The class content is very interesting, and she just helps it along.
loved this class, loved the prof!
The content of this class makes it hard to stay interested. She gives quizes before the material is discussed in class which can be frustrating.

The quizzes are given over just the text before it is discussed in classs which makes it seem easy and pointless; The grant and research paper portion makes up for the easiness and gives the class some point. I really enjoyed the prof as she was very fair in grading the group projects when my group didnt contribute much of anything.

Amy is an Awesome professor. Se graded extremely fair. I thought I was going to fail this course, but for my surprise she curved grades and saved me. Overall I talked to her very often, as she is EXTREMELY friendly
Amy is an amazing professor! She loves the subject area & her excitement about being in class in contagious. She's also very accommodating and will help you out in any way she can. There's a lot of EC for going to lectures. Overall this class was made my favorite ever at ISU because of Amy. She's awesome! Take this class!! You'll learn and have fun
This was a pretty easy class. All of the quizzes are in order from the book which is a great way to earn easy points. Tests are word for word from the NOTES. The professor is helpful, but sometimes has a rude attitude.
Great professor. Made class fun and interesting. Relates well to students and is very easy to talk to and responsive to questions. all around a great course and prof. she's cute too.
Easy topic and class work. Does in class points which is annoying. She will go on random tangents and **** out the class for random things. Gives LOTS of extra credit. The class is very focused on education majors which I am not so it got bland at times..
Amy is awesome! She loves teaching and loves helping out her students. It is not required to go to class but you will want to because the topic is so interesting. Plenty of extra credit offered - no reason to not get an A and have fun and learn a lot in the process!! My favorite prof at ISU
Amy is wonderful! She genuinely cares about her students and creates an engaging learning environment!

Amy always made class interesting and had a very warm and nurturing style of teaching. She is also very knowledgeable and helpful.
She is Amazing!
She is a helpful teacher. The class with her will be easier compared to the other sections
Very nice
Super easy and interesting! Tests are exactly what she gives you on the study guide-- Easy A!
This class was interesting, but not as easy as people say. The tests are the study guide but the online quizzes are from the book and I would find the answer in the book and it would be wrong. She grades the paper really hard, but she is a really good teacher. Easy A or A- class, but it is more work than I had thought
Pretty easy class, kind of interesting. Some days were pretty boring.
Amy is a great teacher who is very passionate about the content she teaches. She is very helpful and always encouraging students to meet their potential. I wouldn't consider her an easy grader- but if you put effort into your assignments and make an effort to learn and keep an open mind, you will do well.
I had her for human sexuality and it was probably the best class I've ever taken. Took it to get my US diversity credit for engineering. Lectures are very interesting. Easy to get an A-, but you have to work for a solid A. Review the study guide before tests and read the book. Extra credit is pretty easy. Recommend taking this class.
Most of the material is common sense, but going to class is interesting. Online quizzes once a week, all the answers come straight from the textbook and the exams come straight from the reviews. Excellent class
Excellent teacher, she always made class interesting.
Very nice professor. The class is great just don't procrastinate on projects!
Does not accurately provide information during lecture. Questions on test are lazy and vague. The study guide for the same test often does not match up concepts. Demands that proper grammar and spelling is used in the small writing assignments, but then fails to do so in her assignment instructions. Rarely uses logic. Honestly the worst I've had.
Teaches in a great, interactive style. Encouraged to participate, but not required. She's awesome!
Amazing professor
This class was beyond easy. There are clicker questions for attendance points, and each week you write a reflection over a chapter in the book. There aren't any tests and there isn't a final -- just a couple of papers and a couple of projects. You'll have to go to the Ames Public Library to check out children's books for the projects.
Dr. Popillion is one of the most incredible professors I've ever had. I took HDFS 276 for my US Diversity and was glad i did. She teaches the class with superb clarity and is always openpatient to talk to us about anything. She sends out a study guide question sheet that, if you answer it all and study it well you can ace the tests. Wonderful lady
Easy class if you read the book and do the reflections, also there is group work on some days and clicker points. NO EXAMS - NO FINAL.
Dr. Popillion is an amazing teacher. Her tests are pretty much word for word what her study guides say. She will respond to emails very quickly and you can usually reach her late into the evening. Exams are easy as long as you go to class and somewhat listen.
If you fill out the study guides then you'll ace the test. The quizzes are easy and weekly thru blackboard. Don't procrastinate on assignments. But overall easy class if you put some effort in.
Dr. Popillion was an awesome teacher and I am so glad that I had her for this class. She works with you as long as you ask her questions and do your work. You can also tell that she wants to see you succeed in her class. She also works hard as a professor and commits completely.
Her tests were a bit difficult and one of my harder courses during the semester. But I had a problem understanding something so I emailed her and right away she clarified it. She went off of the text book a lot which I think is good for the type of class she is teaching her guest speakers are informative
Do the study guides, this is the best way to study. Easy course and great professor! The class was one of the best classes that I've ever taken here at ISU.
If you put effort, you will get an A. Super interesting and she makes it really fun to learn about.
Although this class is not for the faint-hearted, I would hands down vote Amy as the best professor that I have had in my college experience. This class really opened my eyes to sex and gender, as well as numerous other factors that we judge others on. The papers may seem scary, but they're really just self-reflections. Good luck!
Amy is very nice and always understanding of students. She is willing to help anyone and is a good professor and person overall. Pay attention and do some light reading and you will get a B or above.
The course content is pretty interesting. Amy is a great teacher! Attendance isn't mandatory, but she does take In-Class points randomly throughout the semester. I didn't find the tests too hard. There's a few papers but they weren't too difficult either.
She was a very clear and understanding professor. She told you exactly what to expect on exams. If you show up to class most of the time, and are willing to put in 30-45 minutes outside of class a week on average, you'll easily get an A.
She is very open and helpful for any chapter we go over. Her lectures are super interesting and makes class more fun. You have to buy Top Hat which cost 50 dollars but the questions and attendance code gives you extra points. I would definitely recommend her as an instructor.
She cares about all of her students and explains everything really well. She makes an already interesting class so much more interesting by keeping you engaged and makes things interactive. One of my favorite classes for sure.
You learn a lot. She is very down to Earth teacher and truly cares bout her classes. Lectures are usually full every class period. If you do the study guides you will pass the class. Go to class because you get extra credit at the end for attendance. Speak up in class too.
This class is a great class to fulfill a diversity credit and also learn a lot about yourself. Amy always makes the lectures engaging and encourages participation. If you don't want to buy the text book there are ways around that (use the internet). The 3 essays you have to write can make you learn a lot about yourself if you take them seriously.
Human Sexuality was so interesting and enjoyable. Amy makes lectures fun and light, but knows a lot. There are 3 tests that are all multiple choice and she gives a study guide with exactly what's on the test. Top Hat attendance is graded and there are weekly online quizzes that are really easy, plus 3 writing assignments. Fun, easy, interesting!
Dr. Popillion is one of the sweetest, most caring instructors I have ever come across in my time as an undergraduate student. If I had the time, I would take ALL of her classes. She listens to her students and actually tries to help them whenever they might come across an issue, whether it be personal or educational. You are not a number to her.
Amy is literally one of the best professors I have had at Iowa State. She is caring and passionate about helping students. You will leave her class knowing more about yourself. She gives study guides for all of her exams, and as long as you do them you should ace the exam. Honestly, I would take the class all over again just because I enjoyed her.
One of the best professors I've had so far. She is very engaging and really cares for her students. She is super funny, gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, makes study guides that will help you ace the test, and brings entertaining speakers for class. 3 writing assignments are given in the class but they are not too difficult. Take the class
Classes and homework are super easy, however, you never know what will be on the exams. The class is still an easy A though! Get ready to be pushed out of your comfort zone!
Not sure who wrote that you never know what will be on exams, as the study guide literally lays out what will be on the exam exactly. Amy was great and made it super easy to get a good grade! Definitely take this class
really interesting class, amy was a good speaker and really made all topics relevant. exams are super easy as she gives you a study guide with everything on it a week before. top hat is important and attendance is taken every class. its pretty easy to get a good grade in this class
Amy is not just a phenomenal teacher, but a phenomenal person. I learned so much in her class, I feel like this should be a required course for all students. This was my favorite class all year because the topics are interesting and very relevant and important to everyone's lives. Don't hesitate to take this class!
Easy class and interesting as well. I would for sure take it with her. There are weekly quizzes but you can find the answers pretty easily through notes and stuff. Tests are exactly like the study guides and she offers quite a bit of extra credit. As long as you do the stuff you will pass no doubt.
Lots of extra credit opportunities
She is a great professor! She tells you how things are in the real world instead of sugar coating it. I would recommend her 100%.
Excellent professor. She incorporates her own life into her lectures to make it more relatable. She makes a study guide for every exam and overs a ton of extra credit. One of my favorite professors at ISU.
Mrs. Popillion is a cool professor and shares information from her personal life to contribute to the class. The class is easy and has plenty of extra credit if you somehow struggle in this class.
Very respectful and easy to talk to. Great professor for engineering trying for U.S. Diversity credits
Dr. Popillion was an amazing professor. She is so genuine and truly funny. Her class was very interesting and she would have guest speakers sometimes which was a real treat. There are only two tests in her class, but they cover a lot of material. She maps out study guides and she has quizzes every week that help for the test.
Professor Popillion is my QUEEN. Attendance is required each period but Amy did a great job picking out the most relevant material. The class period goes quickly and you can chill on your computer if you sit on the side of the lecture hall. This class should honestly be required for all students because the relevant content and the lax grading.
Awesome
Amy is hands down one of the most approachable people i've ever met. Her lectures are very helpful, as well as very enjoyable. She makes class interactive, and also very personal. She really wants her students to succeed, and will always do what she can to help. I really enjoyed the class, and would definitely love to have a class with her again.
easy, interesting class.
Amy is a great professor in that she is personable and you will learn not only about her, but also her husband and kids just by going to class. She is also very clear about grading and as long as you pay attention in class you should pass.
She is an amazing professor that teaches really interesting material. Would highly recommend taking this course
Best class at Iowa State. Easy A. You learn about interesting things. That's all you need to know.
Only two test that she gives study guides for. Not to many assignments and they are pretty easy. Attendance is required and is worth a good amount of your grade
The best professor in ISU. Period.
Very easy class. Amy teaches the class in a very interesting manner and makes topics easy to understand. She gives a lot of lee way in grading so if you miss any assignments your grade will still be fine.
She is the best. So approachable and easy to connect with. Very empathetic and seems to be in-touch with the struggles college students face. Provides useful real-life resources for mental health and sexuality. Never skipped class because I loved going so much. She makes you think hard without making the class too hard. Amy, youre the best.
This may be only my first semester at ISU, but this woman is the best professor/teacher I have ever had. She gives you feedback and explains how you can be better. Holds interesting lectures and gives you so many extra credit opportunities that you can pass with flying colors. She is so friendly and easy to contact. Amy is the best!
She's the BEST! Gracious grading policy, great material that makes sense, things I actually LEARNED & not just memorized. Never panicked. I wish she wrote the rule book for all professors to follow!
literally the best. no exams, only quizzes that are open note open book and you have about a week to complete, and can come back to it after starting. she makes the class easy so you actually can learn and i think this is super effective. tophat attendance is takem. shes also super chill and creates a very comfortable environment
Dr. Amy is a fun professor with a lot of stories in class
Loved the class, great class for gen ed!!!! Professor Popillion was amazing
Professor Popillion is a good professor. The class is weird and some of the topics make you uncomfortable for she does the best she can to try and make everyone feel welcomed. Exams are open note and book, take on your own time, with no camera. Also, lots of extra credit that is pretty simple. Attendance is taken through TopHat at the end of class.
Super interesting lectures, not a lot of work.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Super knowledgeable and you will learn a lot in her courses. She should honestly write a book!
Participation was taken through TopHat, but she has multiple ways you can get points back if you miss a lot of classes. No final, easy grader focused more on what you learned versus your grade, so she gave points easily. One of the kindest teachers, and the class was super fun. I wanted to read the textbook, which says a lot.
She is very into class participation, so be ready for that. Some of the things she said in defense of some types of abusers made me uncomfortable, and she would sometimes speak about topics that she had no personal experience in as if she was an expert. These were deal breakers for me, but otherwise, she was an okay prof.
One of the best classes I've taken. Dr. Popillion is incredible. She is passionate about what she teaches and that shines through her lectures.
Took this class online and is very well set up. I learned a lot through the lecture slides posted and the textbook. There was no final for this class, it was just a 30 question quiz per unit and they were very guided and easy. There are also many discussions/extra credit opportunities that will boost your grade up as well.
Extremely kind and cares about your overall grade. Helps you out with your grades and scoring if you reach out about a concern. If you show you care, she will help you out. Extremely personable and sympathetic.
Great professor with a super easy class. She makes students know that she cares, and she will help if you reach out.
This was a very fun class to take and Amy is very knowledgeable on these topics. While some of the material may be weird to read about, she always gave warnings before any sensitive topics. She also has everything on Canvas set up in an easy, accessible way so you know exactly what's expected of you. Easy assignments, just try and you will do good.
HDFS 276 was a wild class that I highly recommend taking. Professor Popillion is great, and I learned a ton from both lectures and the textbook. This class is really easy, you just have to read the textbook and answer some questions along with a few assignments through out the semester that are pretty simple.
I absolutely loved having her as a professor and she's flexible as long as you communicate with her.
Just took the class for a gen ed. The content of this class is very in depth so be prepared. No tests/exams, just 2 assignments per week with the occasional 1 page essay. The class is very easy and is layed out very straightforward. Highly recommend taking for an easy gen ed.
She is super nice and relatable, especially taking into account she's teaching a human sexuality class. You get 6 classes you can skip the whole semester without affecting your grade/participation which is nice. She respects you and your time, while also acknowledging that we are young adults who still laugh at dirty jokes! 100% recommend taking!
She is very involved w/ the class and in responding to emails. Participation is graded and done using a Top Hat code. Participation within the weekly activities that are planned is important and a large chunk of grade. Short(er) writing assignments every other week also graded. No midterm, no final. She is very fun and inclusive.
I've had this professor for many classes and she truly cares about her students. Her lectures are engaging and she's really funny. I've taken both online and in person courses through her and I would highly recommend taking in person classes so you can listen to her lecture.
Amy is a great professor and this is a good class for an easy A
Easy A, ended with a 104%, lots of extra credit opportunities, provides good feedback on assignments, interesting course would recommend!
Dr. Popillion is a great professor. There are no exams in this class, rather there are weekly homework assignments through the textbook. There were also 2 discussion posts in total. She is very caring and understands if you need to miss class for any reason. She also allows 6 classes to be missed throughout the semester. Very easy class!
