This class was a black history class. Of 16 weeks, 13 were devoted to black history. Very little general history was discussed. The professor was very biased against whites in history and not open to any opinion but her own. this was an on-line class, and she would not open the course more than one week in advance. Very Poor Teacher
online class, just began. requirments are over the top. weekly quizzes, online msg board entries - 3 weekly, history wkshop participation required wkly, 2 quizs on plagerism with grade of 100 before we can submit three(3) essays.several exams. assignments can't be done early. over 2 yrs of college & this is ridiculous, teacher not recommended!!!
Expect a lot of work from instructor. You must read every chapter.
Awful professor; ridiculous amounts of petty busywork, no real discussion of anything aside from parroting back what she wants to hear. Way too much workload for an online class.
horrible teacher..never take her class!!
Professor Curry makes her class fun and intresting. She does however give essay format for exams and you do write some term papers. She shows clips that are recent and intresting not boring. Howver you have to be there and pay attention also does not accept late assignments ever.
Took online. WAY too much work for an online course. Requires you online almost every day a few times a day. Reading required everyday!! If you have kids or work outside of this class DO NOT TAKE!!! The only up side is bc its so much work during the semester there is no Final.
I found Dr. Curry easy to communicate with and follow. If you follow her basic instructions, you won't have any problem making an easy A in this class. Her online discussion boards were interesting and her power point lectures were extremely helpful. I highly recommend her.
Way to much work for an on-line class. If you take this class, you better make this is your only one. If you work or you're a full time parent; I wouldn't recommend this instructor. Once you get behind, you will never get caught up. Not only do the chapters go on forever, but she also gives out other reading material that is also required..
Difficult teacher, has alot of biased opinions, and definitely alot of work for you to do. Took online, got a B but deserved an A. Website would go down in the middle of a test, and she would not allow me to re-take the test. Passed this class only because my essays were phenomenal. If you can't write an essay, she will fail you! beware!
She was great! Very helpful. You will have to work and keep up with your assignments. I took her online class and it was very well organized with clear expectations. She answered emails and graded quickly. I did not get the impression that she was biased or **** at all. She really knows her stuff.
Took her online class and every week you have to post a discussion, reply, and quiz every Sunday. takes 5 mins to do you may get hmwk half the time which again takes 5 mins. all exams (and quizzes) are essay form but she gives you poss ?'s which make up your study guide for final. personable techer. great class going to take her again
Dr. Curry is very helpful. She does require you to do a LOT of work. You MUST read your chapters and quizzes are over every chapter. You have a few essays. If you have no time or you are not diciplined do not take this class. If you are a mature adult and want a sweet easy to get along with and overall great teacher I recommend Dr. Curry.
Took as ONLINE course.Very demanding,if you choose to take, make this your only class.Working or have children, avoid!Must treat it as if you are a historian.Lot of secondary source work, she will have you read the book and test on it but uses the secondary sources more when it comes to actual work within the course. She requires essay format in everyt
Most workload of any online class I have had. Way to much for a petty 2000 level class, hist of west civ. She takes her job way too serious. For Quizzes and Tests you are given very small time limit to not only answer multiple choice but write an essay as well on every single quiz and exam. In my opinion a total B!@#H.
Terribly difficult and uncompromising teacher. Unbelievable work load. Felt like I was trying to get a doctorate and this was mostly a black history class. Rude and short in her answers. You need to be a speed reader. Her class will dominate your entire academic schedule. Hard grading on essays. Makes it an english comp too . Never again!
While I took this class I worked fulltime and took a psych class on Sat from 9-3:15...yea busy!! But if you stay on track and dedicated you will do fine! Print the quizzes you take and take them all (they help on the exams) and do ALL of your work. I barely ended up with a B, but given the courseload Im proud of it. She wasn't mean to me at all.
The work load is a lot, and you have to read a bunch, but its a good class. The essays are graded like an English class, which is rather annoying, but you learn a lot in the class. I don't get where one of the raters said it was a black history class, there wasn't much of that in our class...
She wasn't too bad. She used many outside sources for discussion questions. She made a lot of mistakes, but she didn't argue when you pointed them out. The class wasn't really hard and there wasn't really a lot of work.
Horrible class. The work is not really that hard but no zeros go in the grade book in the online class until the end so you never really know what your grade is. Also I was "suspected" of cheating and got a zero on the final. There is no way to cheat in an online class so I don't know what the heck she was thinking. Just not a good teacher to have.
I took this class online. Each day we had to read a chapter, turn in a study guide, post a response to a discussion (that had to be at lease 200 words) and do a quiz. Somedays, she would make us do two chapters. In addition, she made us turn in two essays about slavery. Most of her discussions were about slavery. She focused on slavery excessively.
She makes it clear that she isn't there to babysit. She let's you know when work is graded, what is due, and when it is due. She requires a lot of participation which is great when it comes time for exams because you know your stuff. Slavery is apart of history so yes you will have to read and discuss it. If you do the work, you will pass.Simple.
Took this class online over the summer. I spent 2-3 hours a night on homework, sometimes more. Dr. Curry lets you know from the beginning that she is a busy person too and expects for you to complete the work since you decided to take the class. A lot of the coursework is over slavery, so I hope you're interested in it.
Do not take Dr. Curry. She has unrealistic expectations and assumes you have all the time in the world to do her busywork. Her tests are nearly impossible to study for because the textbook is 99% useless information and you can't get her power points or record her lectures because she does not allow that. She simply makes history harder than it is.
Dr. Curry is the best teacher I have ever had.She isn't going to GIVE you an A but if you do the work you will get it. She makes herself available anytime and gets back to you within 24 hours. When you ask questions she will answer it and if she doesn't know will research it and get back to you. She loves history and it shows!
Dr. Curry is a great teacher! I want to take her again, if I can. She has a student following, that is a great sign, of a great teacher. She will not just give you a passing grade, you will have HW, reading, quizzes and papers. Her tests are bluebook essay. If you do your work and attend, you will do great! I also met some great people in the class
Face-to-face class. Be prepared for a lot of reading. It's not a terribly difficult class but it is time consuming. Along with the textbook there were 2 outside reading books, one that required an essay, with weekly quizzes on the assigned chapters. She makes herself available to students. Gets swayed off topic easily. She was okay.
You will be readying a total of 4 books and 2 books at a time with a weekly written response worksheet. All of her exams are essays! I dropped the class after my first essay of 80, but avg. of 69. Only take this class if you are majoring in History or English because with an average grade of 69 she must think she is an English professor.
Awesome professor & an awesome class, it's very informal, they say they're going for a "coffee shop" vibe. Free COFFEE in the back corner. She is clear about what she wants, and is very quick to get back to you, don't expect to get to write an English paper though, this is a History class and History papers are different than English papers.
I suggest taking history face to face. This was an online class and for the test you had to write essays every other week. Plus 2 discussions a week online and 10 chapter questions a week. Some weeks it was too much work.
Loved, LOVED this class. It was completely interactive, and I felt you learned a lot of history that actually stuck with you. Mostly it was just discussions and three essays. At the end you got to play a interactive history game. It was really fun and it actually helps you understand history better. She's a really cool teacher too.
Professor Curry runs a very unique class. Instead of taking classes, you take a "reaction game." It does require making speeches, however I wouldn't let this discourage you from taking it- I hate speeches and I loved this class. Textbooks that are listed as needed for the class- are definitely needed. I'd recommend renting them (esp the game book)
Doctor Curry did her job. She knows much about history and helped us understand the material. Some of the assignments were not very clear but I still received high A's. There are multiple speeches in the class and the last half of the semester we played a history centered "reaction game." Overall I would recommend for an easy A.
I took her for an online class, she was horrible. I asked questions and her answers were never clear, do not take her.
I took this class in a 3 week mini-mester. This class is definitely a face to face job security class. You have to read the entire textbook plus another for a book review. Not recommended if you have a family or other obligations.
I took her online 12 week class as a dual credit student, dealing with high school, sports, and another dual credit class. You have to read the chapters, it's a lot of reading but you need to. If you work for your A you'll get it, but not unless you do the work. She's very helpful and responds to emails quickly. I would recommend her!
I took this class as a winter mini online. This was really a time consuming course but in the end completely worth it. As long as you do the homework assigned, cite all your sources, and follow her instructions, an A is easy. However, I noticed that this professor is one who if the student doesn't care about their grade, then neither does she.
This professor holds a grudge. I missed the first two days of class and she hated me the rest of the semester. I did chapter questions and she gave me a zero on them because someone else had the same answers.
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! You have been fully warned. She has a Dr. in front of her name and wields her power like so. She doesn't play and gives F's. I should know and I did every last one of my assignments. She EXPECTS way too much and you will always have assignments due everyday. GRAMMAR COUNTS! ESSAYS EVERY SUNDAY! 3 CHAPTERS PER WEEK WITH.
Like insane amounts of homework due in a miniscule amount of time? Then this class if for you! Like being assigned homework due every tues, thursday, friday, and sunday while on thanksgiving vacation? Then step right up, cause this class if for you!
WORST professor I have EVER had in my life. She may be knowledgeable about history but thats where it stops. She doesn't seem to understand history isn't everyone's subject, she's also the department head and her expectations are far too high, especially for an online structured class. Stay away unless you have hours to dedicate to her class only.
2 discussions a week, chapter essay questions, and essay exams. All week. She does not post these assigments until the day before they're due, which kind of defeats the entire purpose of online classes. These assigments are extremely difficult, our class average is 56. Do not take her if you have a job, other classes, or a normal sleeping pattern.
Try your hardest not to take this teacher. She must really have no life outside of her work because she sure likes to assign homework and essays like she has all the time in the world for this. Dont take this teacher if you plan on taking other classes and working. Ridiculous amount of work.
Don't take her online class. How are you gonna make students buy another book on top of their necessary textbook? She request that you go out and buy a book and do a book report which will be a decent portion of your grade. My textbook was already expensive, and now you want me to spend an extra 26 for a book to write a book report? #brokestudent
She is very informative. Took online class and she responded quickly to emails. Requires lots of reading, and effort but I would take her again. Provides no extra credit, but is clear on grading objectives.
Amy Curry is a fantastic teacher. The course I took was a 'role playing game' and was really entertaining and helps you learn history from a whole new perspective. If you love history, I'd highly recommend this teacher. NO tests and the only quizzes you take are for potential extra credit. LOTS of reading and moderate writing (total of 4 papers).
Professor Curry is such an awesome woman, but if you do not like speaking in front of class, I would advise not to take this class. There is only 3 papers and a few speeches, but no written tests AT ALL!
Amazing professor. Super easy to please. If you meet her instructions she gives you a 100 on the assignment, no need to go above and beyond. She sends out constant reminders and is willing to help you outside of class. Fast at responding to emails.
All tests are essays that should be written with thorough knowledge of your reading. Chapter Questions and two discussion boards per week. There are also two required book readings that you have questions to answer about after you finish each and a paper over the two at the end of the semester. Very nice and will answer any questions you have!
I took Curry's 6 week course online and it was super easy. There was a ton of homework, but if you do it, you'll get a good grade. The paper's are annoying, but again, if you do them and follow the rubric, you'll get a good grade. She's super easy to please and I would totally take her class again. She's super straightforward with her expectations.
Dr. Curry is a heck of a teacher. As long as you do your weekly readings and questions you should be fine in the course, BUT YOU MUST READ THE BOOK! No written tests, only papers that she allows you a week to do. She is very strict and doesn't mess around when it comes to history. Lots of debates and class discussions, so be ready to read & speak.
Dr. Curry is a heck of a teacher. As long as you do your weekly readings and questions you should be fine in the course, BUT YOU MUST READ THE BOOK! She is very strict and doesn't mess around when it comes to history. Lots of debates and class discussions, so be ready to read & speak.
Professor Amy is a good professor and passionate about History. However, be prepared to work!! Do not take this class if you don't have time to do the work. 2 Discussions and 1-2 Chapter Questions each week, 3 Essay Exams , 2 Book Tests and 1 Final Book Paper in her 12wk class. As long as you keep up and do the work you will be fine.
Professor Curry is an awesome teacher I learned so much about history in this class. You do have to participate pretty much every day and give speeches. She makes history class fun. Her Exams are essays-500 words or more. Homework due every week from chapter questions and sometimes more homework to do. Overall she is awesome!
The very first day of Curry's class, she had the syllabus laid out in detail. Though it seemed like a lot at the time, it really just shows she makes clear what is needed to make an A and she truly wants her students to learn. This was an online class, and she sent an email out each week telling us what was due each day. Would take her again!
Professor Currys class is really fun! if youre a fan of immersive classes take her react to the past classes, its really interesting and i liked it a lot! theres no tests, just a few papers to write but she has really specific criteria and theyre honestly really easy to write. also you HAVE to buy the books for this class for the homework
One of the most horrible professors I have ever had. I ALWAYS get A+ in my class, but not this one. STUPID!!!! She will not give you a 100 so DONT count on it.
I took this class as a mini mester of three weeks so it was obviously a lot of work, plus it was an online class, which made it harder. She explains very good what she wants you to do. You do need the textbook. She is always available, she responds to mails super fast. I think she is a great teacher.
I took this class as a minimester as an online class and it was the worst mistake in my life. I did everything to turn in good work, took hours answering the chapter questions and she always managed to find something wrong with them, she does give feedback but not good one. I didn't want this class to affect my gpa so I dropped it.
This class is different. You act out history instead of regular lectures. You will play about three games or more throughout the semester, you will be assigned a role, and you have to act our your role and change history. Attendance is mandatory, a lot of of reading, but easy class! She's a super nice and caring professor!
I am currently taking her online course and WOW! She lays out everything needed to pass in the syllabus and sends weekly reminders; which is great. Her discussion posts have to be 200 words (Tuesday/Thursday), responses 100. InQuizitive due every Sunday, and book reports. Just a lot of work but necessary to really learn.
This class was by far the most enjoyable course I took this semester! The assignments are routine, straight forward, and open note. All of the exams are essays (open note) and there's 3 grades per week so its not hard to get and keep an A. The professor is really helpful and keeps the class interesting, even for an online class.
Professor Amy Curry is one of the best professors ever! I took my world history course with her (online) and it was so engaging and fun. You have a discussion and an inquizitive chapter once a week. Three essay exams. and two games. The games were very fun, creative, & engaging. She's a nice and understanding prof. MUST TAKE!
The online class, you have 3 exams in the course in total, which are all 500 word papers surrounding a question that the prof provides. The 11th pillar game is EXTREMELY important to attendance, so don't miss out if it's assigned to you. Otherwise, this class is a breeze with the usual weekly discussions and Inquisitive. Great course layout!
If you enjoy writing and you know how to put information onto a page Amy Curry's class is for you. Even if youre not good at writing the weekly assignments are writing your opinion or knowledge on a historical event, and graded by participation not necessarily the writing. I'm not a very good writer and this class helped expand my writing skills .
Extremely organized and work is easily understood. If you have an issue or question she responds to emails very promptly. Being that I took a mini-mester, the workload was torrent. Easy class if you do not procrastinate. The professor really makes sure you understand and she wants you to succeed.
The way she grades is quite odd. She doesn't give good feedback whatsoever. She grades off the rubric which is nice but she will only give the rubric back and no feedback. I e-mailed her asking for feedback and she just told me one thing even though she had deducted 20 points off one of my essays, not very helpful to say the least.
She is a tough grader, gives a freaking ton of work, and the reacting games just gave me anxiety lol
Online book, and not expensive, yet i felt the wording was too complex. The exams are essays, I hate essays but i still did well. She is very organized. She sticks to a plan the whole semester, I have never experienced that and it makes the course easier. The same routine every week, only different chapters. No surprises, sticks to her routine.
Prof. Curry's class is a ton of fun! Throughout the semester, you get to play games that put you IN the world of the people and culture's you are studying. Would definitely recommend 2311 and/or 2312. Also, as professors go, Dr. Curry is very understanding and considerate of her students. Fun class!
Dr. Curry was pleasant and everything is extremely organized. Two discussions and two quizzes per week if you take her 8 week course. She has 3 papers over a given topic/rubric to follow and usually gives you 3-4 days to work on them. I really enjoyed her class and would go out of my way to take another class by her again.
Follow Dr. Curry's expectations and do your work. It is pretty simple concept. She is not expected to hold your hand, it is college. She grades extremely fair but you need to follow simple instructions. If you don't want to learn anything, and don't want to do work, then pick another course. You're not in high school anymore!
Just do her work and submit it on time and you will pass.
Shes not a bad teacher but I found her practices a bit antiquated. Shes funny and her lectures are interesting but Im a 30+ hour 4.0 (added to explain that Im not lazy) and she gives a stupid, ridiculous amount of busy work compared to other classes. If I learned much from the busy work Id be ok, but I learned next to nothing from it.
Taking her now as a mini and it is by far my biggest regret. I use rate my professors before I schedule any class and her rating is way too high. Discussion and inquisitive is due every day. Exams are essays. Plus a book report. I imagine her regular courses wouldn't be that bad because there would be time, but I wish I could drop this class.
ABSOLUTELY NO. I hate this class I wish I could drop. She said I plagiarized my book test when I did not I read the book twice.
Professor Curry is absolutely amazing!! I 100% recommend her online classes! Her "reacting to the past" games are SO fun!! She responds to emails quickly, grades fairly, and makes really interesting topics for the discussion posts. Just study the book, engage in the games, and spend some time on the essay exams and you'll do fine ;)
Dr. Curry was a really good professor. You can tell she cares about her students. The games were fun and I honestly learned more about history that way than reading a text book and testing over it. The papers are a bit extensive but as long as you do your research and pay attention you will do well.
Dr. Curry's class consisted of two Reacting to the Past games where students take on a role in a historical event. There are 6 papers in the class, along with a reflection paper. The papers and the class is pretty easy, just make sure to participate in the games and the papers are pretty short.
This class was extremely hard, she was extremely strict, graded extremely strict, we had many assignments each week, averaged about 6/7.
I would not take this class unless you are really into history, from my experience, she was very intense and not a good fit for me personally. She gave off uncaring and detached vibes, which some might prefer, I just don't. To someone who just needs an American history credit to graduate, I would recommend looking for a more relaxed professor.
I loved being in her class, I actually put attention in the lectures because she knows her stuff and you can tell it actually interests her. I'd take it again, and I usually hate history
Professor Curry is great! She is straightforward and clear in her expectations. Read the syllabus for everything you need. I am taking her as a winter mini, and she is truly great. The material is easy, and book based. If you need her to open a test a little bit earlier than it is set to open, she will do it as long as you communicate with time.
Loved this class. The class consists of 3 main "games", meaning attendance and participation are definitely required. We also had an Inquisitive due once a week before class, which were pretty easy. No major tests, and less than 10 real lectures throughout the semester. Overall, one of the easiest classes I've taken thus far, and super interesting!
Good professor. Dr. Curry is straight forward. She will also respond outside of class and gives great feedback on papers. There were about 4 papers. Really kept the class attentive and made it interesting.
Mrs. Curry was a great professor. She cares about her students but beware; she is a harsh grader. Her class consisted of lectures, discussions, essays, weekly readings, and a lot of bookwork. As long as you put in the effort and hard work into this class, you should pass.
Dr. Curry has been a great professor over the last two semesters I took her and a mentor for going on to pursue my degree in history. The games are fun and get you involved in your research and role. If I could take her again I would!
Prof. Curry is very uncaring and cold when talking to her students and I wish I never signed up for this class. There are two discussion posts and a quiz every week and there are four papers due throughout the semester, two of which qualify as an exam, so study up. Do not take this class unless you really truly enjoy learning about history.
Professor Curry is a great professor although she is a very tough grade she gives amazing feedback on them, and wants you to learn about how you can improve. She response very fast to emails if you have a questions and I make sure you read the syllabus because she is very clear about want she wants in the class and make sure you READ the due dates
Instead of tests, we had 3 games where we were given a role in a certain historical event and then tried to vote like how our character would.
I took this class as a mini-mester and it is very well organized. Yes, it is time consuming but not very hard, as expected with a mini-mester. She has all of the modules and assignments for the week so you can complete them early. She is a great teacher with good feedback on the essays!
Dr. Curry makes history come alive. Like, I didn't even realize how cool U.S. history was until her class. She's always got some game or activity to make things interesting, and she's so quick to answer questions. I'm not the best at history, but she made me feel like I can understand it.
Curry is goated. Very chill, understanding. 30% from open note essay exam, the rest is from easy assignments and participation. Also she utilizes this history role play debate format to help you learn from different historical perspectives. Very fun if you like acting. EASY A if you try just a little bit.
Her teaching style was not for me... VERY PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE.
Enjoy, she has weekly 500 words essays, but her classes are quite entertaining and she has personality.
Overall I loved her class. We played board games and acted out times in history. I am not a super social person and was never good in history but I feel I actually learned and I had fun. Your assignments are literally play a game and write a short essay based on an outline she writes for you. 10/10 recommend her class.
Love Professor Curry she does a lot of fun reacting and board games and i recommend taking her class if you like to have fun. She is also very caring and will help you out
the games we played during the semester were a bit overwhelming at times due to how active we had to be, especially for an online class but she was always quick to answer any questions and to help. she's not a tough grader at all but work still needs to be put in! overall a good professor to have
