good teacher, however she is kinda hard, you learn lots and lots
Easy class, lots and lots of reading and notetaking though
tons of reading and note-taking, and she talks the entire class time
pitiful
She is so nice and ALWAYS more than willing to help! I have her for an online class and everytime I email her she responds that day! Amazing teacher and really cares about her students.
I took her online course, and found it to be an EASY course. I never studied for her quizes and exams, and I still passed the class with a B+ (only a few points shy from an A). Just be sure to do all the disscussions and postings online :)
Very helpful and cares about the students and how they do, however, BORING!!!! She will give you tons of notes and talks the entire class period.
Had her online course during the summer. I had over a 50 on the clep test for this class, 2 points shy of passing at ucf and I found this class very difficult. Here notes are horrible, she does not encourage me to learn. Tests are hard and so are quizes.
I had her for her summer C online course. She was very helpful and I learned a lot; although she was not easy. She gives assignments that are due every week and no late assignments are accepted. Her tests and quizzes are hard.
unhelpful
As a senior history major I had to go back and take Western Civ I since I skipped over it. Darty has no idea what she is talking about. I had to correct her about 3 times per class because she was saying incorrect things.
I took her online class. Her tests and quizzes are hard, gives WAY to many assignments that she expects to be so perfect and lengthy when they are worth 5 points. She's strict about when things are due. The class is way too hard, but she is pretty nice.
2 words for the online class, BORING & TEDIOUS. There's too much of everything, reading, quizes, tests, discussions, ola's.This is not an "at your lesiure" class, shes strict on turn-in times (8pm, very inconvenient). 6+ page term paper isn't ni
Easy class if you are interested in history. Stay on track with the reading and all your weekly assignments (discussions, olas, quizzes) will be easy. Tests are pretty simple if you take notes while you read the chapters and her online notes. HELPFUL! :)
THIS CLASS IS A LOT OF WORK!!!!!!!! She is very very nice and very on top of things, but this class is extremely tedious. If you take the online course, it is not at leisure..there are a lot of inconvenient due dates. Think before you take.
One word: TEDIOUS!Too many assignments due in short time,if you want an A you really have to work for it.6pg. term paper on a hypothetical situation, "WHAT IF" this happened-pain in the arse.10quizzes 3 tests 10OLA's and 10 discussions. tons of
I took the online 2010 course. A lot of work, but worthwhile. She's a fair/somewhat easy grader. Show her some effort and you'll get a B easily. One thing: tests aren't exactly at student's convenience. They usually open from 5AM to 8PM on Mondays.
I took it online and it was a great class. Weekly assignments and a 6 pg. term paper, but it is very easy to get an A since she offers extra credit. I easily had over a 90% without trying too hard. She emails you back very quickly too! :D
This was not a bad class. I took it online. You have to stay ontop of your reading. Never met her but she seems like a nice lady. The term paper is not that bad because you know your topic from the beginning of the semester.
Took the online class. Good teacher. Very helpful. Assignments and quizzes are easy. The tests are 1/2essay and 1/2mult. The essay she gives you ahead of time to prepare for so it is easy to get an A. The mult. choice part is tough though.
This class was really hard. You will learn a lot though. Online class-- it's when everybody has chance to speak out... and, of course, to be graded on it. Very helpful teacher. E-mails back very fast.
This class is an easy A if you do all the assignments. Yeah, it's a lot of minor assignments, but they are there to help boost your grade. Very much recommended!!!!! Take her for an A.
This teacher does not know the difference between Gen. Ed. history and PostGrad. history. If you want to study on a Gen. Ed. level, she is the wrong teacher, if on a PostGrad. level than you can take her. She's way overboard.
Don't know what the other students were offered by her to write this comments. However, I found her way to hard, too many assignments. A reading and discussion assignment every week, besides the material. Quizzes and term papers on top of all this.
She's a really great teacher. There's a lot of work to keep up with, but it's really not that hard at all if you do the reading. She's always willing to go out of her way to help students with anything. I would definately recommend her!!
OK person, but way too much material too study. Many assignments, written essays and discussions. Besides that we had to study things not out of the book. Before the test we had to write 3 essays and were asked about them too.Would never take her again.
Took her online, but never would take her again. So many assignments and other work, this course took up more time than any other course I've ever taken.
Great class, Darty does not grade any of the writing assin. hard at all. Just a quiz and a two paragraph discussion each week with three tests and a term paper. The online class was a breeze, the tests are open book and there's extra credit at the end.
This was a very difficult class. The discussion questions were often confusing and sometimes not even with questions that could be answered by the material. I would rather take a real class than have to sit through this again.
Good teacher. Exams and stuff, you have to read the material of coarse. Should do fine if you do that. Allows for extra credit throughout the coarse and at the end of the year.
If you are a history major then take her but if you are just taking this for gen ed its wayyy too much work. I am a pre med student and this took up so much of my time I hardly had time for my chemitry classes that are sooo much more important. Ands its not an easy A at all!
I took her online class-if you read the chapter every week you will almost always get 100%. If you don't read, then you could always hunt for the answers while taking the test...not very effective though. She gives lots of extra credit, and will help with anything you need. I'm taking her again
This class was okay and a lot work. But I hate history so it was better than going to an actual class and listening to a lecture about something I dont care about. She is really nice and gets back to you quickly.
Amy Darty is way OVER BOARD!!!!! So much work to do, quizzes, discussions, papers, exams, it will take most of your time. Don’t think that you’ll do better in this class because it’s online, you’re wrong. If you don’t like History, she’ll make you HATE it even more. AVOID!!!
alot of work but she is very sweet. i think alot of work is necessary for this class online. i liked her alot
Darty is a very fair professor and her class is to the point. The tests and quizzes are open book and the extra credit is not hard. There is a term paper that you pick the topic and has an easy grading rubric. Take her class!
great online class, tests and quizzes not hard, lots of assignments, but they're all quick and easy. She doesn't grade tough on writing and is very good with communication. She has a great teaching method, I actually learned and was interested, and the book was not your basic boring history book.
Worst teacher i have ever had. Not only did the tests have questions that you would have never known to study for,but her discussions were confusing and her project was ridiculous. She didnt give any help when I asked and basically told me that I wasnt doing my job as a student if i didnt understand
Most neurotic teacher! I have OCD & she makes me look easy-going. She boxes U in w/petty restrictions 4 assignments that U stop learning & start trying 2fit her retarded standards. She diminishs UR writer's voice. WORST teacher ever! Supposed 2learn history but learned 2B neurotic instead.
her online class is busy work. she requires: readings, discussions (13), term paper, exams (3) 1/3 of your grade, web activities, quizzes (13), modules, the list goes on. Would not recommend. I am an A student, but I'll prob get a C. Take her class only ifyou have nothing else to do.
I wasnt interested in this class but if i was i would hate it now. her discussions are hard to understand and tests are confusing. it seems as though there could be more than 1 correct answer. i hated this class. if you like history, dont take this class. she'll make you hate it!
I had Mrs. Darty for her online class and it wasn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be. It wasn't an insane amount of work and you have the option to work ahead, she also is very good about getting back to you if you have any questions. If you do what you need to you will have no problem.
Her online class is ridiculous, she expected you to have no other work to do besides her class. There was so much petty work that half the time you forget to even do it. Her weekly discussions are long and tedious, and her tests are ridiculous too she's also a meticulous grader which makes it harder
this class is an easy A as long as you do the assignments. I took it online, there's a discussion and quiz every week, but they're easy to make A's on, and they really rack up the points. By the end of the semester, I only need a 25 on the final to get an A, and I didn't work that hard.
Online classes don't get much better than this...easy weekly discussions and quzies, test questions given in advance, and an easy to write paper. Only people who don't get an A in here are those who can't manage a simple schedule of assignments. Such a nice lady too!

This class was really easy. There was a lot of work but not too hard. She gives a lot of extra credit. She also grades fairly. I would take her again. I HATE HATE HATE history and I made an A.
this class stunk. The www course was all stupid work. I got a B but didn't learn anything. AVOID!
Darty is a good teacher and a nice woman. Effort is required for an A, but we are in college. I liked her a lot.
This is college not highschool everyone makes her seem unfair. You will run into much harder prof than her. As long as you do the work as tedious as it is and are capable of reading the syllabus completely- you will get an A (and I failed the tests so the work backs you up). I hate AMH but managed to diligently work. Online course rvw helps too.
I took both www. classes, and they were great. The workload is not tough at ALL--- assignments are due on Fridays and Sundays every time. If you do the work you can easily get an A. She also offers a lot of extra credit. I'd take her again if I could.
She was a very good teacher. She was always there to help out if you had any questions. The class wasn't that bad. I kind of enjoyed it and definitly learned something
www class is so easy, workload is barely there and fast to complete, easy A, take it!
There is one assignment due each week, with 2 parts (1 friday, 1 sunday), and a 20 Q quiz due too. The tests are fairly easy, though half of it is essay, but you can do them ahead of time. There's a lot of small assignments which sucks, but they're easy to do and help get you lots of points. She's a better teacher than most others would be. TAKE!
Good professor. As long as you complete your assignments you'll get a good grade. One quiz due every sunday, one discussion due every friday, and response to the discussion due by every sunday, and exams every 3weeks or so. But its all open book...piece of cake! Would recommend you take her instead sitting through a boring lecture about history!
Easiest prof I've ever had! ALL quizzes and tests are online, remember to do the quizzes and respond ontime to the discussions and do the extra credit, easy A, if you have about 1 1/2 a week to put in.
TAKE HER! Easiest prof ever, the quizzes are online and straight (word for word) from the book. 3 Exams, all online, give you an hour and a half to take them. Easy 30 points of extra credit, remember to do the posts. Easiest class ever and she is super nice and will help you if you have any questions.
Nice professor...very helpful...just do the modules on time and read the material and you will do fine...made history a lot easier than some professors I know and I still learned the same amount of information...I very much recommend taking it online if you can...especially with Mrs. Darty!
She was very nice to me :)
Very nice helpful teacher! I found that the quizzes and test were alittle difficult.
I thought this class wa pretty straight forward, but it required a lot of work! There is a discussion & response to write and a quiz to take every friday & there is an online group project. It's pretty hard to stay on top of things.
Take the online class with Mrs. Darty! It does require some work and time, but easiest work you will have to do..Easy A, especially for a history class...You never meet her so everything is online, open-book, open-note, etc. Discussion/Response and Quiz every week but its sooooo easy! Quizzes and Tests are word-for-word from the book! EASY A!
Mrs. Darty is extremely helpful when you need her, and the class is pretty easy. As long as you do the work you'll be fine!
She was terrific!!! Awesome class!!!!!!
Mrs. Darty was awesome! She responds to her mail ASAP and helps you out with everything! Super nice and super helpful, as long as you do your assignments on time--easy A :)
I took this class online and it was easy and enjoyable! She is very fast at responding to e-mails and very understanding. The mid term and final are mostly from the book, and all of the assignments are easy. just make sure to turn everything in on time and you'll do great!
Mrs Darty was super sweet! I took her online course amh 2010, and i did bad on the 2 tests, but i turned in all that EASY work every week and did the EASY extra credit and got an "A". I didnt ever use my book. She curves grades. I loved this class... YOU LEARN and get an EASY A!!!!
Darty is a very nice teacher. She expects you to do 1 ESSAY, 1 Discussion, and 1 Response each week. It gets annoying. But it beats going to class and taking tests. There are 2 Tests, a Midterm and a Final. Those are the only times you will ever need your book. She takes forever to post grades, but overall pretty descent teacher i would take her!
This was my second time taking Darty for AMH. 2020 was so easy, and 2010 was just as easy! It requires work every week, but if you have any common sense, you'll get an A in the class. Tests are worth 200 points of a total 980. If you get 100's on all the assignments (which is very possible), you can fail both tests (which are open book) and get an
She's really cool. Definitely recommend taking her,
Darty is very helpful and wants everyone to succeed. requires work every week. not too hard. you are in college. the HIP projects were a little difficult. dont wait till the end to do them. tests are average. would take her again.
I love Mrs. Darty. :) The workload in this course is demanding, but fairly simple. The HIP project is stressful but you'll learn a lot. Some material/instructions can seem unclear... just send an email and Mrs. Darty will clarify anything for you. She's very helpful and wants her students to do well. Can't wait to take AMH 2020 in the fall. :)
Took her for AMh 2020i online US history. She would never e-mail you back when you ask a question and has no other way of directly contacting her so I hope you have absolutely no problems- like when we had a problem with taking the online midterm and couldn't reach her to ask if it was really a 5%. Purchase the paper book IT'S WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY
Darty is awesome! She really wants you to succeed and learn. There were a lot of technical problems beyond her control. She was constantly trying to fix them. The problems were with webcourses. Simple, striaghtforward class. DO NOT procrastinate on the HIP project. You will regret it. Great Professor!
I took the online class. The syllabus is written a foreign tongue (very confusing). The woman does not answer e-mails. Luckily I knew what was going on in the class and all my grades were posted. My roommate had many issues and wrote 394739389 emails and never got a response. Way to go AMY DARTY! I hope you enjoyed not working this semester.
I had her for AMH 2010 and 2020, and I think its a great online class. Just do the weekly assignment and don't wait until the end of the semester to do the HUGE HIP project! Lots of tech problems, not her fault and she constanty emailed to update us on the issues. Can retake midterm and final! Take the class!!
I took her online for AMH 2020. It's a lot more work than just taking the actual class face-t0-face lecture. Submit either a quiz/discussion post every week. Tests are sort of painstaking since the ques are on minute details. There are 12 individual biography profiles (1-2 pgs) you have to submit at the end as a final proj.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The HIP project that you have to do is rediculous. There is always something due and the tests are on the smallest details. If I could do it all over again i would have never taken it. I am in my last semester and this is the worst class I have ever taken. Trust me its not worth the hassle.
Took it online;probably more difficult than lecture. HIP project is ridiculous buthI did do it in 3 days so it can be done. Its a 12-15 page paper on historical figures.Tests are 100 questions, ABSURD but can take them twice. Nice professor, answers quickly and is willing to help. History sucks but the work was worthwhile to taking it online to me
Like everyone else says. HIP is a LOT of work, it's not the end of the world but not fun, I spent MANY hours researching. Tests are hard! very detailed... you have to basically find he exact sentence to know. However, not too much work throughout. Lecture would probably be easier. She answers to emails within 48 hours. Not bad overall.
Follow deadlines, do all quizzes and assignments. Discussions take some work but its not hard. The HIP project is a lot of work but not impossible, try to keep up with it, dont do it the last week like I did! You'll be overwhelmed! Great teacher, she is so sweet and helpful!
Overall a nice class. Good instructor. Easy class. Negatives: Many clarity issues, especially with the HIP project. Online group work does not work out - ever. Do your best to deal with it.
The professor shows a great deal of interest in her students no doubt, but her class is organized horribly. She tests on the most ridiculous details. I learned nothing in this course that I didn't learn in 6th grade American History. I took this class because I needed another class for my FA requirements for my last semester. I got nothing from it.
Not recommended. Took online and wish I hadn't taken it at all. Half your grade is based on a ridiculous, unorganized project characterized by 3rd grade topics at a wholly unnecessary difficulty. Quizzes and discussions are pointless. Save your time and sanity and stay far away.
The online section of the class isn't too bad. The discussions and quizzes are easy if you just put a little effort into them and actually read the text. The VCHP project is involved, but not difficult if you complete everything in a timely manner. 50% of your grade comes from the project though, so actually work hard on it. Overall recommended.
This is undoubtedly the most convoluted and ridiculous online class at UCF. She is very hypocritical, a harsh grader, with a 35-page syllabus(hint), and extremely disorganized. 10-pg paper on erroneous ancient topic, but you'll end up writing 40+ pgs for entire class. Tests are on most minute and irrelevant details. What a drag! PLEASE AVOID!
Oops. Bottom review about Amy Darty is for EUH 2000. Once again, the HUM 2210 review is an error and meant for her EUH 2000 online class. Sorry and thanks.
horrible online class youll end up doing twice the work you would in normal campus class. Quiz questions come from anywhere and discussions are long and complicated bot to mention a 15 page project that is never explained how to do.
She is AWFUL. AWFUL. AWFUL. She is not clear, never wiling to help, assignments are posted mid-week and expected to be turned in by the end of the week. PLEASE avoid. Late on grading.. not clear on ANY assignment. JUST HORRIBLE. AVIOD!!!!!!!
For Online class, there's a lot of work.6 discussion posts, 7 page report, weekly quiz,& 3 hr long midterm/final. However, if you don't wait until the last minute, it's fine. She is quick to respond to emails and is very nice. I had no interest in this but was still able to choose a topic for report that suited my interests as an engineering major.
I'm confused by all the negative comments below! I've had her for both EUH 2000 & 2001. Although there is alot of busy work (standard for online class) everything is clear and she is such a relaxed grader. I didn't even try and got an A. She said western civ is her passion, which is the only reason I can think that people didn't like her for AMH HU
If you actually put in a little bit of time, you can pass this class with no problems. Quizzes are bassed on the readings. Mid Term and Finals are almost directly off the quizzes. You do the work you pass the class. The only reason someone can talk bad about the structure of her class is because they procrastinated and waited too long. Solid Class
She likes to switch her classes up alot. We had to do these TERRIBLE source assignments papers once a week! I had her for EUH 2001 and it was pointless busy work, but easy. The source assignments are like writing a 3 page paper once a week. Add on 40pgs of reading once a week, An impossible quiz, two 3 hr. tests, and stupid discussion essays! eekk!
The online course seemed really complicated and overwhelming at first, but it all makes sense when you process it. Makes herself very available and holds chat sessions 4 times a semester. If you do all your work you will get at least a B. wish she gave more feedback on essays and other writing. 4/5
Absolutely terrible. She makes the worst assignments i have ever seen, which ask the dumbest most pointless questions about things that aren't in the book. The web links where the information supposedly come from are useless and unnecessarily lengthy. I regret taking this class every day, i want my time and money back. Learned nothing.
Class was a lot of busy work for an online class. The myhistorylab assignments were pointless and often didn't make sense. The group project I hated for an online class it would be different if it was a face to face class where you knew each other. Okay class besides that.
Lots of busy work. I've always enjoyed history but I disliked this class. It's definitely passable but I wouldn't recommend taking history with Darty if you want to enjoy the course. I took it online and had to partake in a group project which defeats the purpose of taking an online class.
Only been in the class for one week and already hating it. For a gen ed online class, this is absolutely ridiculous. Instead of actually teaching, she just gives you 300 other links to go research yourself. Take any other teacher if you can, otherwise you'll regret it.
Quite a ridiculous workload for a 3 credit hour class. Even after reading the material it's pretty hard to get an A on the quizzes. Most of my quiz answers came from online as opposed to the book. I'd have to say she's the worst professor of my collegiate career.
Overall decent class. It was a lot of work and the midterm and final were horrible! I kept between a A and a B in the class. If you take this class, be ready for a lot of work!
Seems confusing and difficult at first, but really not that bad! CTQ each week are confusing but she doesn't grade too harsh. Makes herself very available if you need help! My history lab are easy points
The class is (unnecessarily) labor intensive. Peer reviews, a group project, required group collaboration (totally ridiculous), research papers, and weekly research assignments make this class something you need to take when all other classes are "Light Loads". I took this class with ENG1102, and my semester was a disaster.
Omg this professor is out of her mind with all of the work she gives. The work is do able, but very tedious. She gives a module assignments and a response due every week. Each section A research paper, and a group research paper.
PRAYING THERE WILL BE A WAY FOR ME TO WITHDRAW. SHE MAKES NO SENSE EVER IN HERE DIRECTIONS AND THE AMOUNT OF WORK IS OUTRAGEOUS. AS A SENIOR IN OTHER HIGHER LEVEL COURSES I CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW HER WORKLOAD IS SO HEAVY FOR A GEN ED. CREDIT. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Prof Darty is a nice/helpful lady BUT if you can avoid this class do so! I took this class to fulfill my geneds and I honestly wish my counselor never recommended it! I found myself doing busy work for this class every weekend for the entire semester. The amount of work that she gives is ridiculous. If you can avoid the class, do so
Professor Darty is very nice and very helpful. There is a lot of work to this class, but it is typically not very difficult. If you work hard you will do well
This class is alright. Each week you'll do some online busy work, take a quiz, and do a lengthy discussion post with two responses. Midterm, Final, and one research project at the end of the semester which can be a paper or presentation, but the rubrics are very unclear. I didn't learn a whole lot, but Western Civ is mandatory for History majors.
Professor Darty is nice and helpful. The workload is quite small for a 3 credit hour course. I did homework one day a week and I would be done. It is an easy A. However, Darty can be very unclear in her instructions and you are pretty much on your own at times. She is happy to help if you email her though. Overall, easy online class.
This instructor is absolutely horrible online. I love history, but this course taught by this instructor is the most unbearable I have ever encountered in many years. It is so bad that since I was pursuing a history degree for personal rather than career reasons, thinking I may have to take her again has caused me to reconsider a degree from UCF.
This class was pretty easy. It is an online class; you're pretty much on your own. Nothing was too hard. Don't be intimidated by the course load or the Final Paper.
Sure, the course work isn't that difficult, but if you do not have much time or patience, AVOID THIS CLASS. You have 15 mini quizzes, a chapter exam, and essay(4-5pgs)due every week. Plus, there is also an additional essay and discussions that you have to do as well as a group project. As a history major, I found this class to be pretty unbearable.
I understand students who have difficulty spelling simple words correctly complain about teachers, but her course is really very helpful. Yes there are assignments, but it's a collegiate course. Extra weblinks and MHLs were interesting.
I was intimidated by the workload at first but you'll get the hang of it. There's an MHL assignment every week and writing group discussion. The MHL gives you the correct answer and multiple attempts and the discussion questions aren't bad just tedious. Test were hard, but only two. Teaching yourself through reading. Final project was pretty simple
The work load is time consuming, but not that difficult. She really gives you the benefit of the doubt if you make mistakes. The class was interesting and the material is well organized. At first, I wanted to drop this class because of the apparent workload, but you really get used to it and it becomes much easier.
If you struggle with history and especially writing then don't take AMH with this professor. I struggle with both and the weekly essays are dreadful : MyHistoryLab is easy points but the CTQ's are ridiculous.
Do not take amh2010 with this professor. DO NOT DO IT. For a gen ed class the work load is absolutely insane. Weekly papers and online homework due along with a semester project and weekly peer review assignments. I spend more time on this class than my more important classes. She also takes points off essays for no reason. Take with a diff prof!
This is a class that is supposed to be for gen eds yet she treated it as if it was a graduate level course. The work load was ridiculous and as a student who is NOT majoring in history it was definitely a bit much. I understand college level courses are expected to be extensive but this was over the top. We have other classes to worry about.
She assigns a multiple paragraph paper every week, on top of the online book work we have to do weekly. She never has the paper graded by the time you turn in the next three. Her notes don't help that much, and the papers she assigns have such long, run-on sentences that it's hard to follow what it's asking. They are also VERY loosely related.
I loved her!! If you have her from 6-850pm, you will most likely be there the full time, but her lectures are great! She makes history fun &easy to learn, she writes notes on the board and tells everything like it a giant story so it is easy to pay attention. Only 3 exams including the final. 7 quizzes (5 unannounced) but simple, easy short answer.
Absolutely outrageous online class! Only 3cr hr but feels like 8. Constant busy work, essays every week, reading, endless discissions, TWO (!!!) enormous term projects with no break from the other stuff. Missing a couple of these countless assignments will prevent you from having an A. Ruined my GPA and desire to get a minor in history. STAY AWAY!!
Amy Darty hates writing, so your only "essays" are on the test, and they are set up to be more like bullet points on time lines. There is one real essay, but it's basically an interview of someone born before 1950. Her lectures are engaging and interesting. She makes history fun. Do not skip class, her lectures contradict the book sometimes.
A heavy workload for such a simple class, easy assignments, just a lot to do. Also, I have a hard time finding content. Not many modules are streamlined, you do need to go into multiple folders just to find the information you need. Good feedback and overall a decent class to take, if you have to take it online.
-Very kind/helpful; high standards -Modules/ assignment requirements/ rubrics disorganized and hard to find -Three hours MyHistoryLab (MHL) work/week; Other AMH2010 classes didn't have MHL -Heavy writing, even for a Gordon rule class; Eight chapter essays w/ 3 scholarly sources plus one research paper w/ 10 scholarly sources
Very kind and helpful but high standards. Modules, assignment requirements, and rubrics were disorganized and hard to find. Three hours of MyHistoryLab (MHL) work a week. Other AMH2010 classes didn't have MHL. Heavy writing even for a Gordon rule class. Eight chapter essays w/ 3 scholarly sources plus one research paper w/ 10 scholarly sources.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR !!! It was awful, so much work every week and she doesn't even teach you anything you basically teach yourself! Her assignments are confusing and everything is so disorganized. Just stay far away from this professor.
There are feedback papers after each chapter that you have to read in the online textbook. Per section in the chapter, there is a quiz and at the end of the entire chapter, a test that counts for the most. Other than that and the papers, there is unit feedback on peers. Easy class, but TAKE NOTES, and have them open during the tests/quizzes.
An excessive amount of work for a 2000 level course. There aren't that many assignments, but the amount of reading that is required out of you is insurmountable. The class is very disorganized and the assignments lack clarity in their instructions. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this professor.
I am a straight A student who doesn't have any issues with putting in hard work The entire class is a joke You are required to read and do assignments out of Revel while simultaneously writing a five paragraph essay every week with sources that look like they were the first thing she found on google Also the class ends with TEN 5 PARAGRAPH ESSAYS
I'm a strictly online student, so it's hard to have any teachers really make an impact. Professor Darty was absolutely wonderful. Her class was easy as long as you do the work. She cares about her students and tries to make her discussions interesting. Lots of quizzes from online textbook, but they're easy as long as you even just skim it, no exams
Pretty straight forward class. You need to complete work and quizzes in Pearson. Then every Thursday you will complete four in total paragraph relating to the chapters in Pearson and also comment on other student discussion, in the end you will work in a group doing same thing except you doing it for all the chapters. Very easy class.
Graded on online textbook quizzes (I c&p the ch. into a word doc to look back for quizzes), discussion posts (based relating provided sources to textbook), responses (relating discussion posts to certain themes), & final. Many got confused since the class was split into 2 teams, which made doing ur own work difficult. Only do ur teams assignments.
The class is very poorly organized and extremely time consuming. The readings are extremely boring. I used to like history, this class has made me absolutely hate it.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Very disorganized, and irresponsible with her time. I emailed her several times and never received a response. Graded my work unfairly and made me drop a whole letter grade for something she was responsible for. Her final was only open 24 hours, and she never gave an advanced notice for it.
All I have to say is stay away. This is possibly the worst teacher I've ever had in my life. The amount of writing that has to be done in this class is insane.
Class is extremely disorganized. Important information is hidden and buried under irrelevant extra stuff. Examples and prompts don't match requirements. Professor takes points off papers and provides NO feedback for improvement. Workload is excessive and time consuming. Not hard, but extremely tedious and poorly outlined so expect to be lost often.
Just dont. Trust me.
TONS of menial online homework, with 2-3 chapters due every few days, with quizzes for each, as well as a ridiculous amount of discussion posts and a completely unrelated final exam. Just don't do it
A ridiculous workload for a GEP class. A week for this class has us reading 2-3 chapters, which is fine on its own, but also assigns module source analyses (3 for each chapter, 24-27 PER UNIT.) and spark posts, which is essentially a social media post. I am an IT kid, and all of my major-specific classes are far easier w/ 1/2 the workload.
Her grading policies made no sense. She either takes weeks to grade an assignment or two hours. Makes it hard to know what your grade is in the class.
not bad but could be more organized and too many assignments
She's not mean by any means, in fact, she seems quite kind. The work isn't even difficult actually. The main issue that I have with her class is the sheer amount of tedious writing that you have to do in order to pass. You basically write between 14-18 essays and have to buy an interactive textbook that provides 3 quizzes per chapter. You burn out.
While there is a lot of reading, the PTC's for each unit are clear and she gives you multiple sources to choose from which best interests you. She responds to emails very quickly and she is very proactive in reminding students she is available anytime. Tests are easy and the most writing is on the midterm and final. Would highly recommend!
She does seem very kind but the workload is a lot. Two chapters a week plus spark posts or filling out multiple tables to basically summarize the unit. I would say it's not as bad as her other classes but because I had to take two of her courses in one semester it was easy to get EXTREMELY overwhelmed. Would not recommend if you can help it.
I'm an online student and I loved her class. Her instruction is very clear throughout the semester, and she's very accessible and helpful. It is a decent amount of reading, but not excessive. She uses the digital textbook in Pearson, which is really easy to use and has helpful quizzes as you're reading. She gives A LOT of feedback on assignments.
She's a very nice and accessible professor. The workload is insane and it's possible to get overwhelmed. She uses Pearson, you can def get ahead but it's like 7-ish quizzes per chap, poll reflections (she expects you to read), and 4 total discussions. It's an easy A, but only if you put some time aside for the busy-work.
The textbook reading was to be expected but oh my god, the the amount of extra reading and writing is just too much for a GEP class. I get that it's a GRW class, but this is just a tedious amount of work.
This class is not worth it. Try to find another teacher if you have to take this class. This class is a GEP and it has been one of the most work-heavy classes I have had. Get ready to write the most essays you have ever written for a class and to read a ton. You never get a break in this class.
The way she structures the class is interesting and does make you interact with the material on a deeper level, and she herself was pleasant to interact with. However this class has far more work for a GEP class than really seems reasonable.
She is an intelligent professor, and I think some of the reviews here are very mean-spirited. She, like Amy Foster, Hakan Ozuglu, and Patricia Farless invest in their students. She's a loving lady and a great teacher and intelligent. Just prepare to write a lot. If you hit it hard you can expect an A. She's straight forward.
Darty is a really nice professor, and is really willing to work with students. However for a GEP this class has a lot of writing assignments, and some of them just seem like busy work. If you procrasinate the workload can be really heavy.
She's a sweet teacher, but not a lot of the course is actually though by her. It's all very much in the online textbook, which can either be your strength or weakness. There are polls and reflections due every week and then around mid and finals, you have this sort of massive class discussion. Overall pretty easy, just pay attention to the details.
I tried taking this online while I took other classes on campus during spring semester. I ended up dropping the class because it was eating up more time than my 3 ENGINEERING CLASSES COMBINED. I'm not exaggerating: 25+ hours per week of reading and writing assignments... for a gen-ed class. Pick someone else.
Mrs. Darty was one of the nicest professors ive ever had! She does take time to respond to others and help them when needed. Most of the class is through a textbook but that is usually most online classes. Only thing i would say is that the discussion post take a lot of time to work on.
A very sweet teacher. And she's reasonable and kind, and will offer help if you ask her for help. Very easy class, if you do the assignments and tests and projects on time. She's very intelligent and respected in her field. I would take her again. If you hit it hard, you will do well in this class.
She's a really kind person, cares about what she's teaching, and is willing to help you if you're struggling. That said, theres so so much hw and busywork for the entire course. Not a horrendous amount but def an annoying amount. DON'T take this class if you're not good at/hate writing, seriously. Overall it's okay if you manage your time well.
Really nice person and very enthusiastic about history, but for the online course she doesn't really do anything. The class is a lot of reading and busy work, not super difficult but not fun either. She makes polls and discussion posts which are interesting, but the amount of just plain textbook work is really boring.
This class was very easy. In the first two weeks of class, I went ahead and finished all the homework that was in the textbook. If you are text savvy and know your way around busy work you can easily get an A in this class.
Prof. Darty is very passionate about teaching and history itself, however, her course is way too intense for a GEP. With 3 midterms and 3 finals and up to 2 lengthy textbook chapters as well as 2 reflections due weekly, this course was my main stressor. I am a STEM major and AMH2010 with Prof. Darty took up the majority of my time and tears.
Darty is kind, but the heavy workload and constant writing assignments make this GEP class a slog. Manage your time well and use tools like Unstuck ai to stay on top of the reading and essays.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Prof Darty is very sweet and kind but the course is WAY too intense for a GEP. Took over so much time and was harder than my major's classes. Loads of papers, can feel like busy work, and honestly the only person who'd like it is a history major. You're better off taking another class because this class will stress you out
Professor Darty is a good online professor the Canvas course is well-structured and organized. At least when I took the course, I used the US History OpenStax textbook free online. The class can be time-consuming due to the amount of weekly readings, but they're very easy to do. Her responses time were good typically responding within 24 hours.
Really nice professor but LOTS of work for a GEP class. If you're not a history major/don't like history, don't take it. Uses 3rd party website for certain assignments that are basically discussion board posts. 5 unit discussions, 5 quizzes, 17 journal entries, 3 research blogs, and final project about a city of your choice. Very time consuming.
For an online class there was a lot of work. But if you do all the work and put in genuine effort you should have an easy A. Assignments are less about your knowledge and more about the connections you make with the history you read about. Everything is open from the beginning but there are frequent assignment deadlines. Late work is allowed though
Great professor to take for foundational American History, if you are a history major. Her classes require a lot of reading and writing, but it's pretty simple to pass. Easy A if you can summarize sources and the textbooks. Grades fairly fast, within a week at least, and responds to emails within a day or two. Lot of work but nothing difficult.
Very nice professor but it is a bit more work than the average GEP class. Textbook is LONG and is a lot of information. There is a project throughout and homework each reading unit with discussions but it is manageable.
Webcourses is impossible to navigate, absurd amount of writing, unclear due dates, terrible discussion program. This course was agonizing. However, the professor shows a great deal of concern for her students, and is always willing to help. Do with that what you will, but I wouldn't recommend this course.
Caring/understanding but the class is a LOT. Textbook is free but long. 3 open book tests, short midterm and final essays, 3 projects that you have a month each on and 1 course long research project + peer reviews. No weekly hw. Assignment instructions confusing but she responds quick. Not hard just a lot, I'd rate 5 if it weren't so much.
Too much writing, expects too much of you. The amount of work is unusual for an intro GEP class. If you're not super interested in history, I would reconsider.
Professor is really nice and responsive to emails, there was just a ton of writing for an online GEP. We had about 6 very long papers to write over the semester that were very time consuming, and the grading was pretty harsh. Other than that, the other assignments are easy you just gotta lock in on writing a lot.
She's a very nice lady. She is passionate and gives you good feedback. Her class is a little difficult due to its confusing nature and an overload of assignments/quizzes. The assignments aren't difficult themselves; the quizzes were harder. She grades fairly. Harsh reviews are probably because it's a GEP. Very nice, but hefty workload.
Genuinely so much reading that it was so overwhelming. I failed and have to retake.
