great teacher, very intelligent! She is able to break things down step by step so students can understand very clearly.
Pretty hard class but what do you expect...I would def suggest going to all classes or else you will be confused! tests HARD with few questions do study sheet, go thro all notes and go to review day before test. book is rarely used. she is very helpful if you talk to her but she claims she doesnt get specific on test but DEFINITELY DOES!
Do not take this professor, she is a nice person and thats about it. She is new teacher, she knows the information, but reads off the powerpoint. She does not teach at all. She would like you to know all this information but does not test on it. She will state one thing for exam and test you on another all the time.
she is very nice, but don't let her niceness fool u. her tests are ridiculous for the sole reason that he lectures you on one thing and tests you on another. the only way to pass the tests are to memorize every last details of the book. there is really no need to look at her lecture notes because that equals failure.
Horrible teacher! Like the other reviews, says one thing is on the exam and then its not. She is very very detailed with her exams and claims she won't be. Wants you to know ridiculous amounts of information but only tests you on some. Basically reads right off her powerpoint. If possible, avoid at all costs taking this professor!
She has high expectations, but she is not a hard teacher. Take her! If you're willing to study your notes and show up for class, then it won't be that hard of a class.
She pretty much reads off powerpoints and then rambles on about her 'superstar' fruits. Is a nice professor but gives so much information it is really hard to know it all for an exam. Am taking another bio professor next quarter.
Very straightforward teaching style. She gives you a note outline and follows her outline - she doesn't jump all over the place. She reviews before each exam and tells you what to make sure you know. She is very nice and enjoyable to listen to in lecture. Taking her again next quarter!
Horrible teacher. She rushes through her power points. They are in no way detailed. They are just an outline of what you should know. She talks so much and expects you to know the material already. She isn't teaching it but reviewing it. Do not take her. Nine chapters will be on one exam.
She does give A LOT of info but she is extremely nice and will explain things for you if you are confused. I have taken higher level BIO classes, so maybe the class is just easy for me because I have already learned everything
I'm fine with her as a teacher. Some people have the teaching gift and some don't. What I'm not fine with is how she seems so disinterested in her students. She just wants to get throught the power points as quick as possible and speed through answering any questions students may have.
Amy is a good teacher, she knows what she is talking about. However, she zooms through her lecture so quickly, I barely had enough time to write down all her notes. She also refused to post her powerpoints online. She also goes so quickly that you don't even have time to comprehend what shes saying.
The class itself is hard. However, if you read the chapters and go to class and takes notes her tests are fairly easy. The final however is pretty ridiculous. If you are into this kind of stuff you will like her because she loves what she teaches. If you don't like this kind of stuff you may struggle to enjoy this class.
She doesn't really teach you the information, she just kind of spills it out. Gives you a set of notes however you need to add a lot in and she goes way too fast. The tests were pretty hard and the final had a ridiculous amount of information on it. I would suggest getting a tutor for this class.
It's a hard class but if you study you can pass. I was 15 points away from an A and if I had studied more for the second test I would probably have gotten the A. There are only 3 tests so they're all very important. Not a lot of room for mistakes. The class was OKAY, the lab was pretty fun.
Amy does go through the powerpoints fairly quickly and doesn't post them but I took notes and never cracked the book. Definitely go to class because she won't cover the whole chapter so some stuff isn't on the test. Lab was easy just don't be late or you'll miss the quizzes and that kills your grade.
Amy is awesome! Her lectures are very thorough. She wont post her notes online because she wants people to attend class. Her pace is adequate for a college level class. Her tests are super easy, and she even drops the lowest exam grade. Really fun prof and overall good instructor!
Her lectures are very informative and most of her exam questions come directly from the notes that are online. Be prepared for alot of material needed to know in only a certain time period. Can be stressful. Amy herself is very fun and a good person :)
Very good prof! Absolutely love her! She does a very nice job and keeps the class entertained. This class is no where near boring and she posts the notes online to make it easier. Although, attending class is a must! Very simple tests :)
Amy creates really good lectures and powerpoints that are crystal clear. She is also understanding towards students and our work load. Her exams are easy and I learned a lot from her. I highly recommend taking a class by her!
This was my second class with her. If you just go to class, take notes and go to lab, you will do fine.
If you do not have to, donot take her! She seems nice from a distance, but is very rude personally. She does not care about you as a person and has no compassion for your personal life, no matter what is going on. Take a professor that is understanding and cares.
Prof. Wissman is great. You can def. tell she is a mom =p. This class peaked my interest--as long as you read the material and go over the slides, you will do fine! The quizzes are online and super easy, so don't miss out on those. Go to ALL of your labs and put in the work--they are easy. If you don't pass the lab, you won't pass the class.
She does an excellent job at explaining the material, posts notes online, and her expectations aren't unrealistic. Her tests are multiple choice but you definitely still need to have a good understanding of the info. Helpful and respectful when answering questions, not at all boring during class.
Fantastic prof. She really knows what shes talking about and does a great job of explaining it. The class is interesting and enjoyable. She has a great personality and is really funny. If you go to class and pay attention, you will do well. Definitely recommend this class!
Not a horrible professor, but not great. She tends to say "you don't need to know that for the test," but sure enough, it appears on the test. It is not hard to get a B in the class. Labs aren't bad as long as you get a good TA.
She teaches from the Powerpoint but makes sure to emphasize everything that's on the test. Usually posts everything online. Class is not that boring, considering how dull the subject material is. She's good at relating it to things that actually apply to students outside of class. Accommodating to everything but missing a test. Labs were easy.
I hated having to buy the clicker, and the labs were unpleasant, but I liked Amy as a prof. She relies entirely on powerpoint, but they're easy to understand and supplement the reading well. She's passionate about food and biology, and she tried to make it interesting to us.
She goes very fast and is hard to write down everything on the slide. She should have let us print out the slides like previous quarters.
Amazing professor! I took her through BIO 105, 106, and 107. A great trifecta! She is amazingly helpful and can be really funny. Her tests are pretty easy (3 classes and 3 A's) but you have to pay attention in class.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!! She expects way too much from you. She told the class "If I ask you what this means I expect you to tell me right away." Honestly I've studied several nights a week and still did horrible on her exams. The class average's grade dropped 10% on the 2nd test. Trust me avoid her at all cost!!!
She's not horrible but definitely not the best. All she does is read from her slides. She allows you to print off the slides prior to class, but not all of the info are on your slides. Shes not friendly or helpful when asking questions and Tests are VERY hard!
Awesome Instructor!! She does cover a lot of material in the class so it's beneficial to print the slides off prior to attending. The information on the slides are typically what she tests from so committ them to memory. Exams are NO SURPRISE. Though attendance is not required she goves over extras during class so it's to your benefit to show up!
She is such an amazing teacher. She is very organized and as long as you pay attention, take notes and study those notes, you'll pass with an a, if not a b, very easily. I love her as a teacher.
She is a very great teacher and I have enjoyed taking this class. The tests are easy and she explains everything well. She goes sort of fast on the powerpoints.
She gives you outlines of the PowerPoints she uses in class but refuses to actually post them. As long as you follow her outlines and study them you should do fine. I read about 2 chapters of the textbook before realizing it was a waste of time. She tells you what will be on exams. Just follow the outlines!
This class is EASY. She tells you exactly what she expects. If you do poorly, well, it is your own fault.
she goes off of powerpoints which may seem long but trust me every word is worth writing because she gives you exactly what to know and she drops your lowest exam but final is mandatory. i loved this class!!!
Amy is a really good teacher! Just make sure you go to class and take notes because that's what will help you the most. The tests were really easy, too. Just a warning: she goes pretty fast on her powerpoint notes, so write fast.
Great teacher. Easy A if you go to class and take notes. She types all notes and puts them online, you just have to fill in the blanks.
I thought that the class was easy. She goes through the powerpoints quickly making it difficult to get down everything you need unless you download the outlines. She goes way into detaiIs I thought she was nice.
she is very good, but the problem is the note, doesn't be submitted online.
Her class is super easy, if you print the notes and attend class. I barely used the textbook because her tests are straight from the notes. Her notes are fill in the blank, so you have to attend class. Plus no final! Great professor!
Though her class IS super easy and the book is of no use, Amy is a prime example of why our education system is in the hole. She runs through the motions, not caring if anyone learns anything, just to get paid. It's just a typical boring lecture. Easy if you just show up for the notes, tests, and labs.
Good professor, easy A as long as you show up to class and lab. She doesn't post notes, so going to class is a must. Textbook is HIGHLY unnecessary. Exams are very straight forward. It's a simple Gen. Ed. class, so take your sciences with her.
She was a great teacher. As long as you come to class or ask others in your lecture for notes you'll do well. Everything on her tests is in her notes and is worded almost exactly the same way too. It just requires some study time. She also posts grades after only a couple days. So I definitely would recommend taking her classes!
Excellent instructor. She clearly presents her expectations at the beginning of the course and follows through. The class consists of five exams, the lowest of which is dropped. Highly recommend.
This professor is excellent and very helpful in keeping students informed on what is upcoming in the schedule. She is very flexible with schedules and absences. HW = cake. Quizzes are normally online.
Great prof shes kind and understanding i took her class when we had a rough winter and she was very lenient with commuter students on attendance. Book is not very needed as long as you attend class and really take notes its easy if you do the work to study if not you get lost in the info but deff a prof worth taking!
She tries to be funny and sometime succeeds. It's an easy class.
Amy is an awesome professor and very informative. Class is not mandatory, but it would really help especially if BIO isn't your best subject. Her test are fairly easy and she does not give any trick questions. Also you can print your notes before class and you can fill in the blanks before class. She is very approachable and fair. Highly recommend!
Mrs. Wissman is an excellent professor!!!!! Lecture can be long an boring but she makes it interesting. It is a very fun class and if you ever need help she is there to help. :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Amy is a great instructor. She kept the attention of a large lecture hall extremely well. She cared about making the material interesting for her students and how her students did. She is extremely fair. The class was not very difficult (as it is an introductory course), but it was extremely practical and very interesting. This is a fun Gen-Ed!
This class is offered in a 300 person lecture so she can't really afford a lot of questions since the material must be covered quickly. However, she made power points that had good pictures and were pretty informative. If you to go to class every day and take good notes and you'll be fine.
Great Professor! I hated biology in high school but loved this class! Shes as helpful as she can be! Go to class and take notes and you will barely use your textbook. Study for the exams, but overall an easy class with a little bit of effort! Amy has great examples and stories to tell! 4 exams, online quizzes, lab. Not cumulative.
Straight to the point, very helpful, she's a rockin' babe.
Professor Wissman takes what could be a very difficult class and makes it enjoyable and manageable. Attendance isn't required, but you will want to be there to hear the stories and tips given for memorization of life cycles, symptoms, etc. Amy is also very organized and all course materials were loaded to Pilot in a timely manner. Great Professor!
I enjoyed this class, it was pretty relatable so it was easy for me to study and test well. Her lectures are very useful (and mandatory for notes!) and she even will hint some test questions in her lectures. Basic level tests, some are a bit easy. Studying is a must, having a book is not necessary at all (if you go to class).
Amy is hilarious! Her class was extremely easy for me. Go to lectures to get notes and you won't need a book at all. Her power points are easy to copy down and learn from. Just study and you'll be fine.
Biology of Food is an easy A. The hardest Part is the lab and that's elementary level at best. Better show up or you'll fail.
Hard to talk to
Amy is a great Professor. She is very knowledgeable of the material and does a good job lecturing on it. This class offers useful information that you will use in life even if you aren't a Science major. I highly recommend attending class if you want an A or B. She lays out the objectives from each chapter to help you prepare for tests.
Gives TONS of extra credit. Her tests are also super easy, and all you have to do is study the notes you take in class.
Wissman made biology easy and somewhat fun. She attempts jokes and her failing at them make them is funny. If you study and have a little bit of background the exams are easy and she drops the lowest exam grade. She said she didn't do extra credit but ended up giving us 32 points worth of extra credit. I highly recommend her!
Amy knows her stuff and tries to make it as interesting as possible. Attendance isn't required but her tests come straight from the lecture notes. Labs are easy and fun for the most part. Easy A if you study and show up!
Take alot of notes, the study guides she posts on pilot really helps. Lab counts for 70% of your grade, read the lab manual.
Go to class, although it's not mandatory. DO NOT MISS A LAB Class,it's 70% of your grade. Read the material and take lots of notes. She posts study guides on pilot, the exams are based on what is in the study guides. use them and you will pass the exams
As long as you do her online homework, go to lab, and study for exams, you'll do fine! And she doesnt give a final :)
If you do not read you will not get the lectures, you have to read the chapters. She is really nice, but she does not play. She does not give finals, but you will have 4 or 5 test in the semester which are mostly based on lecture. If you want to pass her class, please go to class.
She makes it fun and reinforces the content constantly. Besides lab which is very easy- you'll get out within an hour most times, she only has short online homework and 4 exams- no final! She also drops one exam grade and a couple homework grades. Show up to class though! If you can, take her.
She explains everything really well and her tests are not hard to study for. The labs are also like you're in elementary school, they're that easy. She definitely knows what she's teaching! Definitely would recommend!
I love the way she runs her lectures. Her syllabus is very clear. There's no room for debate for grades. Exams are scantron. I've taken 2 of her classes and loved them both!!!
Amy was by far one of my favorite professors so far. Her syllabus is very clear. You have 4 exams and are able to drop 1. Her exams are exactly off of her notes so it is a must that you attend class. She definitely tried to make class interesting. Especially with her jokes. In lab, you have a quiz every week but they are simple. Great professor :)
I had her for two semesters in two different classes. She enjoys what she's teaching and tries to make the subject interesting. He dry sense of humor is quite comical and she doesn't mind laughing about it. If you show up, read the material, and take notes, her classes are not hard to get through.
Amy is super sweet and is very funny in a old person kinda way. Lectures are good and if you study the material you will do fine on tests. Tests count for a lot of your grade. Hour and 20 min classes get long. So if you have the chance take the 55 mon wed friday ones but overall shes a awesome teacher and i would recommend.
She is amazing, as a freshman I have her and she makes me feel confident that good professors are out threre! Love her !!!
Would not want anyone else to be my professor for this subject!
Really enjoyed this class. She gives a lot of personal examples which got annoying but lectures were very helpful. Exams are straight from lecture notes/ppt. Tells you exactly what you need to know for exams and will review/answer questions at the end of the last lecture before an exam. Used the book to review diseases and definitions when studying
Be sure you come to class, her tests come straight from the notes/powerpoints she covers! She's very sweet!
Amy Wissman is a great professor. She really explains the material and gives you tips to help remember concepts/words. She reviews the previous class material sometimes which helps if you miss a class. Also helps reinforce what you've learned. Exams are not difficult if you show up and study that material. Would definitely recommend!
I personally like her a lot. She is not very understanding when it comes to missing exams unless its surgery, other types of sicknesses make her mad when you skip for them. Know the objectives, don' skip Labs, and do homework and you should get an easy A. drops the lowest exam and the 2 lowest homework assignments. I would recommend taking her clas
Overall Professor Wissman was a wonderful professor. She drops the lowest homework and the lowest Exam score. Homework is due every week after finishing a chapter. Sometimes she speeds through notes, but I took pictures with my phone and copied them down later on. It is important to go to class to copy down all of her straight forward notes! Easy A
super adorable, mom-like personality. Makes not so funny jokes that are nevertheless endearing. Do the homework assignments, show up to class and take notes, and it should be an easy A. Exams are a cakewalk. She really does everything possible to ensure you do well.
Very interesting lectures and keeps you engaged throughout the class. Gives overview for what is going to be included on the exam and is very specific. Makes the topic very interesting and is very open to answering any questions you may have. I LOVED THIS CLASS!!!
Online exams. Not helpful.
Easy A. Just memorize and she gives study guides. Not much to learn.
Unorganized
Woman was PARANOID about cheating Course was all memorization, no real "learning." Four brutal exams make your grade, and attendance Professor had an attitude towards students, not keen on helping or answering questions if inconvenient Recorded lectures and Q&A synchronous class sessions. She's knowledgeable on content, rude towards students
This class was hard ngl. Amy was nice in the "class sessions" which were more like Q&A sessions. Attendance was required for points. There was only 4 exams so you had to do good on those to secure a decent grade. She does give extra credit and tells you exactly what to study for the exam. Overall, I enjoyed the class and the content.
Worst teacher. It's good WSU fired her.
ms amy pissman writes her own positive reviews
This class was a mess. The professor wasn't very helpful, and the material was quite difficult. Thankfully, tools like ChatGPT and unstuck ai were lifesavers for study prep.
