Always finds the time to help you. Explains all work and repeats it, if necessary. Helps prepare class for exams and quizs, does worksheets with the class, helps with homework. Meets you in the Math resource center, too. Tries to meet all student's needs. Not at all like other math professors!

She was very helpful in explaining things and you can tell she is really excited about math.
She is a wonderful lady, she has an open door policy! her tests are a bit hard, but if you continue to see her personally you can keep up!
Class was coordinated-it's hard when another prof writes the exam. She went out of her way to make sure we knew everything though that was on the exam.Is so awesome and enthusiastic. I'd take her for every class. She'd do anything for you. And she loves to teach - makes it enjoyable. Take Amy!
Amy just raises the bar in the math department. She goes out of her way to help her students. She even meets with them on her personal time over the weekends to make sure her students are understanding the material. Also shows students why we use certain formulas rather than making us just accept them.
Amy is a nice lady. As far as a professor goes she's tough. She makes you work hard for your grade and she expects everyone to be a math major moving on to the calc... But if you need this class take it with her, the better of the math profs we offer. Advice: take math at Delta for a transfer grade.
Amy is one of the most dedicated professors I have ever had. She teaches very well, and has a passion about wanting her students to succeed. The class is very hard but by no means impossible. I did B-C work but had the satisfaction of knowing I've learned algebra. She is the best in the dept.
Class is pretty hard and she moves kind of fast but is always willing to help outside of class. Gives info you need to know if going on to calc but most of us were Education majors. Doesn't give whole class period for exams, she lectures 1/2 hr 1st. She's nice but tough at the same time. No room for slacking off in this class!
Not the worst math professor. If you can, take Math somewhere else, Delta. Positives: she lets you re-do some work, sometimes she gives extra credit. Negatives: expects too much out of you, moves fast, is not that friendly, expects you to know everything from MTH 082, if you even took that. Teaches to certain people, her favorites.
Interesting class. A lot of information to learn in one semester especially spring/summer. Amy is a great teacher. She does teach really quickly. Take lots of notes and DON'T SLEEP!!! Gives comprehensive tests so make sure you don't forget the information that you have been taught. Definately make sure you remember your algebra!Overall, good class
This prof hasnt had geometry since grade 9 and yet the University allows her to teach this course-She didnt have to take it for her degree and learns the material along with the students-Lots of HW-Each test has 2 parts-1.A take home-3+ hours to finish over things you never did in class-2.In class test-Plays favorites-If your not one GET OUT NOW!!!
she is a good teacher. she makes the material eaasy to understand. tests and quizes are like problems from the book and lectures. lets you use a packet to help with the theorems. gives extra credit. will come in on her own time to help you out.
Easy A. I never do any homework except the take home quizzes which she collects. She explains everything down to the most elementary level details. I was bored out of my mind and skipping class was never an issue. Just how I got through it! Lets you make up points on quizzes, gives extra credit. She trys to hard to be 'cool' and can be annoying.
Amy is very nice, and knows how to teach a review of basic skills well. We have 5-point quizes almost daily, but she offers extra credit. I also like her because she expects a lot out of her students, but also does her part to help us master the material. She moves fast with lessons, but the pace seems right for a Basic Skills class. Take her!
Amy is a good teacher. The class is a bit long, but she gives us a break. The material is easy to understand when she explains it. If you don't like math, you'll have to take the time to study, but she'll help you if you are having trouble.I recommend her.
If you don't like the words/phrases; rigorous,is this easy,is this fun, see me after class... don't take her. She uses them in extreme excess. She rarely answers questions spouting, "there isn't enough time." But then she wastes time on misc. meaningless tangents. She assumes the prereq for the class is every other math class.
Take her as a teach, she explains things well, make sure you never miss class, gives take home quizes a lot so she knows that you know the info. plans review sessions on ususally sunday nights for those that need extra help. she is always willing to help students. and she tries her best to use hands on activities to help the students learnTAKE HER
Very nice teacher, explains well. Helps when needed, lots of room for extra credit.
She is very helpful and gives TONS of extra credit opportunities.
This class is probably one of the easier math classes to understand at SVSU. she is an excellent professor and she is one of the best math professrs at SVSU
i thought i would do good in this class because i did so well in 161 but she gives you no breaks and most the e.c goes to the smartest people, no calculator, no take homes, barely any points for h.w. tests are hard too and no curve. avoid if possible. she does seem like a nice person but she thinks that svsu is harvard or something.
Amy is a very nice professor and she does her job well. She has very high expectations but they are clear. Gives extra credit for her errors on board (pay close attention) and otherwise if needed. Keep up on homework at least weekly. I'd recommend getting a few people together from class to study. I am taking her again for 261. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
A nice teacher with lots and lots of extra credits. provides with pretty clear hints. Take her!
lets just say i was on Deans list previous to taking this ****s class, on top of being over diffucult and reading out of the book she tends to cater to the best ppl in class.she is also so obsessed catching people cheating she will not ever let you use a calc. or note card, she made me feel like she thought i was cheating which made me feel bad.
She is very hard we missed a class due to weather &the rest of the year she obsessed over how we were behind &didnt give us a chance to learn the material &let the new concepts sink in I did all of the reccomended hw &did not miss class &studied & only got a C+ She is hard does give EC which is easy to get she can be understanding but confusing
Wonderful professor! Probably one of the best in the math department. She doesn't expect anything excessive from students- just what would be expected of a college student. Class was kind of fast-paced, but she did her best to teach what was needed with the time she had. Allows for a lot of extra credit and make-up on most tests. Highly recommend!
The class was a breeze. The quizzes were straight forward and basically if you did your hw you will be fine. She does an awsome job of explaining and she is an overall great prof. i would take her again if i could. She also gives out tons of extra credit and she gives you 20 points towards her quizzes. Really easy class!
Makes the class very easy. She goes the pace of the class. Offers plenty of extra credit points. Short quiz everyday so you have to go to class but it isnt something you have to study for. Do the homework and you get all the points on the tests.
She is a great professor. Very understanding and gives lots of opportunities to get your grade up. Her tests are not hard, but you should review worksheets and previous quizzes. Overall I felt the class was easy. I would recommend it.
Great teacher. She is very concerned that everyone understands the material. She gives lots of extra credit. The tests are not too hard and she isn't into trick questions like some of the math teachers here. She is very accesible and helpful and I highly recommend her.
Amy is extremely helpful if your'e willing to work for it. Her tests can be difficult but just go to her office hours if there is something you don't understand and she will make sure you are getting it. Somewhat tough teacher but very fair and helpful.
Thought was a very horrible teacher!! Went thru the material way too fast and didn't really ask to see if we knew what we were doing..Do not take her!
Will go by overall class performance and very willing to help out. Very great person to take for Math
avoid her if possible
She may be good for MTH 120, but you do not want this teacher for Calc 2! Her tests are ridiculously hard and she will expect you to know EVERYTHING from your prerequisite classes. Many scholarships were lost because as a result of people failing this woman's class. Do yourself (and your social life) a favor and do not bother trying to learn from h
she is the best teacher i have ever had. very helpful and I would highly recomend her
she is a wacko. I have never had a problem until I took a class with her. she is obsessed with catching people cheating even if they arent,,, can you say psycho!! if you dont believe me, youll find out yourself
HORRIBLE!! She has countless excuses for why tests, and assignments aren't graded yet. Frustrating, as you don't know your grade at all during the whole semester! Often doesn't answer your in-class questions due to "lack of time". I wouldn't recommend her unless you are good at teaching yourself.
She is the worst Math prof EVER! She doesn't go through ?'s that you don't understand bcuz of her lack of time for them. She runs out of time cuz she writes EVERYTHING on the board and you still don't understand! I haven't had a math class in over 8yrs and didn't understand somethings, yet she still told me that i should know them by now! HORRIBLE
If you are late for deadlines, she'll excuse you if you've actually have done the work. Any questions you have will be explained thoroughly. Only the final exam is selectively cumulative. Medium difficulty class because it requires a lot of discipline to do the work. (Self-study class in nature)
I really enjoyed taking her class and is by far one of the best math teachers I've had at SVSU. Offered some extra credit. Weekly quizes based of homework. tests were hard but fair. overall, the class is difficult but stay on top of your work and you'll be fine.
She should only teach lower math class instead of how to teach math. I have no doubt that she knows what she is doing, but her test don't resemble the hw or notes. She uses huge numbers without calc.I know she wants all the students to pass but if you take her expect to be confused and at the math resource center a lot. She will collect hw sometime
If you're taking 082 with the company program.. you have to work your ass off because there's a ton of stuff to learn and you have to teach yourself everything. Amy's cool though-she extends deadlines on hw if you try and lets you retate exams if you fail
I enjoyed taking this class with Professor Hlavacek. Math is not my strongest subject, and I am passing her class. The work is all done on the computer. There is no lectures, which is really nice, because class goes by fast. She will extend deadlines, if you are working hard. If Math is not your subject, I would recommend taking this class.
HORRIBLE professor! She made class way harder than it needed to be. She also never returns homework on time (many excuses) and in some cases will return homework AFTER the exam. The class was hard, but she made it more complicated and was not effective at teaching the material. She also talks down to students who struggle in class.AVOID at all costs!
She is a wonderful teacher! She gives extra credit if you catch any of her mistakes anywhere at anytime. She also runs the math resource center and will answer questions there. She does not give review sheets but if you do the review at the end of the chapter and all of the homework you will be fine.
Amy is a really great professor! It is pretty challenging, but she is always willing to help and she offers A TON of extra credit. I would really suggest taking her!
Amy is a great math professor. This is a very difficult class and she does her best to get through the material. She tends to talk fast. Very willing to help outside of the classroom. Lots of extra credit and partial credit awarded. I'd recommend her.
Very vague on subject matter. When asked for a re-explanation, she would just say the same things and say to go to tutoring.
her tests are unbelievably hard, she makes custom problems just to challenge/rape you. assigns hw that usually covers 20+ problems a class and quizes every class period. she is helpfull but at the same time not. She is finally understanding with my class that she needs a test review and its in the form of ec. If your not a good test taker stay out.
I loved Amy. Her class is difficult as well as her tests, but she is very willing to help. She is one of the tutors in the center so she is easily accessible when she is not in meetings. She moves quickly so I would recommend doing the practice problems.
very helpful and understanding of the subject matter. also willing to help you bring up your grade when you are in trouble. she talked me through my exams helped calm me down I have very bad test anxiety.
very helpful has a clear understanding of the subject matter.
She knows her stuff but tends to write pointless things on the board. She proves almost everything but you don't need to know how to prove them. She is a little-scattered brained but if you do the work, it should be a decent grade. Gives out a lot of extra credit! Take advantage of it because her tests are hard!!
Amy is my favorite math teacher so far. She is very willing to help you in her office hours and she does not make you feel dumb if you ask questions. She makes sure everyone understands something before she moves on to the next subject. She does everything correctly on the board as she encourages you to catch mistakes she makes.
I'd never recommend anyone to take statistics with Amy. she is an awful professor! She is a complete scatterbrain, unorganized and extremely hard to understand. She talks too fast and tries to prove everything which is completely unnecessary and makes everything so much more confusing! Never has anything graded on time! overall terrible experience!
Overall an extremely stressful class. Amy never had anything graded on time and she always had an excuse on why. Her test are impossible at one point the highest grade was a C for a test. Online homework can take hours to do. The only thing that saved me from failing was the extra credit. She is a nice lady but the class was terrible.
The worst math teacher I've ever had. Horrible at explaining things, takes way to long to go through problems so we don't even get through what we're supposed to. Uses excuses for anything whenever she can for why she didn't get something done, tests are bad, grading takes longer than it should. Do anything you can to not take her, she's terrible.
Unorganized and always talks about how behind the class is, but wastes 45 minutes on easy proofs. Assigns 12 problems for homework and only grades 5, be ready to get a 10 or below on every homework assignment. Would not take her again.
She rushes material and writes wicked fast. Going to ask for help is a huge burden. Everytime you go and ask her a question on the homework, she gives you a hint and tells you to go figure it out (she wants you out of her office). I never had a math professor grade pickier, she marks you down for everything. If she is your prof, I wish you luck.
Professor Hlavacek was an outstanding math professor. She made sure that everyone understood the problem before she moved on. Her tests were difficult, but if you did the suggested problem sets, you could easily receive an A as her tests represented the homework problems identically. The course is a challenge, but she always was willing to help.
I liked Amy, and she was really nice. I felt sometimes that she spent too much time lecturing on material we didn't need to know, and wasted time that she is constantly saying we don't have. She gives a ton of extra credit and drops a lot of things, so it is honestly hard to fail her class which is great for students that do not do good in math.
For tests, if you have the right answer, but don't show the work she wants, she marks it wrong.
Amazing. Love her. She knows what and how to explain, requires you to work, but it's to be expected at this level. Take her, rhs lecture is very good
Amy is a great professor. She helped me learn things that I never understood in high school. The class is relatively easy as long as you do your homework.
She is a very nice woman but unfortunately She does not know how to teach.
She moves at a fast pace that nobody can really follow and even when we do ask her to slow down, she does for like a minute then she picks up her pace. The homework she assigns is on WebWork, and its SUPER case sensitive and there is no hints or help on it. Her notes are NOT clear and she jumps around from section to section. Stay away from her!!!
Honestly the worst experience I've ever had with a Math professor, she goes so fast and doesn't help you. She says if you need help go get a tutor instead of her actually helping you.
She is like the Flash at explaining anything. If you do not comprehend fast talkers, DO NOT take this class with her, or any other course with her. Her notes are sloppy. She expects you learn a topic after 1 or 2 examples. Again, if you will not like her if you like slow talkers.
I had this class as hybrid due to COVID. She spends forever on proofs you don't need and not on the actual problems you'll be doing. When she does do examples, only half of them will line up with the assigned homework. She is really nice at least and gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. She will definitely help you if you just ask.
I loved the way she taught, yes she does go fast but she always answers students questions and goes over something again if you dont understand. In my class we had groups and i had terrible group mates but thats not her fault besides the group work i loved the class
She's an amazing prof! She is more than willing to help if you show up and participate. She goes out of her way for the students who participate and gets work done. She constantly extends homework and quiz deadlines to make sure everyone can finish. Again, she loves when people participate and can give extra credit for doing so. 10/10 professor!
She is constantly complaining were behind on time, but then takes 30 minutes to show us proofs we will never use. I had her for pre-calc and calc-1, & both semesters she had to skip sections. What she does go through she goes way too fast, & if you ask her for help she gives you a vague hint & tells you to go to a tutor. Avoid her class, its a pain
Amy is a tough professor and makes you work for your grade, but she is very kind and more than willing to help you in and out of class. She offers a lot of extra credit and makes it entirely possible to pass the class. Calc is a tough class, but she makes it manageable with class worksheets and extra credit. I would definitely take her again!
We covered a lot of material in this course, which is to be expected for a 300 level class.Amy designed this class so you can pass even if you get a 50% on all the exams as long as you do well on the homework, which I really appreciated since the exams were rough. She is a somewhat easy grader on assignments, but very tough on exams so be prepared.
The professor was pretty bad, she would just explain things very quickly with no clear reason. She would claim she didn't have time to do examples for everything so you would have to learn most of it on your own, does not really teach and gives random quizzes.
Amy offers a lot of extra credit for a tough class. Lots of Webwork assignments but becomes quite nice when studying for exams. You will have to study but will not fail if you at least try on homework and exams
Dr. Hlavacek is nice and gives lots of extra credit. Lots of homework that you need to do well on, total its worth 1 exam. Her exams are insanely hard and she is brutal when grading them. She has a rubric for partial credit so you need to know what you're doing or you're screwed. Use the tutor center for this class.
Amy is very caring and willing to work with students! She went the extra mile for people, even staying late after class to help any students who needed help. There isn't an attendance grade, but I highly recommend attending lectures.
We received virtually no feedback from the professor. There were assignments from the first month of the semester that were not graded until the week after final exams. I was lucky enough to be able to get an A despite this, but be prepared for empty promises on when things will be back. Stressful is an understatement with this class.
Statistics is difficult, but she made it so easy to understand and went through any questions. She gave extra credit for just participating in class or going to the help center (up to ten points per exam). She gave all the equations to us on each exam so we didn't have to memorize them. Amazing professor!
Such an awful professor. No structure to her class. Notes are sloppy and all over the place. Written as she is teaching. She mumbles and goes off in tangents that don't make sense. When answering a question, she doesn't answer the question ask. Definitely avoid this teacher.
Be prepared to not have any assignments graded up until the last minute. Would recommend taking a different professor for stats. Notes are not consistent with the homework. Expects you to learn a topic after only giving 1 or 2 examples.
She does write her notes during class, but as long as you pay attention, you'll be fine. She also records and posts her lectures. She tries to help and answer questions in class and is available outside of class. EC for participation. My biggest criticism would be the level of difficulty of the homework compared to the classwork. I liked the class.
just go to class and this will be the easiest class you've ever been in.
Amy is NOT a very good professor. I took her stats class and I practically ended up teaching the class by the end of the semester. Don't get me wrong, she's a very nice person, just a bad teacher.
This class was rough, 19 out of 26 people failed both test, although we were allowed to retake them. If you struggle with math I recommend a different professor, however if you cant do that you will be fine, but work as hard as you can, and do everything you can including make private tutoring appointments.
She should NOT be teaching this class. She has no idea what she is doing. Tests every week, with an accumulative final. No calculators with absurd numbers. She doesn't grade anything, we're one day from the final (which is 15% of our grade) and she has not put grades in since October-so no one knows how they are doing in the class.
Amy is a sweet person and seems to understand when you are struggling. However, she seems to think that this class is the only class you have in college and sometimes asks you to stay later after the almost 2 HOUR lecture. Pretty much told us that everything we have to study is not good enough, and most likely, everyone will fail the final.
Professor Hlavacek was awesome. I had her for Calc 2 and I passed with a solid A. She assigns plenty of homework so exams don't hurt as bad if you bomb them. But because she offers so much extra credit if you pay attention and show her you gaf you will do very well.
I took this class knowing a lot of the material we had learned making this easy for me. As someone who may struggle with the content I could see where Hlavacek could be harder to understand. She went over one of every kind of problem and assumed you knew how to do it. She did let you retake tests if you got less than 70% making it hard to fail
