Great Class and Great Teacher!

THIS WAS DEFINITELY MY FAVORITE CLASS. IT WAS MORE THAN JUST TALKING ABOUT THE PHILOSOPHERS WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT WE FEEL ABOUT PERSONAL ISSUES, AND OFTEN HAD HEATED DEBATES IN CLASS. THIS CLASS WAS DEFINITELY EASY I GOT AN A, JUST MAKE SURE YOU GO

Ananda, is an awesome professor. She not only knows her stuff but allows class discussion on all topics. So easy to get an A in her class! Super nice and funny too! Take her class!!! A lot of movie clips and current media/clips are shown.

Great professor. With a lot of the professors at City College, it's hard to know when you are expected to do. Professor Spike lists everything on her website and makes clear in class what she expects. Good discussions and multimedia incorporated into class. There is a lot of focus on formatting but its not without reason. Disregard comment below.

Great Professor, had so much fun her class. Very understanding and helpfull. Great teaching tools and demonstrations. Very detail in want she wants from the students. Strongly recomend her to anyone interested in Philosophy World Religions.

She was nothing but helpful during the whole class. Stayed on topic almost the whole semester, only went off topic when there was a good conversation going and she did her best to keep the class under control. I would say the class was fairly easy just do the work an you will do fine. Show up to the class and you will do fine.

Loved loved LOVED her class! One of my favorite teachers hands down! She definitely kept things interesting with the class discussions and films we watched and it wasn't hard to pass. Just show up and do the work. The topics get confusing but she's always there to help you if you need it. I highly recommend taking this class. Thanks Ananda!!

She's absolutely great. Passionate, engaging, and her different ways of presenting concepts--everything from movies to Youtube videos of cats freaking out over their reflections--are much better for keeping things interesting than dry lectures would be. Definitely taking more of her classes in future.

she's great. i've taken 2 classes with her so far, and going on my 3rd. book is heavily used, but as long as you do the work, you'll do great. you can use a notecard on all of your tests. a bunch of extra credit, so nearly impossible to fail. do show up because attendance counts

This teacher is totally chill. The class was really objective. We knew everything were to do for the "A". She is fair, and includes everyone. She shows awesome movies, and is very interesting to listen to..

Excellent professor, really enthusiastic about teaching. Some topics are hard to understand, but she will explain them. Show up to class and do the pointless journals that are only based off of what you think and not what you read and you'll get an A. Movies are a plus, lots of extra credit available.

Excellent discussion topics. And made earning e.c. and doing class lectures fun and interactive.

An amazing teacher. If you fail it's your own fault, Ananda is sooooper. I can't say enough about her.

She is outgoing and super! Her class is super easy if you do the work, plenty of extra credit and chances to raise your grade up. I got an A+ so yea super easy and fun discussions, overall good philosophy teacher. Highly recommed!

She is really interested in her subject and her students ideas about it. Great rapport with the class. Always prepared.

good teacher

I wasn't quite sure what to expect coming into class, and I thought it was total bs when people said it changed your life... but it's true it changed my perspective in everything. I loved the class!!! And I think Prof. Spike made it even better. She's easy to relate to in more ways than one and you can tell that she teaches straight from the heart.

Great professor. You will do great in this class as long as you do your work and pay attention in class, make sure to attend, discussions are always enjoyable, although you may not like what everyone says. A lot of extra credit opportunities, although you really wont need it if you do your work, and participate a little.I recommend this class!

I took this class because I had to and I thought it was going to be a waste of time, but it wasn?t. I absolutely loved this class and the teacher. She is really passionate about the material, and class discussions are the best. You watch lots of films from a different perspective. Overall an easy class if you attended to class and do all the work.

Ananda is very approachable, extremely passionate about philosophy... as well as life in general. The class material allows everyone to dig deep within themselves and I highly recommend this class to anyone who is thoughtful and enjoys ambiguity. Attendance is mandatory but class goes by fast, and is not dull, as a plus the movies are great!

AMAZING. I thought the comments stating that "this class will change your life" was total bull, but boy was I wrong. From the first day, you'll start to see things in a different perspective. The movie clips help connect a lot of ideas, and the lectures go by quick. The only downside is the journals. They blow. But keep up with them! They pay off.

Ananda will incite the class room to a frenzy of philosophical discussion in about 6 seconds. Her class will challenge your sensitive view points. When discussing religious sexual preference and woman's rights you are going to find people that disagree with you. I guarantee this class will keep you attentive and eager.

Professor Spike is very diligent in her teaching and her diction is beyond measure.

I loved philosophy, this class has really impacted my life and made me think about stuff i never really gave much thought too. Ananda is a great professor, she is laid back and organized and prepared. Just don't talk during class and always participate and do you work, and this class is never boring. She is a great teacher, i recommend her.

Ananda knows her stuff and she is very enthusiastic. She likes to show movies in class. Most of her movies are pretty relevant, but some are cheesy and irrelevant. The class discussions are often fascinating and engaging. Overall, Ananda's class was very enjoyable.

Sheis the most amazing teacher i have ever meet. Im am glad and honored to be a student in her class. I have learned so much and i have applied her valuable teachings to my life. She greatly improved my critical thinking skills and most importantly she has impacted my college experience at city college. I am loking forward taking her spring class!

professor spike is so great!!she knows her stuff and has so much interest in both the subject and the student!never in my life did i imagine philosophy could be so fun, but she made it fun! plus i got my first A+ at city thanks to her!

Professor Spike is cool. You must attend class and do the work. Class participation is expected and following the rules. Professor Spike gives you all the tools needed to pass this class and receive and "A". The "A" is not easy you must work for it but the work if you study is not hard at all. Makes Critical Thinking easy with explainations.

Great Class, amazing discussion, time flies...

Prof. Spike is awesome! She loves her subject and really cares about her students. She bends over backwards to help her students succeed in her class. This being said, you still need to do your homework and come to class - it's not a "free ride." She teaches thru diff medias and keeps things interesting. Fun class discussions, too! She's great!

She was good professor she went over all material. posted ever thing you need to do a head of time.There know reason you should not pass her class. and she teaches it well.I enjoyed her as a teacher i learn things I had no clue about.

Changed my life perspective!

She somehow turned a normally dry, boring class into a fun, interesting, really educational one. She is very organized, approachable, and helpful. She really knows what she's doing. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE HER CLASSES!!

Professor Spike is a very rare kind of instructor. She really is an expert in her field. She uses all kinds of media to reach her students and very organized. She makes the material fun to learn. You just have to come to class, as in every class of course, and turn in every homework and you're set! MAKE SURE YOU TAKE HER CLASSES!! SHE'S AWESOME :p

Another amazing semester with Ananda. Her ethics class is awesome but due to time constraint and the lengthiness of our class discussions, some of the issues had to be covered in smaller amounts of time. There are not a lot of text but when there are, BE PREPARED. She is extremely helpful, extremely organized, and extremely patient. LOVE HER!

Ananda (don't call her Mrs. Spike, lol) is nothing short of AWESOME. This was my 2nd class w/her. Attendance is required...but you'll actually WANT to come to class. It change my view on life issues! MUST TAKE Ethics w/Ananda! Tests are simple you get to use a 5x7 card. Constant progress reports, allows plenty of class discussions on current events

Ananda is a GREAT professor! Yes attendance is mandatory but class discussions are so interesting you will not want to miss out! Definitely take this teacher... I know I will be again!

Ananda has the drive of a jackhammer. Whether you're majoring in philosophy or just need the class for general ed, she'll help you understand the material provided you are even slightly interested. She spends a lot of time facilitating healthy debates in the course, rather than preaching abstract theory. If at all interested in ethics, take Ananda.

Ananda is an amazing teacher. I would recommend her to anyone, by far the best Philosophy teacher I've encountered at City College. Do your readings, participate in discussions, and you will do well. She respects attendance and class participation. I will definetly be taking another one of her classes.

She's not that bad. Granted the class was boring only because of the subject but she does try her best to keep it as worthwhile as possible. It's true that there are instructors out there who enjoy teaching but she loves what she does. Her class isn't hard...if you do all of the work.

FYI: Call her Ananda, not Mrs. Spike. She's amazing, her class is that type of class that allows you to learn something without actually hurting your brain!! The material is dull, but she actually makes this class fun. I definitely would recommend her!! I'm taking her ethics class definitely in the Fall '11 :)

At first she seemed like any other teacher, but as the semester went on I became more and more interested in the topic.... do the work, show up, partcipate and this class is an easy A, and will open up how you view the world. Great class, def recommend her to anyone.

this is an essay class. all you have to do is do your homework and do the class work. there is homework but the homework is very easy it is mainly your opinion. the test are very easy also. i definitly recommend her. i took her last semester and i am taking her next semester too. this is a fun class

Mrs Ananda Spike is very intelligent, informed, and enthusiastic professor. She keeps you interested by using a variety of fun and interesting teaching methods. She solicits input and opinions from her students. Her class was a joy to attend...I looked forward to her class every week!

Ananda is fantastic! She is so passionate about philosophy and makes the class fun. I took a night class in the summer that was over 2 hours long and it passed so quickly because of her! If you get the chance take her class!

Ananda was awesome. After my last philosophy class I kind of lost interest in the subject but she redeemed it. She interacts with her students that made even a 4 hour class interesting. Very helpful and just fun in general to have her as an instructor.

Ananda was one of my favorite professors. She is very informative and explains the material thoroughly so that the students understand what is going on in the class,and when she has to update any material she emails us very often for reminders or just to keep us up to date. responds quick to emails, and very passionate!!!! take this course

this is a professor that cares and came to teach. I've had one or two profs that looked liked they were there to collect a check. Ananda Spike really restored my faith in instructors. she is clear and fair. she really earns her check by teaching the subject to the letter. if you want to learn and master how to write an argumentative ppr,she is it.

This was by far my favorite and most interesting class in my first year of college so far. Ananda has a real passion for philosophy , and she makes it interesting with life examples, and quotes that make you think beyond a certain mind-set. She was an awesome teacher :)

She's amazing. She gives you reasonable work, hwk, tests. She's very friendly and accomodating. A treasure to have as a professor.

She is a very good professor! Makes the material fun and engaging! After taking her my awareness of the news and what is going on in the world heightened, which I think is great. All you have to do to get an A is do the work. Plain and simple. Oh and there is a lot of extra credit room. TAKE HER CLASS, you won't regret it.

Outstanding professor: I found her to be very knowledgable and willing to share that knowledge and how to recognize philosopy concepts in the movies that we watch. She truely cares about people.

Very passionate teacher. A lot of things to learn [especially during the summer], but she manages to teach us what needs to be learned in a variety of ways. Heavy writing, but it's manageable and very open to personal responses. Exams are easy as long as you go through the study guides. You feel very comfortable to take this class.

Very cool professor and outstanding teaching methods. Got me to think about subjects that seemed abstract and foreign. I would take another one of her classes in a minute.

It was an awesome class! The movies were interesting and related to the material very well. Its alot of writing but not hard writing just really insightful. You get to learn alot about yourself too.

Amazing class&better yet AMAZING PROFESSOR.I took this class during the Summer and I always looked forward for this class because it was interactive and best yet we watched movies to understand topics.HW was very CLEAR& assigned on the weekend which helped a lot.Ananda is a young professor wants you to pass her class.Easy A if you do the easy work.

She goes above and beyond in providing resources to help every student succeed. She truly is a professor not to miss!

Ananda is a wonderful example of what every educator should be. Extremely devoted and passionate in her field, she makes every effort to get students engaged in the material and voice their own thoughts and opinions in class. It's apparent she invests much time and energy into her profession. Her mother, Sonia, who helps her, is also wonderful.

Fun class and very interesting, I'm a science major and found it interesting. The class requires a bunch of papers and write ups. It takes time from other classes so make sure you have the time to put in the work.

Kewl teacher Wh has a passionate for her philosophy class. She is smart and funny. She makes me want to go to her philosophy class with a good motivation. I learned way too much in her class and she just makes class into a fun environment to be in. Ima miss her philosophy class

The thing that struck me about Ananda is her infectious energy! She moves around the room a lot and involves the entire class in discussion. As a first time phil. student some of the concepts were challenging, but she made the subject fascinating and I'm taking my 2nd phil class now. I'm sad I moved and couldn't take it with her, she was great.

She is super awesome I wish I had another class to fit in my schedule with her, but unfortunately I could not fir it in. She makes you really come out of your shell and think critically.

best philosophy teacher ive ever had, she really helps you out and makes it easy to understand the textbook and is very easygoing and nice all around. if you have to take a philosophy course definitely try to get into one of her classes itll make your philosophy course experience a lot of fun

This is the second class I take with Ananda. I took 102A last semester. I just gotta say that the community college district is very fortunate to have her. She should be a at a higher institution.

Professor Spike teaches with an incredible consistency that enables the class material to be taught accurately and fluently. With an emphasis on student interpretation her class requires critical thought and analysis of personal, social, and moral issues. Thus creating an engaging environment from which the fundamentals of philosophy can thrive.

I Loved her class. She kept class interesting there was never a boring moment. There is a heavy work load but it is well worth it. Ananda cares about her students she will try her very best to make sure her students succeed in her class. She is very passionate about teaching. Her class will change give you great prospective!!!!!!!

I thought I was going to hate her class, but I actually love it!!! She's very helpful and she explains the material well. Oh and we have group discussions. they are very, VERY helpful. TAKE HER CLASS! you won't regret it! (:

Professor Spike is professional,diligent and have an innate clarity in her delineation of material; she is a motivator who makes subject matter translucent and incredibly interesting.

One of the best classes I have ever taken in my college years

She is a great professor and knows what shes doing. She teaches the material and teaches it to students with passion that is on of a kind. Just on her lectures alone I learned many things that could be easily remembered for future reference on assignments. More than enough clarity on this subject. Prepares you for other philosophy classes.

I heavily recommend this prof. She is interesting, fun, and passionate. There is a lot to learn, but the material she presents is never overwhelming. The assignments are not too hard and she even offers extra credit. Take one of her classes, you won't regret it. Just be sure to put in the time and effort. You'll be rewarded with a great grade.

Philosophy 102B with Ananda was a great class. There is a good amount of work but it keeps you into the class discussion. There was a lot of interesting hard hitting topics to talk about. Do your work and put some thoughts into your answers and you can get an A. Take this class or another by her this is a teacher to take.

Absolutely my best class to date! You will have plenty of work to work on, but it is all engaging and really makes you think (in a good way). Ananda is one of the most devoted teachers I have ever met. Truly an inspiring Professor. She excepts all points of view and never judges. It is what made the class so comfortable. Loved her last semester taking 102A but even more so this semester taking 102B. I struggled a bit this semester with working graveyard shifts but Ananda was very understanding an helped me as much as she could get through the sem:D wish I could take her again:)

Every time you step foot into class with Ananda you will be enlighten. You will no longer see the world like you have before. Philosophy is a beautiful discipline and Ananda will exercise your mind unlike you have ever done before.

THE GOOD: she really loves teaching and class goes by pretty quickly. Also she posts interesting articles on facebook if you decide to add her (she mentions adding her in class). THE BAD: she should probably keep the facebook stuff strictly to interesting articles and not personal stuff.

Professor Ananda has perfect diction which helps us to understand the lesson she explain. All students have a great time learning, participating in discussions and class assignments. She's focused and dedicated to teaching.

This class is very intriguing and very well put together. She is an excellent teacher that is highly respected the first day. She may seem very strict at first but she is not she can teach the material like no other and best way to get your Philsophy on is to go through it with her.

I absolutely love this class one because its philosophy but mostly because professor spike spring was my first semester in college ans she made that experience great. I recommend this class 100%. Theres no Time to think about taking another class with her its a must.

This teacher provided an interesting class. Although each class was 3 hours long, her teaching style made the class fun and interesting. She is very personable, friendly, and interactive. Boring lectures are foreign to this class. I am looking forward towards taking more classes with this teacher.

Fun, informative, interactive class. Ended up being one of those classes i dreaded missing. Professor Spike works hard and passionately to teach her students and you'll get a good grade if you return the same effort. She has inspired me to do well in life beyond just pages in a text book.

Interesting subject matter and friendly, engaging teaching style. A lot of movies and powerpoint to reference text material to. Quite a bit of writing and she's very particular about what she's looking for; keep up with the journals & papers, participate in class and you'll do great!

Ananda is such a great professor, I took her twice! She puts a ton of effort into her classes and expects the same from her students. Unfortunately, this semester, there are people that consistently talk every single class and she has to tell them to be quiet EVERY CLASS! I'm pretty sure it's the person two posts down. Best professor I've ever had. A class that I actually looked forward to. Ananda's way of teaching is interactive and the class helps you find yourself while learning at the same time. She is fun yet professional and is a very easy person to talk to. If you have the option to take this class, do it!

Ananda's class is the best I've taken so far! Class is easy, just attend and put in the work. I will definitely be taking her 102 classes. She's passionate and makes the classroom environment a place to voice your opinions and also see everyone else's perspective. The things you learn in her class last a lifetime. Too easy, didn't learn anything but commen sense and some regurtitation from the media followed by a shallow discussion. This class was the easiest A of my life because the professor is not meant for college

Ananda is a superb teacher with a great attitude and is always willing to help. She responds quickly to any questions and as long as you put in the work, you will have no problem getting a good her class. I hope to take another Philosophy class with her in the future. Our discussions were engaging and very interesting. I loved going to class!

This class was awesome!The topics that the professor brought up in class were very interesting.She provides many resources for you to gain a full understanding ranging from powerpoints,news articles,related videos,and much more.There is no reason to not pass the class with a good grade.The professor is a truly inspiring person,Great personality.

We all reach a breaking point at times, the trick is to "stay the course".... if you leave your replacement may not be passionate to us.

BEST professor I ever had, I only wish I had to do more Philosophy for my major, but sadly, I don't. If I did though, I would ABSOLUTELY take her class again. I made top student in her class along with an older woman in the class, we tied for outstanding student. Love this professor, so helpful and clear on the subject. STRONGLY RECOMMEND.

l took her philosophy and mythology classes (repeating a teacher is always a good sign). good teacher. probably the best l've ever had, and l don't know of anyone who disliked her. actually cares about what her students have to say. you will get an A if you pay attention. it's easy and you actually learn from it. all classes should be like that

Easy A. She is a great teacher, lot's of extra credit available, fun movies. Come to class and you will pass. Got 100% in the class and a reward for a high grade yet I was on my phone blatantly in class 24/7. Good class none the less. Never read the textbook
