Professor Kavanaugh "teaches" the last GEB class. It is all redundant work, exactly the same as the first 3 GEBs. Pray that you don't have any questions or issues with assignments, because she is not helpful in the slightest.
This course is one credit and she clearly takes it too serious; she is clearly overcompensating for her unimportant class. Avoid this professor if you can. She is very annoying and unrealistic. She doesn't want to give you GEB points and will find every reason not to. If you want a laid back or even fair professor, AVOID.
This class is a joke, and the prior reviews are correct in saying that this "professor" takes it far too seriously. This is the last part of a 4-part class, and Amy Kavanaugh is the worst of all 4 courses. She is rude and unhelpful, and almost all of her mass email "feedback" consists of messages telling students not to question what she says.
Pretty straightforward, 4 assignments, 4 quizzes, and one final paper. I recommend doing all 30 GEB points and attend the live lecture early in the semester so you don't stress about it later. Amy Kavanugh isn't very helpful. She talks to you in a condescending way. Not friendly or understanding. But the class is easy.
Anyone who knows the structure of this course will understand my irritation. I was able to present at the EXCHANGE with my employer. I submitted this participation for "to-do points" credit and it was declined because "it has never been done before". The purpose of GEB is to be more involved to jumpstart your success. Not a supportive professor.
She is so rude. She doesn't care about her students and gives us no wiggle room to make mistakes to learn from. The class is easy, same as all the other GEB's, but she is SO strict on grading to do points and doesn't care if you defend yourself. Not supportive. It's her way or no way. Very condescending too. If you can take a different prof I would
Honestly, I enjoyed Professor Kavanaugh. She is very informative and gives good feedback. Go to the office hours if you have any questions about the assignments.
Class is really easy and probably unnecessary in all honesty, but the grading is harsh. Miss one thing and you will probably get a 0 that drops you a letter grade. Not very helpful via email.
She truly does not care about her students
There is a reason she has no 5 rating reviews. There is a reason most of her reviews are a rating of 1 . Take that into account.
Unapologetic, has no empathy for her students. Truly feels like she rather her students fail than succeed which is terrible because seniors take her class. Make her a TA or substitute or something
Irrelevant quizzes that must be taken in testing center and bad coursework. Amy acts as if she rather let her students fail being harsh on little assignments and does not even appeal to when you email her. Honestly, how did she become a professor
Honestly, she should teach Pre-K, not college students
Would not take again even if you paid me
Had to have been chose to be a professor out of a raffle
GEB 4004 is very repetative of the entire GEB series, but this was an easy, organized class with simple assignments.
Unnecessary course. Almost all of the stuff taught should've been taught before GEB 4223, which is the prerequisite of this class. Finally done with this money hungry GEB format. GEB 3006 and 3005 should be combined. GEB 4223 was a great interview prep. This one was a waste of time and money.
I have never enjoyed the GEB classes but this one was by far the worst. The professor is not kind and does not seem like she wants us to succeed. I missed one sentence on a To Do assignment and lost 15 points. One sentence.... for a 2-hour video on LinkedIn I watched. This is a 1 credit class, it should not feel like anything more.
GEB is always terrible as you know. It is now even more stressful after I submit anything cause you never know if your assignments will match PERFECTLY with her REQUIREMENT; If not, you never everrr earn the point back even you submitted it very early. For every single piece of stuff, ask them and follow whatever craziness they want us to do.
There's a reason her and all the GEB classes are ranked so ungodly low. Super unhelpful and argumentative when asked why assignments where not accepted. Feels very money motivated, like they invented this course to pay the admin more, cuz they really dont do shi in this class, expect lecture. I would believe they get payed more for failing students
Terrible professor, all the reviews are right. I would rather drag my nards across broken shards of glass and watch as her kids slowly ignore her (doubt she even has a husband) than spend 1 hour in her class
This class is the most annoying class you'll take at UCF, make sure you read every single detail on every single assignment because they're strict graders for no reason
These classes are extremely pointless, the definition of a money grab by the college of business. Elementary-level material, but there is just no benefit in taking these courses. The professor does nothing and grades these courses like they have value when in reality, its just a meaningless one-credit course we are all forced to take.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had. Unfortunately, this is the only professor available for this class which is required for all business majors. It seems she tries her hardest to fail students with "fine print" grading and handing out zeros like they're candy. She is unfair, rude, and dismissive to students. Absolutely terrible.
Can you imagine getting a zero without receiving feedback? I can. Can you imagine a professor getting defensive over her own faulty grading system for a useless class? I can. She does not there to prepare students, teach useful information, or grow the college of business. This is hands down, without a doubt, the worst professor I have ever had.
Now while it isn't her fault that the GEB series of classes exist, there is certainly no excuse for the content she chooses to teach. Somehow, despite there being four GEB classes specifically in the order of 3006, 3005, 4223, and 4004, they all are formatted the exact same way and provide no real learning experience. Total and utter waste of time.
This class is a joke. This lady tries to hard to justify her job its agonizingly painful, especially when reading her syllabus and announcements. Take a shot every time she says "will NOT be tolerated", "Unacceptable", "Not provided", "Not accepted", etc. Its probably easier to be a flexible professor than to enforce the level of strictness she has
Teaches a class about career professionalism and she's the most unprofessional professor I've ever had. Snide remarks and grades way too hard for what the class is supposed to be. If you have an Exchange event with a ToDo form, make sure you have 5 sentences with large well defined periods because she doesn't read what you put! Should be unemployed
Makes snarky comments towards students. Never had a professor this disrespectful. Grading is harsh and she takes this class too seriously for 1 credit hour. Unfortunately, she is the only professor for this class. If they add another professor, take that professor. She is unprofessional and rude, which is ironic for her class on professionalism.
I have genuinely never been so upset with a professor I felt the need to go out of my way to give them a bad review to warn others, however this professor is actually horrible. She is an insanely tough grader for a 1 credit class and will fail you on assignments without hesitation and not explaining as to why whenever you ask about them.
Horrible teacher.
Unclear policies and tries to make things harder for no reason.
The amount of work the GEB series require for a 1 credit course is actually insane. Not to mention this professor gives zero mercy when it comes to mistake. If you miss one component of an assignment but complete everything else, she doesn't care and you will get a zero. Bad way to teach students that one mistake leads to total failure.
This professor does not care about the students and whether they are learning. She only cares about technicalities and if you miss one small detail you will receive a 0 on the assignment. The content of this class is very easy to understand, there is no reason why so many students are struggling with a 1 credit class.
This is the word of the geb classes I've had so far. She is so harsh on grading if you make one little mistake she will take off way too many points. There is no reason that students should be getting less than an A in this class and we all do because of her awful grading.
Terrible Teacher and class
The class itself is very easy and simple. It is all just common sense and common knowledge. It is just a money grab for UCF as it is a required class that provides the students with very little. Professor Kavanaugh either had an attitude or was in a bad mood in the small amount of times I interacted with her. Class is self-guided but very basic.
Make sure that you read every announcement, assignment, email, etc because she will do everything she can to get you on a technicality that results in an automatic 0...
Same as the previous GEBs. One required class attendance, to do point submissions, a few homework assignments, and final video interview project. The class isn't fun but not hard. Do the work and follow directions and get an A.
Study all the readings and watch the lecture videos before completing assignments. Read all the fine print on the assignments bc they are easy on giving automatic zeros with ZERO exceptions. There is a final interview project but is easy if you do well on the assignments (about 4 assignments) and a final. DONT delay until the last day to do work.
Gives 0's out liberally with one sentence of feedback due to missing one obscure piece of criteria. What is the point of a rubric if you give 0's for so many reasons? 2/5 simply because there is some good interview preparation. Class doesn't affect your major GPA and is only 1 credit, so don't stress about poor grades. 1 lecture + 30 to-do points.
This course encourages you to take extra steps beyond your required coursework to succeed in your field. It focuses on connecting with alumni on LinkedIn, conducting informational interviews, writing cover letters, and building an E-Portfolio. I found an amazing mentor through this course. Put in the work in a timely manner, and you can't fail.
She is very nice in person and in email. When it comes to grading, she hands out 0s very often. She will be willing to provide resources and help if you need it, as long as it doesn't pertain to the course. She is very kind when it comes to COB things, but one of the most harsh graders at the college.
Allowed for plenty of exceptions, especially for the project. However instructions are ridiculous for project, FORCING you to jump through hoops to get a BUSY professional to respond to "thank you" emails, only allowing email and zoom (no text or phone calls), and requiring an active LinkedIn. Other than that, no other problems faced.
I mean just horrible. The class is very easy but you spend more time checking your work and the rubric so you don't receive a 0 then actually doing work. For a 1 credit hour course the professor and TAs are no help and have ridiculous rules.
For the final assignment, the task was to interview a professional in the field we are entering in after gradutaion. I interviewed a finance analyst, but Ms.Kavanaugh decided from a 5 second interpretation of the financial analyst's LinkedIn profile, that he did not meet the standard for the interview. She denied my interview and gave me a 0.
This class is a waste of time, just one project requiring contact with a professional. Finding a willing participant is pure luck, as most are working adults with families too busy to respond. Despite useful resources for career growth, the course fails to engage students or provide meaningful work. Good job stealing my money and time.
tough grader, deducts points for every little thing, classes will not help you break into a career and is a waste of time. mostly busy work.
Professor Kavanaugh is one of my favorite professors at UCF. She truly cares about her students and goes the extra mile to help them succeed. It's disappointing to see low ratings, but they likely come from those who procrastinate or don't follow directions. I highly recommend her class!
GEB classes are a clear money grab by UCF and "teaches" concepts that are mainly common knowledge and/or easily accesible online. This class was the best of the 3 that i've taken so far but still pretty much common sense. Amy clearly tries to compensate for the fact that the course she teaches is pointless and always has an attitude. Insufferable
Professor Kavanaugh has been one of the best instructors I've had at UCF. She genuinely invests in her students' success and consistently offers support beyond what's expected. I strongly encourage anyone to take her class—you won't regret it!
she is extremely strict about grades and word count on the assignments. this is a 1 credit class full of busy work where you learn basic common sense skills. the credit hours do not justify the amount of work required
Just like all of the GEB classes, read the assignment instructions CAREFULLY and don't hesitate to email her if you have absolutely any doubt because she's a tough grader and very specific. Class content is easy; you interview someone and do like 2 other simple assignments the whole semester. To-do points and one in person class attendance.
Tough grader for absolutely no reason. Will take points off for every little thing.
She does grade very harshly. I do think that for a one-credit class that grading this hard is a little unfair. However... I had troubles with the interviewing system, and she did right by me and allowed me to submit it another way. I recommend working ahead and not waiting until last minute. Read instructions carefully. It's not the worst thing
Make sure to find someone to have an informational interview with ASAP! That is your final project, but having someone to do it with right away saves you time and stress. The assignments are not super hard, just work heavy and make sure to read all the directions. Quizzes were simple and common sense. Not a very hard class at all.
Professor Kavanaugh is an incredibly knowledgeable and skilled educator. The course is straightforward, as long as students take the time to carefully review the assignment rubric and follow its guidelines.
I'm a non traditional student (old) so the required career professionalism series is pointless to me. BUT - the course is well organized and grading is clear. Decent amount of work for a 1 credit class but pretty easy and you can really work ahead and forget about. Only 2 exams and they are super easy.
She is not as bad as people make her out to be. People don't like GEB because they end up not doing the To-do points and lose points over it. Do the work = get the A. None of the GEB courses taught by her are "hard". 4004 was nearly the same as the previous 3 courses. I appreciate that they made the last one easier/less time consuming for seniors.
Absolutely terrible and this class is a waste of time
Class is ok, not too hard. Sometimes, It is just non sense
Like all of the GEB series, you need to lock in at the beginning of the semester and plan out how you want to succeed to do well. This professor does virtually nothing to promote your success as a student, it is up to you. Register for your attendance credit early, plan out your interviewee ahead of time, and you should be fine.
Amy needs to take her own class and consider finding a different career path.
You know what you're getting from GEB classes at this point. They're super easy, just so your work, you're fine. However, she ONLY had TWO homework assignments this semester. Therefore, you missed one and dropped a whole letter instead of 5% with four homeworks. I was out late for my dance team and missed an assignment, so I got a B
She's really not that bad. She is a very difficult grader and you do have to make sure you follow her rubric very closely, but I truly do think that she tries to set students up for success. She was also very nice in the only interaction that I had with her. Just be sure to follow instructions carefully and get your To-Do points done.
Between not grading certain todo points for awful reasons and just being bad, she needs to just go into a new career
That moment when a glorified HR rep becomes a tenured professor
Expect deception and unclear grading. Vmock will rate your online interview as doing a good job but she'll rate you based on how she feels rather than any clarity. Expect uncaring behavior and unclear feedback.
There aren't many assignments so your points are graded heavily on your To-Do points and 2 assignments. I completed an assignment but had trouble with submission, I reached out to her regarding the assignment after she had sent an announcement out to the class that she would be "happy to review the outcomes of the assignments." She gave me a 0...
There is way too much busy work for a 1 credit class. How is it even allowed to demand so much work for a class that actually means nothing, and the grading being strict to boot.
I followed all assignment instructions carefully, yet I received a zero for an assignment that included exactly what was required.
Don't expect to have any help from her. When trying to send emails to her about assignments or grading she will give you no help and not even a good direction. The class is about learning how the professional world is and she shows you that people will not care for you.
I do not understand the hate on her! She keeps the class updated every week and reminds us when something is due. Because this class is a 1 credit, grading is pretty much a 0 or 100, that's why you have to follow all instructions (for any GEB class). The one lecture you have to go to is quick and she is pretty funny and wants us all to succeed.
It's a one credit class with easy quizzes and assignments. Read the instructions and turn your work in on time. Ask the TAs your questions about assignments 2-3 days before the assignment is due. It is ridiculous how mad people get at this class; it is one of the more helpful classes in the College of Business. Also, the classes in person are cake.
Absolutely ridiculous amount of work for a 1-credit class. Grades off of unspecified requirements, which she seems to make up as she goes along. You will spend hours on busy work assignments that you have already completed multiple times before in the class. Dont even waste your time emailing her for advice or corrections, waste of your time.
Unreasonable amount of work for a one-credit class. Maybe that's on the college, but the professor certainly has control over assignment guidelines, and those are so over-the-top, it's ridiculous. For example, if the BUSY professional you interview doesn't respond to your THANK-YOU message, you get a zero for the whole assignment.
For a 1-credit class, she makes you do the most when everything you're learning has no benefit. She is not helpful at all and makes you jump through so many hoops just to end up nowhere. Easy but requires so much work, and it's really pointless. All 4 classes could be made into one. The worst part of the class, honestly, is the professor, Amy
GEB is just another money grab class at UCF. Everything that is taught here is common knowledge.
Worst class to take honestly. Is extremely picky over the most random and subjective things, especially for the vmock interview. It really feels like she is just looking for any excuse to take points off of an assignment, for a one credit class she grades way too harsh. Does not want to see her students succeed, and is genuinely a miserable person.
This course was not that bad and she was actually nice, that might change with the later 1 credit courses but GEB 3005 was simple. You just have to make sure to tell your professional every little detail like I did such as the reply message. The only issue is the short deadline on getting an interview, but Kavanaugh is prob not the one who set it.
The class is easy. Follow the instructions and rubrics, and you'll be fine. Most people get points off on assignments because they did not read everything. You only attend one class. VMock is a pain to use though.
Class was not hard at all. It is just 3 mock interviews you have to do online. Just make sure you read the rubric and fulfill all the requirements before sending to them so you get a good grade.
The class is not hard. Just ensure you read the directions carefully, and submit your assignments before the deadline. (Plan ahead for your To-Do Points)
The most important thing for this class is to follow all guidelines as closely as possible. Do not listen to anyone complaining about this class, it's really easy if you follow instructions. Also slightly more valuable than the first GEB if you take the time to network with your selected interviewee.
GEB is what it is. Do your work, you're fine. This one has weekly 5Q quizzes. They're online and taken at home. They're super easy and probably a good grade booster. The course is based around VMock, for the big homeworks. It sucks. The AI is going to be wrong and it's hard to tell how you did. She gives you a rubric, and grades it without the AI.
Doesn't know what she's talking about when it comes to the business world. Horrendous grader with no mercy for a single mistake. How does she still work here??
