Professor Larsen. Oh, where to begin?! Well, first off, she picks favorites. I know this year was an election year, but dang, this whole semester ALL we did was talk about politics. If you had a different opinion than someone else she let the whole class belittle you. She is very bias, and is not willing to help. She will expect printed and electronically submitted papers. If she loses them you'll get a zero, and if you bring it to her attention she is super rude. She is the worse, honestly. I would not recommend her. She is super awkward and not willing to help. She assigns so much reading homework. There were no tests, but the pop quizzes made up for that. Again, even as a last resort, I still would not take her class. It was the worst.
Took her pop culture class. She makes everyone get into groups to read your papers to each other. Grades really easy. She's really awkward and seems a little off, you never know if she's smiling at you because she's being nice or because she hates you .. easy weekly readings and a lot of discussing the books with the class
DONT TAKE HER! So awkward! Makes you participate a lot in class, most boring class EVER. She makes you read comics really boring and share your papers with your groups. Seems like she doesn't know what she is doing she just keep asking question just to waste time and doesn't teach much, she isn't specific about what she wants in the papers
She gives her students a complete assignment schedule for the whole semester, if you follow the schedule and do the assignments on time you will be fine. They are not difficult, and she is honestly willing to help, you just have to ask. Her grading is straight forward, the only negative thing is that attendance is mandatory and boring lectures.
Professor Larsen was very sweet and she never failed to answer the multitude of questions that I always had. As for grading, she has the potential to be a tough grader but you just have to follow the rubric and you will easily make an A. If you struggle with writing go to her during her office hours and she will be glad to help!
she gives out so much homework for English online. English is not my first language so I hate other people seeing my stuff, meanwhile with every paper she had you post it so everyone can give feedback. There were times where I loose internet and the quiz I was working on would time out and she responds with " I would look into that if I were you"
Dr. Larsen is a great professor. She is on the quiet/calm side of the scale, but she is very good at her job and teaches very well. She is tough on attendance but, assignments are manageable. I would take this class again and/or for ENGL 1302!! You do have to purchase a few books but its manageable to read all in semester !!
Dr. Larsen is ok when it comes to the online class. If you are taking her online, I suggest to get your work done early. She closes everything at 9 AM including major essays. The good thing about her is that she inputs grades within 1-2 days and gives good feedback. The books are required for online discussion forums.
The only redeeming factor about Prof. Larsen is that she chooses comic books over traditional novels. But it still is not that great. She will put you in groups, and there are so many papers to write, but you really don't actually have to read the whole books to pass. I got an A in her class, so I would she's good. She's pretty engaging.
Solid professor. Took it online and if you look at the course at least twice a week youll know whats going on and be able to meet up. She usually does at least one discussion and will give extra credit a lot. Grades are put in very quickly and she responds super quick too.
Amy Larsen is not a good online teacher, her stuff is very unorganized and she gets mad at us for not turning in the work. shes always saying how only a handful of kids always turn in their work but its because of how unorganized everything is, other than that she is OK but not the best teacher to take online if you could choose someone else.
This teacher explains information on how to write a paper very well. She has a bit of a timidness but is very direct on what she wants you to do. A very nice attitude and will try to be fair. There are quite a bit of extra credit opportunities at the beginning of the semester but not when you get into the proposal.
you will write A LOT, she also makes you participate in class and get into small groups and discuss so if you are shy be prepared to talk a lot... Other than that she's really nice, she will for sure help you when needed, she responds fast to emails. This class is not hard just don't skip class, read the books she assigns and you will be fine!
Professor Larsen is very organized and explains how she wants you to write the essays. She is always willing to help and responds to e-mails quickly. There are a few readings, but they are short and simple. Offers extra credit at the beginning of the semester & it ADDS UP. She does everything in her power to help you succeed, so just do your work.
Just attend class and be there on time, since the English department has a strict attendance policy. 1 small paper in MLA and a major research paper in APA. Do the hw, read the required readings and complete the writing assignments on time. Dr. Larsen is super nice! Ask for help if you need it
Taking her class one of the best decisions I made. We don't read any actual books, only comic books. Even then, I haven't read a single book and have gotten a 95+ on the two essays we have done. Makes you talk in groups, not graded. We have some online quizzes but you can retake them all to get hundreds. No tests, 2MLA 1APA essay, 1 final essay.
Regardless of what some comments say, I think she's great! She's actually one of the best English teachers I've had. Yes, there's a lot of reading and writing, but then again, it's an ENGLISH class. what do you expect? She grades very fair and If you are confused, just ask questions; she will help. Also, don't write your essays last minute
Awesome professor. Best professor even when we converted to online learning for COVID-19. Very accessible, responds to emails, and gives extensions.
Professor Larsen is probably my favorite English professor. She goes out of her way to help you understand the material and will email back quickly. She is a fair grader and gives extra credit throughout the semester. Overall she is fantastic, and I will definitely recommend her for anyone taking English.
I am taking Dr. Larsen's class for fall 2020 online. She is a very good professor and is clear about what she wants in the papers. She also uses Inquizitive which I love and helps me learn the topics.
This is my second time taking english 1302 (b/c covid hit and i had to drop last semester) Larsen's workload is way less than others! Professor Larsen is well organized having the course all online. She breaks down the essay so you have weeks to turn in small sections. There was a total of 2 big essays. 1 quiz and a discussion due every week.
I would recommend Professor Larsen, but her course is hard. Lots of essays, and they have specific criteria. Lots of discussion boards also. Other than that, she was super sweet and a great communicator.
TAKE HER! Dr. Larsen is a great professor. Yes, you have to write essays, it's English. You only have to write a couple of essays but turn in different parts at different times. She is very clear on what she is looking for and is a fair grader. She gives great feedback so your next essay grade will be better. Lots of discussions for peer review.
Great professor, she teaches material very well. Due to COVID everything was online but she always managed to make it seem like it was in person because of the videos she made to explain assignments and essays. Overall easy course and easy grader but you have to do the work to pass as expected. I barely did any daily assignments and still passed.
Professor Amy Larsen is amazing! I am not trying to exaggerate in any way I am serious! First off you write only 2 papers the whole semester and her style of teaching is very organized. Each week she schedules out work with specific information on what to do. She gives amazing feedback and has a few quizzes that you can take 2x! Trust me take her!
Dr. Larsen is an amazing English professor. I had a few schedule conflicts with the class at times and even strayed from staying on top of her assignments at times, yet she always understood my situation. She gave thorough feedback to ensure that my research project was successful and ultimately, I loved her class. I cannot recommend her enough!
I enjoyed taking Professor Larsen's online course. She explains assignments very clearly and the syllabus outlines everything as is. She is very responsive to students. There were reading assignments, quizzes/learning activities, and DBs every week. All of these were easy grades but very relevant and helpful towards essay writing.
Dr. Larsen is an amazing professor. She gives lots of good feedback on the papers and discussion boards. Dr. Larsen offers extra credit as well. Her class is not that hard just two papers, weekly discussion boards, and mini reading/writing assignments that are meant to help you with the essays.
Professor Larsen was an amazing professor to have as my first professor. She had many assignments that I actually felt helped me grow and learn. I would definitely take the professor again!
DO NOT take this class if you have a job. There's assignments at least 3-4 times a week. The organization of the modules makes it so hard and confusing to know where everything is by week. I chose this class based on other reviews, it didn't seem that bad but now I regret of taking this class because I work full time and have other responsibilities
Professor Larsen was the best online instructor I have had. She gave clear instructions, good feedback, and ample time to complete assignments. She is accessible through office hours and gives great writing support. There are quite a few reading assignments but if you budget your time they will be a breeze. I actually finished the course early.
I would say her class is okay, it's just extremely heavy and sometimes complicated work. For example, If you miss one discussion board, you can't do the next week's board (causing your grade to go down). In the end, if you are struggling in her class, and she can tell you are trying in her class. She will absolutely try her best to help you. :)
She will make you write endless pages of 3 essays as well she is one of the toughest graders. I have been a straight A student in all my classes as an engineering major and this class was my first B, I wrote a 25+ page essay and she would give out C and F if I made one mistake. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!! The quizzes were insanely difficult!!!
Brings political views into the classroom. An English teacher should remain non-bias! No lee-way with grading or missing assignments. Not too much HW, but disorganized. Good enough teacher for the average student, but some might have a lot of trouble connecting and understanding the classwork, don't expect any thing exceptional from this class.
Took her fall of 2019, she was very understanding and we didn't have much reading to do. Was a bit strict about arriving on time but besides that she was understanding. The final consisted of a written essay and the essay papers were short and simple topics. As long as you read the class will go by smoothly. Definitely took her again for ENLG 1302!
Took her spring of 2020 as a hybrid course and the class was very simple. She is very understanding and offered extra credit. The essays were kind of long but the topics weren't that hard. Get ready to read, and do discussion posts. All assignments were due online at the end of the week. As long as you do the work the course will go by smoothly.
Overall, the class was relatively easy. Just be prepared for long, boring lectures, a couple of essays, and lots of reading. Don't buy a hard copy of the textbook because it was a waste of $100.
I had to end up dropping this class and going to a different professor due to how unprofessional and insensitive she is. I had missed the syllabus quiz due to my baby being hospitalized for croup/covid. She had locked down the assignments and would not let me participate in class. Believe the low ratings for a reason. She is terrible.
This professor sets every document submission to Turnitin, to check for plagiarism. She is also strict that if any student fails to respond to two peers will be banned out of the next discussion and will receive a zero. I even missed out one of the quiz assignments I didn't even know about it. Never want to be in her course again.
This class will be difficult if you don't like reading. You have quizzes every week and discussions. It is not just one quiz per week if not 3 or 4 so you will be reading a lot. Discussion boards are long and you must respond to 2 people. You do need a textbook for this class but if you don't want to pay it is a free copy on Annas Archive.
If you want an easy F take Professor Larsen's class. Claimed all my essays had "academic dishonesty" and was insensitive and rude when I spoke to her in person about it. Must check in online everyday otherwise you will miss assignments that she does not alert students of. I never thought I would have to write a bad review for a professor
Dr. Larsen wants her students to succeed. She gives good feedback on discussions and essays. She is caring. I missed an assignment at the very end & she understood. You have to read & put in the work. She doesn't grade essays hard. She understands we're still learning. She also drops several quizzes just in case you miss one. Definitely recommend
You can never turn in late work even if you did the work on time and even if she knows you've done the work she still wont let you turn it in and she asks for everything to be done on paper.
She was pretty cool. Her class was simple and easy. The grades consisted of 2 papers n a few quizzes w the text book. Only thing I didn't like was her lecturing. She's very quiet but she grades pretty easy and answers all the questions.
I took her last semester and I would recommend her for anyone that's not really an English nerd. She grades pretty easy and gives good feedback. The grades consist of 2 papers n a few quizzes that come w the text book. She's pretty cool only thing is her teaching. She's a little slow.
If you're aiming for a high English grade, I'd recommend thinking twice before taking her class. The grading is pretty strict, and she's not very responsive to student emails.
This class was extremely frustrating. I left the course feeling more stressed than supported. Would not recommend.
She is very nice and will answer any questions through her email! Make sure to read all instructions clearly and thoroughly because I did make a few mistakes that I only caught after I submitted and did have a few consequences. Other than that, a lot of the assignments are participation graded. She is great!
She's just terrible honestly. She WILL give you a zero on an 8-page essay simply because you can't verify your citations, which is only 10 points off based on the rubric that she posts. She is not helpful at all when it comes to email communications and in-person is even worse. Waste of my time and my GPA.
She was a very good professor, but she graded very strictly on the papers, as well as flooding us with work outside of class. She had class favorites so you had to be on her good side to receive good grades. Be very careful if you're thinking of taking this class.
