Horrible teacher! Rude, wasn't helpful at all! Teaching style was all over the place. Is overall not a very understanding person. Wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
I had her for my Biology Lab. Not going to lie, I dreaded this lab every week and hated that it was mandatory. She talks about irrelevant things and takes forever to get to the point, and even when she does get to the point, you can't even tell what it is. Try getting a different professor if you can.
DIDN'T MAKE IT BECAUSE TESTS WERE SO CONFUSSING AND were worth a great amount of your grade, must have a 70 percent in order to pass the class but SHE WOULD HELP YOU IF YOU ASK FOR HELP and YOU HAVE TO DO GOOD ON TESTS IN ORDER TO PASS THE CLASS
i believe amy is very clear and extremely helpful. the only thing is you do have to put the work in to get your deserved grade. she has no extra credit and no curve. everything is straight forward, and you dont get anything you dont deserve. tests are all multiple choice and are based on hw quizes and bio portal
You have to read the chapter and her notes prior to coming into the class or you will be lost. Very helpful instructor but you have to ask so that she knows where to help you. Homework and exams are very hard, unless like I said, you read the chapters and notes. Very nice and joyful lady. Would take her class again.
I liked this professor a great deal. She was helpful and tried to supplement our knowledge if we were struggling. Patient, makes herself available. Tests were tough but this subject is complex. Excellent teacher, I would take her again.
I had Amy for both lecture and lab and I loved her. She is very sweet and will help you if you need it. For lab, if you need to miss a day, she'll let you make it up. The only thing I didn't like is that you NEED to get a new textbook for online access to take tests. its a waste of money but its mandatory.
Amy is an amazing teacher. I have struggled with Biology and have taken it a couple of times. She goes out of her way to help you if you need it. It is a class that you have to study for and put some time and effort in to. I would definitely recommend her over the other Biology teachers.
Worst teacher I've ever had a CBC. She lectures off of a power point, stumbles over her words often, and doesn't seem to know what she's talking about most of the time. Her exams are never about anything she went over in class, and many times it wasn't in the book either. Don't spend to much time on pre & post labs. She's a hard grader.
If you want to pass biology do not take class with her. 80% of your grade will come from 4 exams which are confusing and she takes pride in the fact. Miss a day, she will not let you make up any tests, quizzes or labs. Quizzes are same day as lectures. I love biology but I am very disappointed with the teacher.
She is really nice and enthusiastic about biology. Read the book and study the powerpoint and you will be fine. Hard class, but no harder than other college science classes... labs are super fun if you like biology. I would take her again!!!
Her lectures were very boring, she did all of the talking and would not get people to involved. Lectures would literally put everyone to sleep.
Amy is an amazing teacher! Her class is difficult, yes, but it's a REAL college course which requires you to put in effort into studying the material and book. Her tests are a bit confusing, but if you study her PPT's and the book enough, you will do fine. She really cares about her students. I loved my bio class with Amy!
Amy Donavan is the most amazing teaching, she wants all her students to do well. If you put the time you'll pass the class. Seriously, Amy will take time out of her day to research any questions you have. She's just an amazing person!!!
Amy gave you so many ways to succeed in this class. The subject matter was tough, especially crammed into a summer quarter, but she not only provided online resources for everything - she recorded her lectures to her slides so you could re-listen to them. It was amazing. She did everything in her power to help you understand the material.
Her lectures are all off of a power point, and the important things are in red. If you miss a class, the lecture is recorded and available on canvas. Her tests are hard, but if you watch every lecture and take notes, you can pull at least a B on them. She is super sweet and always seems interested in her students and a passion for teaching.
I had absolutely NO problems passing this class with a 4.0, and I'm a junior high dropout. It's essential that you read/study the textbook so that you have a good, clear understanding of the material. Amy will plant the seed, but it's up to you to make it grow (the textbook will facilitate growth). I'd definitely take another class from her.
The beginning of the course proved rather difficult. The only reason being I did not put all my effort into it. It WILL be hard if you don't read the assigned chapters and don't review the material outside of class. Her lectures are amazing and she never missed a day of class. Her love for teaching makes it that much more enjoyable as a student.
Not an easy class but such a great professor! She had quizzes every Monday, 3 group lab writeups (find good partners), plus four big exams (exams are long and hard but everything on them was covered in class and she posts reviews). Since the class is intended for science majors I think she taught it perfectly! She's friendly, helpful, and funny.
Tests are totally confusing. She doesn't tell you what's on the test so it's very hard to do good. She isn't very good at explaining stuff. I'm sure there are better and more helpful professor's for bio160
This is a true college science class, its very hard and I have struggled to pass the class only because I didn't really study as much as I should on the first test. IF you blow away tests you will fail, so make sure you read the book and actually listen to her lectures, she will help you but expect earning your grade.
I really like Ms. Donovan, and i hate science. I would recommend sitting in the front of the class and taking notes and study them a little every night then you don't fall behind! But if you work hard you will do good. And whenever i asked for help she was more than willing. Would recommend.
Amy is an amazing professor. It doesn't make a different who your teacher is. This is a hard class in general! Make sure you stay on top of lectures and re-read your notes. If you study what you went over in class each night, you'll be fine. Every point counts in this class! Do the homework every week and extra credit when she gives it.
Professor Donovan is a great teacher. She explains the material very well, and has a great sense of humor. Make sure to study! Actually read the textbook, and don't be afraid to ask questions. She stresses good study habits from day 1, and gives good tips to staying on top of things.
Would never recommend her nor ever take her again. If you have a hard time in her class you're out of luck, she sayings to help but will repeat things in the same way won't find other ways to explain things. Her lectures are not helpful.
I absolutely love Amy as a professor! Yes, her tests are challenging, but if you study you will do well! I would take a class from her again in a heartbeat; she is one of the best instructors that I've had at CBC. She really clarifies & simplifies the material in the book. She uses a lot of nonverbal hand gestures to reinforce her points.
Amy is one of the BEST instructors I have had so far at CBC. she honestly cares a lot about her students. May seem like she is tough on you but only because she actually cares, and wants you to learn the material to be successful in the future. Her lectures are great and she explains things extremely well and will be there to answer any questions.
Meh. The tests are worded in a confusing way. To pass you have to utilize launchpad and the book. There is a lot of material that you're tested on that aren't gone over in the lectures. But she does try to help you succeed.
Amy is a very nice lady but not the best professor. She does care about her students but not enough to change anything about her teaching methods when about 75% of the class is failing. Her tests are extremely hard, she uses the same ones every quarter so you never even get your test back to study the stuff you got wrong. I would not take again.
This review is for the teacher, Amy Donovan. Her subject is biology, and it's difficult, BUT Amy is one of the best bio teachers I've ever had. The concepts are overwhelming, but she will kindly answer your questions. Even though the lectures are available online, you should definitely always attend class! The powerpoints are online, download them!
Homework and quizzes every thursday which isn't that bad but her lectures got boring and I never knew what to expect on the tests. Asked so many times what to study for or how to study and never got an answer. Did worse and worse as the tests went on because they all seemed completely random. Other science classes are similar but this one was hard.
I really loved Amy as a professor. Her tests were difficult, but there are a lot of ways to study the material. Her lectures are engaging, so following what was in the book was easy. What helped me with the class was re-listening to her lectures that she recorded and followed my notes. Stay on top of the material and you'll do fine!
I really wish she'd utilize canvas more for at least her quizzes and lab pre-questions and post questions. The amount of assignments she gives are almost overwhelming. Her lectures are fairly boring and hard to follow because she constantly goes off topic.
Amy is a very nice person and a great professor but this class was hard! There was a lot of material to learn and at times it was overwhelming, she is a tough grader you will actually have to work for a good grade. If you hate having homework and studying for hours this class might not be for you.
Amy was one of the best professors I have ever had! Although the course material can be tough, she is there to help and wants to see her students through to success. She is able to explain the material in a variety of different ways which I really appreciated. She is also one of the kindest and most encouraging people you'll ever meet! Great lady!
I loved Amy! Got her for BIO 211 by a stroke of luck. She's kinda like a Mom but in a good way. Super nerdy and excited about but biology, which makes it fun. She's helpful and does record on panopto so you can listen from home if necessary. Her exams are tough, but there's other opportunities for points and you can recover from a bad exam. Study!
She is a very nice lady but sucks at teaching. She just goes off power point and doesn't go in much detail about it. Her tests are ridiculous. It is like she sets you up for failure. I seriously do not recommend her.
I would definitely take Amy again. I got the grade that I worked for, nothing more and nothing less. She was always willing and available when I needed extra instruction. If you are going to take more bio later, and want to actually learn it, then this is where you want to be. I had never taken bio before, and I'm not afraid to take more.
She doesn't care if you fail, it seems as if she wants you to. She says most everyone has to take her class at least a few times because it's that hard. She's a scientist so she thinks you all are to. Save yourself and don't take her! Unless you want to waste money on a class. Do not take Amy Donovan you will regret it!
She is a very hard grader I do not recommend her, the tests are so much more complex than the notes you take and study for. Amy also seems to have no sympathy for any of her students, even when the class average was a 56% it did not seem to phase her.
Does care if you pass or not. When you approach for help her response is "try harder". She expects over 1/3 of each class to drop or fail. Has to say something about the Professor I think.
Worst. Professor. Ever. Tests are 80% of your grade. Doesn't teach. Reads powerpoint instead. I learned more from viewing powerpoints at home then listening to her blab on and skim through slides. Doesn't actually teach what is on the test or actually doesn't teach at all. Would Never recommend her.
If you are planning on taking Bio160, DO NOT TAKE IT WITH DONOVAN. She is the worst. She only reads from the pre-made power points, gives a ton of HW (thats worth nothing in the end), and doesnt know how to answer any of the students questions. If you have the option, take Bio with anyone else.
She's a super nice teacher. Her test is really hard if you don't study for it. She has 4 exams during the quarter and they're all worth 75 points which are 80% in total so you must try hard on the exam to pass. To do well on the exams and quizzes, print out the review on Canvas, study on that then go back to the slides and look for words in red.
she's really nice!! but was't the best teacher for me her test are almost impossible to understand and pass! i honestly left bio 160 not learning much of anything!
She does have a book you need to buy, but let's be honest here you don't need it. She gives you all the answers in lecture they're underlined in red, I recommend you print her slides and go to class and take notes and you'll pass! No boring book reading for me. and if you need the book its all in launch pad and you can find it @craigslist, cheap.
She guarantees most of her class will drop, audit or retake her class. Tests are VERY confusing. Does NOT offer any extra credit which she should with her tests being so confusing. Even though you work in a group for the lab,you cannot work together on the homework. She doesn't seem to care much for students at all. Hard to follow her lectures.
So many negative reviews about the teacher:( but what you guys don't understand is these people who failed the class never showed up and left labs early. Show up to the lectures, she makes them so entertaining! She is very caring and as long as you work hard and study, you will get a passing grade. In her notes, study the parts she puts in red :)
Never worked so hard for a C in my life and I am an A student. Worst teacher ever. She should find another position. No one learns anything from her and she doesn't give any encouragement with her negative comments. I felt horrible for others in my class who worked just as hard as I did and didn't pass. Feel the teacher grades if she like you.
Is this teacher for real?? She fails people multiples times because she doesn't like them. Tell me what that has to do with their grade? Tests are hard to understand. No extra credit which is awful for bad test takers. She really has no compassion for her students. Do not take Amy Donovan if you want to learn and or pass. She WILL waste your time.
Super nice, knowledgeable, and available to ask questions or get help. She makes you work for your grade, but you know that you EARNED what you received. Those who say she doesn't care or wants you to fail probably didn't show up or put in the effort. This isn't high school. If you are a serious student and willing to work, you will be fine.
Amy is the best professor i have ever had. Very caring and considerate. Her classes are hard but if you study a lot and stay focused you will do good. She gives many opportunites to get help outside of class if you are struggling.
Basically sets you up for failure. Tells the class most will fail, deflects questions (I wonder if she simply doesn't know the answer), and doesn't provide any wiggle room in her grading. If you work hard, fail, but ask for help, good luck. Reads straight off the slides... Maybe show videos, be interactive, and stay on topic. No empathy for LIFE.
Donovan was the worst professor I have ever taken! In the beginning of the quarter she says that many people have to retake her class because its so difficult. When you as for help all she says is, " try studying more." I study for her exams and I still did horrible. She drops two quizzes but, it doesn't do anything to your grade. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Worst Professor ever!! Reads off the powerpoint. No leniency in tests. Teaches on a subject for 20 minutes, then tells you not to worry because it won't be on the test. Then puts questions on the test about it. Self study is the only way to learn in her class, you wont learn any more from her lecture. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
I noticed a lot of negative reviews and am curious to if those students actually went to class? Be warned. There is A LOT of material that she expects you to know. So prepare to study. She is really good about feed back and explaining things more carefully if you ask. Remember though, this is a college course. It's suppose to be hard
I'm guessing the last comment on here was Amy Donovan herself. This is an awful course. Reads directly from the slides (word-for-word), boring, and doesn't seem very knowledgeable on the subject matter. I highly doubt she could lecture this material without the slides to READ. From what I hear from my peers, the other instructors are worth taking.
I took her for both Bio 160 and Micro), and she is definitely one of my favorite professors. I noticed a lot of people that she doesn't care or isn't knowledgeable on the topic, which couldn't be further from the truth. Definitely willing to work with you and is always there for feedback or to help you better understand a topic. Would recommend
I thought she was an amazing teacher. She really cares about her students and understanding the concepts. She used her PowerPoint slides which were very help, she really drills things she wants you too learn into your brain. I really think she was fun, I had a great time. Yes you do have to study, it a hard class. Highly recommend. She's super fun!
Tough grader, make sure to study thoroughly. Also, homework is worth little to nothing. If you are a good test taker and catch on quickly you will be fine. The chunk of points come from tests do good in those and be ready to be quizzed at end of each chapter.
Professor Donovan is awesome all together. Shes a positive person and always gives you great feedback. Yes, theres a lot of memorizing and studying but if you put in the time youll do well. Dont let the other reviews scare you like they did for me, obviously those people were lazy and didnt take school very seriously! Youll do great, trust me
Professor Donovan is passionate about what she teaches. She gives great lecture and explains thoroughly on everything. She uses hand gestures that help you tremendously on remembering things. You have to study quite a bit for each test but it is a college course so what do you expect? Also she does panapto recordings. I loved her!
Taking lecture and lab from Dr. Donovan although I heard that she is very tough. Well, she is, but she is very helpful in lecture. She answers lots of questions and she makes the world of Gen Bio come to life. Clear schedule and class structure make the class easy to follow. Study, study study!
Literally she is so strict on grading. She says she doesn't care about grammar and etc. but she marks on your paper every single time and it's hard to get a 100% in her class. Skip lab and you won't pass.
Loved this class! She keeps it interesting and cares about the students and their success. Answered any questions that came up. Accessible outside class. Very responsive to email. Concepts can be hard. Must put in the work. Would definitely take her again if I could!
She takes points off of every little thing you turn into her. A very hard grader, talks a lot in the beginning of class which gives you less time to work on you lab experiment for that day. The pre/post lab questions she makes you answer don't make any sense. I spend more time googling answers then what the lab manual gives you. HORRIBLE!!!
Dr Donovan is great, she gives excellent feedback on paper assignments and she's an animated lecturer. She cares that her students do well. Attendance mandatory for tests/case studies/lab, but other than that you can survive if you keep up with her panopto recordings. I didn't read the book after ch 4 and was fine.
The subject itself is hard, but if you print out the Powerpoints and write your own notes on the side you should pass the class! Also, what helped me pass her exam's is studying the study guide. I highly recommend you printing it out and reviewing it every night. If you do this you'll pass the class without a problem! The study guide is the key!
Definitely a hard class, but I appreciate the way she explains everything with lots of repetition. Her slides have bolded the things to focus your studies on. Her tests are very challenging - she really makes sure you learn the material in order to do well on them. Tough but attainable if you work for it. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
Dr. Donovan's class is a difficult one however, I am going to give you the information you need to pass this course. You need to read the book and study her slides and go to class every day. You will earn the grade that you worked, for she will not let you slide by. She gives you every opportunity to excel in this classroom so don't be lazy.
Professor Amy is fantastic! Her lectures are engaging and enjoyable if you engage back. Her lectures simplify the material to the simplest form it can be. The material is pretty difficult, so studying and utilizing the formative questions will help you very much with the tests. Also, the lab is a TON of fun, but a lot of homework too.
Amy is great! She cares a lot about her student and wants them to do well! The class is hard and you have to work for a good grade but it is more than possible. Make sure to study the red parts of her lecture for exams and don't ever miss a lab! She drops your lowest exam, HW, and quiz. I left this class feeling very confident in Biology!
Amy is great at her lectures but she easily falls off track during them. She does provide power-points to follow along with, and highlights the important parts in red but even sadly, I felt like that didn't even help. Exams are hard and its hard to know what to study. Ask a lot of questions, and stay ahead of studying! Do NOT procrasinate.
Pretty sure those giving negative feedback just had unrealistic expectations for bio. Yes its hard. Concepts are difficult. Its expected in a core science class though. Amy is a caring and down to earth. No surprises on tests. Clear lectures. Great feedback. Drops the lowest score in every category. An A is very obtainable if you apply yourself.
This is a tough class with lots of memorization. However, I really enjoyed Amy as a professor but Amy is pretty down-to-earth. She can be a tough grader but as long as you put in the effort you will be OK. She wont ding you for grammar but will point out every error. She drops the lowest quiz grade which for me meant that I didn't take the final.
I really enjoyed this class! I already liked biology but Amy made it even better. Yes there is a lot of information to learn, but as long as you continually apply yourself, the tests arent too difficult. Amy is the most down to earth teacher Ive had. Would highly recommend!
Took her during COVID-19. Online. It sucked but she made the transition very smooth. Lectures were pre-recorded with slides provided. Labs were a bit tough due to no "hands on" experiments, but she provided videos for those. Exams are done through Proctorio. Study her slides. ASK questions! She replies VERY fast! She's a Bio nerd! Loved her!
Dr. Donovan is an incredible teacher. She is very kind and she wants you to do well. She will spend hours and hours helping you if you need it. I feel like I came out of this class with a great understanding of Biology that I can build on. Is this class an easy A? No, but if you are going on to more biology you don't want an easy A.
I had heard that Dr. Donovan was a tough grader and a very hard professor to take this class from. If you put in the work and ask questions and CARE, it's really not. I would take her again (and in fact am!). Study for her quizzes, and use the launchpad system more than is required. Launchpad helped me a lot. Don't procrastinate on the labs.
Great professor. You can tell she cares about the subject and wants others to learn to love it. I contacted her outside of class and she responded very quickly. Extra credit is offered with every test but studying is so important. Also, she adds submission comments to every assignment you turn in and gives great feedback to improve.
I took this class online and ended up dropping it week 3. I studied her lectures and power points and even made flashcards. She recommends studying 15 hours a week and I did, but still managed to fail her quizzes. I emailed her asking for help and she recommended a tutor and accused me of being a passive studier. do not take her online.
She does not give good lectures or teach much, her grading is very strict and you are basically paying for a self taught class which is very difficult. I would pass her for someone else if you want to learn and pass. I would recommend not taking this class with any other classes or if you are working fulltime.
She literally spends the first week saying most students will fail her class. She doesnt really teach anything, all she does is read the PowerPoints Her grading is HORRIBLE, every little mistake u make, she will take points off. She gives A LOT of hw that is pointless and waste of time. Doesnt matter if you study or not, you will fail her class.
Amy is the most compassionate professor I've ever taken. She has a lot of work so you will work for your grade, but if you do the assignments and communicate with her, you will do great.
Bio is not an "easy" class in general.. However, I don't think she cares much if her student pass or fail. She is very confusing w/ lectures & you cannot utilize previous tests/quizzes for studying because she does not give you the correct answer or what you've gotten wrong unless you zoom w/ her & the zooms are not helpful at all.
You will have a lot of homework in this class but if you put in the time and make sure you do all of the assignments you will pass this class. This class is definitely interesting! She definitely cares about her students so much and you can tell! I ended up having to get surgery right in the middle of the semester and she worked with me so well!
Dr. Donovan is one of the best professors at CBC. She is passionate about biology and about teaching. She will spend hours with a student to help him/her understand the material. The only minus is the fact that her recorded lectures are not high quality and can be a bit hard to follow. However, one gets used to them. I would take her again.
She has an amazing layout for taking notes. She is very strict and makes you use Proctorio. She does not make the class easy, the quizzes that she has you do every week will drop your grade if you do bad on them. She is a tough teacher. She will not let you extend time on anything and makes it very difficult for you to make up your grade.
I only had her for the lab! She is a fun professor and the lab was so cool! She is kinda all over the place but she really cares how well you do and is there to help you. I had Hensheid for lecture and the two of them make a great duo. I would definitely take again.
Yeah so I dropped bio because this class was so terrible. 0/10 would never recommend.
Although she did warn the class in the beginning of the course that the quizzes would at times be worded weirdly, one thing I had a problem with is that her quizzes would always be 30 minutes and at times be lengthy to read so if you are a slow reader these quizzes might be difficult for you. Besides from this, her course work's amazing.
Found the teaching style difficult and felt like if students were doing bad she would think that it was just because they didn't "study" or "read" enough. I spent hours reading, studying, and even watching youtube videos over the material. Found it difficult to process, even with the online lecture videos. the homework and the tests did not align.
there were two books that I needed to purchase but no access code was needed for this class. Amy Donovan is one of the best teachers I have come across at CBC, she was very helpful and very kind. The material was hard but not super hard, the lab was fun and easy to understand. She is a great professor and I would definitely recommend.
She is a very interesting and caring teacher. She makes the material easy to understand in her lectures and PowerPoint. She did warn us that the tests are worded weirdly and she was right. Other than the tests the labs and assignments were super easy and interesting. As long as you try and give complete answers you will do really good.
Others have stated that her tests are worded weird, but they are worded how she talks in lecture. Make sure to pay attention in lecture and study the guides. I took this class online so it was helpful to watch the lecture a few times. I really enjoyed the online lab simulations as well, it made it easier to grasps concepts.
Weekly quizzes on top of 4 other assignments due during the week. Workload wasn't terrible, but quizzes are tough. Even when I felt confident, I still missed 10+ points. No option to go back to see questions were missed on the quizzes, so I couldn't even be sure what I needed to review. Doesn't accept any late or missing work so be on top of it.
Amy Donovan is one of the best teachers that I have had so far at CBC. Her lectures are really good and helpful. She makes biology fun. Instead of doing tests, she has a weekly quiz every Friday. She gives one extra credit question on each quiz, and you can drop one of the quizzes. She cares about your success. Would recommend her to all students.
Challenging course but would take Amy again! DON'T MISS LAB (there's lots to do), strict deadline, fun lab and enjoyed the course. Though its unfair Week 0 is during your break before the next quarter begins. Short answer HW and lecture/slides preps you for weekly quiz. Lots of HW so schedule your life around those dates or use up your weekends.
Almost no questions/notes on review guide were asked on the quizzes. I spent hours studying and researching the topics provided, and yet none of that information was useful on the quizzes. Also, after you complete a quiz, you cannot go back to see what answers your got wrong, making trying to correct incorrect knowledge impossible.
This was a very difficult class, however Donovan made it enjoyable. It is definitely most important to watch the lecture videos, and go to lab. I mostly enjoyed how routine and scheduled the class was. If you put in the work, you will get a decent grade. She was a very kind professor though, and gave me grace for a few assignments.
This professor appeared to derive satisfaction from students' subpar performance on exams. The exams were poorly worded, resulting in many students either dropping the class or earning low grades. One of my classmates later took the class with a different professor in the following quarter and noted a significantly better experience.
Dr. Donovan is a wonderful teacher. She is truly caring and has a wonderful personality. There were a lot of assignments and her grading was very difficult, but overall she is amazing. I would recommend her. Her labs were fun and educational.
Dr. Donovan is a great professor! There is a lot of homework, and she grades pretty strictly, but she definitely knows what she's talking about. She's very knowledgeable, and the labs are really fun. You are on your own for labs, so make sure to watch the lecture videos. The subject is just hard, but she's honestly really cool.
She does not seem to care about the success of her students. Her assignments do not always make sense nor have any correlation to the textbook or videos that she provides. It seems as though she has thrown random assignments together. Her instructions are super unclear and is hardly willing to clarify or explain. She does not take criticism well.
Labs are fun & she's OK but weekly quizzes were hard and didn't really match the lectures/chapters/slides. Each assignment took a long time (there are many) & she is a tough grader. Very little extra credit offered & she does not curve grades. Quizzes are only open for 14 hours on a lab day so hard to find time to take them each week if you work.
Part 1: At first I didn't know what to think of Professor Donovan, she's a little intimidating.. but I grew to really like her. She was super helpful for me and understanding when personal things came up and I needed more time. LABS ARE SO FUN! I actually looked forward to our lab everyday and I'm sad it's over.
Part 3: If you take sarcasm and brutal honesty well, you will get along great with Prof. Donovan. She responds fast and always leaves a lot of feedback, always willing to help as well. Although I didn't always agree with all of the grading measures, it didn't hurt me too badly. Sidenote: I do wish the quiz results were available after grading.
Professor Donovan runs a challenging yet engaging class. Watching lectures and using resources like unstuck AI helped me grasp the material. Consistent effort is key to succeeding.
She was OK not to horrible but just know you're basically teaching yourself, if you ask a questions you'll receive a “what do you think” or “what does the lab manual say” so don't even bother asking her questions. Assignment Heavy (time consuming), 5am-7pm test window on every Thursday (sucks if you work), Takes off points on literally everything
She was such a good teacher the labs where always fun but their isn't really any extensions on deadlines but you have a week in advance. Attendance is mandatory and she doesn't record her lectures but I found her lectures to be interesting.
Tough grader. She will take off every 0.25 points if she can for anything, especially if you use the wrong word. Quizzes every Thursday only open for 14 hours. Labs are fun, online lectures do not benefit very much.
She is a horrible professor, she states her quizzes will be on certain chapters and it ends up being on chapters from 2-3 weeks ago that have nothing to do with the chapters she mentioned it would be about. She doesn't give enough time for her quizzes, she gives u two “short answer” questions out of 14 that end up having at least 9 questions each.
I've had difficult professors in the past but Dr Donovan isn't so much difficult as she is 100% UNREASONABLE. Directions for homework can be 3 pages long and very confusing. Takes off points for the most mundane things. There is a test every week - may cover 4 chapters. Test questions poorly worded. Doesn't take feedback well. Horrible experience.
She's okay. No matter how detailed you may explain your answer, or how confident you are in it, expect she will find a flaw in it. A tough grader, lectures are long and not very high quality (she tends to get off topic.) and the "short answer" questions on every test have at least 5 extra questions each in them.
She is not the worst, but I also don't have a lot of great things to say about her. Her quizzes are extremely difficult and the "short answer questions" are SUPER specific. She allows one drop quiz though. She makes the lab fun and low stress. At the beginning of the quarter there is a lot of homework but as the quarter goes on not as much.
She genuinely cares about her students and wants you to understand the material. The class is lecture heavy, but if you keep up with your notes which she grades you'll be fine. The tests are worded differently than the lecture notes, but they're designed to make you think.I really appreciated Dr. Donovan for making me a critical thinker!
