I absolutely loved class with Amy. She was helpful on every single topic we covered and always related the material to real life. If more professors were half as good as she is, more students would be interested in their classes.
Her PowerPoints are long and sometimes she talks too fast. Laptops and phones aren't allowed. There are 4 exams throughout the semester that are difficult. Reading the chapters, going to lecture, and studying are the key to success. She is available in office hours and through email for questions. Interesting class. Experimetrix for credit
It is easy if you put in the effort. You must read the textbook to pass exams.
She's kinda crazy about things like cheating and Laptops and phones aren't allowed. She will literally spot someone sitting in the back of a 500 person room whose on their phone. What she talks about is interesting usually. You must read the books for the exams, and they are NOT easy at all.
Awesome prof. Lectures are funny and interesting. Very straightfoward. Exams are easy if you read, study a little and go to class. Wish I could take more classes with her. Anyone who says this class is overly difficult didn't put in the effort.
Lots of homework and strict.
Doesn't post your grades so you have no idea how you are doing in the class. She lectured I think once the entire fall semester the rest were guest speakers. Doesn't use D2L which makes it hard to communicate her project expectations clearly to students. The irony of a communication class with poor communication...
She is obviously dedicated to the course and wants it to be taken seriously. But she is short tempered and overly driven. For some this class is easier than anything, and she wont like your too cool for school attitude. If you are shy and quiet... get all the help you can, the course was designed to teach you how to conduct yourself.
She is probably one of the worst professors to take this class with. She grades extremely hard and for a class like Business Communications, that's not a good thing.
Takes business communications class too seriously; though the skills are important, they could be taught in a better way and many already have them. Requires attendance at all of her lectures, requires that you use TopHat, and gives unreasonably specific quizzes during each class. MSU should offer another professor for this class.
Wisner is an awful professor, would recommend trying your hardest to not have to take her class. Attendance is required but I never took any notes, and half the time she doesn't even lecture because she brings in a guest speaker. Most of the work is important but stuff you probably already know. Just an awful class highlighted by an awful professor
Worst professor i have had at msu. basically you know everything before taking the class. it is a complete waste of time. she makes you buy top hat instead of using i clicker. attendance is required and you can literally not miss a lecture without losing points. attendance is a huge part of your grade along with dumb papers and group presentations.
awful. don't buy book tho
This is the worse professor I have ever met. She don't listen to what her student is trying to say, TA sucks as well... You learn nothing about this class it is all about self learning and study.
The people giving Prof. Wisner a low score must not have even tried to do well in her class. She really cares about students becoming good communicators. Thats a skill thatll set us apart in our careers. Good class.
Great professor who really cares. Do the work and youll get a good grade.
I just got a great job because of the work we did in this class. I felt more prepared than I ever would have before this class. And Prof Wisner goes over and above to coordinate the Wisdom Project. You can tell she cares about her students and MSU in general.
Enthusiastic about course content and an easy 4.0. Show up to both lectures and recitations, participate, do your homework, and there's no reason why you shouldn't get a 90 or above in this class.
Didnt think I would learn anything in a required communication course. I was wrong. Great class, great prof.
One of my favorite classes so far, and I graduate in May. The Wisdom Project is an outstanding experience. I am impressed that a professor is willing to go to such great lengths to give students this opportunity. FYI, it is a communication class, be prepared to communicate.
Amy Wisner knows her stuff. Take time to meet with her. She is really nice and obviously cares about students. Office hours fill up fast. So schedule early. Great class and great prof.
I wish more professors were like professor Wisner. She inspires me to be a better version of myself. I look forward to the day that I can come back and be an alum participating in the Wisdom Project. Highly recommend any class she teaches.
Amy Wisner is a great professor. She obviously cares about the subject and about her students. Definitely take this class from her.
The best thing about the professor is that she really cares about her students. I took the time to meet with her to discuss my career interests. She gave me so much great insight and took a lot of time out her really busy schedule to answer my questions. Take the time to meet her. She's not just another professor cashing a paycheck.
I like her enthusiasm. Her lectures keep me awake. Easy 4.0 if you put in the effort. She expects a lot... don't expect a blow off class.
If you show up to all of the classes and follow instructions for assignments. You will 4.0. There's also a lot of extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
Great class, great prof. I learned a lot more than I thought I would. Lots of work but definitely worth it.
Lots of work, but you get a ton of time in recitation to work on stuff. Learned something new each week. Much better than I expected.
The grading is so ridiculous in this class that they need to handout around 25 points of extra credit (roughly +5% to your total grade) just so students can get a chance to 4.0 the class. The rubric is unclear on every single assignment so be prepared to do badly on almost every assignment but still somehow get a 4.0 in the end
Learned more in this class than any of my other classes so far at msu
Expects a lot, so be prepared to work. The class isn't a bunch of mindless crap that you can just memorize... which is probably why people complain about it being hard. You actually have to learn something. Crazy, right? We'd all be better off if more teachers were like her. Was glad for the extra credit because I blew off the 1st book chapter.
Thanks to this class I got an internship. Had no idea how bad my cover letter and interviewing was before. Take it soph year.
I found this class to be pretty straightforward. If you show up and do the work, you can get a good grade. Plus, the Wisdom Project is awesome if you get paired with someone good. The blog post at the end is not an easy A. Ask your TA for help.
Very beneficial class. Meet the professor. She is funny and nice. oh, and she loves her baby and dogs. Shell show you pics if you ask :) She helped me make some hard decisions about internships and my major.
Its nice to have a professor who cares. Lots of work, but its not busy work. The TAs give good feedback, especially on the writing assignments.
So glad this class was required because I never would have taken it. I learned something new each week. Got pushed out of my comfort zone which was hard but good. Great feedback on assignments. The professor really cares about students. I was lucky to have her as my recitation instructor too. At first I was nervous about that but she is awesome.
I don't like doing speeches or writing papers and this class has a lot of both. When I saw the syllabus I expected to hate it. But Professor Wisner made it not suck. She is enthusiastic and explains why this stuff matters. I'm still never going to love speeches or papers but I got better in this class. Show up and do Top Hat to 4.0 class.
This class is a lot of work. Grading is brutal at times but as much as I hate to say it, I'm glad it was. My writing sucked and I didn't even realize how unprepared I was for interviewing or presenting. Find someone who is organized an good at keeping track of assignment deadlines. Become friends with that person. There is so much to keep track of.
Great prof. I liked the class.
She has a heart and soul. She obviously cares about students. Its refreshing.
This is the best required class at Broad.
This class is a lot of work - but it's not busy work. I really like Professor Wisner and my TA. I'm already using what we're learning in my interviews.
I am shocked by how many people show up unprepared for this class. The presentations are atrocious. If you take this class seriously, you're bound to be a top candidate for jobs. Great opportunity to hone your speaking and writing skills. The class isn't a blow off, but it's not hard.
Great prof. Great TA. Great class.
Amy Wisner is by far the worst professor I have ever encountered. After 4 years of college, I have never been more disappointed in my university. Her course does NOT prepare you for the real world. Everything is busy work that is subjectively graded to make her course seem like it is actually worth something. She is very harsh with students.
Teaches communications which is super easy so she feels the need to make hard deadlines and no exceptions.
Best class Ive taken at MSU. Professor Wisner expects a lot out of students but youll learn if you want to.
This class greatly improved my communication skills. Im glad it was required.
Professor Wisner is an average professor. She has many faults including being very snippy during lectures and making the students feel dumb. There are many assignments in this class, some of which are graded unfairly as a group. The group presentations suck. Unfortunately, this class was required otherwise I would have dropped it.
Best professor and best class Ive had at MSU.
I loved this class and Professor Wisner. She always managed to bring enthusiasm and positivity into a huge lecture. I looked forward to her class every week. My internship has shown me that the skills you learn in this class are really as important as she says they are. Im glad I had to take this class.
The skills I learned in this class have helped me so much already. From getting my internship, to preparing materials for my boss. I also have to give a big presentation in a few weeks and I kinda wish Prof Wisner was here to help me!! Or maybe even my TA
Great prof. Great experience.
This class is by far the best class I've taken at MSU. It's a lot of work and feedback is tough at times but Professor Wisner and my TA both obviously really care about students. The quizzes are no joke. Make sure you really read. The Wisdom Project is the best experience ever. Great class.
Prof Wisner makes this class fun and practical. really wish I would have taken it sooner. Trust me, take it your sophomore year. Wisdom Project is awesome too.
Professor Wisner seems like she would be a very nice person outside of the classroom, but in my opinion is a very poor teacher. Her D2L was very unorganized and she refused to provide any additional resources to her students. She refuses to take and apply any feedback she receives which in my opinion is the worst quality a professor can have.
Unorganized class. Very little instruction on homework and low class grades as result. No resources provided to students
Bad professor. She doesn' take feedback, full of herself. Very easy class content, extreme grading on assignments. No instructions or rubrics, students are expected to get lucky and do what the TA likes. grades are low across the board for every student, not dependent on the work you put in the class or your skills as a student.
So - like many other business students i HAVE to take this class and there are no other teachers for this class sooo Pros: - First unit of class is actually beneficial (cover and thank you letters, etc.) - Quizzes r the same questions as tophat readings Cons: - Some projects/assignments are ridiculous - unorganized - Quizzes every lecture
She is the worst professor i have met in msu. There are so many assignment and tas are strict on the grade of the assignment. She asked for feedback but she never improve herself. Every week there is a quiz and a assignment and the due for assignment is so tough.
The amount of work for this class is ridiculous. What should be straight forward assignments, instead are unorganized, tedious/extremely time consuming, and inconsistently graded. Even if you do what the rubric says, Grades received are not dependent on the Effort or skill level of student; so hopefully you do what ur ta likes.
Actually the worst professor I have ever had. She is absolutely terrible, I seriously cannot emphasis it enough. The course is a good idea. You learn how to create resumes, cover letters, and do interviews. However, her execution is beyond awful. Ridiculous grader, extremely unhelpful, rude, condescending, and unbelievable unreasonable. SO BAD!
The only professor I have ever actually hated. Does not care at all about her students, their future success, or their grade in her course. Restricts nearly all learning material and also grades so hard it actually doesn't make sense. It is so clear she is looking for any excuse possible to take points off. To make it worse she is straight up lazy.
Professor Wisner is the best professor Ive had at MSU. She really cares about students, takes our feedback into consideration, and is soooo helpful if you meet with her. I am shocked by the complaints people have posted. This has been my favorite class at MSU so far. I seriously wish she taught more classes.
You need to be organized to stay on top of things in this class. Not the blow off I thought it would be. I met with Professor Wisner several times. Shes very kind and genuinely cares about students. I did try to talk her into letting me make up an assignment I missed. Shes hard core about the course policies.
I learned so much in this class. Its not easy though!! Be prepared to work and go to help room. The TAs and prof wisner are awesome
Some useful material in class but very unorganized. Grading from TAs is way too strict as it is an entry level class. Wisner was very vague with rubrics and assignment deadlines. Preached time management to the class however gave out the final study guide 10 hours before exam... Claimed she was purposely disorganized to simulate real life...
I LOVED this class and so did all my friends. Prof Wisner teaches with enthusiasm and makes a huge class seem more personal. She teaches students so they really learn. You cant just blow off this class. The negative reviews are probably from people who are unorganized or didnt try. The class has 600 students, there are gonna be some haters.
AWESOME PROF!! Great class.
Excellent class and professor; most useful class Ive taken at MSU. Definitely not the cake class I thought it was going to be. My TA was great and so were the others I met in help room.
I am glad this class was required, because I would not have taken it otherwise. Public speaking terrifies me. But Professor Wisner and my TA helped me grow sooo much. I am much more confident and grateful for the regular impromptu speeches. Group work usually sucks, but it was pretty good in this class. Lots of great real world stuff not busy work.
What a great teacher!! I honestly cannot say enough about this class. Professor Wisner taught us so many valuable skills. The Wisdom Project is amazing, all of the career preparation was incredibly helpful, and the presentation practice made the entire class so much better. The class is a LOT of work, though. Be prepared to work.
This class was required for me and I wouldnt have taken it otherwise. It was a lot of work but looking back and I am happy that I took it as I do believe it lead to lots of personal growth. Professor Wisner will push you towards success!
The class has non specific grading criteria and is far too toughly graded. There is not enough time to do everything, and recitations are far too rushed. Many important course materials are not posted online for no reason, and you cannot miss a single class. Would not recommend.
Grading was ridiculously hard, beyond logical explanation. She was an ironically terrible communicator, I was always having to check the syllabus b/c she never told us anything. She constantly had us sucking up to her for grades. Also, I took this class during coronavirus and it was obvious she put zero effort in to adapting the course for online.
I appreciated her effort to engage students through the optional Zoom social events she hosted, however, I was frustrated with the ironic lack of communication there was throughout the semester regarding expectations for certain assignments. She's a wonderful professor and created the insanely helpful "Wisdom Project," but I was often confused.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. She doesn't care about students' mental wellbeing because she's so full of herself and knowingly making it harder for students to get a 4.0 in the course. The grading for this course is so tough and you receive little to no feedback on how you can improve. Worst class to take during the pandemic!
The class wasn't bad, coming from an introvert. Weekly reflections and assignments that can be done in a few hours. Weekly presentations, mandatory recitations, and group projects. Lectures seemed pointless but are part of your grade. Grading is a bit nitpicky, but becomes easy when you know what is expected. Class average gpa was 3.6, overall easy
Wisner is a nice lady, but the class is very nit-picking with grades and often give vague instructions. Her TAs are the ones who grade all your assignments, so depending on your TA, this class is either a joke or a pain in the rear. This class is A LOT of busywork and you only really learn one or two useful things in a sea of buswork.
Not a difficult class, but participation matters. Easy riding until the last month and a half, and then lots of presenting and projects. Professor just sets up class, then never hear from her again. TA acts as teacher. Lots of skills gained, class is worthwhile.
class is taught by the TA not the prof, you really don't ever see her other than a few intro videos. class starts out relatively easy then last month and a half is all presentations and group projects. while the class wasn't my favorite i learned a lot from it and it will help in the future.
Prof is a little absent from class, TA taught but if you have a good TA the course is fairly easy. Not much homework, but a lot of in class participation and group projects/presentations at the end. Easy to get help and ask questions to prof or TA. While prof is not present in class she is very friendly and easily reachable by email.
Professor Wisner is very caring and often very funny. She talks about personal examples and experiences which makes the class even more interesting. Attendance is required and you need to participate. The homework isn't bad
Not a clear grading scale. Overall course material is quite useful however, the class structure is to much and over complicating.
Professor Wisner and my TA helped me learn so much. Honestly, if you want to grow, you will. If youre just checking boxes for a grade, youll be annoyed. However, I recently heard that Wisner changed the entire course. Sounds totally different now.
This class is a complete joke. I dont know how MSU keeps this in the business school. Most of this stuff is completely irrelevant to a a college student and is basically glorified busywork for high school freshmen. Professor doesnt have a clue and thinks she is some sort of communications guru. Cant stop talking about how awesome her class is.
Absolutely terrible communicator, projects feel like they have constantly moving goalposts that even she does not know where they will end up. Speaks down on students often, although not always intentional, but carries an attitude of "I know better than every student, always have - always will".
The recitation and weekly journaling is most of the course. If you don't care to grow as a person, you can get by doing almost no work and still 4.0. She completely changed the course this semester, so grading is not at all an issue and it is meant for you to develop as a person. Honors option is easy.
Amy is very nice and caring, and the overall content of this class isn't too hard. It's just a very confusing setup, there are no "grades" in this class, and sometimes I felt like there was a disconnect in what my TA said and what Amy would say, lectures are boring and pretty much the same thing every time
This class does not deal with Marketing at all. It is a mess of a class where you get to decide what your grade is, even if you put absolutely zero effort into the class. You're taught that employers care more about your personal development journey rather than actual job-related skills. Also, Amy Wisner is late to her OWN lectures!
Class is based on self growth with no grades. Lecture on Monday seems pointless, lots of busy work throughout the week, and 2 hour recitations (very interactive/some presentations). All easy work based really on participation, but seems like a waste of time. Only good thing is you connect with Broad Alumni and make a personal website.
The class itself was a little confusing at the start but was pretty easy. Overall I would definitely recommend taking the class, but be prepared not to be able to contact the professor at all. I reached out to Amy a multitude of times over the semester and every time she blew me off or didn't respond. Take the class, but be prepared to be confused.
Professor Wisner is never accessible outside of class and doesn't even tell you what you are being graded on. Overall a very confusing class. I have been trying to contact her about my honors option for the past month and still haven't gotten a response nor has she even approved my forms when I sent them almost 5 months ago.
You grade yourself, but don't learn anything useful in the lectures. Preaches being "open-minded," yet brings on the same exact guest speaker every lecture that shares their viewpoints. Can't question her, or she'll respond basically saying "I'm right and you're wrong." Recitation is only the useful knowledge and skills I've learned.
The worst professor I've had. Her lectures are a waste of time and are filled with her trying to force her political beliefs on you. Nothing that she taught was remotely close to business communication and I would highly recommend never taking her class if it wasn't mandatory. She also blames her students for her own lack of teaching abilitiy
This class does not have any grades. If you show up and participate you will receive a 4.0. Many students do not like the professor but that is because they do not have an open mind. Trust the process and know that it is a new experience. Prof Wisner wants to challenge her students to be better people and learn more about themselves.
You pretty much get to pick your own grade for MKT 250. However, participation really matters, so if you don't show up to recitations or do the homework assignments you most likely won't get a 4.0. But homework is super easy and not much of it. As long as you show up and participate you'll get an A.
If I could I would take her for every class at MSU, very sweet, helpful, and teaches us the most relevant topics in today's society.
Very opinionated! No area for discussion or sharing of ideas. She is not very accessible. I felt that my opinion added no value to any class discussions.
