Dr. Newhouse is THE BEST History Professor! She is kind, organized, informative, and has the most interesting lectures. The workload is most definitely doable. She cares about her students learning, as she is accessible outside of class if needed. Very helpful! Truly an outstanding professor! HIGHLY recommend taking her class.
Great professor! very down to earth and honest with you. She definitely encourages participation, but she doesn't force you to participate. There are 3 essays, including the final essay, and 3 major tests, including the final. There are two major projects which are fairly easy. She does grade you on attendance.
I took Dr. Newhouse for hist 1301 & 02. She has been one of the best professors I've ever had here at LSC. She's very inspirational and knowledgeable, and she makes the material interesting and engaging. Dr. Newhouse truly cares about her students and goes above and you can tell she loves teaching. Take her before her class fills up!
You can not cheat in this class. She likes to do group assignments instead of reading a whole book which I like. The final is what you learn for the last month of the semester, she tells the truth even if it hurts which it might for some people. Honestly if you do the work and study for the class it's really easy.
Lots of homework. Not a super tough grader. I honestly don't have much to say besides that she's an alright professor. 3/5.
She is very understanding she just gives online class so much more work than in person her notes and quizzes doesnt make any sense even if you have notes she provided. The test are stupid long and most of the questions are about her video lectures that are an hour or longer Take this class if you have alot of time.
Professor Newhouse was a great professor when I took her in the Fall. Great lectures where you actually learn and are free to ask questions, and videos/notes are online if you miss out that day. Exams aren't complicated, especially since they're open note. Her coursework is simple, but it's 1000% not meant for you to complete at the last second.
Most I've learned in a history class ever. Her lectures are simply amazing, and I found myself very invested in her teachings and looking forward to her class. The only critique I have is that she can be quite rude at times. I'm not sure if it is because of my class or if it's a bad semester, but I am slightly afraid to ask her questions.
My class was music thru history, which wasn't advertised before I signed up. Only allows HER notes packet. Vendetta against ChatGPT, so no outside sources. Nice lady, but I hated her class. You don't need the textbook. Midterm essay & final essay + 2 long tests for both (mult. choice, T/F, short answer). She's passionate, but I learned nothing.
One of the best history professors I have taken. She emphasizes making historical connections rather than memorizing names and dates. Her lectures are very content heavy, but she gives you a notes packet to fill out which helps. 2 major exams throughout the semester. Decent amount of homework, but it helps when studying for exams. Highly recommend!
AMAZING!! The workload is somewhat heavy, but you'll get that with any history class. Genuinely one of the best classes I've ever taken. Her lectures are so entertaining, and she teaches real history which makes the class even more intriguing. I was never bored in her class/doing assignments and looked forward to every lecture!!
She is a good professsor if you enjoy history. Extremely though grader and I would not be taking her class again! She will dock points if you are 3 minutes late to her class. Is not too understanding when it comes to issues outside of her class. She is a good person I just would not take her again.
I love Dr. Newhouse!! Her lectures are not only interesting and engaging, but they are also humorous. Dr. Newhouse is easy to approach for help and is always there to give you a hand. Her classes are fun, and her grades are not too easy or too hard. She offers 1 on 1 appointment for those wanting advice on assignments. Very helpful and caring100/10
Dr. Newhouse is an AMAZING professor if you're looking for a class that has easily obtainable information and a class that's easy to follow along in. Her class is EXTREMELY organized and I'd say the only way to fall behind is if you don't show up for class. Her lectures are not boring at all and she is a quick grader. Make sure to do your readings!
I took her six week course but I wish I had taken a longer course so I could listen to more her lectures. She made assignments fun and engaging. She is a delight and I wish I could take another one of her classes.
By far one of my favorite professors!!! She is strict but in a good way. You technically don't have to buy the textbook since you can just borrow it from the library. She allows a one paper review sheet with her exams and helps any way possible. she truly cares about her students and it very down to earth. Don't skip her class though.
Took her since Fall 2021. There are two midterm exams and one final. Each contains multiple choice, true-false, and typing questions. Dr. Newhouse is so strict that if any student attempts to search answers on the internet rather than from her notes, she will give them zeros on their assignments. So I'd be aware of that when necessary.
Easily one of the best proffesors I have had at Lonestar I took her in the fall and I will be taking her in the spring. The lectures are actually intresting and she is not a super tough grader.
Engaging history lectures that bring the subject to life. Workload is manageable with prep using resources like unstuck study. Structured but fair grading. Highly recommend for an informative and rewarding experience.
Class was 20-25 lessons/quizzes, 2 tests, a 2-3 paged essay, and a final. Video lessons are easy, usually about an hour long: I use speed controllers so not bad. She gives well-made notes for every quiz. The tests are harder, but open note! Essay is based on 1 of the books: READ IT WELL. Mine was good so my final was just collecting history memes.
The best history professor you can take. Notes are easy to follow but she tends to add things not on her outline to the lecture so write everything she says. Ample opportunity for extra credit. She cares about your writing.
Dr. Newhouse uses the theme of music to connect with students and history. From my experience, she is very flexible, but she may seem like someone very hard on her students, which she does because she cares. She does everything out of love, showing she truly cares about the well-being of her students, allowing them to express themselves.
Overall good professor and no actual complaints. She is very outgoing and make history fun. You can tell she really cares about her students learning. I will admit though towards finals she does assign heavy assignments + the final test itself so it does get a little stressful.
She articulates the history so well and loves to have class interaction and questions. If you show up to class and write notes you will have a good grade. If you are struggling all you need to do is communicate with her. Her assignments are pretty easy as long as you follow directions. Highly recommend taking her class. Tests are open note.
Professor Newhouse is a friendly person, I chose to take her class because she used to come to my HIST 1301 class when I didn't know who to choose to take for HIST 1302. Her lectures are very easy to understand and as long as you come to her class every day, take notes, and pay attention to her instructions you will have good grades !
Great teacher the course has a lot of homework but if you turn in everything and listen she gives you the answers to everything and theres no way anyone should fail this class
If you want to be an expert in History, take her class. If you want an easy A, don't. Heavy reading. Lots of assignments. Lots of quizzes. Took her 6-week course which consist of 6 Attendance & Online Participation posts + 2 replies, 26 short quizzes, 7 essays (5 paragraph format), 2 tests (50 questions + 1 short essay), and 1 heavy research paper
I had Dr. Newhouse for 1301 and 1302, which were easy classes if you attended her class, took notes from the lecture, and read outside of her class because there could be a quiz on them (which there weren't a lot of). Her class isn't boring, but she makes it as entertaining as possible for a history class. She does care about her students' success.
Dr. Newhouse is a great professor who genuinely cares about the wellbeing of her students. She wants to see them succeed and is always available for you to reach out to her. Be prepared to take lots of notes every class. Write down everything she says and not just what she writes on the board in order to understand everything. She is great though.
Interesting lecture and class! but you woll have work to do
I took this professor for HIST 1301-1302. Her class will be “somewhat easy” if you come to class, but she does post notes and videos on D2L. She writes notes on the white board, so she is easy to follow. There will be reading quizzes most days when you walk into class. Test are open note for the last 30 min, and quizzes are open note online. 100/10
Prof. Newhouse is a really good professor! She gives lots of extra credit opportunities, and she made her own course packet, which is really nice because everything you need is in it.
She is an amazing professor. She taught in a way that made you laugh and understand history on a deeper level. In this class you do have to write two essays, but they relatively easy. 10/10 recommend.
Dr. Newhouse is a great professor. She teaches through stories alongside lecture which give you a good laugh and help you remember the material. Would definitely have taken her again. Fairly easy homework and will usually go deep into the details of major assignments a couple weeks before due.
Overall a good teacher ,no complains you work for your grade .
Dr. Newhouse was the best professor I've had at Lonestar. Her lessons are really engaging and easy to follow along with due to the notes she writes on the board. HIST 1302 includes two tests, essays, and major quizzes each along with 10 smaller quizzes and 20 participation grades. The class material isn't hard. As long as you show up, you'll pass.
She's very helpful when it comes to the essays, if you're unsure of something let her know and she can cooperate and give some hints! She has everything online, teaches her own way, has her own textbook, no other books are required.
Dr. Newhouse was a phenomenal professor. I enjoyed taking her courses. She is a great lecturer and is very engaging. She provided a lot of extra credit opportunities to help her students succeed in her course. Take Dr. Newhouse, you will not regret it!
Overall great class, teacher is super kind and fun! Would 100% recommend.
Excellent class, excellent professor, a class you won't ever forget. Just read and keep up with assignments. Also it's a music course so gotta study it to understand what's going on. That's all folks, plus write well that is on exams and major assignments
Amazing professor, she has clear instructions and would take her again. she makes the vibe feel good and loves connecting with students.
Dr. Newhouse is amazing! Her lectures are super engaging, and she is very passionate about the material she teaches. Her notes are very straightforward and her essays are structured to offer you tons of support. She mostly covers larger, thought-provoking concepts instead of making you memorize dates. Her class is super enjoyable and entertaining!
I love Dr.Newhouse, I had her for two semesters and I wish she taught more history classes. Her way of teaching is very clear and is a process that can be easily understood, assignments are relatively easy you just have to complete them with time they are more intricate and requires a lot of comprehension of material and reading.Favorite professor!
I highly recommend taking her class. Her teaching style is engaging, and she provides clear explanations that make complex topics easier to understand. She is available at all times.
Dr. Newhouse (Dr is important) defines what a professor should be. She is a fantastic professor who is not only a teacher, but a friend, who will leave a sentimental feeling when you leave her class is very understanding when it comes to grading, the workload isn't heavy, just don't slack
Professor Amy Newhouse was amazing, she always found a way to make her lectures fun and interactive. She brings out physical examples of history which is really cool; her lectures/notes are very througly explained and she gives great assignment feedback.
Loved her lectures they were very memorable and interesting. Tests and homework were
Loved her lectures. Her tests and homework were easy. But try to not take this class at the same time as an english class because she gives 2-3 essays.
I like that she makes note packets, which really help with tests (3), she lets you use them during tests except the last one. The final is reading a 65 pg packet, annotating it, & writing an essay in class. If you want to actually learn, I would take her, but if you just want credit & an easy grade, I wouldn't, this class is very assignment-heavy.
This class is a good experience. She incorporates music into the lectures to help better understand the material and stay engaged. Although it is enjoyable with the music, it's not meant to be easy; she takes the subject seriously. She sets high expectations for everyone in and outside of class. Also, be prepared for essays and short essays on test
