THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE HAD AT DE ANZA. MISS HER CLASS ALREADY! SHE'S EXTREMELY HELPFUL. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND MS. LEONARD. TOO BAD SHE'S NOT TEACHING ENLISH 1A THIS QUARTER.
Great teacher. Lots of homework but u learn a lot from her class. Do journals almost everyday(1/2 page)and 5 big essays. She's hot and her lecture is very interesting. Just sit there looking at her and u'll find ideas for ur essay
Leonard is one of the best english instructos at De Anza. Her lecutre is very clear and she is EXTREMELY helpful to improve your writing skill. She do teach you a lot about grammar structure.I really want to take her class again!
she is so great! the best teacher in de anza! just do the hw and write essays, u will easy pass!! high high highly recommened!! i love her
She is one of the best and helpful professor that I've ever had. highly recommended,You wont be bored at her class
By far the best teacher at De Anza.
She also teaches English at West Valley. Her classes are kicked backed with group work for the most part. She actually almost never lectures. Class disccusions for the most part. Write all the essays decently and do the homework and you will pass. She also gives out a ton of extra credit.
I have never been board in her class. Highly recommended. I would definitely take other classes with her.
This teacher is really awesome. A very cute smile all the time, funny. She made my morning everyday. If you're taking EWRT 211 then take her. But if you're taking EWRT 211 in the morning THEN DEFINITELY TAKE HER!!!
Amy's a great teacher! She explains everything well, she's really cool, keeps you awake in class, and you guys get to watch pretty interesting videos. Make sure you participate in class and always bring your books. The essays aren't too hard; as long as you do your homework, you're totally fine.
She grades pretty tough, but she is very helpful. Almost everyday, we do group competitive assignments against other groups for extra credit. She gives a lot of extra credit. I think she is a good teacher for this level, but if she teaches a higher level of English, i think it would be problematic and difficult for her. Take her remedial courses.
Good class, so I am not sure what the other poster was talking about. Lots of quizzes from the book, which sucks, but the essays were easy, the examples she used were relatable, and the topics were on stuff I actually found interesting. She stayed after class to help with essays too, so it's an easy A if you do the work.
She is an interesting and fun teacher who is easy to talk to or ask for help. The only reading you have to do is from the novels, but for the textbooks you can probably slide by with a friends help, since the quizzes aren't hard at all.
She is my favorite teacher. He classes were fun and entertaining but I still learned something. She is so nice and always there to help anyone. I would recommend her. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!
Engaging, fun, and lively class. Amy is knowledgeable, friendly, and has great ideas which encourage us to express and flesh out our own ideas. Classwork is not incredibly difficult, neither is homework. Makes me NOT want to miss class, but I'm not sure if that's because the exchange of knowledge is exciting or that I have a huge crush on her :3
Amy is a sweet, laid-back, engaging teacher. She's very knowledgeable in this course! Reading is a must because we discuss the literature every day, and she likes it when you speak up in class. Very helpful, and willing to work with you!! Likes to laugh, and have fun in class, but gets down to the text as well. Take her; you won't regret it!
This is hands down the best English class I've ever taken. Even when I wasn't that into the reading assignment, the discussions were engaging. There isn't too much work, but she's not an easy grader. She does give boatloads of extra credit though, I think she genuinely wants to give everyone an A if she can. Take her class if you can!
Amy is a great professor and keeps the class engaged to the topic by actually making us talk about it with other students. She also offers extra credit worth over 10% of your grade and gives you points just for beings in class so getting an A is definitely not very hard. Overall highly recommended, much better than other English teachers I had.
She's a very hard grader but she's also a good teacher. In the end, I did learn a lot about improving my writing, bias, fallacies, and MLA. If you think this is an easy A though, you are dead wrong.
Remember to proof read your essay again and again before submitting. She has high expectation on the students, and sometimes I found hard time to know what is her favourite style. Fun class though, I enjoy my quarter with her!
She's very nice and cute. Expects much, which is motivating. Uses a variety of lecture techniques to mix it up. Learned a lot in the class that goes beyond "Shakespeare," like history, psychology, race and class issues. Very well rounded and interesting. It seemed like a lot of reading, but she did often refer to the assigned books in class.
First, she is very pretty. After that, it is a good english class, you read more than the average english class but the quizes and everything else are mostly easy. The papers are graded toughly and the debates I dislike (graded on a WIN/LOSE scale). There's extra credit plus she replies to emails and helps you after class. She also brings candy.
I had her for shakespeare. nice, friendly, approachable person. she really knows what she is talking about. tests are take home and usually involves an essay. quizzes are easy as long as youve done the reading. i didnt enjoy the acting so much in this class but i did learn alot and the class was interesting.
Fun class! Lots of games and fun assignments, and she makes writing seem easy. It was actually fun to come to this class, so I would recommend it if you have to take 200.
Loved the class! Got to read interesting plays and Shakespeare finally made sense to me. You have to be there every day, but she makes it fun and the reading load was very chill. Take her if you can.
funny, engaging, and demands your personal best. she's a great teacher, would highly recommend.
Very helpful and extremely passionate about the subject. Funny and makes class time pass by fast. Does a thorough job of covering the material. I learned more in one quarter than in one year of high school english!
FAVORITE english teacher. I really didn't think I was a very good writter until after her class, I ended up with an A and she requested me to be a tutor. She's really fun and personable and she acts just like the students. Her class was pretty easy too, summer class only wrote 3 essays :D
Amy is organized, helpful, and clearly states her requirements. The class was rigorous yet rewarding. We had 3 essays and the option of 2 in class essays-of which she'll drop the lowest score. She is more than happy to help students and can keep the class engaged. Im taking her for EWRT 2 because she was amazing and holds us to a high standard.
Love this class she is a wonderful professor. She gives the student fun lectures. So recommend this class to everyone!!
She acts like one of the students! Very nice but holds her ground. Very interactive, and a lot of discussion. Her class was fun. Im an A student, and i hardly went to class, but still got an A. Just do the work. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities!
At first, I thought her class was going to be hard. Turns out, her class was super easy if you do the ALL the work! She's well organized, funny, & gives a lot of extra credit. A LOT of group work & pop quizzes, but they were easy. She's so chill & seems to be a helpful friend, more than a teacher. Pretty cute sometimes, too. Highly recommend her!!
Amy is awesome! Her class is tough, but she's always open to questions and will give you help in her office hours if you need it. There's a lot of in-class work, and the time flies by. Assignments actually have substance. Do the assignments, do the reading, and turn on your brain, and you'll do well.
SUMMER 2012 AMY IS A GREAT PERSON. QUALITY OF CLASS IS GREAT. But what threw me off was creating handouts for the class during the social issues research project. Lame that you have to bring food or no points. My class was like high school again, all using Ipads and laptops. Both Midterm and Research paper presentation you need to use powerpoint.
MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO ANNOTATE BIBLIOGRAPHY!!! I ONLY WISH THAT SHE WOULD BAN THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY Besides the basics of taking ENGLISH 1A just make sure you can make handout brochures & how to use powerpoint for both MIDTERM AND RESEARCH PROJECT Class is also a mix of public speaking & little critical thinking. SERIOUSLY THANK YOU AMY!
At first it'll seem like a lot of work, and it is but you learn a lot. You actually learn how to make your essays better and she teaches you a lot about writing. Theres Extra credit, quizzes(group) and different essays. I really liked her as a teacher. I got B's on her essays and an A+ in her class! GREAT teacher!
Leonard is a great instructor, makes you work to your full potential, can be stressful. She really goes deeply in to what she is teaching.Pretty difficult class but you will gain good skills in writing.Does alot of group work and TEAM CHALLENGES!! pretty good teacher tho. I would take her again if you dont mind all the work
Ms. Leonard is THE BEST EWRT instructor at De Anza. Get ready to WORK hard. Class can be a lit' stressful but there is a fair amount of group work (nothing I ever look fwd to) but sometimes it was helpful. 3-4 essays, lots of reading. you will learn a lot from her.
I wouldn't call her class an easy A but she gives you so many opportunities to succeed, if you choose to take them then you can say her class is an easy A. Easybib & thesaurus dot com will be your best friends. 3 essays in the summer & the final was a presentation on a subject so general you could pick any topic &relate it back. Highly recommended
In Amy's class you have to work hard. Tough grader but you will learn from her. Questions? Don't hesitate to ask. Wait after class or go to her office hours and she will explain what you need to work on. The only thing I didn't like is that she made you go to tutoring. A waste of time. I rather ask my English major friends. Overall, great teacher!
Amy has got to be one of my favorite teachers at De Anza. It's true that there's a lot of work, but it's not hard. They're really easy assignments! 3-4 essays, not hard considering the fact that she guides you through the steps to write it. She's really nice, funny, and just a cool teacher overall. Definitely take her if you get the opportunity!
She was funny, helpful, and very engaging. She really wants her students to do well and offers several opportunities to catch extra credit for the stragglers.Overall I think she's one of my favorite professors so far!R
She is nice and helpful....but her class is extremely boring and full of confusion if you didn't grown up in American culture. In EWRT 211 class, she will do the topic about hero movie. It is very difficult who didn't grown up in American style hero logic and American movie. Can you think list 20 American movie that human fight with human in 3 min? Are you familiar with the American movie which is over 5 years ago? If your answer is no, this class is not for you.
I took her LART 200, and LART 211 last year. She is a really nice teacher. She is clearly, answer your question to the point, and really patient. I strongly recommend her. Best teacher I met at De Anza.
Take this class. It is so simple to pass as long as you do the work. It seems a lot but it really isn't. As long as you do the reading you will pass it. You will have quiz everyday, 2 essays and 2 in-class essays. TAKE IT! ITS EASY.
Very understanding, helps students, and tries to get you the grade you want(or better). Easy essays but the little points missed here and there add up. Super chill and likes talking sports. Take her if you want easy work and a good grade, plus the zombie stuff is interesting.
Her class topics are always so interesting she would always pick the coolest books to read i definitely would take her again!!!!
Best teacher I've ever had. De Anza is lucky to have her. Smart and cute. What more can you ask for? Definitely got distracted in class. :)
Ms. Leonard is the perfect teacher. Beauty and brains. Wow!
This class is amazing. As long as you do all the work, it is easy to get an A in the class. I definitely recommend her. If you have any questions, she is always there for you. The group presentations are fun and the essay topics are super interesting.
Getting to class at 7:30 AM is a pain, but having Amy makes it worth it. She is a cool teacher who makes the class atmosphere lively. Lots of great discussions and essays. Be prepared to do lots of group activities and annotations. Gives plenty of extra credit opportunities. Grades essays pretty hard.
I enjoyed taking Amy's class even though it was so early in the morning because we do challenges for extra credit. She is really helpful because of the extension and revision coupons she hands out. Her feedback really helps in improving essays. All of the required texts were used. Don't miss class because you'll most likely miss out on points.
Sweet Lord this prof turned me Bi. I would give anything to be with. Ha. But the course content was pretty easy. Easy A.
Ton of readingwork every week. Essays every other week, 5 essays total D: I hope you like zombies cause that's all you'll read, talk, and write about. Doesn't matter what grades you're used to getting, you probably won't do that great on essays. She refuses to read essays before you turn them in. Too much work, not worth taking.
Take her class if you really want to learn how to write. She is nice, clear, and humorous. What i feel after taking her class is non-stop learning the whole quarter. She is a liable professor! I feel lucky to take her class!
Amy is an awesome teacher! You would learn useful writing skills from her. Her class is amazing, and I hope to take her again! But she is not teaching 1A this quarter :( I strongly recommend you all to take her class!
She's the reason I changed my major to English. She gives her students such an amazing learning experience. I really looked forward to her class. She's also SO helpful. Even when I was taking a literature class, that wasn't taught by her, I STILL looked to her for help and she was more than happy to assist me. Amy's a real one.
took amy for english 1A and mythology and would take her again. She really connects with students and is a fun teacher. in mythology there was a lot of reading at the beginning but later on was very interesting. she prefers group work and presentations. Always has a debate in class. she does time you in daily writing but you can work in pairs.
She is one hot teacher that distracted me all quarter with her beauty. Anyways she is super chill teacher but attendance is important. She is very helpful. She is tit for tat so if you are nice to her and others in class and she sees that you are trying your best then definitely she is very helpful. Lots of extra credit. Class is so fun.
simply the best. Super helpful, gives advice she helps students succeed. I really hope she teaches EWRT 1B in the winter of 2015.
Great teacher very understanding gives you extra credit plus lets you make up essay with an extension coupon will take again
I've taken this class for my summer quarter and I have to say I really enjoyed being in it. Amy is a wonderful teacher, she's a bit tough on grading, can't have more than 5 errors on each page of your essay but at the same time it's to make you a better writer. I highly recommend this class there are a lot of discussions so be sure to participate.
SHE IS AMAZING!! her books are easy and fun too read... over all she's an awesome professor. I would really recommend. SHE loves it when you pass by her office hours and ask questions. she's the real MVP :P
She's definitely part of the small group of instructors I found inspiring. She's a tough grader, but genuinely wants you to do well. I seriously recommend her to anyone. She's actually understanding and will work with you if you have issues. Lots of writing but the material is good :)
ok class. uninspiring.
Amy is a fantastic teacher. I hate writing essays but the way she breaks stuff down makes it so doable. A lot of essays and there is no final. Instead of the final you have to turn in a portfolio with your best essays. She is easy to talk to and give awesome feedback on essays.
sweet, sweet, sweet! I love her! Not an easy A, but worth taking, if you wanna become a good writer.
I love Amy! Definitely would recommend. It seems like there is a lot of work, but she's very helpful. So, the work isn't as bad as you think. She is a tough grader on essays, but as long as you do the work and turn in a complete folder, you'll survive. There are tons of extra credit opportunities. She wants you to succeed as much as you do.
Amy was an amazing professor. She was extremely helpful and very clear during her lectures. She makes us do tons of group work but it was fun and enjoyable. I really enjoyed her class and would definitely take her again.
Amy is a fantastic professor! She's one of the few professors I've ever met that has an interest in her students and listens to them. Her grading is tough but she really makes things feel a lot easier than you might work it up in your head to be. It creates a really relaxed and fun classroom environment. Would totally take her again any day!
Great teacher with an awesome personality but THERE IS SO MUCH WORK. Waaaaay too much. If I knew there would be so much, I wouldnt have taken her. She teaches a lot of good information at a UC level and is a strict grader. Take this class if you actually want to learn and do work.
She is amazing! There are 4 essays in this class, but the 1st one is about yourself and the last one is a group project for a debate. I don't see what negative thing I can say about the class honestly (we only talk about technology and robots tho). Also somedays, she brings us free food. HW are not heavy at all. And she gives a lot of extra credit.
Shes laid back 30 year old. She loves to hike and is a nice person. She used to teach off of Catalyst, but recently started using Canvas during Winter quarter. It wasn't that bad, she grades essays off of Canvas so you can always read your feedback. The class is really easy. She literally hands out A's. It really annoying when she say sad times.
Amy is a nice professor. She's beautiful. Her lectures are always interesting. Even though I failed the first essay, I still ended up getting an A+. ( She throws out a thousand chances for extra credit.) The final debate was fun. 4 essays. 1 journal every week. Lots of homework but doable. Leanred a lot from this amazing class :)
The essays aren't boring topics but make sure you don't slack on them; They aren't the kind that you can type up last minute. You also don't want to skip class because she will do pop quizzes based off of the lectures and book. It's required that you speak to a tutor before turning in your essays.
Amy is the best instructor at de anza college. Granted, i haven't seen them all, but Amy is awesome! first day of class i couldn't stop thinking how beautiful she is! The next 3 months i realized not only is she very, very pretty, she's super friendly and kind. she met us at our level and went out of her way to make time after class to help us.
Amy means amazing. she's really fun and has a great personality!
Amy's class is energetic and interesting. Get a lot of in-class pop quizzes for extra credits. A lot of group work and innovative projects. Gives good feedback. I really enjoy her class. Just remember to do all the assignments and you should get a fairly good grade.
Easy online class if you're good at doing assignments. Grading is fair and tons of extra credit. Easy A if you tried.
really nice, engaging w students, tons of extra credit. just show up most of the time, she lets you out early anyways. assignments aren't difficult so just do them and you'll get an A. one of the best profs at da imo.
TAKE HER CLASS! Amy is an amazing professor. She is so caring and sweet. She give students so many extra credit chances. I failed my second essays and still pulled an A. The works are fair and doable. 3 essays and 1 group project. Each week there is a discussion on canvas. Super easy to do. Instructions are super clear. She is active on email!
The works is a lot but DOABLE! She is so nice to the point that she let you revise your essay if she found plagiarism! Don't complain ab the extra credit! She give out so many! Honestly, if you dont put in the time to study then pls dont complain. She is super nice! She let me turn in late assignments with out deduction!
She's nice, but this class is way more difficult than I expected it to be, based on the reviews on here. She gives ton of fantasy-based topics like"monsters", which annoyed me. Personally, I'd rather write about topics applicable to the real world. Luckily she gives extra credit options on a weekly basis. I can't wait for this class to end.
Took her online. Gives EC. The theme of this class was "monsters" something stupid to research about. The class is hard. 4 essays and final based off books she required you to buy. She grades you tough and doesn't provide you with feedback how she grades you. She'll explain her grading if you schedule an appointment with her during office hours.
Professor Leonard is a good professor, but she usually never gives feedback and you're mostly going to get feedback from your classmates who might not know what is good grammar or sentence structures. If you're taking her online class prepare to post weekly discussion posts about weird topics as well and read the assignments given!!!
She is a nice teacher, and her class was filled with hilarity. However, I think her instruction of was not quit clear. Be ready to read the assignments, know how to cite MLA format precisely, one presentation project, and four essays.
Her grading is hard for an essay, but she gives some extra credit. It is not hard to get an A on her EWRT1.
I got an A in this class but it was difficult. There are so many assignments and multiple things are due per week. I would highly recommend getting the Easy Writer text she requires unless you are already a pro at MLA format. I went from knowing nothing about MLA to her feedback stating I was excellent at MLA. Pay attention to the many due dates.
To talk about Amy, she's perfect. I took her class EWRT 1 &2, and I NEVER regret anything. She is the BEST teacher I have ever met. This is especially a lot of extra credits in her class. You may not be good at the essay, but extra credits can save you a lot. You should take her class if you can, and you are sure you will be satisfied with that.
Fair A but I actually had to work for it and I'm above average intelligence. If you're busy with hard science classes etc, time management and EC should help you do well even if you suck at writing. She is super nice and really wants you to do well, so go to her office hours for essay help! Don't mess up on MLA that'll cost you an automatic fail
She gives good feedback, and her office hours are really useful. I did learn how to be a better writer and a lot about MLA. Turn in all your work on time, put in more effort, do the extra credit, make sure your MLA is right and you'll get an A for sure.
This class exceeded my expectations in every way. There is a ton of work for sure, but your writing and critical thinking skills will greatly improve if you put in the effort. The extra credit assignments are a gift. Don't skip them because she's a tough grader. There's a lot of writing and reading but the content is super interesting. Take her!
Highly recommend Professor Leonard! She is a great teacher who is understanding and wants to see her students succeed. EWRT2 online does require a lot of work, but it all was fairly interesting. Stay on top of your assignments and youll be fine. She also offers a lot of chances for extra credit.
Very specific about what she wants
I took Amy's EWRT1 and EWRT2. Both of them are connective, so it is good for taking two class with Amy. I took EWRT2 for online. It is not hard for getting an A, but be careful of MLA citation and essay.
Amy is an awesome teacher! Her directions of class work and homework was very easy. Makes the class fun by doing lots of in class activities.
Her grade for an essay is not easy but if you work hard, you will be able to receive a good grade. there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. she is so nice. I recommend you guys to take her class.
I like Amy because she's caring, she's sympathetic, and she gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. She can create a fun and happy environment for students to de-stress with certain fun activities. And most importantly she doesn't have favoritism on students.
I took EWRT 1A and EWRT2 with Amy Leonard. She is an exceptional professor and cares about her students. Both the classes are easy as long as you do all the assigned work. You might feel a bit intimidated by the work, but rest assured, it will be doable. Make good use of her office hours for any sort of feedback. Go ahead and take Amy's class!
I had a 103% the whole class until the last three assignments. She is unfair and doesn't respond to emails.
She's the best professor ever ever ever. She's rally helpful and she expects every student to get and A in her class. If you can't get an A in your class then that's your problem.
Amy is the best EWRT1A professor I've ever had, and it would be a missed opportunity if you didn't take her class. Her class is always so fun, and her lectures are short, but what she teaches makes you want to stay longer. Discussion posts are always fun and I love the topics that she chooses for the essays. Take the class! You'll love it so much.
She gave us 5 papers to write during the summer quarter, which means every week we need to finish one essay. A lot of homework. If you have many classes along with, choose her class carefully.
One of the best professors for English. She's not an easy grader, but you will learn from that. Took her in the summer so the class was very heavy. But as long as you put in some effort, you will get an A. 5 papers in total for the class. She has many topics for each essay so it's a good thing too.
Best professor for English! 5 essay assignments, 4 quizzes on the reading, and some assignments. Shes super caring and gives great feedback. For someone that is bad at writing essays, she made it seem simple. Offers a bunch of EC opportunities as well. You dont regret her class! Thank you professor Leonard!
Amy is a smart, sassy, beautiful woman/professor. She gives you a lot of work to complete but offers a lot of extra credit. You must do the E.C. if you want an A because she grades your papers hard. Keeps the course interesting throughout and thought provoking. Appears to be impartial while grading students of all political leanings.
Took this class online during covid. Super easy class, 5 papers including one research paper at the end. Lots of extra credit as well. If you see her, you must take her. ez dub.
Lots of work but there's also lots of extra credit. Her assigned readings and videos were actually interesting. She also gives lots of feedback and is always ready to answer her students' questions.
Do the work and you will get an A. Make sure to try your best of the critical thinking challenges because those are graded the hardest. Read the rubric for each. Other than that she gives a lot of extra credit
best teacher easy A if you do the work and lots of extra credit
You definitely need to put in the work for an A in this class, but that doesn't mean it's not doable. There are lots of opportunities for EC so do them all for an A or A+. Very fun class and instructor is super sweet and always available to help if needed.
Prof. Leonard is a real gem. She is caring and gives helpful feedback. In Ewrt 2, you would need to write 5 essays, which one of them was a prep for the research paper so you may automatically get 100% on it. There were a ton of EC which could crazily boost your grades. Prepare to read and watch videos for discussions and weekly journals.
If you are an international student, I totally recommend Prof Leonard. She is amazing and you will learn a lot from her class.
Be prepared to get a LOT of homework, and I mean a LOT. This is coming from a 4.0 gpa student. You will NEED to WORK for the A. Don't trust all the other comments out here. They say it is easy n all but its not. Trust me, I'm getting bombared with 5-10 assignments every 3-4 days. She expects you to go above and beyond for 100% on assignments.
Pretty cool teacher. Provided interesting videos and texts to read. She doesn't give much feedback though. But honestly, you should be fine if you did well in your high school English classes.
Professor Leonard is very nice. She has all the work neatly organized in modules. Some 200+ word assignments, about 4 quizzes, 5 big assignments (One of which is a paper). Easy A if complete all the assignments and extra credit. You also don't really need to read all the assigned reading.
+Online savvy. Professor leonard was easy! take her but you need to manage your time wisely. you obviously have to put in the effort as its a 5 unit ge course. its easy to maintain an A at the same time.
Prof L was awesome! She doesn't give too many essays to do and instead will switch it up with presentations or video projects. She is also super understanding and will help you as long as you reach out to her. I also took her for EWRT1A and loved her so much that I took her again. Take her!!!
Would not recommend for a 6 week period. Surprisingly many grammatical mistakes in assignment descriptions and many discrepancies between module summary and the submodules (ex: due dates, specific requirements). One paper for the summer, and many other assignments per week. Reading (3 books was overwhelming, but expected for a summer quarter.
Easiest English class I have ever taken hands down. Professor Leonard's assignments are straightforward and as long as you turn in everything on time, you'll be good. She also provides extra credit almost every week. It's not difficult to get that A, strongly recommend her!
Easiest class I have ever taken since everything was straightforward and easy to do. This class is not time consuming so if you just want an easy A, take this class.
She grades a bit harshly but you have a lot of extra credit assignments to compensate for that. utilize your resources and go to her office hours if you have any trouble. The final paper average was a 61% at one point. Some students had to email the prof or go to her office hours to get a better grade.
This class was easy, given the extra credit opportunities. But get ready to put in lots of effort for the grade!
Take this class if you want a free A. It is very easy and not time-consuming. However, little feedback will be provided in essays. High school English classes are harder and possibly more useful for improving your English than this class. Instructions/rubric can be hard to follow at times, in which case I'd recommend dropping by office hours.
Pretty solid hybrid class! Professor Leonard is a very understanding, kind person who is always available outside of class. 3 essays plus 1 video project and 1 reflective poem at the end. Super easy as long as you following the rubric. A bit heavy on discussion posts, but not too time consuming. Tons of extra credit available in-person and online.
You will need to make a time-management really well. Need to do every single assignments for A+. Assignments will be heavy. If you take many major and hard classes, I don't recommend to take this class. You will get too much pressure. Lectures are easy and fun class. For me, I had a hard times in doing assignments but done perfectly.
Easy A and does not give out minus grades. Make sure to do most of the extra credit (it's easy). 3 short "essays" (critical thinking challenges) + 2 video slideshows + 1 research project (1500 word essay OR ~20 slide presentation). Grade is heavily based on the assignments above. Stay on task and you will do well.
I took her back to back for EWRT 1 and 2 for the IGETC requirement. She is a very nice professor and answers emails, definitely reach out to her if you'd like. Grading was easy as long as you completed the assignments, not much to worry about on anything besides the essays. I would recommend her, great professor. Workload was good as well.
Lots of work, but otherwise very easy. If possible, take her hybrid because the hybrid sections are SUPER FUN. Make sure you do the work early and time manage well because the work can get overwhelming, but she offers extensions if you need them.
hands down my favorite writing classes of all time was with prof leonard. Im nit sure she remembers me anymore but she was def a professor ill always remember. my class was online and since it was in the fall it was halloweeb themed. to get an A, makesure to do every assignment throughly. read through the teinstructions, come to office hours,
She is the coolest professor in de anza college
She is my favorite professor. I really want to recommend her classes
when you go to office hours honestly shes so kind, if you deal with writing anciety like me, prof leonard, has got your back. shell help you and def offer extra credit opportunities. I transferred to university now and the experience is totally different in writing class. i miss hers so much. Do the assignments early, listen tofeedback, get samples
Take Professor Leonard! She is the sweetest and super lenient! Not a very heavy workload and she offers lots of extra credit opportunities! She is a very lenient grader as well:)
I took EWRT in the summer semester. Lots of homework, due on Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday. The paper was not graded according to the rubric, and was docked 90 points for some minor MLA citation errors. I did not learn much from this class. The lectures were mostly YouTube videos found online. Her feedback on the paper was unclear and unhelpful.
Giving 2 days for an 1000-words essay.
Chill prof, but didn't actually do much teaching. Class meetings dominated by student presentations. Online dominated by 3rd party YouTube videos. Writing feedback was AI generated and not her own feedback on the writing. Overall, the only valuable part was the weekly writing prompts and the other students. Easy grader as long as you turn it in.
Grading based on essay, quiz and discussion. The instruction of the essay can be more simplified,I did not find it easy to understand the criteria/requirements of the essay (which that particular essay counted near 20% of the grade) It is easy to be messed up with the essay. But the good thing is she provided some extra credit.
Overloaded descriptions of the assignments are easy to lose but can contact the Professor and ask for extra help. Tons of opportunities for extra credits (easy) and you can request an extension and resubmit one of your writing assignments. Homework was due on Sunday + Wednesday. The professor is strict on the right MLA citation. Excellent course!
I loved this class! Amy is very laid back and willing to help you. She gives out a lot of Extra Credit opportunities and constantly is looking for ways to make her class engaging! One big "Project" that you can do visual, paper, or website. Weekly Discussions about Critical Thinking. If you have any trouble just ask for help she's very willing!
Professor Leonard's class is very easy usually with many videos that explain writing techniques throughout the week. Then she has a discussion post due on Wednesdays and a short writing assignment due on Sundays. She is a pretty easy grader and mos the essays are short. The one big assignment is a research topic on a topic you choose at the end.
Excellent!
She was great during the regular quarter. But In the summer session, she warned students not to use AI but appeared to rely on it for grading. This led to errors and unfair point deductions, and she often couldn't explain the reasons. There was little to no feedback. However, she is generous with late work and extra credit.
