Have to read the book. He is funny.
If you pay attention and go to class not to hard
Great alternative class for finance majors.
Pooring, no not ask questions will not answer just works around them. Exams are diffclut, every possible anwser is there.
READ THE BOOK! CLASS IS BORING AND NOTHING IS GAINED BY GOING AT ALL! TESTS ARE DIFFICULT! CHOICES = a,b,c A and B, B and C or all of the above...HORRIBLE!, but there is a nice curve!
The worst professor in the world, doesn't teach a thing, can't understand him. Doesn't try to be helpful. Doesn't answer questions directly, goes around the point, but never actually hits it. Quizzes are hard, all answers sound the same.
This class is so confusing. His notes don't makes sense. He is very unhelpful!
easy teacher. Notes follow book directly. If you read book two hours before eahc exam no trouble getting 3.6 or above. The curve on exams is amazing.
Hardest teacher for econ, got a 2.6 in class for macro and in micro with someone else I got a 4.0 and studied less for micro. Tests are impossible questions all possible answers.
If you do your homework i.e. READ THE BOOK the class is EASY. The tests won't be hard and if you ask him a question he'll take time to answer them. IF YOU HAD TROUBLE IN THIS CLASS YOU DIDN'T TRY.
Tests are tricky. Just because they're multiple choice doesn't make them easy. Final exam is cumulative. Professor is hard to understand sometimes. He uses "this" and "that" too much, and you're not sure what "this" or &q
I think he is a great teacher. Even if you do not do well in his class he still makes it possible to pass his class with atleast a 2.7. He is a much better professor than Izraele? He intergrates fun projects into the curriculum.
don't take this professor. he's lecture notes don't match the exam. unclear on lectures in class. if you read and study the study guide you still may not pass the exams. he's not a good professor.
Professor Sahu is the man. I got a 2.7 and barely did anything. His quizzes are based more on the lectures and the people ****ing about him are probably the ones who don't show up to his class ever. Just show up to his lectures and you're str8.
He is alright, very funny and tries to help us, but he goes really fast, especially when he is trying to cover a whole chapter within ten minutes til the end of class. Talks to fast for sure with his Indian accent, which isnt too terrible after all.
Do NOT take this man, unless you want to fail. LOL. Seriously, he makes the subject harder than it has to be.
Rather hard and unclear.
Has a good sense of humor, tests are tricky and confusing. If you read your book you don't have to go to all the lectures, and you have to read wall street journal
Unless you really like economics do not take Professor Sahu... He is really boring and gives out way too many tests which are really hard and confusing because he isn't straight forward about anything he says
I took this class during the Summer of 2003. He does quiz often and shows material in the class that are on the quizzes. If you miss the class you will have no chance at answering about 4 or 5 questions on the exam, sometimes you can guess. I got a 3.6.
He made the class so easy, and people still complained. If you get less then a 3.0 in his class, you shouldn't be in college. There were 6 exams and the final wasnt even cumulative. We only covered 13 chapters. Easy as pie
Sahu was great. He was really funny and tried to help you understand the material as best as possible. He was a little hard to understand and some of the test questions were ambiguous. Come to class and you'll do well, probably not 4.0 well but at least a 3.0.
funny guy, hard class. it you are good at taking tests than this is the class for you, if not you will not do well at all.
No homework but study for the tests.
AVOID THIS CLASS!!IM AN "A" STUDENT AND THIS CLASS MESSED UP MY GPA. STUDIED COUNTLESS HOURS AND CANT DO WELL ON THE TESTS! THE TESTS ARE NOT STRAIGHT FOWARD AND VERY DIFFICULT. ONLY 3-5 PEOPLE DO BETTER THAN A B.
Just took this class and i was very dissapointed. I expected it to be my best class but will probably be my worst. His tests are just so tricky. The only good thing is his final is not cumulative and tests every other week= not much to study for.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!! If you want to really understand ECN find someone else. No homework and 6 test. Not clear at all and test are tricky. I took in winter and his extra help is just as confusing as lectures. If you care about your GPA avoid him if a 2.0 is good enough for you test your luck.
his exams are tricky. even if u think u know the stuff, u gotta be a good test taker.
horrible, only 5 quizes the whole semester, and the info to be tested on is not clear, even if you think your a good test taker, beware. would no suggest, very unclear, and gets off topic often, Does not offer much help for students either.
one of the worst teachers ever. don't let how nice and cool he is fool you. his lectures so boring only a select few students can stay awake. he isn't very clear on anything he teaches and sometimes goes over the same thing over and over again. he grades very hard and his tests are the worst part. his class will bring your gpa down.
boooorrrriiiinnnngggggggg and his tests are so tricky and hard. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. ANY OF THEM!!!
Unclear, boring. Cannot speak American! You will fail!!
great teacher
WOW! I Graduated 10 years ago and will never forget Mr Sahu! Didn’t matter how much you studied, his test were always off base. Several questions on the final had a double negative to trick people up. I think Mr Sahu needs to be reminded he’s an Economics teacher and should ONLY test for Economics. Mr Sahu is terrible at taking feedback. Clearly he hasn’t listened to any of it in the past 10 years.
NEVER TAKE THIS TEACHER! HE'S THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD... HARD TESTS... NOT VERY GOOD AT HELPING UNDERSTAND UNCLEAR SITUATIONS.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! DONT TAKE EVEN FOR A LAST RESORT!
The absolute worst professor I have ever had. Tests, lectures, and text had absolutely no relation to one another. It does not matter how intelligent you are, how hard you study, or how much time you spend reviewing your materials...unless you have some odd talent in the area of economics and can guess with Dr. Sahu, you will end up dropping.
hes not that bad
C'mon people! Prof. Sahu is a good instructor. He covers material well, he knows the subject matter, and his tests are not a problem if you do three things: Pay attention, read his notes, read the book.
Easy tests, easy going guy.
He was an okay professor...he likes to joke around for lectures. A bit hard to understand. For our class, he required reading the Wall Street journal everyday...not a bad move.
Overall, not a bad instructor. He likes to repeat himself A LOT, but it actually ended up being helpful. He required us to read the WSJ, but I didn't really read it, and still did good in the class. He is sometimes hard to understand, but he tries to be funny and it kept me paying attention.
Do the reading. He's a nice guy but not that easy. It's easier if you take 201 first, then you already have an idea of what's going on.
This guy sucks!!! You can't understand a word that he says, his tests seem easy, but they are really hard, and to top it off he is a jerk. If you can avoid him do so at all costs.
He's a nice guy so it makes the fact that he really isn't a good teacher better. Study the book more than his notes, but you get extra credit for going to class. It's not easy, but do-able
nice guy knows a lot but very unstructured. you will do a hw and not get it back until the semester end. dont get the WSJ just go online and find the info on the web save yourself $$ never needed it. tests are kind of stupid and even if you study he has the most random questions. if you want to gamble w/your gpa take him. can't say i learned much
One of the hardest classes ever. do not take him, take fin 422 as a requirement instead of 418.
Not very organized. Would email us powerpoints the day of or after the class. Powerpoints are what he lectured off of. He goes back and forth on his decisions that it is irriting. Ahead of time said we can use financial calculator on exam and the day of exam said no. Hard to pass w/o the curve!!
His class is very hard to sit through for long periods of time, which makes you not want to go to class because it seems like common sense, but then you have to read a lot on your own and understand all the concepts. This class is not hard to pass, but you need to work to get a high grade.
He can be a funny guy but his lectures are boring and unstructured. Its hard to take notes in his class because its so unstructured.
Sahu is a nice guy but it sucks to be in his class. He is so hard to understand and he writes his notes with a weird marker thing that is impossible to read. His test questions make no sense.
Slightly disorganized when he lectures. He will start talking about one thing and then go on a tangent for 20 minutes and then return so its hard to take notes. Other than that he is very interested in what he teaches and will crack some jokes to make the class more fun.
I took 201 elsewhere, and had to take 200 at OU. Wrote good notes, used the book and its study guide, and left class early almost everytime (stopped taking roll). Answer questions in class for Xtra Credit. I crammed for tests and could have done much better, if I tried (Got a 3.2 tho). Good guy, 3 assignments, makes jokes, grade is out of 350 pts
Miserable. Homework assignments were tedious and I learned nothing from them. Lectures were difficult to understand at best. Multiple choice tests with twisted the wording to make it more difficult, and if the question made sense the answers were so similar that if you hadn't memorized the EXACT statistics you'd fail the test. Absolutely miserabl
I'm really surprised by other comments. He is very organized. To the point of being repetitive. Started each class by reviewing what we had done, then summarized at end. A few EASY hand ins-- look up GDP of US. Not hard. The trick was to read the chapter and use study guide. Test questions were often straight out of the study guide!
He is a ok a teacher just needs to stop with the jokes. He also should make his exams easier.
Professor Sahu is very knowledgeable and tries to be fair. Tests were not very difficult as long as you PREPARE FOR THEM--this means you may have to study! The homework assignments are useless and infuriating; I spent hours on them with barely any success.
You have to keep in mind that the people that give him low ratings are people who just expect an easy A and will give a low rating to any prof that won't do that. You will have to put in effort for a good grade. Sahu is very nice and his test questions are tricky but if you study the book then you should do fine. I definitely recommend him.
Easy A if you know how to read. lol. This teacher is good, you just have to put in effort. All those neg comments are from slackers lol.
Sahu is a very good professor. Test were tough but fair. Don't expect to do good unless you keep up on the reading and hw.
Prof. Sahu's exams were hard, and he handed back your homework the day before an exam. He is there if you need help, if you can understand him, his accent is very thick. Always double check your homework and exams, because almost every time he marked at least 1 question wrong, that was actually correct.
Professor Sahu is a very smart professor. However his notes are terrible, so you must use your book to do well in the class. His accent is very thick and he is almost impossible to understand. He requires you to read the Wallstreet Journal but you really don't need to. Class is hard to get a good grade in even with effort.
Must pay attention in class. No powerpoints, notes in class are a joke. Sahu is a nice guy but very hard to understand and moves along quickly. Exam is Tues at 10am, got the study guide at 5pm Monday night. Reading the book is a must, but for those of us that arent familiar with Econ, this class is a nightmare.
Hard class, but not that bad. His testes are hard but grades easy on the homework assignments and curves. If you study and read the book you'll do good!
An ok professor. His notes are a little scattered but in the end he passes on his message. Be sure to read over the chapters before the 3 tests and there is barely any homework. I did and received As on all of them. Also cracks a few jokes in class.
He is a very fun professor. He has a great sense of humor, which helps with such a boring topic. Sometimes he gets over excited and tends to talk a bit fast, but otherwise, once you get used to him, he's not difficult to understand. If you ever get lost, go ask him, he is very happy to help. He really cares about making you pass.
Teacher is bad he doesn't grade anything till the last minute. He teaches things in class that are useless. The only way to do even remotely good on test are by reading the chapters in the textbook. When asking for advice he gives none and doesn't probably speak enough English to understand what you are asking. Tests are very hard!
Very helpful teacher, tells you what you need to know
Prof Sahu was a little scattered in his notes but the helpfulness outside of class made up for it. He sent the powerpoints and notes before exams which was really helpful. If you are uneasy about math as I am, his "Fear No Math" slogan was somewhat inspirational.
Sahu just lectures about the most random stuff. His lectures have nothing to do with what's on the exam. Doesn't give a study guide for exams. He doesn't go over what to study for AT ALL. Class average for his exams were in the low 60s. You couldn't pay me to take a class with this guy again lol. He is a funny guy though.
i love the subject of macro but he is a HORRIBLE professor. never responds to emails, lectures are a heavy accent riddled mess, exams are nothing like what he says they will be, and the book doesnt even help! going to his office hours does nothing, he goes off on a tangent and when you try to bring him back to the question he still wont answer.
I never wanted to off myself in a classroom so bad. First of all, this professor's primary language is not English, so good luck understanding him. Second of all, you better be ready for unorganized lectures that don't cover exam material. Lastly, be ready for no exam review guides, no utilization of Moodle, or answers to E-mails.
Any good reviews on here must have been written from professor Sahu himself. If you want a horrible outlook on macro-economics, please take this class. The horrifying minutiae lectures will eventually lead to his unorganized test preparations, which will lead to failure. Pointless statistical homework assignments have no correlation with exams. GL
this professor is absolutely ridiculous. tough grader, hardly any assignments to make up points. tests do not relate to ANY of the information provided in class. the teacher is hard to understand. overall, get a different professor for this class if you want to pass. the first day he stated that average grade a student receives is a 2.9.
One word: horrible. Make a better choice please.
Very unorganized, not helpful, unclear, you have to do everything yourself, and doesn't send e-mails until last minute
From day one he held lectures until the announced ending time. Required students to write a weekly report about the economy. Lectures are very boring and never related to the material on the exams. To pass the class you need to complete the 4 hw assignments, weekly reports and pray you are above the curve on exams. Curves exams due to low scores.
Professor Sahu is a great guy, but his lectures hardly tie into the tests. He heavily curves tests because everybody does so badly on them. Honestly, as long as you do all of the weekly homework assignments, attend class, answer at least one question in class for extra credit, and score slightly above the curve for the tests, you should get a 3.0
Very difficult to understand and I needed to go home and study that much more because I did not retain anything from his lectures.
Mr Sahu is a great professor knowledgeable in Economics keeping the class interesting with discussions on current events. This course is useful to understand financial markets and work economy
Profesor Sahu was my favorite teacher at Oakland University. After a tough class in the Fall, I had to retake this class in the summer. HE will lecture on about random things once in a while, but grading is very lenient and barely has any hmw. I DID have to meet up with him during his office hours, which is the best way to go.
not the best but the only one who teaches the class so good luck!
Professor Sahu is a very nice man, just not a great teacher. He heavily curves the tests because of the abundance of low scores. As long as you go over his lecture notes and pay attention in class, you should be fine though. It isn't hard to pass his class, just frustrating sometimes.
Worst class I have taken at Oakland University. His lectures are extremely disorganized, and on the first day, he passed out SEVEN PACKETS of stuff about the class. Using paper has never bothered me so much. He also makes you do weekly reports which are completely useless. Don't bother trying to email him- he'll just respond a week later.
Great professor. Knows what he's talking about, passionate, and really funny. His exams are a free for all. Not all questions come from the book or lectures but the whole class is curved. The weekly reports AREN'T BAD. You only write one page about the economy per week. It's the lightest work load you can get in a college course. There's EC too.
He is the worst professor I have ever taken. He refused to tell anyone what their grade was saying it is easy to calculate even though we did not get any assignments back. I still am not sure if I passed or not. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
do not take this class with this prof, his accent is so thick you cannot understand him. his notes are absolutely terrible and are no help. no clue what my grade in the class is. gives out extra credit for answering in class thats about it. doesn't reply to emails. 0/10 do not recommend
I never knew my grade the whole semester, I should pass. I went to his office hours twice and asked what my grade was and never received a response. He often lectures about the great depression which was never on a single exam. To pass you need to learn the material yourself because his lectures have nothing to do with the material on the exam.
By far the WORST professor I've had at OU. Didn't post grades/update Moodle ONCE during the semester. Doesn't respond to emails. Can't understand him. Lectures are all over the place. Notes are chicken scratch. Didn't respond to email asking for grades til advisor & dean intervened. When he did, it was "Do the homework and you'll pass." Total joke.
Took him for Econ 2020, you need to attend class and take notes, read through the chapters outside class and do the weekly reports and assignments and participate for extra credit. He is very nice, funny and helpful. These people complaining did not even attend class or do assignments or open the book. I had some of them like that in my fall class.
I should've listened to the reviews... Grades never posted until finals and exams that are not even close to lecture notes. This is basically a self-led class where you show up only because you have to. He was 15 mins late to the final exam, and honestly no one can understand what he is saying. Taking this class was an awful decision on my part
Anandi Sahu is hands down the hardest professor I have ever had. His lectures consist of chicken scratch and abbreviating every word. He teaches totally different material in class then whats on the exams. He puts questions on the tests and exams that he just expects you to know about the economy. If you respect your GPA then avoid this class.
Don't listen to these reviews they are bad because people don't put in the effort! All you need to do is read the book, do weekly reports, and attend class. He is a good guy & actually teaches you about the economy. Weekly reports are every week, not bad grades them pretty easy. Quizzes/exams are based off of the book so make sure you READ THE BOOK
I would never choose to take a class with this professor again, not only is his writing awful, but the only purpose to showing up to lectures is attendance and understanding what statistics you're supposed to know for the tests/quizzes. Honestly just read the book, it's more useful than the professor.
Professor Sahu lectured for long periods of time and it was difficult to remain attentive. If you take him, you have to read the textbook as material from it will appear on exams even if he hasn't gone over it explicitly in class. One positive thing about him is that he doesn't give out a lot of homework.
Taking his economics class made me change my major. His lectures are painful to follow, and the only resources he provides are his own notes that are barely legible. Two tests make up 80% of the grade and he asks that you remember obscure current economic data, while not specifying which figures. I would avoid him at all costs.
Professor Sahu is an ok professor but the way he teaches doesn't work for me. His classes are very lecturer heavy with the lectors being about 3 hours long and very boring. Stuff that he goes over on the lecture is conflicting with the book and he is a very late grader. I would recommend to save your money and take a different professor.
He never says when due dates, never responds to emails, needs to know many statistics for this class and doesn't cover much within the class. Covers one subject within the entire class time. For the final review he does not give one, He did hold a review session but does not give actual statistics for exam that we will need to know.
I have never had a worse experience with a professor. He was disorganized, bad note taking, no class structure and impossible to follow what was happening. Rules changed on a day-day basis and were not outlined in the syllabus. Would never take again ever.
I have never delt with an instructor so unorganized. He never responded to my emails in a timely manor. Every question I asked him in class, he gave the response that he will let us know. he would always switch due dates for HW and he never went over it. What he teaches in class is nothing like the homework or exams. I could go on forever.
Every class we spent 2 hours presenting. I felt the time could be used more productively, but the grading was very lenient on the presentations. The exams focused on what we covered in class, which wasn't much so it's easy to study. Overall, he was very excited to teach on the subject so it made the class very engaging. His notes are useless tho.
Professor Sahu tried to make lectures entertaining, however they were extremely long and boring. You're also tested on current economic data and obscure historical facts regarding the economy. I highly recommend you study everything in the textbook, no matter how unimportant it may seem.
He changed the grading scale mid semester by taking away the rest of the quizzes and messing up the average for the quizzes. He made out in person class virtual and when we asked him when we were going back in person he got mad and yelled at the class. During the whole class I learned more from the SI not the professor.
A thick accent and poor handwriting make his long lectures unbearable. He made a sudden shift to virtual which changed the grading scale and he made no effort to help students that struggled in an online setting. The exams will require spending time looking over current data that he barely covers. The SI was more informative than the actual class.
Unfortunately unavoidable. Average test score is 50% (he does curve). Exam questions not on lecture or book material. Form a study group and learn the graphs - tests have some essay questions. Maybe take a free supplemental course. Take notes on random statistics he says in class. Memorize the random data. You'll need all of it. Good luck.
I learned absolutely nothing in this class at least with this professor. Nothing on the Homework reflected anything that was taught in class. He does not respond to emails and he is very unorganized. I will be retaking this class with someone else over the summer or in the fall.
There are 3 exams and a lot of homework. The exams have nothing to do with the homework and what he teaches. The accent made it so hard to learn. He does not answer questions just repeats the question to u.
If you are trying to learn or if you are trying to pass this class, I would not recommend this professor.
Professor Sahu's lectures are long and boring, but unstuck AI helped me prep for the exams. Expect a heavy focus on obscure data - the textbook is a must. Overall, a challenging class, but manageable with the right study tools.
I had to dedicate the most time to this class out of any. You can tell that he truly cares for his students, and I don't doubt that he knows the material... However, he's just very bad at explaining it. If you want to do good in his class, attend his lectures, take notes on them, try on homework, READ THE BOOK, and take lots of notes on book.
I'll start by saying this guy loves economics, with that being said he isn't good at teaching it. this class would need to be your #1 priority or else you'll have trouble passing, its very hard to learn from him and his lectures drag on for a long time. i would not take this class if you have a choice, hes a great guy to ask questions to.
I am in the 3.5 hour class, where he would only lecture with PowerPoint, which he would never finish within the class period. Besides, after taking attendance, over half of the class was gone. If you can take a different professor, I would recommend taking someone else. Final is on paper!
Class was graded by exams, one quiz, and homework. Attendance was mandatory but the professor would let you mark your attendance, until he got rid of it. Don't take the 3.5 hour class, it's dreadful. Exams are very hard, and contain stuff not discussed in class. The professor knows a lot of what he teaches, but cant communicate it to the students.
Dr. Sahu is a pure lecturer. Whatever class you sign up for, he will be lecturing the entire time. SI and YouTube seriously helped me understand the concepts. His powerpoints are re-used semester to semester and he will keep the notes he made on them making it all the more confusing. If you take a class with him, be ready to somewhat self teach.
This class was frustrating. Only one of six required quizzes was given, notes were disorganized, and tests didn't match lectures. His strong accent made concepts hard to follow, he rarely answered emails, and struggled to clearly explain the material. Altogether Professor Sahu is very polite and knowledgeable but he struggles to teach the subject.
He's a horrible professor and don't know how to teach.
