She does not use a textbook. Her midterms comes with all multiple choices and her assignment answers guide can be found online. The course is easy but if you want to learn stuff don't take her class. All I've learned this semester is how great she was dealing with people.
too much reading, and redundant, her assignment takes lots of time, and helpless
I would NEVER take this if it weren't required. Amy had NO understanding of the "Carlson curve" policy (first test 96% = "B" bc it was so easy). You have to fight for each point if you want an A. She also uses 1 test form, doesn't have a proctor, and is in an overcrowded room, so cheating is EXTREMELY easy. Nice lady, but bad match for Carlson.
This class is mandatory and awful. She decided her first semester here was too easy for students so this semester added a ridiculous amount of reading, and threw in quizzes, case studies, and 200+ point writing assignments that she did not have last semester. Test scores were all over the place and for some reason that made her happy.
most down to earth professor on campus. really interesting and fun. No one likes HR here at Carlson, so everyone just complains. Keep up the good work.
If you are willing to read each assigned reading and attend class, it isn't so bad. Quiz and test questions can be tough and quite specific.
She's so nice and I thought she knew her subject well. As long as you know your stuff and keep up with readings/lectures you'll do well.
Good professor. Very nice and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
I heard a lot of bad things about Amy coming into this class but she really stepped up her game this semester and made class engaging and informative. She's very approachable, very friendly and made a boring night class fairly entertaining. Go to class and do the reading and you'll get a good grade, Amy's a great professor.
Amy was a very nice professor and was very willing to help. She was probably by far my favorite professor I've had at the U! She makes HRIR interesting, especially for non-HRIR students. She did a great job with the class, I would definitely recommend her as a professor. Make sure you do the quizzes, show up for class, and read the book.
Great professor, well liked. Would definitely recommend. Helpful and very knowledgeable about the topic.
Instructor is imprecise in her questions and exams. She teaches mostly from her own experience rather than incorporating a broad scope of material and frequently inserts her own personal opinions in lectures. Her teaching style actively discourages critical thinking and learning beyond the class scope.
Ms. Falink is my favorite professor at Carlson School so far. Great teaching, lots of in class discussion and activities.
Great class
Not an HR major and wasn't sure I was going to like the class, but it was awesome, very fun and interesting.
Loved Amy. She was so nice and helpful and extremely engaging in class. Would definitely take another class from her if it was offered.
Amy is an amazing professor and probably my best so far at Carlson! 110% recommend her! She is organized and straight-forward with her grading and what she expects. If you read the textbook and attend class you can easily get an A! Get to know her more at office hours because she is always willing to answer questions!
One of my favorite professors
One of my favorite professors, definitely is very relate able! Makes an effort to know her students, and cares about how they do in the class. I would recommend all students to take this class, provides great real world knowledge and it is very interesting!
By far the nicest, most helpful, and most approachable professor I've had at so far, TAKE HER SECTION
Easy to earn an A, but I don't feel that I got much out of the course. Has a friendly attitude, but work was standard textbook stuff and not engaging. I have nothing major to complain about, but I don't feel any more interested in HR after taking her class.
Great professor, loved this class. Very fun, engaging lectures. Very well organized.
Awesome professor. In three years at CSOM, probably has been my favorite. I had heard that this course was very dull and boring, which didn't reflect my experience at all. Couldn't recommend more!
Great class! Very clear in terms of material and grading criteria. Easy A. Show up to class, read a little, and do the assignments (theres one per week). Otherwise Falink really does everything she can to help the class work for YOU (makes sense, she's an HR professional!). She really does want you to succeed and enjoy your time. Great prof
Amy is a great professor who cares about her students. Willing to meet one on one at any point, even outside of office hours. I would recommend her!!
Amy is incredibly helpful and wants her students to succeed. The tests are a little weird and the group project was a hassle, but her great and engaging lectures made up for it.
Amy was a good professor for the most part. She is more of an HR professor and wasn't as sharp on MGMT topics. Often times she would read directly off of the slides. On the plus side she was always willing to help in anyway that she could. I would take her again.
Professor Amy clearly knows the field of management and human resources; she has a lot of expertise in this area, which makes her a credible instructor. Sometimes she was not very detailed and clear in her expectations for assignments, but she was always willing to discuss issues or help students out.
This class is based completely off of the book, the lectures are completely useless to actually learning any material. This would not be a problem if attendance was not mandatory, but because it is and it's a long class it gets extremely tedious and boring, especially when the material is elementary at best.
I really liked this class! interesting content. Professor Falink presents the content in a fun, engaging way. Very knowledgeable about human resources and has great stories. Take her class!
Amy is an awesome professor. Great class.
Amy is awesome! She is so knowledgeable and passionate about HR and she makes the topics interesting and connects to current events and our own past jobs. Her own career experience is used which is also very helpful. Her tests are fair and the semester project was helpful to learning more about HR. She is simply a great teacher and cares a lot!
Amy does a great job of conveying some of the most boring material I've ever seen in college. Very professional, willing to help and talk to you about anything related to the course, and showed somewhat interesting case studies to highlight concepts. Half the course gets an A so work hard enough and you'll be good. Definitely recommend.
Didn't expect to like this class, but walked away with practical tips and knowledge.
She really goes out of her way to help students.
She's fine. She tries to keep students engaged, but I had a night class so it was basically impossible. She can be passive-aggressive sometimes. Attendance is mandatory, which is stupid. She told us she made her tests harder this year and I could tell -- they were hard. Not what I expected in HR.
Overall the class was as to be expected. Not too challenging but also not a walk in the park. All of her tests are multiple choice however they are a difficult multiple choice. She gives you a study guide but doesn't really follow it for the test.
Professor Falink made the content interesting and I actually looked forward to class. Highly recommend.
Very unclear grading expectations. Engaging lecturer though.
Love this class! I actually look forward to coming to class.
Amy was a really fun and great lecturer. She is really engaging and has lots of stories to share. Her tests were 75 multiple choice (kind of intimidating) but she will literally give answers away in class, in the review session (a MUST GO) and tell you what will be on test. Her grading is actually VERY clear and she grades your test within a day!
Amy was extremely knowledgeable on everything she teaches and never left a question unanswered. She is hilarious and all of her lectures are engaging as she gives real world, relevant examples. I would recommend you take her!
Amy is a rock-solid professor. She makes the somewhat dry subject matter interesting, tells good stories, and has clear grading standards. Uses the Carlson curve in your favor. 75 question tests are intimidating, but are very manageable if you review the content and either go to the review session or look at the slides on Moodle. Very fair.
Amy should be your top pick for taking HRIR3021; she is very engaging despite mildly boring subject matter. Do the quizzes, show up to classes, and study for the exams and you shouldn't have a problem doing well in her class. She uses the Carlson curve to help you, so it's worth trying to get above the median. Overall, awesome professor.
This was my favorite class this semester. Amy has great lectures that make you actually interested in HR. Also, if you are above the median at all, she gives you an A. Review sessions before the test are super helpful. Would highly recommend Amy for this class!
If you take HRIR with anyone other than Amy you made a mistake. If you get above the median you get an A, which is super easy to do. Her lectures are passionate and keep you interested in a subject that many people find boring. She has many real life examples of the things she teaches which is super helpful. Great class!
You should definitely take Amy's HR class. She is engaging in class and cracks good jokes throughout lecture. There are a decent amount of participation activities. Her experience is relevant to the class, so her stories are actually helpful. Also, she kind of cheats the Carlson Curve, so it's not difficult to get a good grade.
Highly respected. Very enjoyable course.
Amy is really sweet and funny. The tests tend to be a mixture of the textbook and her lectures, the quizzes are straight out of the book. She brings in a lot of her past experiences in HR and is very good at explaining concepts. The material is more memorization than anything, but it is a very enjoyable class.
Great professor. Highly recommend.
Hands down my favorite professor! Loved this class. Really helpful - interesting class discussions.
i did not see her but i attend with her an online course at coursera and she is effective and make the material very interesting , really you made me love to study and know a lot about recruiting and selection ... thanks a lot for your helpful and trust on us and i hope to be like you in my future
Uninteresting and uninspiring.
One of the nicest most caring people Ive met. Clear expectations and interesting content. Great semester and thankful to have her for an instructor.
Fun class actually
Attendance was mandatory and dreadfully boring.
You get four excused absences without even having to notify her. Lectures were so interesting and engaging. Really great professor. Loved.
Terrible lecturer. Classes were prosaic and lacking intellectual curiosity.
Best lecturer Ive ever had. Amazing and inspiring.
Really fun and engaging - loved this class
Very popular teacher - great at answering questions and appreciated the humor in a sometimes dry topic.
Terrible lecturer. Interactions with students are painfully superficial.
Classes were dull. Instructor painfully thinks she is funny, but jokes usually fall flat.
Super nice and lots of energy, interesting lectures. Solid reputation. Would recommend.
Classes were dull and uninteresting. Conversations were Kafkaesque.
Took this class online last summer. Was well organized and not too hard. Some group work. Overall recommend, we had great class discussions!
Really enjoying this class with Amy! She is highly respected among Carlson students, she's kind and cares about you. She really makes things easy to understand. I actually look forward to class- and so far tests are challenging but doable.
Really great teacher. So kind!
Lectures lacked depth, often relying on busywork and gimmicks in an attempt to engage students.
Very interesting lecturer- I'm a senior and in all my discussions at CSOM I have never met one person who hasn't enjoyed this class and her style of teaching. Great reputation.
Awesome professor and fun class
This a 2 credit class that lasts half the semester. Over this period, we took 5 quizzes, a midterm, a final, and had 2 group project deliverables (slide decks). In-class exercises were valuable, but were graded hard considering little direction was given beforehand. Not necessarily a bad course, just a very large amount of work.
I really wanted to like her. Amy is nice and is passionate about human resources but this class was way too heavy on pointless work which was graded super tough. So many assigned readings, quizzes and projects. Despite finding the content interesting, this course was set up in a really bad way (and only offered at 8am)
Amy is the best prof I have ever had at Carlson, the lecture is very engaging, reading the book can help on the exam
Amy is a great prof overall. Very friendly, tries to make material engaging, and is very clear on what is expected of you. Very easy online weekly quizzes and "activities" which are easy points. Exam are the usual difficulty but she often drops hints on exam answers during lectures which helps.
Amy Simon is a great professor! She is clearly passionate about her work and her students as well! She is very understanding and supportive and gives a great basis of HR without giving too much detail. Her tests can be tricky, but overall you do learn a lot from her course.
Amy is a very nice and caring person, and this class is an easy A if she continues to allow open book exams. The content is pretty boring and self-explanatory though.
Good Professor. Fairly easy class overall because of open-note exams. Pretty simple concepts. She would routinely go off-topic during lectures.
Like someone noted- tests are fine if they are open note. HR has a rep for being boring around Carlson- unfortunately this class's material lives up to that. It can get very dry at times. Amy however is very nice and loves to have good class discussions about these topics, which really helps staying engaged. Textbook is needed for assessments.
Love her! Best teacher Ive had at Carlson. Tests are open book, you can have your laptop open to take notes, topics are relevant. Excellent, very nice teacher!
The lectures are like Ted talks. Seriously good prof. Definitely recommend.
Amy is an amazing professor! Her lectures go by super fast because she makes it so interesting. She's funny and cares a lot about her students. Class grades are very clear and exams aren't too bad as long as you fill out the study guide. Would 100% recommend
Amy is a super sweet professor. She is approachable and willing to help you out. She is flexible with grading and assignments are consistent each week with clear deadlines that are easy to manage. Her lectures are actually pretty engaging and she goes into depth about the information she is presenting. Tests are open note, just fill out study guide
Amy was a good professor that presented the content clearly. The tests are harder than you think, though. Theyre open note but if you havent read the chapters itll be tough. Attendance is required but she gives you 8 times you can miss so its not bad at all. Overall not a bad class but you need to put in a good amount of effort to get an A.
This class made me feel like I was in high school again, it was beyond easy and Amy kind of talked to us like we were in high school but I don't that against her too much. Overall very kind and thoughtful professor, well-spoken, and gives you 8 free absences for the semester which is awesome.
Amy was amazing. She cares about your performance, she's enthusiastic, she relates the material to relevant situations happening in today's society, and she's the most understanding, flexible professor there is. For the boring stereotype that HR has, she made it interesting enough for me to enjoy lectures and material.
Wasn't a huge fan of HR but Amy made it tolerable. She had well prepared lectures that were appropriately paced. Exams were online, open book, and not very difficult. The class itself was "eh" but Amy was probably the best you could hope for in an intro to HR professor.
Amy is the goat. She is one of the nicest professors I have had. Tests are a little hard but theyre open note so not too bad. She really cares for her students and wants them to succeed. Material is lecture heavy so pay attention, do the connect assignments, and youll be good. I wish more professors were like Amy.
Good, easy class overall. Not hard to get an A if you put in a little work. Pros: Amy tried to engage the class and discussions made class go faster. Cons: Content could be dry, tests are a little long, and you def have to read the textbook, but I guess that's fair. Overall I recommend.
Overall great!high school teacher esque-pa side comes out at the end of the semester-refuses to round up grades even with A set at a 94 "even if you are really, really close" like, 0.01 percent. Why? If Amy chose to always round up grades to a reasonable degree, she wouldnt have to deal with 90% of those annoying student emails she complains about!
Lecture heavy, but Amy is super accommodating and flexible. She's so bubbly that somehow you end up enjoying her class. TAKE NOTES, listen in class, study for the the timed exam and you'll pass. Exams are open book/notes, this is super helpful to relearn what was covered in class. Extremely supportive and always emailed us if anything happened.
Professor Simon was very kind and engaging in her lectures. She is a very understanding person and cares about her students. The exams could be somewhat difficult, but you get a note sheet which is helpful. Overall, the class content is super straightforward and simple to understand.
Exams seemed ambiguous. The overall workload isn't too difficult. This is the type of class you want to study for or at least understand the why behind things. We were given a single note sheet for the exams which was better than nothing.
Amy is great!! The content, not so much. The exams where low-key more difficult than what you would typically expect for a non-major course so make sure you study. The questions just get really critical. For exam 3, it was almost all textbooks stuff so I advise actually read it. HW is a breeze.
