LOTS of extra credit options. Stories to keep you awake...or try..
TERRIBLE
She is terrible and gives no help when needed. She wants everything done in a VERY specific way and gets irritated if you do not understand 'her way'
She's give lots' of extra credit options, lot's of activities and labs....her class is mostly lecture...not a bad teacher
She gives tons of stuff to do! mostly "busywork". I wouldn't necessarily recommend her.
she gives a ton of work, most of it is due right before finals at the end of the semester. can be somewhat of a pain to deal with, everything has to be a certain way. would not reccomend her to anyone.
Bottom line, if you like vague lectures and very specific exams that are impossible to pass, this is the class for you...if you make the mistake of taking this class, have fun.
I had her for the summer semester, and I thought she was great. She omits the busy work if you take this class in the summer...and she was interesting enough for me, and her tests were extremely easy. Plus, we went on walks and played frisbee and stuff. It was a lot of fun.
This teacher is aweful, she doesnt help you wth anything, lectures at great boring length, and basically makes you want to leave after 10 mins. roll isnt taken, and everything is done on WebCT. I wish her the worst.
VERY SWEET!!! I loved her...she was very helpful as well.
Not helpful, gives half the info for instructions, everything on webct. however she does lecture the full hour and a half but its beneficial every bit of it and she throughs in funny stories about here home life or events in her life. her tests arent hard if you study and as long as you pay attention you will pass. other than that it is interesting
i like health but not her class it just sucked-should be an easy a; shes not. HARD specific tests over material that was inbetween the lines, never knew what to study, everything on webct the only thing good was the walks and labs... once you finally figured out how to DO the labs. very confusing BEWARE
Her tests were random and i didn't learn anything. Very bad experience.
Way too much work for this class, but I got an A. Nice teacher, but awfully boring class.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Her tests are unrelated to lecture. She isn't interested in teaching anything of value. Tests are memorization of a lot of useless statistics. The important things aren't covered, therefore it is hard to study. Her lecture is not structured and often gives wrong information. She is nice, but bad instructor.
Not enough physical activity! You would think in a Health and Sport Science class you would go outside and be activity....but no, not it Ms. Howton's class. Very boring lectures and makes you feel as if you are in high school once again.
Not an easy class. I can't believe I actually got a B in a fitness class. She does not prepare you for exams well at all. This is funny because she lectures almost the whole period. The exams are hard, if you want to do well on her exams read the book! Do not recommend her at all! Lots of different projects (busy work really!)
Lackluster lectures, pointless projects, and tacky tests. If you love power point, watered down physical activity and memorizing the many ways meat is bad for you then sign up.
She gives lectures almost daily and they are boring. She has all her notes posted online which come straight from the powerpoints. Labs are fairly simple to complete and if you study the tests arn't that hard. I got an A with minimal effort.
Oh my Lord....she is the worst thing that happened to me last semester, she can't explain anything, she had wrong information and she BORED ME TO DEATH...for real don't take her if you can avoid it
Ridiculous teacher...not clear what so ever on anything due or whats on the test...i went to class every day and never knew what was going on. No need to go to class because her classes are pointless
Her tests are from the book her lectures are useless and mind numbing she doesn't explain anything. DO NOT TAKE HER! she worlds her tests to trick you and make things unclear.
She is absolutely the worst teacher ive had at kennesaw, she does nothing to try to help the students and plays heavy favorites. She is a terrible teacher. If she is the last teacher available wait for next semester to take the class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!! HER CLASS IS SO HARD SHE DOES NOT EXPLAIN ANYTHING! I FEEL SORRY FOR YOU IF YOU GET HER!
Worst health education I have had yet. She is overweight and defiantly not a pinnacle of health. Test are very confusing and there are no study guides. Pop quizzes once in a while. Not a hard class but i would not recommend it if you are considering a health field.
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! Shes completely awful, every piece of information she says is either off topic or is so wrong its halarious, shes wrong on 90% of information in her lectures and when you question her she gives some BS reasoning,+ the tests are rediculous. if you have her do yourself a favor and drop her!
I took intro ballet. she's a nice woman, despite what you all say. but I was just too nervewracked by her expectations. I couldn't do a mid-air split like the other girls. i dropped.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is unclear and she doesn't give study guides or notes.
I took her and she was very nice. That was of course many years ago. I did not find her boring at all
i already rated her i just wanted to say her tests come from a cd and they do not make sense if you are not really into health stuff and know a alot already i would not recommend. She says things that do not match up with known research. I do not know where she gets her research but things get confusing and annoying.
Not good. Do not take her if you can help it. No study guides. Tests are not clear and are very hard to pass. She acts like she is better than everyone, and talks down to you. Very rude and unclear. The only thing good about her class is you have opportunities to earn extra credit- can help you earn an A easily.
OMG I HATED this class! She is nice, but teaching style is boring. She rarely has a review before tests. You do not know what material out of the chapters covered will be on the test so you have to know it all. But as long as you do your work (which is quite a bit) the way she wants you to, and go to class, it should be an easy pass. Avoid her!
DO NOT TAKE HER! DO NOT! I can not stress it enough. health is supposed to be an easier class and she has made this class so HARD, i have had more work in her class than any other classes i have taken. she will count off points even if you do not put her name or class name on your assignments. she is REDICULOUS and the biggest hipocrite ever.
she is very nice, but tests are VERY hard. off subject.for two class periods, we watched wall-e. yes, an animated disney movie in a college class. do not take!
Amy Howton is a nice person but pretty much fails in everything else. She doesn't offer study guides and her actual lessons are pointless and often times seem like 'a stretch of the imagination'. The exams are tricky but passable. Just make sure to complete all the assignments under the EXACT guidelines posted on Webct!
Takes her mandatory lower division class WAY too serious. Tries to be a nice lady, but doesnt make an extra effort to help her students get through the class. Found myself fighting to make a B at the end of the semester. Not an easy teacher, but not impossible either.
I thought she was a great teacher, I learned a great deal in her class. Like everyone else says, her tests are hard, covering a very large amount of information and she refuses to give study guides. I seemed to get along with her just fine though. If you want a challenge, take her. I got an A in the class and failed the last two tests. lol
Makes this class harder than it should be. Gives questions on the exam that arent even realted to the studyguide, so its good to read all of the chaptetrs that are assigned. She just had a attitude on her, sort of stuck up. I just didnt like her as a teacher, but I didnt like her as a person.
overall a decent teacher. Takes her class way to seriously though. Tests are a little harder than necessary but if you try you will do good. Seems like she could be a nice person, not too sure though. I wouldn't say easy A, but definitely easy B, if you go to the class and participate.
Takes her class way too seriously. Terrible professor: so boring and useless lectures. Do not take unless you need to.
She is the worst professor i have had in college so far. The lectures are boring and its hard to predict what will be on the tests. She takes points off labs for stupid things like the pages not being stapled in the right order. Seriously, don't take this class unless you have no other options.
I would not say she's a terrible person for I would not know that. I can say however that she is not a good teacher. She takes her class entirely too seriously, makes the exams harder than they need to be and thoroughly grades assignments for a class almost no one could care about.
She is the head of the department and makes this easy class extremely hard. I would not recommend her.
I took her class last summer. She was nice, but boring and there was a LOT of work. I heard and saw others taking HPS 1000 playing for half the class period, we did not do that at all!! Other than the fact she made this class a lot of work, I would say she was OK. She is very knowledgeable, and I did learn more than I expected. Got an A.
She was a very nice professor but had some tactics that made it hard to achieve in her class. Like many said, her tests are hard. The reason why is because many times her review, which she says "If you know these things you will be fine," don't match the material on the test.
Professor Howton was tough but fair. Lot of work but if you do the work and pay attention you will make out okay in her class. This was probably the toughest class I've taken so far.
I took a dancing class with her. Some days she was in a really bad mood and got mad at us for not rememering the dance moves, but we went through so much so fast that we couldn't keep up. There was too much to learn and not enough time and she was really picky with posture and structure, when I couldn't even remember the steps! I wouldn't take her.
She is very passionate out the course material and has very high energy. Some of the material can be very dry but she does well with keeping the class interested and awake. Her tests are hard. There is alot of physical work that needs to be done outside of class. Then you need to read the etext book and be ready for class.
This teacher knows the subject material very well...however she would rather tell pointless stories about her own life rather than talking about the actual material. Attending class is basically pointless and might even confuse you more. Your best off just reading the book and staying home.
She is a complainer - complains about literally everything! Make sure to go to class if you want to do good. The study guides have nothing to do with the tests. Only the stuff in her notes and lectures are on the tests. Make sure to do all assignments if you want to make a B or higher!
Took along with Rendini. Howton was very straightforward and to the point. Sometimes she made you feel dumb for asking questions. Everything in this class was totally unclear, when things were due, and what had to be done for them. 4 tests, she counts 3. The test material is stuff that they don't go over, really difficult tests. Activity days.
I enjoyed the class over all. But she wasn?t always clear about what could be turned in online and what had to be submitted in class
This class was such a waste of time. HPS should be straightforward and along the same lines as normal health classes, but not with her (in combination with Rendini. there was no clarity on due dates, expectations, and the tests did not line up with class material. Notes not posted. I do not recommend her or Rendini. Especially Rendini.
Nutrition and Fitness was a great class for me over summer, loss 10 pounds wearing the pedometer. Professor spends a bit too much time talking about herself, she goes on and on about her diet, her husband, her cooking style blah, blah, blah.... I will say for her to be 57 she looks great, she's my inspiration to be more fit.
She's alright. The class was easy mainly because I knew all the stuff. But her lectures were incredibly boring.
Professor Howton is a really hard professor. You REALLY have to pay attention, take notes, read and study. Even then, you might not do so great. DO NOT take if you can avoid it.
Prof. Howton works with you and really wants you to do the work-even if you turn stuff in late, it's only 5 points off, because she wants you to do it and do well! Great lecture, attendance isn't a chore, and awesome lady.
This professor is unclear! She never tells you flat out what she wants so getting good grades is almost impossible! She is unorganized and sets her exams opposite to the text. Don't take her!
This class is not difficult. I got an A never studying for the tests considering all 3 equate to only 30 percent of your grade. Do the labs and required work which means showing up. Schedule is accurate. All lectures revolve around her and her lifestyle. I never paid any attention since it is not testable. Study the E book and you'll be fine.
I am currently taking this class online and it is miserable. It's a lot of work and labs and Professor Howton makes this class WAY too involved and difficult to be a general ed health class. I wouldn't recommend her. Ridiculous, can't wait til it's over.
DO NOT TAKE. Professor Howton's course was un-necessarily difficult for a required course. I studied more for this class than my other three (which I got A's in) and still only ended up with a low B. Don't expect to pass unless you have the time to go through the book with a fine-tooth comb and write down every word that she says.
She's very passionate about dance, and explains steps very well. Lenient attendance policy (You can miss 4 classes and it's only a 10 week course) but you don't want to because she moves very quickly. Overall it was an easy A, and I actually learned a lot of interesting dances and material.
Almost done taking this class online and I can't wait until it is over. Prepare to be amazed at the amount of work for a general ed PE class. Tests are hard, labs are tedious, and the projects are outrageous!! She is really nice but the class is overly difficult. Get ready to work....a LOT!!
This class is so much work and I think it is way harder online. The tests are hard as well as the projects. She is SO unhelpful and very rude. Do not take this class with this teacher!
This had to be the easiest class I've taken. I am shocked about these reviews, and I would tell people to take this class online. An A is extremely attainable. The projects and homework are simple, and you literally have to be blind to fail a test. She rocks!
Very unwilling to help at all. Clarity on assignments is very vague but then doesn't help when something messes up. Get another teacher if you can.
Horrible class. Online, she was so confusing.would change the rubric or guidelines 2 days before a project is due.You either get a 100 or 60 on everything.Just depends on her mood. I'm an all A student and this should have been a REALLY easy class, but it was not. Make sure you answer the questions on the worksheets with exact words from the book.
She is an awesome teacher! Very informative. She was also always ready to help or clarify instructions. You have to keep up with the work, but if you follow instructions and do your assignments you will be fine. If you have any questions never hesitate to ask. She was always willing to help!
Assignment criteria was not always clear. Feedback was sometimes kind of rude.
Class should be easy. I've heard other profs are a lot more fair. She is not accessible, very unhelpful and gives zero credit if assignment is even submitted on time but there are tech errors !!! Whaaat???
Make sure you keep up with stuff! She'll do projects that are supposed to take all semester, but they don't show up in the online module until the week they're due. She'll also expect photographic proof of some projects. Helpful, but can be unsympathetic.
I received an A in this class but I had to work hard for it. She is not very helpful and can even seem rude if you ask for help. Her assignments arent very clear so I would recommend asking questions about everything because if she can find a reason to take off points she will.
I was unsure about taking her class, but I ended with an A. There is not much homework. I mainly just made up numbers for the fitness part of it like your heart rate for the mile walk and my time. I recommend her!
She comes across as rude and pompous is she doesn't like the questions. Made things much harder than they needed to be. Would suggest taking someone else with a little more personality.
Incredibly rude, has a tendency to get "salty" if students misunderstood something she said. Can be passive-aggressive quite often, especially towards reading online textbooks. The homework is nothing much, however, it can be quite confusing. Get ready to submit page long reflections based on wellness twice a week. Definitely NOT recommended...

Probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She is extremely rude and demonstrates no respect for her students. TAKE A DIFFERENT TEACHER!! There are no tests, but she is annoying and just an awful teacher! She talks down to you, and treats you like a first grader. You have to buy the book, but rarely open it. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
She is absolutely awful. Her syllabus constantly contradicts herself and then she gets rude and tell you to refer back to the syllabus. I'm an all "a" student and I'm struggling to pass this class. Her standards change with the mood she is in and its either a bad grade or an even worse grade. Worst professor I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!
This professor is by far the worst. She skipped abusive relationships and mental illness just to tell us that she thought Christianity is polytheistic. She preaches about the vegan agenda but we found her eating meat. Do not go to her sex ed class. She will tell you what her preferences are. Maybe if she was vegan she could have taught better.
Extremely tough grader, very rude to students, are the nicest things I can say about this teacher.
You can make an A in this class but you must get through a communication block caused by a teacher who is consistently condescending and not afraid to call students out in front of everyone. Take her feedback and incorporate it exactly into future assignments. Write at least 2 pages for response questions. Its difficult, but possible.
Ms. Howton was an excellent ballet teacher. She has loads of experience and makes sure everyone is getting attention. She would correct you when needed, but also gave compliments where they were deserved.
Probably the easiest course I've ever taken and my online class discipline is trash. 6 modules, about 2 weeks for each, no tests and I actually learned quite a bit about health. Take it.
This class is by no means an easy A compared to other wellness cources. All the assignments it seems you can never be specific enough and sheep count it completely wrong.
She was horrible. She was the toughest grader I've had in college and I had more work in this class than I did any other class I took this semester. DO NOT TAKE HER. Just awful.
Took her for my only summer course she was fair and very informative if you were concerned about the course material. As an adult student taking her for my 1st online class I was pleasantly surprise. I would take her again, but be warned if you don't plan on learning anything she may not be the right online instructor for you.
Professor Howton's lectures are about the same every class. She preaches about her healthy lifestyle but her evidence is outdated. She has a difficult time citing her sources and uses the Super Size Me movie as proof even though it was proven wrong. Very particular about SMART goals. Tests are hard and she does not go over chapters in the lectures.
Left me at an 89.92 in the course. She is very difficult when grading and very particular about each and every single minuscule detail when looking over anything you turn in.
She is pretty rude honestly. She is a more strenuous grader than any other professor I have ever had. I suggest you do NOT take her under any circumstances or you will be left very annoyed and disappointed. She takes SMART goals EXTREMELY seriously and if you are slightly wrong she does not give you any credit. I highly regret her being my prof.
This class is mostly reading from the online textbook and taking quizzes and health assessments (written questionnaires). She grades these health assessments fairly critically, I would say. Not too hard but definitely not participation grade. If you do not read the textbook you will fail the quizzes. Most questions cannot be searched online.
Professor Howton's class is straightforward. There are 6 modules filled with a quiz, reading, fitness assignments/tasks, a few DQ's, etc. I've completed at least most of the modules in a few hours. Just take the time and complete everything and you should be fine. She is also great and quick at responding. Good luck!
I took her section of Contemporary Health Issues during the Summer 2020 semester. The class was very straightforward, down to the grading rubrics. Her expectations were pretty clear. Overall, an easy A.
I took prof. Howton for WELL 2000. Honestly these reviews are so off. One of the most organized professors I have ever had and she is very nice in her emails. I saw her 2 star rating and I was genuinely curious if she was a 2 star professor....and she definitely was not. This was an online course but overall great experience.
Unnecessarily difficult grader in WELL2000. Didn't follow her own rubrics depending on how she felt at the time. Absolutely obsessed with her fad goalsetting strategies; any paper not written EXACTLY the way she wanted would get 20-30 points off at random. Thinks she's an English professor. Do not under any circumstances take this professor.
not even difficult, just one of those classes that feels like a total chore. annoying comprehension checks in the middle of reading, and a percentage to count how much you read. unnecessary assignments that really didn't help my understanding of wellness, and on top of that, i had to pay because she uses a software for grading outside of D2L.
Unnecessarily hard for a health class. She grades extremely tough and doesn't follow her own rubric. Takes points off for the smallest things in the worksheets which makes it impossible to get a 100 on any of them.
Easiest class I have ever taken. She made it really easy
These reviews are off. There is a lot of work, BUT I took this for a 7 week course, so what do you expect? It took me maybe 3 hours a week to finish all of the coursework. It is a lot of work but it isn't hard at all. The hardest part was the end of module check ins but that wasn't too bad. There's no exams, but a quiz at the end of each module.
Was not gracious at all and extremely tough grader. She doesn't use D2L which is a little odd but its easy to navigate. She doesn't follow her own rubric and is hard to please. I thought this class would be easy but was really time consuming and hard.
Tough grading and needlessly convoluted assignments make this class a real chore. However, using Unstuck study alongside the required textbook can make studying more efficient and manageable. Overall, a challenging course but doable with the right preparation.
The reviews are terrible for a reason! The course isn't hard at all the readings and assignments are straightfoward but the My Health, My Impact assignments are hard for no reason at all. You get points taken off for the slightest things.
Very bad professor.
I'm curious if Amy has ever given a 100% on a "My Health, My Impact" assignment. Her grading is tough, often taking points off for any reason she decides. The feedback is subjective, without clear criteria. She's strict with due dates, despite outdated ones from October! Plus, the $100 textbook is useless and her portal has a horrible interface.
The class assignments are so easy, but the "My Health, My Check-In" are extremely difficult. It consists of easy questions, that shouldn't have a wrong or right answer. Her grading is EXTREMEMLY strict and is very subjective. She will find any way to deduct points even if you're doing everything right.
She is a very tough grader. Tons of work for no reason just for a class that I don't need. Wouldn't take again.
I took this as an elective and it was actually the stupidest amount of busy work I've ever experienced. She is the most meticulous grader, you can do something and think "I followed the rubric perfectly" and she will still find the littlest thing to take points off for.
She took off points for the smallest things. I had to pay almost $100 for a textbook that I didn't even use. She gave me a 0 on an assignment that I completed but it was written instead of typed. I would've dropped her class but I paid $100 for the textbook. I would not recommend her to anybody, if you can take someone else do it for your sanity.
worst grader ever. she is so inconsistent and does not follow her own rubrics. so subjective. the class itself is not hard you just have to do the modules and check-ins but the way that she grades is check-ins is ridiculous. its all just busy work
She's a really strict grader, so beware. However, she's a really nice person, but she randomly will take off points even if you think you were doing it right, especially on the check in assignments. I wouldn't say take her if it's absolutely necessary if not choose someone else.
