She is so nice, and an easy marker excpet fooled us on the final...don't just study her exam outline! Otherwise be prepared for semi-surprise projects!
great prof a lil hard to follow but
SHE IS SO GREAT just go to every class and study during the term SPECIALLY STUDY THE FINAL SAMPLE WHICH SHE IS GONE GIVE IT TO U GUYS
She is really a nice prof. If you have any question, just go ask her.
a decent prof, and a well structured course
nice prof.
Her english is less than mediocre, shes difficult to understand, her examples are pure variables. On a Positive note, shes and easier marker. Go to her lectures because, she CLAIMS the text book is wrong. If you never took stats in high school, get a tutor.
She is nice, approachable. Interesting topics as well.
The course is very well structured in that she covers the topics she lists in the outline as well as the material in the book. The quizes she gives can be a bit tricky but are fair. As far as marks, she doesn't like failing students and does everything she can to award marks or pass students if they are struggling.
You have to read the chps before class to fully understand or else you'll be confused. Amy is soooo nice though. Gave us so many chances to increase our marks (bonus marks galore!) And the final was just like the quizzes. She cares about students and encourages us to do well. She's great
Easy course, but you need to work out.
ecn is what it is...read the book and do the recommended exercises. Amy Peng has a super passion for what she teaches and is always more than willing to help out when you request it. It's true she does give many opportunities to gain or increase marks. Just do your work and ask questions along the way.
By Farrrrr, one of the best professors at Ryerson. Very passionate about her work and best part is...always there for her office hours! Better part...no one ever went to them so I took full advantage. She's definitely going to be one of my mentors for Grad. School
she's is SUPER passionate about what she teaches, you can tell by the way she teaches and explains. she gave her own slides, which were good. OMG, the final exam was SOOOOO easy, I think she just wanted to pass everyone. She gives quizzes every 2 weeks, which is actually a good thing, because it forces you to keep up in class.
ms. peng is the best.
Nice person. Extremely willing to help anyone who asks. Keep up with online assignments. Unnecessary to attend class.
Professor Peng is super nice and creates many opportunities to boost your mark. I kinda felt sorry for her though, because she is passionate about her material but the classes are boring. Make sure to study past midterms, they help.
First teacher to put me to sleep in class. EVER!.
Overall great teacher! She's involved and definitely still has the passion for economics! C'mon it's economics! She's very helpful when you have a question even when its a 500 word email. She demonstrates a clear understand. Her lectures are not required but she shares experiences with the class.
Boring Class! but very helpful and so nice!
Teaching a required course to a class of uninterested students is tough already. I think the material is both painful to teach and painful to learn. I really do wish she were more assertive in controlling the noise level in the classroom...she is quite timid. Tests are fine as long as you practice, practice, practice!
She is excellent at teaching the material but hardly anyone shows up to class. It's really boring and dry stuff. She is very helpful both in-class, after-class and through emails. Avg. for midter, = 70%. Not bad, but I hope she doesn't kill us in the final exam. We'll see...
Learnt most of the material through online quizzes. Lectures were mainly an enforcement of the readings/online assignments, and were really tough stay interested through. She's very knowledgeable and helpful though, but when it came down to the lectures the acoustics and the students talking made it impossible to understand/stay interested.
Uninspiring, typical powerpoint professor, basically one of the dime-a-dozen prof's at Ryerson. Hello? I can read powerpoint slides too!
Amy Peng is one of the best macro teachers, if you have a choice choose her. She is extremely helpful, her slides are clear and quizzes are helpful for midterm and final. So if you want to do well in macro I would suggest that you take Amy Peng.
doesnt explain the material well
Sitting in her class right now, extremley bored. Her lectures are basically just paraphrasing what is in the textbook, so if you read the chapter, it doesnt really matter if you go to class or not. Just had the midterm really easy 85%, avg 70%. All you need to do to prepare is just do the online quizzes and review the powerpoints, nothing too hard.
Lectures are the most boring wastes of time ever. Not even exagerating, it's bloody terrible. I don't understand how she is even a prof. She cannot teach at all you can't understand a word she is saying. Had to teach myself the whole course.
She is very helpful. I emailed her many times and went to her office hour, she always helped me a great deal.
She can be funny sometimes. Class is good though not great. Lyryx is a good help. Her son is very cute!
I have taken economics in high school and I really like her class. She is very helpful and wants her student to do well.
Does NOT explain things clearly. Attendance is not mandatory. Her PPs are straight from the textbook which she posts online. It is easier for you to teach yourself the course, shes too confusing !
Great prof, classes are right out of the textbook so no need to attend, BUT SHEs so nice, very helpful, great lady and looks to help her students get a good grade. Ps. shes stylish
you need to work hard to get a good grade. She does not bell curve. She is helpful though, try to get as much help as you can. After the exam, the grade is final.
Good lecture and tries to be as helpful as possible. Has really good lecture notes compared to the other proffs.
Her PowerPoint slides are good. Her lectures are boring. But she is very helpful and clear when you ask her about concepts, one-on-one. Midterm and exams are based on the slides and online homework- just practice, review the slides and ask for help when appropriate. This course isn't easy, but hard work pays off!
She is really helpful, and is the only prof I had that made extensions on lyryx.
I dont recommend this prof at all! I cant understand a word she says she stutters so much. Week 5 into the class, havent had to touch the book but getting 100% on Lyryx quizzes. Take her if you can self teach yourself the course, ask help from friends if needed and have no other better alternatives.
no need to buy the textbook, read the lecture note and go to class.
I've only been to 2 classes (one class was the first class, second was midterm) and I ended up with an A. There is no need to go to class because the powerpoints are AMAZING. I didn't use the book either; don't buy it. Class is boring because she just reads off the slides. Amazing slides.
im at a loss of words. She must be the worst professor i have ever had in my lifetime. I actually enjoyed economics until i had Amy Peng. She is like watching ice melt she makes the course so boring. She brings Ryerson's image down with her terrible teaching methods. The economic department should be disgraced to have someone like Amy Peng.
She answered 50+ emails from mine some with very long answers. She really reached out to help students.
I don't recommend to take her. This was not an easy course and going to lectures are a waste of time. It is hard to follow what she is saying.Overall the class seemed to be self taught. Powerpoints were very helpful and the textbook was good for re-enforcing the material. Lyrix was very helpful.
she is a good proff but the exam was really hard. her lecture notes are good and you dont really need to attend class because she reads them. overall she is a very dedicated person and always willing to help students
Had her again for 204. Her PPT notes summarizes all you need to know. Text is still a good supplementary source. Class is chatty at times- it's economics, what did you expect? She's also willing to help students understand the material. Lyryx and her practice quizzes are very useful in preparing for the midterm and final- both are quite fair.
had her for both 104 and 204, very helpful professor and interesting lectures.
Amy does a good job for such a content-filled course. Lectures have a lot of examples, and a lot of clear explanation of the examples. Also it's very good that at the beginning of the lecture, she goes over lyryx questions that people email her about having a problem with.
awesome prof.
Sort of an odd professor. I feel bad that she has to teach her class in an auditorium, because you cannot ask questions and its ridiculously loud. Perhaps if Ryerson wasn't so pathetic at times, this class would've been more engaging.
AMAZING Prof. Helps with anything she can. A good class and powerpoints are put up after. Gives extra assignments for extra marks. Nice lady.
THE PROF IS OKAY. SHE CANT TEACH THAT WELL. RATHER MAKE THE CLASS TOO BORING WITH 50 SLIDES ...HER VIDEOS ARE INTERESTING. EXAMS ARE HARD. I THINK HER ACCENT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND THE CLASS MORE.
Amy is a good prof. Knows her stuff and enthusiastic about the material. Only problem is that she has difficulty keeping the class quiet 'cause she's too nice! Recommended.
Amy is a tough prof. The final exam was brutal. There was some question which we never cover on review questions or in class. I hope she bell curves the mark :( she is helpful too. She replies on time in email.
Good Prof; definitely would take again. She has a bit of an accent which can been hard to understand at times but has really thorough slides which help a a lot. She also posts old test questions making studying easier. Mid-Terms and Final are difficult though and you need to really understand your stuff!
Boring teacher, fell asleep in class all the time. She knows her stuff, so I would encourage you to listen to her. Good PowerPoint notes, easy midterms. Midterms are done online which is a bonus. Easy class, never listened and did well.
Get ready to get bored with her 50+ slides. Hard midterms & final. She has an accent which makes ur life more difficult. But she is helpful.
Her midterms and final were not easy! Fell asleep several times in her class, however she is very quick at answering emails and if you try you will get a decent mark in class.
Boring lectures with tons of ppt slides. She tries her best to explain everything but her online midterms were extremely hard and unfair. The final exam was easy and most of it was based on the first two midterms but overall she is hard. She covered the hardest topics during the last lectures which made this class even more harder.
she is very helpful and sweet, but the material is a bit dry so make sure you read the chapter before class so you don't feel Sleepy, her exams are fair but you need to make sure you study the questions she assigned, she replies fast to emails, overall study hard and you wont get below B
Great class. Very interesting topics. She is very nice and helpful.
Amy specializes in labour ecn so she can teach this class well. Unfortunately, like her other classes, she gets quite boring in her lectures. She is extremely friendly and will help you a lot if you talk to her 1on1. If you take your time to do the assigned questions, you will be heavily rewarded with a good grade (as her tests are based on them).
I regret taking her.. she goes around the topic and her powerpoint's are complex and horrible in my opinion. She makes things more complicated than they already are. Even though she's friends with KAM, doesn't mean much.
she's super nice and helpful. her lectures are clear and the powerpoint slides are good.
Like all other professors she knows her stuff. HOWEVER, she speeds through the material without double checking of the class's understanding, as well, she'll stay on one slide, talk about the material, and then skip 10 slides (which is what she talked about) giving no time for the students to take in the subject. Overall, very incoherent.
She is super fair with extensions and is very willing to help, however she has an accent, and due to this and the fact that she speeds through materials and is NOT thorough in her explanations, I find it easier to sit at home and list through the material myself. Is this right? No, but because of the weekly online quizzes the course is manageable.
The material is dry but she tried to make it interesting. Very helpful professor.
She has a little bit of an accent which sometimes makes it hard to understand her because she talks so fast sometimes, but overall great prof always giving multiple examples trying to clarify. Very understanding prof and gives extensions if you really need it on assignments. She tried really hard to make a horrible subject interesting. Okay job
She is passionate about teaching and willing to help students. Take this class if you want to learning something. Final exam is hard.
Took both 104 and 204 at same time, so I got a chance to compare Amy and Kam. They are in different teaching style, but both are knowledgeable and genuine. Got A+ for both without textbook, used notes only. To truly understand the models and concepts rather than just memorize them was the only thing I suggest.
Amy Peng is an amazing professor. She really wants her students to do well. She explains concepts in depth, and doesn't go on to new information until its clear. I highly recommend taking one of her courses.
Great professor. Econ is a pretty dry topic in my opinion, but having a professor that genuinely cares for their students success takes off a bit of the edge. She usually just reads her slides, but as long as you follow along and read the textbook, you should do well! also, she's understanding if you need an extension or aren't feeling well!
great prof, she extended lyryx lab due dates at the end of semester, very nice
Dr. Amy Peng is an excellent prof. She cares about the material and explains it clearly. She is straightforward and fair about teststest content. She has changed the way I feel about economics; it may have just been added to my shortlist of possible majors.
Dr. Peng is clear, fair, and it's obvious that she takes time and effort to present the material in an understandable way. She is a straightforward and thoughtful prof.
She's a really nice prof, you will hear a lot of stories about her 6 year old and 3 year old tho..........
She is a great prof. Too bad everyone talks through her class like a bunch of morons. I think she takes extra time to give us useful hmwk questions and practice quizzes. I really appreciate that.
She's very very helpful if you email her or got to office hours as well as understanding about the labs, offering extensions. She includes many examples n lectures to help clarify problems. My problem with her is that in lectures she moved slides too quickly making it hard to follow
Amy is so nice and goes out of her way to make sure students do well. She really wants everyone to do well. She was very clear in her lectures. At the end of the term she gave everyone the opportunity to get 100% on their online homework, really nice of her. Overall, I would recommend her.
Knows her stuff. Her exam questions are more practical than theoretical, which is a big plus. Also posts her lectures online and goes through them slowly enough that everyone can understand. Overall, great prof.
Take it with ECN104 for 1st semester, got A+ for ECN204, need textbook sometimes, e-book is enough. Amy is helpful and easygoing, help me do better in final and gave me A+. Need quite some effort in this course, especially for those interested in economy. May suggest not take this course for elective if not major in economy or relative programs.
Amy was helpful and made sure we had lots of good practice q's. She put in a lot of effort to prepare us for her exams. She has an accent and speaks very clearly, I understand every word. But the tone of her voice is soft which sometimes makes me sleepy - even though she is good at lecturing. If you attend class, you won't really need the book.
Amazing Professor. She uses great analogies and she is very helpful to all students. Her extra practice quizzes were very helpful.
Thank goodness I got Amy! She was really funny and helped make a boring class into something bearable. ECN is not my strong suit but she made the class somewhat fun and interesting. Take her if you get the chance, also she's really helpful during office hours!
Class was very easy. She gives you very helpful practice questions for the mid term and final exam. I didn't even need to buy the books because her powerpoints were more than enough. Would highly recommend if you want to study independently. Easy A if you put forth just a little bit of effort to understand the material.
Great prof. Explains concepts well and genuinely cares about the students. Would recommend.
Amy was a good professor. She is very helpful and provides feedback on the essay and can help with explaining concepts. The essay is not that complicated, but use a lot of graphs and economic concepts. The exam wasn't that bad besides a few questions and the weekly questions are fairly easy along with the participation. Overall a very good prof.
smart. hot. funny. caring. motivated. good lecturer. fair tests. always at office.
Amy is definitely one of the sweetest and most supportive professors you will find at Ryerson. She is always willing to help those in need and is beyond approachable. I recommend her classes to anyone as she will go beyond her call to ensure you succeed.
the best professor at ryerson university.
she's a great professor. funny. easy on the eyes. wants you to succeed. projects are not really hard.
amy is a good professor. she teaches you exactly what you need to know to do well on the tests and the assignments. the course isn't easy but it's good and will help you if you want to really learn how to do economics.
She is literally the best!! If she see that you are a hard worker, you would pass with at least a B-. The term paper is 40%, so do good on that and the labs you will be fine. This semester (fall 2018) was her last one class for at least 4 months. So if you can wait then yeah
Not only is she an amazing professor but shes also an amazing person. Shes very caring and wants you to learn. This course is very tough especially if you arent very keen to excel or R. Shes very understanding & knows how complex this course can be so shes very lenient with marking. I learned a lot & now Im a pro at excel & R thanks to Amy
she is so amazing!! take any class with her, she so kind and helpful the class was hard especially if you've never used programs like R or much of excel but she'll literally let you sit in her office and help you with everything!!!! love herrr soooo much!!!!!1
honestly her teaching confuses me sm. like i read the textbook and understand all the concepts and then i go to her class and i get SO CONFUSED AND LOST. her tests arent easy thats for sure. she replies fast to emails and offers help outside of class. i wouldn't take her again but if you have to its fine jus read the textbook and watch youtube vids
She may have a little accent but overall is such a good prof, she is really good at explaining concepts and making sure you understand.
She was so accommodating and incredibly helpful when you ask for help, she will make time to talk to you outside of class so my biggest advice is that you need to ask any questions you have! She does want you to do well and figure things out, but you can honestly do so well if you take initiative and she is incredibly caring.
She's a pretty solid prof. Helps you understand the content and cares about your success.
shes a very sweet prof and she replies to emails very quickly. However, she overcomplicates concepts too much, so make sure to read the textbook or learn those concepts from another source to really understand them.
Really great prof for upper courses. The class is project heavy but she is very helpful and clear with what she is looking for. Just make sure to keep up and put in the effort for all the weekly components, if you start the data writing steps late you'll screw yourself. Also, she answers emails quickly, even on weekends
This is a very project heavy class with lots of homework. Amy is extremely helpful and detailed in what she is looking for. She answers emails very quickly and is a fair marker. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend it for questions. Keep up with the weekly assignments and you'll be fine.
I realize now looking back that it was an honor taking a course with Dr. Peng and Dr. Kam. They did the course together by breaking the parts of the course apart evenly. Now that I have taken more courses, I see how rare they were in their ability.
Dr. Amy Peng is an amazing professor who cares about her students. This class may be difficult if you do not have general excel and coding skills and will require a little extra work on your end. Amy is available to help and is very responsive to questions, emails and feedback. The course material was broken down to easily digest. Take this class!
professor peng is a wonderful instructor. i have had her for multiple courses and she puts 100% effort into the courses and that's why she asks us to do the same.
wonderful instructor who cares more about her students than her own free time. would take anything she teaches at ryerson. she should teach teachers how to teach.
Prof Peng is actually a pretty good professor. Super helpful outside of class and willing to help her students with the term paper and everything with the coding language R (most students don't know R anyways, so don't worry about that). Only complaint is that she doesn't bell curve and doesn't give lots of time for the tests.
