Her classes were alright, very boring, but what can ya expect?? Her pronunciation is kinda weird too..
Class was boring. All notes were on powerpoint slides. Tests were challenging. She needs to learn how to speak english better. Most of the time is hard to understand.
you definatly have to get to know her. She can be really cool though and will work with you if you show intrest.
Strict but fair. Hard too. I think 75% of the class droped over the semester. But it is not impossible to get a good grade.
this class is hard
if i did not have this laptop i would be sleeping right now. bc im in the class.
HARD course! Study like crazy. Great teacher. "Now let's ashume..."
Tip: Take it online in the summer. It is better that way. Trust me. You can thank me later. Wait. You can't. Nevermind, but trust me anyway. I know. Regular Class: C- Online in the summer: A NOW do you get what I mean? I hope so if not UR dumb.
I really hated this class. Extremely boring and w/o the laptops I woulda slept every day. Id ask for help and shed get mad at me. Labs sucked. She likes to do pop quizes too. If you can pay attention, go to class all the time, and like chem you'll do fine.
Our class average for test was like 60% and she couldn't figure out why! She cant teach. Tests are tricky and dont ask questions or she'll get mad.
this class is hard
She is a good teacher who doesnt know how to teach!!!! Usless experience....
I loved Vandelinde. She was always willing to help out and a huge sweetheart. If you respect her, she will treat you with respect. If she doesn't like you, you might feel a bit of a wrath. Just sit in the front row and have her call on you. You'll earn her respect.
She is smart but can't teach. Her test are almost impossible. Unless you are a chemistry buff you will have a difficult time in one of her classes
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! Tests are impossible!! She maybe be smart but doesnt know how to present topics. Lucky to pass
hard to understand. I'd read the book, understand it, then go to class and be totally lost. Her exams are all applied problems and there isn't enough time to finish. Her english verbs & plurals are always wrong, find yourself translating. uses power point, and just reads the display. doing homework is the only savior for grades.
Terrible. Had her for two online classes and hated each one. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She is the hardest teacher ever and is really hard to understand. Tests are hard even if you study for four hours.
She has no sympathy at all. I and my classmates have missed quizes and most recently an actual exam because she changed the time which hasn't been change before and will not respond to any e-mails or phone calls. Completely worthless
Very hard to understand sometimes. Her lectures are only off her slides and does not go into great detail on how to do the work. Very hard tests.
She is the worst professor I have ever had. She does not know how to answer your questions. She is of no help during labs and answers lab questions with "I don't Know", homework is irrelevant to class because she uses different notes than the book. During lectures she constantly messes up on problems and expects you to know how to do it, even whe
Vandelinde is very smart, and her teaching style takes some getting used to. Don't listen to the other ratings. Most are probably by students that have not made any effort. Try hard, ask questions, and study on your own. It is very possible to get an A in the class.
First off 4 good reviews since 2004 should tell you what kind of teacher Vande Linde is. Ignore those 4 reviews, she is easily the hardest teacher I have had.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. Clearly has no interest in the students, came just short of calling a couple students liars when they said the online tutorials or D2L had issues which prevented them from completing assignments. Avoid this instructor at all costs!
DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS ONLINE. This class is hard enough to comprehend in class, online is unbearable. OWL and D2L are the worst combination. Also, there are arbitrary rules of hers that she grades horrendusly. Timing on everything is off. Just put this off to actually take it in class compared to online.
Horrible professor. Take this class if you enjoy trying to learn everything yourself outside of class. Homework problems rarely cover anything that is covered in class or on tests/quizzes. Quizzes and Tests are very difficult. Lectures are confusing, and she rarely works out a problem without making several errors.
Not very good. She can speak decent english but she has a heavy accent that sometimes is hard to understand. I didn't get much out of lectures and had to teach myself most everything using owl. Her timing on stuff is off, owl work can be on stuff lectured about weeks earlier and she can start lecture on stuff thats 2 tests away.
She is bad. You will have to teach yourself all of the material and figure out the homework for yourself seeing as lecture notes don't have any correlation to the homework, quizes and tests. I have no idea how she still has a job teaching. At the end of the year I will be demanding a refund, I suggest all students in her current class do.
I took the online class, it is riddled with mistakes and this teacher does not actually teach the class. She relies on what has already been posted to provide students with the content and progression of the class. If you have questions, you will be met with an unhelpful defensive response.
Dr. Vande Linde is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. Her exams and Quizes are very hard, but if you ask she will help you with any concept. If you are having trouble in lecture go to the study center. Dr. V is passionate and will help you.
The course was well organized. She uses D2L to post all information. Exams are online and open notes. Dr. Vande Linde expects her students to study hard. Students who slack off will not do well in this class. Dr. Vande Linde is very helpful, she will help you understand the topic if you ask her.
Very confusing to listen during lectures and not very helpful.Says she will help with any questions but when asked a question she is very vague with answers and seems to get irritated when you don't understand the material. I would not recommend her class due to her not being understanding. Tests and quizzes are difficult but as expected with chem
The class was not very easy. She just recites her power points and you teach yourself the rest. Every time someone would ask a question she could never understand how they were having trouble. Her accent doesn't help either, it makes listening more difficult.
I was very interested in Chemistry before this class. I took the same class in high school and got an A. I am barely getting a C in this class. I would like to say I am good at chemistry but this class was hard. Tests and quizzes are very hard. Good luck if you do take her class.
Dr. Vande Linde is a nice professor who means well. Her lectures are long and not very useful usually. Her labs are difficult and long (all titrations) and her quizzes are really hard! Stay confident though because she bumps your grade up one whole letter at the end!
Hard class very stressful. There is a quiz everyday and if you do not read the book on that section and copy down her lecture notes you will not do well on those quizzes, even if you do all that you probably still won't do well on her miserable quizzes. Tests are also very hard. Your grade goes up a letter at the end of the year if you stick it out
Be ready to utilize the internet. Also her final is gerneraly online ;D
This is the worst professor I could ever imagine taking. This lady gives hard quizzes, that she doesn't explain how to do well, or show examples. before hand. She does show examples but she expects us to know harder concepts that elaborate off the examples. She makes mistakes constantly during class and in her notes. Giving grey hairs at 19 ...
She is very nice teacher!!!!!! There are quiz during every classes. but all of them are not hard ! give a lot of extra credit! notebook are allowed to use during quiz.
Tried waiting 3 years for somebody else to teach the class besides her but I got stuck with her anyways. Just get it over with sooner rather than later. She needs a different teaching style.
In the lectures she gives example problems that she thinks prepares you enough for the quizzes and exams, but they do not at all. The questions on the exams are nothing at all like the ones that we go over in class. She says that if you come into her office and ask her for help she will help you, but I didn't know enough to even ask her anything.
One of the worst professors i have ever had.
One of the worst professors i have had. She expects us to already know everything and hardly explains it to us.
Terrible teacher. Quizzes every class. HW rarely relates to quizzes. Stresses sig figs, but never in close with her numbers. Often does the math wrong. Does not like when you ask questions. Labs are fairly easy
Awful. Confusing. Half the time she didn't even know what was going on. She had mistakes in her slides all the time which made it hard to take notes. Tests and quizzes are way harder than the homework. She doesn't help at all.
She expects you to know all the basics before you start her class so if you've never taken Chem before it will be hard to keep up sometimes. Lectures are long and she just reads over her power points which you're expected to copy ahead of time. A lot of material in a short amount of time so if you don't know what is going on you're in trouble.
Awful teacher. Do not take her unless you want to teach yourself everything. Her quizzes and tests are crazy hard and she will not curve.
She is just awful. she doesnt teach she makes you learn everything on your own, and you dont know if you are learning something wrong. She grades very harshly
Very intimidating at first and expects you to know all the first day in class. Didn't have lecture so all she does is go through examples during DIS and read her slides (basically teaching yourself everything). Copy everything she writes in your notebook and all lecture slides! Quizzes twice a week. Can use notebook on every test/quiz-good thing!
Plan on taking a TON of notes and doing a lot of work outside of class if you want to pass. Quizzes or tests everyday in class, and lab quizzes instead of lab reports. Vande Linde is super nice, but very confusing and unclear when it comes to teaching. However, she gives tons of extra credit and if you work hard you will get a good grade.
Dr. Vande Linde is very genuine. Shes tough because Chemistry is white and black, no grey areas. Expect to spend many hours studying.
homework once every two weeks the test and quizzes are tough but the home work gives you some extra credit points and the exams are open notebook
If you ask a question in class you better have a good idea of whats going on because she will ask you about 1o questions for every one question you ask and usually you are left with even more confusion. Nice lady but very confusing and the test and quizzes are extremely difficult. be prepared to teach yourself through Youtube videos.
I don't know why she gets a lot of heat. It's not the hardest course you'll take and she is willing to answer questions and work with you outside of class as long as you're trying. Just take the lecture notes before class and pay attention and you'll do fine. There is opportunity for extra credit in the homework.
Lowest test OR 10 quizzes dropped from final grade. Taking complete notes on the lectures before the discussion is almost required to understand material to it's entirety. Ask questions in class when you don't understand and go to the tutor center with homework questions. Read questions carefully before choosing answers.
She lets you have a composition notebook that you can use on all tests and quizzes. Quizzes every other day of lecture, roughly about 2 times a week. Mastering Chemistry problem sets every other week. She also provides lots and lots of extra credit. You're bound to do well as long as you keep up and do your fair share.
Dr. Vande Linde uses a reverse classroom approach. If you have questions about the reading, she answers them. Easy as that! Be sure to take good notes because you can use them on the tests
Yes, this class requires you to teach yourself, however, her notes are always clear and fairly extensive. Anybody who says she doesn't teach did not ask questions when they were confused. Her homework is also really helpful; she has it posted for the entire semester, and I recommend doing it before the test/quizes. Get a 3 subject composition book.
Little help in the notes and doesn't seem to care much about students learning. Also needs to work on laying out WHAT you need to know/learn in order to be successful in class.
She is awful. Had to take over the summer and it was nearly impossible. Her instructions are so vague and not helpful, and then when you email her for help/questions she tells you to find it yourself. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. AWFUL!!!
She is not a good professor in my opinion. She seems like one of those professors who is brilliantly minded but not a good teacher and this is coming from an online student. I tried to email her about getting some points back on HW but she didn't even acknowledge what I said in the email and just said no without any explanation. I don't recommend.
She gets way to specific in quizzes and exam, which is also the only thing she grades in this class. They are not true tests of what I have learned. I wouldn't recommend this professor. I did learn a lot even though my grade doesn't reflect that because of way she sets up assessments.
Fortunately, most of the class grade are lab reports; which are easy to get A's on. Quizzes are too specific and essentially have to transcribe the entire chapter into your notebooks to get the fill-in-the-blank correct. The rest are stats based maths' problems. Does not leave enough time for questions before the quiz the same period 2x a week.
Spelling counts. Uses color based indicators, if your color blind the labs will be extremely difficult or next to impossible. She did not answer questions in class and regularly has her own errors in the math portions she attempts to teach.
This was for Environmental chemistry. She gave you 30 objectives a night for a 10 question quiz every day in class. She gave you way too many questions on the test and not enough time to complete the test. She also will accuse you of cheating if you do not turn in a carbon copy for your lab attendance. She also can't explain the math questions well
Stupid hard for a general chemistry. Homework doesnt match her tests or quizzes at all. Youd be better off not taking her class and watching some YouTube videos. Shes extremely unapproachable. Basically tells you to not email or contact her. I would avoid her at all costs.
I took this class over the summer- EXTREMELY difficult. I basically had to tell my job I couldnt pick up any hours at work until this class was done. Her problem sets didnt match the quizzes/tests. She does give extra credit & her final was relatively easy compared to her 4 exams. I would recommend taking an alternative professor if you can.
Dr. Vande Linde has only showed up to one class out of the entire semester and it was basically to say that we should already know the generals of chemistry and that her TA Shane Medin will be instructing the class for her while she sits in her office. Shane is great on the otherhand. Quizzes and exams are next to impossible to finish in time given
She uses the flipped classroom approach which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't chemistry that we had to teach ourselves. She isn't helpful at all during discussion and when asked to elaborate on problems she just says how to do it is on the slides and she shouldn't need to show us. She is very unapproachable and has very limited office hours. 0/10
Lectures are your responsibility to watch and take notes on outside of class. Each lecture section has a lecture quiz in class that you can use your notes on. Homework has a lot of extra credit points. No lab reports, just a short lab quiz at the end of lab
Do you hate your life? Do you ever catch yourself thinking "How can I make life harder than it needs to be?" Want to reach a frustration level that results in tears? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this is the professor for you!! Only take this class if you want to lose a hand from writing so much and your sanity.
I have taken her for 136 and Quant. Frankly, I don't think she should be a teacher. She doesn't teach. Sure, you get a notebook for quizes/tests, but if you don't take EXACT notes you're screwed, and if you ask a question, she runs through the math without actually *explaining*. I've tutored all her classes for YEARS. Nobody has good things to say.
Amazing professor. Covers all materials thoroughly. Allows the use of all lecture notes on all quizzes and exams. In class quiz for every assigned lecture. Fair grader.
I learned a lot, but it was just taking notes all day then take a quiz with your notes. She took points away for spelling, which means a lot when your writing an entire notebook of notes and misspell "Polypropylene" by one letter. There were also questions that were often confusing. Her lectures were alright just play her lectures at x1.50 speed.
She did was not specific in her lectures with the content. Often made mistakes herself and would have to look up what was right and wrong. Did not make adiquitte time for 1 on 1 meetings. Would not answer questions in a timely manner. Her tests and exams often included content not talk about in lecture or the text book and would take direct quotes.
As long as you study for at least two to three hours a night and haven taken a chemistry class before her class and spell every word correctly and know that a 35 question assignment actually has five parts to every question you'll do fine.
There is often material on exams that is not gone over in lecture or on the homework. Dr. Vande Linde can come off as rude at times, although that may not be her intention. If you take this course I would suggest visiting the tutoring center whenever you have a chance. You will likely need the help.
If you truly want to hate your life and your college experience I recommend taking this professor. The class wouldn't have been so bad if there was a different professor taking it. She is not kind and not understanding in any aspects. I highly do not recommend taking her for ANY classes. I'm not entirely sure why she is even still teaching.
She never really teaches anything, you just copy her ppt for the entire 2 hours class. What she taught you is very shallow, but the homework is extremely difficult, so get ready for this. If you are super passionate about Chem, take it.
She was an awful teacher in lectures, expected too much out of us and is very detail orientated. The labs were enjoying with Shane being the saving grace of the class. Don't take her for anything else if given the option!!
The class is TUFF. Her exams are impossible and her lectures are not good, lab is fun though if you get Josiah.
Vande Linde has a very clear disconnect with students. She has a hard time understanding where the students are in class and tends to go by material quickly. By no means is she awful, but if you want to pass this class with higher than a C, going in for office hours is the way to go. She is actually a great teacher when you can talk 1-on-1.
She expects a lot out of students, but I don't understand why half of these are saying all the work was difficult. This is college and it isn't meant to be easy. She does make you write down her PowerPoint for the whole class, but if you don't understand something she is available for help during office hours. A great professor for Science Majors.
A lot of people don't like her. She gives a lot of homework but offers tons of extra credit. If you ever need help and take the time to ask she is super sweet and will answer even the stupidest of questions. She's amazing, I will be taking more of her classes. As hard as it is I learned more in one semester than the whole last year with her.
She expects a lot in class and on homework. But if you ever have an issue she's really easy to talk to and get help, she even lets you move tests and stuff if you have stuff going on.
I loved this class and professor vande linde. You have to put the time in if you want to pass, but my no means is it hard.
As long as you take notes your fine, she writes everything on the board and all you have to do is copy it down. Open notes on tests, and they're on your own. Extra credit, do it. She offers up enough to keep your grade afloat.
Favorite professor from my freshman year. She's really helpful and has lots of office hours.
Lots of homework. But it really helps your grade if you do it. The tests are also kind of tricky, but they're open notes.
This class is hard. I strongly recommend going to her office hours. While lectures aren't really helpful, one on one she helps a lot.
She's so sweet. The lectures are awful and the tests even worse. But if you ask for help she helps. Go to office hours.
The grading is super strict, if you don't do something there's no makeup. But if you do your work on time and ask for help she's not an awful person, just an interesting teacher. Office hours and labs are super fun too.
Super hard class. Amazing professor.
Challenging class, but go to office hours and use unstuck ai for study prep - it really helps balance the strict grading. Professor is sweet and genuinely wants students to succeed.
Dr. Vande Linde is one of the sweetest professors in the science department. She is often busy, but will make time for you outside of class if you ask. Sometimes lecture can be a lot, but take good notes and do the homework,
Incredibly difficult to work with. She emphasizes needing to spend 2 hours/day studying, but you'll probably need more. While attendance isnt mandatory, there's a quiz every day that cannot be made up.
We have quizzes every single day. This class is incredibly difficult. I learned nothing from the lectures and everything on my own.
-Quizzes everyday -Very harsh grading -Can be very irritable -Quizzes are 41 % of grade
