Do not take this professor's class. My class was the 2nd class he's ever taught, and his English is a bit off, so you may have trouble understanding him. He makes many errors during lessons, which confused us even more. He made a scheduling error which forced us to teach ourselves a lot of the material in a few days and take two tests in one week.
He has a really bad accent (which isn't usually a bad thing) but because he speaks broken English, he'll say things like "... now you add to both sides" when you're actually SUBTRACTING from both sides & for people like me who suck at math, he's just made this problems so much more confusing.
Do not take this professor! He does not explain the material well at all. He constantly made mistake when explaining how to solve problems and does not take any suggestions from the class when we tried to tell him we weren't understanding something. He gave us our module 7,8,AND 9 TEST and CUMULATIVE FINAL on the same day.
If your not good in math, not the professor for you. Lots of self teaching . Shows you only his way or no way problems. Even if you tell him your not understanding. Can be a great friend but not teacher. Will not recommend on the sake of your GPA. Grades on test and homework, scrap paper was an extra credit which he told us on last day of class.
This class was the hardest class I have taken throughout my college career. He was also the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. He is very difficult to understand through a thick accent, and he is all over the place with his lectures. Tread lightly when asking questions because more than likely you will not get the answer to your question.
Grades online work only, extra credit was your homework scrap paper so save those. Prepare to see the tutors at the lad on a regular if your not good at math. I'm ok with it but still found it to be hard to retain with him. Good Luck
I chose Instructor Amorce Jean Baptiste and at the last time because there were no other choice but I dont regret my choice he is a great teacher he knows the subject and try his best to make sure students understand the lecture. He does reviews before each exam to make sure students are ready. He cares and listens to his students.
I took this class as a last resort to replace a previous class, but I could not have had better luck. Prof. Jean B. Hefunny and very open to conversation. His lectures are clear and to the point and makes sure were all on the same page. Grading criteria is also very straight forward.
I have taken this class twice in the past, I couldn't understand several concepts causing my failure. I took the chance with Mr. Jean Baptiste Summer A and it worked out. He is a very caring instructor, he's always looking for the best ways to make students understand. He has the patience to be a good instructor. Highly recommended!
I did not want to take this instructor because there were too many bad comments about him but I had no other choice ,I dont regret my choice he is a great teacher he try his best to make sure students understand the materials He does reviews before each exam to make sure students are ready. He cares and listens to his students hes one of the best
This is my second time taking STA2023 with a different professor. This class is easy if your good with math... he is all about lecturing the whole time in the class. All homework's are online, attendance is used for or against you depending if you show up and a total of 4 tests. He has good intentions but I do not prefer his teaching style.
Im horrible at math but he was really understanding. He really made sure we knew what we were doing. Overall just a nice guy and would recommend to anyone taking this course.
1st day of class I did not like It but as the course went on my opinion completely flipped. I was wrong, this professor really broke it down and math finally clicked to me. Doesnt play with phones or attendance but I promise it just helps you engage more in the class. He helps you individually and is very inspirational. Very respected Professor
Professor Jean Amorce-Baptiste was a good instructor. He was a little bit fast, so I had to stop him in order to understand what he was doing but he was patient to make sure you got it. At times, his accent was a bit difficult but for the most part you understood. It was a hard class to keep up with all the homework because of summer semester.
I took this course for summer B. It was pretty fast paced. Gives good feed back on tests. For the lectures he goes pretty fast. Hes is very helpful and will answer any questions you have in and outside of class.
I took this course for summer B. The lectures were fast paced but stops and explains how he did the problems. Is nice and answers all the questions you have in and outside of school.
Very good teacher lectures are long but in depth and is always available when you may need help. He goes a little fast but dosent mind going back a step or two to elaborate.
Mr Jean Baptiste Is a Good teacher but its good to actually pay attention and take good notes in class . he gives out Extra credit :) I would take him again .
Amorce Jean-Baptiste is a great professor to have. There will be a lot of homework. Actually pay attention and dont skip his classes especially on test day. You dont really need your book, cause he will teach you the problems.
Hes a nice guy, he helps u understand something but its one on one and not in front of the class, makes a few mistakes when teaching and can be confusing, its a lot of homework and quizzes and the tests are pretty challenging, basically I lived in the asc lab to make it in this class. if you dont wanna do that, I dont suggest this course
Grades were never on time.
The class is easy if you put the time in
I was really hesitant to take this class because of the previous reviews I had read but I am so glad I did!! Ive always struggled with math but this class really made it click for me. I felt like I was finally good at it. The math homework helped so so much in terms of practicing and mastering the skills. I definitely recommend this professor.
He is a very understanding teacher and adheres to your questions & issues. I took him Summer B and per usual, it is fast paced. He offers a lot of extra credit if you stay on top of your homework. I was hesitant in taking his class bc of the reviews but I would take it again if I had to.
The professor doesnt teach the course we do everything from a textbook the whole time! I took this class blended both online & in person. Didnt drop lowest grades at the end of the term as it says on the syllabus. Emailed so many times and never got a response until the end of the semester! Recommend another professor if I possible.
Very nice professor. Lots of homework, but tons of opportunities for extra credit.
Professor J.B really changed my outlook on math. Yes, there is a lot of homework but he posts video lectures before each test along with optional practice that you can use as extra credit. If you do the practice you'll know exactly what's on the test every time no surprises. I would very much take him again as he was passionate and respectful.
Mr. JB is a really cool professor and you can tell he's really passionate about the course. He really wants you to pass but its up to you to seek help. There are a lot of content to help you on the course. The ASC lab will be your best friend and the work is tedious but that is all of 1033. He offers extra points from participation.
Overall, a decent professor. There's a lot of homework so don't procrastinate, a good amount of notes to be taken. He's a nice professor but was sometimes hard to get a hold of so if you really need something go talk to him.
Great professor, when I reached out I found out I have a great professor, we need more like him.
He is easy going, gives plenty opportunity for extra credit
He's good a teaching but its hard to understand, lots of work that you have to do before meeting for the next class. Class is very fast paced if you don't pay attention and actually learn
He is okay but moves to fast with the work
Professor JB was a good professor. I can't say it was an easy course. It was difficult to keep up with the workload because there is a lot of homework assigned. But if you keep up with the homework and do the extra credit, you will pass the class.
Wouldn't recommend this professor. It was kind of hard to understand him because of his accent and he doesn't really teach much its mostly all online.
He was a very great teacher. The class did have a lot of homework but granted it was a summer class so it is to be expected. He goes over work in class and cares about whether his students understand or not.
A nice and fairly easy to work with professor, however his accent makes him very difficult to understand and often causes confusion.
He is a good teacher, but his accent does make some parts difficult to understand. He always takes the time to answer questions, and explains the material really well. The only down side is the amount of homework in between tests, but if you keep track and stay on top of it, it really is a smooth ride.
He's a good teacher and took to explain every segment. The only you might is to keep up with the assignments as it help with the test especially the practice test. He also record a video of him explaining each topic and have tutoring two times a week for extra help.
Do NOT take this professor! There are four tests all weighted at 60%, with no chance of makeups even with a serious excuse. It is very hard to understand him in his lectures, and there are about 70 pages of notes due every week. The homework is VERY heavy. If you miss anything and try to email him don't expect him to answer for at least 5 days.
Very hard to understand in videos while given notes and the problems given in homework assignments are 10x harder than what is given in the notes, or not given in the notes at all. Gives no corrections on work for tests. The only comment I received was "If you don't show the work you get graded like you guessed the answer.
The class I took is not available to choose on here so I just chose this one but either way, just don't take this professor. There's better options. Everyone I know that has taken this professor is doing poorly or has dropped his classes.
This professor's lectures are obnoxiously long-winded. He continuously harps on simple concepts for minutes on end. The guided notes paired with his awful lectures are the worst things about this class. Throughout this semester, I have had to rely on teachers in his department for quizzes because the notes are not helpful at all.
This man has a very thick accent which makes the two and a half hour lecture we had to take twice a week very unbearable. We also probably lost 4+ hours because he did not know how to do SIMPLE math, and he completely mistaught integrals to us, having to backtrack severely. If you are dual enrollment, do NOT take this class. Save yourself and swap.
This course is very demanding, and his grading is very rigorous. In addition to the heavy homework assignments given; he grades your NOTES, test REVIEW and test work. To make matters worse, he only allots 1 hr to take your test. In my experience, that wasn't nearly enough time for how extensive the work is, which essentially led to poor results.
Although the coursework was heavy, it was also manageable. If you follow instructions, watch lectures, take notes, you will excel in this class. He's always available during office hours if you need help. I had a particularly challenging semester, but he was incredibly patient and understanding of my situation. I highly recommend him—10 out of 10!
DONT TAKE HIM. Makes us do difficult work by ourselves since he spends most of class overexplaining simple problems, no extensions despite the recent hurricane, slow at responding to emails, and many mistakes in the lectures he makes us watch at home and in the answer keys for his test review. Makes me wonder if his test answer keys are accurate!!
I would not recommend his class because of my personal experience. I have a background in mechanical engineering, and while college algebra is easy for me. He ruined math for me. Everything went well until the first test, where I had technical issues, and he didn't help. He takes forever to email back and sometimes never emails back.
You can just run away if you are thinking about taking this class. There are way better professors. He is very slow at graded tests and doesn't email back. I'm still waiting to see if I should drop out because I do not know my true grade. So i don't know if I'm going to pass and were no student should feel
Great teacher to somebody but not me, I could get over the language barrier no problem. But he dwells on the small things to much. Doesn't help either when emailing him he doesn't respond. So I basically learned myself do take his online class. Homework is fine if you stay on top of it, but an hour for a math test was crazy to me.
Jean-Baptiste is rigid and unapproachable, making it hard to learn. He rarely replies to emails, is inflexible with deadlines, and shows little empathy for students' challenges outside class. Grades often lack feedback, leaving us guessing about what went wrong. Overall, it feels like there's minimal support or investment in student success.
Nice professor, but if you are not strong in math then choose another one. Very hard to understand.
He knows the material but doesn't provide feedback on assignments, making it hard to improve. His grading is harsh, and he doesn't seem to care about how students feel. Not a good choice if you want support or clear guidance.
although he seems intimidating inside class, outside class he is really nice and will answer any questions. the way he explains things is sometimes over complicated and catching onto new concepts can be difficult. i would not recommend him unless u are really good in math. test reviews are similar to real test!
You'd better hope there are other professors available. Don't wait until the last second to register for classes, because he'll be the only one left for a reason. 🤣🤣🤣 I won't get into all the stressful details—just don't choose him.
This professor's teaching style is disorganized and hard to follow. When my mom recently passed away from cancer, he showed no empathy, making an already difficult time even worse. He also accused me of cheating when I did well on an assignment and took an unreasonably long time to grade my work. I wouldn't recommend his class.
His module is poorly structured and hard to follow. The YouTube videos don't match the questions, and even if you follow the steps, he gives no points. He loves to accuse you of cheating and doesn't care about personal challenges. Avoid his class
Let me guess, this is the last class available, and you're trying to see if this professor is any good? Don't even think about choosing this class.
Never again….
Thanks to him, I won't be receiving financial aid next semester :)
I assume IRSC gives jobs to anyone. How are you a math professor and struggle to teach? His lectures are long, and his accent makes him hard to understand. If you struggle with math, avoid him. Even with some algebra knowledge, you're on your own—I had to use YouTube to solve problems. He also doesn't care about your feeling or personal problems.
Math is my strong suit and he officially broke my lifelong A streak. He takes forever to grade, and when he does, it is SO harsh. Even after completing the assignments with good scores, I couldn't get past a C. He's the last option for a reason. BEWARE!
I'm never registering for classes at the last minute again.
You need to be very good at math to do well in this class. If you're not, don't choose this professor !!!!
It's hard to understand him; have YouTube videos handy, or you're going to fail this class.
This is my first time getting a D on a student introduction. I have no idea how or why I received that grade on a PERSONAL RESPONSE. I'm sorry that I'm not perfect??? That just sums up his class
My grandmother passed away, and I was willing to provide proof to my professor. However, he dismissed my situation, accused me of lying, and ignored me even after I sent the proof. This behavior was unprofessional and made the class unnecessarily stressful. I strongly recommend not choosing this class.
I don't understand why this professor is so stubborn; it must be due to personal issues outside of class. It feels like he takes out his frustrations on his students, making the learning environment unnecessarily difficult
Drop out or swap your class.
He always thinks he's correct and takes no accountability when he's in the wrong.
I struggled a lot in this class, and instead of offering any support, the professor was dismissive of my concerns. When I asked for clarification, he made me feel stupid. If you need help or have any personal issues, forget about getting any empathy. Just take the class with someone else
Life happens, and sometimes emergencies come up. Unfortunately, this professor doesn't care. I lost a family member and was met with indifference and accusations when I asked for an extension. His lack of compassion is shocking.
The worst part of this class was the complete lack of structure. Instructions were unclear, grading felt random, and the professor was quick to make assumptions about students. I can't recommend this course to anyone
My experience with this professor was nothing but disappointment. The lectures made no sense, assignments were graded inconsistently, and when I reached out for help, I was treated like a burden. Avoid at all costs.
Be smart and register early so you don't get stuck with this professor. There's a reason this class doesn't fill up until the last minute. Trust me, you don't want the stress
The course material is all over the place, and nothing lines up properly. Even when I follow the steps exactly, I lose points with no explanation. He's quick to accuse students of cheating but can't explain his grading process
If you're considering this professor because it's the only option left, just drop the course. Seriously, it's not worth the frustration.
I don't understand how this professor was hired to teach. The lectures are boring, hard to follow, and seem more confusing than helpful. If you're struggling with the subject, don't expect any support—YouTube will be your real teacher
When I reached out about a family emergency, I was dismissed outright. Even after providing proof, the professor accused me of lying and completely ignored my emails. The lack of empathy and professionalism made this class unbearable.
This professor has a way of making you feel like you're the problem, even when the material and instructions are unclear. No matter how much effort you put in, it's never enough.
I genuinely regret taking this class. It's like the professor goes out of his way to make things confusing. The syllabus doesn't match the assignments, and any attempt to ask for help is met with sarcasm or dismissal.
If you enjoy feeling like you're teaching yourself, this is the class for you. He barely explains anything during lectures, and when you ask questions, he gets annoyed. Save yourself the headache and take someone else.
This class was a complete waste of time and money. The professor is disorganized, unapproachable, and refuses to clarify anything. It's like he expects you to already know everything before you even start the course.
thought college was supposed to be about learning, not surviving. Between the unreasonably harsh grading, zero empathy for students, and lack of clear instructions, this class was a nightmare.
You'll spend more time figuring out what the professor meant rather than learning anything. The lectures are vague, the assignments don't make sense, and the feedback is nonexistent.
The professor has no patience for students who don't immediately understand the material. Instead of helping, he just assumes you didn't try hard enough. This class made me question why I even enrolled in college.
The grading criteria in this class are secret codes. Nothing is ever explained clearly, and when you ask for clarification, he acts like you're wasting his time.
This was one of the most stressful classes I've ever taken. The professor's attitude toward students is dismissive, and he clearly doesn't care about anyone's success. I don't think I learned anything useful.
If you like playing a guessing game with your grades and dealing with someone who has zero people skills, then this is the class for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and find another professor.
This class felt like a punishment. The professor had no interest in actually teaching and seemed to take pride in making everything harder than it needed to be. Between the unclear instructions, lack of support, and dismissive attitude, I left this class feeling more frustrated than educated.
Taking this class was like walking into a maze with no exit. The professor's instructions were confusing, his feedback was unhelpful, and he seemed more interested in proving students wrong than actually teaching. I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy.
Just talk to your advisor....
I got a f on my student intro.......
I dropped out of college because of this professor I was right there but I just couldn't handle the stress in his class
It might be better to consider finding a different professor. 😐
3 weeks in the class and I couldn't handle the stress.
If you're weak at mathematics don't select this professor, simple.
Limited time on tests and strict standards :)
Tough class.
Accused me of cheating with no proof :)
Gave me Fs on all test work despite having all work shown and explained and then when questioned he copy and pasted the instructions for submitting test work. Would not recommend at all.
If I could give a zero I would, his test system is awful. Never seen anything like it before, wish I checked this page before taking the class.
Professor has a strong accent which makes it hard sometimes but overall he is really not a good professor, hands out a lot of homework and when you ask him for help he just rereads the question like I already didn't try to read and understand, overall don't take this class with this professor if you want to pass and not have your GPA affected.
Prof. JB is an excellent instructor. He cares, wants his students to learn, excel and be proud of their accomplishments. I can't state that this course was easy and I don't believe that school should be easy anyway. If you stay engaged, attend office hours, prepare the tests/exams, take advantage his extra credit opportunities, you will pass.
he was just a bad professor in general
Not recommended!
Do NOT take his class. I tried to be respectful when emailing him about certain assignments and I was treated with nothing but disrespect. I have always struggled in math but this made it worse.
I took this class during the Summer A term. A test almost every week, and too much homework to stay on top of. This class requires a lot of free time to put towards homework. Tests were not graded in a timely manner, and it was hard to stay motivated seeing almost an entirely blank gradebook halfway through the semester.
He was a terrible Professor. I took him during the summer, so I understood it was going to be a 6wk course. He never showed up on time. tests 60%, homework/quizzes10% of course. extra credit never credited for. Said he will grade it if he feels like doing it (tests). Never graded tests right nor could he explain why questions were wrong.
I dislike this class, and this teaching style. Not given enough time to properly understand material and everything is supposed to be learnt from a poorly made video series by Kelly Cornett. this is not the place to learn algebra. no lectures, class time is just to work on homework assignments, tests worth 60% of your entire grade.
Ever offers to be helpful towards the female classmates...
Find a new professor…
Does not answer emails. Slow grader. Would not recommend.
