alright, so i did really bad on her first exam, but that was because i didn't study. she's nice, but is more focused on being a good teacher than pounding in those need-to-know facts. it's her first year, i'll cut her some slack. i think after she's been here a while, she'll get better. weekly webass. like every other chem teacher.
First year teaching so little shaky at first did not know what she was doing but at the end i started to pick up on what i need to know

does a good job of teaching. for a general chem class she does a good job.
Does not teach, reads off powerpoints and oh boy does it throw her off if the tvs are not work, she really has to teach. OMG! Once u get the hang of her tests, she changes it up and puts the most difficult questions on there, not really willing to help you out.
Pretty good chemistry teacher. Young. She expects you to know basic High School Chem. so if you dont take 100. Not too many webassigns. Tests require 8-10 hours of studying. Exam was aweful, brought me down a whole letter grade !
Ison's ok. She doesn't appear to be the brightest bulb in the pack, but she's nice and knows her chemistry. Her tests aren't that hard - except the last one. I highly recommend actually studying for that one even if you didn't study for the others and did fine. Class can be rather boring, but it's not that bad.
i wasnt a huge fan. shes very..intense? she gets upset about the DUMBEST things and throws meaningless fits. the tests werent HORRIBLE, but if you didnt do well in high school chem it will be A LOT harder for you.
Excellent intro chem instructor. Highly recommend. Always willing to help, even beyond posted office hours. Exams were difficult and required studying and text reading prior to the corresponding lecture. Weekly webassign.
She's an awesome teacher. Her tests are difficult but if you really pay attention, go to SI sessions, and study you'll do fine. She is extremely helpful and available even beyond office hours. She expects you to work hard but it pays off because you learn a lot.
I hate chemistry with a fiery passion, but she made it somewhat easier. I found it more... comprehensive to take notes from the text if you're not getting the lectures. The WebAssigns are really easy but it doesn't count for much, unfortunately.
She was a good teacher. She seemed a little hit or miss though, a lot of people in class had a really hard time.
she is nice and helpful.the tests are confusing but with lots and lots of studying you will be ok
Hard tests! Does not curve AT ALL!! Boring lecture! I took chem and AP chem and had no problem, Webassign is useless and does not prepare you for the exam.
I recommend Dr. Ison if you are not planning on taking another Chemistry course. She did not cover as much material as the other teachers, but the material she did cover was covered well. Also--do all the extra credit: it raised my grade 3 points! The tests and quizzes aren't bad if you study and go to lecture. Attendance helps with extra credit.
She was a pretty good teacher. The tests were hard but I passed with a B+ and only opened the textbook once or twice. Also, class always started on time, never ended early, and was never canceled.
OK teacher. She teaches the class in a way that isn't fun, or interesting, but will still keep you awake. Her tests were relatively hard. She usually has a round-a-bout confusing way of explaining things
Very hard class on general, ison makes it worse. Not for me at all. Goes through notes really fast and says "i've already passed this class, you all need to catch up" Im learning, but struggling
Dr. Ison was a good teacher. Her tests were very difficult though. Study hard.
I really enjoyed the class...she is a good teacher and keeps things pretty interesting...not too hard, though the class itself is notoriously difficult, but she makes things understandable and makes things make sense.
Really nice, easy to understand. Tests are extremely hard, but she helps you out at the end.
GREAT teacher she explains the material well. The clicker questions can help your grade out if you get them right. Will extend hw deadlines if she is behind in the material. A lot of interaction with the class. Go to her office hrs if you need extra help or go to the SI sessions.
Ison explains things well and is a good teacher. However, this class is hard in the first place and her very difficult test don't make it easier. If you are a poor test taker, get out of this class. Attendance isn't mandatory but she has clicker questions that are graded. Not many webassigns. Moves through material quickly.
She is an Ok teacher, but the class is hard anyway so you have to study and go to the class to get a decent grade. She teaches the basic material, but her test are on applying it. It's also annoying when she can see the class is not getting something she says something along the lines of "you will get it", gives you a smirk and turns to the board.
Entertaining
Dr. Ison is a very clear and good teacher. However, her tests are EXTREMELY hard. Our class average was normally a failing 60 each test. Use the resources she tells you to use (Chapter Worksheets, Practice Problems, Reviewing Webassigns, etc...) You must study a lot to do well in her class.
she is a very good teacher and I recomend that you have here.
I didn't have a great experience in Dr. Ison's class. People would suggest other, easier methods to of learning certain topics and she would dismiss them saying, "I've never heard of doing it like that" and go about her more difficult explanation. Also she messed up a lot when doing examples on the board, which confused me. And the tests were HARD!
she's a good teacher
She is a VERY good professor. As long as you know the material well, you will be fine. She is very reasonable and will help you out as much as she can. By far the favorite teacher I have ever had. I would DEFINITELY recommend her... but remember to work hard!
I have taken a lot of science classes with a wide range of types of professors. Dr. Ison is an excellent lecturer and teacher. Her tests and grading are very fair. Her class is challenging only if you don't keep up with the material. Don't skip class!
Excellent prof. She will make you get involved in herself and her subject!
Her exams are difficult and drink an energy drink before coming to class or you will fall asleep.
Chem 101 is fast paced and hard no matter who teaches it. Ison takes time to go over all the hard concepts, but her class still requires a lot of time and work outside of lecture.
Good teacher, fairly hard test tests but reasonable. I would recommend her. Im an above average student but not top of the class usually. I received a B- in CH 101.
Very fair teacher. She teaches at a great pace that is good for everyone. Only complaint is that she never responds to her e-mails.
She is good to take if you are familiar with the material prior to taking the course. If you are unfamiliar with the topics, or never had a Chem class before then you will be at a disadvantage. She teaches towards the students that already have a familiarity with Chem. Her class isn't aimed for those learning Chem for the first time.
She's great for people not very interested in Chem (like me)because she teachers from the basics. She moves a little fast sometimes, but you can easily catch up with a few problems outside of class.
Dr. Ison is a good teacher, she reviews a lot of basic chemistry that most other chem 101 teachers skip over. She is also a super nice person outside of class,if you have questions about chemistry or just life in general she'll help you out,she really cares about her students.CH101 is hard but if you read the text book and go to class you'll be fine.
She is an awesome professor. Her presentations are extremely helpful. If you pay enough attention in her class, take notes, and devote a considerably high amount of time for study, you are bound to get an A in her class.
Dr. Ison expects every student in her class to already have an understanding of the material covered in this course. Therefore, unless you have taken AP chemistry in high school or have an exceptional knowledge of chemistry, you will not do well in her class. She refuses to help anyone and gives no curves or help whatsoever.
Like others said, do not take her if you aren't already comfortable with chem. Her review sheets/recitations are nothing like her exams. The reviews/recitations are extremely basic, and don't prepare you that well for exams. The ppl saying her class is fine are those that already took chem in HS and did well in it. ATTEND SI sessions!
Teaching is straight forward and to the point. You should have a general idea of what chemistry is coming into the course. CH 101 is tough no matter what, and she teaches it better than most. The material is minimal and easy to comprehend. The work load isn't bad. If you don't understand her, change your major. I deeply recommend this professor.
I strongly recommend taking her class; everything comes straight from her powerpoints and she gives plenty of practice problems from webassign, in class problems, recitation and worksheets she puts up online. As long as you keep up with the work load you should do fine in her class.
I liked her, she was nice, and did her job well. She explained things, was always prepared and was always willing to help. She tells you what you need to do to do well in the class and gives you opportunities to bring up your grade just in case you have a "slip" on a test (final replacement). Not sure about others, but I liked her.
Professor Ison is a fantastic teacher! She makes sure that you understand the material and is always willing to work with students on any thing they need help with. She is usually very prompt on returning emails and what not, and she is just a great person! Highly recommended if Chem isn't your strong subject.
She does a lot of examples that really help you understand the material. She can go kind of slow sometimes, but she explains everything very well. Her tests are pretty straight forward and if you just go over the sapling homework and her suggested end of chapter problems and the examples in class you will do great!! GREAT teacher
Tries to relay the topics well but just is not effective. This class was pretty easy only because it was prep chem but I couldn't even imagine having her for CH 101, she goes so fast...
Not clear in explanations, high expectations of prior knowledge, tests were incomprehensibly difficult, not helpful out of class, studied more than ever and ended up with a D+, no curves, take the course with anyone else!
The best! She's a good teacher but you need to read and study a lot for a good grade.
Great professor. She explained things very well and made chemistry not awful. Pretty easy class if you pay attention.
Choose any professor besides her.
Definition of "weed out." Lectures are rapid fire. Tests are unrelated to lectures. If you study a lot you still will miss questions because all material is not discussed. You are responsible for teaching yourself. Not recommended unless you took AP chem in high school.
I took CH 111 and 101 with her, and she was great both times. She does expect that you will put in quite a bit of time (studying/WA) but it's all worthwhile. She works out problems in class so you can see what to do, and then lets you work one on your own to ensure you understand. Will always answer questions, and is clear about material on tests.
Here's the thing, you need to have had some background in chem before 101, if not, take that other class before. If you master that material and go into Ison's class, there really should be no reason why you can't make an A or B assuming you put the work into the class. She is nice, kind, and respectful, in my opinion-good prof for responsible ppl.
Took her class over the summer. She was a good teacher but her tests were tough. Do not miss a single day or it will cost you.
Very enrgetic and willing to help.
Just took Dr. Ison for SSI. Highly recommend. Her tests are super fair and easy if you do and understand the in-class problems and practice problems from the textbook. Super nice and helpful and only tests on materials covered in class. Exams are straightforward.
She is absolutely amazing. She is very clear and very helpful if you asked her a question. She always make it simple and she would repeat anything that you did not understand. I really loved her class and she is an outstanding professor. She is always energetic I have never seen her tired at all. All you got to do is to focus and study.
Took her in Summer ! very clear and organized ! Highly recommended !
Dr. Ison gives countless examples in class on how to do what she will quiz and test you on. Even if you doze off for a few minutes, she will probably be doing another example of the same type of problem when you wake up. Though this can be a little boring and make the class seem long, it will really help your grade.
Prof. Ison is an amazing instructor. She is very knowledgeable in chemistry and is very friendly. She is also funny, which makes her classes more fun. She explains everything very clearly and solves many examples in the lesson to ensure that everyone aces that certain topic. She marks fairly and her examstests are easy.
Ana Ison is nice and kinda quirky. Is the only CH 111 professor, but she is not bad! The class is pretty easy in general
I loved Dr. Ison's class. Her lectures were super clear and her tests followed what she actually taught rather than being random. Make sure you do the problems in the book. They are very helpful and are similar to what you can expect on the exams.
Dr. Ison is an amazing professor! The webassign in the class was pretty difficult, but the questions were pretty similar to the test questions. As long as you do the assigned webassign and the end of chapter exercises you will do fine on the test.
She's very passionate about what she does, but she requires you to understand what your doing and to be able to show it and apply it.
not a lot of homework.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Expects you to have a lot of prior knowledge from AP Chem (yeah, even if you didn't take it). Expects you to read the entire chapter for every topic but will not tell you to do so. Only CH 101 professor that doesn't give curves and tests are unimaginably harder than homework and even the homework was hard
Ison was awesome! She's super funny and energetic and does a great job of teaching the material in class. I have yet to read for a single chapter and had almost no chemistry back ground. If you take time to really understand the concepts, do the web assigns and book work you'll be fine! Attendance was not required but you need to be there.
Dr. Ison is very knowledgeable about chemistry and is very good at simplifying difficult material. Attendance is not mandatory but you will be lost if you miss a class. Tests are in a short time period, but if you are good at taking tests quickly you will be fine.
She's a good professor who does example problems in class and explains them well. Good at explaining material, and her tests aren't hard. She also gives extra credit. Great teacher overall.
Presented the material in a very understandable way. Added humor to her lectures which made them more enjoyable. The tests are multiple choice but you really need to know the material to do well. I took chemistry in high school and was totally confused and hated it. I took Ison's class this semester and it made so much more sense.
Ison is a pretty good professor but I had a heck of a time getting a good grade in her class. I went to class everyday and took notes but that wasn't enough. Probably a good idea to read the book prior to lecture and/or take notes on the slideshow beforehand.
Dr. Ana Ison is a great professor. She makes the material easy and makes some jokes throughout the lecture. Her tests are multiple choice, and they're nothing different than what you learn in class. If I had a chance to take her again I would.
I really enjoyed the lectures, Ana is very easy going. She answers even the dumbest questions, and her tests are fair but take some studying.
Dr. Ison is awesome. She's a very good teacher and makes things super easy to understand. Tests are fine if you study for them. Dr. Ison gives plenty of time to complete homework and she is extremely helpful.
Chemistry is not my strongest subject which is why I took CH111. Her lectures could be slow at time, but she was always willing to answer questions. She made the material understandable for a lower level. I feel more confident going into CH101 after taking her class.
I am not a chemistry person, but with her I was able to pull of an A. And it was not because it was easy, because it wasn't, but she made things clear and her notes were a big help with the homework and with test prep. Also, a good lecturer and a likable person. Her exam prep was very helpful, especially her office hours.
Dr. Ison is an awesome prof. She is very clear on what she expects and makes chemistry interesting. I took her in a 5 week summer session, which was intense, but manageable. If you take notes, you will be fine! Problems from test are similar to notes.
Ison is kind and charismatic. You won't fall asleep in her lectures. She offers good support and opportunity to ask questions in and out of lecture. She communicates about deadlines, changes, and what is expected. I took her course over the summer, and found it manageable despite the accelerated curriculum. Homework is frequent, but very helpful.
Dr. Ison is a great professor. I took her course over the summer and she did a great job cramming all the material into such a short course.
Extremely tough grader when it comes to quizzes and exams. Her tests are comprised of the top, most missed questions by students and involve the most common mistake answers for the answer choices. Don't expect anything more than a mediocre grade at best if you are ready to dedicate most of your time to this course.
Her tests can be difficult at times, but overall, I'd say she's a pretty good professor. Explains concepts in a pretty easy to follow and succinct manner.
Dr. Ison was great teaching CH111. She pretty much lays it out to you in the beginning that it is up to you to do well in the course. Attendance and homework from the textbook is not required. This course is a good stepping stone for future chemistry courses. Highly recommend Dr. Ison if you need a refresher for chemistry.
Lectures were so boring and she has an attitude all the time. Not a very hard class tho.
I really enjoyed Dr. Ison for CH111. She was accessible after class. She is willing to go over material again if you need it. I didn't think the tests were super hard but study. It can be a fair amount of work but put in the time and it's fine. If you don't feel like you have a great foundation for CH 101 then I highly recommend this course w/ her
Dr. Ison was THE BEST professor ever! I hated chemistry in high school and didn't understand it at all. But she really made everything so much clearer. You definitely have to work for your grade--I got an A, even with failing the first test, by doing everything she said (practice problems, etc.) Overall, I feel much more confident about CH101.
Dr. Ison is a rather decent chemistry teacher. She expects you to come in with a fairly decent chemistry background as she moves rather fast during the class. Very accessible outside of class and little assigned homework, so you must practice often. Failed the first test and still came out with a B+, one point from an A. DO good on HW and quiz.
Loved this lady! Awesome prep-chew class! I went into my CH101 class feeling so secure and good and have done much better than those who did not take CH111. Dr Ison is very knowledgable but knows how to dumb it down to the right level. Ask her questions and get to know her - she's pretty cool.
She is one of the nicest teachers I have had. She is very caring and I love her to bits. But if you are in Ch111 because you are bad at chem... yeah you need to be at every class or you will be behind.
I didn't have chemistry in High School. This class was a great introduction to chemistry. The test questions are tough, but fair. There aren't any curveball questions like you might find on the tests of other professors. She doesn't take attendance, but if you don't come to class you'll likely find yourself behind. Read the textbook!!
Expects you to come in knowing a lot of information already. Makes no since being this is a preparatory chemistry class and I havent had chem since high school jr year (Im a transfer sophomore). Shes rude replying to emails and doesnt care about her students at all. Not easy to access outside of class either. I hated her.
Professor Ison is a nice professor with an amazing personality. If you take her for CHEM202, expect to have a hard class with an awesome professor. Granted it is CHEM, so the class average will almost always be a C, as is standard for CHEM 1 and 2. The weedout process is inescapable. Still, if you take CHEM with anyone, Dr. Ison is caring and funny
Ihave few characters so I'll get to the point. I got A+. This is howto succeed inher class. goto lecture. After lecture REWRITE ALL the notes you did that day. Do thewebassign textbook questions 1st! Then do HW. After doing all that you are golden for tests. Study for tests by looking at HW and textbook. Lowest grade was 98 on test. ShesAMAZING!!!
Dr Ison is awesome and I am able to focus on what she is saying since it is not in a giant auditorium. She records her lecture so you can go back to it and the quizzes do not hurt you and are extra credit. Tests are 25 MC questions.
The lab reports are a pain and are graded with a fine-tooth comb. Also, the pre-lab and in-labs are very important and if you miss them you will fail. Also since this class was online, it was extremely difficult because the lab groups didn't communicate and therefore we were teaching ourselves.
Labs do not work well in an online format. The directions for certain assignments were not always clear and on top of that the grading was very harsh. At times it felt like they were purposely looking for things to take off points for. You basically had to teach yourself how to write lab reports.
Professor Ison does a great job covering a large amount of material quickly in class, but don't miss a class or you'll easily be left behind. On the plus side, she allows you to have an index card of any information for 4/5 tests. Pro-tip, REWRITE each day's lecture notes, and do the homework afterward (including the end of chapter questions).
Her voice may put you to sleep but you have to pay attention to pass. watch all lectures and TAKE NOTES! do your homework and youll pass.
I love Dr. Ison! She really makes sure you understand the topics and is there to help if you need clarification. If you attend the lectures, take notes, and do practice problems, you will pass this class no problem!
Very patient and wonderful teacher! She is always willing to help students to make sure they completely understand all of the material. Her exams are always just like the material she teaches and the homeworks are very helpful when preparing for exams. The suggested end-of-chapter problems will HELP YOU SO MUCH!!!
She uses Sapling which is 10x better than WebAssign. Then she's relatively organized and makes her own test questions so problems from the lectures are the exact same as the ones on the test. Very clear and easy to understand and when things get confusing, she always welcomes all questions and is easily accessible outside of class. Model class:)
Amazing professor!! She was so clear in her lectures and explained hard topics and made them seem easy. Take Chem from her!!!
Professor Ison is very understanding. Tests may be slightly hard but she is able to back up and realize where curves should be applied. She also offers extra credit you could take throughout the course. She doesn't overload you with homework like other professors do and overall her course is very easy to follow.
Dr. Ison is a wonderful professor. Her lectures are clear with plenty of examples; she also curves all the exams and quizzes, and gives students an extra credit opportunity. Homework is on Sapling which is so much better than WebAssign. The class is basically chemistry with math so if you are good at math and know enough chemistry, you'll be fine.
Ana Ison is a very kind and sweet professor. She gives out very clear and informative lectures and offers opportunity for extra credit and grade improvement. The course is very difficult however, and requires a lot of outside studying and attention.
Ison is a very good and caring professor. Practice a lot and take advantage of extra credit because she does not bump since she curves during the semester. The exams are 30ish questions, MC, and usually involve 3 parts/questions within one question (ex. 1 and 2 is correct). I got a 78, 90, 90, and an 87 on the final to finish with a 92.
I loved Ison. CH201 is a difficult class, but Ison does a good job explaining topics clearly and in-depth. She is always willing to answer questions and spend extra time on things. She curved all of our tests, replaced our lowest test with our final, and dropped the lowest quiz grade. I would highly recommend her for CH201.
Dr. Ison is an amazing choice for CH 201! She essentially curved every test. Her quizzes are really similar to her tests as well. Focus on reworking the problems after class and doing the sapling and you will be fine.
I found Professor Ison to be a very good teacher. If you put in the work, watch the lectures, and do every assignment, you will be fine. Her expectations are clearly defined - make sure that you can do the homework assignments well, and you will be fine on the exams.
An amazing chem professor that made this 5 week crazy summer course bearable. She really looks out for her students and tries to make things fair. Best advice is to go through ppts the same day and rework all calculations. Practicing these multiple times, not to memorize the steps, but to understand the methods is key. Review past tests for final.
Dr. Ison is a great professor! She goes through the material at just the pace and is always there to help. She provides some extra credit and she tries to make a seemingly boring class enjoyable and relatable which is kind. She allows notecards on 4/5 tests and does a lot of example problems in class. Dont skip, or else youll find yourself LOST!!
This class sucks, the expirements are less dangerous than a middle school science class and you never meet the woman who grades everything extremely harshly, and cares more about how assignements look rather than the correct information, take 101 and 102 if possible.
Dr. Ison was a great professor. She listened to the needs of her students and was always willing to help us when we asked. Her philosophy was a bit of tough love, so she graded hard and her quizzes were tough, nothing impossible, but to see us demonstrate our understanding of the topics.
Dr. Ison is a rare professor that you'll feel lucky to have. Her class is designed incredibly well and while she is a tough grader, it's so easy to tell how much she cares about her students. She's incredibly knowledgeable on chemistry and flexible with assignments and due dates. I would easily take another one of her classes.
honestly was not my favorite professor by far, I thought she was a little cold but she wasn't the worst teacher. DO THE TOP HATS I wish I would've done it it would've brought my 79 to an 80. dont wait to cram for the tests bc you won't do well. Attend lectures.
She is probably as good as it will get in the Chemistry department.
Definitely not the worst in the world, but far from the best. Her tests are made to make you mess up as often as possible, but her final is an exception. Don't wait to cram for tests because it will not work. Expects way too much for it to be an INTRODUCTORY course. She does give an extra credit option that helps, and the tophats also help.
She is a little cold. She makes her tests extremely difficult. Good luck.
Loved Ana! She comes off as a little cold but I think it's just her way of showing she really cares for everyone's success. Very accessible too. Has a chat room that you can use to ask about HW and she'll almost always respond within a few hours. Tests are fair with good studying & have small curves. Always offers emotional support before tests :))
Dr. Ison is a great professor and is very capable to teach Chemistry 101. She explains concepts with great understanding and is easily comprehendable. Her exams are the bare bones of what you learn in class, as in they are not too complicated. I highly recommend her if you want a solid grade for chemistry.
Dr. Ison is a solid choice. I thought she did a good job teaching the material and offered us videos of her going over confusing topics if we ever wanted them. I have not liked her tests however. They aren't terrible, but she's the type of professor to include the C: A & B, D: B & C stuff. It's annoying, but doable. Her help makes up for it tho!
Not good.
You'll be lucky to get a prof like Dr.Ison. Shes VERY helpful and will go out of her way to help clear up confusing concepts. She has a google chat so its easy to communicate with her, she uploads several tutorial videos at the requests of students, and always has a review day before the test. Tests are hard but use her resources to your advantage!
Professor Ison is a good professor. Let us take a notecard to exams unlike a lot of other CH 101 professors. There is an online lecture option if you don't want to go to lecture in person which is nice.
Not a good class, super hard and not easy to learn in the environment. Tests were very hard and worth all of your grade.
This professor was overall great. She knows her material and is great at coming up with examples for any questions. Exams are kinda easy, if you do the end-of-chapter problems you should be prepared for the exams along with reviewing in class notes. Know most of the vocabulary, and most of the material relates to most of the chapters.
In CH111 your grade is dependent on 3 tests and your final. Luckily Mrs. Ison drops your lowest test score by replacing it with your final and she provides one extra credit opportunity.
She is okay. She offered extra credit. All she does is get up and read off the slides and does problems sometimes with you. Here test are kinda long and you really have to study hard.
A. Ison does a good job at explaining things thoroughly and is accessible for several office hours in the week. She curved grades heavily. Attendance is not mandatory but top hat is taken for each lecture.
She is a tough professor but sets you up for success. Very little homework, notecard provided on 3/4 tests, very very good at lecturing the material. Material was tough and many of my classmates did poor in the class but only because they didn't study. If you are willing to study 2-3 hours before the exams, you will do great.
Professor Ison's class prepared me very well for CH 101. There was a lot of work, but all of her tests were multiple choice and she always graded them on a curve that benefitted all students.
I took her in the fall and I am so glad I took the class with her, she is one of the best in the chem department compared to many others.
Try to get her as a professor, she is really organized, caring, and good at explaining things
She was a great professor for CH111, I am glad I got her. I ended up watching most of her lectures online but she still explains things decently well for everyone. Definitely need to study for the tests, but if you have somewhat of a background in chem this class is easily passable. I would take her again for another chemistry
She is a very kind teacher who will take the time to explain things to you when you don't understand. She offers a few extra credit assignments. If you miss class you should watch the lecture recording. You also need to study for the tests. Overall I think she was a great teacher.
If you have no knowledge of chemistry this class will be difficult for you. If you studied every dingle day it's definitely passable but still hard IMO. Some extra credit assignments but barely any curves on exams. A lot of homework but unlimited attempts to get it right. No exams are dropped so if you do bad you're kind of screwed.
Dr. Ison is an amazing professor. If you simply pay attention during the lectures and do a little bit of practice every now and then, you will be fine. As long as you try your hardest and go to office hours if you need it, you will really enjoy this class.
Dr. Ison was a super great professor to have! She helped me understand the basics of chemistry easily and was very understanding. I hope I get to take her again.
CH 111 with Professor Ison was a really well paced course, especially for me who had forgot literally everything relating to chem from high school. Her lectures are laid out in a way so that you will have the chance to practice the content and ask questions before she moves on to other topics. A must have professor!
Lectures are very notes heavy. She also gave lots of extra credit which boosted my grade. Very passionate on what she was teaching.
Great Professor. Lecture heavy but they really help understanding. Lots of extra credit towards end of class. Good intro to chem course to start college with.
Ison's chem course is lecture-heavy but worth it. Use Unstuck AI and the free textbook to excel. Attend class, work hard, and you'll gain a solid chem foundation.
Great professor and person. She will work with students to try and make sure pass the class
Can tell she genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. This class gives you a great foundation for going into CH 101. If you take good notes, particiapte in class examples, and do the assigned homework, exams should not be bad. Really enjoyed Ana Ison!
AI is fine, she just is boring. I think most people like her I just want to fall asleep in this class. She doesn't take attendance for CH111 but there are tophats(however she keeps them open for 24hrs)
I think Professor Ison is a great professor especially if you had taken Chemistry in high school and don't remember much from the class. You can either go to the lecture or watch the recording, attendance on Top Hat, 3 main exams and the final, then homework on achieve. If you have to take this class, I highly recommend her.
This class was enjoyable, but really hard. I am not good at chemistry, but Dr. Ison is a great teacher and will take the time to help you understand! She gives multiple opportunities for extra credit on exams so if you don't do as well as you hope you can make it up. Great professor!
Great professor. I didn't take Chem is high school, so took CH111 here. I definitely had to study, but her exams are very reasonable and all multiple choice. She also curved each exam to help us out and offered extra credit. Very accessible outside of class and had a big chat for students to connect. Straightforward teaching and expectations!!
Professor Ison is super nice and teaches the material well. She's super helpful and has a class period before each exam dedicated to answering questions and working out any problems students want her to. As someone who took chemistry in high school and forgot most of the material, I found this class to be quite easy.
Seems like a well respected individual who cares about the material. Her tests are extremely difficult and her students are expected to be well versed in chemical equations. Thats fine for people pursuing a science based degree however as someone who is in a completely different field its uneccessary. For an introductory course it should be easier.
The examples during class are completely different than the tests. The homework on "achieve" is nothing like what is done in class or the tests; when you email her, she gives no feedback. She does not provide all of the notes on Moodle, only some and you have to watch what she writes, but her handwriting is awful so you can't even read it.
She treats her classes like it's middle school, if a single person is talking, she will wait for them to be done. There are 260 people in the class; at least one person will be talking! Her lecture is easy, but the test is AWFUL. She tells you she will give you certain information on the test, then doesn't. Would NOT recommend it at ALL.
Professor is obviously very passionate about what she does. She's very friendly but respectable. Attendance isn't mandatory but the class is lecture heavy. Test grades are heavy but there is typically extra credit after testing.
She was very communicative. She also provides good resources and is easily accessible outside of class.
Professor Ison is a very good chem teacher. She clearly cares a lot about the students and their education. The reason I didn't give her a 5 is that she occasionally goes a little too fast in the lectures. You can get confused and lost easily if you aren't always paying attention.
Very knowledgeable.Goes fast: if you do not have a chemistry background you are essentially on your own through reading textbook, making sure you go to tutoring, and any other supplemental resources provided. She gives extra credit.I do not prefer her “learn on your own teaching style”.She's told us literally she will not teach us for comprehension
Ison is a good professor, however she has the tendency to be impatient or hard of hearing as she always claims everyone talks during the lecture. She doesn't really teach what is on the test, but as long as you read the textbook and do the end of chapter problems you'll probably pass.
Professor Ison is a great chem teacher. Her lessons made topics easy to understand, and she provided many other resources for learning material. Her biggest fault is that she reminds me of a high school teacher, sort of a "the bell doesn't dismiss you, I do" type of person.
Even though it was a large class, I felt like it was easy to ask questions. The class has three exams, a final, homework for each chapter, and an in class participation grade through TopHat. If you pay attention in the lectures and do practice outside of class you should be successful in this class. Gave me a great foundation going into CH101.
If you are not good at taking exams, I would not recommend taking this class. The exams count for about 82% of your grade. I spent hours and hours studying for the exams to still end up failing, or barely passing the exams. It is very frustrating as the homework is not similar to the exams at all.
Dr. Ison was a great instructor for my first semester. I have taken chem but a couple years ago so I didn't remember most information but I was able to remember easily through her lectures. Her class is lecture heavy, grades are only homework and tests so studying is important. Her lectures are recorded so you can go back and listen after class.
Don't take it if you don't need to. I didn't need this class but decided it would help in 101, you learn the same material 101 learns, when it is supposed to prep and learn basics. Extra credit is only 3-5 points. Lectures are boring, all of her exams are multiple-choice and tough. She also calls her students out, but sometimes she is funny.
Dr. Ison is great! Tests are all curved and there are extra credit opportunities. Dr. Ison recommended reading the textbook and doing end of chapter problems to review for the tests, but I would only do that if you feel really bad about the material. Just keep up with lectures and homework and you'll do great!
If you didn't understand chemistry much in high school good luck in this class. She explains the material so quickly without going in depth. I'm convinced that without a tutor this class will be difficult, especially if you struggled in high school. You mostly end up teaching yourself the material as she skims over everything so quickly.
She sometimes moved fast but overall explained everything very well and always put aside a class before the exam where she answered questions. She was also active in the Google chat answering questions. But do not try and pack up before the lecture is supposed to end because she does not like that!
You should not have any problem in this course unless you run into issues in your personal life. The course itself was not so difficult; however, I was so sick I was in the hospital during our first exam, and Dr. Ison said I had to take the zero. As a result, I ended with a 79 which she refused to round up. This will be the first C I have ever had.
This is a great class to take for a Chemistry refresher. Do NOT underestimate it though; studying is necessary. There are 3 tests and a final. You are allowed a notecard for all exams except one of the tests; homework is light but helpful. Attendance is not required; Tophat is your attendance so do it. Multiple choice tests with a decent curve!
All of her exams are multiple choice and she does a great job teaching. She also allows a note card cheat sheet on 2 of her 3 midterms and the final. I thought the material itself was confusing, but Professor Is on did a fantastic job with examples and definitions.
It is incredibly important to read the textbook BEFORE the lecture, she move incredibly fast but is decisive and clear IF you can keep up! You will get an A if you put in a little bit of effort and get over the mental hurdles of chemistry being an inherently strange subject.
Really great professor, thorough and always supporting students to get help if they need it. you do have to pay close attention to get a good grade, but you'll learn a lot if you do.
Ison is a great professor for prep chem. Her slides are accessible, and you can rewatch the lectures which I found helpful. I found her tests to be very challenging in comparison to the homework, lectures, and practice problems, but she curves every exam. You have to study hard for the tests, but office hours and the note cards are very helpful.
CH111 is for sure worth taking if you're not feeling confident about CH101. She has easy to follow lectures, definitely worth going to class. She also does TopHat for attendance. Class is pretty test heavy but there is extra credit and final grade replacement.
I would never recommend this professor to anyone. She is disrespectful to students and very condescending. The homework is nothing like the tests; the tests are insanely difficult, and I would do study groups for hours. A lot of people withdrew from this class as it is impossible to pass. I enjoyed chem prior to this class. do not take this teacher
I thought Professor Ison was amazing. You get a notecard on almost every test, which is very helpful. Lots of resources are available on Moodle to review. She is accessible outside of class and wants to help. I thought she did a great job at explaining difficult concepts. I feel very prepared for CH 101 now. Would recommend.
She did a great job at explaining the material but you have to do really good on the tests to make a good grade in the class. She also does not give much practice except for homework problems.
Pretty good professor, very good at explaining concepts. For some reason does not like it when students try to explain chemistry topics to another. Other than that, pay attention, do the achieve and end of chapter homework, and you will probably pass.
Dr. Ison was a good professor. I didn't really enjoy the lectures, but the class was easy. I didn't attend most of the lectures & was able to figure it out by watching the recordings. She made it easy to meet with her & get feedback if you wanted to. You will do well in this class if you study & complete the homework. (notecard for 3/4 exams)
Dr. Ison was a great professor! She's good at teaching. Lecture material reflected what was on the exams. She gives good tips on what to know and not know on the exams and was always willing to answer any questions we had. Just make sure to study and do your homework, that will guarantee you at least an 80-90% for the course.
