v. friendly; used to smarter kids; moves very fast; tests very difficult
Hottie
easy on the eyes, nice, easy to understand
Poor me, poor me, poor me another shot of wiskey
Dr. Rogers rocks my world! She genuinely cares about her students and about the subject she's teaching...clear and laid-back, willing to go way out of her way for those who show her some effort...funny as hell and a great teacher to boot!
Best chem teacher I've ever had. Makes chemistry fun. Deffinitely take her if you can ever be so lucky.
The absolute hardest tests!! If you are planning to pass chemistry stear away from Rogers. But on the otherhand if you really want to learn chemistry this might be the class for you.
She is HOT. HOT. Funny as hell, always going about her merry way. She is helpful and fair. You will have a good time. She's hot too! Ha!
She is VERY nice and always willing to help! she is an AMAZING teacher however her tests are VERY hard-if you want to learn chemistry I would definitlytake her but if you could care less about the material and just want a good grade take Krantzman!
Rogers does have hard tests, like nothing I have seen before, but you WILL know your chemistry. This class teaches you to study hard which you will need in organic chemistry etc. If you plan to take the MCAT, she is the prof for you!
Everything in class seems so easy and clear...until the tests! Easy grader, except there are 10 multiple choice that can kill your grade. SUPER TOugh! Showing her extra effort doesn't help you at all. Super laid back, but it's all to fool you...HARD
holy crap, SO hard!
She's very helpful. If you pay attention, study, and do the homework you can do well. She makes class interesting and fun. I liked this class a lot!!
Look, I took the lab at 730 in the morning, and you know, I don't know where she got the energy, but she had it. She is an excellent teacher for serious students, you'll have to know your s***. You'll know some movie trivia to, she's fun, and loves a specific candy, and maybe the cereal now!
One of the best chemistry teachers I've ever had. Very pretty woman who tries to keep everyone interested in the class. She knows the material so well that sometimes is baffled by others not understanding, but willing to assist you if you fall by the wayside.
I'm a Bio major (A student), class seems easy until the tests. Be prepared for questions out of nowhere to "separate the A student from everyone else" said Rogers. Nice and bubbly willing to help but self-admitted hard tests!!!
she is an outstanding teacher who cares more that her students really understand the material than anything else. you can tell that she loves the subject, and her classes are a blast. i have never learned so much in just one semester. remember that studying is key...you can't just breeze by in this class. Definately teacher of the year material.
She is a very nice lady and will go out of her way to help you out. She makes sure that you understand the material taught in lecture. The exams do not reflect what she went over in lecture. Some of the exams we had the entire class failed them. Great lady but would never take her class again.
The class was my favorite class this semester. She really knows how to get the material through to you if you're willing to learn it. She has a crazy sense of humor and always trys to lighten up the day. Her tests are difficult, but I don't think I ever failed one. You definately want to study, but h ell, this isn't 102..
Dr. Rogers is REALLY a nice person and fun to have as a teacher. However, her tests are VERY hard! I have always been a straight A student and have yet to get an A on any of her tests. The homework problems are math based but the tests are mostly theory. Even if you think you know the material, the questions come out of nowhere.
She is a very nice person, but her tests are way too hard. The questions are very involved and there is a lot of material that is crammed into one semester, but that is the course not the professor. She is willing to help anyone. A very nice open classroom atmosphere.
If you expect to pass you need to find someone's old tests who took her and study them. That is the only way you can get an A.
Dr. Rogers is HAAAAAAARRRD... but I mean all chemistry at CofC is hard. She gave extra credit to help us out, but the quizes everyday are bound to screw you over. Tests are waaay out of left field, nothing like lecture. Take Dr. Taylor!
one of the best professors at CofC! don't pass up the opportunity to be in her class! come prepared to study every night and expect the unexpected on the tests. hard class, but definitely worth it.
INSANELY HARD CLASS!!! ( Although Biochem isn't supposed to be a walk in the park) If you can hold off for a semester to take someone else...DO IT! She's helpful outside of class but still shows no mercy on her tests. She will offer extra credit, but if you're failing those hard butt tests...doesn't really mean anything with extra points.
First of all the person that talked about her not getting tenure is an idiot! She is an awesome teacher and helped out as much as I needed...and that was a lot. She rocks!!!
application questions that make you think. as in - its a stretch to get the answer. she may never go over a type of problem in class, and just do the book or slide problems, then the test has VERY RANDOM WTF questions. hard if you are not good at critical thinking. nice lady but I wouldn't take her again. I feel it was overcomplicated.
She is fun and entertaining, but a bit unclear unless you are really confident with the ideas already. Tests are pretty tough and math is emphasized. She won't be mad if you miss a class, and she is really understanding. I would suggest going to class though because she moves pretty fast.
Although her tests are challenging, she teaches really well. By far, best chemistry teacher I have had. She challenges students with her tests, but her lectures are clear and engaging. I only took this class as a requirement for my major, and it made me appreciate chemistry so much more.
This has been the hardest class I have ever taken. I do not advise taking this class if you are not prepared to dedicate hours each week studying and then still be alright with the fact that you still may fail the tests. Dr. Rogers is helpful and fun but her tests are impossible and I felt very discouraged.
Hard, don't take unless you have infinite free time , nice lady she really does try and she's not going to rip you off and send everyone failing but very frustrating
Very nice and sweet professor, always willing to help, her class though is extremely hard, she has these ridiculously hard tests and does not give much of a curve on. The final exam was standardized but it was also really hard, they had to curve the final 20 points, if you can avoid this class, do it. This was an elective for me... BIG mistake
Dr. Rogers is a very hard teacher. She prides herself in making the tests beyond difficult. She is a very nice person, though and wants the best for you as a student. Make sure you get to know her because she is willing to help. You have quizzes daily that are supposed to be super easy but arent. Her notes are very good and are the basic material.
Sweet lady, really nice and willing to help out but she is not a very good professor. Her tests are insanely hard and she does not do a very good job about being clear about what she is trying to teach. If you are Chemistry savvy, take this class, if not it will DESTROY your GPA. She is a funny professor though... that is a major plus.
Nice Lady, but unless you're already chemistry savvy she's unwilling to help. The practice problems she gives you DO NOT reflect her test, so even if you can do the hw there's no guaranteeing you'll do well on the test. Super frustrating class, but if you're a chem whiz you'll find it the right amount of challenging.
She's a super nice woman and she's extremely funny, but her tests are beyond awful. She'll warn you about them, but no matter how much I studied, I never really felt prepared enough. Oh well. Good luck!
She's an awesome woman and I love her class so much. I've always hated chem but she's really made it easy to understand and get the big picture. You have to be willing to study A LOT, she prepares you for putting in the effort. Love her, but don't expect to get an A without trying a lot.
Awesome professor! High energy, very intelligent, great personality all around BUT her class is VERY hard. She tests at a very difficult level, but her tests are fair and she grades them very fairly. Be ready to learn and be ready for a challenge. Getting an "A" is very difficult but it is possible.
AWESOME teacher, very helpful. Very hard tests.
WORST chemistry teacher ever! RUN AWAY. Her tests are hard and impossible. DO NOT take her if you don't have a strong chem background. You will fail.
Avoid her!!!! She made me want to give up on my dream of being a doctor. Her test are to hard. She is a fun teacher but fun is not worth it if you are going to FAIL.
Dr Rogers is a great prof. She is extremely smart and quick witted. Her class is tough and her exams are brutal, but you will learn chemistry. I found reading the book helpful. Nothing will prepare you for her exams. It has to make her feel bad to watch her students do poorly on the exams, but I believe she has her students best interest at heart
Really hard tests, may God be with you.
Dr Rogers gets some bad reviews from students who can't handle her exams. Her exams are extremely tough, but she is an amazing teacher. The road to becoming a doctor should be difficult! I think the hard exams will only help those that keep pushing forward. Oh, and she is easy on the eyes
Cheap shot questions on her tests. The test itself is easy but there just isn't enough time to even be able to think about each question. There's a difference between hard and cheap. This is cheap because its not giving anyone a fair shot at things we know. Btw in my class no one finished the exam on time. NOT A SINGLE PERSON.
RUN AWAY! If you are not a chem wiz, then find another tearcher. She is a great person but her test are brutal! If you do not know absolutely everything about ever single topic she covers, then do not expect to pass. She seemed to almost get annoyed that 90% of the class failed every test after about the third one. Little to no extra credit opps.
Dr. Rogers is difficult, but only if you don't listen to her advice. She is up-front about the fact that her tests are difficult and that she is very strict about knowing the material. If you have trouble in her class, she will always be willing to help and explain problems to you. She provides more application than concept in her lecture, so study
Dr. Rogers is amazing. She will make you work, but it is worth it. She will prepare you for what lies ahead. If you are unsure about a chemistry/biochem major, take this class. You will know.
Dr. Rogers is one of the hardest teachers that I've ever had. The course material is challenging but she presents it very clearly. I had to attend SI to keep up with the material, but I'm glad that I took her class. I learned so much. If I had to do it again I wouldn't change professors. Plus, passing her course is the best feeling, trust me!
She is a very nice woman and tells interesting stories, but her tests are ridiculously difficult. They are nothing like the practice problems she goes over in class. I went to SI and still did not understand the material. She doesn't teach, she just goes through the material once and moves on. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Extremely knowledgeable in what she teaches -- almost too much! Expects her students to work hard and have a strong Chem background (which I didn't have). She is so sweet and is very willing to help you understand the course, but that doesn't mean she will 'baby' the student. An amazing woman who pushes students to their limits.
Sad face :( Takes hard to another level.
She's very nice, and helped clear things up in lab that weren't as clear in lecture. She is an easy grader on lab reports.
Wonderful person who pushes her students to the limit. She only wants the best for them and does everything she can to see that they have every opportunity to get a good grade. We were given tests back to have a 2nd chance on 2 occasions. Of course the material is difficult though. Also, she is hard to arrange meetings with because she is so busy
At least she is better than Dr. Doig, overall really hard course.
I hate chemistry. Dr. Rogers chem lab was one of the most enjoyable classes I have ever taken. She helped me study for my lecture class too and is probably the only reason I passed it. I haven't met many teachers that care as much as she does about making sure her students enjoy coming to class and are successful. Also a total babe
She is nice and funny and all that, but her tests are very difficult, she expects you to work hard and is willing to work with you if you get stuck. But, again the tests are harder than it needs to be. This is a 112 course, class average should not be in the 60s. Either way she is good person, but not so much a great teacher.
She has a great personality, but brutal on the exams. If you're thinking about becoming a chemistry major, then take her class, but for pre-med she is tougher than others.
Dr Rogers is a great teacher who presents the information clearly and is willing to help as much as possible. Her tests are KILLER but you will survive if you're willing to put in the effort. She makes you work for what you get and expects you to KNOW the material.
Her tests are impossible. Avoid her at all costs. You can do all of her practice problems but the questions on the test will be nothing like them. If you get stuck with her I suggest dropping the class and waiting until you can take someone else.
Dr. Rogers is an amazing professor. She is extremely hard but she does not pride herself on students struggling. She genuinely wants her students to do well. She is the best teacher that CofC has. Although her test will make you cry, nobody will teach you the material better. I would take her again 100%.
It's obvious on here- tough tests. But aside from that, Dr. Rogers is a superb professor. She truly does care, and she's fair. It was the most challenging class thus far for me, and I was thrilled with my B-.. But, I definitely learned an incredible amount of material, especially for summer. Plus, she's brilliant and funny. I recommend her.
Yes, Dr. Rogers has killer tests. However, she truly cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She drops your lowest test grade and if you go to her office hours she's extremely helpful. By making the class difficult, the exam is easier than expected. Take her!!! She's so sweet and you'll learn a lot!
By far the best teacher I've ever had. Dr. Rogers class is extremely difficult but definitely passable. She makes you work for the grades but at the end of semester you will definitely understand the material. She is ALWAYS willing to help out in office hours and SI is definitely a plus. She makes class fun and is a really nice person. TAKE
Very funny enthusiastic teacher, makes the class interesting. Tests are tough, gives a lot of practice problems to help. Super into chemistry and such a sweet lady! Love her highly recommended, would take again.
I was a CS major, also a non -traditional student. I received a dep. scholarship, membership to NHS, dep. award, and graduated with a 3.5. Dr. Rogers' class is singularly focused on being difficult. Why? I was interested, smart, and motivated. She ruined it for me, and cost me time, which was an invaluable commodity for a parent/worker/student...
I've only had her for lab, but Dr. Rogers was a great teacher and really funny and laid-back. She's friendly and always willing to help you figure the experiments out if you show her you're serious about getting your work done. Take her! She's really nice
I took Dr. Rogers over the summer. I wouldn't take a science for summer ever again. But Amy Rogers made it easier than it should have been. The tests are tough, she is known for that. She would ask you the question directly, she makes you think. Practice problems all the time. In the end, she helps out the student, she understands.
Best teacher ive ever had. Cares about you and wants you to succeed. Hard tests but the class is difficult so the tests have to be hard. Very good at teaching and will do anything she can for you to understand.
Rogers is the greatest professor I've ever had. she works with you, teaches great and is super funny. but her test are HARD. do the problems in the book and you will be prepared for 112 definitely. she's such a great caring person and really works with you. is willing to meet with you any time you need too
Her personality does not match her tests, but she is very fluid with your final grade. If you work for it, and show her your improvement in understanding and work ethic, she helps you out. MAKE SURE YOU DO WELL ON HER FINAL EXAM, this could mean the difference between letter grades. Take her if you want to learn chemistry, and not just pass it.
Dr. Rogers is one of the best professors I have ever had. Most of the other reviews are correct about her too. She gives hard tests but if you plan on being a science major she will teach you everything you need and teach it well.
AMAZING human being and so funny. Had a special connection with her immediately. Difficult class but if you do the work and pay attention you will pass and even do really well. Go to her study hours, ask questions, she will help you as long as you put in the effort. Lots of equations and vocabulary, VERY difficult tests.
Best teacher I have ever had!! True connection and so easy to get along with. Really makes you enjoy the subject atleast with her teaching it. Test are pretty hard but if you are well prepared they are a breeze. Lots of study time, DO NOT procrastinate and cram the night before or you will fail.
Dr. Rogers is a wonderful, knowledgeable and hilarious professor! Although the subject matter and tests are challenging she truly makes it fun and interesting! I learned so much and will miss this class. TAKE HER!!!
Such a nice lady and very approachable, but do not let that fool you! The material is hard and she tends to make it even more complicated with her lectures, which are often pretty confusing and all over the place. Make sure you do the homework and practice. Also, the study guides are pointless too broad and her syllabus schedule is a complete mess.
She's an amazing professor she just moves fast. If you get left behind make sure to go to SI or office hours because youll be left behind in class. She really cares more about you knowing how to do it rather than memorizing facts. She will give mystery credit for attending office hours and SI. HW not required but helpful.
Her class may make you feel stressed at first, but she is caring for her students. She takes time out of her schedule to hold review sessions for her students. Go to SI, go to class everyday, apply yourself and you will appreciate chemistry.
Dr. Rogers is super caring and is very knowledgeable when it comes to chemistry. Although I do like the professor, I would NOT recommend taking Chem to fulfill your gen ed requirement. This class is WAY too difficult for non-majors. Information is kind of thrown at you and it can be kind of stressful so make sure you go to every class!!
I worked my butt off in this class, but no amount will prepare you for a test that doesnt match the lectures or readings. She taught organic chemistry in a class thats supposed to be a intro to chemistry. I have gone to every help session, gotten tutored, watched online videos, but still cry every other day simply because of her and her class.
Now listen. This woman has a lot of controversy over her regarding if she is a good prof or not. Overall she will make you understand chemistry and probably make you like it. BUT her tests are incredibly difficult, to a point where you will feel incompetent. Overall MY EXPERIENCE has been great. Having her as a prof was incredible and I liked her.
If you aren't a science major and are just fulfilling a GenEd then don't take her. She is rly kind and will answer any questions you have and you'll understand most concepts. The issue is that her tests are MAD hard every Q on the test will be 3x harder than anything practiced. She gives mystery credit so play nice and ace the national exam.
She wants everyone to pass. If you are struggling, talk to her and she will help as much as she can.
Hard tests
Dr. Rogers is a very very tough professor. If you truly want to do well in this class you have to prove that you are willing to go far and beyond. Tests are TOUGH, and you will make bad grades in this class. Besides that, Dr. Rogers is an excellent chemistry professor and she wants you to succeed.
A super nice, chill, and understand professor. She makes chemistry enjoyable and was very flexible which I appreciated. She definitely cares about her students. The final exam was pretty hard but it was curved. I recommend her.
I love Professor Rogers. Youre going to have to work and involve yourself because of the material, but she explains things in the clearest possible way. Shes engaging and clear, really enjoy her class. I know some people do find her tests hard though.
Dr. Rogers is a great prof and wants her students to understand the material so most topics are thoroughly explored. She's super chill and kind but writes tests with a passion so study hard. That being said, the tests are very rewarding if you do prepare. Notes are very organized and will occasionally involve students in lectures which is a plus
For CHEM 111, Dr. Rogers will definitely prepare you for the type of problem solving and thinking involved in the MCAT, standardized exams and upper level courses. She designs her exam so that you will really have to understand the concepts instead of just memorizing. Shes very energetic and up lifting.
I had Dr. Rogers for Chemistry 111 last year, and although it was a difficult class, she is more than willing to work with you. Getting to know her personally will help you in the long run. She is there to help you, and she sets you up for more difficult classes that come later in your college career.
Professor Rogers is such a great teacher. I had her for lab and she gives the best feedback so that you know what to fix for the next assignment. There is a lot of work outside of class, but that is how lab can be. However, she is a really fair grader and explains things so that everyone understands. Definitely take her if you can.
Shes very intelligent and knows her stuff, but most of her tests are way more difficult than the problems in class. Definitely do the problem sets ahead of time and use her office hours. Shes willing to work with you, but Its a lot of effort to pass and/or do well in this class. I like her more now that I know what to expect.
I had her for both lab and lecture, shes a great lab instructor and it was an easy A if you do the work. Lecture is significantly more challenging.
Dr. Rogers is sweet and fun but her tests are hard! I spent so many hours studying for her class and still only ended up with a C The test questions are really difficult and were sometimes different from the practice questions. Grade came from tests, no quizzes. If you want to do well make sure to understand the concepts and go to office hours.
Biochem is a difficult class but Prof Rogers explains topics in the clearest way possible. If you put in the work in and outside of class; her exams are incredibly rewarding. Her notes are the most organized thing I have ever seen & she is transparent about memorization. Lectures are upbeat and fun to attend, and going to class will not be a chore.
Make sure to read the textbook as most of the conceptual questions come from there; pay attention; she does a great job using visual examples for chem content.
Class is super hard. She's a nice lady but a super hard teacher.
She is a very difficult professor but incredibly sweet and willing to work with you. She prepares you super well for future chemistry classes and wants you to succeed. Don't be scared if you fail a test (I did), she drops a test and offers extra credit.
Dr. Rogers is super personable, cares a lot more about student learning than grades on paper, and tries to connect with her students. The course is difficult- lots of content, fast pace. Attendance isn't required, but she's more likely to give extra credit if you attend. Definitely go on days discussing assigned reading (Vanity), it's on the tests.
If there is another teacher, take them instead. Made a gen Ed class extremely difficult. Again if there is another teacher, take them instead.
Dr. Rogers cares that you know the material. Not memorizing the porblems or equations but actually being able to problem solve. She gives chances to get a higher grade and recognizes effort.
Professor. Rogers will make any non-Chem student interested in the course!!! She is very aware of how hard the curriculum is and shows kindness to her students. As long as you show up & do the labs, you should have no problem with this class. Prof. Rogers is amazing, take your lab with her!!!
Super fun in lab, and helps a lot with the lecture section too.
Very nice and personable lady, definitely cares about your success even if you're not good at chem. Her lectures are great, but her tests were SO hard. I studied for this class more than any other and still struggled so much.
I loved her, she cares a lot for her students, although her class is very difficult, she taught me how to be a better student and study the right way.
This class is test based. If you do bad or score low there's no way you can raise your grade. She's nice but compared to my friends chem professors they were given a lot of material they can use to study. All she gives is a worksheet and the material in them is easy compare to the material in the tests.
Dr. Rogers is definitely one of the best chemistry professors at the college. Her class is hard, there is a ton of information, and you have to know it inside and out. Her tests are insanely difficult, but not impossible. She does a great job at teaching a very difficult subject. You have to work for an A, but I learned so much from her.
She's very nice and caring about her students, but she cannot lecture good. The lecture was hard to follow and all over the place. Her tests are also extremely hard. They did not make sense to the course material we learned in class. This class work was so bad that I had to withdraw to save my gpa and made me change my major from chemistry.
Class is Biochem 1 and 2 in one semester which forces some topics to be glossed over which necessitates brute force memorization. Tests are extremely difficult especially the multiple choice which asks for a comprehensive understanding of biochemical principles while only the surface area is lectured. Great lecturer but bad idea for a class
Not a single grade was put into Oaks throughout the entire semester. During midterms my class average was a d-. Tests are nothing like the questions on the homework but are the majority of your grade. Does give partial credit on exam questions.
Professor Rogers runs a challenging but rewarding class. The exams are tough, but she's willing to work with you. Attendance is a must, and the textbook is essential. I found Unstuck ai and practice problems really helpful for prepping. Overall, a great course that prepares you well for future chemistry classes.
Listen her tests are hard but so is Organic Chemistry so there really isn't a way around it. She tries really hard to help you succeed in this class with extra credit, personal meetings, and HW/Quizzes. You can tell she really cares and tries to help everyone at least pass her class. She even curves tests if she notices the class struggled.
Do not get me wrong. This class was very challenging, but so rewarding. Dr. Rogers cares more that you learn the material than she does about a number on a piece of paper. If you go to class, go to her office hours, and you participate in class she will work with you, but you do have to work for your grade no matter what.
I could write paragraphs about how great of a teacher Dr. Rogers is. She makes coming to class every day such a pleasure and is a shining light at CofC. She is funny, joyous, and so passionate about Chem and carries so much enthusiasm as she teaches. She will always be highlight for me as I think about my college experience. Absolutely love her
Dr Rogers is so funny and helped us out when our lecture teacher wasn't teaching us the right material in class. So sweet and funny I would 100% take any course she offers.
Amazing and caring professor! Great teaching style, comes up with alot of analogy to help students remember the contents. Be prepared to study beyond typical amounts compared to a different professor teaching this same class. Exams are like a mystery puzzle, but she isn't hard on grading the free response.
Dr. Rogers really wants her students to succeed and understand the material. Hardest class I've taken, and a lot of effort needs to be put in outside of class to pass. Practice problems and attending SI is the best thing you can do. Tests are hard and majority of your grade. Random extra credit but you have to be in class to receive it.
