Professor Brown is a wonderful Professor that instructs with compassion, heart, relaxation, and peace. She creates a calm and peaceful atmosphere wherever she may teach and allows room for growth in areas that you lack skills in. Taking her course will change your life completely for the betterment of your overall health and well-being.
I was not impressed with this professor nor this class. It was a meditation class and she always walked in frazzled, stressed out, and sometimes very frustrated. We all have stuff going on in our lives but she should practice what she professes. She approached things in a judgmental manner and some scientific claims she made were unsubstantiated.
Her whole thing is having PERFECT ATTENDANCE, which is logical considering the course is online and it's just meditation, but she has ZERO tolerance, ZERO empathy for any situation that would make you miss class more than once, DOES NOT CARE if you have bad wifi or a broken laptop, and drops your grade by an ENTIRE LETTER per absence.
This course is an easy A and it's really not that hard to show up for an hour. However, I did find it really hard to listen to Aunty while she was talking. I get that maybe she was trying to sound calm and serene, but honestly, it just made me want to tune out.
DO NOT TAKE! Professor Brown is only focused on attendance and that is all that matters. There is no leeway if you miss a class. Her grading policy is also very askew and the math does not work out evenly. There was no mindfulness just stress and a really bad professor. Take HDFS 435 much better class with far superior teacher and it is 3 credits.
Docking of a full letter grade per absence beyond the 1st, zero consideration or flexibility. Includes wifi issues, lateness, too long bathroom breaks (no camera off or leaving seat) or even her own tech mistakes. Hates student engagement, mutes students who disagree with her. Inconsistent grading criteria. Neophyte understanding of mindfulness.
I liked meditation before taking this class. The professor is very judgemental and rude, and not "mindful" at all. Professor mutes students that disagree with her and is very dismissive of constructive criticism. Her classes were very hard to listen to and I would not recommend this class to anyone. Many students felt this class was insufferable.
Professor Brown is a great teacher, kind person, and just wants you to participate.
Dr. Brown is such a lovely woman and a wonderful resource for all things mindfulness-related. She taught us so many ways to meditate, which is a lot harder than people realize. I look forward to learning from her in the future!
This class really helped me to not burn out by finals. It was a relaxing way to earn and extra A. I will use these skills for the rest of my life.
I would not recommend taking this class with Amy Brown. The class is easy enough to pass but is 100% attendance based so if you miss more than one class, your grade drops by a letter. I never had any issues with her but she got into many arguments with students and was very defensive and mean. I suggest finding another class to take instead.
The class doesn't require much of you outside of just showing up and taking a breather after hectic school weeks. If you show up consistently, you should do fine.
No studying, no homework, not test or quizes In order to get an A you really just had to show up and be present. You got 1 excused absent and after that your grade goes down. Sometimes she says things that comes out wrong but I don't think that she means to sound like that.
The class only meets once a week for the entire semester and your entire grade is solely based on attendance. The class is a beginner meditation class so as long as you are willing to participate, the class is fun and helpful. The professor is nice and is enthusiastic about teaching others about mediation.
I wish this class went better. Many people were excited to meditate but there were a few circumstances where arguments broke out in the middle of class between her and students. Sometimes she isn't very kind and gets frazzled easy with online stuff. Was excited but ended up disappointed as a whole.
I believe this class. to be extremely helpful for anybody who is new to meditation and mindfulness. She. can be a bit dismissive at times and uncalledDue to miscommunication between herself and some students within this course setting but don't let that stop you. I have taken this class 3 times now and my past 2 semesters with her were awesome
Has her course materials put together but isn't prepared around basic computer use to optimally present the material without hiccups every class. Regards to tech issues, she's strict on punctuality for students except herself. She's not attentive to in-class inquiries. Meditations are ok but sometimes distracting with hiccups this semester.
Dr. Amy Brown is a beautiful enlightened soul! It takes someone with strength to provide a sacred space like this where the mind has a place to go and be in quite in tranquility. Hard to find! And the lessons were good for the head and the heart. She deserves more credit than some give her. She's authentic! I would take it again! Priceless!!!
Just show up to class on zoom, turn your camera on and you get an easy A.
Loved every moment, made a huge change in the way I viewed many aspects of life and myself.
The class is easy to pass but it's very attendance-focused. On a personal level, I felt that her take on meditation was too "new-age" for my taste, and she was dismissive of students' concerns. She also stated a few untrue scientific claims about it. Meditation has a lot of benefits so it's really worth trying, but I'd learn it somewhere else.
Frankly I dont know how anyone could rate her well unless it was in terms of expressing how easy it was to show up & pass. Wish I could say it was easy to show up & just meditate too but the hostile environment she created did not align with what she was teaching because of the way she spoke to people. Made me uncomfortable practice what you preach
I would not recommend taking this class. The classes were boring and filled with technical difficulties that made for a chaotic and messy atmosphere instead of the expected peaceful energy. Professor often started late, was unprepared, or annoyed with having to teach. Does not provide a safe or mindful space. Voice is monotone and hard to listen to
Easiest class on campus, all you have to do is show up and you will get an A. No midterm or final, the only thing graded is attendance. However, I felt like this teacher just wanted a bunch of people to listen to her talk about her own outdated opinions. Most of the stuff she talks about is not based on science and more on her personal beliefs.
I loved CAAM 401(Meditation) and will be taking it again next semester. I loved Amy, she is so sweet and has a funny personality. Very easy class. Grade is based on if you show up on zoom once a week for a hour (camera on showing face). 16 weeks ,if you miss 1-2 you get an A, 3-4 a B, 4-5 a C, etc... Show up its so easy!
I was expecting to learn about mindfulness and was excited but she just talks about whatever she wants- totally unrelated to mindfulness. The class felt hostile and weird. It just seems like she wants everyone to be quiet, not move and listen to her talk about her life and opinions.
If you want free credit take this class, you just need to show up. If you want to take this class to learn about meditation, this might not be for you. She speaks of her personal beliefs rather than of science. However, you could totally take this class and do something else while you're on Zoom like doing homework or being on your phone.
Easy A, just show your face. Drops a whole letter grade for an absence. There is no empathy for why her students have to miss class. Hard to stay focused on her lectures because she just sounds so monotone and uninterested. You can't go to the bathroom you have to do that before class. You can't have internet issues or she'll mark absent.
She is not tolerant of students concerned, hostile environment, and be ready to sit down, not move and listen to her talk for an hour and you will get an A. She was even being some type of way about students fidgeting. would love to learn how to meditate better but she is not the one to do it, but easy credit so take it if you need it.
Honestly I didn't pay attention once in this class, I just showed up and used it as a study hall to work on other homework. She only grades attendance so just show up on time and stay for the hour and you're good to go.
Easy A all you have to do is show up! Only one zoom per week, no homework, no test, and no final exam!
Dr. Brown is a caring, kind, and patient person who really cares about your wellbeing. She is really knowledgeable and gives multiple ways to do one thing depending on your learning style and your focus as a student.
i have a hate love relationship with this professor. she respects students to a T, and is knowledgeable about meditation. except that she is biased. she doesnt mean to be. when having discussions about mental health, she takes an offensive stance. i dont think this is to be malicious, and i dont even know if she is aware that she does this.
Really enjoyed this class! The instructor's passion for the subject is truly inspiring, making the experience even more meaningful. The grading is straightforward, based solely on attendance. Just show up, participate in the meditations. It's an easy and rewarding way to earn credits while gaining a valuable and relaxing experience!
Her lectures are interesting and cover a variety of topics
Fun class just have to show up to class.
Very knowledgable and kind!
easy just attend class
Attendance is the only thing being graded :)
easy class, just need to show up once a week for an hour
A great teacher who is here to help!!! Just show up and Listen
Very caring professor, truly just wants to help her students. You have to go to class to pass the class but that's all you have to do.
Dr. Brown is caring, authentic, and knowledgable. Attendance is mandatory, save for 2 absences. I found it difficult to make the class each week, but I enjoyed the class so much that this is my second time taking it!
This professor and her teachings have helped me relieve stress through meditation! She has the most soothing voice and beautiful spirit :)
Prof Brown is such a kind person and you can really tell she cares deeply about her curriculum. This was such a great class, and it really helped during the stressful weeks of the semester.
this is a great place to be introduced to meditation. useful throughout life. a must in these troubling times. Aloha and Mahalo
I love prof brown she's my icon
🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
I really enjoyed this class! It was a great class to have if you are feeling overwhelmed with your other classes. Every class you get to meditate and take your mind off of things going on in life. It is a wonderful class where your grade is solely based on attendance.
This course is a great way to carve out 1 hour of selfcare time. It is so hard to find the time, but when you take something that gives you a grade for showing up and gives you tools to keep your sh!t together in the toughest times, itʻs a great investment!! I will def take this over and over because it forces me to take care of me!!
This professor she is very sweet and funny. Her class is very simple and even though it is not for everyone this class is wonderful! You only meet once a week in the afternoon for an hour. All you need to do for this class is to simply show up no taking is necessary at all in this class. I would higher take this class as it is also repeatable!
Professor Brown shares meditation skills with you as though you were family. Have taken this class before and would again to help me relax. Great class and great professor!
A professor that actually cares about her students, rare and refreshing. Content was also inspiring.
If you want to learn the art of meditation this is the class to take. If you do not think you will be able to attend 80-100% of class do not take this course as it is entirely graded on attendance. Amy is caring and passionate bringing peace to stressful weeks.
Very calming class, and she truly just wants to help her students. All you have to do to pass is go to class.
I appreciate the teacher's helping nature. I learned a lot of information that helped with my everyday life. The knowledge that she shared with stay with me always. Her super soothing voice was like a reset button to stressful days.
Dr. Amy Brown is a wonderful professor and a fantastic person! She brought a light to her class that I think was really needed for all of us at the time. Her compassion is evident in the way she speaks and the stories she tells. I hope to help others in my life the way her class has helped me!
0/100!!! ABSOLUTELY THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. "Professor" Brown should absolutely not be qualified to teach any sort of meditation class ever. She is extremely opinionated and is the epitome of a privileged white woman. I have no idea how she has ever earned a PhD. She has no actual education in psychological studies. Beware.
she was so so offensive. never take a meditation class with her - she has no idea what she is saying nor does she have actual education in this field. she deserves to have her licenses revoked - absolutely so harmful and is clearly super judgmental and biased. got major r@ cism vibes and she was a horrible teacher. 0/10, never again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! SHE SHOULD BE REPORTED, OUR CLASS HEARD HER SAY THE CRAZIEST STUFF!
NEVER AGAIN, REPORT PROFESSOR BROWN!!! She has no credentials to teach this subject.
poopoo doodoo opinions. probably should retire and move to florida where the atmosphere can match her opinions.
why wouldn't you want to take a 1 credit easy class? well it is not - because if you actually listen to what she is saying it is all made up nonsense of her own opinions. in the "pain" lecture she literally was saying that basically you should just try not to have pain. girl what? so privileged.
Do not take this class if you care about other people and cultures :) Prof Brown would make absurd statements all the time - tbh IDEK how she is teaching still. Ol girl needs to retire - her boomer is obvi showing, yikes.
i would never take her again.
yikes the reviews are crazy - but have to agree. she is super controversial.
girl, someone needs a reality check. she probably live up somewhere nice, meanwhile she has the audacity to judge people who "are obsessed with vanity and looks", maybe she should be a little more. obviously jealous of younger people.
yeah no! the worst!
hated every minute of having to listen to her. she would talk about "harmful relationships" in such a bad way, like victim blaming and saying if you're in a toxic situation... just get out of it :) miss girl???
reminds me of the aunt at thanksgiving who should probably set down the 7th glass of wine.
nah bro. horrible. save yourself the time and pick something else.
noooo no noooooooo!!! do not take this class, she should be reported.
what the helleyberry... what the hellyante.... admin needs to be aware of what she says.
can someone check if she actually has a PhD???
hahaha dude she literally hates other people - everything she says is harmful.
I just really didn't like this class. super unhelpful and felt fake.
stickler on attendance but really bad at teaching too
0/10, no ability to teach this subject
idk how she got the position she has, don't take her classes.
idk what students used to have her that gave her a 5/5 but they must be white men bc that is who she adores clearly
I write this review with immense sadness and disappointment, because a class I was looking forward to turned out to be not what I expected. I previously liked Amy - but our friendship no longer persists. As someone who came back to college in my 60's, I wish she would have treated us with more respect. Disheartening.
Got an A, but at what COST.
It's giving I grew up in the suburbs and have had everything handed to me so I decided to study nutrition and make other people feel bad about themselves.
"Home is a bad word free zone", she also tries to put her own religion into the lectures and reasoning. Odd.
She teaches like she's never been told "no" in her life.
Gave colonial vibes with a syllabus
felt like i was in a ted talk hosted by your least favorite relative at thanksgiving
Gatekept, girlbossed, and gaslit her way through the semester.
She speaks fluent microaggression in MLA format :)
if karen was a professor and also allergic to accountability
TG SHE IS RETIRING!!! BYE!!!! The worst.
Most likely she voted for the orange
It is clear that she projects her beliefs onto others and just uses this class as an opportunity to bait the hundreds of people who found this class online and thought it was anything good. This class is just right wing propaganda and brainwashing, and it's the worst type of it because people pay money to sit through this!
Get this Trump voter out of here. I would rather have Epstein as my professor than her.
This class is completely online and you don't actually do any work. Meditation isn't a difficult course at all, but Amy doesn't actually teach any of it, she's just on your behind for showing up to the once-a-week zoom class and ready to learn. The other professor though is super chill and glad he lead most of the lectures. It's only 1 credit tho
