She's an okay teacher. She's willing to help, even though sometimes the help is not as helpful. A lot of work that is helpful for essays.
let me just quote her "i give you the maximum homework the university allows me to give you" you decide if you want this teacher...i wouldn't recommend it
she expects a lot, but actually its mainly outside stuff..the inside class activities are easy and she grades easy on EVerything...except the papers (but as long as you make up some personal secrets to tell her..you'll get a good grade)
very very easy, but a ton of groupwork! and i hate groupwork. she is an easy grader as long as you participate a lot. make sure that you tell her something ragic and personal in your essay and you will be sure to get a good grade. sidenote: it is not fun to look at her

accelerated eng sucks. dont take her if your takin accelerated eng. lots and lots of work. not worth it!!
The assignments seemed daunting at first, but turned out to be well thought out and manageable. She struck me as a very kind and intelligent human being and instructor and I gained a lot of knowledge and insight from her class. I absolutely reccommend her.
This class contains alot of work but overall I think you can gain alot from this class. She is helpful when you ask for help. This class help me boost up my confident because I think the hard work sort of pay off. I would recommend you giving it a try because trust I heard from many that this class was hard but ot's okay.
I took this class over the summer, and there was a lot of reading, but overall I really enjoyed the class! There is a lot of group work and artsy projects, which I enjoy but some people might not.
MOST HORRIBLE ENGLISH TEACHER EVER. SHE OVERLOADS YOU WITH TOO MANY ESSAYS AT ONCE. SHE DOESN"T EXPLAIN HOW SHE WANTS THE ESSAY FORMAT TO BE WRITTEN AND EXPECTS YOU TO DO IT THE WAY SHE WANTS IT TO BE DONE.

this class could be fun b/c the reading is fun...but she gives you so much work that it ruins the leaning experince. if you are taking a big load of units DON"T TAKE this class. it is not that i am afraid to work hard but this class was unreasonable in its expectations!!! if i could turn back time i would not take this class. busy work!!!
She may give alot of homework but overall alot of her work is really helpful...If you take the time to meet up with her for meetings for her office hours she can really help you..its important you express to her about how you really feel or else she might not realizes it...believe me she is a really great teacher when you really get to know her..

Ms.Love is a hard teacher who overloads you with work... she is very hard on you but only because she cares..she works very hard to help us the best she can..afterwhile she is very understanding once you get to know her better and when she know that you are a hard worker. be prepare.not the best teacher but you will learn some good tips from her..

Not the best teacher in the world, but she has some strenghts. she assigns essays every two or three weeks and online readings. Its a hard class but if you put in the hard work you'll see improvement in your writing.
too much HW! she doesn't listen to other's opinion. cannot miss any class. she likes to control the class. you have to try really hard in this class in order to pass. I regret to choose her class by her last name.

overloads you with homework! a new essay every 2 weeks. When you ask for help, she just makes you feel really stupid. She doesn't understand that you're a freshmen and that you're new to everything. She expects you to know everything that she knows!! DON'T TAKE HER!!!

WARNING: If u want to fail then take this class. Her class is super hard. Gettin a C was an A for us. It's impossible to get an A. The highest grade u will ever get is a B- after revising your essay so many times. She overloads u with so much work that'll take 5+ hours to do. If u plan taking her, i suggest u drop all your other classes. STAY AWAY!
Seriously, if you are planning on only taking one class a semester then you're golden if you choose this lady, but otherwise you're going to fail. sob stories don't work, tears mean nothing, and your hard work is honestly useless unless you're brilliant, but then why would you take English 104. good luck cause you'll need all you can get.

Amy Love is a Monster! She is such a horrible teacher. She barely helped me with my writing. She was so horible I eventually just stopped trying and gave up. Her 15 minute meetings are extremely annoying and uncomfortable. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER, YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE US.

She is not a good teacher nor a bad one she is just horrible at communicating with the class. Everyone hates her. She does not explain essay topics very well and they are stupid topics too. She marks down points for absences and she embarrasses students in front of other students. But if you all the work well you'll pass.

OK HERE IS A FAIR/TRUE REVIEW. Prof. Love gives quite a bit of work and can be a tough grader. She also can be unclear and odd at times. However, she drills grammar and essay structure a lot. If you try in class/at meetings with her you will improve as an essay writer. But if you want an easy A, she isn't the teacher for you.

Expects a lot and grades hard on essays. I improved a bit because of that, but the rest of the things we did in class were irrelevant, I guess? idk. Seemed like a waste of time. I had to have her for a year because I had to take 104&105 so if you're in the same boat, take a teacher you know you won't mind sticking around for a year.

Professor Love is a very awkward person who is quite unclear at times. Her essays are tough and I do sometimes go crying. There are three essays (but the last essay is 10 pages!) and no midterms and finals. She does give good feedback for your writing, but is harsh on the grading. You have to work really hard. If you want an easy A, not for you.

This teacher is absolutely terrifying. I HATED going to her class. Shes not open to ANYBODYS opinions what so ever. The material we review in class is useless. She wants you to write papers in a very specific way and although you get rewrites, getting an A is difficult. She says a C is a good grade in college. AVOID TAKING HER AT ALL COSTS.

By far one of the worst English teacher's I've had the misfortune of encountering. Every essay you write in this class is based off the reading from the assigned textbook...which she wrote. Beware-any opinion contrary to hers is quickly dismissed. I consider myself a decent writer & struggled to get a B in the class.
This semester has been the hardest i've experienced in college I was taking 16 units and working 20 hours a week. Contrary to what most have to say I thought she was a great teacher and gave in class time to work on essays. She was also understanding and was really kind when I felt overwhelmed with all my course work. She was extremely kind.

I found that she was rude and had unnecessary attitude that made me dread coming to class or a conference. She made students constantly feel stupid and that everything we do is completely wrong.
ok... amy love is not THAT bad. she's picky, thats for sure, but once you figure out what she's looking for, its all about giving her what she wants. 3 essays and a powerpoint presentation. ended up with a B+ in the class
This teacher was not the best Eng. teacher I've had. She can be very rude at times and is super picky. Even if you try hard, she still finds something that she wont like. I have always been good with my writing but she gave me a NC in this class. Then I took a different teacher the next semester and got an A!
Honestly, if you can avoid taking her class do it. But if you have to take her class, it's honestly not THAT bad. Yes, she's confusing and assigns a lot of pointless work but if you go to her office hours or ask for help individually (don't ask questions in front of the entire class!!!) then she usually explains herself pretty clearly.
Professor Love is a tough grader and requests student input but thinks students are wrong most of the time. 98% of this class is busy work with each small assignment having it's own online due date and grade. All assignments needed to pass, including the online "MyWritingLab" (need to buy with the book) quizzes. Get on her good side.
This teacher is so rude! Really closed minded about others opinions and will call you out on it in front of the whole class. The book we barely used was written by her... cost around $100. Just saying. Everything is online so going to class is pointless but mandatory. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Honestly, this class isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. If you go to her meetings (which are required) and just pay attention to what she says and edit your essay accordingly, you'll get a B for sure. Her policy is if you do all the work, you will AT LEAST get a B so for those who failed, they probably didn't do the work.
Shes a great teacher. Clear cut on everything. Go to her office hours meetings and complete your essays and you'll definitely improve on your writing and pass the class. She is always there to help you. I can't think of anything negative about her. She is very friendly, funny, and cooks well!
DO NOT TAKE HER OR DROP OUT AS SOON AS YOU CAN. She is awful. She doesn't know how to use a computer. She forgets EVERYTHING. She wrote notes on turnitin for me and didn't save it and I asked her about it and she blamed it on me and said that she doesn't type notes for people. She is not open to opinions and wants you to think the same as her.
Her class was extremely hard for me. Writing never was my best subject but I don't feel like I'm learning much in this class. She isn't very open to other opinions, besides her own, during class discussions. She sometimes gives an extension on assignments, but I would not recommend this class. There's 3 essays and they're worth most of your grade.

You don't have to buy any books for this class all the reading materials for the course are articles and she'll post them on iLearn for you. She's really helpful and straight to the point we wrote 3 major papers and around 10 one page responses. She wants nothing more than for you to take advantage of her office hours, it's actually mandatory!
Ms. Love is a reasonable, kind, and caring professor. Ms. Love makes her way to help her students her first priority when teaching. I do not regret having her as my English professor and would love to have her again in the future!
Stay away from her class if you are actually looking to learn about writing. The class focuses HEAVILY on social justice and only on that; it is a social justice class much more than an English class. She is an okay teacher but she only wants to read and hear about what she wants to hear and read about. I hate this class.

Amy Love was my first college professor. Although people claim she is horrible, she isn't that bad. There is a lot of writing in her class and a minimum of 500 words on her homework assignments. Only take her class if you want be challenged and grow in your writing. After taking her class I can honestly say it is easier writing more for others.
I have taken English courses in 3 different universities and I can attest that this class will change the way you read. You can either do the work and question the fundamentals of language or continue believing everything you read. I think people rate this class poorly because of their fear to think critically. This class will challenge that.
Amy Love is not as bad of a teacher as my review says but she is a very big social justice warrior and if your idea is not the same as hers she will reject the idea and not let you do it. The class is also very social justice oriented which I did not like. The only way I would recommend her is if you love social justice.

The class is easy not a lot of work is done in or outside the classroom. Talks a lot about politics and her point of views. The class revolves around social justice. And you have to do community service.

One of the worst professors at SF state. She is very confusing as to what she wants. During my final paper, I was so so so confused at what she wanted from me, and asking her made me even more puzzled. I have never in my life received less than an A in English until her class. Her assignments are pointless and lazy, and lectures are unplanned.
Professor Love has difficulty connecting with students of color. She's a white feminist and it shows. She needs to listen more to people whose struggles and stories she appears to care so much about. She has stopped learning, opting instead for micro-aggressions and forcing her own opinions onto students. If you are a POC don't take her class.

A solid professor. Love gives a huge low-risk workload of writing assignments designed to improve your writing. Her love of social justice bleeds into her course material. You're expected to share her passion. !! FOR ENG 214 !! Love issues Community Service Learning (volunteer work). You will need to dedicate 2hs a week in order to pass.

You are forced to do 20 hours of ONLINE CSL, she's too lazy to grade until the last week, when she "teaches" she just reads the assignment and then sends us off. So much arbitrary work that she has us do for no reason. DO NOT TAKE!!
If you plan to take this class while theres a whole pandemic going on, please dont. This class is stressful, and it requires a lot of work. Even community hours! And for what? I strongly recommend a different teacher bc shes a waste of time.
