VERY EASY CLASS. A must take for anyone. The teacher is great, makes the class fun and gets things done as quick as possible. The scheduled hour and a half class only takes 45 minutes or so each time. A++!
Coding on exams and project.
She's a very caring and helpful professor. Very easy to talk to, if you need any help on advising or anything. Best professor that I know so far at this school. Easy class and would definitely take her again.
easy class. assignments and tests are exactly like what u do in class. she's a very caring professor.
She is a nice person but when it comes to the subject matter she is very difficult to please. She is very anal and not willing to work with people who don't catch on immediately. She's a wiz at her topic but is not effective at helping others to achieve the same.

She is a great teacher and she is nice as well. Easy to talk to and she is helpful. UMBC is lucky to have her teaching and working with students.
she is horrible. avoid her if possible. horrible grader, not clear about what she wants on exams, thinks her class is the most important one ever and that you should only focus on it and nothing else. expects WAY too much for 100 level class. worst ever, she should quit or get off the power trip.
Presents the material in a very coherent manner, follows the book very well with lectures. Exams aren't that difficult if you actually pay attention and/or read the book. Also, she is very kind and personable.
The class is directly from the book and if you attend lectures and memorize the answeres from the book, you will get an easy A. There was one paper which you only had to do to get an A. One test was quite unreasonable, however, she did give a small curve on the test to make up for it's difficulty. Overall, not a bad teacher.
I don't know what that one guy is talking about, b/c she a a great professor that knows what she's doing and is very helpful with al lher students. I w uold reccommend her any day.
Long as you read the Powerpoints and the vinettes in the text book she assignes youll do fine on the exams. she doent really give out what to study, just alot of information like chapters 4-7 but they are not cumulative so its not too bad.
She can be short with you, if you get on her nerves or if she's having a bad day. She posts the slides she discusses, so its not really necessary to take notes, unless she specifically says that something will be on the test. If you take the Y-portion with Ms. Lewis, you should have no troubles getting an A. Overall, not a bad teacher.
BS class. Needed it for econ major. Just do the assignments and you'll easily get a B. Tests had "trivia" crap on it, so be sure to memorize the names of people she mentions in the slides.
Pretty easy class. You have to know a good amount of material outside of the book for the exams. Lectures are straight from the powerpoint slides for the book. I used the book very little, mainly for case studies and class discussions and I managed a B. This class is a lot of work, I will caution you on that.
Mrs.Everhart was a great professor. She helps you if needed, she is always in her office during office hours, her grading is explained clearly, exams are fair and overall she's a great a teacher! I would suggest everyone take classes with Everhart.
Ok class and nice professor. Just alot of work.... paper, abstracts, a group project, and exams. If you do the work you should be okay.
She's a great teacher. She's easy to get along with. Funny & quirky. Always available to help. Everything is straight forward.
Easy course, seems very interested in the subject. Very easy to talk to, and easy grading. One term paper that she works you through the semester with deadlines. Tests are directly from the reading and the PowerPoint presentations. Definitely recommend this professor for this course. Funny, too, in class and very easy to approach.
Great teacher and very easy to approach. Exams are all out of the book and powerpoints. Makes it easier to understand info with good examples
She's just absolutely awesome, the best I've had so far in college. Her classes are easy and always so much fun, she's very interesting and is very easy to talk to. She gives you help whenever you need, and she's a very fair grader. STRONGLY RECOMMENED!!
She is a really cool teacher, a lot of fun and very helpful. oh ya and she got jokes lol, but the class was always fun and interesting..she knew how to entertain everyone.. Definately one of the best professors!! Take her class if possible, you will have fun! guaranteed! lol
This is one of the most interesting classes I have ever been enrolled in. The work load is fair and all material has been presented and explained in class. There are plenty of ways to obtain points for those who may not test take well. Ms. Everhart is one of the nicest Profs I've had so far. She makes you want to go to class.
Easy class, just study the powerpoint slides and you'll be fine. The lab section is a breeze really, just Microsoft Office stuff. Mrs. Everhart is a nice lady for the most part, she has her days just like the rest of us but overall I thought she was very helpful when I needed it and a fair grader.
fun and vibrant. passionate and enthusiastic. 3 exams, no finals. one research paper, one group project. 4 article reports, 2 individ present. not hard at all. very interesting material. organized and laid back. fun class. powerpoint lecture. powerpoint/textbook/related readings on exam. exams aren't hard. revise taught material. recommended!!
Ms. Everhart's classes are very well structured and organized. She is pretty lenient and will give you extensions if you ask. Our class was pretty straight forward. Exams were slightly hard, but I didn't have the book. still got a B, little effort. A little closed minded though, can be opinionated.
shes a great professor. really funny. lab work is super easy; only really basic stuff about Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint. one paper which is easy. 3-4 exams which are straight from the powerpoints. don't buy the book. you don't need it. overall very easy course with a great teacher!
This is the best teacher I have ever had.She is extremely nice, she knows what she's talking about & she is very helpful.I go to her often to chat. The class is easy and as long as you do the write-ups on time, you'll pass. Make sure you site your well,if you do,you should get 100% of the extra points. The exams are easy just read and listen in class
she is the best teacher at UMBC. very clear and funny keeps the class interesting it's hard to fail her exam one paper 3 exams very easy read the book no final I really liked. lab is very is too just easy stuff about MS word, access and excel I got A in this class
She is a nice teacher; I wouldn't go as far as saying she's the best. Very VERY easy class. Just show up and re-read the slides before the exam and you're golden. She loves group work.
Fairly simple class; 1 long paper and 4 short article reviews to write (must present 1 of them). Exams are OK -- MC, TF, and several essays but she's a picky grader. Group project at the end is simple, but she does take attendance.
So Far, The best Lecturer I've had @umbc. Exams are fair, 1 6-9p term paper, 4 article reviews-1 u have to present, & a group project. =! an easy A. She knows how to be mean and nice as well so go to cls. She takes attendance. Grade wise, she gives you what you get! no ifs or buts ... If she is teaching a cls take her !!!!
Proof that home-grown professors are Grade-A. Prof. Everhart is very down-to-earth and just an all-around great professor. Her tests are relatively easy, but you will be scratching your brain on some questions. Her lectures are interesting, and she keeps you interested. Would highly recommend her to anyone starting out in IS.
Very good professor for IS101. She is very straightforward, class is very easy in general. Basically no homework and tests are very easy. She is also willing to help you with anything dealing with class or anything school related. Very nice although strict about deadlines, talking in class, etc.
WORST PROF EVER! ITS BETTER TO CHANGE YOUR MAJOR THEN TO TAKE HER! she will roll her eyes on you! if you try to talk to her its pretty freaky..Her test are tough if she tells you something thats going to be on the exam IT WILL NEVER BE on the exam! It isjust a 101 level class and she takes it as its a 400 level.Trust me DON"T take her u will regret
don't take her unless she is the last person on earth alive teaching it. Makes everything complicated for no reason. Easy material, but she is not.
Over all she is a nice teacher and is flexible.
don't buy the Acess 2007 book, because you never use it. pretty easy class. if you read chapter summaries before test and write down important things on PP in class, tests are easy. hard to understand lab teacher
Great professor! She truly cares about the students. If you take notes and pay attention in class, you will succeed. Don't waste money on buying the Access 2007 book for lab - you won't need it.
Doesn't pass back tests during class. She insists on you scheduling an appointment to her office to view them. Also makes you stay till the end of class when you've finished your tests. Tests are 60% multiple choice & 40% 'short answers'.Guilty until proven innocent seems to be her main motto, when it comes to papers.Ridiculous draconian rules.
I received a B in the class. The tests are a little hard because she does not post her powerpoints online, so you have to go to class to get them. She's scary at times but pleasant mostly. Make sure you participate in class discussions and buy both books cus you will need them. The lab book is only $30.
very nice teacher. easy exams and one paper. I loved her class. don't buy the access book for the lab. you won't need it.
Summer IS 300. Was very clear what you needed to know for the test. Very helpful if you have questions. If you do the work, and study what she tells you will be on the test- you will get an A. Not even that much studying, maybe an hour before the test you study, thats all you need as long as you go to class and pay attention. good teacher!
This is truly on of the best professors I've had at UMBC. She is nice and even funny. Also, she brings in cookies when discussing internet cookies. If you have to take IS300 I strongly recommend you take it with her. If you complete everything and study the slides for the exams, you should get an easy A.
As said before, draconian rules. Won't pass back tests, attendance is her pet peeve, will nit pick students for wearing hats, and uses safeassign (horrible way to check papers). THAT BEING SAID, the class is passable, but might want to rethink your options if other teachers are available.
Attendance is mandatory if you expect to get a passing grade. Assigns good amount of homework, articles, and projects to be completed so you have to put in a good amount of work to get a desirable grade. She's friendly, has a great sense of humor and is willing to help her students.
She is very nice and funny at times. I'm taking a class with her and I can see she is one of the best teachers for this course. She assigns 4 article reviews and you have to present one to class. 2 case studies and a research paper. Also, 3 exams.
Best instructor I've met in the IS department at UMBC. She's interested in the course and her students. Attendance is really important to her. I've taken multiple courses with her, she's great!
Wonderful for IS 300; 436 is significantly harder. Not easy, but students learn a tremendous amount. Study well for exams (especially DFD & ERD for Exam 1), choose group members wisely (semester-long proj. - design system), and you'll receive at least a B. If you find yourself in an unmotivated group and/or perform badly on exams, prepare for Hell.
If you're late...you WILL be fried. Will not tolerate phones. She's very motherly which makes her very likeable. Her class is simple and sorta easy to pass, but in class instruction is extremely repetitive and boring, so w/o your phone it is HARD to stay awake. She has SOME days when there's an in class activity. Those are always great!
There's a semester long project for during the first 2 weeks of class, choose your group members wisely. She's expects full concentrations and attendance from her students. Buy the book! HW assignments are from it, and it'll serve you well when it comes time to study for her exams. 2 Quizzes & 2 exams. Around 2-3 HW assignments. It's an easy B.
I love her. She'S FUNNY, makes you want to come to class! Very clear on explanations, engages students to participate. Very helpful during office hours, will consider extra credit. Wish she taught 310 too, not tate redding (horrible). Take notes in class and pay attention, you'll pass. Gives study guides for tests, but you need to know A LOT
She is one of the best professors of the IS department. Really god explaining and what I really like is that her exams are easy if you read and UNDERSTAND the material. They're not trivial questions, you need to know the concepts to apply it to the questions on her exam. As long as you read and pay attention you will be good. Excellent professor
Wonderful at teaching. Shows she is really into teaching and will help you. But when it comes to exams, she is very hard. Her exam reviews are not really helpful. It may seem an easy A in the class but exams will surprise you. YOu are lucky if you get B.
Mrs. Everhart is good about telling us what we need to know for exams, & her lectures are easy to follow. However, she has an attitude. She is very condescending and not approachable. She has ridiculous policies. You have to make an appointment to see your exams. She refuses to pass them back in class. Very nit-picky about written assignments.
Mrs. Everhart is a great professor, but will work you to the bone. The semester project is time consuming and tedious since you have to constantly redo deliverables while working on the next, so make sure you have a competent group. The exams can be difficult. My biggest complaint is that she goes on with pointless sports stories before an exam.
One of the best IS professors for this course. She makes the course content interesting with her fun personality and makes the class more lively. There was a total of two presentations, which were not bad at all since she'd allow you to read from the paper. There were not a lot of written assignments and they were very short and easy.
Awesome person, but not the best teacher. Most of class time is the lectures, which are straight from a power point, which she also post online. The workload and exams aren't bad. She says you need the textbook - you don't. You'll just need to copy 1 case study from a classmate.
The exams are confusing and the second exam she did not give enough time to complete all of the diagrams. She grades harshly. The final project wasn't too difficult but is very time consuming. Do not take this class with expectations of an easy A.
Teaches like she's someone's annoying, naggy mother and you're 5. Never clear on anything, her exams are confusing since she makes up her own questions, so they're all like "Which COULD be the best choice?" Use the book to copy Deliverable examples exactly so you don't lose points like I did.
A lot of the time she treats the class like 5 year old kids. She just goes over the power point the book manufacturer provides. Tests were pretty easy IMO but she could clarify in some questions asked as there could be more than one answer in a MC question. Ended up with an "A" with moderate effort put in.
Just sort of average, and very dry. Not really interested in the material and talked down to the class most of the time. Ok as a person, not so hot as an instructor. Made everyone bored and just wanted to get out of there. Terrible advisor.
Average professor. Avoid taking her class if you can.
Worst professor!!! Don't take her!!
Second course taken with her as an instructor. Great personality as a professor. Not at all an easy teacher but more or less fair. If you want to get an A, take notes in her class along w ppts. Pretty strict on grading papers (Ive lost points simply for APA format mistakes). Easy to meet woutside of class for help.. not enough students do it
How does she have a smiley face? She is rude, unclear about grading, and generally acts like her class is the only class that you have to take. Take with another professor if you can.
90% of class is busy work and offers little or no educational value. Grading is highly subjective, yet she's often vague about her expectations on assignments. Very reminiscent of high school. Disrespectful towards students. Gives important announcements during class that aren't repeated on blackboard, via email, or updated on the syllabus.
Amy tends to come off as disrespectful when she tries to be funny in class. Can be very vague about assignment expectations, and you must schedule an appointment with her in order to see her grade on your test, which doesn't make sense to me. Easy subject matter, but definitely try and take it with another professor if you can.
her test are hard and confusing. you do not need a book. Also, you will write 10 page annotated BIB. her lecture are long and when she says something is on the test it is really not there
She is very unclear about grading criteria for papers and the group project. She will purposefully ignore any corrections or arguments in regards to questions on exams, even if most of the class did not understand. She speaks in a derogatory manner to students and is not recommended in the least. She will not curve, even if there are no A's.
Shes a nice person and all, but she doesnt seem to actually know much about the subject material. She just goes by what the book says, so do yourself a favor and just buy the book for this class. Youll need it if you want a good grade. The material in the class is pretty much common sense, but she will WORK YOU TO THE BONE and shes VERY nitpicky
Okay so there are 3 tests, no final. There is a 10 page annotated Bibliography. There is a group project and she makes you come in to present it during finals week. She is very sassy and not helpful at all. Her sassiness can be funny but when you seriously need help that sassiness will hurt you alot. Her exams are super hard. Dont Skip/Dont Take
Honestly the difficulty of this class taught by professor Everhart is very reasonable for a gateway. She is straightforward in her teachings and expects you to study and write high quality papers. Don't expect to get good grades with last minute work, put effort into each paper and exam and you will do perfectly fine. I enjoyed her Sarcastic humor.
Good professor but pretty hard. Lots of busywork (papers, presentations, homework) but if you put in a solid effort you'll do well. Very hard to get an A, only 5 out of 40 in our class.
She's good about teaching you stuff, because she will make you work really hard, but don't expect to get good grade from her, she grade very tough and bad.
She is overall a very good teacher. She makes you do a lot of work, though it isn't difficult stuff. 3 exams total, just memorize the outlines she posts on blackboard to the fullest and the presentation articles and you are guaranteed atleast an 80 on the exams. Pay attention in class and she pretty much tells you exactly what is on the exam. GL.
Everhart is a good professor for IS! She does teach the subject well and does stress its importance making the class a bit difficult. But if you come to class and study the powerpoint slides then you should be fine. She can be a tough grader however so be check every little detail. Also beware of semester-long paper which can get annoying.
Don't listen to reviews. If you're not lazy and somewhat motivated she is not bad of a teacher. Just attend class she tells you what will be on the exams. The exam MC comes from the cengage practice quizes and half the exam is just remembering article info. She tells you how she wants things and if you follow her rules you will get an A.
She's an ok teacher! You do learn a lot in her class. Make sure to do good on the quizzes and your project, that's all your graded on. My only complaint about her is that she's gets kinda rude sometimes when you visit her during office hours. I'll stop by to ask her questions about the class and she'll look down upon u and answer in a mean way
Worst professor ever! Grades really bad and very unhelpful during office hours. If you ask her any question, expect to get a Mean answer from her. Also she likes to embarass students during class acting like she's some kind of class clown. A few students ended dropping her class because of her sassiness
Tough grader but she is reasonable and is just looking for quality work. Many student's are not willing to put in the work required to earn a decent grade in this class and are shocked when they get bad grades. Some IS professors let you slide with poor quality work and Everhart is not one of them. If you schedule office hours she is very helpful.
Everhart is a good professor and class is generally enjoyable and educational. Her tests are difficult however. In IS436 there were 6 quizzes each worth 12.5% each and the group project. You really have to read the book or spend a good amount of time studying to get decent grades on the quizzes.
Great teacher. Smart, knows her stuff, will admit when she's made a mistake. She does not tolerate you screwing off during class. Pay attention! The final project is a lot of work but it's not HARD work. She cares about your success and she'll help you out outside of class. Good prof!
Amy is awful. She's extremely rude and has no regard for student success. If she chooses not to like you for some reason, she will fail you. She gave me a 79 and would not round me up because she believed I didn't pay attention during class. I always had my slides open on my laptop. Be careful taking her.
1st of all she's Rude, her 6 quizzes are 75% of the overall grade. she does not mess around grading. failed both of my quizzes even though I felt like I understood the material pretty well.
First things first Everhart is the worst. She will let you fail and feel nothing about it even she sees that you put in your best effort. I had her for IS 300 and thought she was alright but for this class AVOID HER BY ALL MEANS.
She is a fun teacher. She may come off as rude or petty but the class itself is not difficult. STUDY THE LECTURE NOTES SHE POSTS ONLINE AND PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS. She literally tells you whats on big parts of the tests. Study HARD for exam 2 (hardest exam). She is very snarky at times but dont get offended, thats just how she is. She means well.
Prof Everhart is amazing! Don't listen to everyone else, she does come off as snarky sometimes but that's if you don't get her sarcasm and humor (also if you act up). She's very clear about grading and the assignments are relatively easy. Tells you word for word what's on exams. Material is really easy to memorize.
Loved her class. Exams were fair and she told you what was on the exam. Textbook was not really needed, just go to lecture. A few presentations and some small writing assingments.
Hilarious, A professor that will call you out on things that (most professors should) but don't. She comes off as strict, but If you look deeper you can tell she cares and is trying to mold her students to what they will experience in the 'real world' work force. Late? Called out.. You also learn a lot, she gets you used to presenting to others. <3
She's fairly interested in what she's teaching but falls back to PPTs for most of the class. It's understandable, but that coupled with the frequency of writing assignments makes it feel a little tedious. Solid teacher with a decent sense of humour. Would recommend taking this class.
Show up to class, ask questions in debates and on presentations. Lectures covered common sense content so were boring but easy to understand. Gives many hints about exam content. Exams consist of short answers and some m/c. Does have two writing assignments and 4 short news article reviews. She was trying a new textbook so textbook wasn't needed.
Her attitude towards her students needs to change. Frequently responds to students questions with a lot of sass. She genuinely has no respect for students who ask "stupid" questions. Frequently forgets to explain course items and projects and blames it on her students instead. Horrible attitude and demeanor and does not abide by the syllabus.
Very tough grader, 4 tests 60% of your grade, thought I knew the material going into the 1st and 2nd test, and even knew the stuff she said was going to be on the test but ended up failing both test and had to drop the class. Now I need to re-take this class with a different teacher..
There are debates and presentations and the homework is mainly a bunch of essays. It's not necessarily a difficult class, but she just gives a lot of unnecessary work. Participating is really important too. The tests are a combination of random things she throws out in class and textbook information. So, if you skip class, you might fail the tests.
Lectures were pretty straightforward; ppts and articles. Everhart wasn't 'rude' to any students during my enrollment, in fact the entire class had a nice bond. Debates & presentations are mandatory. Tests on the other hand were a problem. There are book questions & some from class presentations as well. Surprisingly tough & grade heavy, had to WD.
Mrs. Everhart is actually a good professor. The workload was not as insane as others have put it. If you have good time management skills, and ask her for feedback earlier before the due date, you will be set. Also it helps to take copious notes of her talking points since they will be on every exam. Reading the textbook and slides are a must.
Is-300 she seems nice personally, and neat in her work. Teaching, updating syllbus, and handing back student work on time is her quality. But this all are nonsense if her grading style is so awful. Exam covered 60%, and 40% of each exam is explanation and she is awful grading this part. Careless whether you pass or not, that is her awfulness.
Tough grader, nice professor in honesty. i dont like her style
The best way to describe amy in is 436 is the way a classmate described her, "overbearing and underwhelming" She will take such an easy class and find ways to make it complicated and unnecessarily hard. Put in the work and be prepared and u should be fine, expect her to lowball you and bomb an exam or two
Classes don't have any substance. She just reads off from the slides. Inflexible even when things were tough (The Coronavirus). I would not recommend her at all and Miss Everhard, if you're reading this review, I hope you're having a nice day, but your teaching style needs a lot of improvements.
I think Everhart is an ok professor - she cares about her students and presents lectures professionally - but she's not very interesting or engaging as a person. The class isn't very difficult - you have 4 article reviews, an annotated bibliography, and a debate, not to mention the 4 exams - but none are too hard if you pay attention. Class was ok.
rude, sassy, doesn't care if you pass or not. painfully harsh on her grading and does not realize her mistakes. yeah, you probably will learn a lot in her class. will you pass though even if you learn? 100% nah.
complains about grading but she's assigning all that joint. if you take this class, make sure it's the only one in your schedule because it's difficult.
I felt that she was unwilling to listen to student feedback about quizzes. Especially when the error was on her hand. Didn't seem to understand the technology that was being used in Blackboard which lead to a lot of confusion for the quizzes. Study for quizzes and make sure you do your deliverable resubmits on the project. She's not THAT bad
Amy is an amazing professor you just have to talk with her. She listened to me complain about peer evaluations & had her look over my assignment before my presentation and got 100%. All the people complaining probably never talked to her outside of class. 10/10 would take her class again! Just talk to her like a human being and you will pass
Good professor. Explains well and tried to engage students. Harsh grader though when it comes to citations. Exams are also rather hard so study a lot. Workload isn't too bad. Ask for clarification when you need it. Key takeaway: CITATIONS MATTER so be sure you get them right and study for exams.
Everhart is a good professor. I ended up having to retake this class and retook it with her again. As long as you ask for clarification on assignments and things she is happy to explain. Bit of a picky grader though. Her tests are hard but if you study well you can get at least a B on them. She tries to engage students during lectures with groups
She is the worst Professor I have ever had at UMBC. Do not take her!!! She has a bad attitude with her students and is not a helpful professor. She made us work with an actual real company for the group project and does not even show you what parts of the deliverable are supposed to look like or talk through it. She just says refer to the book.
She does not care about what students learn and take with them.
I am very surprised by the amount of negative reviews here. Prof was very passionate when I took her class and made sure we understood the material. Her lectures are great if you're attentive and engage in the group activities. The group project looks scary but isn't that bad as long as you follow directions. The hardest part were the class quizzes
I liked Professor Amy. Do not underestimate her class as I did. She wants you to learn the material, so you need to study hard. She will be retiring soon so this comment doesn't matter anymore I guess. Enjoy the retirement Professor Amy! Good luck!
All I can say is thank God she retired. I get that she wants us to understand the content, but she needed to understand that school is not free. We pay for everything, so being harsh was not going to help us at all.
