This is a real college course, no hand holding. Instructor provides plenty of extra help after class, but you have to seek help not wait for it to spawn in your lap. This course is designed to go slower than the next level of BIO, but also made to weed out students who are not prepared to advance along the medical track.

Straight-forward, she is nice and willing to help. She does go a bit fast on her lectures, but gives the main points and information you need. DEFINITELY read the book chapters if you want to truly understand the info and get good grades on her tests. Not a hard course, just be dedicated. Read textbook, review powerpoint slides and you're good.

I thought her lectures were great, and very energetic. Exams are tough, but just follow the slides for most of the material. Very Very helpful during office hours, that has saved me so far.

Amy was an awesome teacher for bio 189. She explains all the material very well. She is passionate about this subject and that helps to bring the lectures alive. If you study her slides you will do well. I never used the textbook. She has review sessions before every test which are helpful. Class was never cancelled & it goes for whole period.

Tough teacher. She is very personable, however her exams were very tough. I felt she used trick questions and she never gave helpful study guides. I passed, but barely and I studied my butt off. I feel she is brilliant but she has a hard time teaching the material.

Professor Amy is awesome. I had her for my bio 189 lab and she's always there for you when you really need help. Attendance is mandatory right here unless you want to make up for it and take another lab class. Easy quizzes and very legit when she lectures about the topic or stuff we are doing for the day.

Amy was an awesome professor. She sincerely cares that each student has a strong understanding of the material, always available to help her students during office hours. She explains things in a way that helps you understand, she treats her students with respect and makes her job look easy. I also had her for lab, fantastic there as well!

I took Amy for my 189 lab and she made each experiment easy to understand and was willing to help. She gave a quiz at the beginning of each class that was straight from the lab manual. She gave short lectures and gave us the full amount of time to complete each lab. Overall, she was very nice and made class fun and was always willing to help.

This was y second attempt at Biol189 and passed with a solid B. I didn't study much but definitely attended lecture and brough the printable study guides to take notes on during lecture. Do your vocabulary, take notes, study and you'll do just fine. It's a tough subject! Sleep and breakfast if AM class is essential to pay attention during lecture.

Amy is a wonderful teacher! She does an amazing job at explaining things & giving tips to help students remember tough parts. Everything you need to know she goes over in Lec. Her Lab is super laid back, yet informative. She's always willing to go the extra mile to help, as long as you ask! If you study what she lecs on, you can def get an A or B.

I didn't think her quizzes or exams were that hard. They mostly followed the lecture notes. Wasted time in the beginning using the text, not many questions came from this.

The secret to getting an A in this class is making all her lectures. I learned after the first exam that most of her exam questions come from her lectures. Plus you get free iClicker points which helped me in the end. Also recording her lectures helped.

Professor Amy is really nice. She goes through the material really quick, so you have to keep up with studying. She does not give homework at all, and I did not open the book once. She gives you the lectures' power points, so you have to study from there. Study everything, even the small letters, because it will be on the Exam.

Amy was a great professor. I enjoyed her class. In order to pass you need to attend all lectures, take notes, and record the lecture. She provides PP the day before lecture so you can print it out and go over the PP. It helps out a lot. In every PP there is a review guide if you can answer those questions then you will do great! Favorite Professor I've had! Prof Ziemba was engaging and funny. She broke down the subject matter so you could understand it. She posts her power points for you to print and tests all come from the matter discussed in class. She was super approachable and really wants her students to succeed. I WISH she taught more classes I needed for my major!

She's a compelling lecturer. It's not easy material, but she makes it clear and accessible. You definitely do not need the book. Attendance is not taken, but you're going to drown if you don't go to class consistently. Her class is worth taking.

Amy is a very energetic and fun professor. This is a tough class with lots of material we cover every day, but she made it fun. It was a bit much for me having a full time job too, but I loved her class. She was also very helpful in office hours. Her lecture handouts are very helpful, I didn't get those from my first instructor.

Lab was really fun with her! She made it interesting and was really nice. She helped me alot. I had a ton of health issues and she was extremely accommodating. The advice she gave on the research paper was solid. As long as you study the labs, you'll do fine. I loved her so much and would highly recommend. Not a tough grader at all. :)

I loved Amy! Definitely the best biology/science professor I've ever had. She made the course easier and less stressful. The only grades are on quizzes & tests and they're all based on her lectures, you won't need the book much, or even at all. She is a great professor, very helpful and nice. Amy is very passionate about Biology and it shows in her lectures. Uses PP, iclicker (huge plus!), drops lowest quiz & exam, lets you record lectures. I thoroughly enjoyed this class and learned so much. She really broke everything down in lecture so that we could understand the material. You need to study though! SI group helps sooo much too.

Prof. Ziemba has got to be THE BEST Bio professor I've taken here at CSN! Bio is definitely not an easy class, but not impossible to pass. I recommend printing out and recording her lectures and listening to them at your own time while filling out info that you missed in lecture. Go to SI Sessions, it helps big time. overall she's great i love her

Amazing teacher who really knows what she's talking about. She is accessible outside of class and answers any questions you may have. Didn't use the book at all in class but it could have really helped with studying for exams. Lets you record lectures and basically tells you everything you need to know for quizzes and exams.

Amy is an great professor. She is upbeat, motivates you and actually cares about your grade. When she lectures, she's really into it, which is great for visual learners. Amy does have power points which you get a copy of before every lecture. However, you get A LOT from her actual lecture so if you just rely on that alone, you may have trouble.

One of the best professors I have had. biology 189 is a tough class and she makes the lectures easy to understand by following the powerpoints she uploads on Canvas. She doesn't have sneaky trick questions on her exams but more to test your understanding of the lectures. I suggest going to her office hours for help if needed.

I think it is funny a few students said she was hard. This class is hard period, and she was way easier than my first 189 professor, when I got an F no matter how hard I studied. At least her tests covered the same things on her lectures.

I had her during the COVID19. The first half in person was great, fun labs, quizzes covered her lectures and the lab. Then the second half was online. You had to watch videos which didn't explain things as well as she did. And the quizzes were much more hard, they were written by someone else (the coordinator). Made me miss Professor Z!!

This is my first Bio class ever! I'm so glad I took Prof Z. Yes, it was difficult but if you really work hard for it you will succeed. Her lectures were fun but it's a lot (tip: increase lecture speed and do not move on unless you understand it) There will be 5 hw, 5 exam, 1 final. Email her, she replies fast because she truly wants to help you.

This lab class was super simple. The labs were done through Labster, and then every week we would take a short quiz on the lab. What mattered the most was the paper which was worth around 65 points. The paper wasn't too hard if you choose a topic you enjoy, and the professor gave good feedback. She responds to emails fast and seems to care.

Given that classes were still online for this semester, any lab you take was going to provide a self motivated experience to be successful. Grading criteria was clear. Research paper, difficult but if you actually spend time, youll be successful. If other students spent as much time studying as they did complaining, they probably wouldve passed.

She is amazing, she makes lecture PowerPoint sheets for you to follow along with while she is giving her lectures, and it helps a lot. She is always available if you need extra help. 10/10 would recommend her for your first BIO class

Bio189 is tough, especially when you have little or no knowledge of science. Nevertheless, Prof Z has a way to make biology fun and easy to comprehend, and her class is easy if you attend class more often, study her lecture notes and answer questions from the study guides. The exams are tricky, but its always based on the lecture notes.

Professor Ziemba is amazing! Her lectures are never dull, even when the topic drags on. There are quite a bit of homework assignments, but you have enough time to complete them and they are easy. You need to study and put in work- and I definitely recommend attending all the lectures. Lab is also a blast with Ziemba- she makes it easy to understand

Only thing she puts in the gradebook are the exams, the homework and the iclickers. I recommend printing out the lectures and taking notes on the paper. She is very kind and her lectures are interesting and easy to understand. You must read the book though to get a higher grade than a C. I didn't read and I still passed the class with a C lol.

The class is alot of material in and of itself, and it takes effort, but as long as you put in the work you will pass. This is a tough class, but Professor Ziemba is an amazing teacher who recognizes what the tough topics are and spends her own time breaking it down so that it is easier to digest and even comes up with cute phrases in lecture to help remember certain terms or concepts which may be confusing. Definitely take her!

iClicker participation is important. Her lectures are good and helpful. Biology is hard itself but she explains things fairly well for the MOST part. Sometimes she doesn't break down difficult material. She also tends to speed through the slides. Overall good though!

I'm not sure if all 190L is like this but there aren't due dates posted on canvas and sometimes it can confuse when specific assignments are due. Overall a chill professor, weekly quizzes are a thing and can affect your grade heavily.

Prof. Ziemba is a great teacher. She gives clear instructions and tries her best to explain the material. She literally gives you the tools to help you pass this class, like how much a person should be studying for and great study tools like the vocab and study guide at the end of her lecture notes. The lecture is heavy, a lot to study for.

Prof Z is easy as long as you attend her classes and study her hand outs. She cares about her students. You have to study or you will not pass. You also do need an iclicker for this class. It is how she takes attendance and you are asked daily to answer questions for a grade on this device. Study her slides and read the book, you will make an A

5 exams + 1 Final exam (60 Questions each, but wasn't bad) homework and DMS before every exam (was helpful). Used and posted PowerPoints to take notes on during lecture (puts empty spaces to fill in). Can't take pics but can record the lectures. Had accommodations which she was helpful and accepting of them. Very nice professor. Go to Si, it helps!

As long as you are studying and paying attention in class it is super straight forward , her test questions are really straight forward is you studied and learned the material , it all comes off the powerpoint and would definitely take her again!

I had Amy for lab and she was great!! her quizzes arent hard. just read the lab handout about twice a day for the week and you'll be fine for her exams ! The homeworks help boost your score! The labs are easy to understand. She does have alot of energy, and she doesnt mind answering questions! overall i had fun having her for lab.

Honestly I didn't get a higher grade because I didn't study or do all the homework but I still passed sooo...that says a lot about how easy she makes this class. Just print the notes before hand so you can follow her lecture because she does go FAST and bring your iClicker for the extra points and you will be fine! DONT miss even a single class!

Do not take any other professor besides Amy Ziemba, I cannot stress this enough! She is amazing! She is so passionate about biology— you can tell from her lectures. Biology is a hard subject in general and a very rigorous course but the way she teaches made it feasible. Would definitely take her again! :)

Provides lecture handouts before every lecture (think incomplete outlines that are missing important info/vocab). Can talk very fast, so record lectures and go back to them because a lot of info can be missed. Recommend going to SI, and learning how to study ASAP before classes even begin or by 1st module exam. BIOL courses are memorization-heavy.
