She spends a lot of time discussing and you can tell she really loves her subject. Two, one page papers: not bad, a little hard on the grading. The tests are challanging, but fair. Not a free ride, but really intresting.

First impression: OH NO I'm back in High School- she's PSYCHO about lateness. But then it got smoother. The readings weren't massively harsh- just give your opinions about them in class the next and you'll be completly fine. Remember, it's an English class, so there's a paper due (8 paged research)

She is an excellent proffessor. It makes her blood boil when you're late. Just complete the readings that she assigns, the next day raise your hand about 4 times and be prepared to basically state your opinion on what you read. In other words easy.

A really nice woman. Her tests are easy but she is a hard grader for the papers (2 one page papers per semster). She makes class fun just keep up with the reading. Expect a pop quiz in the first month of class but no more after that.

I have no idea what this previous rating about a computers class means. Prof. Acosta is a literature professor, and she is the nicest person in the world. Her class is great, and she is always ready to listen and help. I would take her class again.

The Best English teacher i've had in a while! She's very nice and lets us choose the topics for our paper and she designs the class tjat way we spend almost the entire semester on the 9 page paper.dont be late because she hates it.Also, try to participate as much as you can so that she can push your grade up half a grade at the end of the semester.

She's a good professor. Eager to help and open to ideas. I recomend her. Two single page papers, midterm and final - not to hard. I really didn't do much reading for the class but found the discussions concerning them pretty interesting.

Terrible terrible class, if you take her u will regret it. She has favorites and she is totally unfair. Papers are 1 page, which in itself is ludicrous, and she grades very harshly. Nevermind that the "extra credit" is not doable. Do not take her, trust me.

Her paper's range from 2 to 6 pages, due to new regs she changed her 1 page papers. Her exams are straight foward from the text, pay close attention to the reading and in class discussions. She tries to help you as much as possible even if she is a tough grader on papers and tests. She gives free points for attendence and participation. Good proff.

She is nice but when she gives the paper it isn't always clear what she is asking for. I had a hard time choosing my topic and the thesis of my paper. Also pick really good sources. Oh yeah she gives a final which isn't that hard

Very nice lady, just do the readings and be very involved with discussions - she loves that. Paper must be very good to get an A, therefore pick good sources and write your thesis way before so she can fix it. Then the class will be no problem, i assure you.

I really liked her! Okay 18th century English is a little boring but she is so cute with her little accent that I liked listening to her. You had to bring the textbook every class & she always took attendance-but the text is soft so it wasn't bad. I got As & Bs on the papers & if you read the plays you can get an A on the midterm/final. I recommen

shes very nice but very narrow in her thinking and assignments. it must be her way and if you dont do it her way, she will make you do it her way or give you a bad grade. final was very easy, i really dont have a recommendation on this class, its your call.

Don't bother to take her. She is a very hard teacher. My sister wrote a paper for herself at QC and got an A. I handed in the same paper for the same class at BC and got a C on the research paper. When she went over our papers in class she lowered my grade to a C- because she reread it and didnt like it. BWT the requirements were the same!

She is a very nice and helpful teacher. You have to participate in class discussions, which are usually very interesting. While the final paper may be somewhat difficut, she gives you the questions and answers to the final beforehand so that everyone can boost their grade. She also helps everyone pick and analyze their final paper topics.

She is pretty much useless. i only rcommend if you are strong at writing research papers already because she wont explain how in class. The class is weird because there is zero strucutre, it doesnt take 1.5 hrs to discuss a 2 page short story!

She is extremly picky and an unfair grader. If you do exactly what she wants she will still find a way to pick away at your work. Another thing she is not so clear in the assignment and has a slight tendency to change what she says.

ok, heres the deal. I pretty much agree with whats been said already. but here is a warning!!the grade on your paper is the final grade you will get in the class. She makes you think that atten/partic and small papers(which she didnt mark) count but they dont at all. Also its funny, she gets very dfensive when asked about her weird accent

Overall the class is not that bad except she talks for most of the class... She gives wayyyy too many books to read which she expects you to read in one week, which is like 400 pages. She gives papers which are not clear at all. She is an extremly unfair grader and she will accuse you of things that are untrue like cheating. Do not take her class

I had an awesome experience in her 18th Century Lit class.I didn't find her to be quirky as people described in other ratings.At the start of the semester,she made a big deal of tardiness but that's most professors.The class was fun.I didn't enjoy all of the plays but most were entertaining.Not too many written assignments. She'll quiz you. Read.

Acosta is a person who loves her job, that being said- to appeal to her personally you must show a genuine interest in her class. Like all English professors, Acosta has a unique philosophy in essay writing and will bash a piece declared perfect by previous teacher. Be sure to do all assignments and read required texts, she quizzes often!

This teacher most certainly loves her job but her teaching style is not the best. She prefers to lead discussion on non important topics. She spends too much time on them and her assignments are poorly explain. Her grading style is unpredictable and it's not easy to understand what she wants for her requirements. I advise not taking her class

She not very clear when explaining the writing assignments. She a harder grader then other english professors because she expect a lot more from you. I only suggest this class if you are already a good writer, other than that don't take this class. There are other professors for english especially if you are not a good writer.

She's not a very good professor. She doesn't explain what she wants in her essays and then when you write the essay, she marks the whole thing wrong. She picks favorites, she's annoying and she's very inconsiderate. She's very unfair with her grading and she pretends she's nice but she's not. She also has issues with sound in her classroom.

Stay away! If you have some depth in your writing and are not a robot, stay away. She is good for those who can kill heir own ideologies and make a mini her. Has favorites all the time, by the end of the semester it will start getting under your skin.

She was a really nice professor even though 18th century literature and the novels she chose were kind of boring. I slcaked off unfoortunaty, but because I did good on the midterm she made a deal with me, that if i got an a on the final, she would give me the least grade I needed to pass. I worked hard on the final and she kept her promise.

Very nice, and there's not too much strenuous work (even in honors), but she assigns a bunch of unnecessary textbook work. Also, she's a very harsh grader, which is her biggest drawback.

TOOO MUCH READING FOR A CORE CLASS. Plus the books are horrendous and painfully long. She grades as If you should be majoring in English, but the reality of this being a core class has not come to her attention. DONT DO IT.

I took her for CORC 3102 we read 7 different books so be prepared to read. I thought I was going to hate the class but she is so passionate about the readings that it makes you want to know what excites her. There are two test and two papers you have to know characters names, books titles, and what is happening in the text, so know the material

Extremely boring class. She talks nonstop and asks for your opinion, however if your opinion doesn't match hers, she will say it is wrong. A lot of hw, classwork, essays, and reading. Not the toughest grader but extremely irritating and slow. Avoid if possible. She makes you buy an extremely expensive textbook just because she "wrote" it.

Lots of reading,She goes about her lectures like this: "How are you liking it?" "What have you noticed?" and basically talking about different aspects of the book. Not too much analyzing or writing. She is INCONSISTANT when it comes to the format of her papers, so watch out. If you don't talk you don't pass, also she takes forever to email you back

Discussion-based class, lots of readings because CompLit, no /texbook/ because you cover different novels and plays, so lots of individual books. She gives pop quizzes based on the readings, but they're fair and only check if you actually did the reading. Hard essays with specific topics, but fair grading. would take again

Prof. Acosta is very passionate about her subjects and the class is interesting and dynamic. Open to questions and opinions, very sweet, and good book selection. Biggest pet peeve is she chooses material for exam that wasn't discussed in class. Tough grader - only 2 essays, but you have to work if want an A.

Class discussions are very engaging and she is very nice as a person. But she is a very harsh grader. Even if you are the best essay writer she won't give you higher than a B-. Takes points off for the smallest things (I got five points off for having a creative title) She loves giving pop quizzes about the numerous books she assigns so watch out.

This is not an easy class i would say, a lot of work thats involved. Many essays will be assigned. Teacher is nice and annoying at the same time. Just manage a C for essays and do decent on the finals and you will get a B-. Not that hard of a class but you can pass.

Absolute favorite professor of all time and one of the best classes I've ever taken, but I totally get why she's polarizing. You have to be prepared to read a lot (A LOT) and participate even more than that. Her discussions are amazing, she's pretty much always free to talk at office hours, which you should definitely take advantage of. TOUGH/Fair.

Don't take this professor. She doesn't teach and gives pop quizzes. I, for one, am not very fond when it comes to that sort of micromanagement. Her "lectures" are mere discussions of the book. There are two in class essays, a mid term, and a final.

Theres 4 major things she grades by: 2 tests & 2 in class essays. There are pop quizzes but if you are reading and keeping up those are easy A. Lectures were really fun but also depends if your class has people willing to participate. The first few books are harder to read but she knows this and thats why the lectures are helpful and interesting.

This professor is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subjects that she teaches. The excitement she emits is infectious. I have taken her for ENGL 3187 and ENGL 3182 and even though they were challenging (lots of reading, pop quizzes, in class essay exams), I appreciate how they have allowed me to improve as a student and person.

She doesn't teach. We would go into class and start talking about the book and then the lecture would turn into a conversation that wasn't about the book at all. She's nice and the class isn't hard to pass, but she is extremely annoying and treats her students like children. She isn't open to any feedback and her exams /quizzes are dumb.

Meh. The class is just discussions of what we read, which I wasnt very thrilled with but she makes it interesting and doesnt force participation (but it is worth 10% of your grade). The rest is 2 in-class essays, a midterm, a final, attendance, and average of quiz grades. The quizzes are unannounced and can get specific with answers. Just read.

She's a nice person, but super strict grader. Pop quiz heavy, and the quizzes are one question each and way too specific, so even if you read the material you could fail. She likes participation. She doesn't really teach the material per se, and isn't clear about what she wants on assignments. My whole class struggled with her essays. Try to avoid.
