His markers smell funny. Not much EC, but he's a cool guy.
He always makes mistakes in his Exams.
He's so confusing, but he's a good guy. He tries to explain things to the best of his ability but it's still confusing. He sometimes lets you use your notes or book on the test. CONFUSING TESTS!
he is a great teacher!if u are not going to conferences or listening to his lecture, u will fall for sure like rest of them who are complaining!be a smart one and choose his class!
His lecture is Ok. Will get "A" only with his extra credit assignment in his 1A class. Sometimes expect much from students without details explanation on term paper.
He's a very good professor. If you can get around the accent, he's informative, and he knows his materials. Plus you get pizza at the end of his class. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. Getting an A because of extra credit.
He is a really good guy, very profeessional also. Econ is hard, but I understand and learn more from him. The Greastest thing is he is very close to every student. He remember most of the student names. Pizza party at the end of the semester.
I really enjoyed his class. He's not easy, in the sense that if your not there everyday and ready to learn its easy to get behind. But his tests are fair, lectures clear, and personality is cool. I recommend him
She's very slow in speaking and thinks that every word of her's is pure gold, hint hint, that's how you kiss up. Her curve is normal. Her speaking is also sometimes hard to understand. She tends to be on the boring side also, her jokes just aren't funny.
Summer Session, nothing special, your typical CC prof. Take Dr. Jerry Allen (under Political Science) for a real learning experience
he is terrible! confusing, mumble mouthed and insulting
Very nice and helpful professor. But the tests are too hard!
He's a really nice teacher but his test are really hard. It's a hard class and you have to know the lecture and the book. All his tests are multiple choice. Read the book and u'll do fine.
Very good teacher...he is easy and helps out alot..Tests are not that hard either...His lectures are very clear..
Very hard to understand. In his lectures, he goes all over the place and makes it very hard to take notes
super hard class! tests and quizzes are hard. Nice teacher but doesn't make the class any easier to understand it.
GREAT TEACHER! Better than Masoomian! Assigned a 5 PERCENT (of your total grade) extra credit assignment. His lectures are a bit of a challenge for those who like to talk and don't like to study, but if you follow this guy and his real-world examples, you'll get an "A". Econ is a real tough subject.
His M.C.exams are not hard. By the way, study guide is super helpful. After reading the textbook, you may only have a C+; after doing the study guide, you can get an A!! I strongly recommend everyone to buy the study guide.
Very nice and sometimes funny. But the tests are too hard.
He won't help you and his tests are evil. Good luck if you take his class.
hard tests, he jumps around during lecture. don't sleep. take extensive notes. good luck to you...other than that, he's nice and really wants you to learn.
He's easy. Just follow his instructions for hw, he's not very picky about it. Don't miss any hw, and quizes, not alot to read, Uses a very small book. Friendly, helpful, fair grader, funny& finals are easy too, just 35 multiple choice.Quizes, and midterm are easy too. I'll highly recomond to take hi
His tests make baby jesus cry. you have to know everything down to the smallest detail in order to get the grade. Luckily, after the first inclass test, the rest are take home or open book/open notes. His lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the tests. 6% EC opportunity - i advise you take it
took 9-week version classes back-to-back. both classes were not easy. dua talks as if everyone understands and when you ask for clarification you hardly ever get it. grade is based on hw, tests, and a final. if you want the a you'll find yourself studying all the time for it. very hard for me.
Although he really wants you to learn, he lacks structure & clarity in teaching subject matter. Would not take his class again. If you do take, take advantage of 6% extra credit in 1A course. Overall, he's not bad, but he's hard because he has no structure or clarity. Good luck!
He is an okay teacher but could be a lot better in so many ways. The class is impossible most of the time. His tests will make you cry untill you die.The good thing is ec 6 percent but that is about it. Take him at your own risk!!!!
he is a good teacher. Better than Massumian. I would recommened this teacher. He gives 6 percent extra credit opportunity. Tests are hard. You neeed to study very hard in this class. I did and got the A. Nice person. teaches well. This is not a class for slackers. Must do all work. Never miss class or else you will regret it.
Was a great teacher. was in his first class to take the essay challenge.. there was only three C and everything else was A and Bs. He loves what he is talking about and knows what he talking about.. He was always there to help us if we needed it and got along with everybody.. This class was very easy.. Take this class was the best
Very nice teacher, but he is very unclear!! His test are super difficult especially the final. This class can be so much better, but he just lacks clarity.
great teacher and always willing to help you after class. ask him anything and he will help you. he even remembers you years after you take his class if you are the ones who ask for help from him. great teacher and i would recommend it to anyone, but one thing is you have to study in this class. study, his help, paying attention equals an "A".
this teacher is great, might move fast at times but is very willing to slow down and re-explain things with very applicable examples. gives extra credit, is very flexible and takes students' opinions into account when making tests, etc.
This review is based on Summer Session. You have to study very hard in this class but he is willing to help you and gives you many examples until understand. Its very hard to understand him in the beginning because of his accent but you'll get used to it. If you want a easy class, look elsewhere. But if you want to learn, this is the teacher for yo
his class is pretty chill, but you have to study a lot. his tests are pretty hard, but for summer session it was all open book except the final. he a really nice and cool teacher. if you actually try you can pass the class.
this teacher is really, "nice" BUT understanding what is due and when is hard, not to mention the rigor of the subject.IF at all possible, take someone else. I should have listened to the advice of others
never take an online class with him. He doesn't like them(he said)so he doesn't do them well. I liked the freedom that he gave us to choose how the class would be but I wanted him to pay more attention to what he posted on the website. I got an A but I almost felt like he was working against me sometimes.
I was in an experiment class! 2 10 page term papers!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I got a B tho.
this is a really goofy Indian guy. but he makes the class fun with his corny jokes. all tests were taken directly from book. I read the book and aced the class. Lectures are ok, but they don't really prepare you much for the exam. This guy is great, though. He will bend over backwards to help any student in need. He doesn't take himself too serious
I took his class while ago, but as long as you study, you'll be fine. If you have questions, he tries his best to explain them. This subject is totally boring to begin with, so you have to put in on your part.
totally unprepared for class, unfair grader, and rude at times to students. He tries to be funny but he ends up insulting people without realizing. Class was very unorganized! Don't take if you like structure.
Hard class. You have to really pay attention at what he is teaching otherwise you might get lost. His study guides don't really help for tests cause the wording is kinda different. 4 Test, 5 HW, final and some extra credit (which doesnt even help).
This prof is really HARD!!!!! Plus annoying....DON'T EVER TAKE HIM !!!!! NOT RECOMMENDED.....
Way too hard. Took the online class and he was not helpful at all. Emailed twice with questions and he never answered but claimed that email was the best thing to do. Tests didn;t seem to match the information in the book. DO NOT RECOMMEND ON LINE.
Took his class with the 2 big term papers and got a B. Personally I think it was easy, his lecture is kinda boring. But actually you learn the material when you research for information. It might consume some time doing the 10+ pages essays, but he gives better grades.
Good teacher. Homework was easy if you read the book. The test were not that easy, felt like it had nothing to do w/ the book. No papers of any kind. If you have the discipline to teach yourself I would take this class online. Sometimes when he emailed you back he wasn't all that clear. If I had to do it again I would take the internet class.
He seemed like a good lecturer the 1st meeting, but he isn't helpful online. The book is AWFUL...I had to refer to other sources. The book doesn't clarify much. There are about a million typos & a couple of sentences that aren't coherent. He isn't very thorough answering questions via email. I would not recommend him for strictly online class.
Avoid him. Plain and simple.
His test is not easy, but you'll do great if you take notes and listen his lecture. A little HW, esay. He treat students like friends, he is good. lots of fun during class.5 tests &1 final& 4~5 Hw, lots of extra. It is one of my favorite classes in Mt. Sac, choose him!
Tried to take this guy for 2nd half Summer 2006, had to drop the class. Was nice and friendly but he told us from the beginning to study his notes (because that would be on the test), it was a lie, he also gave out study guides. Test had NOTHING to do with the study guides or lectures. Could not understand where the test questions were coming from
I dont know what yall are talking about. His test are difficult and I had to basically look up most of the terms on the internet. However, he drops one test and one homework. His homework assignments are hella easy. He is a nice, friendly teacher.I thought his test was based on his study guides and focus what he talks about.
This class was hard for me, but that's because I don't like the subject. He's a nice man. Do the homework, attend class regularly, take good notes, read the book and you will do fine. If you do opposite, you might fail. If you are doing poorly, ask questions or go to his office hours. He will help.
Hard? Yes. Nice? Yes. Helpful? sort of. He speaks with an accent. If you need help take him in class. Online heard, hes not helpful at all. Test were difficult but he drops one. Homework were hella easy. Do well on the homework, try to do well on test and it'll be fine. For the summer, he had the final optional, so I ended up with a B.
Macroecon online, 1st test is cakewalk (supplydemand basics) 2nd was impossible. 3rd was easy. 4th was optional, as was final. HW takes about 1/2 hr each 6 total, drops 1. Extra Credit up to 6% of grade. I DO NO GET HIS GRADING AT ALL. It's weighted, but my calculations are always different from his. Tried hard to explain, but did not get it. Ez A
Never again. Great subject wrong professor
Excellent professor, who cares about the accent, I understood fine. Knows his subject, extremely helpful. Test are really hard, so I don't recommend taking this course on-line. You can compensate with extra credit and homework. He is funny too.
generally, i wouldn't really recommend taking his class in a short session, but he made it pretty painless for me. homework is extremely easy. gives a lot of EC. lectures were fairly basic compared to the tests, tests were extremely hard.. but most of them were open book. i got an A in the class, and i thought it was fine.
the worest teacher i ever had.. the book is horrible..the tests are sooo hard```nothing to do with the book at all...he doestn teach in class at all just asks if we have any question... dont take him
he is the worst teacher i ever had in my whole life if you care about ur grade don't take him he don't know how to teach. the book is useless waste of money test is hard the lecture and notes did not help at all don't take him.
The worst freaking professor ever. I had to drop his class because I was failing his class. If you REALLY want a good grade in his class, good luck. His book *or lecture notes* HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE EXAMS! I don't know where he gets these questions from either. Doesn't explain things well, worst eacher I have ever had at MtSac. BEWARE.
Dude this professor is the worst thing that ever happened to Mt. Sac. He is so unclear and his lectures are off. Nothing in the book will help u in the test. He is one of the book editors and admits some chapters suck! His accent is horrible, you can hardly understand him. Waste of time!
If you want to actually "learn", do not take his online class. His tests are hard but not impossible. Overall i really enjoyed being in his class simply because he enjoys teaching. Class time just passes by much faster this way.
Do not take his class, his lectures are useless when it comes to exams. He gives a study guide that is totally inapplicable to the exams. In the exams he asks questions that are totally alien. His wording is incomprehensible. Doesn't ask direct questions, he twists his words around in the exams so you'll spend 10 min. figuring out the questions.
Mr.Dua is one of the nicest teachers ever!he really cares about his students & often refers to us as his children.BUT if u really want to learn anything i do not recommend taking his class. His lectures are clear & his accent really is not a big deal.i understood him pretty well.study guides do not help but he does give plenty of extra credit!
His response to an assignment question, "Just read the question more carefully because you have all the information you ned[sic] to answer the questions." If I thought I did, I wouldn't be asking. His "textbook," really his lecture notes, is incomplete/incomprehensible. In the text, "in the equation/graph/table below," yet there is none. HORRIBLE
His test have nothing to do with the reading.....do not take this professor!
He's a very nice guy, but do not take his online class. Even he doesn't like the onlice class. It was nearly impossible to decipher the lecture notes that are the main reading in the class, and questions on the test popped out of nowhere, many weren't covered (or maybe explained) well, and it was a very hard class to understand.
He wrote his own textbook which is full of grammar errors and unlabeled graphs I don't understand. Online class sucks cuz text can barely help you answer the tests. He is smart & nice, but not a clear teacher. Don't take him. Take Masoomian instead.
He is a very nice guy but an awful teacher. Read everybody elses comments and they are all dead on. Textbook is difficult to read, test questions are not composed from reading material, he even admitted he gets them from a "test bank." Overall, I would say stay away and take another professor if you have any other options.
Breezes through material. Fair in grading, helpful if you ask.
he's a great person, but a bad teacher. he can't explain things well and his lectures go by so fast that it's hard to follow, especially when he draws graphs. the test questions come from a test bank and are REALLY abstract! =/ i REALL REALLY advise you to take someone else...sweet guy, yeah, but really bad teacher!
Only thing to be said is that I asked for help through an email for one HW question and his response was " read the book"...I did again and did not get it. Nice to get paid for that!
okay, I'll tell you the truth guys. FIRST OF ALL, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR UNLESS YOU ARE LIKE A ECON FREAK. HIS LECTURE NOTES? USELESS FOR THE TEST. LIKE I SAID, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Easy teacher tests are common sense, i see alot of ppl complaining based on the comments, u guys prob dont even pay attention or anything, especially if ur a business major and takin this class should be easy
I took a online course from him intending to learn a lot about Economics while attempting to attain my Bachelor's degree in Finance and I urge anyone not to take online classes with him. Utterly useless when it comes for help and doesn't care for online classes. It SHOWS!! I've taken many online/hybrid classes. 3.5 average in all online courses.
I got an A in his class, but honestly I really would recommend you pick another Professor. He did not answer any of my questions on the test even though one question had two right answers, which he later admitted. Uses test questions from a bank that is not in anyway related to the lecture notes he makes you buy.
This guy is probably the worst professor I've had. I took an online class from this knucklehead and in the first lecture advises no one to take it (which is the norm usually because it's harder for some). He doesn't like online classes. He doesn't answer questions ("Read The book" he says). He knocks you down to an F for nothing on assignments.
He wasn't that hard after I took his class. I got an A in this class; however, i strongly recommend every to take another professor if you have the choice. He is not a professor who likes to give full credit.
unclear, unorganized, lecture notes are useless.Test questions from a bank. If you want to learn something, you should not take this guy.He will waste your time and money. F- - - -
Do not take him.His test is abstract and has nothing to do with his lecture notes.Avoid him!!
Take another teacher at another school if you can. All of MT. SAC's instructors in the ECON section have horible ratings. I don't have experience with the others but this guy takes cake when it comes down to uselessness. Won't help you one bit if you have questions. Tests seem as if they're taken from a different courses textbook. VERY bad.
You guys just do not pay enough attention to the class.Professor Dua is a good teacher. His class is easy compared to intermediate economics class. But you may only get C+ after reading his lecture notes because that is not enough for preparing the test.In order to get high mark, please make sure you have done additional works.
This man is a great teacher. Anyone who is reading this, I wouldn't put too much merit into the people who are giving him bad ratings. All you have to do is pay attention. Thats it! If you got decent grades in high school (3.2+), you WILL get an A. Anyone hoping to transfer to a good UC, and needs Econ, take this guy. Give's tons of EC too
He has accent?Yes. Tests require logical thiking and math analysis?Yes. But that is not the reasons who complain his class is hard.It is unfair to give hime lower rating. In myopinion,Professor Dua's class is easy.Anyone here who blames Dua is because you guys are lazy.Study hard and stop hating guys.
He's a very helpful professor. That much is true. He does want to help but maybe he doesn't know how to. Students these days require a different style of teaching that he may not be familiar with. He is a little stubborn at times, which is unnecessary. His tests are VERY HARD. The wording is very tricky and you must be a master of the materia
WOW!Professor Dua is the best professor I have had at Mt.Sac.He takes care of his students. The test is super easy if you read his lecture notes.I do not know his other classes. But in my class, the average test score is always 42/50 which is a B.He provides 10% extra credit. So if you get everything B,youwill get overall A after the extra credit added
Take him.A+
He is a teacher who really takes care about his students. But you must read the book and understand concepts before each class.Otherwise, you may get lost. Some people here complains his accent and hard test. That is unfair. You guys just do not study and being lazy.Economics is not an easy subject.Taking Professsor Dua's class should be easy.Enjoy!!!!
What an amazing class.Enjoy!!!!
Professor Dua is extremely helpful and his class environment is suitable for an easy A. The tests are completely based off of his lecture notes, so make sure you read them. One problem I had with him was his clarity might not have been perfect and he is usually quite stubborn when their might be a better alternative to his methods/ideas/knowledge.
I will not miss this professor if the class space is available in Spring and Winter. He is the only economics prfessor to take for who wants to get an A. I got 89% in his class without adding 10% extra credit. The overall grade I get is 99% with having extra credit.Take Dua should be easy to get grade above 90%.Very,very easy.Take him!A+
do not, under any circumstances, take his online class. I took AP Econ in high school and got an A, but when I took this class I couldn't understand anything. The homwork questions made no sense and the reading was miserable & he couldn't help me understand when i emailed him. Terrible!!
This prof is a joke. No help. Will do whatever he can to reduce your grade. Pretends to care when in reality he just wants to discipline us. We're not your children. We're here to get GOOD GRADES and your job is to make sure we do. Stay away form this guy if you really value your grade.
he has an indian accent but he tries very hard to make you understand. and he teaches econ. straight to the point. he wrote his own book so it's very easy to review his lectures. i rate that he's hot because he would actually match his turban with his tie. ^^ just don't be late to his class because he'll count it as an absent. book's about $55
I took Prof. Dua for BUSC1A online. His reading material is VERY hard to read & understand because he wrote it himself, with what seems to be minimal editing. I did recieve an "A" grade though. I failed the first test, got an "A" on the 2 other tests & completed all the homework. I really think he appreciates EFFORT & if you improve.
Wow. Just..horrible. Took online class. I'm a really good student normally, but Dua's material made it impossible to keep interest. EXTREMELY unclear assignments. He also wrote the required textbook. Extremely expensive, yet the worst book I have ever read. Every single paragraph littered with grammatical errors and inconsistencies. Man. Horrible.
I do NOT recommend this professor. Tests are really really really hard. I studied many hours and still could not get a good grade on his tests. Do not take his class!!!
U have to pay attention in class! He talked very fast. And sometimes he was confusing us.For HWs, u have state ur answer clearly or he will mark it wrong(doesnt work when u try to argue w/ him)Tests are very confusing.Ppl who rated him easy bc they had the answers..Read quest. carefully, basically u have to memorize/understand everything in the book..
To say it simply, he's a wonderful human being..but a TERRIBLE teacher. I usually think people on this website are just lazy and complain about teachers, which is why there are low ratings. That's NOT the case with Dua. Avoid him if you can. I took him online-big mistake. His assignments are unclear and his emails don't explain anything!
This guy is so bad, he requires you to buy a book that he wrote(70 bucks) no joke my 8th grade sister can write better than he does. his book feels like an essay filled with definitions that he felt he had to add on and some pictures on it. If your thinking bout his online course, dont take it. The book is so bad that you wont understand anything.
This professor is a real challenge for those who are planning on taking him. I had him for an online course and he was COMPLETELY USELESS. I ended up getting a high B but he had no help. I've asked many questions and his answer was "PLEASE READ THE NOTES" when his notes are either too confusing or there are errors! Exams has lots of graphs. know it
This class is sometimes somewhat remotely interesting but mostly it is really extremely very hard!! Unless you have a 24-hour on site econ tutor, dont expect an A.
I had him for both Macro and Micro. I got an A for Macro and I dropped out for Micro. The highest grade for our Micro final exam was 45%. The funny thing is, everybody cheated.
I dont know what people are talking about on here, either that or he has really lightened up. I would definitly recommend him since he nearly gives you all the answers to the tests on the test reviews, just make sure you study a lot and do the homework better than that zawarhi guy(<< avoid him)
He is useless when you ask him questions. All he tells you to do is "look at the syllabus", which is sometimes WRONG. He will insist for you to look at it, until the class backs you up, ...THEN he will actually listen to your question. He makes you buy his book, which is HORRIBLY written. Book = his lecture (almost word for word).
Took this class online and was not a great experience. First of all, the book is really hard to understand as it was written by himself. When you ask for help, he tells you to read the book instead of answering your question. Which the book has some errors and tough to learn from.
I took this class out of pure interest and now I hate it even more. He is absolutely useless as a professor. You learn more from a 2 year old infant crying all day. At least the baby tells you clearly when you need to do something. This professor, what a nightmare. His accent is hard to comprehend. Not helpful.
he is not a good teacher, however he is a noce guy. He is very hard to understand, and he follows the textbook that he wrote almost word for word with no other examples except the ones given. Makes you graph with excel alot. Overall experience was horrible.
he is a nice professor.. ask questions if u have, and he will answer... is not an easy class but is not hard either... and he teaches just the same is in the book
Very straightforward professor who helps you understand the concepts. When asking a question, he gives you a detailed answer to help you. If you're still lost, he goes into more lament/practical terms so he is very patient. Other than that he sometimes goes off tangent with humorous stories, and also the lecture goes with the book.
I actually like his class. He explained things clearly (if you really pay attention). His test were kind hard but not if you really studied. The thing is if you are really interested in the topic, then you should be fine. Economic is a matter of how you understand it, if the concept is clear to you, there should not be a problem
Avoid taking online class. When you ask him for help, he says read the book. When you ask him something on the assignment, he says read the question again, and read it carefully. Horrible online class. Advise to take him in-campus, avoid taking him online.
do yourself a favor and do not take this professor. i had to drop this class because his textbook is basically his lecture (which he wrote, costs a lot of money, and is UNCLEAR). He is too demanding and the book is not easy. ESP dont take this online!
After reading the previous comments, I decided to take this course to fulfill the challenges of my education. I am a 3.85 GPA student and must I saw I am very unhappy with this professor. When ask for help, he refers to book. The book for this course is unreadable and has a lot of errors. Sadly, this is my first college course that I had to drop.
He seems like a nice person, but as a teacher, he is horrendous. It is very difficult to learn this course because the book is extremely hard to understand because of all the errors. When you ask for help, he replies and says "read the book carefully." But the reason why we ask is because your book is poorly written by your own self?
Worst professor. Do not take him!! You will regret it!! Take another professor, take my advice!! I am saving you time, grade, and misery!!
this professor is horrible. Please do not take him. He is very hard to understand and his homework is ridiculous. He does not teach well and he writes nonsense on the board. The book that we are "required" to buy is written by him and it is very hard to follow. DO NOT TAKE HIM..
This is my first college course that I had to drop! He is actually a good prof. He's willing to help if students don't understand. However, he has a really strong accent. Hard to understand. Tests are challenging because it is kinda different with what he lectured. It will be hard to even get B, unless student already have a good basic on business.
I was in the online sect. the only good thing about the class was that I was able to find the book online free (9e tho). English is not his first language. I got a friend who is a HS econ teacher to help me and even he said Dua's questions didn't make sense. the avg test score was a D. I'm a Honor student and I had to drop. the prof was unhelpful
He uses a book he wrote which is full of grammatical errors and repetitive wording. He uses different sets of terminologies in class and in tests. He doesn't write the question in tests, instead he picks questions from other places so the questions often don't match up with the study guides in the book! I wasted much time to get A in this class.
This is the second time taking this teacher, and for the second time he was just as bad. The book has been written in a 3rd grade level, where as the questions are college level. Find someone else!!
I managed to get a B in this class and he was nice enough to help. However his first two tests had different terminology from the book that we used, but the last two tests had the same terminology. He also gives extra credit to help with grade. His class is pass-able, not that bad.
DUA IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER!! If you ask him for help, he gets mad and tells you to get a tutor. He is not help at all! I had to drop.
The Professor was very helpful and knowledgeable. He goes the extra mile to make sure everyone gets what he is explaining. If you are not willing to study and do your part, you'll probably think that is a hard class. I would 100% recommend this professor and I'm taking him again for 1B
This is not a hard class, yet Dua makes it so difficult. He wrote the book that is required for this class and it is full of grammatical errors. He is not a good teacher at all! You will regret taking his class.
I took him for an online course. He is easy enough to get a hold of, if you are diligent with trying to contact him. Test-wise isn't hard because he gives you a study sheet. It's not a hard class, but he makes it a bit more difficult than it should be.
took him for both 1a and 1b he really is not a good teacher at all. I am not a complainer and typically do well in school, but he made absolutely no sense. His test were completely different from both his lecture and his text book. He acted as if we should have already know the subject. I would not recommend him to anyone.
DON'T EVER TAKE HIM. He use different term in his book than the outside world. I think he do that just to sell his book
The worst professor by far. Do not take his online course. he deducts points sometimes because he can not read your work. His class also does not help you at all. when I attended his class I needed help understanding, I could not under anything he said. He also gets off topic asking things mainly to girls. seems to favor the girls.
He is helpful and very nice. I was terrified of this professor when I read the reviews, but he is actually a very good teacher in my opinion. I believe he has lightened up due to all the poor reviews from students. Lectures are great; you will learn to understand his accent later. True, his "lecture notes" are full of errors, but they ARE helpful!
I took Dua's BUSC 1A class back in Fall 2012 and failed with flying colors, so I decided to crash his class and took it again in Fall 2013. It was a lot easier the second time around of course, and his teaching is not as poor as everyone makes it seem. Just read the book (lecture notes written by himself) and show up to not miss random quizzes.
Very nice professor! He is willing to help when you need it. Grades a little hard on homework. Random quizzes are given so don't be absent a lot. Lecture notes have some errors, but are helpful for the tests!
Really nice teacher, but class was really hard. A lot of people dropped and towards the final a few of my fellow classmates were also borderline of a C/D. I was just happy I managed to receive a C, could've been worse. Just prepare to work hard if you take him.
Professor Dua is a nice guy. Grade is based on quizzes, a midterm, homeworks, and the final. Little extra credit is given. He tries to make sure students understand the material. If something is unclear, he does his best to make it clear. Do not be absent on random quizzes, it will hurt your grade. Study hard if you want to pass this class!
Grade consists of 8 quizzes, 1 midterm, 1 final, and 9 homework assignments. Dont miss class because quizzes and hw are given out IN CLASS and at random times. Theres no makeup for hw & quizzes. Also, he curves the final. The book is lecture notes written by himself. Overall hes an okay prof. Take him if you wanna challenge yourself
Loved Professor Dua's class. After reading all the reviews, I was scared going into his class. However, I found his class extremely interesting. You do have to attend class, and READ THE TEXTBOOK. Tests and quizzes can be difficult. But, he really wants his students to learn and have a good grade. He will help.
Very nice professor and is willing to help his students! He has lightened up! Quizzes and homeworks are given at random times! Overall, a great professor, TAKE HIM!!
The HARDEST CLASS ever!
Out of my 2 years at Mt. SAC I can honestly say he was my favorite professor. I tansferred to CSUF and the Mihaylo College of Business grades way harder than him. This is one of the few classes that actually prepared me for University level work. The rest of my classes, not so much lol. At the time I thought he was a 35 but looking back he's a 5
Professor Dua is a really nice guy and funny at times. He also knows his materials well and is willing to explain to you if you don't understand. The 2 things I hated are his "textbook" and his tests (only midtermfinal). The book (he wrote) is poorly written and hard to navigate. The questions on his tests don't seem like anything he's covered.
Sometimes this Professor is not really clear on how to do the assignment and homework. Stubborn guy who insist that he is always right. trick questions all over the homework, quizz, and exam. 50% grades from mid term and final, so good luck with that. cheers.
The final grade is curved and extra credit is abundant. No reason to get below a B. If you suck at basic algebra, then perhaps business is not for you. Looking to walk that "A" into the goal? Don't take him. In fact, if you're tight on cash, you don't even have to buy the packet (it's only $27). Just show up to class and take good notes.
Useless and condescending. Sums up the Econ department at Mt. SAC for most professors with a few star exceptions. Take the professors who actually teach, not the ones who refuse questions in office hours.
Econ is not a easy subject, but he makes it harder . He makes his students buy his lecture notes, which is poorly written. The material he teaches in class does not match up with his tests. There aren't much points you can get in his class so it's hard to make up for your grade. Don't take him unless you really have to. Great person, terrible prof
he's a nice guy, funny during the lecture. but tough grader and sometimes strict!! he's exams are tough. gives pop quiz but u can look at ur notes. hard to get a good grade!
He grades the homework strictly, gives random quizzes, and the midterm questions were worded in a way that were just straight up confusing. Do not take him.
worst professor ever
Terrible teacher!! You won't learn anything. Take someone else..
Where do I begin? Dua, in all honesty is a caring person but he is not one of the best professors. His course was immensely unorganized, he assigns a textbook but not even teach out of it. His lectures are on the more confusing side and it doesn't help that he does not know what chapter the info is from. Would not recommend Dua as a Econ prodfessor
I took Dua for both classes and I believe he's the best. He does not teach straight out of a book and does not give you definitions to memorize, because that is not how you learn! He expects you to understand the concepts and to be able to apply them to any situation. If you read, study and go to class there is no reason why you shouldn't pass.
He's a very smart person and knows his stuff, but the class does not reflect that. His lectures are unorganized and does not follow the book. I barely opened the book this semester and is just a ridiculous class.
He is a very highly underrated professor and a sweet man. I understood him clearly, even though he has an accent. He clearly has a passion for the subjects he teaches and gives extra credit opportunities. He is also funny and always asks how you're doing before class starts.
So. A lot of folks on here are complaining about him being unclear. I never got that impression. Basically, people were having a hard time with VERY basic algebra, which just goes to show how our atrocious public high school system is failing us. If you're scared, don't be. Professor Dua has some interesting tales and makes the environment amicable
Terrible professor ever forever
Professor Dua is a very nice man but if you are not well versed in business or plan to go into that field, it may pose a challenge. Being a science major, this was a required course for school(why i will never know). A lot of the times it was very difficult keeping up because I was the only non business major in the class so he went pretty fast.
The most confusing class I ever took
Course structure is a bit unorganized and doesn't follow the textbook, otherwise an okay teacher. Strict grader, be sure to show ALL work in homework. Gives pop quizzes, don't miss class. Also very strict with showing up on time and may not give quiz if you're late. Remember: He has a small grading scale (200 total pts), so every point counts.
Professor Dua has by far been the most compassionate and caring professor i have ever had. Macro and Microeconomics are boring classes, but he does his best to make them relatable and NEVER has an issue explaining things over and over again. He is honestly so amazing, communication is key. He has NO problem working with you if you let him know.
Dua is the best econ professor at Mt. Sac! I took him for both classes after not passing another 1A professor. He's tough, but he's the best choice. Very friendly & fun to talk to. I definitely recommend him.
This class is easy if you study. He gives you his notes, that is the book you buy. He is clear on the lecture. I recommend this class.
Dua is an awesome professor. He's willing to help you when you do not understand something. The class is easy and you use his book that he wrote which contains study guides that are helpful for his test, that are not very difficult to begin with. Be sure to make it to class on time to take the quizzes his gives at the beginning or it might cost you
MUST SHOW UP TO CLASS ON TIME or else you miss the random quizzes BUY THE BOOK. It's $30 and it's a LIFESAVER He's a good professor and tries to make class entertaining. He can get a little confusing, but if you just read over the book that he wrote, you'll be fine. REALLY STRICT on phones out and talking to other groups during group work
He knows his material, just a bit unorganized and lectures are confusing. The material on the exams differ from what he lectures. Overall, tough class.
This professor is great! He tries to help whenever you have a question. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Buy the book and read it!
His lectures are straight off the chapters from the textbook (which he wrote). So reading the chapter beforehand can really help you understand what he's talking about. His quizzes and tests can be difficult so you really have to study for them. He gives plenty of extra credit so make sure to do it!!! Overall, a really nice guy!
Professor Dua is one of the best professors I've ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and their academic success. I had some personal during the time I was taking his class and he really worked with me to make sure I was successful. HOWEVER, stay on top of work & BE ON TIME. Class is not hard as long as you do the required work/reading.
Professor Dua is one of the best professors I've ever had. Just be in class On time. quiz and tests are easy
Good professor would take again took for Busc 1A and Busc 1B
Unconventional lecture. All off the top of his head. Very knowledgeable but lacks character. Dont come late
This professor requires you to purchase the text however the text is not text. It's basically word for word everything he says in the lectures but you can't miss class because there are pop quizzes. He gives you many open book quizzes and is lenient on tests but the final got me and I finished with a B. It was a sad semester.
Professor Dua is a very kind and knowledgeable man. He lectures the whole time, with a few homework assignments. He only gives a midterm and final, but has multiple pop quizzes throughout the semester, which add up. Attendance is very important. He doesn't give out the quiz after class has started and doesn't accept late work.
I like business class but this professor is not a recommendation. For those who are gonna take this professor should think twice. Be prepared to be on time, 2-3 minutes before class begins, otherwise you''ll miss the quizzes, even just 1 min late. the quizzes last for 15 mins for 5 questions. Don't understand such strict policy. Horrible!
One of the most boring classes I have ever taken. He has his own textbook which is exactly what he lectures. Couple of extra credit opps. Random pop quizzes, if you show up even a second late you miss the quiz. Asks you to leave the class if he sees you with your phone. Hes a nice guy but I wouldn't take the class again.
He wrote a word doc book, same info as lectures. I find econ difficult and he makes it understandable. He clearly outlines his expectations (pop quizzes-open book/note, CAN'T BE LATE, no phones, HW, midterm/final-3x5 notecard allowed). If you follow, you will pass! Have to put in the work, but you will learn. Very kind person. EC options given.
He is very monotone and his accent is heavy. He likes to use the whiteboard to draw graphs but instead of making new graphs everytime, he draws over old ones making it so there's a cluster of data difficult to make out. Kicks kids out of class if they are on their phones, yet allows laptops. Would highly recommend finding a different professor.
I loved Dua. He makes economics understandable by using life examples. His homework is fairly easy, quizzes are OPEN BOOK. Tests are average if you study you will be fine. . Do not miss class he usually gives his quizzes on consecutive days if you have quiz on monday there will be one wednesday.
He teaches in understandable ways and the lectures are directly related to the (very helpful!) textbook. Class structure is fairly simple with two exams, occasional quizzes, light hw, and extra credit. An overall great professor and great person, take him!
Professor Dua is a very nice guy and wants to do what he can to help out. But even at that, he is lecture heavy, very boring, lots of quizzes and exams are very tough. As long as you read his book that he wrote himself, you will pass. Even at that, the exams and quizzes are off a test bank from somewhere else. Please be on time, you'll fail if not.
Professor Dua is great! He gives real life examples in order to make students fully understand Econ. It is definitely worth taking econ with him. If you read his book and go to class you should be fine.
He's a nice and approachable professor but tough to understand during lectures. Sometimes moves too quickly with a topic and moves to the next. Beware of pop quizzes, they can be tricky. He does let you use notes during the quiz though. Tests are similar questions but also tricky.
Honestly I did not realize how good of a professor he was until I took 1B with another professor. He is a great teacher, but in order for you to get an A you need to be a good student.
Professor Dua was great for my Econ over winter intercession. He may be hard to understand sometimes during lectures but make sure to ask questions when topics are not clear. Quizzes are easy he allows notes and the book. Tests are not too hard if you just read the book. Overall youll have to put in some effort but its easy. Also he is very kind
I took this professor in a 6 week course. He is very particular on being on time, so be sure to get there early or he will not let you take the quiz/test. He also will kick you out if you are on your phone. Besides that he is a decent teacher he did make things interesting, he was available when I had questions, I liked him better than my 1b prof.
Professor Dua is a pretty good teacher, he does lecture the whole class so it may get boring but it's really easy to pass. The quizzes are easy if you pay attention, the homework and lectures are basically in the book. Really nice but big on being on time and not being on phones.
I will never take his class. There are 245 points totally. if u want to get A . you have to get 220 points. By the way, 50 points are quizzes; 115 points are midterm and final.
Professor Dua is very strict when he ASSUMES that you are not paying attention, such as HELPING my partner out because Dua has a thick Indian accent. He is also not very caring, especially if you did something wrong (using the phone as a calculator, from then on he always has a negative attitude this student). He also goes off on random stories!
I didn't mind Prof. Dua at first but he became rude and condescending whenever I would ask for more help explaining certain aspects of economics. He never lets you finish explaining how you understand the problem, and proceeds to cut you off whenever he gets the chance. I know it's the summer session but he needs to slow down a little and help out.
This professor has his own book and yet all his tests, quizzes are from an online test bank, the way he teaches is confusing and inconsistent. Sometimes in class he would crack a joke or so to be better understood and to develop a relationship with student creds for that but he would often skip a few explanations and tricky wording without context.
This guy is UNREASONABLE, DO NOT TAKE HIM, first day of class he said that he would give 2 warnings about playing your phone in class, the next day a guy checked the time on his phone and the professor kicked him out, grading is confusing, tests and teaching wont match.
Long lectures which can become boring, stay engaged Available to meet and wants to meet with you Uses his own text he wrote, he explains very well for people who are not familiar with economics/relateable examples Don't be even seconds late, there are no make up pop quizzes Not an easy A but easy if you pay attention/understand (ask questions)
Professor Dua was one of the worst professors I've ever had at this school. I do not recommend especially for summer. He would try to cram unnecessary info into his lectures that we wouldnt even be tested on. He makes you buy this special book ($50) and he doesnt even follow it! Poorly worded assignments/tests! And his grading is unreasonable.
This professor is the worst. There was a time when he openly said that there was a mistake on the homework and the majority of the class missed it and he didn't even give us the credit for his mistake! Very tough! He is also VERY old school does everything by writing on the board and goes fast when speaking over important ideas. Very unreasonable!!
I see a lot of people talk badly of this professor , in all reality he isn't that bad he makes you buy a text book he wrote you can buy at the bookstore definitely helped me when I didn't understand the lectures. He can go on and on about any of the topics but he tries his best for people to understand. STRICT on phones you're in class clam down.
Absolutely terrible. The Required text is a Word printed looseleaf book written by him with BARE MINIMUM visual aids for a heavily Quantitative Class. Labels on graphs are missing or poorly labeled. Technologically Incompetent. Very Unreasonable Professor. NO FORMAL STRUCTURE. The class white board is basically your mind's eye the way he teaches.
Professor Dua class is structured very poorly. His textbook is some printed class notes, which are sometimes very confusing and poorly worded. He does reply to emails quickly and loves to help students succeed. The tests are also very easy if you study the materials. It's an easy A overall, but the quality of teaching is disappointing.
His textbook's very poorly written, so hard to understand. Seems like nobody understood. Only gives a day to do each assignment. Tests have to be taken on a specific day, can't take them whenever you have time, like other async classes. I have other classes on test days so I don't have much time. he doesn't know how to use canvas. seems nice tho
Not sure why so much hate, don't be discouraged to take him he is not a bad professor. Took him during pandemic and his online class was very straight forward. Read the book, study for exams and you will do fine. Homework isn't bad at all.
I had Professor Singh and his class was unprofessional (although I was never able to go to his office hours since he did not indicate that he had them prior to me signing up for his class!) His class had 1 book with few assignments for practice, test questions had spelling errors and there was no proctorio, there was no pre-recorded lectures.
overall great class and amazing professor. He was available every Weds for office hours. You have to buy a book that he made. Honestly it was very helpful. When writing discussions he told you what chapter to review and what to search for online for guidance. He also offered extra credit. I would definitely take another one of his classes!!
The teacher doesn't teach you anything Literally. Google is your teacher. You have notes to buy from the bookstore but they're hard to read. Grammatical errors on Assignments, Test, and the Final Exam makes it hard to answer the questions. Be ready to google and research every formula on an assignment or test because theirs no study material.
Lectures can feel a little long and his accent/writing can be hard to understand but if you keep up in the lecture notes textbook, you'll be fine. 8 hw assignments, 2 midterms, and 1 final (weren't hard). Assignments were completed online at home. He is very sweet and can pick up a fast pace at times so just ask questions and work w/ friends.
All the homework you could find the answers in the textbook but the quizzes were more difficult. Although I wouldn't take the class again if I had to, it ISN'T AS BAD AS PEOPLE SAY. Because of the reviews I was scared but I had an 88% but since I went to his office hours he bumped my grade to an A. So he does recognize when you put in the effort.
I really enjoyed this professor! Everything was very straight to the point. You have to get a book that he published. Lots of reading, and you can find the answers in the book, the quizzes were a bit more difficult but if you read the material, you can understand. I took him Summer 2022 and was bummed he didn't teach 1B at that time. Recommend!
