She is a great Professor. Any one who says anything bad about her just really hates Biology. It is a fun and easy class that I expect to do great in.

Its really hard to find professors that truly care about the well being of their students. I love this woman shes nice and she wants everyone to pass. She takes the time to help everyone understand. NEVER take subermanian shes awfull.

This professor is great! she really does care. Its not a blow of class, she actually teachs it well and is helpful and is there anytime. She uses webct and gets your grades back fast and has all the notes and reviews. i really would recommend her to anyone, she is is easy going.

Great professor who tries to make Biology interesting. She is not easy, but will help you in every way she can so you can understand the material. She is fair and gives you chances to bring your grade up through class activities, quizes, etc. You can tell she enjoys what she teaches.

She is an exemplary professor. Contrary to what some people say, Biology 1406 is not an easy class, but it's required for many majors. Dr. Helms makes it interesting and engaging. She listens to what students are saying and adapts accordingly. I hope you are lucky enough to get her. P.S. Get her for Lab too!

Great teacher! Hard material but she always willing to help students learn. She is very approachable and wants her students to do well. Take her for lab too if possible.

Ask for help, she does her best to help you succeed. LOTS of bonus opportunities. Tests are a little difficult if you don't review. Lectures are based on power points which correlate to the book verbatim. Easy A if you make a genuine effort.

Dr. Helms wants you to understand the material and if the class doesn't understand, she will stop and explain it again. She was very helpful. She offers a lot of opportunities to improve your grade and she is fun!

If one fails this class, the blame is on the student only, not Dr. Helms. Dr. Helms is a wonderful professor who tries her best to make sure the students understand the material. Biology is a difficult subject, so any professor is going to seem hard. This is not a class for lazy people. If you try, you should pass. I highly recommend Dr. Helms

Dr. Helms does a great job of teaching this class, I highly recommend her. She has different techniques is teaching which really helps. Give lots of brownie points, and is always willing to help. Take lots of notes and read power points before and after class and you should have no problem passing this class.

Dr. Helms tested directly off her lecture. She was very helpful to students that struggled and was very clear in her teaching. SHE'S THE BEST!!!

Dr. Helms is a solid Professor that is easy to understand and very easy to approach with questions. I would be happy to have her again for my advanced classes.

Awesome professor! Knows her stuff! She puts notes and grades on WebCT. Gives extra credit frequently. Tests are essay/multiple choice, but not too difficult as long as you study. Quizzes are always fill in the blank. Out of five tests the lowest is dropped.

This professor is extremely good. She tries to make her lectures interesting and is very nice. I would take her again if I had to.

She is easily the funniest, most helpful teacher I have ever had. Even though the tests can be hard, if you study you'll get a good grade. I recommend her for lecture and lab!

She explains everything very well and encourages you to come to her office. She's often there even when she doesn't have office hours in case you have questions. She gives you all the material you need for the test, and if you study what she lectures, you'll end up with a good grade. I came out of there with an A, happy to be a Biology major.

Dr. Helms is INCREDIBLE. She has a great approach and willingness to help you succeed. She is definitely challenging and expects you to THINK (novel that) and apply information. It had been nearly 15 years since I had been in college and I could not have made a more right decision to take her. THANK YOU AMY!!!

first off i would like to say whoever does NOT like Amy Helms is just stupid! She is a prof who truly cares about her students. She does WAY more than she ever should and goes way out of her way to help her students.Ask questions and study!! If you just go talk to her, she will help you! People who don't study, well yes! LOVED LOVED LOVED Dr. Helms! She is so helpful and takes time that isn't required of her to help her students. She uses her whiteboard frequently to draw hard-to-understand concepts for you visual learners. Her tests are conceptual so expect to STUDY! In the end, you will benefit tremendously from her teaching style.

Dr Helms is a GREAT teacher and really cares about her students! She is ALWAYS available and will drop anything to help at any time. She is very smart, knowledgeable, and passionate about Biology and really wants her students to understand the subject matter. You will work in this class, but you will learn. Would love to have her for another class

Dr. Helms is a great biology teacher! She uses lots of drawings when explaining the material. She is kinda of querky sometimes which helps during the class. Her test are pretty intense and includes a little bit of short answer, multiple choice, matching and drawing pictures. She also gives you a ton of extra credit! If you dont pass then your lazy

She is a great professor and really clear in her lectures. Make sure you REALLY understand the powerpoints though because they are the majority of the test. Lots of short answer questions but not too many surprises. Overall, I think she's a great teacher and I'm taking her again for Micro 2421 :)

She is a very easy grader. She is always nice and calm and easy to work with. The first couple chapter was hard but trust me if you can put something on the paper she will give you the points. BTY, she don't do multiple choice all are fill the blank.

If you are interested in learning and giving yourself a good solid foundation in biology take her class. You have to earn your grade with her. One of the best teachers I have had.

this lady was great! I love her test they were essay style but she would read them all and give you partial credit if you have some of it right. Just do the the work you you will be just fine. I made an A+

Dr. Helm has been the best teaching skills I have ever seen! She repeats harder to learn material, brings props to help better understand and teaches tricks to help remember. What I have learned in her class with stay with me forever. Her tests are on the more difficult side because half of it is short answer but its things you should know. :)

She was a great professor. There was only a couple of things I did not like. For one she did not take attendence which I always like and second to me her grading is not fair!

Her class is not a fly class, but you will learn a lot. She is willing to help, just have to ask for it.

I took her Intro to Biotechnology this past semester. I was able to really apply my studies in psychology and neuroscience into this class. She is very helpful, not too many quizzes or tests (to say the least). You can go in without a concrete background in Biology. Take her class, she makes it fun.

I would recommend Professor Helms to anyone. She is polite, helpful, and makes the class far more enjoyable than I had expected. Helms was always willing to help and answer any questions, as long as she saw your effort. Come to class, pay attention, and put forth the effort and an A should not be difficult to receive.

She is a GREAT professor! I just took her for biology and was so scared to see my grade! Turns out I got an A! She is very clear on what she expect, provides great notes and examples!!She loves what she teaches. As long as you attend class and ALWAYS review the notes, you shall pass.Make sure to study because test are short answer. I WOULD TAKE HER

She is a great professor & a great person. Really nice! She will do anything to help you. I have over 100 hours of college, & I will remember her micro class b/c of her. Tests were short answer, but I am grateful b/c that is the best way to learn. If you don’t like the test format, guess what: this is COLLEGE! Microbiology is an advanced biology.

all and all she's an alright professor,she's always there to help you but her tests are very difficult.The material she covers in her power points aren't always on the tests and i agree with the fact that she mentions things that are going to appear on the exams aren't always on them..so you pretty much waste time studying on wasteful topics

Dr. Helms is great. Very reasonable expectations for a biology class; no endless memorization of obscure facts. Focuses on the big picture, the stuff that's actually important. Made sure to try and tailor the course to fit the learning needs of the students and their future careers. Really made learning microbiology a lot of fun.

Requires constant study for A. Gives lots of bonus opportunities. Slowest grader ever!!Typical to not have last exam grade back before taking the next one. Makes class interesting and focuses on teaching big picture instead of insignificant details. Reasonable expectations but lots of hard work.

Best teacher I have ever had. She may not return papers quickly but she will sure answer an email or Facebook question in less than 5 mins even on weekends. She actually wants her students to learn and although I probably drove her insane with questions, she never let on. All Micro teachers have fill in tests. Welcome to the upper level science

Excellent prof. Enthusiastic-gets your interest. Tests are challenging - short ans., but incl ample bonus pt opps. & both project & labs were fun. Test review incl material not on test, but covers what you needed to know from that section of class (pt of the class is to learn, not just learn enough to pass a test). Sched WILL vary from planned.

Professor Helms is an amazing educator!! This class is for people moving into upper level sciences, she prepares you to write proper lab reports & think outside the box! If you are a nursing major u need to start thinking and learning in the mode she is instructing, it will only benefit u so you can pass the Nclex. Don't take if u r not serious!!

Wants you to succeed, ALWAYS available for consultation, also has candy. Very kind woman and passionate about biology. IF you study, you will make an A. This is BIO for science majors, don't expect to just breeze by…but she makes it doable. Got an A and would absolutely take her again.

Dr. Helms is the best professor I have had! I took the honors class and got an A, but it was not easy. I loved the class and actually learned a lot from it. You definitely have to study and ask questions as you go. She has office hours and is ALWAYS willing to meet if you are struggling. Need book to help understand it more. Taking her microbiology

Professor Helms really cares for the students' understanding; she definitely wants to help. There are plenty extra credit opportunities. Even though her tests are not multiple choice, they are straight from the lecture. I even liked her tests better this way.

Dr. Helms has changed things up and has added multiple choice to her exams. Her multiple choice are tricky, so read the question more than once & pay close attention to what she is asking. As far has short answer... Dr. Helms can tell if you know the answer by what you write. She is very fair with respect to grading. She gets a thumbs up!

Dr. Helms is an amazing teacher. You can tell from her fun and witty lectures that she is truly passionate about biology. Her tests can be hard, but she makes every effort to help her students including extra credit opportunities, easy weekly discussion credit and open office hours. Study your notes, review her recorded lectures, read your book.

Dr. Helms is great at teaching you in a way that makes it all stick. Her late evening class lectures were stimulating. The materials and tools she will provide you are incredible. If you're willing to put in the work, you will do fine on her tough exams. Helms is highly attentive to emails, extremely organized and dedicated to helping you succeed.

She has a passion for the subject and when a test needs to be moved back she is well aware. Never tests you over material that there wasn't time to cover in class.

Dr Helms is a good professor and sets expectations clearly. Her lectures are clear and concise, although she does have bad migraines from time to time, so those days we left class early or didn't have them. She like using technology, so we did the you tube lecture. Overall, she really knows her stuff and her classes keep your mind engaged.

One of my favorite Professors ever. Cares about everyone of her students and will do what is required to make sure they get what they put in to the class. A word of warning, nothing is multiple choice, you'll either know the material or you won't. Would take her again for any class, no questions.

Professor Helms is definitely a wonderful teacher. I took her for Biology 1406 Lecture and she was very clear on what would be on the test and what wouldn't. She was absent a decent amount of times though, but thats because of personal issues and she definitely made up for it in easy take home tests. Would take again! Really cares for her students.

Made Micro really interesting. Tests are short answer and partial points are always given in your favor. Discussion boards are easy and are usually relevant to current events.

I took Biology 1406 with Dr. Helms during the Fall 2018 semester. Dr. Helms is an amazing professor who truly cares about her students. When I visited her during office hours about a concern I had with another class, she talked with me and encouraged me to talk with the other professor, who I was nervous to talk to. Highly recommend taking her!

She was disorganized, would miss a couple classes and would therefore have to change due dates. It was hard to keep a schedule. However, she would never hurt her student's grade because of her failings. She knows the subject inside out and she expects you to know the material really well. As long as you understand everything, you will do great.

Would definitely recommend Dr. H's Micro class. Super helpful and nice and worked hard to make it a great class.

I love Dr Helms no matter what. Iam a Fan. I love the way she explains things. Dr Helms is an inspirational. I absolutely love her. I love the way she teaches giving realistic examples!
