The class is amaizng..even if its a big class..i lov the expirements she shows us!!..and she is a gr8 teacher!! Relaly like the way she teaches :)
She really knows her stuff, and she tries really hard to make sure that you understand it as well. Going to her helped me so much on the tests. I understood everything so much better.
Awsome teacher
The most wonderful teacher I have ever had! She makes everything so easy to learn, and she teaches in a way that makes it difficult not to understand. I would highly recommend her to anyone!
Very easy to understand. If you have a question she will be sure to clear it up for you.
Amy is an excellent professor! I had her for 141 and understood everything she taught. I don't like chemistry, but she teaches the information so that you can understand, and is always willing to explain again if someone has a question. I definitely recommend her if you are taking 141 OR 143.

Really enthusiastic about chemistry, and more than happy to help you out. Great teaching style.
Excellent professor! Very good at explaining and simplifying concepts, always willing to help, and her exams aren't too difficult. I wish every professor was at least half as good as her! God bless Dr. Amy Pollock!
Dr Pollack was very helpful and available even though there were over 1000 students in the class. She is very good at chemistry and did a great job explaining the subject. Dr Pollack is the best professor in the chemistry department. I highly recommend her!
I simply LOVED this professor! She is very clear, organized, helpful, enthusiastic, hard-working...etc,and I could go on for ever! If you have any trouble understanding the material or doing homework GO to her office and she will help you. Believe me when I say she is the sweetest professor you'll ever meet! I am really going to miss her!
Dr. Pollock is a great prof. She is very clear and helpful. It is a pretty difficult class but it's chemistry. Go to class, take good lecture notes, start studying for the exams ahead of time, and do the practice exams!!! I would definately recommend this professor.
Decent prof. First time she taught the class. It can get boring especially in the afternoon. Notes are basically the same as the lecture notes. Use the study guide and do as many practice exams as possible way before the exams and you will ace the class or you can easily scrape by with a 3.0 by doing average on exams and all OWL questions
Jeez... I have no idea how she got such a good score but I seriously disagree with most of what was said about her. She goes out of her way to teach things differently than the way most people were taught in high school. She over-complicates simple concepts, and the exams are absolute nightmares.
great! explained organic chemistry really clearly!!
Best professor ever
Prof Pollock is an awesome teacher! People who got laduca or hunter were jealous of me because I had the best chem prof. She is super clear in teaching and does a great job explaining concepts. The course itself if pretty tough, i had to work REALLY hard to get a 3.0
She explains everything very clearly, but in a monotone voice. I had the 4:10 lecture and needed an energy drink to actually focus on what she was saying.
Great Professor, I hate the subject but she got me a 4.0
This chemistry is hard, but Pollock makes it look so simple. She's very clear and her notes are so easy to follow. I loved the way she taught. My best advice is pay attention in class, then when you get home, do the Exam and Solutions qustions you can do. Good luck!
LOVE pollock!!! the class was difficult though but she is a great teacher very thorough and slow with the material and always willing to help out no matter when you need it... she is a great teacher but it doesn't mean slacking the class is a lot of effort!
Professor was great. She did a good job explaining the material thoroughly and in a way that was beneficial for everyone. I see she has quite a good rating here, and it's for a good reason. Highly recommended.
I'm awful at Chemistry and she made it understandable for me.
She was very helpful and clear. The class requires a lot of work, but she does everything she can to help
Great professor!
She is a clear, helpful teacher, but the class itself is hard. The tests are hard no matter what professor you have. I would highly recommend buying the lecture notes and practice exams, but the chemistry text book isn't neccessary.
She does a wonderful job of explaining things in a way that is easily understandable which is important with a class like chemistry. Don't waste any money on the textbook though, I 4.0ed it without opening it. Buy the lecture notes, the exam and solutions book and attend class regularly and you will be successful in this class.
Awesome teacher! I switched from another prof and my grades increased dramatically, she is very helpful, her lectures are awesome and she has great office hours! Would recommend for any CEM class at MSU
Pollock is a really good professor, very clear in her lectures and the best teacher for chemistry. If you don't get her, you'll regret it!
She understands the material very well and presents it in a very clear way.
Never opened the text book for the class because she explained the material so well.
Explained the material very clearly.
I found this class to be extremely hard but I also didn't go to class much. Just do all the practice exams, go to class, and make sure you know what you're doing after each lecture. If you do this, a 3.0 should always be possible
The best professor I have had so far. I didn't do so well in chemistry in high school, but she explained it so well and was very clear and easy to understand, and I received a 4.0. She is definitely one of the best professors on campus.
The BEST professor I have ever had. Extremely clear and easy to understand. She explains chemistry so clearly and easily I received A's on the exams, when I never thought that'd be possible. DEFINITELY push to have her.
I was TERRIFIED to take CEM141 at MSU just because of all the hype over it. I had a different prof but ended up going to Pollock's lectures. Best decision I've ever made. She made the material super easy and broke it down to a point that you could easily understand. Go to her lecturse even if you don't have her. She's the only reason I did so well
Pollock it by far the best professor i've ever had. The class is tough, but she's amazing
Amazing. I have the highest respect for her. She knows her field in great depth, is crystal clear in everything she says, and brings her A game to every single lecture. She is the best professor I have ever had by leaps and bounds. Do whatever you can to take her.
Mrs. Pollock is a great teacher. But you still have to work for your grade. Her great lectures and office hours add to the success of the grade you earn. Do not slack off!
Pollock is an amazing lecturer. She really knows how to explain things well. People skip their lectures with other CEM professors just to go to her's. Highly recommended to take her
This class is extremely difficult, especially if you've never taken hard science classes since this is a mostly Freshmen class. If you're willing to work for it, you can get a good grade. A 4.0 is anywhere above an 80% which is not too difficult to obtain. This professor makes the class a lot easier.
She does a great job of doing examples, and explaining chemistry clearly to the students
She is very clear with her explanations and examples, and her homework is very fair and usually short (if you understand what's going on). She, understandably, has a dislike for students talking during the class, but she encourages questions to be ask directly to her if there is any confusion. It is a 'hard science class, so expect it to be so.
Hands down one of the best profs I have had at state so far.
Very clear when teaching, best cem prof to have
Great professor! Explains things in a way that are clear and helpful. Chemistry is just a hard subject in general but she makes it easier. Whatever you do, buy the green book of notes and the blue exam booklet, they save lives. Expect homework you do have to do OWLs but they help you lots. If you get another prof, come to Pollock's lectures.
Good teacher - One of the best I have had for chemistry courses. Teaching style is understandable and helpful, as well as taught sometimes from a student perspective. Missing a lecture could be bad, provided you don't read the section. Good office hours, too.
I needed tutoring to pass, but I wouldn't take this class with any other professor. She uses relevant examples to explain and makes things easier to understand. You will DEFINITELY want to take notes in addition to the lecture notebook. Make sure to do multiple practice exams and take the mock exams. The textbook itself wasn't terribly helpful.
terrible professor! really mean and not helpful
Dr. Pollock is an excellent professor. Chemistry is a tough subject but her lectures are very easy to follow and engaging. She definitely gives you all of the tools to succeed in Chem. You still have to do a good amount of studying, but if you use the mock exams while studying you're golden for the exams.
Most understanding professor I've had at MSU. Explains the material well but you still need to study.
I loved this class. I came in hating Chemistry and now I love it. She is a passionate professor who wants you to do well. She is an amazing professor and explains everything so clearly. Sit in the front and ask questions and she we will like you. I would take this class again.
I had her for CEM 142 and let me tell you, she was a great prof to have. She'll make you work for that 4.0, but I did so well on all the exams that the 75% I got on the final didn't touch my 4.0. If you do the reviews and pay attention in class, you'll do fine.
Amazing professor & very clear for those who may not understand chemistry well. Free book is a bonus. Very easy class. Participation and attendance required. Homework and recitation are "A for effort" grades. Short lectures. Fair amount of homework, but always short and easy. Easy tests if you study. If you did well in high school chem, you're fine
Dr. Pollock is a really great professor. Her lectures are clear and understandable, though she sometimes moves a bit fast. She really emphasizes understanding the chemistry behind reactions, not just memorizing facts, but she teaches it all very well.
Dr. Pollock is an amazing professor. I struggled with Chemistry and I think a lot of it had to do with me not knowing my major. About halfway through the semester I declared a major and realized I needed to do well in this class. I went to office hours and she was super helpful. Hard class but if you put the time & effort into it a 4.0 is possible.
Not the best
So nice
Very knowledgeable professor, but also has the ability to teach. In a lecture hall of 360, her style does not make it feel like such a big class. You do have to come to class to fulfill a certain percentage of your grade through i-Clickers, but as long as you show up and take your notes, you should be okay.
Good teacher, if you miss lecture you're screwed, homework is easy, you HAVE to study
I began this class with no prior knowledge of Chemistry and aced it. Dr. Pollock is an amazing professor and with little effort, you can get an easy A if you make sure you understand the material. Definitely would recommend her!!
Teaches the class way to fast. Not enough time to get all the notes written down. Grades very hard. Is always in an angry mood no matter what the day.
She's a great professor, and it's an easy A as long as you show up to class and are willing to learn the material. There's an online textbook provided for free, but reading it isn't necessary.
It was alright, the lectures aren't bad but the exams are really tricky. No amount of studying could have prepared me for it. You have to be really good at connecting one thing to another
She is an absolutely wonderful professor who makes the content of the course much more clear and she really does care about her students success. The course is difficult but as long as you don't skip class and study in advance for the exams then passing is feasible and is definetly 4.0able
Amazing professor. Amy teaches in such a way that if you had absolutely no previous knowledge of chemistry, you could ace this class. Free book, and everything that is on the test is material you've learned.
She is a fantastic instructor and is willing to help outside of class and also REALLY pushes to get you to get help from TA. The exams are tough and pretty dense with tricky questions. She is the head of the department and she really deserves it, she is sincere and wants to see everyone do well
She's an awesome teacher! I would recommend taking it with her. She is very concise and clear in her teaching structure.
She's an awesome teacher! Her lectures are clear and concise. The structure of the class is very straight forward.
She is very kind and really loves class participation. Typically, her lectures do not go too quickly and she will take time to reiterate things that are difficult and/or will show up on the exams.
Amy is really straightforward, as long as you come to class (get those clicker points!) and take good notes you're golden. She posts her lecture slides on D2L but she talks more and does examples on the blackboard. Homework is online and is pretty easy. She also provides the past few semesters previous exams for practice.
The lectures are awesome, but the recitation TAs could use some work
She's the best professor I've had so far at MSU. Her lectures are very clear and easy to understand if you come to class and pay attention. She is very good at explaining everything and the tests aren't too bad because she adds 10 extra points.
It's your basic chemistry class, she does do a good job of teaching the material. Daily clicker questions - you have to go to class, lots of homework assignments (one big one you have to start before the semester even starts, tests are hard but each one has 10 extra credit points on it, final replaces a lower test grade if you get higher than a 65
Great professor! Cant wait to have her again in 142!
Dr. Pollock makes this class general ed class way harder than it needs to be for some reason to justify her self need to promote herself. This class is a joke and pretty much useless to everyone who takes it besides for the couple of chem majors in the class.
The best professor ever. Her lectures are very helpful (and mandatory for attendance). I have such a good understanding of Chemistry because of her. The exams are very difficult, but she is available often and there are many resources to get help. If you know the information and think through the question and possible answers, you will be fine.
This class is honestly one of the hardest I have ever taken. I attended every lecture and recitation, completed all the homework, and even went to the help room when I was confused. With that said, the exams were very difficult and I struggled on all of them. Amy is a good teacher and is very knowledgeable, the material is just very intense.
She was very clear and easy to understand. She always encouraged questions.
This professor is honestly amazing. She teaches in a very effective way. As long as you pay attention, and take good notes, the class is not that hard.
Nice lady, and a decent prof. She has her moments where she seems like a high school teacher, and doesn't want you on your phone or computer (even to take notes). Readings are assigned but you don't need to read. Good option to study for exams. Multiple choice questions are wordy and you can be right but you didn't put "the best answer".
I hate Chemistry but Professor Pollock was able to teach it in such an interesting way that I didn't hate going to the class. She was always super organized and always knew exactly how to get the correct answers from us. The homework went over what we covered in class and would take half an hour tops to complete. Plus it was participation based.
Nice professor, impossible to learn from. I might be biased here, but 95% of the semester consisted of yes or no clicker questions, which doesn't help in teaching important/difficult content. I struggled on the tests despite the format (answer is either A, A B and D, C and B, D and A) which makes it so difficult when you're rushed for time.
Really good lecturer. Made the class interesting, and the material easier to understand.
Gives a great understanding of chemistry with clear lectures. A 4.0 is very achievable if you put in the work. Clickers and homework are for participation, but you will not do well if you don't try in them (which doesn't take a lot of effort). Textbook is free, but I rarely used it.
Dr. Pollock is a great professor and one of the best I've had at MSU. If you actually pay attention to the lectures then you will be fine. She makes chemistry easy to understand and a 4.0 is not very hard to get.
Her lectures are packed, but mostly even though she is a good teacher, she makes the subject that much harder, and furthermore is a very tough grader. Her exams are really hard, and if you skip class it's a sure fire 0.0 grade with her subject.
Lectures have a lot of information but she is a really good teacher and makes really good connections with other examples that aren't on the slides. Nothing on the exam that she didn't say in class. She knows what she's talking about, it's the class and it's concepts that's hard.
Did not care when I went to her struggling on over 3 different occasions. I went to her when my exam score was a 61% and she told me to go slower. I spent hours on end studying and her exams were stupid-ly hard. She wasn't willing to help me when I needed it the most. Didn't reply to my emails until the day of the exam. Terrible.
Great professor, all of CEM 141 classes are given the same exams so I would chose her to take the class with. Hard class, but I would pick this professor in order to do your best. She wants you to succeed and will help.
She dumbed things down in lecture, nothing seemed hard at all. All of the exams after exam 1 were very hard in my opinion compared to lectures and homework.
Pollack is hands down the best chem professor for CEM141 and 142. If you come to class, actually listen in lectures and do the practice exams to study, you WILL do well. She cares about her students and gives you pretty good hints at the exam review sessions about what will actually be tested. Great teacher!!
Once of the best professor's I've ever had. She is extremely competent and knows exactly what she is talking about. She explains things in a way so you actually understand and can connect different concepts, rather than struggling to simply memorize topics. She cares about her student. She is a powerful, intelligent woman, and a great teacher!
Very active in class, allows questions and explains in strong detail, doesn't treat you like an idiot for the question, explains things in a way everyone can understand but not at a pre school level.
Good professor. Lectures are well prepared and executed.
You need to attend lecture to understand anything, and then outside of lecture you need to look at the slides and make sure you understand what is going on. Study... a lot. The exams are nothing like what's done in lecture or recitation so make sure you look at the practice exams before hand and make sure you know how to do everything on them.
She is hands down one of the best professors that I ever had. The lectures were very easy to follow, but to understand the posted slides, you most often had to attend lecture. The exams tested your knowledge, but if you go and get outside help the exams are a piece of cake - and you can get extra credit. I would highly recommend her as a professor.
Pollock is a great chemistry professor. She really makes sure that any questions are answered throughout the lecture and takes time to ensure a majority of people are understanding what is going on. Her lectures are informative and helpful and if you show up, take notes, and study a few days before every exam diligently you will be completely fine.
Professor Pollock is a very good professor. Her exams are designed to be difficult but as long as you attend every lecture and take good notes and know whats going on in each lecture you should be good. But if your lost and don't know whats going on just go to the prof. office hours and ask for help and she will help you in any way that she can.
Never miss any of her lectures and or iclicker question
Dr. Pollock knows her information very well and never makes a student feel stupid for asking questions. She comes very well prepared to lectures and includes all valuable in formation. I 100% recommend attending or you will not pass the class. I did not read a page of the book and preformed well on the exams.
Her style relies on heavy emphasis of the topics discussed, which got the job done. Overall, Professor Pollock made this an easy 4.0 if you pay attention. To be honest though, shout out to my TA Ben, he really explained what was covered in lecture in simple terms. Had the 1.5 hour lecture so mileage may vary, but hard to get through sometimes.
Overall, the class is super difficult and it's very hard to really know where you stand before the final grades come out. THE FINAL IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT!
Overall great professor. She explains the content well and is always available for extra help. However, the exams are VERY difficult. You can miss up to 3 classes and 2 recitations without penalty which is nice, but attendance is definitely recommended. No opportunities for extra credit.
Pollock was a great teacher. The lecture hall is powerpoint based. As she teaches, she addresses the common problems of the group. She also places emphasis on study skills that will help. If I truly applied myself and did a bit better on some exams I would've 4.0ed. But with respect to grading go to recitation & do the homework and you'll be fine.
Pollock actually cares about teaching and is very thorough in her lectures. She will stay on a topic if you don't understand it and is just an overall very nice and welcoming person. She is my favorite professor by far.
CEM 141 is a challenging class, but professor Pollock does a great job at teaching this course. I hated chemistry in high school, but I really enjoyed her class! I always left the lecture feeling like I knew the information and always came to exams overly prepared. I took CEM 141 last semester and I already miss professor Pollock!
Pollock is a great prof. She's super interesting. I used to think I hated chemistry and was bad at it, but it turns out I just didn't have a good teacher. If you are taking university gen chem, TAKE POLLOCK. She is easily the best professor. She makes the most sense and is the most willing to work with you.
She's a really good prof for CEM 142. The tests are not that hard as long as you study for them and do the mock exams. She's available during office hours to answer any questions and tries to ensure that you understand the concept.
She is an amazing professor and knows how to teach the subject extremely well. She is kind and willing to work with all of her students to ensure they understand the information because she wants her students to succeed, especially since this is a required course. I love her so much, pick her for chem.
Dr Pollock was such a great professor. I had her for both 141 & 142. She really knows her material, and always wants to see the student succeed. She's very accessible and you can go and ask questions whenever. Exams are difficult, I recommend taking her advice in preparing for exams, don't wait until the night before.
I had Dr. Pollock for CEM 141 as well. She's a great professor who knows her material. Be prepared as exams are difficult if you don't know your information. Go to her office hours! She cares!! Just put the effort in for the grade you want to receive. She's great, but concepts are difficult and confusing! Take advantage of resources.
Dr. Pollock is a great professor! The whole gen chem department at MSU is very organized and I really believe all the gen chem profs, Pollock, Cangelosi, Kijewska, and Stubbs, are really good. I had Pollock for 142 and she was amazing! Always helped and very great lectures! She is super clear with instruction and she explains material very well!
Good professor. Lectures weren't always easy to understand. Quizzes consisted more of the book readings than the stuff discussed during lectures. Professor Pollock was easy to get ahold of outside of class and was always willing to help. Overall, I enjoyed having Professor Pollock and I would take another class of hers.
Despite being online because of COVID, I really learned a lot from Dr. Pollock. She is a great lecturer and keeps the class engaged with polling questions and chat discussions. Pay close attention to details because they will appear in quizzes. There was a free textbook available online which would be useful to those who study best by reading.
Took this class Fall20 and I was never great in chemistry but I enjoyed this class. The way she taught was very clear, and what was due was basically spelled out for you, great for online. Office hours and the help room were easily available and if you put in the effort and attend lecture your set. I think recitation was required but not lectures.
Amazing professor! Her lectures are very easy to follow and helpful. If you do what is asked receiving an A in her class is very achievable.
Dr. Pollock is one of the sweetest professors I have ever had. It's chemistry, so it is hard for a lot of people but she does her absolute best to ensure everyone succeeds and she cares about her students. There are a lot of resources outside of class to help and she will always answer your questions.
Very clear with lecture material and makes them interactive without making you feel pressured or uncomfortable. Frequent homework assignments but easily manageable and always helped with understanding course information as opposed to just being busy work. Records the lectures live and always uploads them same day to D2L along with lecture slides AM
She is not very understanding. She doesnt care if you have technical issues. Her multiple choice quizzes are harder than S.A quizzes. I was so confident with every quiz but apparently she uses words that she doesnt mention during lectures.
She is really nice but she lectures a little fast. You go over a lot of stuff in class so pay attention and rewatch lectures to do well. The lectures are long. The TAs and professor are helpful for answering questions. Reading the book and looking at the learning objectives are good ways to do well in this class.
Homework after every lecture, but she reviews the answers at the next lecture so do it for participation, not accuracy. Weekly recitations where you have to work with a small group to do a few practice problems. Bi-weekly quizzes. Fairly easy if you don't fall behind.
I've never understood chemistry until this class. She explains things so well and the materials/homework she gives benefits your learning a lot. I wish she could teach all my classes
Great Professor
This class made me lose the last of my remaining brain cells. You need to attend every lecture and take notes on everything. Pray to the lord you have a good recitation teacher, those are your saving graces.
She's super great at explaining all the concepts and connecting everything. Beware of graded assignments because they're graded by TAs and the grades vary a lot. The quizzes are open note/book which make them manageable. Definitely go to lecture and take notes.
Very easy to fall behind and hard to catch up. TA's are nice and will help if you ask but she is the worst and seems stuck up. Quizzes and graded assignments are open notes but grades very. Hard class would not recommend taking chem in general if you can avoid it.
She explains the concepts well, but the rest is terrible. TAs grade everything, and never hand out high grades. If you ask the TA about the assignment, they provide no feedback and do not know what they are talking about. Everything is open note, yet half the class still failed every quiz. Highest quiz grade I ever recieved was a 60%. DO NOT TAKE!
everything was open note even quizzes, lectures were online and not mandatory so you could do them whenever. Most things were completion grades and the material was very similar to high school chemistry. Professor Pollock was very nice and sweet and explained everything very well, available after every class to answer questions.
I really enjoyed taking Dr. Pollock for general chemistry. She explained the material slowly which helped me a lot. The hw assignments are graded for completion but are easy to forget about. The quizzes and exams are hard but the graded assignments aren't too bad. Recitation can be annoying but it's for participation points and it helped my grade.
If you have her for an online class. Drop out
Inconsistent and drastic grading harshness by the TA's. The teaching method failed to follow a linear path of thinking which made concepts unclear and confusing. When discussing grading with the professor, a clear answer was rarely provided while circular thinking was unfortunately common.
She is amazing! Not much work or reading for the class and she is so organized and easy to understand. She records all the lectures so you can watch them later or go back. There is so much opportunity for additional help but it's not even needed. She is the best chemistry teacher I've ever had. Tests aren't hard but need a little studying for.
If you pay attention and take notes it is pretty easy to do well. Lectures are very helpful.
She's okay, attendance is graded, no personal connection, teaches like an elementary teacher, the lectures are critical, and the practice exams are just like the real ones.
This professor did an amazing job. I am not a chem person at all and I have an A in the class. Always has resources available for you to get help, if you are failing it is on you because this professor provides you with so many resources.
Would take another one of her classes in a heartbeat
I am not a chemistry person but I really enjoyed her class and would take it again. The class (CEM 141) does require some hard work, but that is at no fault of Dr. Pollock. She provides a lot of resources for her students.
Overall, great professor, easy intro class. Lots of easy points: participation, homework completion, attendance. She makes content understandable and truly wants her students to succeed.
Outstanding prof, truly cares about your success/emotional health. Go to office hours (not many do!) Clear lectures, brief HW, never wastes your time, & positive attitude. Exams are difficult but lots of prep material provided & only covers material in lect/recitation. I've taken AP chem, LBC chem, etc: this is the experience you wish you'd had.
She was a very good professor, she tried to make a large classroom still interactive and wanted students to participate and ask questions.
Professor Pollock clearly has passion for chemistry. The exams are very difficult, almost all my friends failed at least one exam. The final is worth a lot as well as the pre chemistry assignment of ALEKS, these two things will determine if you pass the class. Brush up on your prior chemistry knowledge before begining this course.
She's a great professor. Do the homework (especially ALEKS for 141), go to recitation, go to class, and you get a huge amount of easy points just from showing up. Tests are hard but doable - the first one is the easiest so study hardest for that (IME). Go to office hours if you've got questions, she absolutely takes the time to explain very well.
Takes her job very seriously, pretty repetitive homework assignments.
This was a tough class for me. There are 3 exams and a LOT of course information. Despite that, the teacher is wonderful and committed to helping students learn and master chemistry. There were many TAs walking around in lecture ready to help as well. The teacher offers many resources to help students be successful.
Overall good teacher just beware of the first exam and then the rest of them
Kinda Boring
Professor Pollock is a wonderful teacher and ensures that her students understand the content. She is also very helpful during her office hours. The class content itself was definitely difficult, but she always made sure that we understood the material to be best prepared for the exams. Would definitely take one of her classes again.
coated
Ms. Amy ate her outfits up every single day. On top of that, she is spunky and organized. Very kind and very prepared and it's obvious she enjoys the material she is teaching. The exams were a bit on the difficult side, but nothing the right preparation couldn't fix. A few extra credit opportunities, and ICLICKER is used in just about every class.
Dr. Pollock is a very passionate professor and seems to care about her student's success. If you pay attention in lecture you will do well in this class, she posts the lectures online after class, but attendance is still required. This class moves quite slow, so lectures can be long and a bit boring. I would take Pollock over the other professors.
Dr. Pollock was an amazing prof. She's a very calm and collected professor, just the material can be overwhelming. The chemistry department at MSU is a creature in itself so just take things one day at a time and you will make it through. Attend her office hours, help rooms, and take advantage of study groups. That's what got me through!
The professor is great, offers many resources for help (take advantage!). I did a lot in this course to keep up, but if you are not a good test taker like me, this class may be a little harder as I would say even if you do great in everything else, the exams will still ruin your grade. She still does a great job at teaching a lot of content.
She was very nice and easy to talk too, but the exams were pretty hard. You have to really study for them. It's more of the material that can be difficult to learn and not the professor.
I absolutely loved Dr. Pollock. Her class was always engaging and you can tell she cares about her students. She would review iClicker questions when the majority of the class got them wrong. However, the exams were extremely difficult. I think this class is mores difficult because of the tests, not the teacher.
Professor Pollock was amazing! Professor Pollock made everything extremely easy to understand and learn. She is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had. However, that doesn't mean you can slack off. Make sure to pay attention and take notes and I promise you can easily 4.0 this class. Best of luck!!
Professor Pollock was great when it came to thoroughly teaching topics. However, you MUST show up to lecture or you will miss a LOT of information. She was also very straight forward with her teaching. There were many extra credit opportunities and grade drops offered, so do it all and you should be ok.
Professor Pollock is so sweet and caring when it comes to helping you during class or office hours. She always makes sure to explain everything clearly if anyone has questions before moving on and will not make you feel dumb for needing clarification. She really cares about making sure everybody can do well in her class. USE OFFICE HOURS!!!
The professor ensured to explain topics and concepts to fulfill students understanding of the material. The exams are easy as long as you keep up on the material and attend help hours!
The homework she gives are decently challenging, but she grades them in terms of completion and not correctness. Exams are pretty difficult so you'll want to take good notes and study well. She offers recorded lectures and things to make it pretty easy to study. With effort you'll be able to 4.0 and with minimal effort you'll 3.0-3.5. Great prof
Great lectures. May be a little fast-paced for some, but the unit notes are posted ahead of time. The environment is more focused on learning than being graded by using iclicker, so feel free to be wrong, but be prepared to show up to class!!! Lectured are recorded and uploaded after. Easy to reach via email and great at answering questions.
Nope. Just no
Pollock was a great Professor. Her lectures were very informational and easy to follow. Although chemistry is a tough subject she explains it very well. If you do everything you're supposed to do, you should have issues with this class.
She Is awesome, does a great job explaining and breaks down concepts. I struggled in the class still, but she made it better and looking back now, one of the better chemistry professors
Professor Pollock makes the material easy to grasp, but the exams are challenging. With diligent studying and using resources like Unstuck ai, you can ace this class.
She talks in a way you can understand chemistry! She records every lectures (posted) so it's helpful if you missed class. She gives extra credit for homework. You get a point for each lecture/recitation you attend. I think she takes attendance by iClicker. Go over lecture videos and your notes (that's what helped me) cus exams are a bit rough.
she goes extremely fast and changes the slides before you have a chance to write anything down. plus, all the slides have so much info on them, which makes it easy to fall behind. she talks in questions, a weird teaching style. hard to follow, hard to understand. the exams are difficult, and she doesnt drop any of them. overall a difficult class.
She's great. I took this class with another professor and got 1.5 because the concepts are difficult and I couldn't understand. Now I'm taking it with Pollock and I think she's great. She goes fast but if you're gonna take this class every teachers gonna go fast. I have like a 3 in her class
Goes way too fast in lecture. The TA's do a better job at explaining things than her. Extremely harsh grader especially on exams, which are worth 45% of your overall grade. I hated this class and struggled with it, which is weird because I did very well in previous chemistry classes I have taken.
She is a solid professor and conveys information in a digestible manner. If you pay attention and take notes in class, do the homework, and use the PAs for help as needed in recitation then you should be able to pass.
I absolutely loved having Dr. Pollock! She lectures in a manner that is easy to understand and she does look for participation a lot in lectures- but I personally didn't mind. If you follow the learning objectives, and are good (and quick) at taking notes in class you will be just fine. She makes expectations very clear and is very kind overall.
I love her class. CEM 141 is typically hard but the way she explains things helped me understand. Homework definitely helps with understanding the material. I recommend utilizing the learning objectives. Exams to me were easy. Don't be afraid to use the help room too!
Lectures are SO important please go! Pay attention and ask questions, she is more than happy to help! She wants to make sure students succeed and even though it is a general course, still wants to make kids love chemistry. Overall, a wonderful professor!
Professor Pollock is a great teacher. Highly recommend taking CEM 141 with her.
Dr. Pollock was one of my favorite professors of the whole semester. I don't love chemistry, but she has a great teaching style. If most of the class got a lecture question wrong, she wouldn't show us how we answered and would reiterate from a different approach with more detail, then ask the question again and it worked every time. Great prof.
Amazing professor, genuinely so nice and as long as you go to lectures and pay attention, you'll be fine. The homework is completion and the tests are hard so make sure you go study EVERYTHING on the slides and go to the help room!
Prof is very aimed towards students success and education, but you can't really miss a lecture. Multiple extra credits and clear learning objectives. She is very clear with the material and easy to learn from, gives many suggestions on how to succeed in the class and if you follow you will. The exams were straightforward but at weird times.
Professor Pollock was a great professor and explained the material slowly and thoroughly. She was very accessible outside of class and told you exactly what you needed to know to be successful. CEM 141 is a tough class but if you put the work in and go to all the lectures you will succeed.
Dr.Pollock is a very good professor. She is well experienced and makes you really understand concepts that can be challenging. She goes slow over materials (which I liked) to ensure that everything is clear. I wished she taught upper-level chemistry so I can retake them with her.
Very good lecturer, explains topics well. She does a very good job explaining why the concepts work the way they do instead of just giving us rules to memorize. And the homework load isn't too crazy.

I studied for 9+ hours on every exam and never received anything better than an 82%. One exam I got a 69% even though I studied for 9 hours. She's a decent teacher, but this course just sets people up for failure. I do not understand how people 4.0 this class.
Amazing at explaining the WHY for concepts, wants people to succeed and is good at telling us how to, makes lecture interesting, easy to understand. SUPER organized which was the reason for my success, posts lecture vids. Doesn't waste a second of lecture, definitely memorizes her speeches. Use learning objectives to study for exams! I'd recommend!
You really just have to attend lecture and pay attention. This class is a general chemistry class, so the concepts are fairly simple. Go to class, study, get what you pay for. The only con I have is that the due dates for homework can be somewhat random, leading me to miss two of them because it slipped my mind.
Very informative lectures, she teaches you exactly what is going to be on the tests and how to approach it. Definitely make use of the practice materials before each test.
Love Dr. Pollock! She explains things well in class better than my high school teachers. I never went to office hours since they conflicted with my classes but I've heard that she explains things very very well there. Just make sure you shown up and pay attention in class!
I loved Dr Pollock. She explains things very well and made confusing concepts easy to understand so make sure to pay attention in lecture. I got a 4.0 in this class. I never did amazing on the exams but the homework and extra credit help a ton. The final is super easy too. I would recommend taking CEM141 with Pollock.
Super great professor!
Amy is amazing. She is a super kind and a cute lady. However, if you do not come to the lectures, you will fail. Class material is basic chem and Amy teaches it super well. She is very passionate and explains every thing in great detail. There are about 2 easy homeworks a week. Overall, if you come to class and pay attention, you should pass.
Made this class really easy to understand and she's good at explaining topics in a clear and concise way.
Great lecturer!
Great prof and made the course very easy to understand if you pay attention in lecture. Homework isn't bad and she goes over it in lecture. Attendance is mandatory with IClicker. Completion worksheet in recitation.
This class is taught in a big setting so not very personal. Everything you need to know will be taught in class which is mandatory. Lots of material to study for the test with. Class is not hard but she loves trick questions.
She gave good explanations and clearly cares about students' learning. She has a lot of resources and tips for studying.
Amy lowkey the goat at teaching, even for a difficult class. It was easy to take notes as she lectured and we would do iClicker for attendance points. Show up to lecture and recitation, take notes, try your best, and you will be fine. I literally got B's on all my tests and A's on everything else, giving me a 4.0 in the end. CEM 141 survivor.
Professor Pollock took subject that I'm not very good at and simplified it enough for me to get a 3.0. Overall, a good, not great professor. But she can sometimes go a little fast so definitely be sure to stay up on the readings or at least use the help room.
Dr. pollock was seriously genuine about us succeeding in her class. she would give homework twice a week, but even those are done within 30 minutes. she would tell you everything to do in order to receive a good grade, provided tons of resources, and made it engaging. she is very educated on the topic at hand, and is very kind and considerate.
Absolutely amazing professor. The way she taught the class made everything in chemistry just click. All homework, recitation activities, and exams will be very easy if you show up to lectures. Made learning chemistry enjoyable.
Amy Pollock is a great professor who truly wants her students to learn. PAY ATTENTION to her lectures and TAKE GOOD NOTES. These will be your best friend for the exam. DO NOT slack off on the BeSocratic HW or in the recitations. These are basically mini-reviews for the exams.
Dr Pollock is a very knowledgeable person, and you are able to understand the lectures pretty well. (I unfortunately don't do good in chem no matter what) But she is an amazing professor.
