She break every thing down to you. She is very clear and helpful. She makes math very simple. She is straight to the point. She does not believe in letting you leave class early, but very excellent teacher.
excellent teacher
Extremely clear, wants you to understand the subject. Refreshing
Very nice and helpful. Makes it her goal to see that everyone understands.
I had this class in Spring '06. Amazing teacher. BEST Math teacher I have ever had.
I had Amy for both 102 and 103. She is fantastic. The best instructor I've had at cscc. She breaks everything down clearly and is very invested in teaching this subject.
She was very thorough with her teaching. I took this class twice before her and had one teacher who didn't know what he was doing and the other explained 5 different ways to do one problem. Amy got straight to the point and showed us the easy way of doing the problems. She would make sure that every student understood her.
AMy is one of the best teacher you will find in cscc. take her i got "A" from her math 102 and 103. Make sure you do homework some problem will show up on test and it will halp you alot. take amy
One of if not the best math professor I've ever had. She helped me not just in math but in getting me back in to college. If you can, take this class!
She's one of the best teachers I ever had and probably the best math teacher I've ever had. She explains things in simple ways to her students, so it's really easy to understand the math involved in the class. I wish she was my math 104 teacher, because the one I have now is terrible.
SHE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR THAT I HAVE EVER HAD
I would recommend Amy to anyone. She prepared students for upcoming quizzes and tests; it was hard not to understand the material. She is very energetic and appeared to have passion in her job.
She is the best math teacher ever! That was the first math class that I understood what was being taught! She was so helpful and patient with every student, no matter what the question. Attending class is important. She tries to give a little extra credit to boost your grade before the final. She was so great! Take her!!!
Very helpful and a great teacher I would recommend her to anyway. I took the class spring 07. I'm not really that great of a math student and ended up acing the class (much due to the teacher and enjoying going to class).
Covered the material extremely well. Was very prompt on getting quizzes back before tests. Did a great job explaining things to me when I didn't particularly like the subject, I got an A and that is a miracle.
Makes the class easy and you underdstand everything in the class.
Best Math Teacher I have EVER had!!! She makes everything very easy to understand. I learned more in her class than anywhere else.
she teaches like we're 5 yrs old, but not in a bad way. she really makes sure you understand and makes learning math fun and easy.
Great teacher, almost everyone in my class asked her to teach 132 next quarter. She is REALLY nice, helpful, and understanding. She explained the course material w/out using the methods that the book used which made the class very understandable. I Highly recommend her. dont skip class and if U do, dont blame her for not understanding the material!
I highly recommend Amy! She is an amazing instructor! Lectures are very easy to follow due to her breaking everything down. Quizzes and tests are not extremely hard, but only if you are prepared. Overall, awesome!
Professor Amy Hatfield deserves nothing less than a 5.0 rating for her clarity, helpfulness, & expertise. I am looking up national awards to nominate her for. She is truly a diamond in the rough at Columbus State; by far the most adaptable, patient, & understanding professor I have ever had. A 350-character limit cannot do Amy Hatfield justice.
Her teaching style is very confusing and not very helpful.
Really good teacher! As long as you attempt to answer the problem she will give you some points. Dont need the textbook b/c she gives really good detailed notes. Do the problems several times in your notes, and you will ace the test. Plus, she gives test reviews and some quizzes are take home. Easy teacher you could have for Math
Most amazing teacher at CSCC. I had her for 2 quarters and wish she could teach all my classes from here on out. Very understanding and extremely helpful! Best teacher i've ever had! Will go above and beyond to make sure you understand all the material and very patient!! If you can, take her class!
Amy is the best teacher I have ever had and I keep trying to take another of her classes. She breaks down the material so those of us that haven't been in school for the last 15 years or so can catch back up easily.
She is one of the best Math teacher her at Columbus state. She makes math understandbal. She would go out her way to help you. I wish I could have for the rest of my math classes.
Professor Hatfield is the best teacher if your scared of math or if it's hard to understand she goes out of her way until you get it and she let's you call her she will not leave you behind you will exceed your own expectations...love her love her love her...this is coming from a old lady who is scared of math, take her you will be pleased
She is a great teacher! She gives you pretests with a key to go along with them! She always gives you a key when she passes back the quizzes. Awesome teacher.
She is quite possibly the best teacher ive had in college so far. Extremely helpful and clear.
Most definitely...best teacher I have experienced at CSCC. Very clear lectures/crystal clear notes. Wish that any previous algebra teachers at CSCC were capable of using her teaching method. She teaches the concepts behind the math...other than throwing prolems on the board and saying "do it like this". Take her class, you will be amazed.
Really helpful, wants everyone to succeed. easy on the eyes too
This teacher is awesome.....I have taken this course 2x prior to her and needless to say the other professors were no match....I HIHGLY recommend Amy Hatfield!
Mrs. Hatfield was a very good teacher. I unfortunately had to drop 104 the first time because the previous teacher I had wasn't nearly as clear. She explains everything very well and does a great job of preparing you for the final. Strongly recommended.
I love Amy. She is one of the best teachers I ever had at CSCC, the school where I dont have many good experience. But Amy is really easy going and helpful. She cares about her students. BTW, she is very beautiful!!!!
Mrs. Hatfield is extremely organized and helpful. The material in this class was difficult, but she will work with you until you understand. Tests and quizzes were fairly simple. Would definitely recommend her.
Amy is the best math professor i've ever had. She is clear and prepares you exceptionally well for all tests and quizzes. I've had her as a professor twice she was so wonderful. Do not pass up a class with Ms Hatfield. I promise you, you will not be dissatisfied!
she gives quizzes every class period. I have her 2 days out the week so that is 25 quizzes. Study for them bc they add up.4 pretest worth 4 pts each. 4 test 70 pts each. fnl worth 125 pts. COME TO CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION & STUDY HARD OR ELSE. nice lady, but all the testing that goes on isnt necessary. requires mymathlab bummer & textbook not needed
avoid her if possible, she seems to get irritated easily by questions, while ur asking she cuts you off to answer, but she never answers it right. she goes way to fast, lectures are unorganized and all over the place, which confuses you, she takes forever to grade. And any other comments from others for 2013 are true also. ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT THO
Extremely helpful and presents the material clearly. Takes time to answer students questions and does tons of example problems to help students understand the concepts presented. Goes out of her way to help students succeed.
Amy's great! Knows her stuff very well and goes over lots of examples, walking you through each one. There's a quiz every class but it's only 1 or 2 problems, very easy points. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Sometimes quizzes were just attendance. Her tests/quizzes are easy. She wants you to learn, she's not trying to trick you. Couple problems from each section to make sure you understand the concepts. Best math prof I've had at cstate! Took fall13
She is AMAZING. This comment is coming from a student who had to take this math course TWO times and by the third time around I was about to give up BUT she helped me get through this class. There are a lot of points awarded so GO TO CLASS. Text book not needed! I would DEFINITELY recommend her!
I think she'd be better for a lower level math. She's very disorganized and often would start a new problem before finishing the first. When I would ask for help, she always seemed in a rush, but always attempted to try and help. She means well, just horrible at conveying material (very scatter brained). Oh, and daily quizzes (even before exams).
She's really a great teacher I ever had in CSCC, and she's not harsh at all in grading. Since a lot comments show that she has a lot quiz, I do think she doesn't care about the grades, she just wanna let you have a good understanding for the last class and prepare for the new stuff she's going to talk about. Clarifies are very good..
you like math? skip this teacher. wanna see someone BS all day? take this teacher. straight up.
She does her best to help you pass the class. Instructions not always clear. Some answers on the keys were wrong. Types of problems on the tests were not always consistent. Gives unlimited opportunities to do MML homework so you can learn how to work the problems without being penalized. Sometimes puts problems on test unlike anything from class.
She does seem rushed most classes, and if you deliberately don't try (someone repeatedly fell asleep) she won't put herself out to help, but she has great teaching technique. Her lectures are helpful and everything in class prepares you for the tests, which aren't too bad. Don't buy a hard copy book, just get a code (you'll need it).
Amy is an awesome professor and I had her for 1075. Although in her higher level classes she's not very organized. I learned more at the math lab with the tutors than in her class. She moves REALLY fast so you really have to keep up. Quizzes are given in every class. Tests are similar to study guide but expect unexpected questions!
Amy is an excellent teacher. Her loving heart and warm spirit is inspiring and it made me enjoy going to class twice a week. She gives quizzes every class day to encourage students to come to class. They're not hard if you come to class and do the homework. BE THERE.
great professor.
Amy is a great math professor. She is really good at explaining things and also she is willing to help students outside of the class. She has quizzes everyday which will make you go prepare for class. Those quizzes helps a lot with grades and she also has lots of extra credit options. Be aware FINAL IS TOUGH but I will still recommend her.
Great professor she works very hard to hep you pass.
Professor Hatfield goes out of her way to help you as a student if you show her that you are trying. I am a reservist and I did not pass her summer class because I was gone from class too much. However, she let me reschedule all the tests I miss with little hassle. Summer is a short time to learn a lot of material but she helped me more than anyone
Might as well be an online class for how much time is spent on the computer doing Connect Math, Aleks, AND Smartbook. Her teaching style is incredibly disorganized. If you take notes, expect to erase a lot; as she seems to be prone to mistakes. Math problems completed in class are nowhere similar to the ones found in the homework. Not helpful.
This teacher was amazing! I took math 1075 two times before I had her. First time was online, big mistake. Second time was blended.. still a mistake. Her class was easy to pass. She gives so much extra credit and as long as you pay attention and do the homework and extra credit, you'll pass.
She seams to lack the basic math skills, makes lots of mistakes in her lectures. Good luck making up something you miss, even if you have a doctors note or your grandparents obituary to proveprove you where at there funeral. The test are an easy A but not enough points to pass the most boring and repetitive math class you will ever sit in.
she rushes all the material and gives poor notes. Doesn't show enough examples of what you are learning. Gives a lot of extra credit and gives you options of office hours for one on one help. Gives to much online work. doesn't know how to break problems down.
Not very organized and seemed to rely on the online tools as a crutch to make up for her inability, or outright refusal in many cases, to explain anything from the lecture. Read the book, don't expect anything from class other than free points from the daily quizzes.
She put a lot of effort into breaking down problems and drilling new concepts. The workload out of class kept me engaged but could have easily piled up. She was pretty lenient with due dates though, so it balanced out. Lots of quizzes.
She was awesome for my class. I had to attend the math1099 class and was put in math1050. She was very helpful on anything that I was having a hard time understanding. Great teacher!!
Ms. Hatfield was an excellent instructor for Trig. I can't speak to any other course numbers, but my experience was positive as I got a much better understanding of the material.
Hatfield is a great instructor. She breaks down everything piece by piece, and she is very easy to follow.
After not doing well on Test 1, got an E... she told me "Maybe Math is not for you!" Even though I stayed in her class for the entire semester which nobody would after what she said, I highly recommend taking other teachers that don't knock down weak foundation students especially in Math. #Sad
Mrs. Hatfield was by far one of the best teachers I have ever had. I HATE math and was dreading taking the class. She assigns lots of homework, & I would have to spend at least like 4 hours a week doing homework. She is great at explaining math problems, and is always positive and helpful, but she likes the students that put forth the effort.
Mrs. Hatfield was amazing! She continued my love for math and had a pretty relaxed class. She was very helpful during office hours. She would return calls ASAP and emails as well. Wish I could fit her into my schedule every semester
Here's the deal: if you expect her to teach you everything you need to know in one sitting, you're gonna get screwed. You have to actually work and think independently in math to get it. I finally learned to think about problems instead of recognize patterns in her class; in part because she makes you learn it the right way. I loved having her!
Really impressed with her! She gives a ton of partial credit, even if you get the final answer wrong. I once only got half the final answer (there were 2 possible solutions and I only got 1) and she only took off 1/2 point (out of 7). She's super nice and caring, and really helps you to understand the work. Also, occasional extra creds in tests.
Amy was amazing! I've gone from MATH 1050 to (soon to be) 1151 in less than a year. That's elementary algebra, pre algebra, algebra, trig, and calc in about a year's time. She put so much effort into teaching this class. Extra credit and partial credit on exams, etc. all to be expected. MATH 1148/1194 was literally a life saver thanks to Amy!
Shes such a cute and bubbly professor. Honestly there is NO excuse to not pass this class. Shes very helpful and make you understand math easily. Skipping class will not help and attendance is absolutely mandatory. She does have her mistakes here and there but overall I loved this class. WOULD 100% RECOMMENDATION!!
Honestly the best math teacher i had I was fresh out of high school and was not ready for Math 1099 and always fought to get out of it cause being behind a computer bothered me alot but Mrs. Hatfield helped me fight through it and helped me score a 97% on my Final Exam and passed the class she's honestly the best math teacher anyone can ask for.
She rushes everything and doesn't help you when you really need the help. She states she's a good teacher but i find it false. Don't Take Her Class!!!
I've always been pretty good at math but this class was so rough. She gave us textbook definitions and barely explained them. She did hardly any examples in class and the tests were nothing like the few problems we did do. The final was ridiculously hard, & we had 2-3 HW assignments a week that took 3+ hours each. I only passed bc of Khan Academy.
Prof Hatfield is the best Math teacher I've ever had. She genuinely cares about students. Makes sure everyone gets one-on-one tutoring in order to pass her class. I actually dropped another prof's class to take hers because she came HIGHLY recommended. Now I tell all my friend to take her classes!
This class was difficult, but if you do the homework and show up for class, you'll get a good grade. She was my previous professor in another Math class and I made sure to take another class with her because she's awesome!
Amy was the first professor I ever had in college. She came off as really nice and was very helpful throughout most of the semester. She even helped one of my group partners with a job interview over the phone! She truly cares about her students.
You will have a lot of things to submit in this class. She will give more credit if you show work during tests and submit it. Didn't do any lectures or scheduled class times. Pretty much work on your own pace with deadlines set. She is really helpful if you have questions!
grades exams harshly
Im almost done and ready to transfer to OSU, This is my first Review. Professor Hatfield is WOW. Her methods of teaching are better than ANY other professor. There are short videos on edpuzzle that you use to complete notes in a guided notes style textbook. I don't have enough characters to explain how amazing she is, trust me & take her class!!!!
This is a hard course however Dr. Hatfield truly cares about the success of her students. She is extremely helpful and will meet with you to ensure you understand the material. Lots of homework. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend her for ANY math course!
she makes these litle videos that are incredibly dull and painful to listen to. they take up the entirety of our classes and can take hours to complete. its a horrible, boring class. would recommend eating glass instead.
Mrs, Hatfield is the worst professor when you don't understand the content. She heavily relies on the Edpuzzles and Aleks to teach you how to do the work. it's a very fast-paced class, DO NOT TAKE if you don't have to. not for the average person who doesn't like math. Passive aggressive when answering questions and gives a heavy workload.
The class is a lot of work. I was successful in this class just by completing the assignments and showing up for class. If you do the work, you should be fine. Most of the people who were upset in my class didn't do all the assignments and didn't show up for class. If you want a professor to spoon-feed you, this isn't the professor for you.
The course itself was challenging, but Professor Hatfield is amazing. She truly wants students to succeed. I met with her almost every week for office hours and she went out of her way to make sure I understood the material. The course consists of Edpuzzle lectures, quizzes, and several tests. Follow the outlined course calendar and you'll do well!
Way too much due each week. 6 hours of ALEKS, up to an hour of guided notes and random videos with guided questions is just too much for a busy student. On top of that, she can be passive aggressive when answering questions and just generally moves way too fast. 100% do NOT recommend.
I am 16, I'm a part time high school CCP student, and I have a daughter. I'm emancipated and single, so I am the sole provider for my daughter. I am not great with math so this class made me very nervous, but Professor Hatfield is wonderful. I won't lie, its a lot of work, but with time management skills I was able to finish the course with a B.
There is a LOT of work done both inside and outside of class, but frankly it does help with practicing and sometimes old sections are brought up again in case you've forgotten anything so it's fresh once again. I had her class at noon so she also brought in snacks for everyone. She responds to emails quickly too and is overall kind and helpful.
If you struggle with math, this professor is not for you. She teaches 2-3 concepts a week and expects you to remember all the equations, formulas, and concepts. Attendance is mandatory and if you miss more than 5 times your grade will drop a letter grade.
While she was very kind, there are just some teachers who cannot reach students and as someone who greatly struggled in this class, I was one of those students. I did the homework, did well on edpuzzle (you will dread those), but failed every exam. Very hard class.
If you did not attend more than 4 classes, you are going to be dropped from this class .If you miss just one class you may find yourself a weekbehind to catch (20 chapter on total) . After learning 2 chapters you have a quiz after learning 5 you have a test ,and verse ver ca . Teacher is fine ,helpful ,and rude rarely.
Overall, great professor. Uses ALEKS and EdPuzzle. It is a fast-paced class, so you cannot afford to fall behind. I took this during the summer, so it was even more fast-paced than usual.
All of 1146 is structured this way: 3 Tests, 1 Final. 6 Quizzes. 3 Notebook Checks (they check edpuzzles notebook). 3 binder checks (you pay for a binder, and pay for paper and use the paper, and then they check if you're filling out.) If you tend to miss assignments & class it's a HUGE no, no. 3 worksheets per class aswell that go in ur binder.
Same commenter as before here, more info for y'all. She's the lead instructor for 1146, she prob gives her classes leverage but not others. Other classes have an average of 66% average class grade. You have 3 other things due the same week too. Aleks, 3 worksheets in class, Edpuzzles (14 units). All of it is crammed so just memorize don't learn.
Professor Hatfield's class was hands on and involved. You cannot miss class or you will fall behind. You have to put in a decent bit of effort or you will fail. She holds you very accountable and makes it clear what you need to have done and know by certain dates. Seats were random everyday and you have to work in groups not ideal for introvert
A lot of work due each week but the class was structured in a way that allows you to pace yourself and to anticipate the workload for the week. She took a while to respond to emails and they weren't super helpful. The class was pretty straightforward and fast paced.
I have taken MATH1146 twice. This class is set up for students to fail. If you miss ALEKS, Edpuzzle or class. You receive an NP. if you get more than 3 NPs you go down a letter grade. The class is very fast paced and usually the teachers teaching just follow a syllabus and are learning along with you. Take another class if possible.
She is very helpful and kind and understanding you just have to be sure to communicate your concerns to her. She responds promptly. The course load is a lot but it's a cery organized class so it's easy to keep up.
This class was insane to take my first semester. The workload is so intense and you just end up feeling the need to cheat to get through it because this professor does not understand having work for other classes, let alone a life outside of this class. The professor was passive aggressive and made constant mistakes which wastes everyone's time.
She was nice, but she gives a ridiculous work load. I mean multiple assignments due 6 days a week. Leaves no room for other classes or work outside of school. Too many topics taught in a week, as well. There's just no way to actually learn the material as quickly as she “teaches” it.
This “professor” isn't professional at ALL. She's very careless, only about herself and doesn't care about you at all. She'll refuse to give you your accommodations, and She'll ignore your emails once you've continued to ask for your legal accommodations that she doesn't want to give. 0 out of 10 she's selfish & careless, especially about students.
She gives entirely TOO much work to do. You would have to only take this class for the semester to be able to stay focused, memorize all the material, and do good on the tests. Definitely not a class to take if you have others, you have assignments due for basically every day of the week and too fast paced for how much material is to be learned.
worst professor ever, she does
The best professor I have had throughout my entire experience at CSCC. Unlike many professors, she is very understanding and willing to work with you and your schedule. I had been dealing with a lot outside of school, and she never took more than a day to get back to my emails, and was always willing to do what she could to ensure that I passed!
She gives a very clear syllabus on what she expects from everyone. There is a lot of course work, but it can be managed if you don't do it last minute. There are also opportunities to skip out on some of the homework, which is helpful for when the workload feels overwhelming. She is also very nice and easy to reach out to!
Makes unecessary assignments, don't recommend
I was taking this class online over the summer. I thought I could push through it but had to drop due to the amount of content thrown at me. She would want us to learn and master a few units per week. There's SO MUCH I could say but I don't have enough characters. I think my biggest gripe was her assigning homework that had nothing to do with math.
she was the worse teacher in cstate, she didn't give extra credit and when you're late for whatever reason she won't let you take the exam either
This professor may be good in person but is not a good online teacher at all. Assigns daily hw, often unrelated to the math you're actually studying, doesn't make the tests and lets AI do everything so that the tests are never what the 'review' she gives you says, doesn't reply in any timely fashion and honestly doesn't care. Save your money/time.
Amy Hatfield is not a great professors towards her students she does stuff to complicate you like Act and T3
you come to her class to fail so drop her class immediately
I loved Mrs Hatfield! This class is a lot of work, but it is manageable. Mrs Hatfield always was very kind to me and answered my emails in a timely manner.
Amy Hatfield is what you would expect as an instructor. I took the summer class and yes it was alot of work, HOWEVER you are given an entire week to complete homework. Don't believe these comments rating her extremely low, she is willing to help you out when you ask for help, she also brings in snacks for you.
absolutely not. dont ever continue to have this professor. requires 18 hours of math per week, not very friendly, and overall just rude. save yourself now!!!!!!!!
Lots lots lots of homework. Not necessarily hard homework, but very time consuming. Answered emails fast in the beginning/middle of the semester, but once thanksgiving break hit she completely left emails unanswered, so if you have questions make sure you ask them before it gets too close to the end of the semester.
