Mixed bag. If you have strong mathematics skills, Ms. Vu's lectures and presentations help "reinforce" that strength. However, for someone without such skills, the lectures/presentations lack the desirable full "walk-through." Lastly, it seems that her grading does not hae much compassion - showing that your trying doesn't mean much; very b/w.
She is a very nice teacher who cares about her students and makes jokes during class. She prints out pwr points for each section to have notes to follow along during lecture, so all you have to do is listen and add to them. This is the only math teacher I've ever had do this, it is very helpful. She also lets you rewrite tests errors. She's great
Don't give her a bad rap because the class is difficult. She is very helpful!! All lectures can be printed out before class to follow along during class examples. Will answer any and all questions... no matter how stupid. Lets you make up tests and gives extra credit for some homework assignments. Very good teacher. Taking again for 3B.
Overall a pleasant and helpful person, IF you ASK for help (ppl, this isn't grade school for the teacher to chaise you!). Very organized with her lectures and the order in which material is presented. Tests are challenging: not only for hw completion but for UNDERSTANDING of material. Not the best, but a very good teacher, I'd give her 4 out of 5.
I'm taking her right now and I think she's probably the best one out there for Calc.3B. She's young and smart and never gets irritated when you ask her question. I'm gonna take her for her Math 4A and Stats. as well. Test might a lil bit challenging but DO your homework by understanding it not by coping from solutions manual.
I'm taking her Math 8 class right now, she's a great instructor, she's very nice, smart and funny, totally helpful, if you have a question, just ask, she'll help you 'til u have no more question.
Took her for 3A and 3B, very organized, clear, defintiely recommend
Amy is organized and knows what she is talking about! People that are complaining that her tests are hard are obviously not doing their homework. For 4A she only gives 1 homework problem per section so it is up to you to understand the rest of the material which is not unreasonable for a third semester calculus class :)
She is the best teacher I ever had in my life. She always tries to help student whenever they have any questions. She maybe a hard grader but still she rocks! Actually she inspired me to be a math major.
Amy is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She is organized, funny, extremeley helpful in office hours and in class, and it's a very reasonable class. If you do your homework and understand it her tests are straight forward. Learned a lot, exactly the kind of math prof you want- reality is that no caclc class is easy. Highly recommend!!
She probably teaches other subjects well but this was her first year with vectors. Although organized, not very knowledgeable. Easy A if you put a small amount of effort. Hardest thing was the final but I only needed a 55% to get an A and I didn't show up to last month of class.
She knows what she is doing and she is always nice and understanding towards students. Exams can be challenging but try to follow her directions.
She makes tons of mistakes and wastes the entire class period trying to find them. She doesn't appear to know how to do the problems herself. Her grading on tests is harsh. If you get one answer wrong and you need to use it on another problem you get both problems wrong even if you do the second one right. Avoid like the devil.
Prior to taking Math 4A with Amy Vu,I did well in Math 3A and 3B, earning an A in both classes. For Amy's class I did homework and got 100% all the time, but my test scores were horrible!I do her study guides,I study review questions, the tests don't SEEM hard,so the scores I get are very shocking.Shes not an easy grader. It's either right or it's not.
Do not take her class if u want a good grade. She doesn't like to help students with their problems, not teaches that good, and no problem solving during the class, she asks 8 pgs of questions on her exams.lol, absolutely Not take her class.
Organized. Clear expectations. Speaks English. Those 3 things are a MUST when it comes to math. She has them. If you can't do it, you either didn't give enough effort or you're just not too smart because she is VERY FAIR. People come here looking for easy-A teachers, which Vu is NOT, but if you're crazy and want to learn, then take her class.
I just finished her Statistics course over summer semester. It was pretty easy, I pulled a B+ with minimal studying, I didn't do the homework or reading she assigned either. Pretty satisfied with this class in general.
Amy is very nice and very willing to help during her office hours. The one thing I didn't like is she never collected HW, so of course I never did it. Her material is VERY simple, and I'm not a math person. DO THE HW (which is not a lot) to retain the information and it will be worth it. I might retake it for a better grade, since it's so easy
Excellent teacher. I took statistics(Math 10) after taking calculus, so her class was not a big challenge.Helpful and responds to E-mails quickly. However, I you want an A in her class, Do your homework! She does not give out passing grades. Many people think they are entitled to a passing grade and fail miserably. Effort is expected, not rewarded.
I took Amy for both Math 106 and Math 10 and both times she was extremely clear and helpful! If you don't understand go to her for help! She is more than willing. Any complainers on here were most likely looking for an easy A which you will not get from this class. This is college people!! Definitely felt prepared when I transferred to a 4 year.
It's very easy to loss points and hard to get it. she is not fear on grading. her quizzes ok exams hard. "I don't care if every body gets F in class." NOT easy A.
She is a very harsh grader- ruthless in one word. U either get it or not get it. She is good for those perfectionist students. She is nice and helpful during office hours but her grading sucks!Once u start losing points there is no frigging way of getting them back. Quizzes are timed and gives out an outrageous number of problems to solve!
I have a 3.8 GPA so I'm not a slacker, but do have dyslexia when it comes to math. This teacher was not helpful at all. In fact every time I had a question or was lost, she would either ignore my raised hand, or talk to me like I was stupid. Has a cold blooded demeanor & in fact seems annoyed that she has to instruct this class. thumbs down!
I'm not a good math student, and she is not easy. I just finished up my semester and I must say that I have learned a lot more in this class than I ever expected. She doesn't collect homework, but she assigns it. It's purely up to your own desire to pass this class. She's really funny and she is very good at explaining things. Only take if you're willing to work your ass off everyday like I did. Passed with a B though:) so happy
She goes EXACTLY by the text book section by section, goes LIGHT SPEED on the board, hard to keep up when copying. Not very helpful in office hours, doesn't seem like she even cares.Lectures are NOT planned out!Puts examples on lecture handouts to do in class and not before so she even gets stumped and will stand up front until someone says something.
I'm not a math person and before attending this class I was nervous about not passing but Amy Vu is such a great teacher. She is very clear and the way she teaches allows you to actually understand the material unlike other math teachers. It only takes 2 hours to study for this class per week. People only fail if they dnt study. I got a B take her!
Mrs. Vu is a good teacher but her class is very difficult. I would not recommend her unless you are very good at math. Quizzes every week make the class very fast pace. I normally get A's in math and I went to her office hours multiple times a week, and I still got a B.
I have gotten A's in my Math classes so far (103 & 106) but this class was SO frustrating I had to drop it even though I was getting an A. Hopefully someone else will be teaching Geometry because I did not like her teaching style at all. She did not explain the homework concepts well in class. I had to rely on other resources to learn the material.
i took her for stats and she is NOT a very understanding teacher. she doesn't let you make up the tests. if you miss one, thats to bad. she replaces your lowest test score with your final. has an accent, so its somewhat hard to understand her. dont take her.
Very intelligent professor, but if you do not have a prior understanding with the subject I would not recommend you take this class as your grade is purely based on examination. Despite this she is willing to answer ANY question.
She is not good at clarifying and expects you to know things. She is strict. Can't miss tests. But get to drop one test with final. She doesn't put stats in a clear way. You have to be good at math, if you are bad at math, you will probably fail. don't recommend.
I do not recommend this teacher. She expects you to know a lot about math already. She's NOT a good helper, often times she gives you a stupid look if you ask a question and she often answers questions sarcastically. Also, in her eyes, she's NEVER wrong. She makes a LOT of mistakes, and sometimes she'll ignore your questions and corrections.
She was very bad at explaining mathematical concepts and hard to follow along. If you want to pass the class, you HAVE to do the recommended book work. I wouldn't recommend her.
A little strict I suppose. She marked answers on my test incorrect, when in fact they were not... Multiple times. It freaked me out. Not a happy-go-lucky professor.
Great Stats Teacher! I don't know about the rest of these reviews from people that took other classes but her and stats is the way to go. With her, math is doable. (Still requires effort though, sorry)
Amy was challenging because she was fast. She expected you at this level to do your homework on your own and didn't require submission. If you are not disciplined you could get very behind. I am pretty good at math and I had some challenges with my discipline, but when I studied, I still got an A. Not easy, just do the work and you can do well.
I've taken Trig/Pre-calc and Math 03A with this professor(All A's). I'd highly recommend her for the lower-level math courses. However, for the higher-level math courses, she's a bit tough. She's good for students who have moderate to superb math skills but I'd avoid her if you struggle with math. Over-all, clear, organized, funny and NO ACCENT!
Amy is a great professor. She moves so fast with lectures though, difficult tests. Review and worksheet due mostly every week. Cranky in the mornings. Other wise great professor.
Great statistics teacher. If you follow her learning guide and work the problems there, you'll do great on the tests. You can access the weekly online quiz ahead of the due date, allowing you to get help on any problems that you don't understand. It definitely helps to work some problems after each lecture.
I really like the way her class is structured. It is VERY important to stay on top of the homework even though you don't have to submit it!! Unless you're certain of your answer, don't say it out loud in class because she will make you feel dumb...
I am pretty good at math, and have an A in Miss Vu's class. I did most of her homework, which is not mandatory, but NEEDS to be done in order to do well on the tests. The questions on the test are almost identical to the homework. However, several of my friends had to drop the class because they thought was too difficult.
She was awesome! i wanted to take her again but unfortunately her classes were full. I wasn't surprised, a lot of people liked her. I will take her again in the future. She is really straight forward, if you are confused stop her at once, she will help you.
She is AMAAAAZING! You don't need the textbook - which is awesome. Her class is very structured and you WILL definitely learn statistics. Take her. Would take every math class with her.
she the best math teacher
Great teacher! Very clear, with lectures that you print out and write on as she explains examples to you. Her quizzes are identical to the homework problems, so if you know how to do those you'll do fine on the quizzes. 6 quizzes, 3 tests, 1 final, and 4 reviews online. Highly recommend!
she is so awesome! i was very scared going into stats because im not good at math but she made me feel very comfortable. she is very helpful and it is impossible to get lost when she is explaining the material because she makes sure you understand. i would take every math class with her if i could. also very funny and laid back!
It isn't about being a math person or not, everyone can learn Trigonometry with Professor Vu and it will all make since. I was suprised/excited to see just how well my scores came out because Professor Amy Vu believed in me.
I took intermediate algebra, and trigonometry with Vu. Her lectures are very thorough, and she does a could job fully explaining concepts. Her lecture notes are very helpful. If your serious about physics or calculus, I highly recommend her trigonometry class.
Although I learned a lot, I believe it was more on my own than from her. She NEVER required textbook use (I still have it in wrapping) and a lot of the problems in the homework and online quizzes were flat out wrong, which she was willing to correct (for the most part) once she knew of them. Only for students who are confident in their abilities.
This class was pretty tough, but I did end up enjoying her teaching style! If you need the help, you need to go to her for it. She won't baby you, so you really need to stay on top of your own stuff. She helped prepare me for my Calculus class. I recommend her if you are going into higher levels of math, and need to know your material.
Amy is very organized in the way the class is taught. There are 4 sections meaning 4 exams, as well as HW from MML, generally no more then 10 questions per assignment, there are also worksheets you can consider take home quizzes plus extra credit opportunities. Amy made me really enjoy math I received a B after taking 106 multiple times. She Rocks
Amy is a great teacher! She's quirky and dorky and laughs at herself a lot, which makes her enjoyable. She's willing to help if asked and is extremely clear on assignments, homework, and exams. Her exams are similar to her study guide. I would recommend her.
Professor Vu is a very funny teacher and makes lectures interesting. There are a total of 5 exams including the final and an online and paper assignment due every week. Her online assignments are really tricky, so I recommend visiting the tutors in the Math Resource Center and visit her office hours. If you seek plenty of assistance you will be ok
This teacher has a clear cut curriculum. You will know when things are due throughout the semester with no surprises. A vastly underrated quality. Doesn't use mystatlab, which is nice. If you use her study guides, you will ace her tests.
This teacher has a clear cut curriculum. You will know what and when things are due with no surprises; a vastly underrated quality. Doesn't use mystatlab, which is nice. If you complete her study guides the way she recommends, you will ace her tests.
Professor Vu is a great teacher! Not only does she provide lots of opportunities to raise your grade with EC, but she's open to questions all the time. Classes include several tests with online reviews required before each. If you do the OPTIONAL hw and study the review, you'll pass the tests and quizzes. She takes problems right off the hw.
Amy is so fun. She really takes time to explain the math in real terms. I found her enthusiasm and humor made class enjoyable. I also enjoyed her stories to make math make more sense to me. Super awesome teacher that helps and is fun too.
Amy is a great teacher and will always take the time to explain things that you do not understand. She wants all her students to succeed and makes herself widely available outside of class through email and office hours to make sure you get all the help you need. All I can say is, if you need help, ask for it!
Amy has clear expectations and structures the class so that you will work hard but not be super stressed. Quizzes are frequent (based on the homework, which isn't collected); tests are very similar to review assignments. She is a fast grader. Do all the HW, take good notes, and go to office hours to get an A. A rewarding and even fun class!
That class is trash No help at all Never take her class again ! She do not teach you what is going to be on the test she teaches you some other and it do not be on the test
Incredible teacher. She does her best at explaining every single mathematical step at the beginning, but naturally expects you to know your stuff after some practice. She does assign homework every day, but it is always 10-20 easy problems. She also provides study guides that are an identical layout of her exams. Overall nice person as well!
She is great teacher. She is helpful, silly and punctual. Normally I hate math and suck at it but she made it easy to understand. She explains things clearly. Not much homework online. I recommend her.
I took her Stats class for Spring 2015 and it was pretty good. Usually you would use mystatlab but this class doesn't and instead we get worksheets that are easy credit if you pay attention. I thought Stats was going to be hard but it's actually really easy because she is a great teacher. I was 32 pts away from an A but it's all good. Take her!!!!!
Amy Vu, is phenomenal teacher. I had never once in my life gotten an A (really, anything above a C) in any math class. She is SUPER clear and won't move forward until she knows you get it. She takes crap from no one and if you don't respect your grade, it's on you. I'm taking her for all my math classes until transfer!
Easily the best math professor I have ever taken. She is one of those professors that really cares and really wants you to pass. I took her over the summer and I was expecting calculus to ruin my life, but her teaching method is so helpful I plan on taking all my math classes with her from now on. Great, organized, and helpful. You must take her!
She's a great, funny teacher who really pushes for you to pass. She wants to help you learn, tough class and I didn't like her at first but now I have to say she's my favourite.
The only class that didn't require myStatsLab/myMathLab (aka: the devil itself.) Very clear during lecture, provides notes, u just need to print them &fill in the blanks. Allows 1pg note-sheet on all tests!! Final is NOT cumulative. She's funny &tries to keep the subject from being too boring. Make sure u do the reading assessments/reviews!
Amy is the best math teacher ever. Any one who complained on this is only because they could not get it in their head that amy gives the answers for the HW. which is a huge part of your grade. Everyone should take her for any math class they can!! you will pass!! Do the HW and you will ace every exam!!! Sad i cant take her with me when i transfer
Easy class. Gives you notes that go with her slides. Reviews are basically the test . Helpful and funny.
Amy is the best professors I've ever had. She is clear, concise, and helpful. If you have any questions: ASK! She will answer them and will make sure you understand before moving forward. Anyone who has problems with her must not understand that her tests are the same as the review! Seriously! Just study and care a little bit and you're solid!
Amy is a great math instructor! I took algebra for 4 years between middle school and high school. That being said, math is not my best subject. Math 106s with Amy is a great course. She is very clear in explaining formulas and such. She answers your questions to her best ability. She makes math a breeze. Don't skip class and do your work!
Professor Vu is by far one of my favorite teachers at West Valley. She is extremely thorough with her lectures, has a good sense of humor, and gives you plenty of opportunities to get an A in her class. She gives out these "reviews" combining 2 to 3 chapters, and the review is LITERALLY the test, except the numbers are different. Take her class!
Extremely easy class. She lets you have a full sheet of notes and explains things very well. I tended to teach myself everything because i took an early class and didnt feel like paying attention.
Had her for summer term. Despite the class requiring us to learn Calculus in 6 weeks she did a great job explaining concepts and was always helpful in answering questions. Lots of homework but still manageable and she's generous with extensions. Has practice tests that are pretty much the actual tests with different numbers.
Summer course was fast, her teaching was okay. Her test study guides problems were done wrong herself so it can be difficult to know what is the correct way of working them. Lots of HW, Classwork, 4Exam, 1Final. Simple mistake will cost your grade. Very demeaning when she said, "If you get a C, You will fail Calc 2." Not the best teacher @ WVC.
I HATED math until I took Amy's class! I took her for Elem. Algebra and I just finished her Statistics class. She sticks to the schedule better than any teacher I've ever had, and I truly appreciate it. Some professors mess up their syllabus and it gets confusing, but she's refreshingly predictable. Printable notes & easy, understandable lectures.
As long as you show up, take lecture notes, and do the homework you'll be fine. We get a page of notes for each test which is more than enough.
3 exams, quizzes with exact problems from homework, SO DO YOUR HOMEWORK. She didn't use web assign, which i really appreciate. I hate web assign..
I had Math 3B with her! She is one of the best at West Valley College! Register for her class if you want to learn and are passionate about math! I wish she was teaching math 4A, 4B, and 4C!
She is the best calculus teacher I have ever taken. She teaches at a good pace and also allows breaks. I took her during the summer and I enjoyed the class. The study guides are exactly what the exams look like, except with different numbers. You can always ask for help and ask for clarification. I would take her for 3B but she wasn't teaching it.
I took her Elementary Stats course. I came in with this huge hatred and fear of stats and she completely changed my perspective. Her applications of the concept as well as the in-class notes really help you to understand stats. Best class of the semester, one of the best teachers at WV; everyone loves her. I really like stats now because of her.
Amy is a nice person great for the first two sections but once you go more in depth in the semester your on your own she goes way to fast and doesnt help when you ask only says to practice more which isnt helpful shes not very considerate as the semester goes on would not take her again
Amy is by far one of my favorite instructors here. She is extremely thorough with her lectures, has a good sense of humor, and gives you plenty of opportunities to get an A in her class. She's always accessible to review and help you out She gives out these reviews with two chapters, and the review is the exact same as the test itself! 100% rec
Amy knows her math and wants you to be stronger. Loves word problems and uses real world problems. Provides reviews for every test. Homework load is heavy and makes you work for your grade. She is willing to work with you if needed. Great sense of humor. Take the time to study her reviews and you will learn a lot and do great in this class.
Amy Vu is so straightforward. She gives a practice exam that is 20 q's, but the actual exam is only 10 q's with different numbers. She does not give that much homework, or the hw that was given was from a book, not online. There is a 2 problem (20 pt) quiz given every week, but the grades average out and it's questions from hw.
Really nice teacher. Made 106 go by in a breeze. The 20 review questions she makes you do during class reflect the same model as the ones on her tests, which helps a lot with studying. She takes time to talk to students who are struggling on a specific question as well. Daily HW but it isn't too hard.
lectures too much and talks way too fast
The calc series is hard as it is so it hard to fairly judge the professor. Amy was okay? She's a good teacher and a generous grader (partial credit). Gives straight forward Hw, test, and weekly quizzes. My only thing is that she lectures SO fast and skims over things. We were also using a new textbook so she wasn't familiar with the material.
Amy is great math professor for Math 3B. Her lectures are clear and she provided step by step answers to the materials. HW is online. Her exam is based on the study guide. She gives in class assignments and take attendance so it is important to show up for class. Take Amy if you want to learn math.
Does not actually teach, she reads word-for-word off of MyMathLab and from the textbook, without clear explanation of the concept itself. I can without a doubt say that I learned next to nothing in her class, because everything is just a matter of memorization. Grades tough on in-class assignments and tests.
Her lectures were confusing and if anyone asked a question she would look at the person like she thinks they are an idiot. She was not helpful if I was confused about a math problem. She cares more about looking smart rather than her students passing.
Shes quick at lecturing and moves fast in lectures. She is open and available to help and answer any questions but if math isnt your best subject theres a chance she might not be the best fit for you. Its nice though that she warns the class since the beginning of what they should already know in order to succeed in the course.
Amy is honestly such an amazing teacher and makes sure everyone understands the material. She is super clear on the material tested, study guides are basically the test. Study and you will do great! What I did was just re-do the problems from the study guide a couple of times.
She had the example problems on slides, and she would solve them on screen, and you just need to fill them in on the Chapter worksheet she provides. There is an in-class assignment that is based off an example she does in class. Lots of easy Extra credit opportunities and tests are open book open notes. Homework is similar to the in-class examples.
She is nice and patient. Most of the homework is the similar example that she teaches in Class. In the class, you have to listen to her lectures and fill in the keywords in your paper which she gave us. Review after class and ya will be golden(Test and exams are ok but not easy). There are a lot of easy Extras credits you could earn.
Assigns incredible amount of HW and busy work including group projects for an asynchronous math class, which are complete wastes of time. Also no lectures, copy pastes YouTube videos which tend to not be in the order you need to know to complete HW. ExtraCredit available if you can take workshops in the middle of the workday. Would go elsewhere.
Worst asynchronous class at West Valley. Amy Vu makes no effort to teach any of the material. Copy pastes youtube videos for lessons, assigns busy work for group projects, uses error-filled myopenmath for HW and Exams, and is generally hard to reach outside of class. You will need to teach yourself trig. Please quit Ms. Vu, you aren't even trying.
Never have I taken the time to write one of these and Ive had many professors good/bad but Vu to me is not a professor. Sure she post YouTube videos of the math she wants us to learn but they arent of her teaching. They are random ones she finds off YouTube. Expect to learn by yourself. Gives a ridiculous amount of homework and a group project!?
Great online math class. Weekly hw and quiz. Lots of opportunity for extra credit. Easy group project. Made learning calculus fun and easy. You won't regret taking calculus with her.
She does not have online lectures, you are basically teaching yourself everything. Be aware of due dates and discussion posts. She is very strict about her rubric. It was very hard for me. The exams were just like the homework. LOTS OF HOMEWORK WEEKLY!!
Prof. Vu's ASYNC linear algebra class works if you're good at learning on your own. Expect to rely heavily on the textbook (no lecture videos) and do a lot of HW (automatically graded by an app). Vu doesn't do much work, apart from grading quizzes (easy discussion posts). Tests are the same as HW and extra credit involves attending workshops.
I took this class for 4B asyncrounously and it was the freest A of my life. The homeworks all had solutions to go with them and the tests were questions taken from the homework. You may need to watch extra videos but it is not needed at all. The text book was probably the worst i've ever seen so I did not use it.
She left the course. Inconsiderate to anyone who tries to plan around the course b/c there are no alternative courses to go to at the point in which she dropped. NEVER register for a course with her as the teacher unless you are 100% certain she's not going to scam you and change the instructor (The person taking over will probably otherwise suck).
I was intimidated going into Math 4C looking at her rating. I was quickly proved wrong. She is very kind and her class is almost self-paced which really lowers stress. She offers extra credit and has a lot of opportunities for supplemental credit too. The HWs/Tests are on myMathLab which I really liked.
She did not do any teaching. She just asked students to use the video produced by the publisher. Those are dated and not engaging. She literally did nothing and just use the online platform for hw and tests. I would not recommend her at all.
If you need Math4C and want credits, take Amy Vu right now! Her class is self-paced and you will learn based on how much work yo put in. Lectures are from Youtube and homework help with a better understanding of the concept. Just a lot of homework on MyMathLab.
too much homework, does she expect us to be holed up in a basement working on linear algebra problems 24 hours a day?
One of the worst professors I've ever had. The lecture videos that she provides aren't even hers, she gives out loads of homework that takes you at least 2 hours to finish for each day, and on top of that, she makes you pay for Pearson. She doesn't lecture, grade, and has no regard for students' work/life balance. Take her if you need the credits
I am currently taking this Math class and have not finished but I am more than half way done with this course and it has been amazing. Her lectures are simple and precise and very easy to understand. Lectures are directly correlated with the Homework making it easy to understand HW. Highly recommend this professor
Great teacher. Lots of homework (20-25 problems a day for 4 days a week). The lectures correspond very well with her homework and its easy to get answers on homework problems (the "View An Example" section is very beneficial). Uses MyMathLab and Pearson-- be prepared to read the textbook regularly. Test problems correspond to homework problems.
Very chill professor. There is a lot of homework, but the class is self-paced and you are able to always work ahead. I highly recommend doing the HWs ahead because it will be a key to success in this class. Exams are very similar to the homework so put an effort in them. Solid choice for math 4B
She's a good prof. The entire class is done asynchronously. HW didn't really matter but its on mylabonline which can be a pain. Exams are open note and are the same types of questions as HW but just different numbers. Not a particularly easy class but participation helps keep your grade up and is really easy to do (discussion posts and whatnot). I
When it comes down to it, hw is the most important in this class. 4-5 hw a week with only a 5% late penalty. Working ahead is key as some take a while. Exams are hw problems with different numbers and open note. If you do the hw you can use them on the exams for the easy A. Once you put in some effort and build a routine this class is super easy.
DON'T TAKE HER FOR SUMMER. She does not teach at all, you have to spend $ on Pearson to watch the prerecorded videos. Only reason for the low rating is because of the ridiculously long homework, she expects you to watch 2 videos and finish 30-40 questions a day. Grading is fair and she helps you if you reach out.
Take this professor at all costs
Tests are just the homework and the homework is online with multiple tries and explanations. Besides some graded discussions and some other participation work that's all there is to the class. If you don't mind learning on your own this is safe class to take.
Responds to emails quick, grading is very fair. You automatically get 10/25-30 points for each test, retake on quizzes, lowest one drop. There is a LOT more homework compared to other async mathematics courses so be prepared for that.
One of my favorite professors! Although this is an online course, she is VERY quick to respond. I would do the quizzes early in the morning and she would grade and give feedback a few hours later at 7am. Homework is a lot but she opens the course two weeks early so I would take advantage and start early. There are 4 exams, 6 quizzes, 3 discussions.
Professor Vu is a really kind prof who wants to see kids succeed. This class was difficult because of its concepts but if you start early on the homework and practice a lot the problems won't be too difficult. Tests are very very similar to homework so make sure to study those. Would recommend to anyone!
One of the best professors at WVC! I have taken all my math courses with her and I enjoy how much she is able to connect with us even in an online class. There is a lot of homework but spacing it out and doing it early helps! She opens the class early and there is plenty of extra credit.
Amy Vu is a very very kind professor. HOWEVER, I would literally never take this course again. The tears I cried were unimaginable. The course is extremely fast passed and rigorous. The amount of homework she assigns is insane and unnecessary, sometimes even taking me 7-9 hours per assignment. Exams were from hell, though quizzes were quite easy.
Professor Vu is great - very responsive and the homework aligns well with the exams. While the workload is heavy, using tools like Unstuck AI can make it more manageable. Her lectures are clear and the course is well-designed for online learning. Overall, it's a challenging but rewarding class.
Very doable
Prof Vu is super kind and always willing to help. I took her for 4A,4B,4C and the classes are very straightforward as long as you stay on top of due dates and homework. Additionally every test but the final lets you go through your homework which is amazing because you can double check your work. If you have the option PLEASE TAKE HER!!!
Her hw is online and you have to pay for it but it helps alot for tests and quizzes. Take good notes on lectures and hw because it is the exact information on the tests and quizzes, because you can use all your notes on the tests.
Amy Vu is an awesome professor, she's kind and responsive to emails/any questions and a good lecturer. However, do NOT take this class if you expect a light workload!!! So much homework (~10 hours a week if you actually do it), and the tests are unimaginably hard, even if you study. This class is extremely difficult in terms of workloads/tests.
Great lecturer. Explains concepts clearly and prepares you well for tests. Everything is open notes, so make sure to attend class and get everything written down. It is really easy to fall behind on hw, so make sure to stay on top of it. She is very receptive to questions and always willing to help. Highly recommend.
It's an easy class, just do the homework. Quizzes, midterms and the final are literally just the homework problems with different numbers. She's also available outside of class.
$111 for learning platform, and its Cengage (better than Pearson Mastering and MGH Connect, at least). Offered ~5% EC. Used another teacher's lectures (?), but hw was easy. Tests were straight from hw - not too hard if you understand the concepts. Gave us multiple attempts on the final for some reason. Overall not too challenging for diffeq.
While I failed Calculus, it definitely wasn't Professor Vu's fault. She is really good at breaking down the material to make it understandable and verifies your learning with exit tickets every class. I recommend following along and taking extensive notes and practicing to make sure you understand what you're doing. Find a study group!
