if you can't get in her class, go to her lectures & help sessions! shes amazing
THE best math prof at A&M for those who suck at math. The tests are just hard, but she'll actually teach you the stuff so you can get by.
best math prof at a&m. teaches all you need to do good on the test.
Best Calculus prof. Get in her classes or go to her lectures and calculus will be super easy to understand
i attend only her review sessions...she's awesome....the best thing that has happened to a&m math.
coool prof..so easy going..n explains each an every detail!
Very helpful for freshmen engineering majors. Take her if you can get into her class.
One of my favorite teachers... Wondering if she still has her cat, Lucy...

Many students appreciate her step-by-step teaching style, but I found it difficult to learn math through only examples. I didn't truly understand the concepts we were learning in class, instead only how to do problems. This made it difficult for me to do well on tests with problems I had never seen before.
Great Teacher, and I messed up by not doing the easy homework assignments. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!
:) great prof, hard to get a class with her, they fill up fast
Great professor, always willing to answer as many questions as possible. She does teach very fast but she offers tutoring sessions that go over what we do in class that slow it down a lot. Over all she is the greatest Math professor but her classes fill up fast. Also always do the homework!!!!!!!
She was very helpful during office hours and very nice to talk to. I had trouble during class staying focused for the hour and 15 minutes. Compared to a sub that taught one class, she didn't explain what she was doing as well, but she would answer any questions askes. She will call anyone out for talking or cell phone use during class.
Amy is seriously the best teacher you can ever get, well if you can even get a class with her. They fill up quick! She will prepare you for the exam, which she makes. Its not to hard to make an A. Just do your work and go to class. She's very helpful in office hours!
She is one of the best math teachers. Super helpful and easy to understand. Try to get her as a teacher if you can!!
Amy Austin is bae :) She is literally the best teacher you can have in college: she explains everything so well and in steps to where you understand how to do everything. Not only that, but she makes the common exams, so if you take her class then you will do very well on the tests. Her classes fill up fast! I would do anything to take her again!!
I have no clue as to why her rating is so high. She is competent but she always messes up when taking notes (but is corrected) and she knows her stuff so well since she is tenured that she flies through the notes at 100 mph. If you ask her a question she will spit the answer back and keep it moving, and she is kind of rude, take JD Kim.
Amy really wants you to learn the material. She is willing to explain something multiple ways if a student doesn't understand it and she will work with you in her office hours to make sure that you understand how to do problems and not just how to finish the homework.
BEST MATH PROFESSOR HERE! DO ANYTHING TO HAVE HER!
She makes a lot of mistakes and is not really able to explain the material because she is constantly making small mistakes on the notes. It seems as if she is never prepared for class. She is even sometimes rude to students who try and correct her or ask questions. At least she grades things fairly.
She is an amazing professor. She explains everything in detail and posts all notes online.(Just Google Amy Austin math 151). Soon before exams she goes over a practice exam that is really similar to the real test. There is a quiz every week but she posts online what is going to be about. There is a lot of homework but she will help in office hours.
Austin is the best!! Her lectures are extremely simple, and makes calculus very easy to understand. She posts her notes online so you can skip, but sitting in her class will get you a better chance for an A. Practice tests are similar to the real tests. She will talk to you if you need help. Overall, an awesome teacher, TAKE HER IF YOU CAN!!
She is overall a great professor. She teaches clearly, and her office hours are convenient and laid back and she will make sure you end up understanding! I'm so glad to be taking her again for MATH 152!
I lucked out getting Professor Austin! She is widely known as the best (math) professor on campus and I believe it. Other professor's students would come to her office hours and her lectures. She writes the tests, so whatever she teaches is what you need to know. Her notes are online, completed and not I have her again in the Spring for 152
If you get the chance to her DO IT!! She is well-known and is highly respected. She explains concepts very well and makes the harder concepts seem not so hard. She has a very clear way of taking notes and posts them online. She writes the test and holds review sessions the class before the test. She is definitely the best prof I have ever taken
I 3 Amy! She is widely known as one of the best profs on campus and if you take her class you'll understand. She explains everything so well and cares whether you actually learn the material! She writes the common exams so don't you think it would help if you are in her class :P Also get to know her, she is an amazing person with a great story!
I had Amy Austin for Math 151 and 152 and there's a reason for that. Her lectures are crystal clear and an amazing teacher. Also, she writes the common exams and they are quite fair. The secret to doing well is going to all the classes, doing the WebAssigns and taking the practice tests on her website. If you do that, you'll do fine at the least.
She is a very good prof, and very good at making the material clear. Her class scores very high on the common exams, but is very competitive when it comes to final grades. She posts both blank and completed notes online, and does a review before every exam.
Remember in middle school when you had math worksheets and it was great, its like that. She posts the notes online before class and you bring them and then do them together. She makes math easy again somehow. Will explain in multiple ways if needed. Lecture is optional b/c she posts completed notes online, but everyone likes her, so we all go.
Amy Austin's first-semester teaching calculus 3 (Fall 2016) was not very beneficial to me and I would not recommend taking her for calc 3 in the near future. I do have faith that she will improve from now though. Unfortunately She does not teach math in a way that you can use outside of her class. Tests are pretty much just memorization.
If you can get a seat in her class take it. She's the best professor I've ever had. Study her lecture notes and WebAssign problems and you'll be perfectly fine.
She is the best math professor you could have. She posts her notes online, and they're extraordinary, I've even used her past notes to ace Calc I and II when I had different prof. Her tests are very fair and easy, they basically come from the notes, they're all you need, no tricks. Everything she teaches is clear, concise, and she is there for you.
Amy Austin's lectures are great, she has the lecture hand out ready for you to print before class. Make sure to attend lecture or else you might get lost. She posts also the completed notes online. Her tests are hard but if you do the homework it should not be that bad.
Amy Austin is awesome! If she's available for any class, take her! She provides fill-in-the-blank notes with many examples. The problems on the notes mirror the problems on the homework which mirror the problems on the tests. She's fun and the tests are easy. Highly recommend!
Amy Austin is great teacher, she post notes online, and she makes sure everyone knows the material. She is very helpful if you ever have a question, and is one my favorite professor.
Dr. Austin is the best professor I have had so far at A&M. She is kind and an amazing teacher. She provides blank notes that you fill in during class, and posts her notes key online in case you miss a class. Her exams are hard but fair. If you show up to class and go over your notes for the exam, you'll be fine. I highly recommend her!!
The lectures were great and you can print out the notes
Amy Austin is honestly one of the best professors you can have. She is nice, caring, understanding, and is willing to help you succeed every way she can. The lectures are extremely informative and her tests are extremely fair, reasonable, and without any tricks. If you go to class, fill out the notes, and study what she tells you to, its an easy A.
Amazing professor. Always willing to help. Her tests are similar year to year and she always lets you see the test before. I would take her again.
Amy Austin was by far the best math professor I have had since coming to Texas A&M. She really cares about all of her students & has a passion for math. If you go to lecture & put in some effort, you can succeed in her class. She doesn't try to trick you on the test study what she tells you to & you'll be fine. I would take her again!
Austin makes it very easy to finish her class with an A. In her lectures she makes a few mistakes so just make sure you are following along; in a way, it's her way of testing your knowledge lol. She is very approachable and lenient when it comes to grading. Tests get harder near the end of the semester, so make sure to start off well.
Amazing teacher. Lectures are crystal clear and the tests are very reasonable and straightforward. She doesn't try to trick you, just do the practice problems and the homework and you'll get an A. She's also really sweet and cares for her students, if you have any questions don't hesitate in asking, she will help you a lot.
Really good teacher! She saved my math. You will get an A by working hard.
Professor Austin is a skilled teacher. She is very down to earth and makes understanding the topics of calculus 3 a breeze. She gives you all the tools you need to ace her classes and I would recommend her to anyone. Crystal clear communication of where the class is and what is due through her personal website. Take Amy.
Amy Austin explains math, at any level, in an understandable way. She is an excellent communicator using that to her advantage in making hard problems seem easy. Best math professor I've had so far.
Great notes.
Amy Austin is a very sweet and kind professor. She cares a lot, but she definitely spoon feeds her class. She oversimplifies all the topics and makes her tests much easier than the other professors, so an A is almost guaranteed. Wonderful lady, but if you want to learn, take someone else.
Amazing professor for Cal 3. Tests are straight forward, no tricky questions. However she will throw some problems in there that will make you think, but nothing that you have never seen before. I did the homework, re-read the notes, and did the suggested textbook problems and did very well. 10/10
In my opinion, she is overhyped. I had a different professor for MATH 151 and I think I might have done better had I taken them for 152 as well. She's a good teacher, but she's not a god like most people make her out to be. Also doesn't use a microphone in a massive lecture hall which would be okay, but she doesn't project her voice very well.
This prof is great. I love her and want her to adopt me. She teaches amazingly and simply. She does mess up during lectures when it comes to simple calculus, but it keeps you on your toes. Her tests are relatively easy, and if you talk with her, she will definitely be understanding. Amazing woman, take her if you can
She's a great teacher. Willing to explain anything your stuck on in office hours. Exams are fair. Class is not hard if you seek out help when you need it and if you stay on top of the work. She's a great prof.
Great lecturer. She has a website on which she posts all her note packets that you fill in during class and posts them once completed. MATH 152 is a hard class but she makes it easy. The tests are difficult but since she and another professor make them, you'll be well prepared for them. Her packets cover many useful and difficult examples.
I don't have anything to say about Dr. Austin that hasn't been said before. She is absolutely FANTASTIC. Extremely clear in lecture, and very caring if you have questions about any concepts. However, I will say this: Cal 2 is what you make of it. I personally found it a bit easier than Cal 1, but it can be extremely challenging if you don't study.
best professor at Texas A&M hands down, she make Calculus 3 seem so easy. Just make sure you do your homework and understand it, then you are guaranteed an A. Also go to her office hours, it is extremely helpful. Felt like a genius in that class.
Everything you've heard about her is true. She is the best math prof here. Her lectures are so clear, and she really takes the time and effort to make sure everyone understands the material in class. She has great office hours, is super sweet, and genuinely cares about your learning. She is a true angel. Take her if you want to learn and do well.
She is so nice and helpful, she really cares about her students and she will help you if you reach out to her. She has hundreds of students, but she makes a solid effort to remember and talk to her students. People like her give me hope in humanity. Also she's really smart and funny and an amazing lecturer.
She really cares about her students and is very willing to help. Her lectures were very helpful and taught the material in a very effective way. The class is tough, but doable. The work is just in a very wide variety of material. Overall, she is definitely the best professor for this course.
Amy Austin is a wonderful person and a great professor! Math 152 is a difficult class and has common exams so its up to you to study if you want to make an A in the class. Amy Austin gives you all the resources you need to make at least a B in this class, and her lectures are amazing. She is the best professor I have had so far!
Amy is a wonderful prof and her lectures are very well structured. Everything is laid out clearly for you to follow along and learning the concepts is easy. Each test alone is not too bad in terms of material but putting everything together for the final makes you realize all the memorization, but her reviews help you get through it without stress.
Don't be mistaken, 152 is a difficult course, but Amy is the best professor by far. She is extremely fair with her expectations and although the material is challenging, she will help you anyway she can. The course consists of matlab, quizzes, and homework as well as exams. So, there is plenty of buffer from the homework, quizzes, and matlab.
Amazing professor who explained math in detail and in a fun way. She genuinely cares about her students and is easy to get in touch with outside of class. Personally the only part I struggled with were her weekly quizzes because they were moderate questions over topics we just learned. Calc 2 is hard either way but she is the best you can take!
Dr. Austin is one of the best professors I've had so far. Super caring and actually teaches you the material. Accessible outside of class, during office hours, which was twice a week. There's weekly homework and quizzes, but they aren't too bad and act as good mock questions for the exams. Highly recommend!
Amy is the best prof I have had at Texas A&M. She does an incredible job explaining the difficult concepts, and is very understanding. Her office hours are super helpful, and she is very willing and patient when answering questions. I understood MATH 152 well because of her.
Amy Austin is the best math professor. She really cares that her students do well. She teaches the topics thoroughly and posts all her lecture notes online so you can have them later. It is still important to go to class to fully understand. Makes reviews for each test and is accessible outside of class.
I wish there were more professors like her in Texas A&M. There is a reason why she is always in demand and its difficult to get into her sections. The math department needs to realize this and bring more teachers like her in the department because they have some teachers who are detrimental to students' learning.
By far the best math prof at A&M. organized notes, easy to follow along to, the classes she teaches are hard but shes the best prof to have
Amy is arguably the best math teacher like... ever. She posts her notes after lecture so you dont NECESSARILY have to attend, but I highly recommend it. Theres online homework as well as suggested problems. Shes always willing to explain things differently and is highly accessible.
Id take again, shes organized and a good professor. Dont expect for her to bend over backwards for you or bend rules, but she will help you. Best prof for 152.
Professor Austin has been awesome for Calculus 3. The concepts aren't exactly simple, but her notes make it them easier to understand. Her office hours are very helpful as well. Very clear about what will be on tests.
One of the best professors I've had at A&M. Easy to follow lectures and she prepares you well for the tests.
I highly recommend Amy Austin for any math class! Calc 3 was a hard class for me but Amy Austin made it so much easier to do well. Her lectures make a lot of sense and her tests are very similar to her class notes. There is no reason you shouldnt get an A in her class!
Austin and Shrader are the best profs for math 152. Do not skip class.
Austin creates notes that can be printed outside of class or pulled up on a tablet that allow students to learn many examples in a short amount of time, and also creates very neat notes. She is definitely accessible outside of class, as I practically lived in her office hours! Do your hw in her office hours! She will help you if you need it :)
She is a clear lecturer and it is important to go there if you don't remember calc 2 from high school that well. The lab assignments are a bit tedious, but overall the class isn't greatly difficult.
AMAZING professor. One of the best math profs at tamu. Her notes are amazing and super easy to study with, and her lectures are great too. I would take her for cal 2 and cal 3 if possible!
Amy Austin is a really great professor, and she's probably the best you'll get for MATH 152. It's a difficult math class already but she makes it not so bad. She really cares about her students and she's very approachable. Also, go to her Week-in-Reviews; they help so much.
You're lucky if you got Amy Austin
Excellent professor. She explains material very clearly and frequently comes up with fun ways to remember important concepts. She is very accessible outside of class, and is always willing to explain difficult material. She makes a potentially intimidating class fun and exciting.
Amy is the only reason that I ever stood a chance of passing. She could teach a rock how to do calculus. She is caring and wants to see everyone succeed, she makes a point to know the names of everyone in her 300+ person class. She makes calculus less scary. Her lectures are clear and easy to understand and she is VERY helpful in her office hours.
Amy Austin is great for students that just want to class the pass and get an A, however if you are looking to gain a deeper understanding of the course material, I would recommend another prof. Amy spends most of her lecture time working through simple examples; very nice and caring; easy A, won't learn much past the minimum though
Amy is a very kind professor. She does her best in lectures to go over as many examples as possible and as many types of examples as possible. My two issues with Amy: she does not drill the concept behind certain things, but just gives a formula. Second, the expects students to print her blank notes before class to fill in during class.
Super sweet lady. Clearly explains material. Lectures not boring. Easy to confront to talk to. If you get the opportunity to have her as a professor, I would take it.
I think she's a great professor but she does go really fast in class because there's soo much information to cover. There's also a lot of homework so you do get lots of practice before the exams. There are random quizzes at the end of some classes that she expects you to answer in like 3 minutes. There's lots of help outside of class too.
Amy made a hard class like calculus 3 doable. It was obvious all semester that she cared about her students and wanted us to succeed. The material is tough, so go to class and pay good attention, and you should do fine. The fact that covid-19 forced us online is where my grade went wrong, but that was not Amys fault. She was great about emailing!
Austin is almost universally understood to be the best math prof at TAMU. I was delighted to discover that I got her when they released professors. I had taken 251 before and dropped, so I knew what to expect for cal 3 already. She made it orders of magnitude easier to understand. The trick is in her lectures. She just makes it click. Good bull!
Great prof for 251. The first 2 units are pretty easy, but the last two require lots of work. She gives so many resources for tests and always answers questions. For tests review the homework and practice tests.
Professor Austin is a nice teacher and knows the material well. She obviously cares a lot about her students succeeding and is willing to help. However, I found her lectures pretty boring. She is good at explaining, but sometimes it was hard for me to pay attention.
He is an amazing teacher she explains concepts well. The only thing that is hard is the free responses consider she is very harsh on small mistakes. Other then that she makes you work to learn for this class.
Professor Austin is an awesome professor. In an online format, she does record her lectures and posts them ahead of time; you're expected to watch them on your own time. I will say that they are very long and tedious to do however, they are very informative. I felt well prepared for exams because of them and all of the homework!
Dr. Austin is an absolute gem! She's dedicated to helping us succeed! She replies to emails super fast, & she does the MLC sessions which are extremely helpful. She will explain things multiple times if you ask her. However, you will have to work for an A, the class is lecture heavy (you will spend about 3 hrs each week watching lecture videos).
One of the best math professors in the department. If you get the chance to take her, take her!! She responds to emails super fast, and you could tell that she wants the best for her student. Make sure to attend her lectures or watch her lecture videos because that alone will help you significantly.
Class is hard, but the MLC is there to help. Attend the weekly reviews she hosts. Watch the recorded lectures. Lectures are very long, but taking notes and understanding everything is very important. She really cares and if you ask a question she generally answers very transparently. My favorite math teacher of all time! Math IS possible with her.
Absolutely love Dr. Austin. She is truly the best. I didn't do too well at first but her office hours, WIR and MLC helped me to get an A. Calc 3 was tough but she made it manageable. Make sure to do your hw, assignments, and attend classes since that's how you will stand out and be on top of your class. Consider yourself lucky to have her.
Austin is the best math prof I have taken here at A&M. She cares about the student's success and makes Cal 3 feel easier than the previous calculus classes. The lectures can be pretty long but if you hang tight it will be worth your time. Test wise it is pretty fair and easier than many of the other professors. She is awesome!!!!
Professor Austin has extremely clear and coherent lectures. Her teaching style is extremely intuitive and she lets you know exactly what she expects you to know on the exams. Her exams are basically the same as the problems done in class and on the homework.
I bought into the hype and took her. She is pretty good, probably better than most of the other options. I wasn't a fan of the way she did her online class. She used class time for quizzes and such and made us do lectures outside. This combined with webassign created an insane amount of hw. For me, calc is still challenging no matter who teaches.
Professor Austin has been a great teacher. You can always reach her on the GroupMe as she is extremely active when students need help. The energy in this class was great and so was the professor! She is pretty lenient if you're a good class and will sometimes push back hw deadlines.
Dr. Austin is a really good professor. I didn't take MATH 152 but I had to study only a few hours a week in her class to do well. Overall a fair grader and a really good professor (love her teaching style!). However, the format of her online class felt like a waste of time when going to lectures since lecture time was used to ask questions.
Loved her! She was super nice, responded to emails and messages quickly, and moved due dates back if we expressed concern. She really knows what shes doing and theres no big surprises on her tests if you do your homework on your own and follow along with her practice problems.
I get the hype. Very straightforward class because her lectures, quizzes, and activities all contain the exact same style of questions she asks on the exams. Only had one lecture per week and made us watch lecture vids outside of class. Her lecture vids can be very long though. Very solid choice, made calc 3 very understandable and easy.
Amy Austin was the best math professor I've had at TAMU. She was a part of our groupme for the class and answered EVERY question that came across that chat. Very kind and also pretty engaging in lectures. Generally the kind of prof you want to have. If you can, get her!
Shes ones of the best. She will help you whenever needed and her lectures are super easy to understand. def one of the best math professors I have ever had and I highly recommend taking her for MATH 251
Easily the best prof I've had, very in touch with her students and willing to help. She made a GroupMe with all of her students and she was very responsive to questions. For online she would send us multiple long lecture videos to watch each week (sometimes like 4 hours of material to watch for a week). Exams are similar to class examples and HW
Professor Austin is probably one of the best professor in the math department. She is accessible outside class times through multiple platforms (mainly emails and groupme). Definitely go to class if you want an extremely easy time with the materials and don't be afraid to ask questions because she will make sure that you understand the content.
She is an amazing teacher, and is very accessible in and outside of class. She is eager to help. The subject itself is pretty difficult, but her way of teaching makes it manageable. You will be doing a good amount of homework, but it helps prepare you for the tests.
Probably the best math professor I have ever had. She is so clear with her assignments and the class is super organized. I actually enjoyed watching lectures and doing my hw. She answers every question you have and is super nice. 10/10 couldn't be better tbh
Professor Amy made a pretty dense course super easy to digest, she is extremely organized and is always happy to help if you reach out. The homework/tests/exams can get hard but it's never not doable, things do get tense towards the end with some of the harder stuff but she will make you pull through as long as you focus.
She is hilarious, respectful, and caring. The class was tough, but she made it feel understandable. She grades more on what you did than just an answer itself. Love her!!!
If you are worried about math... TAKE PROF AUSTIN!!! Her lectures are so clear and easy to follow her line of reasoning behind problems, she is constantly available outside of class, she communicates well with her TA's. I loved this prof so much I am taking her again for MATH 152. Show up to lecture, do your homework, ask your questions.
Hard class, best professor
Prof Austin is amazing. She had a GroupMe for her MATH151 sections and was very accessible outside class; she would always respond to GroupMe messages within 15 minutes. She really cares about her students and is great at explaining difficult concepts.
Professor Austin is truly an amazing professor. She is a great math teacher and really knows her stuff, but she is also very caring and wants to know each of her students. Every single person that I know that has taken her has loved her. She is always willing to help and wants all of her students to succeed. I would definitely recommend taking her!
AMAZING professor. Truly understands how to teach Calculus, and is a stickler for the rules that will matter later. Great job of fostering conceptual understanding, and providing ample balance lecture and practice. Her exams are always exactly what you saw in class, so go to class. She grades fairly and she's awesome. Go take professor Austin now.
Fantastic professor. The lectures were super clear. She was personable in class, and willing to help outside of class. The quizzes and test are reasonable - if you keep up with the lectures and the weekly quizzes, you'll do great on the test. 10/10, highly recommend for anyone taking Math 151
I really do not understand how professor Austin is so popular. She is probably the most strict out of all the calc 2 professors. Writes the toughest quizzes. She constantly makes mistakes during lectures and students have to correct her. She does not record lectures and her notes are very hard to follow. Overall, I do not recommend at all.
Ms. Austin is the best STEM professor that I've had in the time that I've been at Texas A&M. She is caring, she is incredibly accessible outside of class and she genuinely wants her students to succeed. She understands that this class is challenging and gives students as much help as they want. She is the kind of professor you want to do well for.
Prof. Austin is one of the best math professor at A&M, yes she sometimes doesn't finish the lecture, but that is because the contents of the class, not her fault. You have to study hard like any other math class, go to office hours when you need to and you will be fine.
Prof Austin is the definition of overrated. Lectures are a complete utter mess, can tell that no effort or intention was put into class preparation, every single lecture was super rushed, down-to-earth lady tho.
Professor Austin is a very good professor. She teaches at a slow pace and tries to make sure to highlight and enforce the important concepts in the class. Sometimes that pace can cause her to run late on many lectures which will make her rush through important information. She is great to go to for office hours and extra help.
Most difficult professor! Do not take if you want a good grade. Always gets behind in lecture and never finishes teaching. She skips over half the notes due to lack of time. She is unprepared as she constantly makes mistakes during lecture. Quizzes were graded unreasonably harsh. you could get a mc question right and lose points on your quizzes .
Do not choose her for next semester, she is not worth your time. Id recommend todd shrater, he knows how to teach and provide reasonable explanations to each unit.
I didn't go to enough class to know much about Austin, but I like her openness to available materials. She puts out a review sheet with key points for each exam, and makes practice tests aside from the common exams. She uploads completed notes, albeit you won't understand them if you skip like I do. Very nice lady, standard exams and HW.
Don't really understand the complaints about her on here. She is awesome. These people say her lectures are "slow" because she teaches at a pace that ensures everyone understands it! Trust me you will not regret taking her!!! I sometimes need help on my homework at midnight and she responds fairly quickly when I reach out. Best math professor ever
She was awesome! Everyone told me to be scared of Calculus 2, but I scored >95 on every exam because of her! Honestly, if you have the chance, take her. She makes hard topics easy to digest and understand. Her quizzes aren't hard (especially compared to Lockhart), and I feel like they give good feedback about what content you need to cover more.
Amy is one of the most caring profs I have had. I was so nervous for cal 2 since I had so many people tell me it was going to be so hard, but I was always able to go to her OH and work with her and she would always help. If you put in the effort for this class, it will be rewarded with the grade you want.
Coming into Calc2 thinking you are good at math is a terrible mentality to have. Be prepared to learn hard new concepts and be prepared to go to the MLC and office hours and you'll do fine! Great professor and very accessible outside class.
Professor Austin is a wonderful person. My only criticism is that she seemed slightly disorganized, and her lectures were often difficult to follow because she would go too slowly and then have to rush later (I think this is unique to this semester). If I hadn't been so lazy, I would have gotten an A, so take her if the best profs are taken.
152 was harder than Calc BC in high school and Professor Austin does a great job of teaching the ins and outs of calculus. She expects students to learn the material quickly so do homework and study for exams right away. Amy Austin is helpful during office hours but sometimes is disorganized which leads to rushed lectures. Overall great professor.
Amy Austin is an overall great professor. Her lectures are clear and help explain the material. However, whenever you ask a question about a topic, sometimes it is a hit or a miss whether that deeper explanation is all that helpful. Sometimes you just have to be satisfied with not understanding why something works.
GREAT lecturer and math communicator who really cares about your understanding. Clearly teaches everything that will be on the test, and if you do the past common exams, you have no excuse to not get an A. If you show up to lectures, study for the exams, you will get an A. Only complaint is occasional rushing through the ends of lectures.
Pretty good professor, very concise at explaining concepts and is engaging to listen to. If you have a question she will be happy to answer it. Working old exams helped me a lot this class
I took this course to fulfill my degree requirements, and I honestly hated this class. Her lectures were good but most of the time she'd do something without explaining how she'd get there, and it was just hard to follow overall. The TA's also graded heavily and if you miss just a few questions on the MC on exams, you're automatically at a B.
I felt like she went wayyy to slow. She would take the time to write and rewrite everything so most the class is just silence while you watch her write numbers. By April I was skipping every lecture and just watching a YouTube video on the chapter, and I was totally fine. Finished with a high A.
Amy Austin is definitely the best teacher I have ever had at A&M. She teaches a class of 300 but makes every effort to get to know each and every student. Her lectures are explained so clearly and prepared me for tests so well. Wish she could teach every class I ever took. Really made me love math.
Going into MATH 152 I was told that this was one of the hardest maths that A&M offers. Lowkey it was light. I did 5-7 practice exams before every exam and learned enough to make high A's on all exams. Follow the lectures and do the homework the same day to comprehend most of the material. Her quizzes were the worst part and MATLAB blows. Good Luck
Great Prof, taught very well, but often didn't have time for many questions right after class, which is tough if you can't always attend OH. In OH she is very helpful, and by far one of the clearest lecturers I've ever met. I do wish she recorded her lecture, because I personally learn math better being able to replay things. HARD material!!!!!!
Personally I thought she was overrated. She's a good professor and everything, but her lectures were not as good as I thought they would be. Other than that, she's' very nice and understanding with grades, projects, deadlines, etc.
I don't know why everyone likes her so much. She is an average professor in my eyes. She talks down to you and teaches slow enough that it feels like a high school class. If you like to be challenged and talk to like a college student, she's not for you.
Amy Austin does a phenomenal job communicating difficult concepts in a clear and concise manner. She is determined to help you grasp the material and wants you to be focused on learning instead of stressing about the grades. She requires a good amount of work out you, but in Calculus II that is a given.
I absolutely hate Calc which is probably why I did not do that well. Lectures were pretty standard but I never truly understood what was happening. Attempted the homework and attended SI sessions which helped more. The TA also graded really hard for the lab which dropped my grade.
She is an amazing professor but I was going through an extremely tough time during the semester so I had to Q drop as a result. If I were to take 152 again, I would like to get her again.
Has her own lecture notes and fills them out in class so don't skip class. Lectures are kinda boring I think it's her voice, makes Cal3 a whole lot easier than other profs. If you can, most definitely take her.
I had her for calc 3 and she was amazing, she is very caring and very fair when it comes to exams and grades. 10/10 would recommend to take her for any math class at A&M.
Although I had a little hiccup in MATH 152 with Professor Austin, I am definitely glad I took her a second time for MATH 251! She is very passionate about calculus, has one of if not the clearest notes in all of the math department, and cares for her students. My number one recommendation: do all of the Webassigns! They really helped me understand.
Amy is a good prof but her lectures are very monotonous and boring. She tends to make careless mistakes while teaching that distract the teaching and overall degrade the experience of being one of her students. She is a reasonable person, so long as no one makes her mad at the start of class, and is a fair grader. I heard she used to be better
Makes calc 3 very doable. Paying attention during lectures is key to understand the content.
I took Prof. Austin for calc 2 and calc 3 and it was the two best decisions I've made in college. She is by far the best prof I've had throughout college and understands that her students can't spend their entire day on just calculus. I would say, the easiest calc class I've taken is calc 3.
Amy is by far the best professor for 251. She is the course supervisor and regulates what the other professors can do. She does not have the easiest tests, but she gives practice tests of the same format. Make sure you go to her office hours if you can because she will show some favoritism. Also attend HOGU before exams for good hints.
Professor Austin is one of the best professors at Texas A&M. She gives great lectures that are easy to follow along and she posts an in depth completed versus of the notes on canvas. Go to her office hours, HOGU, and the math learning center for help it helped a lot and she explained throughly in office hours. She also gave practice exams.
I loved Professor Austin! One of my favorite profs ever. She is super caring and teaches the material really well. The exams are very similar to reviews, part multiple choice and part free response. Definitely take this prof!
I absolutely adored Professor Austin. Her lectures are well structured and she does so many practice problems. The exams are just like the reviews. I also went to HOGU which professor Austin organized and those sessions were super helpful. I would 100% recommend this prof.
Although attendance is not mandatory, I advise you that skipping her class is only hurting you. She is exceptionally knowledgeable and well versed in math, and can teach it to anyone in more ways than you can imagine. The class is hard as is, but she does a fantastic job of keeping her sections ahead. Highly recommend(I am taking her again for 251)
All homework is online. While 152 is a hard class Prof Austin teaches it in a way that is easy to understand with a lot of example problems. Lectures are not recorded but she posts the completed note pdfs. She is very easy to reach outside of class through office hours and tutoring. She is open to questions during class and communicates well.
Dr. Austin is a phenominal professor. Her lectures are the best way of learning the material (As all lecutres are supposed to be), and she makes all the difficult concepts of the dreaded MATH 152 as easy as possible. Very accesible outside of class & wants students to succeed. Take her at all costs.
You hit the jackpot if you get Prof.Austin. She is very caring and I loved her.TBH this class is mostly self study and practice, so I never really picked up anything from lecture. BUT she gave so many resources and answers to hogu which was very useful for exams. My friends asked me to send her materials because other prof just don't provide them.
While Math 152 is terrible, Prof. Austin is not! It's easy to see that she cares deeply about the education of her students, and provides plenty of material to make sure you know what is going on in class.
Amy Austin was very effective at teaching Math 152. While this is a difficult course of many, I found it pretty straightforward as the professor worked very hard to make sure students understand. She always motivated her students to attend the HOGU and Week-in-reviews. Throughout her lectures she always provided helpful strategies and techniques.
She explains topics that most may struggle with in a simplified and direct manner. She's caring, understanding, and puts lots of effort into teaching. She 100% deserves the 5/5 rating on here.
Professor Austin easily was the best prof/teacher I have been taught by throughout my academic career and made math 152 doable even with a historically hard class. I ended up with a comfortable B but felt I had to really work for it unlike math 151. She is by far the best 152 prof aka TAKE HER!!
She has great lectures and notes that are useful for exam prep. Hard exams imo. Be sure to do practice problems and not just reviewing notes. She is very accommodating for extra help and asking some questions.
Good professor. Very caring of her students and makes plenty of time outside of class to make sure they succeed. Would take again in a heartbeat.
She is an incredible professor. She makes so much time outside of class for her students and explains concepts very well. I had her for calc 2 and plan to take her again for calc 3. I was out of class for a week and unable to do much for another couple of weeks due to other circumstances, and she was very helpful with helping me keep up.
Amy Austin is great for calc two. The class itself is pretty tough at times, but is you attend the lectures and take notes you will be fine. She does make some errors while working out problems but usually notices and corrects herself. The final was a little bit more difficult than expected but was very doable.
Very cool professor, great at teaching. Excited to have her next semester as well.
This course was a coordinated course, meaning the content tested for was discussed among the faculty and course coordinator. Austin's lectures were very thorough but for some this could come across as slow. To study for exams, be sure to take lots of the past common exams. She genuinely cares about her students and their success in the course.
I took her for MATH 152 as well. She goes a little slowly, but it's ok. She is definitely one of the better profs, when comparing with what i have heard from friends. The math dept. usually drops some quizzes and HW, so she does that. The tests, which aren't common exams, were relatively easy, with similar difficulty to the common exams.
Pretty good lectures, SHE DOES NOT round up scores. Calc 2 is known to be one of the harder classes but attend lectures and her notes are amazing (not filled in, do them yourself for practice).
Professor Austin is an amazing prof and person. Yes, as others have mentioned, her lectures can be a bit slow, but I'd take her lectures every time over a professor who speeds through lectures and leaves no time for students to absorb the material. Exams are very fair. Very helpful office hours. She really cares about her students. Loved her.
Had her for CAL 2 and 3. Would absolutely recommend. Cares so much about your success even outside class. Cal 2 and 3 are lecture heavy so I would recommend being ready for class, even though attendance is not mandatory. She will stop class several times to explain a concept more if you do not understand. Really respectful and kind.
Had for 152 and again for 251. Very caring and helpful. Lectures at a good (bit slow) pace, posts complete notes, quizzes and exams are reasonable. Content is difficult but very accessible and willing to fix issues if you put in effort. Go to lecture, take notes, do HW, and study for quizzes and past exams and you can succeed.
Austin was a pretty good professor. Her notes are streamlined and easy to follow. The math department changed the exams a little bit to be a bit more difficult, but she does teach you everything you need to know. She tries to connect with her students and is also available through the class groupme.
Dr. Austin takes pride in how much more difficult her sections are, particularly in exams. Do yourself a favor and avoid this woman.
Her lectures and notes aligned with what was on the homework and quizzes and she gave ample study material before each exam both in and out of class. Exams are fine as long as you study. My only gripe was that she would sometimes rush through certain topics after going through others slowly, but her completed notes would always be posted on Canvas.
As long as you submit your homeworks/quizzes and study moderately well for the class, it should be pretty easy. Austin gives lots of practice exams and has very good lecture notes, but rushes things a lot in class. The course content is not terribly difficult.
I enjoyed Dr. Austin's class. I'm not very good at calculus in general, but Dr. Austin explained concepts well. However, she often rushes through the material and skips examples if she's behind schedule. She also wasn't very easy to reach outside of class, as she ignored my emails for days when I had questions about quizzes and homework.
W professor. Does lots of example problems in class. Tests are very fair and cover all the material taught
Amy Austin is an AMAZING prof, definitely take her class!!! Her lectures and examples are super helpful and you really get to understand the material. In addition, she's the "lead" prof for 251, so she sets the standard and you will be best set up for success in her class. Always take her if you have the option!
Somehow, Cal 2 was actually pretty easy under Austin. If you can get past having quizzes on Mondays (at 8am if your unlucky) she has plenty of office hours. You do need to understand exactly how to write your answers on exam frqs because the graders can be pretty picky.
Really cares about her students succeeding. Responds to emails, even in the middle of the night, very quickly and with very helpful answers. Quizzes were always reasonable, and she constantly rearranged deadlines to keep people on track without being overwhelming. Really great professor, makes this class a million times better.
Really sweet and genuinely helps her students out. It is an engineering course so expect it to be hard, the exams are written by the department is kind of unfair but she really cannot do much about that. Her final was amazing, and she really does teach, but runs out of time in class since she answers questions and goes in detail in lecture
I really cannot speak for Mrs. Austin's teaching because this was my second time taking Cal 2 so it was fairly easy for me, but she is just such a nice lady.
Goated professor. Lectures were very clear and helpful, quick responses. Grading on frqs was a bit picky.
Goat of math 152, common exams were kinda wack but the final was extremely fair, and extremely easy to do well on.
Maybe the best calculus professor on this campus. I came into TAMU with ZERO calculus knowledge, but her resources make this class doable. The material is tough, but she's very accessible out of class (office hours ~2x a week, easily reachable by email, etc.) and is more than willing to explain concepts one on one.
She is a good teacher and an entertaining lecturer, attendance is not mandatory but going to class is necessary to get an A even if you've already taken calc 2 because of niche details that will be on exams (goes for all profs). She will help you whenever you need and is good about forming relationships with her students.
Good lectures and an overall amazing prof. Study and READ her notes (they are color coded and well made) and you will do good in her class.
convinced the bad reviews are just from people who didn't get the grade they wanted in the class.
Hands down the best calculus professor. Though the material can be challenging, Prof. Austin makes it manageable with her engaging lectures, accessible office hours, and helpful resources like Unstuck study. Definitely take this class if you want to succeed in MATH152.
good professor but kind of high handed. not very approachable.
Professor Austin is amazing! Her lectures are really engaging and easy to follow. She provides really in-depth notes and posts her notes in Canvas after lecture. As far as course difficulty, it's not really that hard. That being said, it is still Calc III so... Attendance is not mandatory but still be there. Overall, she is an amazing professor.
Amazing professor. Teaches the content very concisely, but still easy to understand. Tests are very doable with the resources she provides to study.
Thorough professor, dedicated and patient, and always willing to help in office hours (doesn't make you feel stupid). She helped a lot to earn an A (as someone who barely got B's in Calc 1 and 2). Definitely choose her class if you can! Don't underestimate the individual effort you'll need to put in. Take advantage of Hands On Grades Up!
TAKE HER!!! She is the best math prof I have had at TAMU. She genuinely wants you to succeed and she will help you if you reach out. If you put in the effort, it is definitely possible to get an A. Use the resources she provides for studying such as HOGU and practice tests. She explains the material in a way that is easier to comprehend.
Dr. Austin is the GOAT. I've taken her for Calc 1 and 2 and an A is doable with her. Yes Calc 2 and 3 are both heavy and you need to keep up the whole semester by doing HW and quizzes and really mastering the content. Other than that, her questions style isn't challenging at all, she simply tests over the material, TAKE HER.
Dr. Austin is very knowledgeable about math and is the department head. Her lectures do a great job at breaking down concepts and her exams are fair. I personally found calculus 3 a little harder than calculus 2 simply because its less "hard math" but more of knowing what operation to do. Overall, you can't go wrong with Dr. Austin.
Really good calc professor. I felt like her exams were some of the fairest I've seen in the math department. It's important to do well on the first two exams cause the last 3rd of the class was very difficult, although she curved my 89 to an A :).
Amazing professor, made the class very straightforward and easy to follow. weekly quizzes but they're all around 3 to 4 questions and very easy. Had her at 9am and she was not difficult to follow at all. TAKE HER
I personally found calc 3 more difficult than calc 2. That being said, Professor Austin is a great lecturer. Although her tests are usually on the more difficult side. Attend class and do the homework and quizzes and you will be prepared for the exams.
lectured well, accessible during office hours. if u pay attention, do homework, and study for test u will probably be fine
Professor Amy was a really good professor. I took her Fall 24 and shes a great lecturer. After attending her classes, she would help you grasp an intuitive sense of whatever was being taught. She also posted her notes online, making it easier to catch up/look at something post lecture that you may have not written down.
One of the best profs you can possibly get for math. Explained concepts very clearly during lectures and made students aware of what's going to be tested. It might take a bit on your part to do well, but she has the resources necessary for you to succeed. Final was very fair as well.
AMAZING Calc II professor. She's very detailed in her explanations and doesn't rush through material (which can lead to slow lectures which is the only con if you take her). She readily takes questions and is very considerate, not to mention her final was incredibly reasonable. Will take her again for Calc III!
MATH152 is evil, but Austin is the BEST professor to get. Quizzes were fair and the lowest one is dropped. Her final was very fair (even easy) and she was transparent with how to prepare. You can get up to a 105 on the final, which put my total grade above a 100 despite doing poorly on the first exam. Loved her sm I will be taking her for 251 too!
She's goated. Take her if you can.
Overall, she is a really great prof. She moves a little slow in the timeline of notes, but she really does prepare you for the common exams. Her notes are really good and she does set you up for success for the exam. She's very patient and works well with students outside of class. Extremely reachable and makes an effort with students. TAKE HER!!
100% the best professor I have had at a university yet. During her lectures she covers all the content that will be on the common exams. Her exam averages are higher than averages from other profs. There's no such thing as a free A in Calc 2 but if you use her notes and the resources available to you it is much more achievable.
not very kind and takes pleasure in making her exams harder than other professors
Very good professor, just took for Math 152. I had a C in Calc BC in high school, but she made the content very easy to understand, and she helps in office hours. The only thing I would say is to pay attention in class and not mindlessly write down notes because she makes a lot of mistakes on her notes. She rounded my 89 up to a 90 too.
Hands down the BEST prof for 152. Amazing lectures and notes! Professor Austin is very good at explaining complicated concepts in a clear way while keeping the class engaging. Her final was very doable especially if you take her advice on studying for it. I know several students that liked her office hours too. TAKE AMY AUSTIN! You won't regret it.
Dr.Austin is amazing. She made a difficult math class clear and understandable. She divides notes by sections and does many example problems. Try to get her for Cal 2 if at all possible.
THE GOAT. W TEACH
She knows what she is doing, and does a great job at doing it. Her notes are very clear at telling what you have to/don't have to know for exams. Difficult class & I struggled alot, but nonetheless a great professor
AMY AUSTIN IS THE GOAT! Take her! She makes 152, an incredibly hard class, easier to follow. I recommend going to her office hours as an opportunity to learn further from her as she is a really good 1-on-1 teacher. My TA sucked, but not her fault, she even agreed he wasn't the best. Take Austin if you can, but you will still need to put in work. :)
She is very knowledgeable and accessible outside of class. She listens to the majority if we feel deadlines are crazy she will push them back within reason.
Best math teacher I've ever had hands down. She lectures in such a way that makes topics make sense instantly, and her office hours are incredibly helpful. Just stay on top of your homework and you will be set.
Solid professor. Helpful notes, the problems were similar to HW &TESTS. I have a hard time focusing, so I found her to be very boring and had a hard time focusing but I think that was just my issue. Gave 5 extra points on the exam.
I took this course in the summer. To be honest, I didn't really like the way she taught. She didn't really explain/go in depth into the explanations. I will say it was a fast pace class, so maybe that's why. I wouldn't take her if you learn better when the prof takes their time to explain. If you have an understanding, then she is the prof for you.
Really good at explaining context
Best math professor I've had! She's great at explaining things in a way everyone understands, even though the material is dense. She's super approachable and helpful, and her quizzes/exams are very fair!
I wish Austin taught 308 as well! I had her for 152 and 251. She is kind and connects with her students. Her exams are fair but require working QUICKLY. She went on leave during the semester, but went above and beyond to check in with our new professor to make sure we were succeeding. She even looked over his exams to make sure “we would like it.”
