Great instructor, loves discussions. Speaks fast but I found her easy to follow. She gives quizzes after every chapter, if you don't show up you don't get credit for the quiz. Quizzes are helpful study guides. She is very strict with tardiness and attendance, but will help if needed. I would LOVE to take her again. 1 group presentation. not a fan.
I took this class for Sociology 101 and really enjoyed it. Ms, Andrada is quite young so she can better relate to both her younger and older students. She talks very fast but she def knows what she's talking about. She loves discussions and IS VERY OPEN. Class will consist of long powerpoint lectures followed by a quiz at the end of each chapter.
Ms. Andrada is an awesome teacher, she is young and seems to love teaching. She offers plenty of extra credit and makes you critically think about social issues. The work is real easy and you could easily get an A by just showing effort. BTW she loves when students participate and ask questions
My favorite teacher ever!! Don't listen to any of the other comments, if you want to be in a fun class with an amazing and enthusiastic teacher that makes you excited to go to class pick this teacher! She's hilarious and a genuinely great person I can't express my love for this woman, highly recommend her class for anyone.
There need to be more teachers like Ms. Andrada if not only for the fact that she cares about her students and takes the time to make sure they understand the concepts, explains all of her lectures clearly and give more than enough time to complete assignments. Just reading the lectures and studying the notes you should be able to pass with an A+
She is so freaking cool. She discloses some pretty personal information but it's funny. In fact, I think it strengthened her connection to students because she showed us she's a real person with a real life, not just our professor. Her tests are extremely easy if you study the open-book quizzes she usually gives after every chapter.
Ive never been in a class that was so involved. And that is because of the Instructors ability to make people feel relaxed and comfortable. She Well Spoken and Enjoys teaching. I would highly recommend Amy Andrada. pc
Prof. Andrada is a clear-liberal-feminist, not a bad thing, but she is clearly trying to impose her views. Do not ever ask her anything that goes against her views. I would take her again. She's eye candy & a very intelligent person, whom is to be admired.
good class. teacher is gorgeous. makes it a bit harder to listen but overall good teacher.
Ms. Andrada is a great professor. She is halarious and always invloves her personal life with the lecture. She communicates very well with her students. You won't regret it!
The class was very easy to pass. Talks fast. Can be hard to understand. Not an experienced instructor. Uses profanity sometimes. Overall the class was just average. Class discussions were good. Take someone else if you want a challenge. Nice person through.
Great teacher!! Really love her lectures, makes things interesting, really inspirational, and good looking!! Take her you wont regret it
Hates republicans. Absolutely loves liberal ideas. Is all about feminism. Doesn't seem to understand economics. You should take her.
Class was okay. Can be confusing because she talks very fast. The class discussions were alright. I was looking for a challenge when I took this class so I would not take her again.
Class was okay. The discussions were good. Nice person.
DEFINITELY WOULD TAKE THIS SPECTACULAR PROFESSOR'S CLASS AGAIN! You can tell she cares very much and wants to make a difference in students lives. Engages the class a lot, clear grading criteria. Attendance MANDATORY (but she's such a good teacher you would even look forward to an 8am class with her seriously) Mature students only.
Teacher is over-rated. Be honest making comments. Inappropriate discussions which consisted of fowl language, and opinions not backed by research, but her personal views. Unorganized. Easy test & assignments. Fair. Skill-set is limited pertaining to some information. Overall a good person. The good part, class is over. Wouldn't take again.
AMAZING professor at SMC! She is clear on what she expects from her students and writing assignments are easy if you do the readings. Lectures are super interesting and clear! she is also very funny! I would definitely take her again
Andrada is an amazing professor and you will be lucky to get her class. Clear and concise. She cares about the students and is relate-able. Course work is easy if you go to class and interesting. Take her at SMC!!
AVC Summer 15. HAPPY we are FINISHED. Talks fast. Some things were not clear, but she will help you. Test & Assignments easy for a college class, no challenge. Sometimes not organized, which is a loss of class time. If you want an easy "A" take her class. Easy Breezy.
Professor Andrada uses Sociology to explain why there are so many injustices still in existence today. Amy teaches that we fight with the weapon of education to make a change in our society. The students who left bad reviews said no such thing in our class. I loved taking Professor Andrada this summer.
This is the best class I've ever taken at AVC. Professor Andrada is unlike any professor I've ever had. She's absolutely hilarious and extremely relatable, but she also knows what she's talking about. I learned a lot in her class, and it wasn't TOO hard. Exams are 100% just vocab. Every single one. There is a research project too! But take her!!
BEST class I've taken so far. She's hilarious and an amazing professor, she really captures your attention during lectures. Tests are all vocab so if you memorize those you're good, research project is long but if you follow her advice you'll for sure get an A on it. I love her and would definitely take her again. 10/10 highly recommend.
Andrada is an amazing teacher. She does so much to help her students and she really loves teaching and sociology. Tests are 100% vocab and are very simple. Two essays, very easy and the research essay. Research project can be difficult but she's there to help. Take her if you need Sociology, she's wonderful.
I took Mrs. Andrada Fall 2015. She takes some warming up to, but by the end of the semester you'll love her. She uses profanity a lot, so don't take her if you don't like that. 4 tests, 2 writing assignments, and 1 research paper. All tests and assignments are very easy as long you pay attention to lecture. Offer lots of EC. Very enjoyable class.
Took Ms Andrada's class Fall 15. She is a great person, hilarious and she makes class enjoyable because of her personality. BUT, she talks very fast and does not elaborate on important subjects. It was not very interesting, didn't learn much. But you'll get an easy A if you learn the vocabulary for the tests and do the assignments ON TIME
I took this professor in Spring 2014, absolutely amazing. She use blackboard so grades always up to date and grade by the point system. Always turn in your work on time because she does not accept late work. Learn the vocabulary overall great class to take because you will be able to understand society.
She does not have mid-term or final exam, only 4 exams and 2 essays; however, one of those essays is 100pts and even if you got all perfect scores until this point, you receive an automatic F and the comprehensive exam she gives for make up is way harder, so do the essay and you will pass. She doesnt know how to talk to students correctly in email.
Professor Andrada is very passionate about Sociology and enjoys hearing other students' perspectives. She is a great teacher.
She seemed to care for students and their grades but towards the end to even get any clear feedback from her she would still be vague! Not helpful with explaining things in more detail to fully know what she wants. Only good thing is her tests are easy because they are just like quizzes and the flash cards. I would never take her class again!!!!
This intersession class was so awful. She's unorganized, gets off topic, forgets what she says. And obviously doesn't take the time to email you or answer any questions regarding your grade. Ms Adrada if you don't like answering our questions don't teach! That's why your a teacher you work because of us us , so treat us equal thank you
Thought this class would be fun and interesting but the teacher is very one sided in regards to certain topics. Tests are easy study flash cards and had one easy paper. Beware of project that is graded vaguely and was so much for just 5 weeks. Hardly used textbooks, lectures are posted online.
4 exams very easy study vocabulary and quizzes, gives EC but doesn't seem to do anything especially when she makes one for you bring in food, project,& one paper. Grading can be vague and not very helpful when she claims to be so it's misleading to ask for help from her.
Class is an easy A or B but the professor isn't very professional with discussing grades. Just follow the syllabus and rubrics because that's all she tells you to refer to. Had exams, paper, Extra credit, and project. Do watch interesting films about the topics
Probably the worst professor I've ever had. She's biased in certain topics and won't do nothing to help students when trying to ask for help. Oh and if you do try getting help from her, she's very rude and sarcastic about it in her emails. She's very unfair when it comes to grading and will not explain clearly why you got the grade you have.
Professor Andrada is HILARIOUS! Very straightforward. She is always open for other students perspective. Test were easy, just remember names, vocab, and ppts. Did 2 writing assignments ( super easy) and a research project (super easy). No midterm or final exam. Never bought a book, not entirely necessary, but is good to have.
She is light hearted, funny (When time allows), and is good at making the material relate to you as an individual. However, don't take here light hearted nature for granted, she does lay down the law as well as what she expects from you as a student. She is very clear about her grading and does hold you accountable. If you fail, it's YOUR fault.
Even though there are times where she'll cuss like a sailor, Professor Andrada is definitely a teacher who loves what she teaches and will make sure you learned what you needed to learn. She is EXTREMELY entertaining, so being boring will not be a problem. As long as you show up and pay attention to her, the entire class is a worthwhile breeze.
Was really sick, missed 1 day and got dropped. She did not care whatsoever. My advice stay away.
Lectures were long and textbook was pointless to buy or rent. Class was an easy pass but just beware, she is very unprofessional via email and it made it hard to come and talk to her about class material. She is funny which makes it not a boring class. Gave extra credit that did NOTHING to help with raising grades.
The worse professor I have taken. She is unprofessional ALL the time. She curses during the entire lecture. You sit and listen to her rant about her husband and son, but when you send her an email regarding class she is sarcastic and doesn't provide help. She is a hard grader and does not allow ANY excuses for missing assignments. No book used
Amy Andrada is a great teacher. She is very clear with what she wants and expects. Beware she uses a lot of profanity but it keeps you up and alert. she gives 4 test which are all based on vocabulary which she provides on blackboard under flash cards and you can print it out and 1 group presentation which is pretty easy
Great teacher! Supper passionate & funny, it makes class super easy to understand. Her teaching methodology is life & just the over all way she presents herself. Take her!
She was a great teacher! Very informative, very involved with the class, and made the class very enjoyable. Would definitely take another class with her.
She gives you many opportunities to show what you know about the subject. There are a series short essays, online reading quizzes, and pretty difficult tests. Offers tons of extra credit and willing to go above and beyond to help her students understand the material. Great professor!
Originally thought she was unwelcoming and pretentious, but because I took this course online I didn't have to deal with her in person. She gives good feedback and will help if you're clear and straight forward. Emails back within 24 hours. Lot of coursework, so maybe take this with easier classes. Overall, I learned a lot.
She made sociology interesting. Her attitude is on point she's real and genuine. Don't slack off or try to be disrespectful her own students will check you because they have her back. Gives quizzes however if you pay attention in class and do the pre-quizzes you'll be fine. Pay attention to her lectures and done be afraid to ask questions.
I took her Soc101 online course spring of 2017 and I really enjoyed it! It seems like a lot at first, but the work is actually enjoyable to do. She assigns Ted talks for every discussion board and assigns documentaries for weekly papers! The quizzes were once a week as well and only 6 questions. I would definitely recommend her online course!
Great Professor! Taken for granted because she is young but intelligent and hilarious! taken during summer and was fast paced. Great weekly topics and videos. Test were a bit tough not really relatable to discussion make sure you read the Ebook to study for test. Overall one of the best inspirational professors Ive taken.
favorite teacher so far. no quizzes, just 4 exams. All work is turned in & graded online. a lot of homework but little assignments. Two assignments a week of a 500 word based on documentary that is assigned and a TEDTALK of 200 word. Book is provided. No printing required. Lectures quick but unnecessary, work needed to pass is online. No late work.
For online, she requires two written papers based on a documentary, For the first paper, it took me more than two days to finish, i even had people proofread it . I put a lot of time and effort and was disappointed to earn a C on the paper. Your responses and essays need to be perfect to receive an A. Probably gonna ruin my 4.0, do no recommend.
I want everyone to experience how nice she is, never learned or related to a teacher like her I can't even describe it. Shes the reason I'm switching my major to Soc. She really is an amazing mom, women, and teacher. Please take her!Summer in class 2 papers 2 tests online, lots extra credit. Very understanding with attendance im a single mom & work
Amy Andrada is one of the greatest professors at AVC! If youre looking for a professor that is an educator first and your friend second, this is her! Her lectures and very interesting and interactive! The work load is very reasonable as well. She is a fair grader and will give you the feedback if you request it. I would take this class again!
Hard for all the wrong reasons, you are expected to do the homework for a chapter before the chapter is discussed in class, basically teaching yourself. I was constantly lost as things I didn't understand in the chapter hadn't been discussed yet, but when I attended the lecture and now understood it, I got dinged for late work. Bad teaching method.
Her CANVAS was a mess, with some of the information on the semester before-hand. Every week, there is a discussion with two responses and a quiz. She pretty much makes it impossible to get an A on any test, giving only thirty minutes for fifty questions. If you want to learn something, take a different teacher.
I had her for online and it was probably the most stressful class ever The tests she gives you there is a time limit and its a very short time limit for our midterms and finals if you dont study you probably wont Finish on time one thing that really got me is if you dont write your discussions how she wants it shell give you a bad grade
Didnt give you help when you would email her questions. Gave a short test time limit. She is not willing to work out anything with you and barely gives help.
lack of help. waste of time
The midterm is incredibly hard, and sometimes in the weekly discussions it can be hard to comment on others responses because of the questions provided.
She is amazing and really enjoys what she does. She uses a lot of profanity but i didnt mind it. She is relateable and just an overall really cool professor. I am minoring in Sociology because of her.
took her in winter, way too much reading and documentaries to watch in such a short amount of time. her exams are timed and really difficult, wanting you to name what chapters quotes are from and so forth. Understanding about late assignments, but often not easy to talk to. Harsh grader, wants her discussions a very specific way. wouldnt take again
Definitely not the best Professor! Do not ask a lot of questions, because she seems to not want to answer. She can be rude and condescending. Be sure to do your discussions and respond to 2 classmates. If not you will not pass. This class is extremely Easy to get an A, but she makes it hard for no reason. Good luck! Do the work and you will pass!
Keep your head down and don't engage with her. Don't even look at her in the eye, sit in the back. She baits people for controversy and then disagrees. If you disagree with her your grade goes down. She's a mess, very tacky, not refined, likes to fight, immature, I'm surprised she is in higher education. AGREE with her or she'll dock points.
Shes overall a good teacher, but her grading makes no sense sometimes.. The timing on the test that just needs to go away because it becomes more stressful. The discussions are way too long. She expects a lot from you but then grades your assignments low bc you didnt add a period. She take forever to email you back. Shes okay
Professor Andrada is excellent! She's very well-spoken and makes learning about Sociology interesting and exciting. Her lectures are thorough and the assigned homework fits in with the materials provided. You do have to be active in discussions throughout the week but it's easy to get in that groove. Highly recommend if you're ready to learn!
This professor is just the worst. The amount of profanity is unprofessional. She's not helpful at all and can be VERY condescending and RUDE. It's hard to get a hold of her for help, but I know she responds to other classmates (mostly the ones that kiss her a**). This is an easy enough class, and she makes it harder than it should be. Ridiculous.
I took this class over the summer online. The rubric is very clear, and all the assignments are relevant to the topic. Professor Andrada is very educated in her field and brings topics that are very relevant to everyday life. There were weekly discussions, weekly quizzes, and a final 5-page paper. I would 100% recommend taking her class.
My class was fully online (Ded) and she assigned a 5 question quiz with a 5 minute timer and a Ted Talk discussion Board every week. You need to constantly stay on top of things or your grade will go down since she has strict guidelines for her discussion boards. There's a research paper due at the end relating to a film and a midterm quiz.
just good luck
I wish I would have seen the reviews on her before taking the class. Too much work and reading per a week. Quizzes (5 min timed) & midterm (75 min) & final (90 min) are timed & you can't skip them & come back so if you don't know the answer, just guess. The study guide provided for both do little to help you prepare. Very unorganized. Don't take.
if you take her online class and she has you read a book called dead white men and other important people immediately buy the book online no where had the books physical copy and she uses it for most of your assignments and this years mid term. she has the midterm and final questions about some things we didnt even talk about or learn online. :(
Way too much work and not considerate of students time outside of class.
Professor Andrada was such a fun professor. She is relatable and understands that sometimes life gets in the way. As long as you participate and communicate with her, there's no reason you won't do well in her class. She is really funny so if you're looking for a SOC class that isn't too serious all of the time, she's your lady!
assigned an assignment before the first day of class that was due before the first day of class
Amazing teacher and great lectures. Yes, there is a lot of homework and work to do in the course but don't feel it is too overwhelming and it fair.
She is a very fair professor. She gives a good amount of extra credit. and there is a LOT of reading. but its not bad if you make sure you DO NOT LET IT PILE UP!! and if you just keep track of your work you will be fine. she is not strict on the only essay and she will most likely give you a good grade as long as you try to follow the guidelines.
She is incredibly clear on when the assignments are do. She has preperation videos to help prepare you for the assignments, and if you are confused on any of the material she is more than happy to elaborate. I would recommend you take her if you like consistency in assignments. Overall great professor!
Professor Andrada is a great instructor. She gives you a very clear rubric for grading, and if you just sit and do the work, you will pass the class. She is very helpful when you have questions or don't understand something. She will take the time to help you out. Professor Andrada's teaching style makes the class fun and entertaining.
This class was well structured and informative. As long as you pay attention and do the online work you will learn. Only criticism is being out into groups
This class has a good amount of work for a 101 in my opinion, but it's consistent every week as in, you know what you get every week. There's a lot of writing for the book assignments but the discussions are pretty straight forward. Honestly just pay attention and do the work and you'll be fine and she cares about her students too.
Dr. Andrada gives impressive lectures and is open to listening to everyone's opinion. She also cares for her students and gives extra help to those who need it. This class has weekly assignments, but she'll guide you through them. She gives a study guide for exams and pre-recorded lectures, which is helpful.
She is passionate about sociology and makes it very informative. You need to stay on top of the weekly assignments!
I recommend Professor Andrada - she makes even the most difficult concepts easy to understand. Her workload is reasonable, but it's important to complete assignments on time. Professor Andrada is always available to answer questions and takes the time to provide thorough explanations. She's an excellent teacher, nice, supportive, and encouraging.
She is really amazing and passionate about the lectures. She helps you understand every concept if you're having trouble. As long as you pay attention, do the work, and turn it in on time you will be fine.
Dr. Andrada is a great professor and super passionate! I enjoyed the class a lot. Lectures are super engaging and interesting. Work load is pretty generous, but necessary to work through the topics.. do it as soon as you can cause it can be easy to fall behind and hard to catch up! Professor offers extra credit and others to help through the course
I enjoyed this class. Although there are a lot of assignments, they are fairly easy to complete. Dr. Andrada also has study sessions and tutors on campus if you need any help, and she offers extra credit! If you want to take an Into to Soc class, (and want to actually learn something) take hers. She is very knowledgable and helpful.
By far the worst online teacher I've had at AVC Discussion posts are minimum 250 words each w/ multiple parts. If you fail to meet ALL requirements you get no credit. Unreasonable amount of work. Not truly a flexible online class if you have a job Tests have mandatory time frames midday only open 90 mins Confusing to follow and unclear directions.
Remember you are paying for someone to help you.professor Amy is not the person for this. too busy chasing fame on tik tok and Instagram. Glad I dropped this class as soon as I saw the red flags
The overall structure of the course is absolutely ridiculous for a level 101. I understand the class is condensed but even so, I've taken such courses from universities and have never had this amount of work load for such a beginner course.
Took was a shortened class, but the workload was an insane amount.
She graded super harshly and for most things, she just shugs people off and sends them to her tutor who really doesn't know much about the course and gives decent advice but not real answers or help. I only took it because I needed it and the sad part shes basically the only teacher for sociology.
There is a lot of work for a 101 class. Her assignments have nothing to do with the lecture.
Please look at the bad reviews for this professor, her workload is insane, you have 1 hour for 50 plus questions in the midterm and the final exam, it almost seems that she wants her students to suffer and that what its like taking this course. I worn all of you this will be a class to remember but not in a good way.
Shes super passionate, and shes not a bad teacher but her work load is insane and unfortunately for AVC shes one of the only teachers for most sociology courses so you have no other choice, just make sure you understand her class alone can easily have 4+ full assignments per week and her test are timed with very little time tbh.
Shes a good teacher, her problem is the work load its crazy 4+ assignments per week, its nearly impossible. She does try to help kinda but also sends alot of people to her tutor which is very little help. Be aware her testing is timed and she doesnt really give enough time, only sociology teacher, i had a 4.0 before taking her classes.. good luck
just know that when you take her class, testing on how to use the syllabus, canvas, where to go for things, getting an email back from he library are all part of your grade... and trust me.. you deal with a lot of this garbage testing included in the class, we should not be graded on where to find anything, we should only be graded on class work.
This class is accelerated, and it is a lot of reading. She is very understanding and tells you everything how it is from the work to grading. Don't be afraid to shoot her an email about anything because she is very nice and will email you back! Have good time management and read all modules(don't skip around) to understand all work and you'll pass!
Extremely invested in her class, which is good. However her work load is crazy. Makes it difficult to finish assignments with her guidelines. Is a nitpick about everything! Will negatively affect grade if she doesn't like what you wrote down. Her class is not hard it is simply a lot of work to do.
Awful! Run away, don't walk!! Trust me you'll thank me later
Workload is heavy, but professor offers helpful study sessions and extra credit opportunities. Using Unstuck ai along with the textbook can make this manageable. Take advantage of campus resources to succeed.
EXTREMELY difficult grader. She will nitpick every single word you write, down to the grammar and punctuation. If writing is not your strong suit, don't take her. She will fail your assignment even if you submit it because she does not like how you word things. Also very heavy on assignments.
I regret taking this class. I chose it based on the high reviews at the time, which are so mixed that I wonder if she wrote them herself. Any other professor would be a better option than this one. If you read each review, you'll see that many people are advising others to run, and you should definitely take their advice.
I would never ever take this professor AVC really needs to look into her. She doesn't want nobody to pass her class at all. If you ask her about a grade you got she won't answer you she will refer you to one of clips which is joke. She is a tough grader. She do not help students. Run do not take her for anything you will regret it. Not a good
As a straight A student, this professor gave me my first B. EXTREMELY difficult to satisfy her needs on assignments, she WILL find the smallest thing to mark you for. DO NOT take this class for intercession. Included a month's workload in a week, and I burned out. Her canvas page is also excessively packed with useless info, it was hard to navigate
I regret not reading the reviews about her earlier; she DOES NOT answer emails. Every test she gives out WILL be timed. She nitpicks everything from the grammar to the punctuation. If you end up taking this course, good luck!
Too much work lecture was very long
Horrific experience 0/10 do not recommend, she is very extra with the work like this is a sociology class, not an English class. Not even my English professors are that picky with the grammar... Also the coursework is too much for a 101 class.
If you want to be exhausted and drained mentally and emotionally take her. The workload is ridiculous for a 101 course. She hardly answers any emails, and when she answers, she is rude and not helpful. Tests are timed and proctored despite being in an online class.
0/10 do not recommend, she is very rude, barely answers email, she will grade any essay as ai When it is not Ai, strict grader, now i have to re do this class is summer, waste of time, avoid this teacher , you will be stressed, exhausted and even more, her class is very hard to pass
this professor is so rude, avoid her , class is very hard to pass she grades essay as if she's an english teacher.
WARNING Do not take this professor. She doesn't care for her students. She states if you need a recommendation letter she will only if you get a A in her class. It's a lie she won't. Avc Dean also sociology deans need to do better with their teachers. Because some don't care for students or students disability. Sociology teachers aren't good here.
I did not enjoy my experience in this course and felt disappointed with my final grade. I received a D, and although I recognize that grades reflect performance, the assignments were often unclear and the grading felt extremely harsh. If you take this class, prepare to be perfect because even small mistakes are graded very strictly.
I earned an A in Sociology 116 with this professor and took her again for 112 and 115. During that time, I faced personal challenges but chose to continue. Despite my effort, I got a D in both—just one point from a C. She assigns heavy workloads and sometimes makes it feel like your best effort isn't enough.

Crams too much into her classes, as if we don't have other classes with heavy workloads, found her to be boring and trying too hard to relate to students, couldn't stand watching her lectures
