Really nice and makes class fun!
tests are hard. good teacher.
Material is not always fun, but she teaches it well. She's extrememly helpful and easy to talk to!
Amy totally rules! She is such a fun professor, but you still learn from her. Very organized and understanding. Don't pass up an opportunity to take a class with Dr. Amy. She is the BEST!!!!!!!!

Amy was very unclear in what she wanted from us, so it was difficult to do well in her class. doing my best was never good enough for her. did not enjoy the class, will not take another one with her again.
Great Professor, did a great job making class fun
Dr. Amy is one of the MOST helpful professors you will EVER meet.
Great teacher that has high expectations of her students. Makes class fun, she is energetic and always willing to answer questions or help out a student
Amy is the best teacher I have ever had! She explains the material in such realistic terms that everyone understands. She makes it hard to fail her class because there are study guides, the book, class notes, and she is more than helpful with questions.
Dr. Amy is the best professor I have ever had! I don't ever feel intimidated, and I can ask her a million and one questions. She explains everything so well. She is definately teacher material. Her projects are detailed and a bit hard but she is great!
Dr. Amy is the nicest college professor i have ever had. She gets to know and care about her students on a personal level. Her office door is always open and the Amy Challenge never fails if you need help. I'd give her Three thumbs up if I had them!!!!
shes is the best teacher on campus
Easy speech class, no, hell, she screwed me out of a B by 5 points on a stupid assignment, thinks she is the queen of speech since she has heard 'like 10,000, so yours better be really good to get an A'. And not hot.
I love her take her she is the best professor you will have!
I love Dr. Amy. She is an amazing teacher. She is always there to help you, whether with school or anything else. She does her best to make things easy to understand and relate it life. She is full of energy and cheer. HIGHLY recommended!
very helpful, made speeches easy
Dr. Amy is the shiznite
Very easy. Easy grader. Easy exams. Very nice and helpful. Highly recomend.
Dr. Amy is the best professor!! She gets to know you on an individual basis!! You have like 2 test the whole year, and only 4 speeches! She isnt a tough grader. The speeches were different and made you think creativly! I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Amy!!
Dr. Amy rocks hard core, I doubt that there is a better professor for the class. Take my advice... SIGN UP FOR HER CLASS!! oh and about the class, its easy and she will help with anything and everything. One last thing, she is an easy grader and doesnt care what you look like when you givespeeches
PAIN! I honestly had a difficult time with this class. It may have been because of the material. She did not connect all the different theories. I found this class painfully scattered. She is very helpful, but her paper grading is nuts unless you speak to her often.
She is a nice prof. Very helpful and very willing to help you out. (Dr. Amy Challenge) Try in the class and you will do well. Plus there is always Extra Credit.
i love her she is wonderful! she is so helpful and has a lot of easy extra credit that helps a lot with your grades and to prepare you for your tests
SHe had some complications this semester so that may be the reason for my ditest for the class. She was incosiderate in that she did not provide a sub. SHe also chose to cancel a test without consulting a class, then we had 9 chapters for the final--to which she did not show up but sub did.
I will excuse her lack of course material due to complications in her pregnancy. However, I cannot accept her acceptable standards for paper writing. I write perfect papers, I always get A's and B's on papers. She wouldn't know a good paper/presentation if it hit her on the head. The course was really boring, decided not to be a CST major after all
too much of work, but she is nice, and very helpful BUTTTT... when it comes to grading part she is not nice and helpful. But a B is reserved for you if you show up in class and do your work.
Not hard, just somthing you gotta get done to move on in college.
This class was not fun like most speech classes. Also I didnt like the way she taught it.
Dr. Amy is really nice, and cares a lot about her students. She is willing to answer questions, etc. OK grader on speeches (more difficult thru semester), but easy to pull a 'B.' PS: She takes attendance.
She is such a nice lady. She does an ok job of mixing lectures with in-class activities, which is helpful. Attendance is checked every day, so try to make sure you're there. The big project of the semester is pretty easy. The tests are a little harder than you'd expect, so mak sure you do the reading. She posts in-class notes online.
Dr.Amy is a great professor that really cares about her students! By far the easiest speech professor here. Show up to class and do the work- you shouldn't have a problem. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!
She's on ok professor...I had her last semester too...But this semester her facial expressions and the way she talks is really getting to me! It'd driving me nuts and totally distracts me from the lecture. I hate going to her classes now becuase she's so annoying!
Dr. Amy was awesome! i dont know what these people are talking about. There is NO textbook in 191, there are NO tests or quizzes. and she doesnt take attendence,4 easy speeches that you have 3 weeks to prepare for each. and lots of in class work time. SO helpful and VERY kind. TAKE HER IF YOU CAN
She is awesome!! Nicest professor I have ever met. She cares and is very understanding of anything you could be dealing with.
Excellent prof with a great smile and is very clear and makes her homework and speeches very clear on whats expected. Good class that i learned from, Yes actually learned from. Take her for class she is a 10/10
best speech prof ever! i love dr. amy. no textbooks, only 3 speeches the entire semester, she's not hesitant about cancelling classes at all, very easy grader. she's always willing to go out of her way to help anyone. if your stuck on your outline she'll practically write it for you...by the way you NEVER have to write your speech:)
She is absolutely amazing. By far one of my favorite professors at WSU.
Dr. Amy is so sweet! She is very clear in her expectations for your speeches (which there are only 4 of). She provides students with an outline to fill out that is essentially fill-in-the-blank and if you stick to this format, you're guaranteed a good grade on the speech. Lectures are tolerable, as the class is only an hour. Only one test!
nice professor, terrible grader. I would not reccomend taking her if you want an A. I worked my butt off and got thought i had an A, but ended up with a B! She doesnt get back to you when you ask her what your grade is. She also is very unclear about what she wants from you.
At first she seems really nice and helps out a lot with the speeches, but after midterms she doesn't do much at all. 4 speeches, one of them a group one that she gave no input on at all, she just sat on her laptop. Don't take her if you want an A.
Dr. Amy's a pretty nice prof. She grades harder each speech(4) or that is what i thought. You have to go to class or you won't know what is going on and will lose out on daily points. She cancelled class 2 or 3 times. It would've been a lot easier if she didn't narrow each topic down so much... my class was based on travel. needin a speech prof-avg
Not a fan, ruined my college career.
She is very nice. Dont get me wrong, she can be a hard grader, but she tries to help a lot! She is so sweet and very understanding. I wouldn't have taken speech without her!
She an somewhat hard grader and tried to keep things interesting. With a little work you can get an A. She is really down to earth and allows for a lot of in-class work time. I recommend!
At first I didn't like her because her requirements were so specific but it forced me to be creative and her class became one of my favorites. As long as you attend class and practice your speeches a few time you will ace it. Ask for help, she is always willing to share ideas. I highly recommend her.
She gives you outlines to follow for every speech, so all you really need to do to write your speech is fill in the blanks. She is really helpful, especially with people who are fearful of puplic speaking, and very friendly. you get a lot of in class time to work on your speeches. As long as you follow the guidelines you will get an A
Dr. Amy is very helpful and very understanding and reasonable. Take public speaking with her! She is a good one.
Don't be fooled by easy assignments and in class work! The tests will be hard! Study study study! Other than surprisingly hard exams Dr. Amy rocks. She's really calm and fun to work with and most classwork is incredibly easy.
Dr. Amy is great. She's very relaxed and fun. Her tests are kind of hard even though the material is pretty easy. She cancels class a lot too, which is nice. 1 group project/presentation, and she gives you class time to work on it. Definitely take her for this class!
Dr. Amy is a boring professor. She stands and lectures for 50 minutes. She lectures from powerpoints that have 5 slides total so TAKE NOTES whatever she says...write it down! Her exams are hard and her other classes dont require a paper so its all attendance and exams.
Dr. Amy made 191 so simple! You have three individual speeches and one group speech. She is very open to helping you with your speech and time does not make a big difference when you give your speech. She concentrates on the content rather than the time. She is 100% wonderful. Take her!
Dr. Amy is one of the nicest professors here at WSU. I've had her for a couple classes and I was consistently interested in the class. I took this as my second class with her BECAUSE she was teaching it. She really connects with students and tries to actively involve them while also being personable. Take her!
Her classes are fine and there's not too much work. However, it's hard to get a good grade on the class. Your grade comes from your speeches so if you mess one up it's gonna be hard to get an A. No possibilities for extra-credit.
I got an A in the class, but I feel some of my classmates got unfair grades on their speeches for adequate work. Speeches I worked 6+ hours on I still only got a B. I wish the class was more structured with more low key speeches instead of only 4 big ones because I feel the purpose of the class is to be a better speaker, and 4 doesn't really help.
Dr. Amy is a nice professor but she takes years to grade speeches. Make sure you do well on your outline because that is the majority or your grade besides actually presenting. She also won't respond to emails until a day later so email her way in advance.
Dr. Amy is fantastic. She's super caring and is very vigilant about updating her office hours, which is very nice. Class was fairly easy and had group participation and group reports, but definitely was useful.
She is an EXTREMELY tough grader. Don't let her kindness fool you. It overall was an okay class, she gives lots of class time to work on speeches, and gives you very specific instructions for each speech.
Dr. Hermodson is a solid choice for public speech. She is a pretty easy grader for speeches and assignments. I usually wrote my outlines a couple of days prior and practiced them twice and got an A on them. She also gives assignments so you can catch up if you fall behind because of a speech. The classes are pretty small and only 4 speeches!
easy grader for assignments, but is pretty tough on you for the speeches. I believe only 3 people get As on their speeches per speech. 4 speeches, 3 alone and 1 group. Has 10 assignments to do, but no book or exams
She is a harsh grader and there are only a few assignments, along with 2 exams and a huge group project. Only thing I didn't like was our presentation for our group projects had to be 45+ minutes. She is really understanding though and for an 8 am class is very cheerful and happy.
Shes a lovely woman who has a good heart. The only problem is that she IS THE HARDEST GRADER EVER. If you think you are good at public speaking... think again. Seems to be a little too complicated for an intro class/ required gen ed. Nice woman though, dont get me wrong.
She fills every single class with busy work and pointless assignments that don't contribute to your learning at all. On top of that, her grading is extremely harsh and she is not very understanding. She will nit-pick everything a part and for no seemingly good reason. I would not recommend this class or professor if you don't need to take it.
Amy is a very very harsh grader. I don't understand her. For a professor, you would think they would understand that not everything is going to be perfect on an assignment, especially if it was group work. It makes me think about, how was she like when she was a student herself. She wants everything to be perfect, which is impossible.
I HIGHLY recommend taking Dr. Amy for intro to communication studies. Class is very helpful and she helps builds up to the final project. I really enjoyed taking this course with her.
Amy Hermodson is a very personable and respectable professor. Not only is she extremely good about providing her students with great feedback, but also with making sure everyone in her classes understands the material being taught. One note I will mention, she is a bit of a tough grader, so take advantage of receiving that great feedback from her.
Dr Amy is incredibly kind and caring. The homework she assigns mostly feels like busywork, but it does make up a large chunk of your grade, so you have to suck it up and do it. She prepares you very well for the final project and makes it easy enough that it doesn't even feel like a project. Very nice professor, easy A if you put a little effort in
Professor Hermodson was not helpful at all. She doesnt answer emails in a timely manner, she is not helpful, she is an unfair grader. Her intro to communication class made me change my minor.
Dr. Amy was the best professor I have had. She is so understanding. She is there to help everyday, and she responds to emails quickly. I highly recommend Dr. Amy. Obviously due dates matter, but if you are behind she is willing to work with you so that you can still be graded for your best work! Literally the best.
I feel like somebody like her should not be teaching an online class when she is not very good with technology or online communication. I felt like her lack of technology skills held me back in an otherwise relatively easy class. She is very kind, but she is also a picky grader and I felt entirely frustrated with her class
I loved Dr. Amy and would highly recommend her class. Although some of her homework assignments seemed to be busy work, she wants her students to succeed. Very understanding and answers her emails in about a day. Her grading can be a little tough, but you can re do some parts to get a better score. 4 speeches and no final. Definitely recommend!!
A very sweet professor. Course had a lot of case study material and final project was incredibly tedious and difficult to do correctly. She responds quickly and is very forgiving with late work as long as you explain your situation. Did not like the class but adored Professor Amy.
Dr. Amy is very kind and is very clear on what she wants for assignments and such. There is quite a lot of busy work for this class, and it all lead up to a two-minute final presentation, but the class itself wasn't too difficult and Dr. Amy is very willing to help you succeed. She speaks to us like we're two years old, though.
She has impossible expectations and no clear grading criteria. Honestly looking at the reviews on here, it looks like some were written by the same person. Her rating seems far too high.
Dr. Amy really cares and was always there when I needed a little extra help on my assignment. I can not recommend this teacher enough! She is one of the legit ones.
Dr. Amy is very friendly & seems to care about her students a lot. I've learned nothing in this class. Every week comes with busy work that has no purpose. She uses reading & videos that are legit from the 90s. I took this class because it was 100% online & async., however every few weeks we are required to meet via Zoom. Boring and repetitive.
Dr. Amy is one of the best professor I have ever had. Very understanding and is there to help if needed. Answers emails quickly and is very straight forward with assignments. They can be a little lengthy and repetitive, but would still recommend her. Wants you to succeed and works with you individually if you need more help. So sweet of a professor
Great class for being online. I am not a big online person let alone when it comes to giving speeches online but Dr. Hermodson is great at helping if you send emails. She is quick at responding and helping students. In this class there is quite a bit of busy work but as long as you get the assignments done, you will get a good grade.
I would not take this class online, the way she went through assignments was hard and confusing I had to with-drawl from her class so It wouldn't affect my GPA. She's caring, but the way she teaches can be difficult for most.. I would just recommend taking your speech class online.
Dr. Amy is a very kind and caring person. Overall, a real joy to work with and she really wants you to succeed, but the sheer amount of assignments was a little overwhelming. I also found the mandatory biweekly attendance to be a little weird since it was an asynch online class.
Amy is really sweet but online speech classes just are not worth it. Too much busy work and she grades very harshly. 4 speeches but each week is building different parts of the speech. I feel like I learned a lot but would recommend just taking speech in person.
This class is a lot of busy work and pretty confusing at some points. A lot of the information is pretty self explanatory but the way questions are worded can be confusing. Lots of self reflection and building lessons each week.
Dr. Amy is very sweet and willing to help. I simply don't recommend taking her class online. So much busy work and once you fall behind, it piles up quickly. The assignments were confusing at times and you will do A LOT of reading and writing. There were times I felt helpless. It is so much more difficult online and I learned that the hard way.
Dr. Amy has pretty specific guidelines but is very accessible outside of class and willing to help you meet the goals and get a good grade. As long as you meet the guidelines, you'll get a good grade. Weekly assignments aren't hard.
Dr. Amy is caring and wants you to succeed in the class. I recommend taking this course in person rather than online. You can fall behind fast if you're not careful. The content of the course can be intimidating at first, but if you watch the videos and read the readings, you will do well! Don't be afraid to reach out to her. She is happy to help!
Dr. Amy wants you to do well in her courses and she will prove that every step of the way. She's extremely accessible outside of class. Course assignments in this class were a little mundane at times, but honestly it wasn't hard to get good grades on them if you tried. I would definitely recommend her if you need more generals completed :)
I took online speech and I am super glad I took it with Dr.Amy. Her speechs seem intimidating at first but she walks you through them with assignments and is a super easy grader. She does not respond to emails super quickly and she has weird due dates on things but she doesnt have a late work policy. I didnt memorize any of my 4 speeches.
Dr. Amy's class was not very hard but I would not recommend it to anyone. She request the things you want reviewed to be sent to her 48-72 hours before the due date. This is incredibly hard when she only gives 24-48 hours to do the assignment. You also cant do an assignment due Wed. until she grades the assignment from Mon. Lots of busy work
She's the worst professor I've ever had, so particular on grading. She makes life so difficult when she has 4-5 big assignments a week, and they have to be perfect or else you cannot continue to the next assignment. Its a public speaking class not an English class.
..........
Professor Hermodson is a great, kind person overall. She gives good feedback when you ask for help, and proves understanding when something comes up. Unfortunately, her grading criteria are incredibly vague, and, in order to get credit for an assignment, you must get credit for the previous assignment. This makes it easy to snowball and get behind.
You do four total presentations, very easy class as long as you pay attention and listen to lectures. You don't NEED to go to class, but it is apart of your grade. It is easier to understand the assignment when you go to class. She is very easy to reach outside of class. NO FINAL!
Dr. Hermodson is okay, there was a lot of busy work and unnecessary assignments. You have like 2 days to complete each assignment but you cant move to the next assignment until you get 100% on it, which made me fall behind. She's also terrible at responding to emails and is not that helpful. The workload gets a lot easier towards the end.
I took this course online and it was very manageable. We meet on zoom like 4 times during the semester. She is an easy grader and wants you to succeed. I recommend taking her.
With it being an online class it is obviously structured differently than an in-person class. She has some homework that can feel kind of like busy work but you get used to it and the class can feel repetitive. I have no strong emotions about this class or her as a professor.
This class was overall pretty easy, she makes it hard to fail. However, her D2L is kind of a mess, and she writes so many instructions that they become confusing and unclear. DO NOT get behind. You can't do the next assignment until the previous is graded and there is not a lot of time between deadlines. Also you have to attend 4 Zoom calls.
She's very organized, she emails you back right away, and she is very clear with her expectations, but taking her online public speaking is definitely not for everyone. She requires a lot of research, interviews, and overall just a lot of preparation for the 3 video speeches. She is great but make sure you have time to often prioritize this class.
Dr. Amy was the best. She wants you to succeed and will literally help you with anything, you just need to ask for help. Her rubrics are very clear, and she gives you examples for every assignment. Just make sure you look at the sample assignments and try to closely follow them to get a good grade. She wants you to get an A and was the best.
She was a good professor and made everything very clear.. but oh my the busy work was just unnecessary. So many pointless assignments that just took up time and didn't teach me anything. She's super nice tho and helpful.
