Awesome professor.
Good teacher, Tells you to read the book but she goes over what you should have read in class and has power points. If you read the power points and do the review the tests are easy I've made an A on all of them. She's an easy grader when it comes to tests and offers plenty of extra credit and is willing to work with you. Great teacher.
Fantastic professor. super helpful-just wish she taught more classes. Highly recommended and easy class to boost grade point average.
Professor Hirsch is one of the best professors I have ever had! She mad Humanities really fun and exciting! She makes learning some of the not so interesting topics enjoyable. She always gives jeopardy reviews for exams that help out a lot! Take her for Humanities! :)
A superb professor, intelligent and humorous. I recommend her for anyone. She is the type of professor we hope to have.
The best professor ever! She is very caring, and cares about her students, and wants her students to be successful in her class! Defiantly take her for Humantites 1301!
Easy grader, as long as you turn in the assignments, she gives you the benefit of the doubt. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. If you do bad, it's on you, because she does everything in her power to get you to the grade you want. She keeps you interested. Take her and you own't regret it!
Great professor! Does not grade hard. 2 presentations and 3 exams. Not cumulative. Her reviews are exactly whats on the test. Funny and helpful. Extra credit available too. Do the work and an A+ should be easy! Must take her!
Both classes are extremely interesting but it definitely helps that she knows how to teach the class in a way that it stays that way. Very easy assignments, and tests aren't hard if you glance over the review a couple times.
Hirsch is straight forward. Her schedule is repetitive, so you won't be caught off guard. Syllabus stays on track, and she reviews every class period about what she talked about last time. Super friendly, easy going, nice bod. Probably early 30s. Didn't know what HUMA was until her class. Used textbook in library Don't Buy! Take her
She is a great teacher. Makes this class interesting and very fun! I would definitely retake her if I had to. Easy grader and easy pass.
If you are looking for a very enthusiastic teacher who loves what they do then she is it. She is a great teacher because she goes over the material thoroughly. She also does small reviews before each class to keep everything fresh in your mind. She keeps the syllabus updated and always reminds students of upcoming due dates. Defiantly recommend.
Amy is a wonderful teacher! She makes humanities, a boring subject, FUN! She is pretty and catches her students' interest by her upbeat attitude and positive spirit. Take her and you will not regret it! If you study her review sheet before the test, you will easily make an A! Lots of extra credit options and plays jeopardy as a review before tests!
Great teacher! She makes the class interesting and is very helpful. She gives reviews for her exams and encourages her students to succeed. May seem overwhelming at first but it is not.
Mrs Amy is seriously the best teacher ever!! She freaking amazing and chill. At first her syllabus seems a lot but even then its not a lot of work like other classes and shes an easy grader. Her reviews are very helpful. Totally recommend taking her:)
Amy is a kindhearted person who enjoys teaching the class. She is fun and makes the class easier to understand.
Amy was born to teach, but she does so in a way that isn't too overwhelming or undermining of your educational integrity: it's a gift not many possess. A careful balance of classwork, projects, and three unit tests, all of which she prepares you with fervor and poise. Take this class and you'll see what I mean.
Prof. Hirsch is an excellent lecturer. Class assignments typically involve writing, but her prompts are very clear and she's a fairly easy grader. Tons of bonus credit is achievable in this class, so it's easy for people who are behind on assignments to pass this course. I would take this course again in a heartbeat.
I couldn't agree more that Prof Hirsch is a natural teacher and mentor. I took her Honors course and have nothing but admiration for her and the experience. If you are eager, you will learn a great wealth of valuable knowledge whether you're new or a veteran to the humanities. *for Honors only, primary sources were used in place of the textbook
Professor Hirsch was great! I loved going to her class and I learned a lot about humanities. If you do the homework, show up for class, study for the tests, and do the final project you'll earn a good grade.
More than just a great professor, she's a great person who cares about her students. Not an easy class but definitely not a hard class. Very passionate about a rather uninteresting subject which kept me awake. I have a new appreciation for the Humanities. Took her for Honors and she guided me through the entire project. Would highly recommend!
She is a very inspirational professor, i'd have to say, my experience with her made me appreciate humanities on a whole new level. Don't expect the grade to be handed, work for it, shes generous enough to offer extra credit so take it! Textbook and lectures got me my grade yet it goes beyond than the grade, this class impacted my life completely!!!
Amazing professor! She makes the class interesting by having a charismatic and eccentric attitude! You have to read the book, but she puts the powerpoints on D2L & gives out a review sheet for help. She offers a lot of extra credit too!
Amazing professor! By far, the most dedicated, professional, hands-on, enthusiastic teacher I've ever had the pleasure of taking. She makes discussions interesting and encourages critical thinking. Wonderful feedback on every assignment, always ready to help, clear and concise instructions, timely grading, just exceptional in every way!
Just amazing, one of the best professors, Im honestly sad knowing I probably wont have a professor like her again. She makes the lectures engaging/entertaining. Very passionate and helpful. Now as for the class, there is work easy but still a lot of work(hw). The final was a project for us. Gives tons of extra credit including on tests. Dont slack
You will never get bored in her class, she makes the lectures fun, interactive, and thought provoking. She will make sure you learn by putting you into groups with other students and discussing the material. Not to mention she is hilarious, super witty, and highly interactive with her students. She also gives you great feedback on your work.
Amazing teacher! I didn't know what humanities was until I took her class. Her class has really impacted my life for the better and I'm very thankful for her teaching.
Absolutely amazing professor! She's engaging and makes the class interesting. Make sure you read the textbook. Review sheets are very thorough, and we play review jeopardy the class before every test. The final was a research project that involved a lot of work but was really fun to do. Some pop quizzes and some online. Lots of extra credit options
She is a tough grader and expects perfection from every student. She is a honors teacher so she grades every mistake. Every weekend an essay is due and she does not give enough time to write a research paper that is 5-7 pages. You have to pick one topic for the whole semester and write 3 essays over it.
Professor Hirsch is an good professor. She gives you a study guide prior to every test and the essay questions are the same you do for homework. Her lectures are very entertaining they make the material easier to understand.
She's a very empathetic and intelligent person. I'd certainly be friends with her outside of class. The projects and papers can distract you from your other duties. Writing a paper worthy of being referred to as research takes more time than you think. Most of the work I saw was reaching opinions backed by cherry-picked facts that lacked stats.
I remember seeing her high reviews only for Humanities and thought why not take her for English. Be warned this is not an easy class! There's a total of 5 essays . She grades hard. But she gives extra credit and lets you redo the essay. If you do your work the way she asks you to, you'll be fine.
I took Professor Hirsch for HUMA 1301 and she's the BEST online teacher I've had. Light homework every week (for me), detailed lecture videos, and caring. I wish all of my online teachers were as involved with her students as she was (emailed everyone on Monday with what was due for that week. Responded so quickly!) I'll miss her.
Excellent professor. Even in the face of a race-baiting student she maintained excellent composure. Lectures were accompanied by power point available online. Honestly one of the better/best professors I've had at Lone Star UP. Expect to do standard work if you want something more than a C.
Prof. Hirsch is really nice and funny. Her lectures are awesome and she can kinda be a tough grader. Be ready to read the textbook, do short answers, and the chapter quiz. Her tests are easy if you're good at remembering people, history, and cultural significance of things. I would definitely take her again.
hirsch is awesome and funny, will keep you engaged and interested. the honor's project was a personal problem for me, but was interesting nevertheless. 4 units, 4 unit projects (all very interesting and creative) and you present your last unit project as the final.
She is my first online teacher. She is really good , well-organized, clear. Be ready that you have to read the textbook, then answer her question as a short essay ( she limits it as at lease 3 sentences but of course you need more than that to make it well) + response to your classmates + critical thinking essay which longer and harder.
This professor is really cool. She's funny and all that good stuff but instead of a final exam there's a Final project which is a research basically but you have to create a PowerPoint presentation and present in front of class. Alot of group activities in class. Overall great except a final would be better than a project take a test and thsts it
good teacher, covers the materials and such and is interesting to listen to taken for humanities, we had 6 written reactions each about a page long throughtout the semester, and they would appear again on tests so it was easy to answer, all i did was study jeapordy, art identification, & reaction & I was good to go. didn't need the book personally
if you do not like studying, this is not the prof for you. if you like to put in work for an A on a test then shes your girl. alot of material to study for a 40 question test. 1 final project, pretty doable just do the work and you should be fine.
It was the worst online class I have ever taken. she's a very tough grader and gives tons of homework. Every week we have a quiz, 2 discussions, and1written reaction where all like writing an essay. Quizzes were very hard and time-limited. We don't have a final exam but we have a project of an essay 4-6 page and presentation.
I took her online humanities class online in the summer and it was a good class I enjoyed it. I did a little bit everyday and so far I have an A. She gives good feedback and sometimes its within the hour. I would take any class she teaches again.
online. Very nice with weekly checkups. Quick replies. Quizzes, written reactions, final project with video and essay. Open contents and accepts late work with deduction. Textbook has all quiz answers so if you read, good grade. Rubrics pretty clear so if you follow, easy A. Grades fast.
Professor Hirsch is respectful, thorough, and knowledgeable. She cares about the success of her students and provides very helpful feedback for each paper. Be prepared for in-class group assignments, a big group project, and two presentations. If you put forth a decent amount of effort and follow instructions, you will do well and enjoy this course
Professor Hirsch is one of those professors that makes you love coming to class. She is easily accessible outside of class and always encourages students to be involved with each other and her lectures. At times she may give a lot of work at once, but it is nothing a college student cant handle. I 110% would recommend her to EVERYONE!
10 discussions (medium length), 30 discussion responses (short), 3 written reactions (very short essays), 7 quizzes (quizlet & powerpoints), 3 part final project. I took this class as a minimester. Everything is opened up on day 1 of the course with due dates every week. Easy online course!
I took this Prof for the summer 2019. Yes you are going to read but once you read exactly what her post is you will be fine. You are going to learn about humanities without the torment. She seemed very fair with grading. Meet the deadlines and keep up ,, you should be fine.
Professor Hirsch is absolutely amazing but her group projects are just awful. I loved learning with her, she's helpful and an amazing teacher but if you don't work well with others do NOT take this class. The grade you earn on an assignment is everyone's grade, so if you get a bad group you're basically screwed
I loved it. I took a 16 week english course and although she is very specific with grading, she is an amazing professor. This class is an easy A.
Amazing lectures, makes class fun, always look forward to coming to this class! She's honestly one of the best professors i've ever had. 2 presentations, one in the beginning of the semester and one in the end. Don't let that scare you, she's really helpul and resourceful if you need ideas/help for these presentations.
An amazing experience. Would 10/10 recommend.
Took this course online. I enjoyed the final project and the assignments though she does assign many of them. My only issue with this class was that shes a somewhat tough grader and shes not very understanding when you have an unexpected tragedy occur and turn a couple assignments in late.
I took Prof. Young for Honors Humanities 1301 and 1302 and she is awesome. If you wanna pass the class, you have to listen to the lectures. She transitioned to online really well (if you're reading this for COVID Fall '20) and is always available by email and in her office hours. Don't take if you don't want to learn something haha.
Prof. Young is a good overall teacher, but don't be fooled by the HUMA ratings. She's a super tough grader and everything must be done in a way that she would like. This was the ONLY class where I found myself battling for an A. She gives extra credit, but she grades VERY heavily on both your work and your character. So make a good impression first
Seeing her RMP rating made me think 'wow this will be another easy A' but do NOT be fooled by her ratings. She's an overall cool professor, but she expects the UTMOST quality of her students because she's a Honors Prof with an Masters in Arts. So if your work isn't up to the mark of a Master in English, then dont take this class. You've been warned
Doctor Young isn't a bad person at all, I can understand that her goals are to make students better writers, but her grading was wayyy too difficult, and even with fixing all the papers with the corrections she gave, it seemed as if she didn't want to make my papers worth any more than a B. Im not the best writer, I know, but at least go easy on it
Probably the hardest class I've ever taken ANYWHERE. Doctor Young is an awesome person regardless of her excessively harsh grading. She molded my writing into something that I still get impressed by, and was enthusiastic to help me with my univ admission letters. Barely made it through with an 89.5 but I do recommend to anyone who wants a challenge
I took Prof. Young 1301 & 1302 honors course during my last year. Taking her class really opened my eyes and made me appreciate the world of humanities and has made become more curious. I am very glad that I took both courses because she is an overall great professor, I will highly recommend any honors student to take her but you must work hard!
Professor Young is an amazing educator! She makes herself very accessible to her students and goes above and beyond to ensure you pass her class. Her grading criteria is clearly explained on her syllabus and there are quizzes due weekly and she loves participation with her discussions. You will not be disappointed nor overwhelmed taking this course
Nice lady, horrible professor. This is all personal opinion, but she was way too tough of a grader and had too many assignments per week. Of course she wants you to push to do your best, however, it's almost impossible to get an A on the bigger assignments. Three 4 page papers and one 10 page + presentations. Good luck if you take her.
Professor Young is so intelligent and full of information. I learned a lot from the lectures. This class had more work than my senior level classes though. This course is really designed to get you thinking about why humans are the way they are so get ready for philosophical homework assignments. Do the work EXACTLY as the rubrics states.
Overall a great professor. She is funny and engages the class. She provides outlines for the papers that make the organization super easy. For the first two essays, it's optional to edit & resubmit your final draft for an average grade. She gives thorough feedback on how to improve your writing and her prompts are clear.
Professor Young is a Challenging prof . She has high expectations. She grades awfully harsh and is a rare occurrence if she gives you an A . Goodluck if you take her!
She's SUPER organized and gives clear guidelines, expectations, and feedback. NO EXAMS instead there are 4 projects she calls "remixes." Weekly quizzes over recorded lecture videos are open internet. She cancels class a lot too to work on upcoming due projects which is nice. Reasonably easy grader if you meet given criteria.Overall fun easy A class
The class I took was an 8 week class and it was easy. No test, just quiz's and discussion posts. I don't know what all the other people are talking about by calling her a tough grader because I got 100 on almost all my assigments. She's very nice and responds to emails fast. I would take her again if I had too.
I would not recommend this course! I found it hard for me to actually learn. She doesn't offer lecture notes just lecture videos on YouTube. The videos on YouTube were boring purely because she talked way to much and didn't make content interesting for us to actually want to learn it. Her summer course consist of quizzes, discussion posts, No Tests
Professor Young is EXTREMELY organized, she gives clear grading criteria. At first I was confused on the remixes projects and how the class was structured, but with time I'm sure you will get the grasp of it. The final paper (Honors Project) is structured in three different papers that you will turn in throughout the semester. Be prepared to write!
PLEASE TAKE HER. I would recommend Professor Young! She's incredibly sweet and offers extra credit throughout the semester ( take it even if you don't need it ). She gives clear feedback on all assignments, and has a clear grading criteria! Her class has taught me many things, it's not stressful, and she's very easy going!
Save yourself and don't take this class.
I've taken the 8 weeks course. Textbook wasn't required and class is setup weekly with online lectures and written discussions. Keep up with your weekly schedule and you'll receive an A. The class is very interesting and gave me a much better understanding of ancient civilizations and the periods between 0AD - 1400s. I highly recommend her class.
Took her 8 week class and overall it is a very easy and incredibly manageable course. Graded on 8 discussions and/or 250 word short responses, 3 responses to classmates on discussions, 8 quizzes, and lastly an overall academic performance. Prof Young is VERY organized and responds quickly. Extra credit is available.
She's super organized, kind, and funny! Awesome professor overall. Really enjoyed taking her course this semester. She is somewhat a tough grader, but she does give great feedback, offers extra credit opportunities, and gives you the option to revise your work for a better grade. Attendance matters, expect homework regularly.
Profesor Young was great. Her lectures were very detailed and organized. Easy class and very manageable if you log in often.
She is super kind and always answers questions but the videos you have to watch are pretty long.
TOUGH GRADER!!!! You go to class just to write something and go home to do the assignment, very poor feedback and useless, because she says everything is well but gives you a C, Do not waste your time making extra credit assignment they are worth 0.75, totally worthless.
I loved this class. You have to watch 20-40min long lectures but they're all interesting and engaging if you're into history and cultures, so they aren't really boring, I played them on 2x speed. The class discussions were fun to engage in, and she gave us freedom to be as creative as we wanted. Overall, the class was great, I'd recommend it.
Very tough grader! She gives so many papers to write. Never taking her again.
Assignments require lots of effort for little to nothing points. AI is a huge thing she is trying to beat (I believe it may be effecting her workload and grading). Will provide resources to complete the assignments but will deduct points if the assignment is not to her standards (tough grader).
I wasn't sure what to expect with this class but I learned a lot. Professor was quick replying to emails and gave good feedback. Discussions weren't bad and I even got to be creative with some of them. Would recommend.
Professor Young assigns interesting projects that pushed me to think outside the box and get a better understanding of global culture. I enjoyed being able to recreate historical conversations and not having to take tests. Even though she's a tough grader, I got solid feedback to help me improve my assignments.
Very tough grader. She has way too high of standards for a community college. Avoid this class if you value your sanity.
I loved this class. The lectures were interesting and the workload was reasonable. She has a pretty strict late work policy, so be sure to get work in on time. Overall, a good experience.
Great class, learned a lot of interesting things every lecture. Projects are doable and she will let you be as creative as you want. Nice break from the ridged structure work from other classes.
way too many assignments and an extremely difficult grader. did everything correct and would insist i needed to add more depth to my assignments just to knock off one or two points??? just seemed petty.
A few group projects. Lots of presentations. Homework was light, usually quizzes and such, but the final project is a great big arts and crafts kinda creation thing. Fun! If you show even a little bit of drive or writing skills you will excel in this class and adore Young's relaxed, easygoing nature!
TAKE HER!! It was a fun course, and she gave great feedback on all my papers. Rather than tests, you have projects called "remixes," but they're fun and simple. Honors-wise, she really keeps you on track and motivates you. She really wants you to find deeper meanings in works. Be sure to have good time management!! Other than that, amazing!
