher overall. The internet was my saving grace.
Professor Savkars online lectures honestly substitute very well for the textbook. He explains the concepts very well and provides example problems that reinforce understanding. Calculus 1 requires a decent amount of work though, so make sure you have the time to work on it in your schedule, especially if youve never taken a calculus class before.
A good TA for this class actually matters because Professor is not great at teaching the subjects. His class is structured where you watch lecture videos, then do practices problems virtually during your "lecture" portion. He does ask everyone if they need help on specific things and wants to make sure you are learning. Calc is just hard as it is.
the lectures were online and the discussion sections were taught by a TA. the TA you get matters because thats when you can ask questions. homework was on WebAssign. i never logged into the lectures and still passed, but I took calc in high school. the exams are multiple choice, and theres 4 skills quizzes you need to pass but there's retakes.
Dr. Savkar is one of the best professors for math, especially calculus. His lectures are clearly taught and he goes over MANY examples to prepare for exams. He also hosts exam review sessions to help students and is very accessible outside of class. He is also funny and respects his students. Homework is easy and as long as you study, you will pass
One of the worst professor I ever had. Went to his office hours and man was angry. had attitude. I'm surprised he has 3.7 here maybe he was having bad day but he do get angry if say something he don't agree with or ask to many question. last thing take this class on your own risk.
During the lectures, the professor went over many examples for the exams but consistently got fed up if students didn't understand. There is online homework every week (can be slightly infuriating to complete) and a weekly packet that the TA's do a very good job of helping complete. The four exams given and the skills quizzes aren't too bad.
He is an amazing teacher, he really goes out of his way to give what his students need. This includes reviews on weekends.
I personally had a great experience in his Math 1131Q class. I believe that he explained majority of the topics well and I truly believed that he wanted all of us to succeed. He will go out of his way to help better explain anything so long as you advocate for yourself. I will say that I took AP Calc in high school, so that helped a lot as well.
I have never had issues throughout high school with math. I spend hours every week and went to all Q center hours and office hours but do not bother. This man was constantly in a horrible mood and couldn't care less about his students. When asking questions in class he simply gets angry and compares his intelligence to his students.
Truly not enough good words for Professor Savkar. Can seem passive aggressive, but you'll understand he is the MOST caring professor, genuinely cares about your success. Made Calc easy to understand; if you can, DEF go to his C3 session, extended office hour, and exam reviews. Grading is very distributed, so one bad test won't be end of the world.
Overall a good professor, just unfortunate that the lecture was at 8am so I did not go after september. I will say, it was annoying that he chose to NOT respond to the SI that the other calc professors have, as I learned most of the material through her slides. He has a video for each section that you are learning which were a good resource.
Comes off initially as a nice enough person but becomes actively antagonistic and yells when the class doesn't do exactly what he wants. Very discouraging. Homework only sometimes aligned with in-class discussion (also silently assigned double homework over thanksgiving without any warning). Get ready to teach yourself. Avoid if possible.
He is the most caring professor I have ever had, great at teaching!
found his class to be terrible, precalc isn't hard but he made it hard. I should have dropped it. every person i spoke to in that class really didn't like him or his teaching. I attended every lecture and took notes on his class, though his lectures just made me confused. the students who did best in that class didn't attend his lectures.
I was a bit hesitant to take his course over the summer due to his reviews, but after taking the course, I am extremely glad I took it with him. He is extremely understanding during a summer course, and offered many types of extra help that was easily accessible. He also offered a lot of extra credit and opportunities to improve.
One of the best teachers I've had so far. Really obvious he wants people to understand and doesn't make you feel dumb for asking questions. He has weekly math help meetings and brings coffee and cookies.
You should try another professor; he doesn't explain the material well.
Lectures don't feel heavy and the class is easy to follow, though they're all at 8am. He reviews material thoroughly and is very available after class. Exams are based directly on what he goes over, he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and actually listens to student feedback.
Super good lectures! Had at 8am which sucked, but he would regularly cheer up the class to be ready for the morning. Didn't care much for attendance as far as I know, but attendance DOES help. He regularly checks in with the class to see where we're feeling good or bad, and will go over a problem five times if you need it. 11/10, would take again.
DONT TAKE WITH THIS PROFESSOR
i did not have him as a professor but went to him for an SI session and in the Q center. SOOOO HELPFUL!!!! actually cares and walks through problems as many times as needed. He encourages you to ask questions and will explain in detail and in different ways untill you fully understand.
Although I enjoyed the Professor outside of class, I felt very uncomfortable with his behavior at times in terms of yelling at students and creating an uncomfortable / scary environment in the classroom. I truly believe he could use a kinder approach when speaking to students... Especially ones who are genuinely trying their best!
Nice guy. Quizzes are really easy. If you need help, he will always be there for you. Also funny.
Savkar cares for his students. He drops a lot of good knowledge in C-Cubed(Coffee, Cookies, and Calculus). Exams + quizzes are usually straightforward examples of concepts u just learned in class. That being said, if you have a question in class, ask him outside of class. I feel like some of his answers to questions in class are passive-aggressive.
I'm not a math person, but I thought Savkar did a great job teaching the class. There's weekly quizzes so pick your discussion time wisely. Savkar cares a lot about his students and wants everyone to succeed. Go to class and go to office hours if you need extra help. Super nice professor and I recommend if you're intimidated by the class.
