Very tough class, but the professor is good
Its a calculus class, it's supposed to be tough. Three exams, one final and weekly homeworks and quizzes. Very smart guy and accommodating of any issues you have in class.
Very clear and organized lecturer. Nice and helpful. Midterms & finals are taken with other 1131 sessions. The lectures are pretty easy but the midterms can be challenging because they're only 50 min. You'll be fine if you go to Amit's lectures and attend recitations.
He is probably the most dedicated math prof at OSU. He is very easy to approach and made a hard class like Math 1172 doable. He is very knowledgeable and interested in what he does. Honestly he helped me change the way I look at math.
Amit is one of the best math professors I have ever had, always willing to help and arrange office hours to help you, it was 1172 so it is NOT an easy class by any means but his teaching is wonderful and he is a great guy.
Great professor, he is always willing to meet with you and help. Also if you go to him with your midterms he'll walk you through them and might even give you points back! Make sure you get to know him, he is an amazing guy as well
This guy is absolutely amazing. I wasn't even in his class, but Vutha subbed in once and I loved him so I attended his office hours. He treated me like a son. He spent hours upon hours tutoring me before every exam. One night, he opened up the math building and sat with us from 9PM-5AM to study for an exam. Quality human being.
Personally went out of his way to offer me an extra study session when he saw my second midterm grade take a dip.
Homework due online and a quiz every week. He has an accent but its not that bad to understand. The material is easy but sometimes he can make it confusing. He is very nice and helpful if you go to him one on one though. Tests are tough, make sure you do the practice midterms. I skipped lecture a lot but I took the class in high school so...
Prof Vutha is the reason I did well in this class. He was always available to meet if you sent him an e-mail, even outside of his regular office hours. His exam reviews were thorough and clear, and he was genuinely interested in helping us understand the material. I remember before the final he held an open study session that went until 2am.
Super great class. Professor Vutha lays it all out and makes its super easy to follow with tons of examples and a step by step procedure. He really cuts the fat out of teaching and gets to the point. He's not a very personable person, but he doesn't really need to be for this class. Tough because I don't like math, but a very good class to take
He is a Very helpful teacher. If you ask, he is aways willing to help you even on a Sunday afternoon. Gives clear , coherent and logic lectures.
No complaints here. Great professor and extremely nice guy who conveys information clearly to students.
I had him for recitation, and I could see how he would definitely be a better lecture prof. He seems pretty cool and has a dry sense of humor that makes him relatable, but can come across as pretty rude and condescending when you ask a question during class. I would leave recitation more confused than when i came bc his teaching can be confusing.
For MATH1148, he is a great and organized professor. Guided notes are provided and he clearly moves through at a good pace. Don't miss lecture, quizzes are given every week, homework is due every week, and final exam is cumulative. He's a great professor and wants to help his students outside of class-time. Also he has the best dry humor ever.
It's college calc, so it won't be easy, but Amit is willing to move deadlines and is always available for office hours or at the very least an e-mail. He was funny and understanding and did a good job of explaining everything. Only reason I struggled was a poor TA. Plus he fought for us to have calculators on the exams, so.
Dr. Vutha was hands down the best math professor I've ever had. He is always willing to provide extra help on his own time. He truly wants the best for his students.
Vutha is such an amazing professor and got me through so much my first semester at OSU. He will spend a lot of time working with you outside of the classroom and will bend over backwards to make sure that you really understand the material. His class is pretty straight forward. Do the homework and show up to lecture! 12/10 would recommend this man!
I have never really used office hours, but between my second and third midterm I did not go to a single lecture, so right before the third midterm, I attended office hours. Vutha went above and beyond to make sure I understood the material and does this for all his students. The content is very easy, and the tests are even easier.
He is a great person. One of my favorite teachers ever.
Amit is so sweet and inspirational. He believes greatly in his students and wants them to do well; he is always readily available to help. Clearly very knowledgeable about the course material. 10/10 recommend.
This was the first calculus class that I had ever taken so I was worried. However, Dr. Vutha made the work as easy as possible. He cares about his students and really wants everyone to succeed. He keeps lectures interesting with some light humor, he has his funny moments. I would recommend Dr. Vutha to anybody, he is a great professor.
Great professor for calculus.
It's really nice for me to have Professor Vutha for Calc 3. You all know that this course won't be easy. However, Dr. Vutha makes it relatively easier. Great lecturer with plenty of patience in explaining everything you wondered. I took the online version of this course. He's course definitely stands out among all the other online courses.
So glad I had Vutha after I failed this course the previous semester. He explains the material very well, was easily accessible outside of lectures, and he truly cares about his students. Homeworks do include some harder questions that you won't be tested on.
Dr. Vutha is, by far, the best math professor I have EVER had. He explains things very well and thoroughly, he is easily available outside of class to answer any questions, and he's funny, so it makes learning calculus bearable. Also, dare I say, kinda fun? If you are taking calc for the first time ever, DEFINITELY take it with Dr. Vutha!
Dr. Vutha is a fantastic professor and he really helps you learn the material. In lecture he keeps the content interesting with some random facts/interesting one liners, and you can tell he genuinely cares about his students. Amit is a sweetheart as a person, and the course is the same content/less rigorous than the MATH 1151 course I've been told.
Professor Vutha is the best math teacher I've ever had in my life. He legitimitaly cares about students understanding the material and he holds review sessions where you can ask about anything and he explains it in full detail until you understand. I struggled with calculus in high school but now calc is one of my favorite subjects!
Amit was a great guy. His lectures were extremely well done with plenty of example problems. He held a few (optional) review lectures outside of class time. More over for Calc 1156 using the online/MyLab resources really helped. Overall really nice guy who makes sure you understand the material one way or another :) 10/10 would take again!!
Very funny professor. He is very knowledgable and the notes he makes are very aesthetic. The notes themselves make you want to be good at calculus. The extra revision sessions are a great asset. Never leaves you hanging. Answers all questions in lectures even if youre interrupting the flow
Because classes moved online the math dep. was very strict about time limits for quizzes and tests which heavily affected my grade. That being said, Dr. Vutha was amazing and did everything he could to make this semester easier. The notes he makes for his lectures are absolutely incredible and he is very funny. He replies fast and willingto help.
Absolutely amazing professor. You can tell he genuinely cares a lot about the success of his students; he holds many review sessions and is always open to help even in the middle of a lecture. His lectures are very easy to understand and actually quite interesting. He is an amazing person and teacher... 10/10 would recommend taking his class!
Dr. Vutha is by far my favorite professor ever. He honestly cares about each and every student and wants them to succeed. The class is difficult due to the math department. A weekly quiz, homework, and five exams made up the course. Dr. Vutha does everything he can to prepare you for exams. We need more teachers like him. Take this course with him.
Amit is an amazing professor and you can tell he wants his students to be successful. He knows what he's talking about and his lectures are very helpful so I recommend attending as many as you can.
Dr. Vutha is one of the best professors at OSU. He holds many review sessions outside of class and makes sure you are ready for every single weekly quiz and exam (every 3 weeks). Class is weighted 70% on the exams so be sure to do well. Final exam was tough but all other exams were quite easy.
This was my first semester at OSU, and I'm extremely confident that this will be the best professor I will ever have. He is very caring and wants his students to succeed. He has weekend review sessions before midterms, and review sessions before quizzes. You won't be left hanging if you put in effort. He's a GREAT professor and an amazing person!
Dr. Vutha is not only able to make a very difficult subject like calculus digestible, he will take his time to make sure every student understands what he is demonstrating. I took this course during COVID and every week, multiple times a week, Dr. Vutha would run a study session for any student to attend. He is very king and genuine.
Dr. Vutha is a professor that genuinely cares about each and every one of his students, and wants everyone to succeed. His lectures are very easy to understand, and he is a very clever and witty person. I would absolutely recommend him for this class.
Dr. Vutha has been one of the best professors I have ever had. The class is tough but Dr. Vutha does everything in his power to help you through it. He is very funny and personable. He holds review sessions before every quiz and exam and he is willing to meet with you anytime about any questions you have and explain them to you. Awesome dude!
He was a very nice professor always ready to help his students. He genuinely cared about the well being of the students during this hard time and he always tried his best to simplify things down for students. Office hours are very helpful attend them.
Great lecturer and easy to follow notes. Simplifies complex material to make it easier to understand.
The best professor I will probably ever have. I personally had to change to P/NP, but if you do your work on and over time, you shouldn't have to. The class is hard, but Vutha makes it really easy to understand and he's very open and easy to access. He has reviews before every quiz and exam and is always willing to answer every question. Test heavy
Amit has got to be my favorite professor thus far. He is incredibly caring and takes time to help each of his students. He goes above and beyond by offering extra homework or problems and even holding multiple review sessions. He truly cares that his students succeed. Explains difficult concepts very easily too.
Dr. Vutha is an amazing professor. He is very accessible outside lectures and genuinely cares about your success. Do the homework, utilize office hours to ask questions, and the class will go well, thanks to Dr. Vutha.
Registered for calc expecting to end up with a B. The exceptional Dr. Vutha is the reason I have an A, a newfound interest in math, and much-developed skills. He breaks down the most complicated concepts, keeps you engaged, & gives you countless opportunities to improve. Abundant review sessions. Will tailor his help to your needs if you reach out.
Professor Vutha makes math quite easy. His lectures keep you engaged and he devotes extra time on the weekends for review sessions where you can ask him to cover the more difficult concepts. By far the best math professor I've ever had. The math department needs to promote him.
Best professor at Ohio State. If you ever need extra help, Amit is always willing to help. The course material is difficult, but he always does his best to help. He gives an ample amount of practice problems and review sessions. Follow his practice problems and the tests will be manageable, but calculus, regardless, is hard.
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Vutha! He is humorous, always willing to meet with students, has great & incredibly helpful lectures, and allows for a tough subject like Calc to be easily understood. He is the best prof I have ever had at OSU, and if you get him- count your blessings!
Dr. Vutha is incredible. He truly cares for his students and is very encouraging. His lectures are entertaining and he is always open to students. He was many opportunities for office hours and review sessions and is easily accessible. He is one of the best professors I have had by far.
Dr. Vutha is one of the best professors I have had here at OSU. He really cares about his students' success, and goes out of his way to help. He held many (optional) review sessions for quizzes and exams, and gave many opportunities for extra credit. This guy is a gem.
Dr. Vutha is the best! He goes above and beyond what exceptional professors would do by offering ample review sessions before exams, times outside of class to discuss material, and more helpful resources which is a game changer for a class like Business Calc. If you get to take Amit, count your blessings because he is a very big one!
This professor was the most organized, proficient, and aesthetically pleasing lecturer ever. His lectures are clear, concise, and coherent. I would highly advise this professor for this course. He gives many extra exercises to help prepare for the exams. The course overall is a bit of a tough one, but he makes it so much easier.
Vutha is an amazing professor. He makes his lectures interesting and is extremely accessible outside of class. he made me actually LIKE math which is insane because I've never had a teacher who made a math class interesting. i love his class and hope to get more teachers like him. DEFINITELY choose his class if you can
he always explains materials clearly, and submits specific notes
Amit Vutha is a great professor. He really cares about his students success and is willing to work with you outside of class. He grades very well and takes into account all work. In math 2174 he did not assign homework, but gives worksheets with good practice problems that prepare you for exams. However, the quizzes and exams were weighted heavily.
I loved having him as a professor. Hes very fair and really cares about his students. I didnt do well in math until his class and I learned a lot from him.
Amazing professor that integrates conciseness, analogies, and passion into his well-prepared lectures. Accessible outside of class and is understanding of his students.
I wish I could give him a 6/5. He does such a good job of connecting with his students and explaining the concepts well. He is also super understanding and will put the student over absolutely everything except his own son. I would take him for every math class if I could
I had him as a TA and he was really great at giving us extra resources and creating extra study sessions before the final. You can tell he really cares about his students and their sucess.
Professor Vutha is one of the most kind, compassionate, & caring professors at OSU. I HATE math. I've always struggled with it, and after taking a W in Math 1130 the semester before (with a different professor), he made the class so easy to understand. He remembers students and wants them to succeed. Amazing man with a huge heart!
Really great and always willing to help!
Dr. Vutha is probably the best math teacher I've had, he actually cares that you do well, and his exam review sessions are super helpful. If you get a chance to take a class with him, do it.
The most awesome professor I ever met!
nice!!!
Easily one of the best professor's at OSU. Genuinely cares for his students and cares about his job. The class material may not be the easiest thing in the world but Amit makes sure to help you the best he can. Would definitely recommend taking him. Without a doubt cares more about his students than anything else. Amazing person.
Amit Vutha is genuinely a great professor and cares a lot about his students. He hosts exam review sessions that are very helpful, responds quickly to emails, and is easily accessible outside of class. The content of the class is challenging by nature, but he tries his best to help students.
Fantastic professor in general. If your struggling in the class just ask him for help and he will literally just set up meets with you to help you catch up. Has review sessions for midterms and 2 practice midterms for each one. Grades well. Put in the effort and you will be fine. Also has extra credit opportunities and curves.
good prof for 1131
Amazing experience with him. He is hilarious and makes content engaging. Always available to answer questions too, he does reviews constantly and will do individual help for anyone who asks.
Amazing professor. He clearly explains math. He is funny and is super caring. He will hold zoom calls for exam and quiz review. He spends a lot of his outside time for the greater good for his students. Exams are hard.
Great professor I missed 3 quizzes from my recitation and he let me take it with him during his own time.
Best professor ever. He formats his lecture notes very clearly - for each topic you can easily follow his examples and teaching. I definitely recommend him as a professor! If I could take his math class again, I would.
This has to be the best math teacher I've ever had. He's very honest about the material and does a fantastic job explaining it. He responds to emails within the hour, and even quicker the night before quizzes and exams. I would retake his class again if I had to because he made math easy for me when it's always been my least favorite subject!
Always held quiz review sessions and midterm prep sessions outside of class time, during his evenings which was very caring. He uses great symbolism during lectures to help us grasp concepts and always kept me engaged. Was very accessible outside of class. Great professor!
Didn't go to as many lectures as I should have, but he's a good teacher. Always makes himself available and posts good notes. Very funny too.
The actual class itself is not bad at all if you go to the lectures and keep up with the homework. There are 10 quizzes, 3 exams, weekly online homework assignments, and 1 final. Amit is such a great professor! He is very kind, caring, and funny. Highly reccomend!
Nicest and most genuine guy I've ever met. Class was somewhat difficult, but Amit made himself so accessible online and outside of class because he genuinely cared about seeing us succeed. I wish I would've had him as my lecturer instead. He's very laidback and his review sessions were very helpful.
He was great, and funny.
Caring teacher, easy class.
he will take care of you
Does a good job treating you like a person and adult rather than a robot or just some kid. Funny too.
The way Professor Vutha taught the course made it very easy to understand and internalize the material. He was always ready to help outside of the classroom and took the time to make sure his students felt prepared to take the quizzes and exams.
I had Amit as a TA and he was incredible. I didn't have the best professor for calc 3, so having Amit during recitation was a life saver. He was funny, interesting, and cares about his students doing their best. He is great at explaining difficult subjects to understand and never makes you feel stupid for being wrong or asking questions.
BEST TA EVER!!!!!!!!!! Amit met up with me before the final exam to help me out because I was struggling and he is the most helpful TA I have ever had! He is very good at explaining things, and genuinely cares about his students. If you have him you will never struggle in math and you will have an easy, fun, and exciting semester!!! Hes a great TA!
BEST TA EVER!!!!! Amazing guy very helpful!!!
best TA i have ever had in my life amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
best ta ever hes awesome awesome !!!!!
Prof Vutha was an amazing professor and a great start to my freshman year. His lectures were detailed and helpful. He also hosted zoom reviews for every midterm and for the final which I found extremely helpful. Overall, his lectures made it easy to pass the class despite the material perhaps being difficult for some. I highly recommend him.
Absolutely awesome guy. Incredibly caring and willing to meet with students outside of class, regardless of his office hours. Lectures are fast paced, but that is not his fault. He makes jokes during class and tries to make the content seem less boring. I highly recommend taking his class if you need the math credit!
He was very funny and entertaining during class, he talked really fast though so you had to take notes fast.
Dr. Vutha is probably the best math professor I will ever have, which is sad for me, but great for you if you're planning to take any of his classes! He explains things thoroughly but in simple ways, and is always willing to help. His office hours are great to go to! He truly cares for you as a person and as a student :)
Amit was the best math teacher I have had. He is very organized and uses a consistent format for lectures. He hosted zooms every Monday to prepare students for the weekly quizzes, held in-person exam review sessions, and was always helpful during office hours. Truly wants to see his students do well. Take Amit if possible.
Amit is one of the best professors I've had and really cares about his students. He's very understanding and has a good sense of humor. Weekly quizzes don't impact your grade too much. HW is due every week but overall a great prof and I would 100% take again.
Not many complaints. Amit did a good job being down to earth and making student feel like they are real people. Taught relatively well, but there is a lot of content to remember for the final.
Amit is the best math professor I have had. He provided us with clear notes and was thorough when explaining topics in lecture. He had numerous office hours throughout the week but was willing to help you anytime during the week regardless of his posted office hours. Amit wanted to see you succeed and cared for you much more than just a student.
Amit is the best teacher I have ever had. He is extremely understanding, down to earth, and kind. I actually learned everything I was being taught and understood it at a deeper level. I am so grateful to have had such an awesome experience being his student this year. He truly showed that he cared about each and every student.
Amit is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is very kind and genuinely cares for all of his students and wants to see them succeed. Going to his office hours is very beneficial, especially for the written homework. He is very lenient with turning in late work and is very understanding.
Great guy, great sense of humor, and very reasonable. Definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. He's always looking to help, and cares more about you than the university and his job.
Beyond being a gifted teacher, this guy's got a soul that's pure gold. He may have hundreds of student each semester, and yet he's got this knack of seeing the best in you and pulling you up, every single day, even if you can't see it yourself. Whatever they're tossing his way in pay, it's a drop in the ocean for what he's truly worth.
My favorite professor!! Nice hand-writing, clear lecture slides and practice midterms.
Super amazing teacher who actually cares about his students and wants to help! Willing to put in extra time and work around your schedule if additional help is needed. No textbook, everything can be learned from the organized notes he posts, and there were no surprises on the midterms. Go to office hours and monopolize on the extra credit offered!
If you are paying attention, it will become clear that Dr. Vutha is a true blessing. He's a wonderful teacher who is extremely humble and selfless of his time. I was a non traditional veteran student and was stressed about returning to college math. His positive energy and support made me feel seen in a five hundred person class and stick it out.
He's awesome. Just take the class, I sucked at pre-calc, and he made me change my approach completely to math. Probably the best professor I'll ever have.
Prof. Vutha is truly one of the best math teachers around. He explains concepts clearly and genuinely cares about his students' success. Definitely take advantage of his office hours - they're super helpful. For study prep, I found unstuckstudy and the free textbook really useful.
A combination of best professor, best TA, and best design of course! Helpful lectures, good grading criteria that reduces stress, always patient, explains things clearly, respond quickly. Prof and TAs are really working hard helping you to get a good grade! Feel so lucky to be in this course for my first semester of college.
nice professor
Amit Vutha is one of the best math professors I have ever had. He truly cared for his students and wanted to see them succeed. He held numerous office hours and held online exam review sessions. He was very responsive to his emails and extremely understanding if you needed to reschedule an exam.
I was lucky to have Amit for multivariable calc in Summer ‘24. He works very hard into making the class run smoothly, mixing ideas, theory, and real-life examples in his awesome lectures. Super chill and humble! He created a real community where everyone felt welcome and actually learned a lot.
Super good class! This professor keeps the workload manageable and understands that students have other things to do. But also makes so many resources and opportunities available if you want to learn the material well and not just focus on the grade. Really passionate about the subject and it comes through in his lectures.
Amit is the kindest, most caring professor at OSU. He is always willing to help at office hours and since this class was online, he was very quick to respond to any questions using Microsoft teams. Nothing but great things to say about Amit.
Amit is a great professor and you can tell her genuinely cares about students. He is always willing to help and accommodate people's circumstances and goes out of his way to make sure everyone can get the help they need. If every professor was like Amit the world would be perfect
Amit is hands down the best professor I've had at OSU. I took his MATH2568 class asynchronous, and I was a little sketched out because I usually don't learn anything in online classes but his lectures are very easy to follow and he does a great job at them. He really does care about his students and wants them to succeed.
Genuinely the best professor at OSU. I had him for 1148, 1140, and 1141. This is a tough class if you are not the best at calculus but he is extremely helpful and is an amazing resource. There is a lot of homework, quizzes, and extra credit opportunities if you do not do well on exams. Overall, he is a super nice person and wants you to succeed!
One of the best professors I've ever had at OSU. Genuinely cares about his students succeeding, and I wish I could take more math courses with him!
The GOAT. No more words. If all math professors can be like him, the math department will be 200 times better.
I suck at calc but he is a sweetie pie and deserves the world. Course was overall okay I just don't like calc and didn't try to crazy on things. Lots of group homework and recitation quizzes weekly but overall not bad. bless that man
