Not a good teacher at all!! Very confusing and doesn't explain things well.
good dude.i liked his accent. contrary to the other posts, he will be very helpful if you ask for it.
Mr. Ong is very helpful and nice.
Prof. Ong is very helpful; I got an A in his course. He explains math very well and if you go to his office hours, he will help you with whatever you need.
Tough to understand some times, but he tries to make things very easy to understand and wants to help - but does tend to go pretty quickly.
Professor Ong is really nice and really knows what he is doing, I hate his projects though. He sometimes doesn't explain things enough, but that is my only complaint.
i seem to be the only 140 kid here: he is a very smart man, teaches well and teaches fast. his math 140 is harder than most but that is not a bad thing. it will help later on. hes just past my caliber
hes good i liked him
He is awful. You learn nothing and he goes extremely too fast. He has bull**** web homework that screws your grade. Don't take him if you can help it.
He offers very many opportunities to improve your grade including extra credit and weekly homework assignments. If you tkae the time to do the work , there should be no problem recieving a good grade. Despite what people say, I love his accent.
That's just it, he was TOO advanced to be teaching 21. He went way too fast and if you didn't get it, too F**KING bad for you. The web homework was BS and you can barely understand a word he says!
this guy is a ****ing moron.. you cant understand a word that comes out of his mouth.. do not take this class!!!!!!!
He expects us to have too much prior knowledge. He wants us to read the text, but the text is more confusing then he is. His english isn't the greatest, but he does know what he is doing. If he slowed down a tad things would jive.
Easy class. Web homeworks and written homeworks were cake.

If you already know the material, it's a great review. For all of you who need to learn this stuff, GOOD LUCK! He goes very fast and expects you to understand fater the first time he does a problem. Grades homework every week, usually a quiz once a week, and four exams. Don't take this class.....

Mr. Ong is a awesome teacher, I learnt a lot from him. For those who gave bad comments about him, you are just big losers and cheaters.......
Take this class if you think you are ready to be a college students. If you are juniors who want to be spoon-fed, not only you don't deserve this class, you don't deserve to be a college students.
Prof Ong is too intelligent and does not "teach" he recites facts. He expects you to memorize all the formulas, other instructors do not. If you understand math concepts then he's okay but he is not capable of teaching you if you don't already know.
Not the instructor to take if you have weak math skills. He's unable to bring himself down to a student's level because he's too intelligent. I did not expect to be spoon fed or have my hand held but it would've been nice to have a prof who could teach those that don't already comprehend math.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF HE SHOULD BE FIRED ENOUGH SAID
His intro level math class is really easy if you know math. Other people tend to have trouble though. His homework assignments and online quizzes are very reasonable. He has a unique sense of humor that comes out now and then. He started the class by showing us his rating at this site!
Personally one of the best professor I've had on campus and the best math teacher I've ever had. He's very clear on what needs to be done and always offers help to students. His homework is reasonable and his tests aren't that hard.
Switching sections was the greatest thing I could have done. He tends to move way too fast, and it's impossible to understand him when he lectures. He makes you feel very small, insignificant, and stupid if you answer a question wrong.
Prof Ong is very helpful. I didn't interested in Math until I take his class.
Really smart, nice teacher. Tells random jokes a lot. If you have decent math skills, Amos is a good choice. He has an accent that takes awhile to get used to, so if you have weaker skills, you may want to take someone who would speak more clearly. Otherwise, great teacher.
I liked everything except for his exams. When teaching class, he uses pretty simple examples, but then gives you advanced questions on the exam. I most certainly don't regret taking him, though.
Holly**** did he go fast, its not bad enough he doesn't slow down but he doesn't take the time to help if ur lost, take someone else
Excellent teacher, did a good job explaining everything. Very fair tests, you actually have to know the material but if you expect less you don't need to be in Calc2 anyways.
Does a pretty good job at keeping the class interesting. Much better at teaching the subject than cupliari. Overall highly recommend Ong for this subject.
This is by far the best class in my schedule. Amos is a great teacher who makes the class interesting. From Calculus Trivia on fridays to getting fortune cookies for answering questions - this class is just a fun time.
He isn't that great of a teacher... hes pretty funny though.
He is the best professor I have had so far. The assignments and tests are fair. I like his method of teaching (take notes, practice problems in class while he walks around and helps you). I would recommend him for any math class.

Very Good.
sometimes difficult to understand but if you keep up with the homework and following along in the textbook it's not so bad
I was scared I wasn't going to be able to understand him but he doesn't have a difficult accent. Funny. Good Techer!
Good proff, willing to help his students out
Best calc 140 class available. Would recommend Amos to anyone wanting to get a good grasp on the subject and have fun doing it. Yes i did say fun. Not a big math person myself but found myself awake and ready to take on the mathematical world each and every class.
this dude is awesome.. you might not be able to understand all of what he says but its a good time just laughing at it.. but def take him if he's still left if you wanna learn and get some laughs out of it
amos is The Baron, a mathematician of such high caliber you wonder why he's even at behrend - amos is way out of our league but for some reason is willing to share a bit of his genius with us - rock on, amos - you are the best teacher i ever had!
Amos went over the questoins for the homework that we had to turn in that day. very easy. let us make sugestions for exams
Probably the worst teacher ever. I heard that he was a good math 140 teacher so I took him for calc III (math 230). He would show us examples from the book and solve the problems completely wrong yet its right in front of him on the teacher desk. If you take him for math 230 you will end up having to teach yourself the material.
the only positive thing i can say is that he sometimes made a funny comment that made me laugh, otherwise - makes easy material hard...stands in front of the board while writing notes, and is therefore hard to keep up with...i've had to teach myself everything so far...absolutely do not take him if you can avoid it!
Often explains things in a more difficult manner than they truely are. Simply look in the book for clarification.
Literally copied everything directly from the book to the board. I did better on tests not going to class that I did when I went.
The Michael Phelps of Calculus...
Amos is the nicest guy, but not a very good professor (only 2 math profs at Behrend are not A+...). I had him for alg II. His lectures are unclear, his hw is sometimes impossible (we did U-Texas problems and many had NO right answer!), and he doesn't collect hw b/c he is lazy (a major failing). His tests are fair, but teach yourself.-309
In google they really want you take Amos's class. Go ahead type in "Amos On" and see what the first result is, or even "Boon Wee". He is the king of calculus for a reason. Best math teacher I ever had.
Had him for Math 140 and Math 220. Ong is a funny guy and always willing to help his students!
Best Math Professor I've had. He's an extremely clear teacher. He makes complex ideas easy to understand. His homework policy is great: homework is due Friday and you go over it in class before handing it in. The class isn't overwhelming at all. Definately take him if you get the chance.
Second to worst prof at Behrend. Mumbles when he lectures, stands in front of the board when writing notes, makes the material completely unclear, & teaches directly from the book (it's in the book, it's in the book *headdesk*). Do not take him unless you absolutely have to.
If you dont have a problem learning some things on your own then I would take amos. Yes he mumbles sometimes and is not very helpful but if you actually pay attention he explains things perfectly the first time. Gives easy homework points and tests are straightfoward. Not a hard class even if you only put in minimal effort. Funny guy too
He loves math. Writes everything very formally in class a lot of time the notes make no sense. However you can grasp main concepts in math and learn what you need to know for the test from the homework. I got an A in this class with minimal effort so I would say he was pretty easy. He is also very funny sometimes.
Best math professor I've ever had. He explains things very well and is very upfront on what will be on the exams. Do your homework and review regularly and you'll be fine. Ask questions in class if anything is unclear and get a tutor! I got an A and I am horrible at math.
Good teacher he may be hard to understand at first but he really makes the ideas clear I had him for both calc 1 and matracies and did well in both classes I definately would recommend taking class with him
Extremely helpful. Willing to take as much time as needed to review and answer questions. Recommend highly for an entry-level calculus class.
pretty easy class... fun guy..
Real smart guy "The michael phelps of calculus". My only complaint is he is a little hard to follow sometimes. But if you can teach yourself every now and again i highly recommend him! Very straight forward class. No surprises pop quizzes or BS like that. HW's collected for easy points every friday. Puts review exams online before the tests.
Dr. Ong is one of the best professors I had in math, he is very clear, and he would give you your space to figure stuff out on your own then would help you if you got stuck, he occasionally would give bonus question, and he would always give sample exams from previous years before every exam.
Dr. Ong is one of the best professors I had in math, he is very clear, and he would give you your space to figure stuff out on your own then would help you if you got stuck, he occasionally would give bonus question, and he would always give sample exams from previous years before every exam.
Amos is a fantastic math professor. At first, I didn't like him because he had us memorize some derivatives and such, but after that, he turned out to be a very helpful teacher and a really funny guy. My friend and I actually wrote down a good number of the things he said in class just because they were so funny.
Amos is the best math professor I have had! He truly cares about his students understanding the material. He will willingly help you if you have any questions or do not understand something. The course can be difficult if you dont put in the necessary work. Be sure to do all the homework. Also do all the sample exams!!
Amos is a total boss, best math professor you could ask for. He is a crazy guy but hes hilarious, highly recommend Amos.
Fun class, fun guy, helpful, very nice teacher... Easy to learn, easy to score! :D take him!
Dr. Ong is the man. Amazing math professor and he makes you want to come to class everyday. He has a great sense of humor and will take the time to go over homework and any other questions. For Math 141 make sure you know your integrals/derivatives! Taking him for Math 251 next semester
I think he was okay. I had him for math 230. He does go a bit quickly, but I know I made a few stupid errors, so it may not have been his fault entirely.
Terrible all around teacher... if you can even call him that. He explains nothing and expects you to know everything. Gives you the formula and a worksheet and says go. He never gives you the correct answers to the worksheet and tells you his way is better than the book even though he never shows you his way! Stay away!
I'll have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of Amos at the beginning of the semester. He did end up being an excellent calculus teacher. Gives a test and two quizzes per chapter and assigns a small amount of online homework. His partial credit is a bit harsh but if you do well and impress him he gives you bonus. He really enjoys teaching!
Also took him for MATH230. Great prof. Knows his stuff. Material isn't easy, gives great lectures and the tests follow them. Tests are difficult. Good bit of homework. Provided past exams for Calc II in '13. Did not for Calc III in '14. Gives a very difficult bonus question every two weeks. Won't be easy, will make you work, you will learn lots.
Overall not a good professor, lectures are hard to follow. Goes too fast and expects you to fully understand an entire chapter of the book within 1.5 to 2 weeks. His test are difficult with multiple choice that gives no partial credit. Also there has been a time where I got 0/15 on an exam problem even if I showed all my work, had a slight error.
Expect a exam on the last week before finals and be prepared to have no review for the final exam. Gives very little partial credit and will stand facing the board mumbling and covering up his work while he writes. Does not erase the board and squeezes examples between other example making it impossible to read.
Amos is a smart person. However, he is not very encouraging. If you're very applied, self-disciplined, and an autodidact, his class will be pretty easy. Close to the end of the semester he gave bonus opportunities pretty much every day. He appreciates if you come to his office and ask questions. He says attendance isn't mandatory, but I differ.
Dr. Amos is the man. This is calc 3, you will have to work in order to do well. His exams are definitely fair, if anything, they're closer to the easy side. He also gives an awesome review. Probably the most humble professor I've ever had, which is a breathe of fresh air. Dr. Amos will dance around the room if he thinks it will help him teach.
He is an amazing professor. His lectures are fun, although he usually goes pretty fast paced, so don't think you can skip class too much. You should expect homework and forget about it if you want an easy A. He can be a hard grader. He rally cares about his students and wants them to understand. If you're in for learning, I would really recommend.
Amazing Professor, lectures are always precise and on point to the syllabus. Explains really well when you visit his office hours. can even give you extra credit if you visit him too often. Will use anything that can help students understand a concept.
He's a nice guy and he's easy to access during office hours but he has a thick accent and a lisp so his lectures are hard to understand and I think I'm p good at understanding accents. He spent some lectures telling us we have to study more bc our test grades were so low. Be prepared to do a lot of self-teaching. I recommend UCLA's youtube lectures
Amos is a great guy he really loves his Math. He says at the beginning of class do the book homework and the class wont be that hard so listen to him. The only way you can not pass the class is if you don't do the book homework which is optional.
DO THE HOMEWORK EASY A
Had him for matrices. Hard to communicate with the language barrrier, sometimes he doesn't understand what you're asking him. Very easy A, homework's straight from the book, exams are like the homework problems. Makes you do paper and webwork homework.
His accent and comedy make the Calc 2 concepts we cover in class more dealable. He assigns A LOT of questions for the homework, but as long as you do the homework (about 2-3 hours per week), go to class, review even just a little (Calc 2 IS hard), and can grasp non-intuitive mathematics easily. You'll easily get an A. Amos is an AMAZING teacher.
Had to add the class late due to a registrar error, Amos taught me the material outside of normal office hours well enough to pass the first test in two days. Expects you to do the work and put in the time, but he'll match your effort 100%.
Took Calculus 2 with him over the summer. Very knowledgeable, truly cares about helping you, and will not purposely trick you on exams. He was available every day before/after class, and even offered to come in on Saturday to help if need be. Assigns a lot of homework, but gives practice exams from previous years to help you study. Recommend him.
Hes not a bad professor but hes can give questions harder than necessary on quizs ,exams and homework. Hes also a pretty harsh grader as well. All together hes a good teacher and funny guy but youll have to work harder than others in 230
Very intelligent professor, but is not very clear in teaching methods. Lots of opportunities for extra/make up credit.
Amos is the GOAT of all calculus professors. People claim calc 2 is the hardest calc, but Amos made the course easy. Explains material thoroughly, prepares you well for exams, and his lectures are enjoyable.
Amos is genuinely a good professor. As someone who struggled in Calc 1 I was able to excel in his Calc 2. He'll call on you in class and give weekly homework which obviously isn't preferable but it was for these two things that I was able to do incredibly well in Calc 2. If you put the work in you'll get the grade you deserve.
Absolutely wonderful professor. If it were possible, I would take all of my math courses with this professor. He is great at lecturing and explaining content, and he always comes to class with a positive attitude. I always look forward to this class!
I had him for calc 2 and he made it a breeze. He makes it hard in the beginning but thats only for the first 2 weeks then it gets easier. It is nice how he gives a practice exam before his exams that are similar or harder so if those are easy than itll be easy to get an A on the exam. He didnt post our grades in calc 3 but did in calc 2.
Amos is my favorite math professor at Behrend so far, he does a wonderful job explaining the material and his notes are well-organized. If you have a question on homework or any other material, you can email him and he'll respond pretty quickly to help with the solutions. He also provides multiple sample exams you can practice before a test.
I really don't understand why Professor Amos has such a low rating on here. He is probably the best math teacher I have had yet. He is an amazing person and a lecturer. He knows his material, and is caring about the students. I will definitely recommend him to anyone and would take him again if possible.
Dr. Ong is a very unhelpful professor. His lectures are 20 minutes long, we have worksheets for the rest of the class. Have you just learned a topic today? Great, here's the homework to be completed by tomorrow. Not good at explaining topics at all. Overall a poor professor. I can't wait to see what his exams are like.
Honestly no crazy feedback. He is a solid professor. The homework can be frustratingly long and you are told of the homework a day before it's due. Otherwise no real complaints. He is not my favorite professor at Behrend but he is a solid pick for math classes. Decent guy and a decent teacher. can move a little fast but the exams are fair.
The weekly homework was thoroughly reviewed and provided great clarity on the topics. The lectures were always clear, and he provided many resources for practice. The book is helpful, but honestly unnecessary. He made this class much easier than I expected it to be, and I am now taking him again for Math 230.
He is a great Professor who will go through anything you need with a level of thoroughness that other math teachers does not focus on. He also tells you exactly what will be going on and what you will need to know and what you will be learning almost everyday making each class much easier than not knowing what you are learning.
Listen the most direct math teacher you will have. He does give you a lot of homework, but he does go over the homework in class and help you through it. If you like a teacher that's straight to the point Amos is your guy.
Amazing teacher, the best math professor I ever had. He always had clear explanation, I always knew what to expect on Exams, very fast grading, and he is always willing to help in or outside of the classroom.
Great Professor, took his class as a freshman and was worried about difficulty of college level math, but he does a good job of simplifying the content. Spends the first half of class explaining concepts with an example or two then gives worksheets and walks the room to give individualized help to each student.
Amos is quite easy to follow along with. He drives most of his lessons with examples from his notes so make sure you pay attention to the method of solving the problems. Notes can jump around every once in a while. He starts mostly every class off with a review of what you've talked about earlier in the week. Overall a very smooth course.
Amos is a very approachable professor. He is extremely kind and passionate about what he teaches. I was worried at first that I would not be able to understand him very well, as English is not his first language, but I was wrong. His notes are only examples on the board, but he gives us a lot of practice, either in the classroom or on homework.
I would totally would recommend this professor he might not be the best lecturer but he his a very fair grader. The review exams he did on canvas were amazing the exams are easy you only need to do the review and you will get an easy A.
He is really hard to follow with. In every class he jumps right to the next module. Doesn't give us enough time to even understand the past modules. He grades very tough, no partial credit whatsoever, even if you use the right formula, right steps, but if you get a wrong answer its automaticallly zero. Pop quizzes are not even on his syllabus.
I was given a 15 question homework over the weekend on a subject that was taught that same day when there was an exam on that upcoming Monday. This professor gives very easy problems in class and when it comes to homework the difficulty is raised heavily. My class was also given 5 pop quizzes in 6 classes. I regret taking his class.
he doesnt teach he just gives papers and expects you to know what to do as a person with no prior calc knowledge I suffered in this class and when you ask him for explination he holds his hands up and says "if you have 2 apples and one apple is gone what do you have now..." - I'm not a kid to be talked to like that, I dropped right away
A straightforward professor who breaks down concepts clearly. Lots of homework, but worth it - he explains everything thoroughly. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep.
Amos is a great professor. There are pop quizzes, but he says that on the first day of class. They are worth 5 points only have one or two questions. He posts past exams on Canvas, and some of the questions are the exactly the same. He gives a lot of extra credit, he gave 30 extra points on the last homework of the semester. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK
This man opened my eyes for math. I never had a professor teach as good as Amos does. Give him a couple weeks and you will realize why. He may be harsh with his critiques, but he cares about his students and will answer all questions. He gives out past exams and gives a lot of bonus for homework. He gets progressively funnier through the semester
Absolutely hated my life taking him, made me cry twice in class. Very disrespectful when I asked him for help with one of the worksheets he recommended to use ChatGPT, went to his office hours and it was useless. I hope he gets fired, my advisor told me he heard multiple complaints about him and would have advanced against taking him.
He isn't a good professor. He is a very harsh grader, once told me to use ChatGPT to figure out a problem when I had come to his office hours to ask him for help. Take somebody else. Not him.
