Ananda was a great teacher at the beginning, But some of her homework seemed to be unclear when it was due and when I would ask for clarification, she seemed put out and irritated. Her lectures were very insightful and eye opening but she did seem biased in some subjects and i feel like that really hindered her ability to feed us viable information
Really like her as a teacher and would definitely take her again. Sometimes she will send out mass emails explaining how the class was disrespectful and even once asked the class "is it because I am a black woman?" That was weird, because I have never once noticed disrespect while in class. Other than that, I would recommend her, and enjoy class!
She is so amazing and a great lecturer.
Ananda was a great professor! Her lectures make you think outside the box. Lots of inspirational videos, and pieces of history. There is a lot of homework for this class. She really makes you evaluate your life, are you happy? How can you achieve happiness? Seriously though, easiest class I've taken. Just don't disrespect her, or miss class!
Ananda, Is an amazing professor. She is very kind and understanding. She teaches with enthusiasm! Loves what she teaches! She is also concerned with everyone passing the class. She is simply amazing!
Ananda is such an amazing professor!! Her class was definitely tough, but she did everything she could to help you pass with an A. I learned so much about life and the world in this class and it was a great eye opener for me. I am so excited to take more of her classes and would recommend her to everyone! Take her class!!!
She's an awesome teacher she helps everyone whoever is going with difficulties and she's very respectful. I would take her class again.
i really liked attending this class because anandas lectures were great! theres a lot of homework online but it's pretty easy to do. also if you dont like group discussions it would be hard to be in this class because there are a lot of times where we had to talk in groups. other than that this class was a blast
Amanda Spike would have to be the most understandable professor I have had throughout my first year of college, and would highly recommend her. She if very understanding of what trials college students are faced with. As a student athlete, she was very understanding when we were on the road, which majority of professors aren't. Thank you!
Ananda Spike was honestly one of the best teachers I have had. I really enjoyed her class, and the class material. All the topics were very interesting. She is a great teacher, but is very honest when you don't do your work. I think this is a great class to take, and she is a great teacher as long as you are prepared to do your homework and test.
Love, love, LOVE Ananda's class! This is the second class I've taken from her and I would take every single one if I could. She gives great lectures. She really makes you think outside of your comfort zone for the homework, but you learn so much. Attendance is mandatory. She does what she can to help you pass, which is amazing. TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Loved her class. She makes you think critically while creating a safe class zone. She has helped me learn a lot in one semester. It was a class I enjoyed going to, it was really engaging. Grading isn't too but participation is a big part of you grade so you have to be there everyday.
Ananda is by far one of thee most amazing teacher i had this semester! She literally knows her stuff when teaching! I was able to learn a heap load of things that opened my mind to this world and the minds of human beings! I wouod totally take another class of hers. Shes also fun and class is super interesting! Love her!
I absolutely loved Ananda's lectures and I am glad I took her class! As a class we discussed some hot topics which broadened my perspective by hearing different sides from my classmates. Attendance is mandatory, there are 2-3 quizzes directly from the textbook, and a few papers. Overall easy A.
She a really nice professor and is fair to all her student. She might leave a bad impressions on you of her on the first day of class, but hey professor spike is a very nice and caring person. I agree with everything she does in class.
Ananda was really fantastic. She was honest and we talked about real world topics that are happening today. This is a heavy participation class, the more you participate the more you will get out of it.
She's a great teacher -- very thoughtful and dynamic. The material is challenging but she does a lot of analogies to help work through it.
This course was a complete mess. She allowed class discussions to deteriorate into side arguments not even related to the course, taking up time that could better be used to discuss course material. She also posted ratings from here onto SLCC's Canvas site, which was shockingly unprofessional and inappropriate. I would not recommend her at all.
My original philosophy of religions teacher quit on us a month into the course so Ananda came in and took over. I feel bad that some people are so demanding from a woman trying her best. She came into a class with kids who are already comfortable with another teacher and she put her best foot forward. I still love this class and Ananda is great.
Straight up. There are much better professors to take philosophy from at SLCC. She just does not teach. She speaks, shows a video, throws up a power point, end of story. Nice woman but not a professor you want to take a class from.
Ananda is kind, but she is not a teacher of philosophy. She uses youtube as course material, and bashes philosophers before students can form their own opinions. I understand how DIFFICULT it would be to take over a class mid sem, but that's no excuse to not make the course yours."education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel."
When our original teacher left he said to keep an open mind and put ourselves in Ananda's shoes. I have done that every day and it's hard to see any flaw in her way of teaching. She is kind, caring, and considers everyone's opinions on making the class run smoother. She is very specific about grading and when assignments are do.
I liked the class but she made it way too easy. I learned more by reading it for myself rather than showing up for class. Nothing but youtube videos and random tangents. Not sure I wanna take another class from her, but shes really nice and friendly, especially considering how small our class was. I got an easy A but I wish I learned more from it.
Although true, the previous professor of this course who had to leave said have an open mind, I don't recall him saying have no mind at all. She doesn't seem to know philosophy/religion nor how to explain it, shows irrelevant videos, and yes, she calls out classes for bad reviews on RMP. Ridiculous! Take classes from someone else.
I honestly love not only this professor, but also the topics she teachers. Can feel free to talk, share personal experiences. its great. the classes interacts with each other. would honestly take all my classes from her if I could, absolutely amazing teacher.
I just finished taking Philosophy 1000, I currently have a grade of 110% I just did everything on time and went to class. She has a few bad reviews from the past semester because she got thrown into teaching mid-semester. She's brought food every time, is really caring, and will extend the homework that we only do once a week. Easy A!
Ananda is a very dynamic teacher of a very difficult topic encouraging exploration of self while projecting our thoughts to others. As a uniquely non-traditional student in need of great sensitivity, I found her management of instruction very engaging and enjoyable. The homework is well designed to enable the papers to be written thoughtfully.
Fantastic class, I wish I could have taken it during a full semester instead of the summer because I enjoyed the lectures so much. Ananda loves teaching and it really shows in her lectures! She is always there to help and is very respectful of everyones beliefs and views. Super interesting and thought provoking topics in this class!
Ananda is very open to new ideas and gives everyone a safe space to learn. I really wish that more professors followed her formula of discussion and learning upon each other rather than administering tests to assess memorized knowledge. The lectures, while they may seem long, are filled with stats and make you think. Thoroughly enjoyed this class!
Straight up: if you're close minded and want to stick with your opinion without listening to other people's point of view, dont take this class. Ananda is a great professor, she lets her students express their ideas but she also encourages them to listen to others. She wants their students to be aware of whats going on out there. Loved the class.
Prof. Spike is professional and caring. I like her lectures. She has a good way to inspire everyone in class to participate. You should definitely take her class.
Ananda is very creative with how she goes about teaching her material. It was a very interactive class with lots of class discussions, reflections, and videos to help make real life parallels. She is organized, thorough, and her lectures are incredible. You won't regret it!
Ananda is one of the BEST professors I have ever had in my life. Her class really makes you think about the world around you. She puts so much effort in her lectures, you can tell she is passionate about her work. I am so sad I won't be able to have her as my professor next semester. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Ananda seriously has one of the best classes I've taken here at SLCC. This class was interesting from day one. The homework assignments aren't hard they just take time but honestly it's fun for the most part. She is such a great professor in the way she teaches, how she treats her students and how much she cares! Take her classes!!!!!!
The textbook & I didn't jive. It was an eBook that wasn't very user-friendly imo, but that shouldn't count against the professor. I was able to still complete everything from my lecture notes & a little research outside of class. Prof put a lot of time and effort into her slides, links, current events and lectures. Great & engaging class! Take it!
She really cares about her students and wants you to learn. She values everyones opinion and isnt preachy about her own. She is very good good at making a safe environment to speak your mind. Because of this class I decided to take on a Philosophy minor. Cannot day enough good things about Mrs. Spike.
Ananda makes her class very interesting to be in with a variety in the things done in class and outside of it. Is not boring. Very precise about what she expects from the students and how she will do things. Lots of reading comprehension goes into most of the homework, but in class there isn't typically any reading besides what Is on a PowerPoint.
Ananda is a caring teacher and the class was super fun. Class environment was very well respected. There are lectures, but it's interesting and will rarely bore you out. The assignments she gives out does need some effort to get done, but trust me, it's not hard at all! Attendance is required however you get a lot of chances. :) great class.
There was a lot of homework and work to succeed in the class, but I didn't have much of a problem. Even with having a full time job and missing classes due to work, I still got an A+ in the class with extra credit. Just due the work and come to class and you'll do well. Very inspirational lecture structure, stimulating, and amazing teacher.
Overall a fun and awesome professor. She really cares about her students.
She is a great professor and kept the class interesting the whole time! Take her class you wont regret it!
She has your back 110% while in class or outside of class. She cares about her students and will help you along the path to success. If you skip class you wont pass the class.
I absolutely loved this class. The class isn't real difficult but it definitely makes you think. You have great in class discussions. There is a significant amount of homework but it isn't real hard. Attendance in mandatory but you'll love going to this class. She allows 6 absences total but you won't want to use them. GREAT CLASS
Ananda is an amazing professor, she is insightful and caring/forgiving. You will definitely learn something. There is quite a bit of homework/ papers but I still ended up with a good grade with missing a few. I loved this class and will be taking her ethics class!
She cares for her students and wants them to succeed. You can tell shes very passionate about the topics she teaches. She cater to different learning styles. We need more teachers like her in every field. She has sparked a passion in me for the humanities and for that I will always be greatful.
She is an amazing professor! I have never learned so much in a single class! Highly recommend! She cares about her students and making the class as interesting as possible. There is always an opportunity for extra credit, she's super nice and down to earth :)
I love Ananda! She is super caring, loves her students and loves philosophy. Homework and tests are not super hard. She offers lots of extra credit opportunities. She wants the best for her students and strives to see them succeed. The textbook was online and free.
Ananda is the BEST professor I have had at SLCC. She is incredibly insightful. I loved that she didn't make us memorize philosophers or dates or other things. She leaves the discussions and topics open for your own interpretation, and I learned a lot about myself and gained so many new perspectives and insights. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!
Ananda is one of the best professors I have had by far! Her lectures are amazing and shes great with getting you to engage during class ! Shes very clear and precise on teaching material and uses Logan of visual aid! A super fun class, I would definitely take another class from her!
I wouldn't take this teacher at all. There are assignments and quizzes due almost every two days, the amount of workload is absurd for a religions class. Her assignments are not clear and time consuming. She is a critical grader when it comes to participation comments requiring to comment on 2 other students feedback. I dropped this class.
She was one of my very favorite teachers. She had really awesome lectures that really made you think and test what knowledge and understanding you have. You do need to attend her class but youll want to because of her discussions and ideas. I certainly recommend her.
Ananda's passion for philosophy and teaching is so so so apparent in her lectures and feedback. Also just a seriously kind and understanding professor. She provided a PDF of the textbook which makes a huge difference considering how expensive they normally are. Highly recommend Ananda's class!!
Professor Spike is an amazing teacher who truly cares about the classes that she teaches. You can tell by the depth of the lectures and discussions. Homework was light with 1 or 2 reading assignments a week, 3 papers, and a lot of in class participation. She does offer a lot of chances for extra credit. I would love to take more of her classes.
Professor Spike is amazing. Her class is mostly based on discussion. She is super caring and understandable. The workload is very reasonable and helpful to the students. She also has a lot of passion for the material. Her papers(I had 3 for the semester) are flexible and totally up to you because she just gives you a big topic which you can choose.
great professor and so passionate about philosophy which makes learning much more enjoyable. She plays relevant videos and clips of movies that explain philosophical topics from different perspectives and I thought that was really amazing! My only critique is that she is alway changes assignments & due dates so you have to constantly check canvas.
Ananda is a great professor. You can tell she really cares about her students. I felt that the homework load was reasonable, her lectures were interesting and that I actually learned in her class. Again, great professor.
Ananda has been one of my favorite professors I've ever had! Her workload was a normal amount, as long as you stayed on top of homework assignments, reading, and showed up to class you were sure to get an A. You could tell she really cared about her students and was very understanding about everything!
I really enjoyed this class and Professor Spike. Although attendance was mandatory to pass the class, I found the lectures interesting and the homework was interesting and for the most part very east to complete. Participation matters as well so be prepared to share if you take this class. If this doesn't bother you, I highly recommend this class
I enjoyed being in this professors class. Her lectures were awesome. B on time because she does these write ups in class & can't be made up because it counts for participation. Make sure to do the papers and actually try with the homework she notices when you take time on answering the questions on the homework assignments & give u extra credit!
Although I took the class for credit, I chose philosophy for personal interest as well. Ananda Spyke is top-notch and makes it worth taking this course. Her other course I would not take on purpose or for personal interest, but I would definitely think about taking them just because she is the instructor.
She is very on top of things! She sends your out reminders of assignments and upcoming assignments, you can tell she cares through her messages. You do have to put in the effort and hard work but, if you do then you will be fine. I loved this class, she is a great teacher I learned so much even though this was an online course! I'd recommend her.
I would totally take any class with her again. This teacher is awesome she always sends reminders of what is due and also gives you plenty of time to turn in assignments. She is AWESOME!
What are you waiting for!! take her class! Best professor I have ever had, I will be taking her Ethics class as well. There is a bit of homework, but its pretty easy as long as you show up to class, do the work, you pass! She really loves what she does and really cares for her students. Hands down, you will NOT regret taking her class! good luck!
Ananda is super nice and she's always very respectful to students. You have to do the reading and the homework and it gets longer as the semester goes on, but I found the textbook easy to understand and fun to read. She extends due dates a lot so watch out for that. Sometimes her lectures are a bit boring, but you still learn from it.
Without a doubt 1 of the most worthwhile & awe-inspiring classes & professors I have ever taken. Ananda has an incredible way of teaching that truly portrays her passion and deep interest for philosophy. She has a special way of explaining things from all perspectives and wants her students to think for themselves. She cares and is willing to help!
Second time having Ananda. She is absolutely incredible. Social Ethics with her was so amazing and i learned so much from her. She is never biased and gives you so much information. you may think you have your ethics and opinions firm, but she may end up changing your mind. ABSOLUTELY TAKE THIS CLASS OR ANY CLASS FROM HER!!!
Ananda is amazing! If you want a great humanities instructor, take her! You do have to show up to class and do the huge amount of homework, but it is all doable. The homework makes you think and helps you be a better person.
She's very knowledgeable about her field.. Can be a bit mean tho. My class had a rough time catching up with all her HW. We probably had like 5 or 6 things due every week, which I thought were pretty unreasonable for an intro class. Had like 2 huge papers and the min were 4 or 5 pages. I don't recommend her class if you tend to procrastinate.
Ananda is one of the wisest people I have ever met. She loves knowledge and always has something thought-provoking to add to a conversation. She will make you question everything you know and it will be life-changing. I just signed up her world religions class and wish I could take every class that she teaches.
This was one of the best classes I have taken so far. She is such such an amazing professor who is truly passionate about what she is teaching you. All of our lectures went into such interesting details and each student was able to voice what they thought about the topic. If you are looking to take a Humanities class, I would recommend this one.
Lots and Lots of homework, but easy grading and easy class overall. Great insights and good presentation of material- I learned a lot from her! Plenty of extra credit assignments makes it easy to get an A.
She's an amazing professor is really passionate about her class and made the lectures really interesting that it made you realize that time went by so fast! She cares about the students! There is papers that can be long but there's only like 3 that will be long so it wasn't that bad! Homework was easy! I would def. take another class of hers!
She does not have consideration for her students. Don't expect her to help you if you have a problem with your homework, you need to follow her guidelines perfectly or you will not get your work graded.
I am so grateful to have had such a great Philosophy professor. I was nervous to take this course online, but it went really well, especially under pandemic circumstances. She worked with me and I felt she really wanted me to succeed. Read, stay on top of assignments and communicate and you will do just fine! She cares about her students.
As long as you do the work, you'll be fine. There is a lot of extra credit which makes it very possible to get a good grade.
Ananda Spike is a good teacher, especially for an online class. She will communicate with you whenever you need her to, and she is very interactive with the students, even in an online setting. She gives you LOTS of homework though... I struggled to keep up with her class and my others during the summer semester. Overall, I had a good experience.
Ananda is one of the best professors I have ever had. Fascinating lectures! She shares interesting stories of people making philosophical life choices & film clips that teach phil. concepts. She knows the topic well. Assignments are designed to make you dig deep. Well worth the time. Fair grader, gives ex credit. Responds quickly to emails. Cares!
This class was one of my favorites I have taken so far. It is so interesting and she gives you so many opportunities for real world application. You would also have to physically attempt to not pass this class, she gives constant canvas updates on due dates, extends due dates all the time, and gives so much extra credit. Take this class! I promise!
Ananda is a great professor and lecturer. If you take her online class, attend her review sessions! In the lectures, she engages with students and really helps you understand the material. Homework/quizzes every week and about 5 papers to write, which is a lot, but she provides tons of extra credit opportunities. There were no tests/exams.
Gret teacher, open-minded, that's really important. I didn't feel any bigotry or negativity from her teachings. She was precise, let us answer our own questions, helped us critically think of what we were observing. Lots of movies for the sake of perception and understanding. The research was done a lot on the different topics we spoke about
Really like this professor! She definitely knows her stuff and did a great job of creating a judgement-free zone for discussing controversial topics. It felt like there was tons of homework/papers/discussion boards, but she offers tons of extra credit! As long as you complete everything you'll earn an A.
Ananda created an incredible environment for my class to approach controversial topics and feel heard while learning. I honestly wish I could take this class each semester because I think I would learn something new every time. You're expected to participate in group settings but she gives clear instructions on what to talk about. Best teacher ever
This was a great class. Hard topics to think through but class discussions were interesting and insightful. Ananda has assignments clearly listed and pays attention to the flow of work to make sure that it isn't piling up too much. I would definitely recommend this class.
Ananda was truly one of the best professors I've ever had!! She's passionate about the subjects she teaches about and uses all sorts of different angles to her teachings, which helped all the information stick in my brain. This is the most amazing class I've ever taken and it is very eye-opening. Very valuable. I highly suggest taking this class!
This is the second class I've taken from Ananda and she continues to be my favorite teacher. She clearly cares about the subject she teaches and creates an incredible environment that promotes individual thought. I've never been surprised by a grade and think that she grades fairly. Tons of extra credit opportunities and break-out groups in class.
I took Ananda's social ethics class, and it was one of my favorites. She gracefully facilitated great discussions regarding some very difficult topics w/ much room for everyone to think for themselves, so much so she never let her own views seep through any of the course material. expect quizzes, discussions, 2 papers +SO MUCH Extra credit options.
This is my 2nd class with prof Spike. She does a damn good job at facilitating thought, but you must be willing to think deeply about the material, if you plan on being lazy and not wanting to engage, don't bother. She allows late work and so many extra credit opportunities, you're bound to succeed if you make an effort. highly recommend this prof!
Ananda was my favorite professor this semester. She is amazing and all the group discussions we have are really interesting. She is very nice and loves teaching and it shows. Just make sure you participate...
PLEASE TAKE HER!! Ananda is one of the best professors Ive ever had and she deserves much more appreciation than she gets. She genuinely cares about her students and the conversations we had in class were incredible. I dont even have words for her, Ananda is just one of a kind. Love her so much!!
An amazing teacher. During discussions, she respects everyone's thoughts. A lot of extra credit, very easy to get above an A. Make sure you participate to get something out of the class.
Amazing person. Open-minded and very supportive. Lots of extra credit assignments. would recommend and would take again.
Very engaging professor. She has an outstanding way of organizing class and stays on top of grading. Be ready for in-class and online discussions, plus a fair amount of homework. But there are also plenty of chances for extra-credit. The lectures were very informative, and the slides used were posted in canvas afterwards. I really recommend her!
I really liked Ananda. She is very nice and open-minded. She is an easy grader and provides lots of extra credit. There is no final but she was a little heavy on the homework. If you don't like being called on I wouldn't recommend taking this class because she calls on everyone to share their opinion on topics in front of the class.
Loved this Professor! I wont lie I lost motivation throughout the semester but having Ms. Ananda helped so much because she was super lenient with the due dates. I would definitely take this class again! I look forward to taking other classes taught by her!
While she gets sidetracked at times, this professor knows her material very well, as well as how to teach it. Those who put in effort are rewarded with extra credit, though the homework load can be a bit much at times.
I transferred into Ananda's class where she was making an active effort to engage with students and memorize everybody's name. I felt really respected and like she wanted me to succeed. She seems to always be making an effort to improve and learn. If I had the chance I'd absolutely take more classes from her.
Very flexible with deadlines, but WAAAAAY too much busy work. A lot assignments literally repeat questions verbatim. 2 discussion board (400 words each) and 2 HW assignments weekly (800-1200 words each). It's just way too much for an online class. I ended up copy pasting some of my answers and still got a good grade, proving it is busy work.
First off, her class is a mess. By far the worst organization of canvas I've ever experienced. She makes it so difficult to understand what needs to be done and when it's due. How do you mess up something that simple? Idk. I think she is passionate about teaching, but that doesn't mean anything if students are confused and drowning in busy work.
I would like to say that I don't grade my professor except if they are really bad. This is the case with Ananda. Her class is full of discussions and lots of homework. It frustrates me the most that she is very unprofessional, she changes deadlines and assignments. I would like to tell you don't get fooled by the reviews and avoid her at all costs!
I wish my schedule was more conducive to showing up for more regularly scheduled class time. This professor not only has the subject matter at her fingertips, she is an inspirational thought provoker of rare talent. She was able to Captivate my imagination quite thoroughly. Her class and the subject material presented was a welcome breath of fresh air
Professor Spike is fantastic! There was a bit of homework, but each assignment was helpful in understanding the material. She awards extra credit if you do a good job on your work. As long as you do the work and attend most of the classes, you'll easily end the course with over 100%. She's both caring & accommodating, I really enjoyed her class!
Professor Spike is delightful to be around in the classroom; she genuinely loves class discussions and getting her students to think critically. The only downside to this professor is her organization on canvas and the massive amount of busy work. I feel like I answered the same questions over and over, it can become mind-numbing very fast.
This professor is amazing at what she does. She is passionate and clearly knows exactly what she is doing. You wont want to miss a single lecture because in every single on you will learn something new about yourself.
Professor Spike was awesome to have conversations with about topics in class and outside of it. She clearly cares about getting her students not just to memorize the material of the class but to discuss and think on every subject given to enrich each students' thinking and life.
Ananda Spike is a good professor that cares about her students and philosophy. There was a lot of long reading chapters and assignments, but that is because she really does want you to learn all you can about philosophy. I would recommend her and her classes!
Ananda, was a great instructor. She was informative and asked a lot of great questions to get us to use critical thinking and logic. I really enjoyed this class. She offered extra credit and the assignments were easy. She introduced new technology to class for surveys, communication and tests, which were helpful. Loved this class and instructor.
The content was great, but the execution of teaching left a lot to be desired. I've never had a professor that was so disorganized. Discussions were assigned where we had not yet gone over the material. This class is mostly (tons of) discussion participation and quizzes. Due dates were frequently changed so it made it hard keep track of anything.
The professor obviously wants her students to succeed & the content is great but the way things were handled was horrendous enough to where I just couldn't function in the class. Online material was a joke, way too many extraneous apps involved (some of which you have to pay for), & assignments often delayed or canceled for one reason or another.
Great course. Great teacher
Amazing professor would take this course again.
Ananda is such a great professor and philosopher! She is so kind and respectful to students. She gives engaging and insightful lectures/class discussions. Ananda doesn't just lecture, she interacts with each student. All of my peers were seen and heard this semester. I learned so much. This class was a life-changer! Thank you Ananda!
Absolutely love this professor! This class was actually my first choice and first class here at slcc and it turned out amazing. She's so understanding and such a supporting professor, I enjoyed both her and this class!
Professor Spike puts so much care and effort into her teaching and her students, and it shows! Her goal of the class is truly to inspire her students and she's willing to go through great lengths to help everyone succeed. She provides extra credit for good work and is always quick to respond to emails to work things out. Absolutely fantastic!
Professor Spike was one of the most understanding professors that I have had the chance to learn from during my time at SLCC. As long as you show up to class, participate in in-class discussions, and do the work that is required of you, passing will not be a stranger to you. If you do fall behind due to anything, PLEASE REACH OUT EARLY.
Ananda's lectures were interesting and engaging although due to the many canceled classes (all of which were due to entirely understandable reasons,), she was not able to cover all the lessons or topics, many were missed. There was an online material that we needed to pay for which I wasn't a fan of, it felt very needless. But I loved the class!
The class was pretty good. Class tended to be discussion focused rather than sit and be lectured. Only real problem was the textbook readings assigned each week were fairly sizeable and staying up to date with them could be near impossible at times.
Professor Spike did a great job at going over the course material in a way that was both engaging and enlightening. This was one of the few classes where I felt excited to attend the lectures.
Professor Spike was a good teacher. She was very organized and very lenient. If you had any problems, she was willing to help you out no matter what. The only negative thing I have to say is that there was tons of homework, which you have to stay on top of. At the end she offers several extra credit assignments which helps a lot. I recommend her.
I had high hopes for this class, but was sorely disappointed You can tell that she loves what she does and cares about her students. But this class was intensely disorganized and had unexpected due date changes, new assignments showed up randomly, and movies were her lecture content. This course was a waste of time, lots of busy work. Good luck.
I really like Ananda she is an amazing human being. However, I felt her class was too much too fast. Multiple assignments per week, she is flexible with due dates and offers extra credit. I do think it can be an overwhelming class with a big workload.
This course has a lot of homework, but if you stay caught up you will be fine. The final is a Kahoot and there are two papers that you have to write. Overall an easy course and a good teacher.
Ananda is super nice and you can tell she loves philosophy. She hands out so much work though, a lot of the assignments are repetative. She grades attendance even if you miss for a valid reason. She does pull up with snacks though so thats blessed.
Ananda is the best!!! She is very passionate about philosophy and her work as a teacher. I loved how she handled students, constantly checking on them and always making the class a safe and friendly environment. Keeping up with assignments is important and attendance matters. So far my favorite professor at SLCC!
Overall, it is a class that makes your brain hurt. So, get ready to read A LOT. It's not so bad because she offers a lot of extra credit so do the best you can in this class and get over a 100%
I love Ananda! She was so understanding and caring with all her students. Every class was prepared and had a great lecture, she gave great information and showed amazing materials!
Awesome teacher! Her lectures are very well done and actually engaging. There is quite a bit of homework but deadlines are reasonable (and often get pushed back) and they don't take too long to do, like 15-30mins per assignment. Lots of extra credit opportunity. If you put in slight effort you'll get an A+. Plus she brings snacks :)
This was one of the best classes I have taken during my time at SLCC. Professor Spike really knows what she's talking about. She makes class engaging and gives great insight into difficult topics. Class discussions always make you think and if you participate you will be fine. Lots of extra credit opportunities and snacks too!
This is not a class for procrastinators. It is extremely homework-heavy: weekly readings, weekly discussions, and you are required to make study guides for each chapter. Ananda is incredibly kind, approachable, and wants you to succeed. The topics discussed are very interesting too. Just don't let yourself get behind.
Professor Spike has not been understanding at all.
Professor Spike has been my best professor at SLCC so far. She is very caring for her students and even does check ins to make sure they are well. She is also very clear with her assignments and gives constant reminders as to when they are due. Attendance does matter, but it is very worth it since we have lots of discussions with peers.
She cares about each of her students so so much. There is a lot of work to do but it is all super easy and each assignment takes 15-30 minutes tops. This class is totally worth it for the credit. It's busy and requires participation but is incredibly easy!
Professor Ananda Spike is a really caring and passionate teacher. Her lectures are always so engaging and informative. She is always so willing to listen to her students thoughts and opinions on what she is lecturing about. She definitely makes it fun to come to class and discuss philosophy. Honestly one of my favorite classes and professors.
Professor Ananda Spike is an AMAZING teacher. She cares so deeply about her student and only wants the best for them! She brings in real world experience and scenarios that makes it really easy to understand this class. She is a teacher that actually makes school fun and enjoyable, I highly recommend taking her class!
I took this class at a difficult time in my life. I appreciate this instructor cared about my situation. She does three or so personal check in assignments, totally optional, but shows she cares.
This class is a challenge, but Professor Spike makes it engaging and rewarding. Attendance is a must, but the workload is manageable. Unstuckstudy and the free textbook were huge helps in preparing for exams. Overall, a great class to take.
