She's ok but being a graduate student she is still getting her bearings. When you ask for help she is willing but her instructions tend to be a bit fuzzy at times, when in doubt....ask.

She is a bit cheesy. Nice teacher. She hates tests. I guess being a graduate student she can relate. She hates giving grades but seems cool
This class is great! She's very intelligent and knows her stuff. What's wrong with cheesey! It keeps you interested in the class. I'd love ot have more teachers like her!
Professor Canevello is awesome! This is one of the few classes I actually enojy coming to! She is a great teacher and funny/witty as well. =]
She is a fun teacher, a little confusing. There is entirely too much information that you have to know for just two test. There is no final!
Challenging class, lots of material to cover. Instructor is very helpful, casual, entheusiastic, approchable, and encourages participation.
Great teacher sort-of hard class. Reviews are 3 pages front and back in 10 pt font! A LOT of material. 2 tests, a paper, and 2 article reviews. She uses a lot of outside material. You are required to know all the outside material and what is covered in the book. Extra credit avaliable.
alot of material covered and tested on. she really knows her stuff and is interested in what she talks about. not really organized. but pleasant, easy to talk to, and extremely helpful. w
Way too much material for just 2 tests! She admitted this was first time she taught this class and she plans to adjust. She loves stats & methods - so her paper requirements are heavy on those. Attend all lectures. Read book. Outside optional reading is covered in lectures. Extra credit is available
Alot of material covered and only two test. She loves the subject and knows her stuff.Be sure to right down examples. They really help. Extra credit aval. 2 tests (hard) and articles reviews. Not to hard to pass, but you must attend class. It makes it so much easier. I would take her again.
Very enthusiastic, really wants to help you learn. Definately recommended as a prof, and has a really nice figure that makes her a joy to watch... :)
The teacher started off the semester saying that although we were a class of seniors we were going to work our asses off although it was a sophomore class. There wasnt a textbook & we spent an overwhelming majority of class time on her studies instead of our own so although we did well for in class exercises we performed poorly on our own studies.
VERY hard class. She said we were doing graduate school material when this is not graduate school. Hardest class I took in college. Her teaching style is hard to understand. This course required way more work with her than other teachers teaching the same course. You have hard assigemts due almost every single class. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER
extremely difficult class. assignments are unnecessarily harshly graded; feedback is not helpful; TA's provide conflicting feedback.
If you do the work you will be fine. I suggest doing it as soon as class is over while memory is still fresh. If you really want to learn how to do research in psych then this is the teacher for you. The work can be challenging but she is willing to help you (TA also)
Very difficult class, but fair.If you want an easy class, not for you. The tests are completely short answer and essay (no multiple choice), and you will be writing a one page, 11 font, single space paper each week. Nevertheless, pretty good teacher and the material is really interesting and you will learn a lot. Responds to emails quickly. Engaging
This class is awful. Stay away or get another professor. Harshly graded, weekly pointless papers, and essay tests. You will never receive an A in this class because she just doesn't give them out. You could have the book and her notes memorized and still never make an A. STAY AWAY
This class is awful! The material is interesting but it is impossible to get a good grade in this class because the tests are essay ?'s and definitions. There is not even a word bank and you have to memorize way too many definitions and are only tested on about 10. She always tells you "I would know this" for an exam and 1/2 of it is not even on it
This class is extremely difficult and the grading is ridiculous. 4 exams the whole semester, short essay and fill in the blacks only. You study several definitions for the test with no idea which she'll choose, and she only chooses 10. TRUST ME, a ton of people did very poorly in her class this semester. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COURSE! HARD HARD HARD!
DO NOT TAKE THIS FOR YOUR SENIOR SEMINAR. WAS A HORRIBLE INSTRUCTOR AND ACTED LIKE SHES NICE BUT DOESNT CARE ABOUT WHETHER YOU PASS OR FAILS.
She is not helpful at all!!! Do not take her for any class. I would rate her 0 for everything if I could!
I don't usually just give a bad grade to a professor but I think she deserves this one. The class itself wouldn't have been so bad. A majority of my class didn't do so well on the first two exams. Even though I studied a lot, the tests were tough! You really, really shouldn't skip this class.
This was the absolute hardest class I have ever taken. If you take her class it will not be easy, although if you do well in the end it is rewarding! She is absolutely willing to help in any way she can. She seems intimidating in the beginning, but don't be afraid to talk to her, do the work to the best of your abilities and you'll do fine.
This class was a blur. Her teaching style is confusing. She doesn't seem to care about the students level of knowledge or even if the student is understanding the content. She is more focused on spewing HER knowledge of a subject. Relies heavily on a teachers assist who often times grades things wrong. Beware, her class WILL effect financial aid!
Dr. Canevello is a very nice person, but not a fantastic professor. The material she teaches might seem on the easy side, but her tests are ridiculously difficult. It is all completely fill in the blank, short, and long essay. There is no word bank. She lectures, but she also has things on the tests that are strictly from the textbook.
Even with working hard all semester I had a B when I am typically an A student. Then, the last week of classes she wrongfully gave me a 0 for an assignment that I completed. It dropped my grade from an 82 to a 79.6. Which she viewed as a C. When I emailed her about it, she ignored my emails. Very unprofessional and ended up hurting my GPA.
This class was quite honestly the worst thing that UNCC has to offer. For how hard her tests are you would think that she would be a better teacher and actually explain the material. You could study for a week straight on the two chapters that each test entails and still probably make an F. Which most students did on the tests. Don't do it.
Teaching style is very different from other professors Ive had. Doesnt believe in PowerPoints, study guides, or any electronic devices in the classrooms. All notes are taken with pencil and paper. Unessarily harsh grader, would not recommend if you care about your GPA because this class will surely bring it down.
Don't take this class if you care about your GPA. I read previous rates and thought maybe they were being over the top and that I could use a challenge. NO. This professor is (hopefully) one of the worst professors I have ever had and it is hard to believe that she would want you to pass by her crazy hard tests. Don't take this class.
Do not take this class. It seems like she does not want you to pass. Her exams are based off of lecture only essay like- no multiple choice. Most of the students failed her exams. Look for another professor if you care about your grades.
I can understand why others would say that she is a hard teacher. However, if you study and listen in her class, as well as take good notes, its really not that bad. Her exams are all essay questions, yet they arent hard. Just study all of her lecture notes and ask good questions! Shes fun to listen to, and she really loves what she teaches.
Professor Canevello is by far my favorite professor at UNC Charlotte. Her lectures are amazing & keep you focused and engaged. People say she's a tough grader, but if you go after class to her office hours, she will help you out tremendously. You will have to work for your grades, but pay attention to her lecture & read the book & you'll do great.
AMAZING professor. I learned so much in her class. You can tell she's a very intelligent woman and does a great job of helping you understand difficult concepts. She makes you work for your grade, but if you study well and come to class you'll do fine. Don't take the class if you're expecting an easy A but if you want to learn she's a great choice.
There is one paper due each week (300 words). Lectures are wonderful and engaging but she talks really fast because she is passionate. The classroom is a low tech classroom so handwritten notes only. She also doesnt use powerpoint or notes or anything. Overall a wonderful class but be sure not to skip or else youll miss possible test material
she's nice but dont take it for granted, you ganna have to work for your grade she is a hard grader but she provided everything for you to pass her class , if you struggling like i was show up to her office hours and she will help you. she will go over your exam with you and her lectures are amazing.
This class would have been smooth if I had a prof that knew how to teach. No lecture videos, only useless PowerPoints that dont touch into details of what were learning about. All assignments due at the end of the semester, 2 quizzes for each chapter, you really have to make sure you do them in a timely manner. Tests are a big part of ur grade
Must read & retain info from 100+ pages per week. Exam study guides at least 10 pages long in 9 pt font. LockDown Browser used & you have 35 minutes for 50 questions. PP lectures are not helpful & just bullet points from the reading. Poor professor rating because you basically teach yourself by reading. Very challenging class.
Professor Canevello is extremely nice and seems extremely passionate about Psychology, however she doesn't seem to realize how difficult her tests are for an introductory class. I wouldn't recommend this professor unless you are willing to spend a few hours a day studying for her tests. You probably will not make an A no matter how much you study.
Summer class. Tests are worth a big majority of your grade and study guides and powerpoints aren't helpful. The only thing that will give you your best chance is reading the textbook, so be sure to make time for that because the chapters are long. matching and reading quizzes are good study guides. Lockdown browser with webcam is used for exams.
Dr. Canevello was overall a great teacher. Her lectures were really clear which was great for taking notes, and she made it very clear what was going to be on the exams. The exams didn't cover anything new we learned in class, but she looks for very specific answers. If you don't completely understand a topic, you won't get by on the exams.
Dr. Canevello is very passionate about what she teaches and wants her students to do well. However, this is not an easy class and requires you to go to every lecture since she doesn't post powerPoints or notes. There is a small paper due every week and four exams which are the bulk of your grade but she drops the lowest exam grade.
Dr. Canevello is very passionate about psychology, she explains things very clearly and is ready to answer any questions. Attendance isn't required, but highly recommended as the exams are heavily based on what she says in class. Grades are based only on the exams and weekly papers (which are pretty easy).
She's a tough professor. Not an easy A class. You have to know. a lot of definitions for the tests. she doesn't have any hw but it's a test heavy class. For the tests, there is no multiple choice at all and they are taken on paper in class. She has pop quizzes but they are open note.
she also doesn't post her notes on Canvas. attendance is not required, but if you miss class, you'll miss a lot of info.
she's awful
Dr. Canevello's class is the most difficult class I have taken, but it wasn't impossible. If you go to class, take good notes, and study for her tests you will do well. Her tests are hard, but she just expects you to understand the material. I got an A on every test and only studied 3-4 hours the night before the test.
Easily the worst class I have taken at the University.... look elsewhere for your capstone course
Wouldn't say the worst but far from the best course I've ever taken. Attendance is mandatory due to popup quizzes and lectures coming from her and not from PowerPoint etc, therefore write down everything she says. The exams are knowledge-based but the popup quizzes are open notes. Don't take an 8 a.m if you do take this class, attendance is crucial.
This professor seems to strive to make this class unnecessarily difficult. She has regular pop quizzes. Her exams are composed of difficult free-response questions and essentially entail you rewriting your notes from memory. She does not even give exams back unless you come during office hours. She is clearly passionate about the material, however.
Dr. Canevello is very passionate about the subject. However, this is a fairly difficult course. Be prepared to listen carefully during her lectures, take lot of notes, and spend multiple hours studying. You have to read the textbook. There are also pop quizzes given. Although she lets you use notes for them, it is her way of ensuring people come.
I have never failed a class before in my life until this one, and it's an introductory psych course. My whole class was attentive and thorough but our class average on exams was a 26%. We were only graded on pop quizzes and four exams, so you basically have four chances at your grade and that's it. She talks in riddles on exams and in class. AWFUL!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
This class will tank your gpa do not take her! Her exams are impossible and the average exam grades are always low but she never seems to think it's her fault. If you're going to take social psych, take it with Russel or someone else. This class was the worst.
THE WORST CLASS EVER. This intro class is extremely difficult with Dr. Canevello and most people don't do well in her class. Her exams are impossible (worth most of your grade) and she grades very harshly on her pop quizzes. She doesn't seem to care about her students and only seems to care about herself. Take this class if you want to cry everyday
Attendance is not required in this class but if you miss it then you're really screwed. She always has this class at 8 am which doesn't help either. Exams are impossible and averages are always a 30%. She said that was normal & she's been teaching this class for 5 years. She doesn't seem to care about her students and doesn't mind failing people/
Overall, Dr. Canevello was a nice teacher. She seemed enthusiastic about what she was teaching and seemed to teach at the pace of the class's understanding; however, there are no assignments that she grades so your grade will heavily be determined by pop quizzes and only four exams. Questions on her exams were tricky and hard to understand.
Not an easy course at all. BUT, she knows what she is doing with her methods of teaching because I felt like I learned so much in her class. Open note "pop quizzes" once a week are just a way to check knowledge. exams 80% mult. choice, 20% short answer (which are typically the same questions from the quizzes). #1 tip: attend class & detailed notes.
She is passionate about her classes. She does a wonderful job at explaining concepts that has been helpful. The class is lecture heavy you need to be present or else you will fall behind. The tests are multiple choice with a few short answers. The short answers are usually similar to the popquiz questions. The popquiz is opennote.
if you want to actually LEARN things, take Dr. C. She is an amazing lecturer and really knows her stuff. If you want to take a class thats easy to slack off and cheat thru, dont take her class. to be successful you really need to come to class. otherwise good luck. but she is great at what she does, she just makes it where you gotta know your stuff
Dr.C is very passionate about the material she teaches. She is willing to explain things multiple times and use different examples. I do not recommend this class if you do not plan on going to every lecture and reading the textbook. She amazing, but you really have to put in the effort. Her test are mainly questions to apply your understanding.
She's not that bad. You have to study and attend class. But if you can't do that, then you don't really deserve that A that you would get from an easier instructor. If you want an easy A, take the class from someone else. If you want to learn something, she's solid.
made me sad
Be prepared to tank ur gpa, Canevello is fine as a person but a horrible professor-- this is an extremely hard course and it does not help that she enjoys making it harder by providing zero wiggle room. If you absolutely have to take her, youll live but theres a 8% rate youll get an A, half the class doesnt even pass. If you skip, you're toast.
Has these random pop quizzes so you HAVE to show up if you want to get a grade for it. Everything is just quizzes and tests. No powerpoints, just pure lecture so if you miss something from the lecture you're cooked. Social Psychology was honestly pretty alright, but if you have her for METHODS GOOOOOD LUCK LOOOL
Only saving grace is that she drops quizzes and one exam. If you want a new spunky fresh way of teaching, take her for your class. If you want to stick to comfort and textbooks, please take someone else. She'll for sure teach you new stuff but if you're working parttime and have a life, dont take this for Methods. Maybe Social Psych.
inspirationaly made me sad
Amazing professor. Material is hard so you need to read the textbook, study, and go to class. She is a great teacher and clearly very passionate abt it. Attendance is not mandatory but if you want to do good you have to go to the lectures.
Dr. Canevello was discriminatory to students. Before taking her course, I had a 4.0 GPA. Due to her poor teaching methods, my GPA has lowered significantly. She targeted a student in my class that had a medical illness and forced them to lay down in the front of the class as they couldn't sit in a chair. Extremely humiliating and unprofessional.
Regularly brags about how many students fail her class, not because course content is hard but because exams are deliberately difficult to understand. 4 exams total 200/250 points in the class. The averages of these exams are around 30%. You will not make a good grade even if you study, engage in class, and take notes. Unprofessional and unhelpful.
Would rather brag about her research than use material that actually describes what she's attempting to teach. Horrible.
grades solely based on tests, barely gives assignments to help my grade. likes to brag about how everyone fails her tests/ class. she does not help us understand the topic but rather talk about her past research. talks too fast and everyone asks too many questions bc we are all confused and class is only 50 mins.
This professor makes me want to give up on college entirely. Never felt so helpless and alone in a class before. She doesn't teach, just throws a bunch of terms on a powerpoint with no context. Dont take this class with her even if it delays your graduation.
It is difficult but I have truly learned so much. If you want to actually get something out of the money you're giving UNCC, take her class! If you want an easy A that's a waste of time, look elsewhere. By far the most engaging & intelligent professor I've had at UNCC. No homework bc you need to study for the exams instead.
The professor wasn't terrible but her lectures were a bit unorganized and sometimes confusing. She provides no study material; you are mostly on your own when preparing for exams. If you are a bad test taker, this class probably isn't for you. Nearly half the class consistently failed her exams. An A is possible but NOT easy. I wouldn't recommend.
if you struggle slightly with lectures or don't test well do NOT take this prof. she is incredibly hard to follow in class and creates exams that feel like the intention is for you to struggle. There is absolutely no wiggle room when it comes to grades either. Save your time, energy, effort and money.. choose a different professor.
Her class is very test heavy and her test are very hard
Avoid this professor. Her tests are extremely hard you don't get to take any tests home. So when you want to study you don't have anything to practice with. Most people fail her test. Be very prepared to devote all your time to this class.
I've had her for two classes now and if you show up to her office hours, she remembers you and is super easy to get feedback from! In social psych her lectures are amazing! she is super passionate and always has examples to really help you understand. Only note is put in the work in and outside class. but overall show up to class!
It's not an easy class, but she makes the material easy to understand. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I would heavily recommend going to her lectures. She's a very engaging teacher and she's really good at breaking things down. You must study to pass the tests. Most of your grade will be test-based, but she does drop one exam.
This class is difficult, and there are no projects or activities to engage with the material. The format is lecture, test, lecture test, and you have to teach a lot of the content to yourself via the textbook. This being said, this class is sooo interesting and Canevello is funny and nice!
To preface, Dr. Canevello is brilliant, passionate, and funny! I know she is a great professor and knows what she's talking about, HOWEVER, the way she constructed her 2101 felt unfair and was extremely difficult. I do not recommend taking her for this class unless you are a good exam taker and are ON TOP of studying. You end up teaching yourself.
Her class is engaging and informative. She was always willing to help. As long as you attend regularly and stay committed, you'll do well. Personally, I found the structure of having only exams and three assessments per exam wasn't the best fit for my learning style. However, if you're a strong test-taker, this class will likely suit you well.
Dr. C is an engaging lecturer, but the class is very test-heavy—exams are hard and 80% of your grade. No slides, so take detailed notes. Not ideal if you're bad at tests or don't study. Great professor, but be ready for tough, oddly worded exams with written questions.
Hard class no denying, but not impossible. More elbow grease than other classes, so if you're not ready to put in a lot of work don't take this class. However, if you're you'll benefit and learn a lot from it. Super helpful and responsive professor. I flaked off the 1st test bc I didn't know what to expect, but once I put in the work I succeeded.
Don't take this class if you care about your mental health. She collects data on students, she's not here to teach, she's here to do research, at your expense... the class is very test heavy, and the textbook doesn't help that much, she puts a lot of red-herrings in her study guides and lectures to throw students off i think... very unforgiving.
Dr. Canevello may be knowledgeable, but her course is incredibly disorganized and unnecessarily demanding. The workload was extreme with oftentimes with unclear instructions, multiple long assignments each week and responds with passive-aggressive feedback that doesn't actually support learning. Several students withdrew. Take anyone but her.
I don't know what everyone is talking about. She's not that bad if you go to class and stay engaged. The material isn't easy and you can't just coast - you've got to put in a little work and ask questions. Otherwise, yeah, if you don't try, she's not going to give you an A for enrolling in the course.
