Dr. Ramos is tough, but reasonable, she gives like 4 exams and a essay final.(no real study guides) There is also an article review and power point presentation ( a little tough on grading this) I was very intimidated at first but grew to never want to miss this class! Awesome videos and an incredible knowledge about this and EVERYTHING else!
great class! She is young and cool & relates to the students. Very laid back, but very smart. Extremely knowledgeable, I look forward to going to class. Discussions are very interesting and fun! I would highly recommend her as a teacher!
Professor still acts as if she is still a college student rather than as one of her doctorate. She is quick to dismiss students who do not appeal to her tast or who are in need of extra help or special needs.
She is very interested in her classes. And she IS willing to help students that need help, but no she will not give you the answers to test questions that is the students job to know the material. This is a class that should be taken by serious college students and not slackers.
she is very laid back but will make you understand what is going on...also very easy to talk to and let her know that you dont understand what she was talking about. it was my second psych class and she made me understand it! TAKE HER!
She does not at all look like the type of person who has a Phd. But she thinks like one who does. She's a very good teacher and have very good lectures because she makes you think about what she's talking about and let's you get involved. Take her.
She seems scary at first, but if you are willing to put in the effort she is willing to help. She is very open, guides you in the right direction. Be sure to go to class. This is not a class you can slack on, but it is possible to do well!
I loved this class and Dr. Ramos, she knows a lot and is willing to help. Helped me discover what I wanted to major in. This isn't a class that you can slack off in, attending is essential. The class grade was based on a research paper, presentation, 4 exams, and 10 quizes.
Prof. Ramos was an amazing teacher. She tries her best to intimidate the class, but as long as you participate she is more than happy to help you out. I'm not one to study, but she makes things memorable, and thus I received a B in her class. Her final paper is hard, so definately use her office hours to your advantage!!! Definately take her!
Yes, this is one of those classes where you actually have to study. Good news is that most everything you have to read about is too interesting for your NOT to read about it. If you pay attention and do all the work and reading, you should leave this class with a great understanding of human psychology. This professor has a lot to teach and is fun.
Dont take if you dont have time to study. Very demanding. Must use tutoring & office hours to full advantage. Research paper & presentation wasnt hard just dont slack. Exams are dreadful! Too much to test on in 75 min. DONT EVER BE LATE-pop quizzes randomly w/in first 2min of class. Very approachable and helpful.Wants u to succeed.Asks alot of Q's!
SHE IS AWESOME!!! She will give you the evil eye though if she catches you talking while she is lecturing. So make sure to come to class to learn not to slack off.The test are somewhat hard (if you don't read the book) but if you study you will do great. I recommend you take her instead of anyone else.Final is 10 questions and only 5 will be picked
If you're the type who thinks that Community College is too boring, then this is the perfect class. It's really not that difficult if you're willing to put in the time. She understands the students needs to relax a bit, but isn't willing to cave into your lethargy. After this class I now plan on going into neuroscience.
She's a very good teacher in my opinion. As long as you study and are serious about the class, you'll be fine. She's a fair teacher. Participate, go to class, and put your phone on silent and you're good to go. She's nice to look at too. Haha!
She is sweet and tottally hot she seems like the type you would want to go to a bar with andhang out because she has herself together completely. Her exams are hard definatly have to study material for this class. great teacher though i would take her again
She is a very good professor is always a email away and is always more then willing to help you out when you need it. go to class, study the material and you will do good.
Dr Ramos comes off as very intimidating & mean. Stick to her class & you'll love it. Half the class dropped after the first test, stick w/it..it's really not that bad. Just go to class, pay attention to her lectures & skim thru the book. I got an A in the class & found it to be my favorite undergrad psy class so far! TAKE HER!
Dr. Ramos got me into my current major. She's smart, funny, & fair. Hard, but worth the work. 10 quiz, 4 tests, 1 paper, & 1 presentation. She prepares you for what REAL COLLEGE IS LIKE!! I'm at SDSU now & almost all of my classes are the same format! TAKE HER!! You'll be overprepared for classes after transferring!
Dr. Ramos is the best psych teacher ever, i totally recommend her to anyone to take her class you will learn a lot from her the tests are hard but they help you learn the subject more she is really helpful and honest because she loves doing what she is doing. I really enjoyed this class very much and i plan on taking one of her other psych classes.
Very helpful, gives a lot of quizzes but they are easy points!very interesting class and easy to get a good grade!!!!
I took Amy las semester, he is funny and makes class interesting. As far as test come stick to the study guide and youll be fine. You need to have the text book cause she does use it. One big project with presentation.Final is comprehensive, but she gives you everything you need to pass it.I really recomend her.
Dr Ramos is an excellent professor. She can be tough, but she is really approachable and knowledgeable. The nature of the material requires a lot of work. It's essential to stay caught up the first half of the semester..The second half requires a little less work.
This class is tough work, but I absolutely loved it because the subject is so fascinating. Dr. Ramos is very approachable and a fair grader. If you're a student like me and you'd rather learn something than get an easy "A", this is the class for you. Amy inspired me to aim higher and I will be doing my future graduate studies in neuroscience :)
This was a good class for someone that likes to learn by the book. Her lectures were straight forward but not interesting. Overall the class was easy
This is a love it or hate it class. Im a psych major, so I did learn alot, yet worked HARD for a B. Dont give up in the beginning, she makes it seem impossible, but if you give yourself enough time to study you will be fine. Lots of extra credit and quizes. Your book will be your best friend in this class. She helps if asked and is really smart.
great great teacher
shes AWESOOOMMEE.so what the tests are hard to some but of you are interested, just study duh! its a fun class.shess sooo nice&helpful.
You must read the book to do well in this class, because the lectures don't begin to cover what is on the tests. You also do a 10-15 min presentation in class which is a challenge. Ms. Ramos' style is to engage the class to participate. Lots of visuals.
Loved her. My first psych class and it became my major. Very interesting, she goes fast to keep you paying attention. Take Notes and read through the book before tests. She makes a very helpful study guide. She is very nice! She tries to scare you in the beginning, stick it out, its a great class.
She is a fast talker. Fast. Like most classes if you study you will pass. Sometimes she put material on tests that she didn't lecture about but she will tell you its on the test. The oral presentation isn't hard. Just 8-10 PP slides and 10 min talking. Her teaching style wasn't all that enlightening to me but it was good.
The best teacher in the world. She makes me love psychology. I have learned a lot more from her than the book it self. She is very helpful although tough on her tests, but overall a great teacher of all times.
I can say I have never worked so hard, studied so much for such a low grade. I had gotten help from the free tutor provided and read the chapters at a couple times each week. This class was extremely frustrating. She is nice, but it seems that there is too many people getting low grades, from talking to people and my observations.
I really enjoyed Ms. Ramos? class. Tests are multiple choice with 4 essay questions at the end; If you study you will do well. I never opened the book, for she posted all her lecture notes online. She posted study guides for her tests and offered extra credit for each one. She is really down to earth and will answer any question you have.
This class sucks for ppl that hate work, get that straight. The prof that taught this class before Ramos didn't give more than a few As a semester. She'll give you every opportunity to get a high grade, and even if you dont you'll learn a lot about research and brain/behavior.
Amy is a great teacher. The class is really hard, and you have to put alot of work and effort into it but you will learn so much. Not and easy A by any means but it is possible to earn an A if you work hard.
Amy is great! I learned so much. She is a very smart person with a science background. She does give you a ton of information but if you pay attention to her you absorb a lot. I took her class the first semester I attended college and she defiantly gave me told to succeed in all of my classes!
This class is not difficult, it's a lot of work. Theirs a difference. If you keep up with the reading, ask questions and form a study group, you should be on track for a good grade. I loved this class and loved Amy. She gives you every opportunity to understand the material and gives you all the help you could need.
Amy is a really great professor. She's enthusiastic, young, easy-going, & funny. Her class isn't "easy" but she really does give you everything you need to pass by outlining EXACTLY what will be on exams and stuff. & there's extra credit opportunities. I don't really like school, but I liked her class.
Dr. Ramos is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. The class was hard but good. For all the test she gives you study guides with everything that is going to to be on the test. She is extremely helpful. I would recommend that anyone take any of her classes. I wish i was a psych major now and could take more of her classes.
What a great teacher! Had her fall 2010 and she was terrific. Study guides for every test, tons of extra credit compared to other courses. I would recommend Ramos to anyone, plus she is really funny and down to earth. Love her!
What a great teacher! Had her fall 2010 and she was terrific. Study guides for every test, tons of extra credit compared to other courses. I would recommend Ramos to anyone, plus she is really funny and down to earth. Love her!
What a great teacher! Had her fall 2010 and she was terrific. Study guides for every test, tons of extra credit compared to other courses. I would recommend Ramos to anyone, plus she is really funny and down to earth. Love her!
This online professor had a teaching assistant, in which did all the answering of the questions and re setting the test. The only thing that the Ramos did as an online teacher was post quizzes and post exams. Even discussion boards she didn't partcipate in. She didn't grade tests timeley. Would like to take the class in person to see different resu
She is a great teacher. You will have to put in the effort but she gives you a study guide for the tests. As long as you read you should get an A. Go to class because she gives you participation points.
Loved her! Really down to earth, nice, and funny. Pay attention during class and read, do well on the little quizzes she gives, do the study guides she provides for each exam, do the extra credit, and you really can't fail. I'd definitely recommend her.
By far the best teacher I have ever had.. Every class kept me interested and the study guides she makes for tests are extremely helpful. Read from the book, review the notes, do the extra credit, study, and you can earn an A. It's only a hard class if you slack off and don't study. And definitely show up!
On of the best professors I've ever had. She can be a little intimidating on the first day, but as long as you read and study (she gives study guides) you can get an A. This class does take effort, but Amy's passion for the subject makes it interesting and fun. She's always willing to help in office hours. I highly recommend this professor!!
Amy is the best teacher ive had so far. Her class in not easy but she gives you all the necessary tools to pass her class. She gives great study guides which are a luxury. Offers a TON of extra credit!!! love this teacher and highly suggest people to take her.
One of my favorite classes by far. She is really nice and easy. Her lectures were easy to follow and time went by fast. She let us pick the questions on the final and gave us donuts for positive reinforcements. Great teacher overall!!!
Dr. Ramos was a tough academic cookie! You will be challenged if you are spoiled by study guides. Resourceful. You learn a lot and appreciate having an intact brain. She brings donuts the last week of class. New fave of mine! I'm taking her Research Methods course next Spring.
She is the best Psych teacher I ever had. I took this class in high school at this level and Always got a D or F on my tests but in this class I got an A on every single test including the final. She gives you a study guide so that's all you need. She is funny and teaches very good. I recommend her!!
Tough class!!, but you will learn a lot if you are ready to put in the effort. Prof. Amy will seem intimidating at first but thats only to get you serious for the class. Don't even think about being absent because there are quizzes almost every other day, not to hard, but easy points. Make sure to read the textbook and study super hard for the exam
My favorite teacher in college so far! The class isn't easy, but she gives you all the tools you need to pass. She is relatable with other students, so I always looked forward to her class! She comes off as strict and mean but after a couple classes she became my favorite teacher.
Wonderful teacher :) gives extra credit and is always available during her office hours. She wants you to succeed and if you stick it out, you will see that she is amazing!
Horrible. does not care much if you understand the material as long as she's on schedule with her lectures. does not explain well, she goes very fast and expects you to already understand what she's talking about. it is a very hard class with alot of material and she's not helping at all, but sucks because she's the only one who gives that class.
wonderful teacher :)
Dr. Ramos is by far the best professor Ive ever had at grossmont. She made me want to switch my major. Ive taken two classes with her. She is very fair, and very clear with her teaching. She makes it possible for you to really understand what shes teaching. Her class structure is very easy to follow. All quizzes and exams and 1 presentation.
She is an amazing teacher! She explains everything very clearly. You do need to study in this class because the subject material is very difficult but she tells you exactly what is going to be on her exam. Her tests are not based on definitions but concepts. Not boring to listen to. She offers tons of extra credit.Take her! It's definitely worth it.
TAKE THIS CLASS. Before going to college, I could not stand listening to teachers lecture, not even for 30 minutes. But when I got to her class, she surprised me with how much she interested me. She is not easy, but she will definitely help you with everything. Bottom line, if you love being challenged, take her classes. Love her.
She is super interesting! i loved the class and was always having fun, you definitely dont miss her class though, because she gives extra credit like candy and you feel very lost from missing one of her lectures. But pretty easy class something I highly recommend! and shes always there to help you out if needed!
She is an awesome teacher with a good sense of humor. If you don't read the book, you won't pass. Prepare to study.. a lot.
Decent teacher. Makes lectures interesting and very useful. The material is a lot, USE the text book! Exams also quite difficult.
A wonderful teacher! She is super smart and honestly could teach a class at an ivy league school because she is a great speaker and very educated. You can come to her during office hours for help and the tutor for psy 140 b/c she is her TA. Pretty quick grading and quizzes every week but if you keep up w/ reading you're fine. Drops lowest quizzes.
Yes she can be seen as a good teacher and she knows what she talks about but she is stuck in Dr. mode. Her explanations are hard to follow and go to show that no matter what degree you have, not everyone can teach.
This is a quick paced class but easy if you keep up with the lectures. Even if you miss class, the lectures are on blackboard and I recommend you take advantage of the lectures as they sum up the most important topics in the chapter. She also gives a good amount of extra credit so there should be almost no way to fail the class.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. She challenges our minds with essay questions that are more about critical thinking than just textbook definition answers. The class is taught at a fast pace, but she is very helpful if you do not understand the material. Unless gou're a genius, slacking is not a good idea even with all the extra credit she gives
Great Teacher, very clear teaching, materiel challenging but but interesting the class is not hard if you do put in the time. From day 1 you better pay attention & read the book! Don't F-round in this class and you will do good! go to her O.H if you have q's she also has a nice t.a that will help if you email her q's.
Great Teacher! This was her 1st time teaching this class at GCC at a lower level. She uses to teach this class @UC in upper-division. Very challenging class but you will LEARN A LOT! It might start out a little slow but before you know it the work piles up.. don't stress ask for help if you need it.. she is very helpful!
Great class, she use to teach this @UC upper division. the class will start of slow but will pic up fast and get really challenging... don't quit stick it out great class you will LEARN A LOT! it was a pleasure to have her as a teacher!
great teacher, gives extra credit, textbook use very high, attend every class or you will get lost. best way to contact her is in her office hours, the TA is very responsive by email (go to her for tutoring)
Amazing class. Changed my whole look on future in psychology. Awesome teacher with unlimited knowledge in the subject. Course information can seem a little overwhelming at times but if you put in the effort then you'll find it's not impossible. Tests were challenging and make you think rather than memorize.
Best teacher I have had at Grossmont. Loved her and her teaching style. I was excited to come to class everyday. At first, I thought she was mean but after the next day of class I loved her! SHE WILL MAKE YOU LOVE psychology. Wish she taught every subject. Amazing calrity and she's pretty too.
She's the best PSYCH professor you'll probably ever had! Yes, it can be really tough and her tests can be challenging BUT! she gives out the essay questions in class and her multiple choice q's are easy as long as you read the book! It can be overwhelming at first but you'll get used to it. I'm going to miss this class a lot! MUST TAKE HER!
This teacher starts class talking about something that I always had no idea about even though I read the book nightly and she always goes off tangents talking about who even knows what. worse teacher ever. she just reads a powerpoint that you can daze off into. worst teacher ever.
Best psych teacher at Grossmont. There's quizzes every week, but if you come to class or review her lectures, they're an easy 5 points. She tailors her exams to students and is very clear. The only thing I found challenging was her essay questions. But she gives you study guides to help with that. She's student oriented and I recommend taking her.
I love her so much. She's the reason why I actually want to stick with Psychology and major it. She explains everything beyond well. She makes everything interesting. She seems intimidating at first but then gets linient as the semester passes. She's amazing, I highly recommend her.
Challenging, but she gives you every chance to succeed if you're willing to put in effort. Her TA's were very helpful with study sessions, and she is too in her office hour. Great teacher if you are genuinely interested in learning and a challenge.
I was a nursing major before taking this class but Dr Ramos made this class so interesting that i am now a Psychology major. If you put in the effort you should receive an A. You have to work hard but go to class and actually study. She gives out a study guide and the essay questions which helps. Tough class but worth it. She is an amazing teacher.
Go to class, do the reading and go to the study sessions and ur golden. Dr. Ramos is helpful in office hours and her TA (Ashley) is a wonderful source if you can't get a hold of Ramos. No other class will give you this much support!
Absolutely loved this class. Dr. Ramos is an excellent instructor whose passion for neuroscience is contagious. It's not an easy class but if you go to every class and keep up on the reading, you should do just fine.
Very helpful and great learning environment and teaching style.
She is the bomb. shes reasonable and up date date on her information. She is young and relatable and an all around inspiration. I took her for intro and for bio psy. The material is challenging but the class itself is engaging and she uses grate examples and nalogies to help you grasp the concepts.
When I started this class I was intimidated by the depth of the material, I felt like I was in front of the female version of Einstein. By the second week, I was hooked on what I was learning, and wanted more, much more information on the complex subject. It has been fascinating and quite challenging in many levels.
I thought there would be no transformation in my mind during this lifetime; But, just with taking PSY-140 with Dr. Ramos my mind has awaken to new possibilities of true natures. It is like having proof of my own state of consciousness. I am no longer just attracted to a partial system as my mode of life her class has been welcomed as mental healing
may seem intimidating at first but overall great professor! she made this class awesome . Attend class at all times for her pop quizes. she does go quickly so your book & her powerpoints are handy. study for your test and you'll do great in her class .
This is not an easy A course. I thought that it being an intro class it would be easy. Received a B on every test but the final. That was an A. Make sure you are always in class for the quizzes. She grades on a total point scale so every point counts. Make sure you go to study sessions, it does help.
Professor Ramos is a nice teacher that is passionate about the topic of psychology. I learned quite a lot from her class and was able to receive a good grade without trying too hard.
I took this online class on summer and I have to say that is too much work for an eight week course. We read a whole 15 chapter textbook and had a 50 questions test and a discussion board post for each chapter as well plus the final exam so that makes it 16 exams in 8 weeks and 1 research paper. You pretty much have to learn everything from the text.
Awesome teacher! If you come to class and pay attention you will get a great grade. Lots of extra credit. Lots of quizzes (but if you pay attention and attend every class you will ace them.) Overall, you have to take her class. She's entertaining and very clear (and she's a freaking doctor!)
She is a great teacher! Her lectures are filled with tons of info. If you don't like reading I don't recommend this class. Her tests are based on the chapters that you have read. She gives a lot of quizzes but they're really easy because it's based on the stuff she recently lectured. Def. not an easy A, but this class is worth taking.
She's a nice (weird) teacher. Watch how you word your emails to her because she takes it offensive and rude. Make sure to say lots of "please and thank you " when emailing her. If you participate and do all extra credit you'll get an easy C+.
She is a great teacher. She is funny. Her teaching is great. She is respectful. Her personality is nice. Her lectures are great.
She is a very nice person and a fairly hard teacher. The textbook is insane with the amount of reading necessary :P
She is an amazing teacher. she is very clear. I recommend her so much for the people who really love studying. she makes me love what I am studying.
This class is NOT an easy A, but it lays the foundation for a lot of necessary knowledge. It's a lot of work, and was challenging. She does her best with all that she has to teach, though I sometimes wish she would do more than read off the slides. Also, word to the wise, take BIO 120 before this class or the first two exams will be challenging.
This class can be demanding, however she offers tons of extra credit and drops two exams. You will have an exam every week, discussion board with 3 postings to peers an average of paragraph per post and 1 research paper. I did average on my exams but scored high on my paper and did 1 extra credit and got an A..
This professor is awesome! She really knows the material and is up to date with research. She explains things well in class, has great and interesting lectures, and tells you the essay questions before the exam. Overall great class and she's very nice.
This is an online class. I took it because I'm busy with work and need a flexible schedule. This professor apparently doesn't understand the concept because she makes all assignments due in the middle of the day in the middle of the week. She also likes to call things by one name in the notes and another on the tests. Poor english skills, too.
This class was very challenging for me. The lectures are about the chapters you read, but aren't really that helpful on the tests. You have to read the chapters in depth. Even the questions on the test are very hard. She's a nice teacher, but very hard.
Prof. Ramos is a brilliant woman and awesome instructor. She has a nice air about her. She is welcoming and friendly. Her essay questions on tests require rather long-winded responses, that's my only gripe. You may want to invest extra attention to the book before a test, but its not necessary as a crutch. Her lectures are interesting and engaging.
I loved this class and the professor is great!
At first I thought I was not going to like her. But she turned out to be a wonderful teacher and was very interested in questions that I had that involved my personal life having to do with psychology. Make sure you do the readings and stay on top of the notes. Those are definitely the two keys to passing her exams.
Great teacher. Great class. Wouldn't mind taking her again. Although, she can be a little weird sometimes. She sometimes takes things that you say and makes them sound really wrong and makes you feel really uncomfortable. But despite from that, she's a great professor! Very organized. She's a neurosurgeon. So she definitely knows it all.
Amy is a wonderful teacher and her lectures are amazing. However, if you're looking for an easy A, don't take Amy's class. She expects students to be interested in what they are studying and respects hard working students. You'll learn a lot from Amy if you take her class!
I had originally failed this class when I took it with another teacher, but Amy helped me pass this class. She was very clear on her expectations, straight forward, and fun. She makes the class interesting and makes sure you understand the material, but the material can be VERY challenging.
I took Dr. Ramos' Physiological Psych class a few years ago and still remember things that she taught us. In other words, she is a great teacher who really knows and has a passion for the subject matter. If you want an A, you will need to work for it but it will be a rewarding journey. Definitely recommend Dr. Ramos.
Carrying more than 9 units? Take someone else. Speaks uber fast, so note taking is frenetic. Going to be a therapist? Take someone else. Going to be a neuro-scientist? Take this class. Over-emphasis on group projects, which are huge time parasites. Multiple choice questions are designed to confuse (her words) so do NOT neglect your reading.
Amy is a wonderful Professor. Her class is very difficult and she makes you work for an A. Her exams include multiple-choice questions and short answer questions, and you really need to be prepared to pass. There is also a group project but it's reasonably easy. She is very smart and knows a lot about neuroscience.
Tests are not the easiest! She did not give too much homework and definitely gave opportunities for extra credit
Psychology is not an easy course.. everyone makes it sound like psych is so simple but its really not. It takes time to really understand the whole concept of it and its not just mind reading. With that said, you need a professor like Dr. Ramos. She teaches psychology so good that its impossible for you to fail her class.
By any measure, a difficult class. DO NOT NEGLECT your reading! Dr. Ramos is tough but very fair, and expects her students to rise to the challenge. All the best professors do. The material is oh so fascinating, which makes the difficulty more manageable. Easily one of the most rewarding classes I've had the privilege to attend.
Definitely NOT an easy class. Syllabus says to read chapters before hand, DO IT or you will be lost. Group study is recommended. If you like to procrastinate and hate reading, I recommend you don't waste your time or her time. Dr. Ramos is very straight forward and knows her material, ask as many questions and learn as much as you can from her.
I LOVE DR. RAMOS! She is so nice and chill! Her lectures and interactive and definitely not boring. She's real, funny, sassy, and really great! Your grade depends on the exams so read every chapter assigned! Do not procrastinate on the research paper, and group presentation. You'll meet some people in the class, it's interactive. I LOVE DR. RAMOS!
She is an awesome teacher! Her class is tough but you definitely leave this class with a lot of knowledge. I would recommend her! She gives tons of extra credit opportunities and communicates very well. She makes the class fun and intriguing.
Outstanding Professor!! I have had the pleasure to take her challenging online course , and i have never encountered a class so engaging and thorough. Study diligently and you will have no problem in this class!!
Class was online. Discussions and Test once a week. Due dates were confusing sometimes. Better to work ahead, not procrastinate. Email responses were hit or miss. TAs often couldn't answer my questions. Class and book were 100% online. Don't bother with a paper book. Met her in person during Mental Health Week. Very nice and easy to talk to.
Dr. Amy Ramos is one of the best teachers I've had the pleasure of learning from. She is an expert of her industry and her knowledge is reflected in her presentations, which are wildly entertaining. She often mentions the effects of drugs on the brain, and seemed to enjoy the level of casual jokes this incites while maintaining a professional class
Professor Ramos cares about her students, and that really shows throughout her class. If you need help she's more than willing to help, and she always makes sure everyone understands what they need to do. There is a lot of work in this class, but nothing is extremely difficult you just need to make sure you get it all done. One of the best I've had
Basically every week you have an exam, discussion board and mindtap. She provides extra credit and is quick to respond. I left many things until last minute to the point where I was failing but worked extremely hard and ended up passing. I had an F and ended up with a C in the class.
Super great teacher, but this class was so much work. There were quizzes every week and tests, on top of the research project that she gives in the beginning of the class. I wish i would've put in more work, but I definitely took a lot out of this class. She is very knowledgable, but very specific in what she wants. Be ready for a lot of work.
I took the online 8 week course and I'm glad I did. Naturally you have more exams per week as well as homework but if you just read and understand the material you'll do fine. Week to week was pretty repetitive so it becomes easy to stay on top of work. No random stuff thrown your way.
Hard class with tons of material but very engaging. You wont pass without the book and lots of studying. Prof cares and knows everything about the subject. There is one major group project w/ a presentation. Tests have essay questions and multiple choice. Posted all presentations which were taken from book. If you do well on tests you'll be okay
I read every chapter that was assigned and studied my butt off and got an A+. Very good leacturer. The only thing I do not like about her is she sometimes screams at students. She did that to me once when I gave an answer to a question I didnt fully understand, which does not make for a good learning environment.
Online class and very very easy. There were no major assigments, only one quiz and 2 disscussion boards a week. I never opened the book.
She is one of the most qualified professors I have had. She is loaded with amazing information. She is hilarious and makes the classwork easy to remember. If you put in some effort- this class will be an easy A. Take notes. Skim through the chapters. You will be golden.
This class isn't so bad if you study, but it definitely is quite challenging. Dr. Ramos encourages students to seek higher education and even writes letters of recommendation. -uses Cengage as a study tool (not mandatory) -pop quizzes (super easy) -gives essay questions before the exam to study and memorize -major project near the end
I'm in my 3rd semester and am a straight A student-- this class destroyed me. Seriously questioned the morality/sanity of this prof because WHO assigns that much reading??? I tried and took notes but still scored low on weekly tests. Final was 4 small essays and 7 long-answer questions. Maybe online courses just aren't my thing, but be warned.
The only reason I wouldn't take this class again is because she lacked giving feedback. This course was drawn out for you to succeed. You will be reading many chapters, but do the homework and ace the quizzes and you will pass. 16 quizzes, 16 homework assignments, final is essay based, extra credit, do it. Don't take this class if you're lazy.
I'm currently taking her online class for winter session. You have to take her exams everyday by 5pm. She uses MindTap, it only allows you to go on there for X amount of time before it kicks you out telling you to take a break. If the class was 8 or 16 weeks long it wouldn't be hard. If you have other obligations you may want to reconsider.
If you are reading this & serious about psychology dont even think about it. Just register, this class and professor will help you build your foundation for social science in general. It has many bio elements to it but after you become comfortable the terms it becomes compelling.
Professor Ramos is a great professor, her lectures were informative, all the quizzes and exams were online. You do need to read the textbook and there was a big group project that was difficult that was due at the end of the semester. She is very helpful and knowledgeable on the topic.
Ramos was extremely accommodating and understanding during the online shift due to COVID. Overall, this class is pretty difficult if you're not into biology. Because of COVID, the class was made much easier. Great person and teacher, but the material can be quite difficult.
Overall a decent class. Chapter tests each week w/ discussion boards and mastery training. The online layout was relatively easy to follow, and there was a written comprehensive final at the end. I highly recommend keeping your notes organized because they will be useful for the final. Lots of content, and a very informative class.
Professor Ramos was a great teacher. The online format made it very easy to follow every week. It was clear what was expected of you. Weekly quizzes, weekly homework, weekly discussions. Do your work and you will pass! Skim through chapters! There was however a lack of feedback besides that great class and informational and fun to learn about.
I recommend Professor Amy, she is amazing. She indeed has many exams and discussions, but it is easy and not intense in addition to that everything is clear and easy to understand. She deserves to be praised by students.
gave a 2 b/c of severe lack of feedback and communication from my experience with her. i had been emailing her for a week to ask for my grade and she wouldn't tell me, which was frustrating to say the least. tests are easy, skim the book. lots of extra credit. easy discussions. course isn't challenging and is basically drawn out for you to pass.
You don't need the textbook honestly, just study her slides and you'll do fine. Weekly discussions, exams, and homework on each chapter which are quite easy and straightforward if you actually study. If you procrastinate easily and don't like a lot of reading, don't take this class; especially if you're taking it in 6 weeks, it's very fast paced.
She is a great professor there was just a lot of work as expected. Lots of exams with a lot of questions and weekly discussions which were fun to participate.
Her class consists of textbook reading, exams, & discussion posts. What made me give her a 2-star rating was her EXTREME lack of communication. It would take days for her to respond to my messages and majority of the time, she read them and would simply ignore them. Didnt make me feel like my education, needs, and concerns were important or valued
Ramos honestly sucks. She is literally basing the discussion boards off of topics that have absolutely nothinggg to do with the book. She's completely unresponsive when I message her and also doesn't give clear grading criteria. All grades are locked until the end of the semester so you can't see anything. The sheer lack of communication is insane.
Absolutely no communication. Avoid. She ignores messages until you've annoyed her enough with emails.
The Exams start back to back , with no time to study, you have to read whole 60 page chapters, its hard to retain info with every single day a new chapter to learn and exams daily, bad class.
Took 140 online. Doesnt let you know grade until the END of the semester so you have to calculate it yourself and be sure to study the material to pass exams. No communication or office hours. Syllabus isnt very informative. weekly exams with 100 % online class.
An actually awful online class experience. I understand that it's an eight-week course but I've received NO actual feedback from the professor and like the other posts have said you don't know what your actual grade is until the end of the semester. Every week is just quizzes and discussion boards.
Worst online class I have ever taken! A very accelerated class and only 8 weeks. The class isn't crazy difficult, a lot of reading and tests but I had little to no interaction with the professor at all and she doesn't grade anything until the last week! I asked about EC 3 times in the semester and it wasn't released until Wed of week 8!
Awful online class! Avoid this professor at all costs. The amount of reading, the lack of guidance, the lack of communication, when and if she responds she will make you feel like you are the problem. I did well in the class, but I struggled a great deal with little to no support to pull off a good grade.
Nothing has been graded yet and we are far into the class. It is hard to know what you need to do in order to succeed and there is little to no communication from this professor.
You will probably not know what your grade is or where you stand in the class until it is too late. I emailed this professor many times to ask for updated grades and she ignored me all semester. All the homework with little to no feedback has not been helpful.
Take anyone else. She doesn't communicate. You'll struggle all semester because the content is absolutely bogus.
Professor Ramos did not post lectures. Instead once a week, an 80 slide presentation would be unlocked, with no narration or guidance. The questions on the weekly tests are straight from the book. The weekly discussion boards had nothing to do with the material we learned and are not graded until the end of the semester. Would not recommend her.
Dr. Ramos made intro to psych really fun, and discussion questions were challenging. If you do your reading and participate in class discussions you will have no issues with the test. Weekly exams on Canvas (read questions carefully), final exam was essay questions. All exams were open book (I took the 8 wk online only class).
Nonexistent professor. Assignments sat ungraded until the end of the semester so you have no idea what your grade is at any point. Very difficult content with no direction or feedback from professor. Strangely, she also made us do 4 goal setting assignments- irrelevant to the course, too personal of questions, and very uncomfortable to answer.
I took this class to get more credits in for the winter. Thinking it was going to be a fun lecture where I could be myself. That took a turn once I started on the first day. WE had to do 5 chapters a week with discussions and tests. Beware of many tests and many discussions that will leave you dried out completely for the weekends. BEWARE!
She is a lazy teacher. I could never get in contact with her like I would email her 3 times with no response.. I did still get an A in the class but it didn't make it any less frustrating. A majority of her grading is done by her TA and most of the homework will not even be graded before she closes canvas so your grade will be a surprise!
This class covers a TON of really interesting material, which can be overwhelming, but good study skills will get you an A. Dr. Ramos is extremely knowledgeable, caring, and very funny. She wants her students to succeed and will help you however she can. Absolutely awesome class/professor. Highly recommend for anyone interested in neuroscience.
Great Professor, she was willing and able to assist with any questions I had about the course.
Dr. Ramos is a consistent and fair professor. Extremely knowledgeable about the subject of Neuroscience. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. She is invested in seeing her students succeed and if you communicate with her due to having unexpected life issues, she will work with you. Just be honest. This class was fun
good professor overall, but if you don't read the chapters you will not do good in the course. There will be a presentation towards the end (10-15 mins) worth 100 points, and it was honestly really hard. Discussions are kind of hard too and are related towards the chapters. So be aware and make sure to read everything!!!
This class was amazing, I love everything about it and all the work we had done. Do the work and you will be successful student easily. the professor she was fantastic.
LOVED HER!!! Very very tough class but she teaches well and gives amazing feedback for improvement. You really need to study and really immerse you
Read 2 chapters, two discussions, and an exam(with no prep quiz and very limited time) each week followed by extra assignments not aligned with the class prep and a large project at the end. She was at times very unclear with instructions which caused deduction in points. Very late grader on assignments. Lecture vids were just rereading slides :/
The class was actually very easy if I studied. But she was not a good instructor. Her instructions are pretty vague (doesn't clarify to respond to others in discussion boards, etc.) The final exam for this class was 7 "essay" questions- I knew people who only did 2 questions who got the SAME SCORE as others who did all 7. Passive aggressive too..
50 min time limit for 50 qs with written answers as well, never know how many written questions an exam has. Did not grade anything until the last Sunday of the course. gave NO FEEDBACK on any assignment. Final exam was 7 small essays. Gave the same score to students who only answered 2 qs as those who answered all 7. Do not recommend
Prof. Ramos runs a tough but rewarding class. Tough exams, but she's passionate and helpful if you put in the work. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for exam prep.
She is very nice but the material is so hard. The amount of work she expects us to do in a week is ridiculous. And the topics are very hard too. One is a paper, the other is an exam, two others are long discussion boards that make no sense of the material. Her neuroscience class is very hard I do not recommend
Her physiological psych class is very difficult. She expects you to have 5 assignments due within the same week but waits until the last week of the semester to put in grades. She also expects you to do a 50 question exam, with multiple short answer questions within 50 minutes. She isn't clear with instructions at all either. Do not take her course!
Would constantly create new modules out of nowhere and not tell us but expect us all to finish them all one to two days before they put the due date. They also will take point away from your grades if you do not share enough about your personal life on the exam questions for their liking.
Been waiting for my assignments to be graded for months. The textbook is far more interesting than the class and professor. Honestly feel the class assignments aren't clear and confusing.
3 exams, no final exam but it is a ~20 min presentation. The class is basically a 16 week long project, everything you do is contributing to your research project (which you can have partners for) so make sure not to miss 1 thing because it sets every other assignment back. the class is super long and somewhat boring (~3 hrs) but necessary i guess.
I'd say this class was pretty difficult. The professor isn't great at grading anything, still waiting on 5 things to be graded so late into the semester. However, the exams are similar to her lectures and the big research presentation was easy to understand. Overall, the one thing she can improve on is her grading abilities. I took her 8 week class
If you work and do school I wouldn't recommend this course. The professor is nice and passionate about the course but the workload was way to much and having other classes just honestly could make you super overwhelmed the directions aren't very clear either.
This class was difficult, but as long as you put in the effort and study, you're fine! My main complaint was that you basically have to teach yourself the content, as the "lectures" she provides are just slides. Personally, I did not mind, but I'd say take her in person if you do. Professor Ramos is very kind and genuinely wants you to succeed!
Great Professor!! I would definitely take her again. It was a lot of work but not too heavy, which I was expecting since this was an 8 week course but the assignments were short and easy to do. I actually learned from her slides and videos! She gives great detailed feedback and genuinely wants you to succeed.
very nice class
