Amy's awsome! Easy to follow, very helpful and understanding
A great teacher!
Very unorganized and not very prepared.
very hard teacher, stupid and pointless book that goes along with nothing
Tests are difficult. If you have a hard time in math, don't take her.
too many quizzes, material not covered well at all, everything is VERY hard
I think she is easy and covers material thoroughly.
Offers extra credit!
Teaches stuff thoroughly, very nice, great teacher
do your homework.........................RIGHT
She's dosen't teach, she just puts work on board.Terrible!
Always had trouble with math, she made it harder. Talks as if you know already.
Horrible tests...contains all story problems
GREAT CLASS!!!!
hard tests, teaches by examples, but she's really helpful and very nice.
easy class, great teacher! if u didn't understand this class, find a math tutor!
She makes things seem a lot harder than what they are. Confusing and unclear.
Don't bother asking her for help. She is an awful professor.
gives you no motivation to do any work and the class is soooooooooooooooo boring
Her exams are difficult and she's not very helpful. Also has a monotone voice.
I think she's really good. Haven't done good in math until now.
She's a great person, but her teaching techniques are awful
Made math harder then it really is! Awful teacher!
Very nice teacher. Tests can be tricky-word problems. too much H.W. portfolios a
If you get a tutor and teach yourself, you might have a chance of passing.
Nice as a person, but looks down on you when you ask a question.
She really taught this class and made sure her lessons were understood.
She knew her stuff, but her tests were way harder then they needed to be!
monotone, tests harder than examples, teaches by writing examples out of book,
What she taught contradicted with what the book taught. Tests were very unfair.
the people who are complaining about her tests need a tutor
You've gotta guess when your homework is due.

Amy is very easy and understandable. I would definately recommend her!
tests unexpectedly difficult, friendly and approachable, test Qs worth too much
It wasn't hard at all if you payed attention, the tests weren't that bad either.
Good notes, but tests and labs are graded to harsh, tests are rough.
Will do well if you put the time into it, Great Job Amy!
quiz came from nowhere, tests where hard, willing to help but still hard
Amy, is more than willing to help you during her office hours, tests are tough b
Excellent prof. she wants you to do good. Hard class, but she helps a ton!
Snippety when ?'s are asked. Very monotone. Not good teaching style
great prof who cares and always avail for help. 5 credit calc ..expect to work
Not a bad prof by any means, but I'd keep looking!
I fell asleep at least once a week. Enough said
I love Amy!! She's very helpful and explains things clearly.
She is a very nice and helpful woman, her tests were hard. She gives pop quiz's
good prof.....you will actually learn and enjoy it
Class moves quick...don't be left in the dust. Not a favorite, but tries to help
Very nice woman, helpful. Class moves quickley.
She's nice, moves very quickly, tests very hard, pop quizzes, attendance a must
excellent teacher, very helpful, I'd recommend, hard tests, you'll learn alot!!!
You might as well teach yourself because her examples are right out of the book.
got every answer on the test right but didnt show work so got no credit
Very helpful. Explained concepts in a way that made them easy to understand. Just show work on tests and you will do well.
she is not a good teacher! class is a waste of time. where did she learn to teach??
she is always willing to answer questions, explains material thouroughly, lots of extra credit opportunities, i would recommend her

amy is nice & expects a lot. i didn't do very well in the class, but i can only blame myself. i liked her optimization problems involving goat frolick spaces and Pinky LaRue. if you have a sense of humor and a sadistic nature, take her class.
Mrs. Stone is a HARD teacher. She actually expects us to show up to class and do work. HOW DARE SHE!!!! Other than that, she seems to be nice and interested in us learning.
This is an easy class until she comes in the room. She is not a nice person and doesn't like to help. Also no note cards or anything of that sort. I would get another teacher.
Only 25% of my class got above a C. She is nice, but her tests are hard (compared to other 110 classes)(no formula notes either) and she is very picky about your answers. I suggest a different prof.
She not only helped me out with her class, but with the MTH 122 class I was taking when I recieved no help from that prof. She doesn't make it easy on you but I have found that this is the most fun I've had in a math class and I hate math.
Amy is probably the coolest professor I have had so far. She is funny, outgoing, and kind. She also doesn't expect us to understand things right away, and takes the time to try and simplify things instead of just ploughing through.
She is very hard. Class avg. is around C-. Teaching stuff in 125 that my friends at MSU haven't seen in 300 level calc. classes! WAY TOO HARD.
tests are ungodly hard, last test we had to know over a dozen formulas for logarithms, exponentials and derivitives. the reason they make formulas on paper is so you DONT have to memorize them, what a joke. Although she is a hottie!
Don't take this class first thing in the morning... other than that yes her test are hard, but she always answers your questions, there are worse professors to have, so if you are pretty sure of your math skills she's an alright choice.
Very good prof. Explains everything, tough tests and some difficult projects but nice lady overall. Had fun in the class.
Her class average was about a C, what does that tell you
It appears that this is her first time teaching this subject. Very poor in teaching induction and logic. She should give it up - MTH 225 is not her cup of tea.
She is nice as a person but very hard as a grader. Her tests suck, as well as the group projects which are assigned every other week.
Excellent teacher. Her lectures are clear, and she is willing to help you out whenever you want. Her tests are hard, but if you study, and DO THE HOMEWORK, its not bad.
She is a good teacher. She is willing to help you better understand calculas if you are willing to ask. She knows her stuff, but the class itself is quite difficult. To understand the class you need to ask questions.
Good teacher, made a math class fun for me (a rare event). Projects were easy, tests were hard, assignments were optional and non-graded. Take notes and study.
Always be prepared for this class...do your homework, she doesn't collect it but it helps. She really knows calculus, but she doesn't really care that her students know it. Prof. Stone is a cool lady, but the only way to learn is if you go to her office hours and sit with her one on one.
she the best around, nothings gunna ever keep her down!
She is really nice but her tests are killers. She gives the easiest examples in class but on the tests she gives problems that we have never seen before. Unless you want to teach yourself stay away from her.
She is a very nice person but her tests and group activities are not so good. Her tests are harder than the assignments and examples that we go over in class and her group activities are positive because she applies the concepts we learn in class to real life situations but useless on exams.
if math is a difficult subject for you,i would not reccomend her. it is hard to become motivated b/c she does not require homework to be handed in which would help your grade w/more pts&force you to learn, which non-math people need.if you're good in math,i'm sure you'l find her to be a fine prof.
I hated this professor. I warn you do not take Math 122 with her. She made things look simple while teaching and gives you the hardest questions possible on the exams. She will mark you done for the smallest errors on math. She is the worst mathe teacher that I have ever had.
She is a very nice teacher, but it still pretty difficult. She does not go in depth on major points, which makes it tough to learn. However, she is very willing to help, so take advantage of her office hours!
Very nice teacher. It's a shame I suck at math, or I might have enjoyed the class more. But she is there for you if you need her and she is very clear about her assignments and tests. Do your homework and study and you can pass this class with a fine grade.
Her tests are killers! She will make things look SO easy, when in reality they aren't. She also doesn't really teach much. It's more of a self learn class. She also gives pop quizzes which are over stuff you haven't learned yet. I would not recommend her to anyone interested in MTH 122.
Ok, I had math 201 last sem. and failed horribly with Hodge, so I retook it with Stone. She explains everything really well and questions are always welcomed. The only way you don't pass her class is to not ask her questions. Don't blame her if you can't handle Calculus. It's hard****.
Don't get her as a professor! She gives pop quizzes on stuff that we don't discuss until after the quiz is over (WTF!!!). Her test are hard too. But she is actually kinda nice.
She's pretty nice, but gives the hardest questions possible for the material. The material isn't all that bad, but she makes it TERRIBLY difficult. She's found to a way to make what should be a GPA booster a GPA killer.
Be prepared to teach yourself - she doesn't lecture, just answers questions you have about homework. Gives easy problems for homework, but puts hardest questions possible on tests. Very hard grader, won't even give partial credit. Big on showing work, which for her means writing an essay describing every little step.
She is really helpful if you go and talk to her outside of class. (That is the only way i could to do the portfolio). Calc is hard and i think she teaches it well.
Study on your own, she asks about the homework and show your work!!! A simple class.
she made very easy topics hard-it was a very easy class but she gives you a lot of work
She teaches well, but I still failed her test!
She is a very good teacher. Explains things very well, and takes the time to answer everyones questions. Also is very prepared for class and knows the material.
This class was really easy!! Math comes real easy to me so that could be why it was so easy. She helps everyone, no matter what their questions are.
If you want a good calc prof, take Amy. She understands calculus thoroughly. She's very fair with grading. She'll bend over backwards to meet with you outside of class. She gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities.
She is a nice professor but doesn't explain topics a well as she could. You do have to teach yorself quite a bit. Her quizzes are tough and she doesn't give partial credit. We even had one test that we couldn't use a calculator on. Okay professor but if math is not for you then don't take her.
very easy class, she knows what she is talking about, always willing to help. Don't skip this class, she give some pop-quizzes and you get points for easy in class activities-you'll do fine.
She is am excellent teacher! I recommend her to anyone that has to take Mth 110. she is bery helpful and willing to meet with you. Classes are not that hard and she gives you alot of activities to help you. They are fun and it make the time fly by even faster! TAKE HER!!!
She was a great prof! Her style of teaching is very easy to understand! She doesnt take attendance, but you can't make up stuff you miss unless you talk to her ahead of time. Homework is optional but i suggest you do it if you want to do well! Her final exam is hard- be prepared!!
i thought it would be a blow off class, but it definitely wasn't. make sure you go to class because there are a lot of ten point assignments that if you miss, it will be impossible to get an A. tests are pretty difficult but you should be okay as long as you go to class!
Make sure you go to class because there are a lot of ten point assignments that if you miss, you can make up. Tests are pretty difficult and she's pretty critical but over all she was a good prof! Her style of teaching is very easy to understand and she is very approachable.
At the beginning, I was sinking like a stone. In the end, I was bobbing like a cork.
She is very nice and very helpful. Her tests are not very hard. However, there are easier math 110 teachers. Jones gives out a ton of extra credit so I would take him instead. Stone is easy but you have to do the work.
she was a really good professor, just show up for class and do the homework and you should get an A in the class.
Stone is a great professor. I hated the material in the class but she made it alright. The exams are not hard, but you shouldn't expect to do well on them...given the class average is low, she will give you the chance for extra credit( an all or nothing deal). She is helpful. If you don't like to think, she is not the right prof. for you.
Amy was a nice lady to talk to. Her exams and quizzes aren't hard, but sometimes you are left with time in class and you just do busy work. She likes people to use her office hours. She is really considerate of having harder classes and having time to study or something like that. She always lets you make up exams.
I went to every class and the hw problems were easy, I always did the hw. I got full credit on the quizes & in class assignments, but failed 1 out of the 3 tests, and barely passed the others. The first one was fine, 89%, then i recieved a 49% and a 66% and I am a math major! Tests are the hardest thing you'll take, even if you know the material.
Great teacher. She made the content as interesting as it could be, and brought variety into the homework with different projects and activities. I would highly recommend her if you are taking a course she is teaching.
Amy was a great teacher, but counted tardes which felt like highschool. Overall she was very fun, and easy to approach. Also she always made herself available - office hours and email. Very understanding to why you were not in class.
Amy is amazing! I had her for an SLA class, which I would suggest if you aren't very good at math. She makes things easier to understand and she definitely repeats things if you need help! She spends the first part of class answering all of the homework questions you have and explains things as many times as you need. Take her!
You might not think to take her for 225 but she's actually one of the better teachers for it. I had so much trouble with the material but she was always super-willing to help out and office visits would always clear it up, making the assignment and exams very fair.
Not bad when it comes to teaching. Was clear with her lectures and displayed the content in a organized manner. BUT...her test's are horrible, review sheets almost never coincide with what's on the test. mandatory attendance...and an anal grader on homework assignments, they all make for a bad class.
First impression can be decieving. Amy ended up being my favorite math teacher I've ever had. Recieved an A in her class and didnt even study hard. She actually takes the time to teach and clarify the material in the most simplistic way possible. Definitely take her if math is not your strong suit.
Hard class, will be retaking with a different professor
Stone was an awesome teacher, always offered to answer any questions about homework. Do your work and review, and you will be good. Tests are easy, and she is a sweet person. TAKE HER!
She gave out a lot of handouts with directions and expected us to learn on our own a lot. Exams were fair. There was a lot of group work.
She is really helpful during class and office hours. She does give a lot of handouts for you work on in class but she is there to help you and you often learn better if you struggle through a topic a little first. Her exam expectations were clear.
VERY helpful & nice teacher! The best math teacher that I've had in a while!
If you struggle with math in the first place DONT TAKE HER. She flies through sections and isnt much help when you have questions. I dispise going to her class. Though shes very nice shes not the best at teaching.
I had a really hard time in this class. I tried and went to tutoring, but I still struggled the entire semester.
She is a horrible prof. Her exams are extremely hard and basically nothing that we discussed is on the exams. She is very hard to approach and has no personality. if you are taking her class, switch out immediately!!!
She actually isn't that bad at teaching. Her notes are to the point and she gives multiple examples for each topic. She will always go over the book work (which isn't graded). There are writing assignments which are way easier than you will think at first. Her tests are tough, but do-able if you understand the material. Overall, not a bad professor
Professor Stone was alright. This class in general, on the other hand, was very difficult. Luckily all of the homework assignments were group assignments. I didn't know what was going on about half the time in lecture. The difficulty of the course has nothing to do with this professor though. Take her.
She's a hard grader on the tests. She assigns a lot of group projects, most of them are pointless projects for her to put points in for grades. She's not the most interesting thing to listen to.
She is a very tough professor, hard to get along with. Her test are very difficult and she loves to trick you on test, by putting stuff she doesn't teach on the test. Don't take her, she's awful.
I had her for MTH 110 and she was awesome! She helped me whenever I needed it. Her tests were not hard at all if you study. She is pretty easy to get along with. I would recommend her!
I really liked Prof. Stone. She is really straight forward in what she is looking for and is very helpful. Make sure you do your online webwork homework and to come to class! She gives out 10 pt assigments in class that can either make or break your grade (She drops 2 usually). Tests aren't bad and if you need help she is easily approachable.
Prof. Stone is very easy to approach and gives out decent amounts of homework. The class is easy if you have prior knowledge, if not it is still easy due to the content level.
She answers any questions and it really helpful when you don't understand stuff. really easy to understand and the tests arn't that bad if your good at math like it or don't find it hard to understand.
Very helpful but her tests were very different than her examples in class which made class tough.
She was very pleasant to learn from
Professor Stone is the best Math teacher Ive ever had. She was clear & answered your questions in great detail. Her tests were a little different than the review but it challenged yourself which helps you learn. Also she cared about the class a lot & put a lot of thought into it. She returned grades fast too. Try to take Professor Stones class
She is a very tough professor, class is super boring. She makes the problems as difficult as possible. If you aren't super good in math don't take her, she goes way to fast through the chapters.
Very helpful teacher. Class consists of learning, but she will slow down if class is struggling to grasp material. She is MORE than happy to help or explain, and if you do all the suggested problems for homework and really make a point of KNOWING WHAT YOU ARE DOING, then you will have no trouble :)
She is nice, but her class is super boring and test are tricky. She grades the writing assignments really tough. Her exams are tricky and not well written. She doesn't grade book work, and there are not many points to help you make up on a bad exam. If you are not strong in math, I would take different prof.
I liked professor stone as a person, but her class wasn't the best fit for me. The material wasn't really clear to me because she lectured for such a short amount of time, then we would break into groups to do activities that I felt didn't really fit to chapters covered
She is very rude when you don't remember material from previous courses and expects you to have it memorized. Textbook was very brief and provides barely any practice and no solutions provided. Assigns tons of work that doesn't help you learn the material. I'm always in the math center I asked for help and I'm barely getting a B-.
Very friendly and intelligent lady, but she can not teach. She expects memorization of previous topics that may not have been covered in previous classes. Gives a lot of work that does not relate to the test and what we need to know. Her lectures consist of showing one example and assuming we can do every other problem. I would not recommend
Don't expect partial credit on ANYTHING. Her tests are usually 7 questions wrong with multiple portions on each question. If you get something wrong on the first part, don't expect to pass the test. I got a 5075 because of one question. (2125 points from one question) She's very smart but you better do it the way she wants it done or else...
VERY HARD. Tests are not like the homework at all. Just take the most challenging question form any section and thats your exam. You will do hundreds of homework problems to humor her half the time. Find another prof, please.
Rude teacher. If you decide to ask questions she talks to you like you are dumb. Does not slow down to help class if needed. Assigns group assignments that do not help learn. Would never reccomend taking this class.
Professor Stone was a great professor. She was always willing to help out when needed and made sure her instruction was clear for everyone. There was a lot of homework, but thats the nature of math. The first hour of class is designated for questions.
She teaches for a little and will break you up into group work, then when you have questions she will walk away from you if you don't understand, not helpful or patient at all. Has trouble taking control of the class room. VERY hard grader. I basically taught the class to myself because I wasn't getting the help I needed for the instructor.
What seemed like hundreds of wiring assignments were awful. Other classes have just one, not one every week. She is very strict and does not want to slow down for anyone, so if you're behind right away transfer to another prof, or just DON'T take her to start.
Calculus is hard, but she made it understandable. There were no quizzes, but tests were thorough. Class was necessary to attend for me in order to grasp concepts. I spent a lot of time in the math center to keep up with Webwork, make sure you get above a 90% in your homework.
I barely went to class because when I did, I felt as though I didn't learn anything. However, going to class is essential because she always hands out group assignments that are worth 10 pts (they can be a good way to raise your grade). Whenever I emailed her for help, she never helped me. Don't take her if you can avoid it.
I would not recommend taking Amy, I have never tried harder in a class and I still ended up with a C. I stopped going to her office hours because she was rude and would talk to me like I was stupid whenever I asked a question. The only homework was webwork (which was a pain) and in class assignments which she does not grade easy on.
huge disconnect between homework, tests, and group work. very rude to her students and does not know how to help. i worked very hard in this class, only to receive a b-. avoid if you can
She is by far the worst professor I have ever had for a math class! Tests are nearly impossible. Shes terrible at explaining things. If you want any remote chance of passing you basically have to teach yourself the entire subject. Worked my butt off in this class and luckily ended up with a C. I got a B in Calc 2 with a different prof then Calc 1
Amy is not very helpful and her lectures are very confusing. I had her my freshman year and whenever I went to her for help she made me feel dumb. I got a B in CALC I. I am a math major...... I took Calc II (the hardest Calc class) and got an A- . To me this just doesn't add up.
I enjoyed having Dr. Stone as a professor. You can tell she cares about the students and wants them to succeed. She is available in her office hours a lot and will answer any question you have very quickly. The tests were tough. The math lab was the worst part which was extremely boring along with the writing assignments.
Prof Stone was really cool and very passionate about math, the class I took was extremly hard though and some of the homework was online and that was a pain in the ass. fun class though.
Amy's a great math professor. I found her very helpful when I took Precalculus and she really helped me understand the material better. Study hard and come to her when you have questions. She's a caring, helpful, and all around great math teacher, solid choice. :)
Sure, Calculus is hard no matter the professor, but Prof. Stone was great at explaining things in a clear manner. There was quite a bit of homework, but if felt like necessary practice for such hard topics. Stone was very passionate about mathematics, and it showed in how she taught.
Freshmen year taking calc? NOT WITH HER!! This is the class i spend the most time on i have 3 tutors and much of my time is spent at math center when i can and i don't get any of the material and it's a miracle if i get a c on the exam.
Honestly the worse professor I've ever had. She doesn't teach, but she's totally okay with not teaching the material. If you didn't take calc recently, your screwed. The test questions aren't anything like her homework or anything "taught" during class. Terrible experience. Would rate her a 0 if possible.
If you have to take 110 absolutely do not take Stone as a prof. She left sarcastic notes on a test I didn't do that well on and she talks to students that don't understand concepts like they're stupid. She doesn't give students a lot of respect and isn't all that helpful when it comes to questions that her students have.
Amy was by far the best math prof I had, and was super accessible outside of class. She uses lots of examples and makes sure you understand the information. Even though you don't have to do the book problems, in order to be successful I would recommend doing them.
Ahh, the class where you teach yourself Calculus. Stone will give your table a problem to work on, on material you have never learned, and that is how the majority of class is spent some days. The worst part is she's good at explaining things, but she hardly ever does. Some extra credit, tests are harder than practice tests, the lab and papers suck
Very tough grader. Tests are wayy too hard compared to other Mth 225 classes. Tests would contain stuff we never covered, LITERALLY!
The homework and tests are nearly impossible. She is not very approachable. She gives extra credit but you still fail the class. I understood the material but its like she designed the tests in hopes that you fail. The questions were always confusing and often contained things we never talked about. Find somebody else to take the class with.
Hard tests. Lots of homework. Not very nice. Don't take her
If math is not your strong subject DO NOT TAKE AMY. She teaches in a way that is very unhelpful. Homework is given that we have never gone over and assumes we know how to work it out. Does not explain thing well.
Amy is by far the worst math teacher I have ever had. Her tests are nothing like what she teaches you in class, and she is not very helpful when you have questions about the material. I do not recommend taking math 122 with her!!
The class as a whole is not difficult to pass and I am horrible at math. She will help you but she comes off as rude and judgmental which sucks when you're self conscious about math already. The homework is online and not terrible but don't start the day its due. Find a good group to sit with because partner/group work is in almost every class.
I wasn't very receptive to Stone's teaching methods. Notes were difficult to take based on her lecture style. The class was often spent trying to work out concepts that she had yet to teach. Tests were very challenging. The labs were useless. The papers are ridiculous. extra credit is offered every unit. I would not recommend taking her.
I took Mrs. Stone for Calculus 201 and she was by far one of the worst math teachers I've ever had. We spent class periods proving equations rather than learning concepts that were going to be on the test. Her labs had nothing to do with the tests. The tests were extremely hard, even my mom, a math teacher, thought the tests were overly difficult.
She's pretty condescending, talks down to you in a pretty sarcastic way when you ask questions. She's decent at teaching the material but takes up most of the class proving things. For calc I she gave a ton of webwork homework and a couple writing assignments. Her tests cover just about everything for a chapter, especially the harder problems.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Almost no notes taken during class, does not explain things at all, and is rude in office hours. Do not recommend taking this class. The exams were on things not covered.
tests are nothing like the material learned in class
Worst math teacher, she made me dislike math. Tests are nothing like the lecture. Really rude and unapproachable. Homework is hard and doesn't really help with it
Terrible, just terrible.
There is no notes or lecture for this class, everything is learned by doing examples. her grading scale is very unfair, every problem is worth 6 points so true false are 6 points and so are the problems where you love for 10+ variables. this also means that if you get a true/false wrong it tanks your grade.
We had 3 exams and a final, which is most of your grade. She does provide quite a bit of extra credit. It was frustrating that Stone expects you to figure things out on your own both in class and on tests."If you know the answer you don't need her help, and if you don't know it you need to try harder" kinda. Otherwise, I don't have any complaints.
She lectured in ways to help you understand the concepts she was covering. She was fairly concise and straight forward in her speaking and could adequately convey knowledge. She offers many extra credit opportunities, but there are quite a few exams. You also do "Professional Writing" on concepts in class, which is a bit over the top for Calc 1.
I'm not even done with the semester, but this is the hardest class I have ever taken. I have found that she teaches things in class, but the online homework rarely coorispondes well with the taught material. She does offer to go over any problems at the beginning of class but it's very difficult to do on your own. I failed the 1st test.
I used to love math but this class made me hate it. The professor is awful at explaining/helping when you need it. The notes are hard to follow and she goes through them quick with little explanation. The only thing that saved me in this class was the free tutoring at the math center! Take advantage of it!!
FIND SOMEONE ELSE!!! The most frustrating class I've had during college. This professor is extremely rude and dismissive when students ask questions. Students are so afraid to ask her questions, they ask their neighbor to do it for them. She teaches very heavily on using a website called Desmos, but doesn't allow this during testing.
The work we do in class does not make any sense with our homework. We do work online which makes no sense since this is a math coarse. When we ask for help she is very unhelpful and does not explain anything.
This professor will cover one topic, then skip two chapters ahead right after a short explanation. Don't stress about good note taking because you literally won't be able to organize it. She uses DESMOS for class work AND to complete webworks but doesn't allow it on tests? Do not take this professor if you struggle with math, it makes it harder.
The class should be easy. However, when you are a sophomore and have not had a math class since the middle of highschool recalling older concepts is difficult. Amy is one of the most difficult prof on earth. She does not teach what will be on the exams. And shows you the most basic concept then expects you to know the rest. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!
Tough grader. Doesn't really teach just hands out worksheets. Tests are graded very hard
She doesnt initially teach the material very well, but if you ask questions she does a good job of explaining things in a different way. I can understand why people dont like her. If you value understanding the material and put in a little effort, youll do just fine in this class.
Professor Stone does not teach very well and she avoids answering questions that you ask her. But, the material is pretty easy if you have the ability to teach everything to yourself. She also gives lots of opportunities for extra credit and her tests are exactly what you would expect.
She gives you WRITING ASSIGNMENTS for a math class. Yes they have math associated, but if the math is wrong, then the entire paper is either given a 1 of a 0 out of 10. Which why even submit a WRITING assignment if it will be graded like that. Also, she doesn't teach. She gives HW and makes you ask questions over it instead of really teaching.
Her teaching gets much worse as the semester progresses. She has seemed to almost stop teaching at this point and just gives out worksheets. Many times this has been on something not yet learned. When you ask a question about the worksheet, you will normally get an open ended response of little to no help. Avoid at all costs.
Doesn't give accurate due dates. Inconstant with the weekly homework.
There are only 3 tests and a final (this is where you get most of your points). She lectures only sometimes and she expects you to figure a lot of it out on your own. Be prepared to work hard and struggle at least a little (or for many people, be ready to struggle a lot)!
Professor Stone seemed to almost check out from teaching halfway through the semester. She hands you worksheets on new concepts and will not give much information as to what to do. She is extremely vague when you ask for help. Good luck to anyone who gets stuck in this class.
I have never(ever)failed a class and this is a first. For god sake's, we were doing calculus in Discrete, like why?? I bet I could teach the material better than her. The homework that is mandatory has nothing to do with the tests that are given. After midterms at least half of the class was failing. Do your self a favor and do not take here class!
Don't take her. Not a nice person at all, always seems to have a stick up her rear end. Tests are difficult and she is a tough grader.
She wasnt the best teacher in class, but her office hours are crucial, shes much better in a 1:1 setting. The writings for 201 were a bit much, but she offered a ton of extra credit. She also assigns A TON of webworks, I spent at least 3-4 hours a week doing just those alone.
I dreaded showing up to this class. Though Stone is a very nice professor, her teaching style makes no sense. She made us write a ton of partner papers on math problems that didn't make any sense. She also graded extremely hard on everything. I recommend taking this class with a different prof, as there is way better ones out there for an easy A.
Easiest class I've taken in my four years at GVSU. Plenty of extra credit opportunities, didn't even have to pay attention.
Overall, average professor. Nothing exceptional, nothing terrible. She responds to emails pretty quickly. One gripe that I did have was that the way she went through math concepts would be unclear at times.
Do not recommend her! There were no clear notes or instructions for most of the course. Felt like being in class was wasting my time, so I watched youtube videos which were much more helpful. The class was easy however, so I got a good grade. But if you are looking to take a more difficult class with her, I would find a different professor
From what I've heard, professor Stone is one of the easier ones to take if you are going to take Discrete Structures. She uses Jamboard for her lectures, and posts them after the class is over. Overall the class was pretty interesting because you discuss topics that you've probably never seen before in a regular math class.
After reading some of the other reviews for Professor Stone, I have zero clue why they are so low. I thought she was an excellent professor. She does an amazing job explaining the material, presents it in a way that is easy to take notes on, and makes sure nobody is falling behind. She is a tough grader on tests, however. Would recommend!
Professor Stone delivered great material on discrete mathematics. She always seemed to know the material herself very well and was very on top of any questions that might arise (even very out there theoretical questions) and you can tell she enjoys what she teaches to the students. Overall a solid teacher for discrete math.
Professor Stone was a very nice person. Although, her lectures and lessons were very unclear. I had to teach everything to myself. I highly do not recommend taking this course with her. I am usually very good at math and can understand the material easily and fast, but she does not clarify anything and does not go through the problems step by step.
Honestly not great at explanation but was very nice as a person. Most of things gone over in class required me to have to use the Math Departments YouTube page. Doesn't post many useful notes. I did however like that she posted the Jamboards in the weekly content. WebWork was heavy and light at times just depends on the chapter
This professor had a lot of potential to be good, however, she was always all over the place. I never followed along because it was something different and random every day. She does use other test questions for the final so KEEP YOUR TESTS! She uses a website for homework that is difficult and the questions are crazy hard. Wouldn't recommend.
If you aren't someone who usually is able to learn in class, you have enough material to learn it by yourself at home. There are tests every Friday, but you get three chances for each topic to retake the tests .I do think that this class is too focused on WebWork (the online homework). I would take her again.
Amy is an amazing teacher. Throughout she tells us all the time if we have questions and she answers them nice and thorough. We have quizzes ever Friday, but they're pretty easy and you get 3 tries. There is a ton of webwork, but like I said, she will answer them in class if you need help and you can even email her and she instantly responds back.
There were no structured notes, attendance affects your grade dramatically even though the lectures are not helpful. It would be a new topic almost everyday, I hardly knew what unit we were in half the time. Although, we got to redo learning targets on the weekly quizzes if you did not pass the first time. She's a nice person, not a good teacher.
The only thing I disliked was the webwork. Some questions in webwork she never taught in class like at all so you had to find how to do it but other than that It was fine, she gave you unlimited chances which is very nice but there was a lot of problems to do. She lets you use your computer for desmos during tests. Very easy tests.
Professor Stone was amazing! She does her best to help you understand what you are doing by going over homework problems with everyone when asked, and she is very accessible if you need extra tries on the homework as well. I would 100% recommend her!
Professor Stone was very very nice! Always tried to get the class participating, always asking if we had any questions and would go above and beyond to answer them. Lots of outside homework, so be prepared. Lectures did move by fast, so it could be easy to fall behind. Would recommend if you want to challenge yourself.
Professor Stone is pretty helpful, going over homework with the class. The quizzes are manageable, and she's responsive to emails. Using unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook helped me get through the webwork.
Dr.Stone is a really sweet professor! She explains concepts really well, and provides a lot of resources to check your understanding. No midterms, but challenging weekly quizzes and annoying online homework. She does go over hw every class period which is nice! I really recommend her even though I found the class challenging. She is great at her job
She was super nice, gave lots of chances, and wanted her students to succeed. If you want to do good in the class, you will. Pay attention and you will learn everything you need to know from her.
Coursework did not really line up with the homework, quizzes, or the final exam. There also was not an actual structure on around the notes for the course, which was very unhelpful and confusing. She is a nice person but not a very good teacher. I would recommend switching to another professor if you have to take this course for credit. I cried.
I had professor stone this semester, and I would not recommend!!! If you are not very good at math, this class is not for you. Her grading structure is VERY unforgiving, as every test is all or nothing. She grades the whole semester out of 100 points, and it is very easy to not get those points. Her lectures are very hard to follow.
Teaches the material very well. Gives really annoying 3 question quizzes where if you get one wrong you essentially fail. Didn't show up to class a couple times and missed a quiz which bombed my grade. She's very approachable and always encourages learning even outside of class. Never had an issue understanding the topics she taught.
If you suck at math, I wouldn't recommend. Quizzes are all or nothing, though you get a few attempts. Whole course is graded out of 100, attendance is 25%. There is no structure to her notes at all and she does about 2 practice problems on the board per quiz / concept. Then she expects you to use the provided to help yourself learn it after.
I absolutely love Professor Stone. I love her teaching style, she doesn't overcomplicate everything and explains it in the simplest way possible. I love that she goes over homework at the beginning of class. Beware though, there are weekly quizzes that either make or break your grade. There's usually three questions and each are worth two points
Awful professor. Lectures on only 1 or 2 example problems and expects you to know the material almost immediately. Pretty much a learn it yourself class. 2-3 question quizzes that are nothing like the homework and will tank your grade. The only thing saving this professor is that she allows you to retake 2 quizzes.
