Amy Dill is the best professor I'll ever have! She is so nice and down to earth. She isn't afraid to say what shes thinking. She knows A LOT about ancient myth and ancient civilizations. I'd advise anyone who wants the coolest teacher ever to take her.
Probably one of the best mythology/classics professors ever! If looking for an intro course take with her!
Really cool person, Make sure you attend class because she gives extra-credit throughout semester for attending class. You have to study though to get a good grade just like any other class.
Loved this teacher. She's extremely intelligent and clever; she always made class interesting. She provides you study guides for every section. USE THEM! They are a life saver. Come to class, take notes, use the study guides and you should do very well. Would recommend.
An incredible teacher. She is very intelligent and really amusing. Her lectures are never boring and very caring.
She's an awesome instructor and made the class interesting/easy. She makes her lecture the exact summary of the book and her study guides extremely useful for her test. Gives extra credit for her test and papers if you attend class, which is very useful for the papers. It's an easy A if you attend and should totally take the class with her.
Amazing teacher. I took two years of Latin in high school and Amy refired my passion for the mythology of the Greeks, and was really great at explaining the connections between the myths of different times and cultures. Made waking up at 8 in the morning worth it.
As long as you go to class and skim the readings her class is really easy. Her first test may be hard, but she gives a lot of extra credit. She is funny and genuinely appeals to her students.
Amy Dill is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She keeps everyone interested in her lectures and is very funny. Her lectures are never boring. She is very helpful and quick in responding to emails. I would recommend everyone take her, you won't regret it!
Do not take. She grades her papers way too hard! The highest grade i got on a paper without extra credit was a 79. Show up to class cause she gives extra credit which helps A LOT on papers and exams. Do the study guide and you should be fine for the exam cause they're no that bad. She posts slides online. Can use a cheat sheet for last 2 tests.
The class content is interesting, plenty of extra credit on tests & for showing up to class, & tests aren't bad at all. However, her paper prompts are always unclear, lengthy paragraphs & she grades them extremely hard. I got As on all 3 exams but only ever got more than a C on one of her seven 3-5 page papers. It makes the class very frustrating.
One of the best professors I've had. The essays aren't hard if you go to her and discuss the prompt. She truly cares and is willing to help you out. I got a 100 on three of them, however, you have to work for an A in this class, which isn't so hard since she's hilarious which will keep you engaged for the lectures and you'll want to keep learning.
Very harsh essay grader. I don't feel an entire class should average 60%. Be wary, even following every detail of her prompts won't be enough to even achieve a C on essays.
I took this class to fulfill my writing credit, but also alleviate my boring harder classes I was taking with this "fun, interesting" class that would also probably help me boost my gpa. I was so wrong. This class is harder than my calculus class and law class combined. I'm spending way too much time and effort on this class to get bad grades.
First class I've ever failed. Thought it would be a fun and interesting class. Thought wrong. Don't recommend.
I got an A so it's not impossible. This class was hard because of the essays, you WILL receive a C if you don't read the assigned readings and go to office hours! Easy class cause 1) allows extra time on essays 2) lets you bring a cheat sheet for the exam 3) tons of extra credit! It's not an easy A, that's why everyone is butt hurt
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. She is the toughest grader ever on essays, so incredibly rude on her comments, completely written tests that almost everybody fails even with a cheat sheet, no curves for anything even though the average grades are a 60, boring lectures that make no sense at all, and long very boring readings.
Her tests are very difficult, but you do get to use a cheat sheet. If you are not interested in mythology, the lectures can be a bit confusing, but she is very helpful. She gives a lot of extra credit in class, so attend class.
If you ever get this teacher, then DON'T take the class. She is soooo terrible. You get cheat sheets on the tests, but people still somehow fail because she is the HARDEST grader ever. She grades your essays and tests as you are PhD student in mythology. I've heard the other classes are easy so I 11/10 reccomend not getting this teacher.
She is a great professor who gives great lectures. The cheat sheet you can make for the tests will save you. She is not a tough grader, I don't know what those other kids are talking about. If you make a good cheat sheet you will do fine. She's funny and really cares about her students. I would take her class again if I could.
Amy Dill is the sweetest professor at FSU. Cheat sheets on tests, literary just show up to class and listen.
Amy had super interesting lectures and made all the material super easy to digest. Cheat sheets on tests, TONS of extra credit, and I would say she's a pretty fair grader. As long as you listen to her lectures it's super easy.
Dill was a good teacher overall, attendance isn't mandatory but she gives out a lot of extra credit in class. Lectures are kind of dull but if you really love mythology you'll find them interesting. All 4 tests you're allowed to bring a cheat sheet to which is a LIFE SAVER. Easy to get an A if you just put in the effort.
Was a great teacher who so long as you showed up to class, you'd get an Easy A. Tests are easy and papers aren't long or challenging. She makes the material so much easier to understand and she will answer any questions or confusion you have on the essays. Offers extra credit for attending class and is really passionate about what she teaches!
I am taking medical terminology with her online and it is very easy, but A LOT of work. There is a chapter quiz, exam, and discussion board due every week. She does not post powerpoint slides because she expects you to read the book and the video supplements are unhelpful. If you read the book the quizzes and exams are easy though.
Loved her! Class was interesting and as long as you just show up and pay attention, you truly get an A. Allows cheat sheets on tests, truly a great professor! Gives good feedback too.
You won't really have much interaction with her because the course layout is pretty simple. Just a weekly quiz and weekly discussion board post. Everything is done online. Her class only took up 1-2 hours of my week.
Have a discussion post, a quiz and an exam every week. Not bad right? WRONG!!! I mean the discussion posts and the quizzes are not that bad but it does get annoying when you have to read all these articles and write a 400+ word discussion on it every week. The problem is the exam. It's a 25 minute exam with 50 QUESTIONS!! Like??? Good luck y'all
Oh God she's horrible!!! Her exams are worth more in the class but it's literally IMPOSSIBLE to do well on them. It's a freaking 25 minute exam with 50 QUESTIONS! And some of them have multiple parts! You literally can't think or check your work. You either hurry and get half the answers wrong or u don't even get to do half of the questions. Beware
Also, take into account some of the other variables. You get half-a-second for 1 question. But if you include the time it takes to press next, the time it takes for the next question/page to load and the time it takes to scroll down to the question,it takes away like 10 seconds. So technically you only got 20 secs for 1 question. Pray to Jesus y'all
Waaayyy too much work for a 2000 level class. I feel like the format itself is useless b/c the exams are hard af so if you do bad on an exam (and you will.. almost every time), you can't really make up for it through the quiz and discussion grades b/c they're worth like 10% or something while the exam is worth like 35%. Exam format is also horrible
Just took this week's exam and I'm tired of getting a low grade because of the time format. I really did give this class a chance and study and read the textbook but the exam format is not helpful at all (50 questions25 min). Either I hurry through it and get half the questions wrong or I actually take my time and don't get to finish. I'm done!!!!
The quizzes aren't hard, the weekly discussion posts are often tedious and annoying but she makes her TA's grade them, I got lucky with having a fair TA, others not so much. GOOD LUCK on that test with that amount of crunch time and pray that your wifi doesn't lag because professor dill could care less.
The exams are horrible so don't take this class unless you're the flash or you're a person who can afford to buy a private and secure internet connection. The course load is huge cause u got a quiz, a discussion (500+ words) and of course, the exam. Prof. Dill is harsh and not helpful at all and takes months to answer to an email. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
She's lowkey rude.... I use the FSU wifi so sometimes there are a lot of problems with lagging and loading. This affects my exam taking so I messaged her about it but she didn't reply back until a month later and she just said to get a better wifi. In general, this class format is useless and tedious and just too much work for a low level course.
Your gpa is definitely gonna take a hit cause this class is not easy. I mean the quizzes and discussions are okay but the exams are a nightmare. Since these are every week, you are more likely to get a low grade because of the weekly exams. They are a 25 minute exam with 50 questions so... you get the idea. Choose another professor or another class
Have a discussion post, a quiz and an exam every week. It's a lot b/c you gotta read an article and write like a essay so... it gets tiring. And as you read below, you got a 25 minute exam with 50 questions which is not enough time which leads to some VERY low grades. Practice quiz is okay but doesn't really prepare you for the exam. Overall... meh
Hate doing the weekly exams but everything else was okay. Tedious, but okay. She does come off as rude sometimes though
SUCH AN EASY CLASS. I wish I put in more effort so I could have gotten a 100 in the class. I took this as an easy online class so I could focus more on my hard classes and it was a great extra class. Don't bother buying the textbook. Read instructions for discussion post as that is what I did wrong the first couple posts.
Medical term will ruin your GPA if you don't do the required assignments. Dill is not an easy person to talk to and she isn't very understanding of your circumstances, including WIFI problems. Discussions are rather unfair as they are due by Friday at midnight but if you submit an hour before, you are locked out. Take a different class.
Your entire grade is based on a weekly quiz, test, and discussion board. All of the questions are directly from the modules and textbook. If you do all of your work, you will get a 100. She is not very interactive as a teacher, but I never had a reason to communicate with her anyways since I took the class online. Highly recommend to anyone.
She does discussion posts every week and the articles she uses never make any sense. But overall the class was super easy.
The rudest professor i have EVER had. Class was not hard but she did not teach.
Quizzes, discussion boards, and tests every week. Easy to manage but is time consuming. Amy Dill does none of the teaching. Its all on yourself to read the book and watch lectures that werent even made by her. Despite all of that, its a super easy class and as long as you keep up with the work, you will pass with an A.
This class wasn't hard but the weekly discussions posts can be very confusing. The weekly quizzes were 50 questions and the time limit was 25 minutes. The only thing I didn't like about the quizzes was that some questions had multiple parts so technically it more than 50 questions. Overall I ended up with an A in the class.
Amy Dill isn't the one teaching, neither grading the discussion boards. The TA grades them. It is a very easy class, you just have to read the textbook and watch the lectures. Also, you can have other tabs open during the quizzes and exams and it doesn't count as cheating just FYI (everything is on Quizlet!!) SUPER EASY!!!! :)
A focus of the class is about Debates. There are six debates (the class is divided into three teams and each team perfoms 2 debates). If you are not in the current debate you will write a report. Definitely do the optional assignments, it will help you later. Teacher provides great feedback and is super helpful outside of class.
This class was harder than I expected going in. Not too much homework but when you do have an assignment it's graded pretty harshly. You only have to present in front of the class 4 times, which isn't bad considering it's an oral competency class. Do the extra credit!!!
Lectures and notes are hard to understand for students not already experienced in mythology, class consists of quizzes, 2 exams, and 3 papers. Grades on papers seem unreasonable and graded on her own opinion. Nice professor but overall, I would not recommend taking this class.
Attendance isn't mandatory but she does random reflections. On quizzes she allows a regular paper size for a cheat sheet as long as it is handwritten. The papers are easy and mostly opinion-based. Her lectures are entertaining and funny if you are interested in mythology. Absolutely loved the class.
Lectures are confusing for those who do not understand mythology well or are not interested in it. There are random in-class reflections which are super easy (I don't recommend skipping class) The essays are claimed to be opinion based but graded super harsh. Quizzes are easy if you have good notes and understand the notes.
The most uncaring and unfair professor I have ever come into contact with. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you want to spend countless hours focusing on an elective and still getting bad grades because her TAs want to go on a power trip. Literally the worst class I've taken at FSU.
DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR! This is a mythology class, so I expected it to be entertaining. This was by far the most obnoxious class I've had this semester, even above core classes. She will grade so harshly, and tell you that you're wrong for information that she herself "taught" in class. She is horrible at explaining and teaching.
The semester started out promising, but she is a harsh grader and holds her students to very high standards, while she does not hold the same standards for herself. She took a long time to grade and I do not think she was very clear about her expectations. For being my last General Ed credit, I highly regret choosing this professor.
I know a lot of ppl did not like this class or Dill but I enjoyed it. The lectures are all posted online, but the reflections are random in class (she lets you make up one). I thought she was pretty cool and taught well, I also had a good TA that didn't grade my essays too harshly. I've heard of other better professors but she wasn't bad at all
I thought her lectures were good enough a bit confusing here and there but overall entertaining. Reflections are easy but random. Quizzes are lowkey hard since it's timed and you cannot go back once you submit the questions (I went to every class and took notes and only got one 100 with the use of notes).
This was by far one of my least favorite classes I've taken at FSU. Professor Dill is nice but the grading is horrendous. Essays were supposed to be written from our POV about how we interpreted certain myths. If the TA's did not like your POV, you got graded unfairly. Material was cherry picked to fit her perspective about myths. Don't take.
The class notes were basically useless to use as a means for review for quizzes. Oddly, her definitions and interpretations of certain myths differed from scholarly sources on Google. The TAs grading was awful and largely was based on if they agreed with your view. Quizzes and exams were hard but class definitions had to be 'our definition.'
The class consists of 4 online quizzes, 2 750-word Essays, 1 1500-word Essay, and 2 larger written exams in person. There were also 4 random reflections throughout the semester at the end of class (easy prompts, but must attend class, 1 was dropped) I would say it wasn't easy, but doable. Amy dill is caring and will give extensions, tough grader.
Great professor, but be warned that your work is graded harshly so half-effort isn't enough. Fun to listen to in lectures especially if you enjoy the material.
I had a very difficult time keeping up with this class. We had very few assignments and were graded very harshly on them.
Loved her and this class. Does do attendance checks unannounced so attendance is pretty much mandatory. For quizzes a study guide with every possible question on the test is provided.
I absolutely loved taking this class, everything was very clearly explained, and easy to get an A. Many people I saw fail this class simply because they wouldn't be in class to do in-class activities which would lead to low grades. I attended every lecture, even didn't really do outside readings, and had no trouble maintaining an A.
Attendance isn't mandatory but she randomly gives points/excuses students from assignments for showing up If you miss that day for any reason don't bother trying to excuse your absence (Even in a family death)She'll either refuse to excuse it or make it extremely difficult There's only 6 assignments which makes it hard to come back from a bad grade
If you love mythology, I would highly recommend taking her and this class. She is extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer most of my obscure questions, which I loved. Att. is not mandatory, but she will give you extra credit if you show up on the days she does take att. Not a lot of grades, but she allows for an 8x5 page for you on all exams
Professor Dill was very good, however, you must pay attention and do work on time and with your best effort. If you love mythology I highly recommend it!
Dr. Dill is one of the best professors I've had. I highly recommend taking mythology with her, as her lectures are not only engaging but also very entertaining, for the most part. I would say the only downside is that her class only has 6 assignments: 3 papers, and 3 tests (including the final), so you need to pay attention to her lectures.
On the first day, Dr. Dill made the class seem easy, with extra-credit, cheat sheets on exams, and easy content- that couldn't be farther from the truth. She grades any writing done on exams or essays with her own made up rubrics which do not-follow her own words in class or rubrics she posts online. If you don't already have a myth degree DONT TAKE
Took this class because I thought it would be easy, but that is FAR from the truth. Amy goes really fast with her lectures, so it's easy to get lost when you're typing 10 pages of notes per lecture. If you do poorly on one essay or test, it affects your grade for the rest of the semester. Do not take this class unless you love mythology!!
The best professor I have ever had. As long as you put in the work the grades are easy. Show up to class and you will do well, she goes over everything you need to know in lectures but gives it in such an interesting way that made me genuinely excited to go to class. Tons of extra credit, and great feedback on assignments.
At first, you might think this class is cake, but it turned out to be my least favorite class this semester. Amy engages with the class, but her lectures don't prepare you for exams. She allows a cheat sheet, but the questions are so specific and fill-in-the-blank that they are impossible to ace. Hard grader with essays too. Take CLT with Craft.
Professor Dill is a great professor and a better person. She grades hard, but if you put in the time and effort, then you'll be fine in this class. If you're into Ancient Greece then I highly recommend.
this class was one of the worst ive ever taken at FSU. expect 3 exams + 3 papers in the semester. The exams for this course are harder than any of my business major exams. She asks extremely specific questions and makes you write a lot on top of the hard questions. She took about a month and a half to grade 700 word papers, and graded roughly lol
Professor Dill is engaging and informative. The assignments aren't difficult, but make you think critically. This class was well outside my major, but I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for an interesting class. Also, CLA2110 counts for a few liberal studies requirements; what more could you ask for?
Dill was very nice and extremely generous with extra credit. Her tests are fully based on lectures which can be tough, but recording them seemed to work very well. Regardless, the extra credit was so plentiful it didn't matter much. You have to attend lectures or you will not do well.
Your only grades are a few tests and a few papers. Overall the grading isn't that rough, but sometimes isn't directly based on the rubric. For tests you'll be a few chances within the classes before to have extra credit opportunities. You're also given a full cheat sheet and a test review to study for the tests.
Grades based on if you are paying attention in class, not if your answers are actually correct. Teaches about Ancient Greece and Mythology, but every quiz is on rhetorical style (which we never practice in class). Overall, I do not recommend taking this professor. Lectures are also very boring.
This teacher was an extremely rough grader and very lecture heavy. She only cares about whether you were paying attention during lectures. She also refused to wear a microphone so I couldn't understand pretty much anything she was saying. The one good thing I'll say is that attendance isn't mandatory but in class assignments are extra credit.
the absolute worst ever never take her
Genuinely, do not take her class or any class she teaches. Class is very lecture heavy and they're extremely boring. Class is about Greek Mythology & History but we practice rhetorical English work like styles & ethos pathos logos (which she never teaches us how to decipher). Favoritism for people who pay attention PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!
Professor Dill is an exceptional teacher and I would recommend her to anyone. Her lectures are interesting and engaging and the work is not too much if you put in a little effort. Go to her office hours, she enjoys interacting with her students, and the course work is not bad at all with loads of extra credit.
Absolute nightmare. Teaching was unclear and inconsistent. Not only was the instructor unapproachable and unwilling to address our concerns, but their demeanor was rude and unprofessional. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of this professor.
She is funny and engaging and posts lecture slides but goes more in depth in person making it valuable to go. She also releases a study guide of topics/vocab/people for tests and you are allowed a full sheet of notes for the test. The essays are flexible in topic and date! Attendance is not mandatory but there are extra credits for going some days
She is clearly very passionate about mythology, so you would find it surprising how incredibly boring and hard to follow her lectures are. She also moves very fast. What bothers me the most is how vague her writing assignments are and will not permit you to use any outside sources and only the slides or links she provides.
She really tries to help students succeed. She will help in office hours and gives detailed rubrics and feedback, and outlines in class what you need to know. If you try a little, it's not hard at all.
only her definition of these myths are correct. the papers a graded like this is an actual class and not just some bs gen ed ppl r taking.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! If your looking for a pre req class to take that covers a scholarship in practice credit, this class is not for you. I thought this class would be an easy class that would cover a pre req credit, I thought wrong. Hard essay grader, tests are super hard, & the TA's are all weird asf & are ruthless graders. I withdrew, best choice.
The tests are open notes and if you go to class and take notes from what she talks about, not just the slides, you will do great. If you show up to class she gives tons of extra credit.
Went to office hours with Amy and she seems like a cool person, but not a fan of her teaching. You definitely have to be interested in mythology to enjoy the class. You can use a study sheet on exams, but I don't find them that helpful, the questions deep dive into the class. I found her teaching boring.
Your grades consist of essays and exams- but if you don't procrastinate and actually put in an ounce of effort you'll do well. I am currently at a B+ and I don't attend lectures. She posts her slides on canvas- however explains more in depth in the lectures themselves. She allows 1 cheat sheet per exam and has lots of extra credit opportunities
Idk WHAT these people are on about. Chill teacher. Incredibly easy class. Writing/in class assignments are graded on completion. Exams are easy and you get a full sheet of notes, going to lectures helps but you can get away with just reading the slides. Also FLEX structure so you dont even have to do that much work. No homework, no essays, no book.
Anyone on here complaining just didn't want to try at ALL for this class. Dill gives you SO many opportunities to get a good grade in the class. All you need is to go to all the lectures, take notes, and listen. You get extra credit often if you attend class, cheat sheets for exams, and essay make-ups. She is also so nice and understanding.
I took this class to cover two of my mandatory credits. My advisor said many people enjoy this class and usually think it's pretty easy. This is currently the hardest class I have ever taken and would not recommend this class to ANYONE. The exams are insanely hard and even if you miss an in-class assignment for any reason, you can't make it up. 0/5
Amy Dill is a great lecturer, and has a unique class structure that makes the class very flexible. It is a flex class, allowing you to choose what assignments to complete. If you do well on first 2 midterms, you don't even need to take the final. Content is interesting, and she makes it fun. Overall great experience.
Amy Dill is an incredible professor. Her class was engaging and interesting, and she had a flexible grading scheme, making it extremely easy to get an A. Attend lectures, pay attention, and be ready to do some creative writing! As long as you attend class and take good notes, you will easily pass.
She is a great teacher. Uses flex grading, which allows everyone to do as much as they want and still do well. She was really funny and clear with instructions. Used memes in lectures.
