Amy is a great teacher. She teaches things in multiple ways so if you have trouble understanding the 1st time maybe you will understand one of the other 3 times. There was lots of homework and notes durring class but very low use of the book because she explains everything in class so well. I recommend her.
Amy is a great teacher and keeps your attention. If you are struggling with math, she will explain several different ways. If you want math to be fun, like to play educational games, and work in groups: Amy is the teacher for you!
Amy is an amazing professor and has a real passion for teaching. She's funny, tough but fair, and goes out of her way to work with students and help them understand the material. Don't miss class (she hates that) or try to turn in late work and you'll be good!
Don't miss class. Don't turn in late homework. Do ALL homework. Read every section before class. She doesn't do every problem step by step. Doesn't write everything on the board. More verbal & high energy. Willing to help & believes in her students to get it. Reading assignments, goup activities, weekly quizzes, no extra credit.
I'm doing well in this class because it is all review, so my opinion may not be the most helpful. I think that Amy makes the class harder than it needs to be with her trick questions. She's fond of problems with answers that seem so absurd, that you waste all of your time doing them over. That being said, she knows her stuff and can exp
Awesome Teacher! I have unsuccessfully taken math 95 a few times now and felt that I might never understand Algebra. I came here looking for someone that could fix this problem. She did! She explains math in human terms. I will take her classes any chance I get.
Amy is a wonderful teacher. :) She really cares about her students and makes sure everyone understands. She is also very funny and makes class entertaining. Highly recommended for any student, especially if math is difficult for you. I would for sure take one of her classes again. :)
Amy's classes are fast paced. Homework is turned in every week, 2 handouts, once a week tests, two midterms and one all encompassing final. It's a lot of work, but Amy gets you through it one step at a time. She is fair, encouraging, and personable as long as you approach her first. Tip: turn in all homework and don't fall behind.
Math 95 is a hard subject.....There is lots going on and not enough time. So its hard no matter how you dice it but, Amy really cares about you passing and she tries really hard to make Math likeable for people.
She is very passionate about what she is teaching. However, I feel that she assigns more homework than necessary and goes through concepts briefly without much review. She knows what she is doing but does not explain thoroughly every concept. Her attitude is "IF you can't keep up, too bad". And I don't think this will ensure student success.
She is a fantastic instructor. However you will get the grade you EARN. Take her advice and get into a group and review every day. You will not find a better math teacher at PCC.
One of the top two best math teachers at PCC in my personal opinion. She actually WANTS her students to succeed in mathematics.
She is an awesome instructor. I've really struggled with math in the past but she explains things thoroughly, answers questions, reviews homework at the beginning of every class. She really makes herself available to her students, even outside of the classroom to help.
Very eager for you to grasp math, and she devotes a lot of time and energy to making sure you keep up and seek help if needed. She reviews all requested test or homework questions so you can catch your mistakes. She moves quick, and hates tardiness and cell phones. She is fun, likes to bust out some pop music and jokes. Highly recommend.
She is an awesome instructor. She is very passionate and really knows her stuff. She is very organized and makes herself available to the class. I have struggled with math in the past but she makes sure everyone understands before moving on-or recommends meeting after class. I would highly recommend her.
amy is a great and helpful teacher. she is always willing to help you understand and work out problems you might have. highly recommend this class!
She treats her class as if it was high school which overshadows an otherwise effective teaching methodology. Unnecessary emphasis on group work and assigns an exorbitant amount of redundant homework. If I had the choice of taking her again or having to wait a term, I would wait. By far, one of the worst instructors in my academic career.
Amy Is a great teacher, and I sincerely wish she could be my prof for e rest of the calculus series at PCC. I was really apprehensive about switching to a led class (previously only in online courses), but I found that 5 students were taking her class in order to have her as an instructor again, which is a great compliment. Funny, fair, & awesome.
Amy is by far one of the BEST professors ever! It is clear teaching is not just a job for her but a passion. The material is not always easy but she will do her best to ensure everyone understands. If you don´t enjoy group work or class participation she may not be right for you but if you want to learn and have fun at the same time she is awesome!
Amy is knowledgeable funny, and passionate. She loves what she does and tries her best to help you understand. The classes she teaches are fast paced and if you dont applu yourself you might sink, thats not amy's fault, she does her best to make things clear. If you do the homework and apply yourself you'll do great with her
Great instructor. You gotta study hard and you will be fine.
She is very sharp in her responses to students. She is short and cutting to some students. Her favorite students seem to be the younger generations. She seems to be intimidated by older students. She is definitely a high school teacher teaching college students who plays favorites and will give answers to her favorite students during exams.
Math 95 was my second term with Amy. She is an amazon teacher, I'm sad moving into the next class without her. She is very helpful, coming in for study groups on her day off, making her class notes available online and even sent an extra study guide to work on during the break. U can tell she really cares abou the success of her students.
This is my 2nd class with Amy and she was amazing! Amy loves to teach, cares about students, and is fair! She is the best professor I have had by far! MTH 95 is not an easy class but Amy will do all she can to help you if you do the work! Including holding study groups on her day off! Lots of homework but to get an A u will need the practice!
Amy is a teacher that cares abouther students. She is very insightful & knowledgeable in the field of mathematics and it shows and passes that onto her students. She is very caring and traets each student not as if they are all the same but as an individual. As a student who had to take this class a second time, I passed with her guidance.
This is one awesomw teacher!! I reallly enjoyed hwer way of teacher. I found her to be helpful and willing to work with the pace of her students. Math has never been exciting to me, but with Amy I now see Math in a different way. Thanks Amy
Amy was a great teacher, some students felt she was short with her students, I thought she did a good job not reteaching math 65. I liked her and we moved quickly, everything on the tests were covered in class. super clear expectations...
Literally the best math instructor ever. If you ever have the opportunity to take a class from Amy, do it.
I took Math 8 (Accelerated Intro Algebra Review) with Amy over the summer. She is honestly one of the best math teachers I've had in a long time. If you didn't understand it one way, she would take the time to teach it to you a different way until you do. Amy understands that people struggle with math and will accommodate if you put in the effort.
The class is great and she is really helpful and understanding...I'll definitely take the next class if available with her. That being said, however, the class is fast paced and sometimes feels more, "Do this, this this...understand? Good, moving on." without any chance to really look into the problem(s). She is a great teacher though.
Amy is a good teacher. She can come off as rude sometimes, but I really don't think she realizes it. She has a good sense of humor and stays organized. No surprises!
Amy is one of the few math teachers that made math understandable to me. College algebra is never a cake walk (see what I did there?), but Amy is clear in her teaching, and clear about her expectations. Great sense of humor, enthusiastic, makes an effort to be available to her students. Obviously LOVES math, and wants her students to succeed.
Honestly, I am awful at math and was pretty nervous for math 95. However, Amy rules. She is off putting by how blunt she is but lets face it, she is still a human being. She sat with us the day before the exam and helped go over everything we had questions about. She was willing to work with everyones time. That is a wonderful instructor.
Loved her class. She is very funny and willing to answer any question that you may have. She is also very helpful and cares about her students.
If it takes a lot of repetition for you to understand concepts this is not the class for you. Class is very heavily scored on tests and quizzes every week. She moves VERY quickly through problems and the further you get in the course she skips explaining steps of solving assuming you know them. tons of group work, I dropped due to bad test scores.
Amy Cakebread is an amazing teacher. If you have the chance to take a class with her, definitely do it. She cares a lot about her students, and will go out of her way to answer questions and help people if they ask her for her time after or before class. She is clear, and full of energy.
Amy is a good teacher and all, but she doesn't explain why each problem is how it is. I'm not getting a good grade in the class because I am not comprehending what she is teaching, because she's not explaining the material well enough to me. She tries to be funny, sometimes isn't funny.
She works every day to keep math interesting. Not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination. Lots of homework, and lots of quizes. You will have either hw due or a quiz every single day. Tests are not too hard, and she gives lots of study guides. Always happy to help after hours.
Amy is one of my favorite teachers at PCC. Very understanding and wants you to pass and will help anyway that she can. She also helped me in some of my other classes that weren't even focused on math. I will keep using her as a resource for the future. Probably the best math teacher by far that I've taken.
listen... anyone on here who is giving Amy a bad rating was either not in class or not vocal about their issues. she was thorough in her explanations and makes it very clear that she is available outside class if you have things that you aren't getting. she is the single most committed teacher i have ever had when it comes to her students success.
Amazing teacher. Tells horrible puns, but makes math interesting and will always help. She was happy to help me during her office hours even when I moved on to Math 95. Amazing lady, amazing prof.
Amy is funny but I didnt sign up for a comedy show. we were constantly shorted class time due to her need to express her views on the environment and her irish roots. She is very proud of the fact she can do the math which is great. she seems to have a following of female students that take her over and over again because they enjoy her comedy
SHes tuff, the class is hard, and she knows that.. But she is also there to help you succeed. If you ask for help you will get it. She will come to her office outside of hours to help you, she even let me bring my two year old to a tutoring session. She explains things clearly and is actually a really good teacher but also LOTS of hw.
I have taken Amy 2 terms. She is very insightful about teaching tactics. If the way she has explained it is confusing say so, she goes over it in class until you get it even if she needs to take another approach and even held study groups before final and midterm. Made herself oober available and quickly responded to emails with options
Amy is amazing! She really cares about her students and makes sure you understand the material. She put us into groups at the beginning of the term, which shouldn't bother you if you're an education major. She's funny and makes the class interesting and enjoyable. Love her!
Of all of the math teachers I have ever had, she truly has been the best, and that's saying something. I am not very talented with math, but Amy really takes the time to make sure each student understands the material. The one thing I didn't enjoy was the amount of homework, but that wasn't really her fault as our term got shorted for snow days.
My overall experience is this class was OK. The only thing that made me feel weird was I missed a few times, and because I missed I felt like she treated me differently and was not eager to help me catch up. This made my grade drop made me low and made me feel like it was pointless to go to class. She was passive aggressive and rude at times
Great teacher. She goes far too make sure that all the students putting effort forward do well. She limits the homework to only what is important then answers any and all questions you have on the homework. She is transparent with all tests/quizzes and helps to prepare by going over concepts before weekly quizzes and showing exam replicas.
I had Amy for my MTH111 class. She is absolutely brilliant. I really enjoyed her thorough examples and her more discussion based lectures. She is always there to help and is just so nice! If you're worried about passing the class, this class is for you! She does give quite the amount of homework but that's no biggie for a passing grade!
The most down to earth woman I've ever met
Amy Cakebread is not good lecturer. It is better If you read the textbook by yourself because you will understand the content of the lesson more than if she discuss es it for you. She overwhelms the students with heavy amount of homework. She is hilarious.
Would recommend Amy as a math teacher. Attendance is key.
Amy is one of my all-time favorite instructors. She is committed to helping her students learn and succeed. She does expect you to put in the work and be respectful, which should be standard in college. I took here for two terms and would take her again if she was teaching a class I needed. She continues to help me even though I'm not in her class.
Guidelines for turn-in assignments are astoundingly unclear, she waits until the last second to make the specific instructions (what exactly to turn in/format/etc.) known. Amy also nit-picks more than any professor I've seen on Lab turn-ins. In short, she seems to hold her students to a higher standard than she holds herself.
Amy is a brilliant mathematician but her teaching style is insanely picky and if you do not do EXACTLY what she wants she will not give credit at all. She is condescending and makes you feel like your dumb but not directly it is just her attitude towards math. Her grading criteria zero to nothing and you just have to hope you get it right.
I was scared going into Calculus, because, well.. it's calculus. Amy eased my fears and every time I got stuck, she made herself available, and helped me work through it. I even had a personal crisis once and she talked me off a ledge. She's caring, a little intense about math, but that makes her an excellent professor. I definitely recommend her.
Amy is so good at math and she knows a lot about it but the problem is doesn't know to share that knowledge to her students(she makes it harder to understand). and also her grading style is so bad. she cuts a lot of points on exam or assignments for small mistakes so its very hard to pass that class. so you guys don't expect A or B from this class.
Amy is a wonderful instructor! She is respectful and always willing to help. She has great office hours and a great teaching style.
Amy is my all time favorite professor. I have had her for 2 terms now and am going on a third. Started with math 211, then 212, and next term 213. She makes sure everybody is on the same page, makes us work in groups so we make friends, and she genuinely believes in all of us. Our class feels like a family.
For someone who says she will use every minute of every class, I am kicking myself for not having spoken up sooner. Our final was cut short by 30 minutes which I could have used to finish and look over my answers. 30 minutes makes a big difference on a final which affects your grade and GPA.
This is my second term with Amy. I've had her in two class sizes. This second course is smaller, only 9 students but she gives the same amount of care as she does in a larger class. Since this is a class for educators, it's very different than most math classes. That said, I am confident in my skills because of taking Amy's class.
Loved her sm! Very funny and nice, lectures are very clear and she will stop to go over if you need it. She is very accessible out of class and always there if you need it. I was worried knowing Math 111 was a hard class, but she made it very easy.
Adult students, beware. Taking Amy's class will feel very condescending. Amy is geared towards very young students and talks in a way that feels like you're being handled with kid gloves. The material itself is manageable and she covers everything that's on a test, but she caveats with a level of politicking that I wasn't fond of.
Amy is a great math teacher! I would recommend going to her office hours; they are really helpful! If you attend class, do the homework and ask questions, the course shouldn't be too difficult. She doesn't make exceptions for missing quizzes and grades them harder than tests. However, she does offer revisions for exams, which helped buffer my grad
Lots of homework that you have to make sure to complete. Shes caring but the class is just hard. Make sure to go to her office hours because theyre really helpful.
The one plus is that she's funny. But there's a lot of homework, and I (as well as other classmates) did not feel respected by her. I hated the class. You will not pass if you don't come to every class. She isn't kind when you ask questions and expects you to know everything right after reading it once. But if you must take the class you'll survive
The worst course Ive ever taken. Id honestly say this course even negatively impacted my mental health. And Im a straight A overachiever student. She is beyond overkill with homework and isnt flexible at all. Its all or nothing and if you miss something in class you cant make it up. Quiz every week. Very rude and degrading if you dont get it
Not understanding of students needs, extremely tough on grading and when you ask for help she gets annoyed that you dont understand the material. I received a B but it was the toughest class Ive ever taken.
Amy knows what she's doing, however she doesn't know how to teach it in a way that students will understand. She's not inclusive at all. There is a strong emphasis on group work and she doesn't seem to like to answer questions. She expects you to know everything and if you don't, expect to be torn down. Wouldn't recommend.
This instructor is extremely strict and not lenient. She is a very tough grader. I would not suggest taking her.
Zoom classes are hard. Want to go back to campus. Amy did her best to be upbeat and hilarious. It's a math class--so do your homework and go to class. Breakout rooms were hard because others did not do anything. Go to student hours to get help and read annoucments.
I took Amy in Winter 2019, I remember she was very nice, and her lectures covered a good amount of material. I usually just payed attention to the lectures, and did the homework, and I got an A.
Amy is very engaging & enthusiastic. She has very high standards for quizzes & tests, but if you take detailed notes she gives you everything you need to succeed. LOTS of group break out sessions. I had to work hard to keep up in this class, but the content was interesting. It's intensegive yourself more time for HW. Feels like a 5-6 credit class.
I took Foundations of Elementary Math 1, 2. Expect a lot of homework and very particular with grading, elementary does not mean easy math. I do feel I learned a lot in her classes and felt like the classes were quality and I'm well prepared for my next steps regarding being a teacher and teaching math to elementary school students.
Enthusiastic and passionate instructor. Course is not easy and comes with plenty of challenges, especially in a remote setting, but if you have the ability to dedicate plenty of time and effort into it, it will pay off. My main criticism is that I wish more class time could be spent reviewing homework or quiz problems that students struggled with.
I took Math 111 online for Winter 2021. If you need help she will explain things once and then tell you that 'you should know it by now' if you ask again. You have to upload all of your work and tests as a combined PDF file in a very limited timeframe. She is not a good teacher. The workload was ridiculous and I nearly gave up my desire to teach.
workload is INTENSE and professor is not considerate if students understand information or not. Exams were LONG and we were not given enough time to finish repeatedly. Professor expects you to understand concepts after only explaining them once, goes off on irrelevant tangents frequently during lecture. this is an overwhelming course.
Very passionate about math and teaching. I learned a l
she has a very nice set of teaching skills. she's great at what she does, however, this class was difficult for me. exams are around 6 pages each. it's a very textbook-heavy class, so she really does expect you to read it, & if you don't she'll just move on. overall, I liked her. i had more of a problem with the actual course material than anything
Be ready to spend a lot of time with homework and the textbook. Keep in mind you need 3 hours of field experience and write a three page essay on top of this. Very work heavy class and exams are tough if you don't study.
Amy was awesome and I'm excited to take the next course with her. She will give you feedback if you ask and if you try. Lots of homework, a lot of paper and a lot of material to carry around, but it's all worth it and helpful for the most part. Textbook was expensive but is used for all 3 MTH 211-13 classes. Being there is important for the subject
This teacher is terrible. This is not a high school class its college. No retakes no exceptions on doing it differently than the way she did it is absurd. Its her first time teaching over here yet she's allowed to be teaching in these kinds of classes which are high level and she wants it like a freshman class is stupid.
Amy is amazing, super funny, energetic, and kind. She cares about you and your success, although the class is a large workload. Lots of homework, but that is the course, not Amy. Amy will help as much as she can. Don't get behind in the class; it is hard to catch up. Be aware when signing up for it. Ask for help, use Amy, she's a great resource!
unfortunately she was incredibly anal about time and caused us to be behind in the class
