She makes test question striaght from the book. So read before the tests!

Great lecturer, guaranteed not to fall asleep, unless the subject is bland. Don't know how her tests are yet, will find out on Monday. Have to participate in an experiment for 2 hours or you get in incomplete- not mentioned in the course catalogue.

Very Clear and Interesting professor, it is a very large class, but she makes it feel very friendly.

She is the BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. I wish i could take her for every class i am required to. Her class is the only class i have ever liked at UMD, and she made me want to change my major to PSY.

I got an A in the class. I took good notes, and just studied those for the exams. Her lectures are casual and interesting.

Made me want to change my major to psych too! She is easy if you do your part (take notes, read, etc.). And she's FUNNY! Probably my favorite prof at UMD!

shes interresting and is interested in the course. She gives ntertaining stories that help you remember. My only problem with her is that shes one of them scientists who only beleives in the provable and dissreguards all else, but that doent affect the class. she not quite hot but she kinda cute

She's very helpful. A nice person and she gives great examples. You have to go to class. I found her tests a bit challenging. But you will learn things.

If you can't pass this class with a B or over, you must be clinically retarded or brain dead. She gives extra credit for ATTENDING CLASS and her tests consist of multiple choice questions that are too easy to be found in a high school class. I adored this class.

I like her. She is a genuine person. I'll admit though, that the class did get boring at times. She gives out extra credit just for going to class, which really saved me. I did not study for one test and I passed with a B. The tests were a little challenging, but nothing impossible. I recommend her.

Oh man, this class was hard. BUT, Dr. Shapiro is a really good teacher and she obviously loves what she does. It shows in her teaching. She teaches very hard material, but she does it well and I would recommend this class anytime.

Dr. Shapiro is a fair, smart, awesome teacher! Her tests consist of what was covered in the class lecture & the information in the textbook. She makes her class interesting & made me happy to attend. Only complaint: On more than one occasion she happily stated, "Speaking as someone from a PHd perspective..."

Shes a great lady, dont get me wrong, but its just so boring. Her tests I think are difficult, but she drops the lowest test grade. You have to do a 2 hour experiment as well. I mean, if you have to take this class, she is the best one to take it with.

Her tests are very clear, and, if you study a lot, very clear. Always read the sidebars and introductions of every chapter!! One of the best professors I had; her lectures made me want to come to class. I got an A, but not without a fair amount of studying. She's a great teacher, and if you're engaged, you will be rewarded.

This class was very hard. I worked my butt off to get a decent grade in this class. You need to study ALOT, there is no way around it.

Great teacher. No need to even buy the book if you show up to every class and take notes. Just study your notes from class and get at least a 90 on her exam. 4 exams per semester; lowest grade dropped. 2 hour experiment requirement, but this is in any PSY101 class. She is really nice, funny, and willing to answer any questions.

This class is very boring. I concentrate more on not falling asleep than listening to her and taking notes. The tests are hard, too, but not impossible.. just study, a lot.

In my opinion Dr. Shapiro is an excellent teacher. Her class is not boring if you are interested in learning about yourself and others and she is funny, logical, smart, caring. I don't study as much as I should for her tests and get 80's, if I studied moderately well I would get A's. She is very understanding of her students. No one is better.

the class isnt hard unless you make it hard on yourself.. if you never show up to class obviously youll do terrible on a test.. but if you show up and print her notes offline shes really not hard

watch the pop quizzes. she counts all of them.

Amazing teacher. She is there for you when ever you need help in anything not just PSY. She gives quizzes every once and awhile but if you go that class then its an easy A. She is funny and loves what she teaches making it fun. TAKE HER CLASS!

Prof. Shapiro is amazing! Her lectures are fascinating and interesting. The tests and quizzes are very easy if you attend the lectures, their also worded simply. Really nice and makes class interesting. She puts her slide show on her website so you don't really need to take notes. Pop quizzes are very random, she gives 10. Tests are based on the slide shows, a little from the texts and questions are a little confusing. Must complete 2 hours of experiments in order to complete this class. TAKE HER CLASS!!!

If you go to class and look over the lecture slides, which she posts online, before the tests, its easy.

She is cool, but totally crazy. If you go to class and listen to her not so boring lectures, you will do fine. Her tests are worded kinda funny, but they aren't hard. You don't use the text book. She does ask I-clicker questions daily though, so you need to go to class. Take the class, it's a breeze.

Shapiro is one of my favorite teachers. She keeps the class very interesting and I actually don't mind going. You have to go to class because she does iclicker questions which add up to a test grade. Definitely take this class/teacher

She's really funny and articulates everything perfectly well. She has class slides that have all the information in it. Her anecdotes are a nice comic relief, and she's very simple about everything. Tests are a little long, but they seem to be simple if you've paid enough attention. Attendance isn't required, but it will come test time.

Shes a great teacher knows her stuff. Tests are really hard even if you study some of her questions are tricky. She makes you use the iClicker which forces you to go every class. You have to do 2 hours of psychology experiements which are easy and not acutally 2 hours long. Highly recomend but its def not an easy A.

She's Crazy. Go to class and read the chapters you'll do ok. She knows her stuff and keeps you entertained

Dr. Shapiro is a great teacher! She makes each class fun so that when you leave you actually retain the information. She wants her students to learn. I learned something new every class! As long as you show up, pay attention to iClicker questions (which are daily), take notes, and study, you should get a good grade!

As long as you take notes and read the book the tests were pretty easy.

I loved her class. She was entertaining and engaging. She appeared passionate about the field and subject matter. She tried to make difficult material fun and memorable. If you read, study, and take notes, you can definitely get the A. I would take her again!

Shes an awesome professor. Really easy as long as you go to class. Its taught based on power point slides and the textbook isn't necessary to get a good grade. Quite frankly, i didn't open the textbook once and it was a waste of money. Lastly, shes pretty hot for a professor.

She is a splendid teacher; she is funny and everything she teaches makes sense. To get a good grade all you have to do is show up to class and bring your iclicker and answer the questions from her powerpoint correct. The book is not needed; you can use her power point notes to study from. P.S. she is really hot!

You will do really well in her class as long you go to class and just listen basically. She gives four exams and iclicker questions daily that can raise ur grade by half a letter grade. She is really hot too. AND she burned in college. lol

GREAT professor! Really funny and approachable, makes material interesting. GO TO CLASS! If you don't the iclicker points will screw your grade. DON'T BUY THE BOOK/STUDY GUIDE! Go to class, take good notes. She puts all powerpoints on mycourses, so you really don't need to spend $200 on the book.

When I took this class a while ago I had mixed feelings about her presentations. They were very informative but my learning style was a little different than how she taught. Sometimes she came off as more arrogant than friendly and this made class less enjoyable. She IS smart and easy on the eyes. The new reviews here suggest she's improved.

This is such a good class! It gives you a basic view of psychology. She has a very witty and sarcastic humor (which some don't like but I find hilarious). You need to really print out the powerpoint notes annd bring them to class. DON'T buy the book! Highly recommend course for anyone hoping to get a basic view on psychology.

This teacher is Amazing! I loved her! She definitely knows what she is teaching and makes the class interesting. Her sense of humor gets her through the day ad her powerpoint slides are clear as can be. The book is not completely necessary but it is recommended. I recommend her class. :) (It also helps if you have a good memory)

Dr. Shapiro is an outstanding instructor. She takes her work and her class very seriously. Make sure you are in class, because she will make basically no exceptions for missing the daily quiz questions. However, she sparked my interest in psychology. The tests were not difficult if you listened to her interesting lectures and did the readings.

By far my favorite professor this semester. She is very funny and loves telling stories to help students relate to and better understand the topics she is teaching. Attendance is mandatory as there are iclicker questions to answer each class. If you study and read the textbook the tests are not a problem. I would highly recommend her class.

Shes really nice and her class is interesting but her test are extremely hard for a 101 course. To much information on the exams its a serious gpa dropper if your not studying every single day.

Her tests are extremely difficult. She posts slides online but slides aren't useful when her tests don't exactly test those. Study a lot, be prepared to take some hits to your GPA. She is a sweetheart but she's not the easiest professor in the department. Attendance is required and the only grades she assigns is her difficult test and iclicker quizzes. She's an okay professor, take her if you must.

She was great! simulated lots of interest in this class, she explains her slides pretty well. I recommend printing them out and writing marginal notes. All you have to do is read it all over and pay attention and you're golden for exams!

Shapiro is the reason i switched to Psychology. Spurred interest in the subject and was pretty clear as to what to study for exams. How she doesn't have a chili pepper is beyond me, WHATS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!

A great teacher overall. Quizzes and worksheets are very easy. Currently have an A in her class so im happy about that.

Shapiro is so sweet and really cares for her students. She will help you if you need it! No final but exams throughout, with a mix of worksheets and reading, and there are assignments on readings but they are not bad at all. Good amount of reading, but as long as you study and do your work you will be absolutely fine. Such a nice teacher!!
