BORING
Very nice and easy. She explains topics well, though often quickly because time is limited. For the time given, she does a great job covering the main points. It's very immature to call her class "boring." It's College Algebra, what do you expect? Sometimes I wonder what these people are doing in college. Bottom line, Amy is your best bet.
Boring, boring, boring. Powerpoints for every class. Boring.
She is amazing, I agree her power points get old, but she knows how to teach. She understands exactly what she needs to say to get her students to understand the concept. She is concerned about her students and will do a lot to help them out if they need it. Take her class, she is awsome, not to mention that she looks good as well.
Amy is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. She is very helpful and her calss is extremely easy. I would recommend her to anyone going into College Algebra!!!
College Algebra is not a fun class, but Amy makes its semi-interesting. She uses powerpoints every class. Some say this is boring, but I think it is very helpful. She puts the powerpoints online so you can print them out. This really reduces note-taking. The class is very easy and Amy tries very hard to make to make the class more interesting
Has a cool jeopardy game and is extremely beautiful and caring.
Amy is a really good college algebra professor. I believe this is actually her first year doing lectures, she used to be a lab coordinator. Since she has done both, she is pretty good at combining the two so it will benefit the students as much as possible. And she really cares about her students. She reads these ratings, too, & cares what we think
shes a great teacher ..easy class.. easy grade as long as you show up and do the daily work.highly recommended teacher for college algebra
Explains well and is good looking.

she is so easy! youll love her!
The professor is wonderful. She knows the subject and has a wonderful way of teaching it. The book is not necessarily something you have to buy because you can print out the exercise pages off of mymathlab. She is also very helpful when you need her. I would recommend her to anyone that has trouble with math or would like to take a nice profess
amy benvie is wonderful. a recent graduate of UF, she really understands the mindset of a current student. she is very clear in her lectures, and will explain and clarify anything in great detail. 90% of the mid-term and final are questions from the weekly quizzes. go to your labs, and you'll definitely get out of this class with an A.
She is an awesome lecture teacher. She is easy to hear and understand when she is going over the material. This semester she made worksheets that you could print out and bring to class, these sheets made studying for the quizes and test's very easy. I would definately recommend taking her for any math class she teaches!
very good teacher, and beautiful lady
Sweetest teacher I've had here. Very helpful and her Liberal Arts II class is so EASY. If you're not a math person you'll do great in her class.
I love this young woman! She is young, enthusiastic, and extremely energetic. She always begins class with a personal note She lets you keep her notes in the event that you don't like taking them. She is very involved with her students. I give her a definate A+ on being the BEST math teacher I've ever had.
The BEST math teacher I have ever had. She really cares about the students and what they need to learn. Will change the way she teaches math if you think there is a better way. Very helpful if you stay and talk to her. You can tell she loves her job. Show up, take all the notes and try your best to pay attention. Dont forget your clicker!
She is an awsome one, just take her class during the regular semester, summer is too short.
She's really sweet, but is cute sickeningly cute. She should be teaching third grade. Don't get me wrong, I liked her and passed the class, but she hands out candy and talks in a baby voice. To the point: she is a good and helpful teacher, and guys seem to enjoy her.
SUPER NICE AND HOTT AS HELL
This professor was the best! She was very understanding when I needed help, and made learning math fun and easy. Never have I not dreaded a math class or test before!
She was an amazing professor! so sweet and is pretty easy!
She's an amazing teacher! Very easy class, and very easy tests. You get to drop the lowest scores on just about everything (tests, quizzes, HW, etc.). Rambles occasionally, but never to the annoying point. Makes for an awesome easy A class. I highly recommend!
I miss the days that I don't have her class. The hardest part about her classes is paying attention to what she says instead of how cute she is.
verrrry easy A if you go.. and a hot teacher on top of it.
Professor Benvie is a very good professor. She is nice and always willing to help. It was also nice to have a hott professor for once. Not bad at 8AM. Take her for any math classes you can!
Labs suck! All you need to do is show up to lecture and take notes and you will get an A. I never opened the book.
I have her now for precalculus. Let's just say I usually do terrible in precalc classes but I get A's on everything in her class. Best math teacher I've ever had.
Really great professor, the reviews are exactly like the exams.
great professor. extremely cute and treats the class like 11 year olds, which makes it so unstressful. lets you drop 1 test, 2 homeworks, and 2 quizzes. take her n get hottt
Benvie is totally nice. She is really tight on attendance...so remember your clicker. I was able to ace her final because it was practically identical to her review sheets. I've never gotten an a in a math class in my life so this class was great!
Great teacher, very attractive. Midterm and final are VERY similar to handouts/reviews.
She is very nice! The only thing is when I took her college Alg. class she was pushing for the exam to be done with out a calculator!!! other than that she is great!
Great Teacher, lectures are simple and to the point, tries to make it intresting. The Labs sure up anything you have trouble on, but overall really simple.
This teacher is one of the hottest in the FGCU. The lectures are easy and you don't even have to pay attention, especially cause you'll be staring at her all class. She shows you funny youtube vidoes and is to cute to ever take really serious, especially when she gets mad. If you take her class you won't be disappointed.
She is a great teacher just hope you get a good lab assistant. She will help you if you need it. She is very nice and loves math. She shows funny videos half way through lecture. Make sure you have your clicker for class so you get attendence credit.
Excellent professor! Easy to talk to and never has a problem answering questions. Attendance is mandatory, which can be a pain, but she is hot so it makes it worth coming to class!
the hottest teacher ive probably ever had but attendence is required. make sure you have the right clicker number. if you pay attention and when you need help go to lab, this class will be a breeze
great teacher. makes lectures as interesting as possible. attendence is mandatory but you dont really have to pay attention. dont forget your clicker! easy A. would reccomend to anyone.
Incredibly hot teacher. Attendance is required and she's very strict about having clickers. Her lectures are very straight forward and simple to follow. She is the first math teacher I have been able to learn from. No text book, but she makes you pay for it with ink and paper by making you print twenty pages before every lecture.
What a wonderful teacher. Adorable, sweet, cares about the students. Attendance worth 5%, not mandatory. Explained things SO easily. Don't buy the textbook you don't need it!! Drops your lowest exam, quiz, and homework scores. It's rare that a student actually looks forward to going 2 class! I can not say enough good things about Professor Benvie.
she has video breaks! funny vids from utube. and well everything else is said here...
Wonderful teacher, really understands her students. Easy class... only because she teaches the material very well. Having a lab along with this class gets a bit repetitive though. Do your online homework, go to class, and do well on your online quizzes... and you'll get an A. And don't buy the textbook!
Cool teacher. Try to participate and show up. Do good on quizzes/hw online!!
Awesome professor. She works each problem out, step by step, and it's very easy to follow along. She breaks the lesson in half with a short video. Definitely recommend.
Cool teacher. Alot of people use the class time to learn while I just go on coursecompass and do all my homework and quizzes. Just make sure to have someone you know actually paying attention to material. If you get the 4 or 5 easy questions right, you get 10% bonus on quiz every week. Highly Recommended.
She has the best handwriting I have ever seen. Uses the clicker for attendance. lectures very helpful. she is really hot!
Attendance mandatory. Lectures are hard to focus while being in the lecture hall with 190+ students with you. If you understand math just take the class online, your better off.
Best Math Professor! Talks to the lecture like we are little kids but makes it easy to understand! Breaks up the long lecture with a video clip every week. Attendance is MANDATORY! Mid-term & Final count for 70% of your grade so make sure you study the packet! Highly Recommended!
best math teacher at fgcu
Didn't even have this awesome professor. I had Planas which was impossible to understand. Professor Benvie filled in for two classes and was awesome! I learned more in the two classes with her than I did with Planas for the whole semester. Not to mention she has that girl next door wanna take you home to mom, way about her.
She is by far one of the best math teachers I have ever had. In the lecture she explains and goes through each problem perfectly. I love how she breaks up the lecture with a funny video clip. You must attend lecture but you will definitely want to with the way she explains!
One of the best teacher's I've had! She makes math easy to understand and I have learned more in one semester than 4 years in high school. Would definitely recommend her to anyone who has difficulty with math or wants an awesome math teacher in general!
Great teacher. Goes through the notes and examples step by step and actually cares for teaching. Show up, do all the work, and study the review packets for each test and it's an easy grade.
Best Math Teacher ever! I am terrible at math and she tries really hard to make you understand the material! You get to drop 1 test, 2 quizzes, and 2 homework assignments. She is very nice and helpful. Take her if you can!
She was great, went through every problem that was going to be on the homework. the quizes are exactly what's on the tests. great teacher, made math easy!
very kind teacher. always willing to help you. she goes through problems in lecture step by step and makes sure you understand. definitely take this teacher
She is very clear, she removes two homeworks, two class attendance, and two lab attendances at the end. She is always available to get help. Great teacher, but make sure to get a good lab assistant, they help the most!
Awesome teacher! Very precise and clear when teaching. Sometime talks to students like we are in elementary school, but still explains the material in a manner easy to understand.
I am not the smartest person when it comes to math and Benvie is the best teacher i've ever had. She is really helpful and is always available outside of class. She tries really hard to get you to understand and truly wants you to succeed. I would recommend her to anyone who hates math or struggles with it.
Absolutely amazing class!!!!! the class is mandatory but very helpful. She puts up her notes and does examples. The labs are not mandatory but hiiiighly recommended. The exams are EXACTLY like her reviews and the quizzes that are held within the labs are EXACTLY like the reviews also. Take her and you are guaranteed an A.
Easily the best math teacher in all of my academia. Clearly explains everything, is fun loving, and doesn't assign a boatload of work. Just make sure to study, but her Algebra class is easy!
She's a very nice woman, and is very clear in her expectations for the class. That's where it ends. She has 6+ classes, which I don't understand why, and most of the time, her lab assistants teach. Sadly, those two morons haven't a clue how to explain the subject matter. All they do is copy stuff down. They don't explain the theory. Neither does sh
EASY AND IF YOU FOLLOW THE HOMEWORK AND QUIZZES ITS AND EASY A
She's nice and he class wasn't too bad. It got boring but she uses the clickers to make sure you stay involved. Plays youtube videos during a break to keep you awake. Kind of talks to students like little kids but I guess thats not BAD.
Good class. lecture is 5 % of your grade which involves the clickers. Just do understand the homework and quizes online and attend class as much as possible, and you will get an A. Do the study guides, the tests are exactly like it.she is a sweet lady!
Nice Lady, but like others have said thats where it ends. Talk to you like a kid, all the quizes on-line but thats where I learned it because she didnt teach it, she has her favorites. I want to know the work not about your personal life. I think if she would stop saying "okay" than we could get some work done.
I'm not good in Math but she explains the topics well. I got through the class and she is very helpful and makes it easier to comprehend.
Go to class and print out the lecture outlines. She goes through the problems and teachers you how to work them step by step. Math is hard for me, but she helped me understand it better.
Really great teacher! She is really young and energetic. If math comes somewhat easy to you, this will be a breeze. She gives examples and walkes you through them step by step. Half way through class she shows a funny youtube video and then gets back to giving notes. You cant ask questions, but thats what the lab is for :)
She is the sweetest ever, and shows funny videos. You need a "clicker" for the class to show you attended, and she does a head count to make sure no one brought yours when you weren't there. However, her test reviews are just like her tests. DO THEM and you will do fine. :)
Easy class. The test reviews are pretty much the test. I learned most of the information online with the homework though. You take quizzes in lab, and depending on what lab teacher you have, you don't have to go unless there is a quiz.
attendance is not a part of your grade. all the notes she gives in class are scanned online so you don't even have to go. homework is like the quiz which is like the test. she is very sweet and helpful. i hate math and have an A with barely any studying!
Great teacher just dont forget your clicker. If you use the notes that she gives you to print out to take notes in class the class is easy to pass. All you have to study is the few sample problems she does during her lecture.
Great professor!
Elementary calc, don't bother buying textbook I didn't and I got a B+. Tests are mostly multiple choice but difficult, she often finds mistakes on her tests that she tells you about halfway through the exam. Better suited to teaching lower level math, do not recommend for elementary calc.
She's nice and her class is some what easy. she just talk a lil too much and move slow like we're elementary kids. but other than that she a good teacher and i recommend her than any other math teacher.
Benvie is super nice and easy, I hate math and I'm not very good at it but I got an A in her class no problem. The only issue is her problems she solves in lecture aren't as hard as the ones in the lab and sometimes they don't even look alike so be prepared to teach yourself some of the chapters. But again not a bad teacher and would take her again
She's a solid math teacher, one of the better choices. Drops lowest test grade and 4 lowest homework/lab. I didn't do anything for 3 weeks, woke up and have a B in the class. It's majorly dependent on your lab instructors, though. Her lectures are very long/boring but she's a good teacher.
She's young which allows her to reach out to you on a level that you can understand. She's always available if you don't understand anything, and she puts up the notes in case you miss a class. Overall she's really helpful and one of the better teachers at FGCU.
If you have to take elementary calculus, take it with her! The homework is really hard compared to her examples in class but it makes the tests so much easier! Also, don't bother with the textbook, you won't need it.
Overall great professor for College Algebra, she was super nice and adorable! I studied for her exams and passed the class with a breeze. She offers extra credit points by doing exercises on the board, which helped a lot.
Professor Benvie overall is a great math teacher. She's very helpful when you don't understand something. However, it seemed that as the course when on, her exams reflected the homework less and less. Some problems blew my mind.
Not enough resources for studying for tests. Writes notes so fast you pay more attention trying to keep up more than the actual lesson so you end up learning nothing. Other classes for college algebra say they have study guides but we do not. What's on the homework is so different than what's on the test.
I really don't like math and was worried about this class. She is a great teacher! Puts things in simple terms and the tests are multiple choice. I would definitely show up for class though: it makes the online homework much easier. Obviously a great professor if I took time out of my day just to post this about her.
Easy if you just study abit. Puts all the notes online but theres a decent homework load.
She does a great job with explaining each section although its not required to go to class I recommend it. She informs you each class about tutoring sessions. She drops 4 home works and one test witch defiantly helps your grade! She is very helpful with answering questions! Would take her again!
I love Ms. Benvie! Attendance is not required, but it is definitely helpful, although she posts the notes online anyway. She is very clear and helpful. I would love to take her again!
Professor Benvie is great she is super organized and helpful. Math isn't my strongest subject at all but Professor Benvie makes notes easy to understand and is always able to help during or after class. Class is really organized and towards the end of class she even lets you start homework and helps you if you are confused. Overall shes amazing
Mrs. Benvie was awesome. She is very knowledgeable and was able to answer some of the weirdest math questions I've ever heard. She talked about her children every class we had. There is an online textbook and the lecture notes were posted online after class. Quizzes were easy and the some of the same questions were on the final. Highly recommend!
Awesome & helpful! Loves sharing stories about her kids! Homework is on MyMathLab, nothing extensive! Gives charter tests, but only 20 multiple choice questions! Lectures are easy to understand. Provides clarity to questions. Great at responding to emails Shares vital course information. Final is cumulative. Definitely recommend taking her courses!
Awesome & helpful professor! Material can be a bit tricky but she provides great clarity and feedback! She's there for her students, great at responding to emails and shares information that may be vital to the course! Homework is on MyMathLab, textbook isn't mandatory! Course is easy to follow, attendance/participation is graded. I reccomend her!!
One of the best teachers I have ever had. She is a real person and treats you like one. I wish she could teach all my math classes. Try everything you can to have her as a professor.
She is always upbeat and really funny along with being pretty attractive!(;
Benvie was fantastic. The lectures are posted online so not to much note taking needed. The My Math Lab is a pain in the arse, but that is not her fault. She is always willing to help. The quizzes are not bad. What is even better is she will literally take quiz questions and put them on the midterm and she drops your lowest quiz. I high recommend
Best math teacher i have ever had.
Lectures are clear, homework is due before the next class, uses my math lab (which helps a lot). She drops four of the homework grades and a quiz at the end of the semester. Very inviting demeanor, always answers questions. Class is almost impossible to fail. Attendance isn't graded but its important to show up because the notes can be confusing.
Great professor. Easy to understand and willing to help/explain in detail if you attend her office hours. Homework is essential to passing, but there's plenty of time to get it done. No pop quizzes; there is a schedule in the syllabus that she sticks to so you always know what's going on.
She's super nice and helpful. I actually enjoy the class. Definitely one of the best professors at the school.
She does not give very good examples. Its all from the text book. She only goes over about five questions in class. She uploads the notes so you do not have to go to class, but needs to be there for the quizes and midterms.
Attendance isn't mandatory but go to class or else you'll fall behind. You may think you understand everything she's going over in class and in the homework but her tests are 10x harder than anything she ever goes over in class. Study really hard for the tests and finals and you should be okay. She's super sweet and funny and does mean well.
If you go to class, you will do better on the short tests. she is a great teacher and really explains things well. She wants everyone to do well.
Sweet teacher it's like being in 2nd grade all over again with the nicest teacher.
Professor Benvie is amazing! I came into College Algebra worried that I wouldn't be able to understand any of the topics, but Professor Benvie is clear and succinct and always willing to help. She is the best math teacher I have ever had, and every class I genuinely enjoyed.
You most likely won't get an A. Trust me.
Professor Benvie was the most caring teacher that I had for the Fall 2016 semester. Great personality, not too much homework, exams are super simple, and she is very thorough in her teaching methods. Everyone who asks a question gets it answered, and she also has a very lively personality. Take her for an easy time in College Algebra :D
Very easy class in my opinion, but I am fairly good at math. If you show up to every class before the exams you get 5 percent added to your exam. She also drops the lowest exam grade and a couple low homework grades. Also if you have an A before she drops the grades you don't have to take the final.
I had her class at 8 am but it wasn't bad at all because her class was laid-back and enjoyable. She doesn't cover the more difficult questions you'll encounter in the homework in class, but she's very helpful if you go to her office hours. Getting an A is definitely doable, even if math is not your forte.
Professor Benvie is really nice and is very helpful in class. However, she does not teach. Instead, she assigns videos for the class to watch and gives a graded warmup online for the next day's section. Then she gives another worksheet in class and goes over it but it is not very helpful, especially when half the class has no idea what's going on.
Benvie was my first college math class and she's a great professor. I love that she stops teaching to answer a question if she sees a hand instead of waiting. She really wants to make sure you understand everything. I have her next sem too and I'm really excited
She was very sweet! Plus if you show up everyday she'll give you an extra 5 points on the test, however attendance isn't necessary.
I had her as a professor over the summer. She is so sweet! She really cares about your understanding and does everything she can to get you to pass the class.
Professor Benvie is an amazing teacher! She is so sweet, and really good at teaching. There is a lot of homework, but I didn't find it too challenging. I got an A, but I still feel that I improved my math skills a lot. Definitely take her!! She is great.
Benvie is an incredibly caring and amazing professor. Her class is a flipped classroom so if you don't want to be lost you'll want to make sure to do the homework. Attendance isn't mandatory but she often gives extra credit for perfect attendance. Overall the material is easily digestible if you keep up with the online videos and worksheets!
The best math prof ever! Benvie is super chill and does a great job explaining the worksheets. She'll give you 1 point of extra credit if you attend class every day until the test! Drops a test and some homeworks at the end of the semester.
Took Prof Benvie for college algebra online. Since its online, you basically teach yourself. She communicates with you every week. Dropped 3 lowest hw & a quiz. Midterm and Final make up most of the class grade.
I have always struggled with math while art has always been my strong suit. Some of the things gone over in this class (including Trig) I have never learned before. I quickly fell behind and when I went to her all she had to say was "keep your head up, you'll get through it!". I didn't and completed the class with a 21%
I was blessed to have Prof Benvie for my first math class at FGCU. 10/10 would recommend her, very caring and wants to see you succeed. She's also easy to talk to, I wish she could teach all my math classes.
I took Professor Benvie over the fall, and she was amazing! She drops your lowest test grades and gives you extra points if you show up every day. Not to mention, she was the most patient teacher I have had yet. Benvie also does a great job at explaining the work, and her office hours help students a lot. Definitely would take her again!
Professor Benvie is amazing! This course was a flip classroom, but she takes the time to explain everything in class, and make sure we understand. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you attend all the classes in between the chapter tests, she gives extra credit. She also drops the four lowest homework assignments and the lowest test grade.
Benvie is super great!! Shes really nice and is really good at explaining the material that you need to know. There is homework after every class which is kind of a pain, but its pretty easy. If you have perfect attendance, you get an extra credit point on your test! Test are just like the notes in class, so just pay attention!
You either love her or hate her. The class is set up where you watch videos before class and then do problems in class where she works them out step by step. She will talk about her kids a lot and its kind of annoying. One thing I didn't like is her rule about making up a test. My mother died on the day of her exam and she didn't let me make it up!
I've always struggled in math but this teacher is very difficult to get used to. She teaches a couple problems on the board and the rest of class is you working with your classmates. There is tons of homework that take a lot of time because some of it we haven't even learned yet. She is a very nice professor but just not my style of learning.
Professor Benvie is the best math teacher I have ever had. I struggle a lot in math but she will go over material until you fully understand it. During class you usually work in groups and do examples from the notes and then she goes over them at the end. The test are 20 multiple choice questions, but they all come exactly from the study guide.
Shes super kind and easy to understand. Homework is on mymathlab and is due at the start of each class. she drops your lowest test and it can be your final, also she gives extra credit on each test if you show up for every class.
Benvie is an amazing math professor. She dumbs it all down to the simplest steps for people like me who just cant understand math. There is an extra credit opportunity for each chapter. If you attend every class for that chapter, you get a free 5% on your exam. That's the main reason I didn't fail.
Professor Benvie is wonderful. She helped me multiple times outside of the classroom and was extremely helpful. Her lectures kept me intrigued for College Algebra and I enjoyed her fun spirit early in the morning. She gives 5 extra credit points for each test if you have perfect attendance leading up to it so GO TO CLASS! It is worth it!
She was so understanding when it came to questions. You don't need a textbook, but you have to have MyMathLab because that's where all the assignments are. There is a lot of work, but her tests are easy. She gives your practice tests and they look exactly like the test. Also, if you show up to class every day she gives you an extra point on tests.
I took benvie for college and intermediate algebra. I passed but only because I worked hard for it. I personally am not the best at math so i had to go to tutoring a lot because she doesnt really teach the content. we go over notes in class and do hw in mymathlab. the tests are multiple-choice take another teacher that will explain it better.
She's absolutely amazing! Super kind and caring honestly every teacher needs to be like her. Always willing to help until u understand it. Gives extra credit on tests & wants everyone to pass I struggled for a while until finally going to her then I went from low Fs to a high A on the tests. Im horrible at math and she makes me feel more confident
Benvie was a great college algebra professor! She provides you with notes and explains them very clearly. She is very patient and kind. Pay attention in class. Study hard! It is a lot of material,
TAKE THIS CLASS!! Incoming freshman and people who need college algebra, if you actually want to learn then take this class. She is by far my favorite professor at FGCU. It isn't easy you have homework and there are things you have to study for but it is so rewarding when you actually pass her class! I would recommend her to anyone!
Benvie was super sweet. She was available outside of class for help and offered EC often. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you go to all lectures before a test you get an extra point. Super clear steps for notes and mymathlab didnt always line up for homework but the tests are based off the notes. Study guide is basically the test
If you want to feel like you are in elementary school again, then take this professor. Treats the entire class like children. She literally makes everyone put their phone at the end of each row and counts every single one. Sad. Lectures were horribly boring. Goes straight off the notes. Would not recommend.
Loved this professor, class was interesting and you learn a lot. Fun assignments, shes very understanding if you cant come to class. Taking her again next semester
She is so nice and gives good lectures just make sure to pay attention and do the homework and the tests are easy!
If you need to take college algebra, I highly recommend taking Professor Benvie. I understood what I was learning because of her. She makes her lectures easy and understandable. She is a sweet and caring person and wants you to pass her class!!
I had professor Benvie for college algebra, She explains things very well step by step to assure that everyone understands the material. Sometimes the homework can be a little time consuming but thats not her fault. I suck at math and she made the class a breeze. Along with that she gives you an extra point for having perfect attendance.
Professor Benvie was the first professor I had here at FGCU and im so thankful!! Amazing teacher who genuinely cares about students. She makes you want to put your phone down and learn, which is hard for a lot of us during coronacation.
Benvie is a sweetheart. Class is straight to the point and pretty easy. Homework is simple and test are exactly like homework. Midterm and final are exactly like study guide. 10/10 take a class with this prof. If you give half a crap about the class you will pass. She is so understanding and willing to work with you. A gem of a lady
Benvie was very nice lady, but I didnt like her teaching style. She would make her announcements at the beginning of the class go over 2 problems and then tell us to get into groups and work on more problems. When my group would ask for help, it was hard for her to help because she has to help other students as well. Im sure she is a good teacher.
This class is test heavy. If youre not a good test taker I would suggest you take it with someone else. She is a fair professor, and offers some extra credit.
Good person, not good professor. She is lazy and wants you to learn off lecture videos outside class, this is why the class is short. She gets mad if you try to do the videos during HW time in class. Hw is also 30+ questions despite no real teaching LOL. If you're too busy for longwinded hw and learning outside class, TAKE A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR!
great teacher l, although she does not teach in class. she gives online lectures but goes over hw during class. just do your hw in class and ur straight
Professor Benvie is extremely kind and helpful. I personally am not a fan of math and even with help this class can sometimes be difficult. It's not necessarily her fault. Just a hard subject. Lots of homework though. She is willing to assist though and tries her best to help you succeed.
I really enjoyed professor Benvies class. There is a decent amount of homework but it really isnt that hard and it prepares you for the tests. Her study guides for the tests are exactly like the tests so if you study those you will pass. She also drops the lowest test, the lowest quiz, and the five lowest homework assignments!
She teaches using her own videos and class time is for homework. She's quite helpful and has an LA. Her notes cover everything on the tests, but not the hw, and hw averages 30 questions per assignment. Study guides match tests almost exactly, and small extra credit is available. She's more than willing to help her students.
Very awesome professor !
Look Benvie is very sweet, but she's also a lazy professor. You will never be taught in class because you watch pre-recorded videos on canvas. Then you must complete the homework, which can sometimes be up to 80 questions worth combined. You can pass the class, but it won't be easy. If she just taught the lessons in class, I'd have no complaints.
She makes you watch videos at home, then come into class to do classwork for and hour. I have ADHD and it is hard for me to focus at home so her style of teaching is awful to me. Extremely lazy.
I am in her class now and she is an amazing professor. She gives extra credit for exams, all you have to do is fill in the notes to get it! Really could not make it any easier to pass the class with an A. She is always willing to answer questions and if you are satisfied with the grades of your 5 chapter tests you don't have to take the final!
Professor Benvie is very sweet and gets straight to the point of what you need to know. USE THE WORKSHEETS AND EXTRA PRACTICE, if you understand those, you will pass every test without a doubt. For those who dont like flipped classrooms, she is willing to reteach/explain anything you may be confused on in person. She explains material very well.
Professor Benvir is super kind and understanding, as well as accommodating. I slacked off in the beginning of the semester due to mental/physical issues, but Professor Benvie was soooo nice & really helped me get back on track. She gives plenty of practice and extra credit opportunities. We used MyMathLab, and it had a lot of practice questions.
This class does not take attendance but if you do not show up for class you will not get the extra credit so do with that as you will. She does lectures online and goes over questions in class if you have any. Honestly just do your homework and make sure to study if you have a harder time with math and you will do fine.
She gives a lot of homework, each section has a homework assignment ranging from 4-14 questions, most of the time they're easy, though. She has a flipped classroom style, very annoying if you're not good at math so BEWARE. Her tests are easy, and she drops the final if you do well on the first five tests. That's the main selling point!
If you want to teach yourself college algebra, take this class. Listened to lectures online, did the homework online, and in class she'd just go over a few problems then walk around and not really help. For someone who struggles with math, this teacher was not the best fit for me.
At first I was nervous for this class because of the flipped class style. The class is actually not to bad because Professor Benvie is helpful. There is a lot of homework because you have to watch videos and do homework. Tests are hard but if you study you should do fine. If you come to class there is extra credit opportunities for the tests.
Super nice.
AMAZING
Professor Benvie is amazing. She is incredibly helpful, and she cares a lot about her students. Her class is flipped so you will have to take notes by the videos she provides (you can just print the notes and fill them in as you go along with the videos). Her tests are based on the worksheets she gives us, so make sure you do them.
There was a lot of homework. It is a flipped class so her lectures were online and class time was for any questions you had to work on worksheets for the unit. make sure you get your homework done by the deadlines bc no late work is accepted. Overall very good, gets personal with students and acts like a human being, not just a professor.
Great professor, you can tell she really cares. Attendance is worth points but it's usually a sign up sheet or a note check. Even through the class is flipped style she goes over any questions in class. Use the worksheets to study they are very similar to the tests and it's all multiple choice. She drops one test and homework is easy. Take Her!!
She is best math teacher that I have ever had. Yes calculus is tough but she is willing to go over practice problems again until students understand the concept. Review the practice wks she gives in class those problems are exactly like the exam. She is super sweet and gives students treats on their birthday.
She is very kind and sweet, loves to chat, and very helpful just ask her! The class (personally) was just a lot of work with all my other classes, I just felt like I always needed to do math work. But she is a great professor and a great person!
Elementary Calculus is a tough class but her explanations of the in class problems make the class 100 times easier to understand (coming from someone who never took calculus before). In order to get an A in this class it is expected that you put in a lot of time and effort into this class.
She is a very nice professor, she cares about everyone and you can see that. he way that she taught the math concepts just didnt add up to me. LIke your supposed to actually teach it to us and not hae us take the notes on it, I dont get that at all. I wouldnt recommend taking her class. She also has required notes and the tests are really hard
Elementary calculus is a hard class (coming from someone who has never taken calculus). But if you put in the time and effort into her class it is easy. The in class worksheets are very similar to the tests. She is my favorite professor so far at FGCU. Anyone who complains about this class doesn't show up to class and doesn't do the homework.
Professor Benvie runs a flipped classroom, which takes some getting used to. However, she is very helpful and cares about her students. Doing the homework and worksheets is key to succeeding. I also found Unstuck ai helpful for math practice and prep.
She is a great professor, she gives so much extra credit (5-12 points each test!). It is a flipped classroom style, but I prefer that. She explains homework and problems really well and genuinely cares about your grade. You should definitely take her Algebra class!!!
Professor does not actually teach the subjects in class. She strictly goes over the homework and expects your to learn the concepts on your own. Lots of homework and notes given.
Benvie is absolutely fantastic! She is super organized and is always willing to help you. Make sure you stay on top of your homework, because it will seem tedious at some points. She gives a ton of extra credit and she is just the sweetest nicest woman ever!
This professor is a very nice person, but her teaching style did not work for me. As someone who loves math, I was utterly confused the entire semester. It is a flipped classroom style, and her tests are extremely difficult. Homework isn't too bad as long as you stay on top of it.
Mrs. Benvie gives as many resources as possible for you to receive a passing grade in the course. She gives up to 9% of extra credit opportunities every exam and even drops your worst exam grade. It is a flipped classroom style but if you do the notes, homework, and be prepared with questions you will do great.
Nice lady. Flipped classroom style. Very test heavy. Only take this class if you are willing to put a lot of time towards it outside of class. You basically have to teach yourself. Dropped lowest test. No late work. She grades on test, hw and note checks. Study the study guides and extra practices and go to TA office hours for extra credit.
Benvie has a flipped classroom style (watching videos/taking notes outside of class) so class time is spent answering questions from students about homework/provided worksheets. Grade is test-heavy but tests are created FROM worksheet questions - easy to study for. Drops one test, homework, and attendance grade. Many extra credit opportunities!
Mrs. Benvie is very nice and understanding overall, the class is flipped so how you do does depend on how much time you put in out side of class to understand it. But she offers lots of extra credit and ways to learn.
Worksheets and exams are really similar. You have to take a lot of notes outside of class, but it's really easy, and you get multiple tries on the homework. She drops your lowest exam grade at the end, so if you do well on the unit exams, you can skip the final. Lots of extra credit opportunities too. Very nice and understanding!!
Amazing professor if you're not that great at math take her, she gives out so much extra credit and I am going to take her again for calculus.
I absolutely love professor Benvie. She is by far the best professor I have had at FGCU. Her class is flipped so before you take the class make sure you are prepared to watch the videos assigned and learn it that way. She gives up to 6% extra credit for each exam and you are also given the option to drop the final if you want.
If you don't understand math do not take her, it is a group setting and you'll fail. Take a diff prof that is not flipped classroom.
Ms. Benvie is such a sweetheart! Her positive attitude and thorough understanding of course material helps students stay engaged and motivated to attend class.
It's a flipped classroom style, so there's a lot of outside-of-class work, but the online lectures are very clear.
Nicest lady ever, she wants you to pass. She offers so much extra credit. Her tests are the exact same type of problems as the worksheets she gives out to practice, so you just need to study those. It is all flipped learning, but when you get to class, she'll answer any question and re explain anything that you need.
God bless this woman!!!! Very caring and accommodating to her students! As someone who is not profound in math, she was truly there whenever you needed help and would take the whole class period explaining a problem to you if you needed it.
Drops 4 grades from homework, attendance, and one test. Teaches ElemCalc in person, opposite of her Algebra class. Felt like she taught better with a flipped classroom style over entirely in person. Content is hard to digest if you are not a math person.
Mrs. Benvie was one of the most caring professors I've ever met. She is the sweetest and really cares about her students. She is super organized and sets up the class so that you review the material before, during, and after class. This is the first time i've ever completely understood math.
She is the most kind, caring, and helpful professor you will ever have. Not only is she great at teaching, and also genuinely cares about her students. She makes the classroom extremely welcoming and judgement free. This is the first math teacher I have ever had who hasn't made me feel stupid for asking questions.
Professor Benvie is amazing! She is so kind and caring. The lectures are homework-based and online, and then you apply what you learned in class. If you do the work, you will do well, show up to class, and accept the help she provides for you! definitely take her if you can
Benvie is amazing! She is so supportive, despite the really hard material to learn. TONS of extra credit. Plus she lets you drop a test.
Lecture and homework heavy but she'll help with questions in class. Great professor!
Worst professor I've had. Tests count for 65% of the grade; 2/3 of the class dropped this course. It's a flipped class, so you basically teach yourself. The final exam average was 18.1%. I missed a C by 1.5 points—the minimum to continue my degree—and received no support. Now there is an ongoing investigation into the test averages being so low.
I loved this class! Mrs. Benvie is super nice and is always willing to help. The course is fast paced and will be difficult to keep up if you skip. If you go to class and do the worksheets you will do well.
Very rude lady. I went to her office hours for help, and got told "if you cannot grasp the material, then you should change your major". For my major, I needed a C to pass. She is also being investigated for her students' test scores being very low (65% weight).
Extremely rude and unapproachable professor. Questions were often met with dismissive responses. Tests make up most of the grade, yet class exam averages were very low, showing widespread struggle. The flipped format leaves students teaching themselves with little guidance or support.
